Not for the first time, Eddie was really regretting his decision to book a client on a Friday night, and a new client at that.
It wasn’t as if he had anything better to do, exactly. There were no dates on his calendar, and going out to random bars and clubs on the weekends to look for quick hookups had begun losing its appeal lately.
But it’d been a long week, and he’d much rather have been getting ready to plop down on the couch with Chrissy to split a bottle of red wine while they watched Drag Race, than preparing to do a cover up for some idiot who’d gotten his girlfriend’s name tattooed on his body, only to fall victim to—The Curse.
Ask any tattoo artist and they’d be the first to tell you, there was no surer way to guarantee a breakup than to ink your significant other’s name on your body forever.
And yeah, it probably wasn’t fair to judge the guy before they’d even met, but there were only two kinds of people who tended to make that particular mistake—dumbasses, and hopeless romantics. He just kind of assumed his client fell into the former camp, rather than the latter.
Eddie had just started wiping down the front desk counter, which doubled as a display case for the various accessories and body jewelry they carried trying to kill some time between his last appointment and cover-up-guy, when Chrissy came walking out of her studio.
It was one of the biggest perks, in his opinion, of owning their own shop. Not only did each of them finally have their own work spaces—no more having to listen to other client conversations or fighting over a single bluetooth speaker—but being their own bosses also meant they could decorate and customize their own studios to their heart’s content.
The main area of the shop was a bit of a catch-all, much like his and Chrissy’s shared apartment. It featured neutral walls lined with a mishmash of all the things they loved, sprinkled in and amongst odd antiques, knick-knacks, and various pieces of unique artwork. There was everything from vintage vinyl record jackets tacked to the wall, to faux taxidermy mountings of creatures that had never existed in real life.
Entering Chrissy’s studio was a little like stepping inside a Lisa Frank notebook cover. All vibrant rainbow colors and aggressive animal print. Eddie had painted the walls himself, color matching the exact shade of fuchsia as the adjustable chair he’d custom ordered just for her. He was no interior designer so she’d taken it from there, and though the finished product was a little too bright for his tastes, even he had to admit it was still pretty fucking metal.
Eddie’s space was the polar opposite, featuring dark stained wood furniture and a style of decor that could be best described as a slightly more grown up version of a teenage boy's bedroom. Band and movie posters lined three of the walls, but instead of being held up with thumbtacks, or scotch tape, they were neatly laid in matching frames with thick black edging. The remaining wall held a gallery of photos. Him and Wayne from their last fishing trip, one from when he and Chrissy had received the keys to the parlor unlocking its doors on the first day that it was theirs, and an old snap of him and his high school bandmates standing in front of their homemade banner, among many others.
It wasn’t until Chrissy came up to lean on the counter with her jacket zipped-up and her purse slung over her shoulder that he realized something was up.
“Don’t forget to lock up when you're done.” She said, tapping her nails on the glass. “Oh! And can you stop and pick up some oat milk on your way home? We’re out.”
“Wait, where are you going? Didn’t you have a client booked tonight too? I thought we were in this together, Cunningham!”
“Not anymore.” She said cheerfully, leaning across the counter to rest her elbows on the glass, leaving an ink smudge on the exact spot he had just finished cleaning. He swatted at her with the damp rag and she jerked back with a giggling-gasp.
“Mine had to cancel.”
Eddie groaned. “I hate when clients do that.”
She shrugged. “Doesn’t bother me. It’s like a free night off I wasn’t expecting.”
“Not exactly free, since canceling means not paying in full.” He grumbled.
“Oh lighten up! It’s not like we’re that behind on bills or anything.”
“Tell that to the electric company.” He said, mostly to tease her, though he couldn't help glancing up at the excessively large and kitschy skull chandelier he’d found on Amazon that definitely didn’t use high efficiency light bulbs, but he had sworn at the time was worth it for The Aesthetic™.
“Why are you always so grumpy?” Chrissy asked, jutting her lip out in a dramatic reenactment of him pouting.
Not that he was one to pout.
“I’m not!”
“Look at your face, you're grumpy right now!”
“That's because y- you’re…” He cut himself off with a sigh.
He couldn't begrudge her the time off, he’d be hightailing it out of there just the same if it had been him.
“Just get out of here.” He said, conceding defeat.
She beamed. “Okay! See you later!” She said, all but sprinting to the front doors. “Don’t forget about the milk!”
“Wait, why can’t you–” He started to ask, but she was on the other side of the door before he could get the words out.
“Oh forget it.” He mumbled, stashing the glass cleaner away where it belonged.
About fifteen minutes later the bell above the door chimed, signaling the arrival of what Eddie assumed to be his last customer of the day.
Except, it couldn't be.
It couldn’t possibly be because the Adonis that had just entered his humble tattoo parlor was, quite frankly, bonkers hot. There was no way, absolutely no way someone had this guy—this guy—so obsessed with them that he went and got their name tattooed on his perfect body and then just… let him go.
It was unthinkable.
“Hi, you must be Eddie. I recognized you from your Instagram.” Pretty-boy said with a shy smile.
“Steve?” Eddie asked, blinking hard, completely unable to mask the tone of disbelief.
The other man nodded.
Shit, okay.
So this was him—Steeeeeeve Harrington. This was the guy.
Maybe there was something wrong with him? There had to be a catch, a series of very red flags or something because all Eddie could think about at that moment was, if he ever got a chance with Steve? He’d never let him go.
Get it together, Munson!
The bright side, of a sort, was that Steve smacked of straight guy energy, so it was unlikely Eddie would even be in the running for a chance anyway. Better to just put it out of his mind.
Though, he supposed he could still… look. It's not like looking ever hurt anyone. Not that he made a habit out of ogling the clientele. Of course, none of his other customers had ever come in wearing vintage Levi’s that fit their ass like a glove, not to mention the way they fit around his–
“Eddie?”
Fuck.
Had Steve been talking this whole time while he’d been off daydreaming about what those sinfully tight jeans might look like on his bedroom floor?
“Yeah.” A soft chuckle fell from Eddie’s lips as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “S- sorry, man. Spaced out for a second there I guess.”
What the fuck was wrong with him today?!
“It’s okay. I was just asking if the plan was still the same? In your last email you suggested we should do this over two appointments.”
Work question… yes, good. Focus on the job!
“Right. With what we talked about I'd like to concentrate on just the outline today, maybe a little shading, and then in six weeks or so once that’s healed have you come back for the color. If you’re still alright with that?”
Eddie could do the whole thing in one shot if Steve really wanted to sit that long, but with something like this he didn't want to feel rushed. He’d done a few concept sketches after emailing back and forth with Steve about what he was looking for, and honestly what they’d come up with wasn’t really his usual style. He could do it, he was more than capable, but he had to wonder why Steve had picked him, out of all the tattoo artists in the city. He’d seen Eddie’s Instagram, so he knew the kind of work he usually churned out. Hell, Chrissy would have been the more obvious choice for this.
Of course, now that he’d gotten an eye-full of Steve in person he was glad he hadn’t tried to pawn him off on her. He was also really hoping Steve would agree to the split sessions, it would give them an excuse to see each other again.
“Whatever you think is best. I’m putting myself in your expert hands.” Steve said, a hint of a blush coloring his cheeks.
That was… interesting.
Maybe Eddie had been a little bit hasty in his initial straight assessment?
Steve’s deposit had been paid, and they’d already gone over pricing through email so there wasn't much to discuss as far as that was concerned, After signing some paperwork and getting the other man’s ID scanned into the system there was nothing left to do but walk Steve back to his studio and get this show on the road.
“You can go ahead and take your shirt off, get comfortable. I’ll show you the stencil I drew up and if it looks good we can put it on and get started.” Eddie said, gesturing to his client chair.
He leaned over his desk while Steve got situated, taking a second to gather his thoughts, as well as add a small finishing touch to the transfer sketch before turning back to his client. The sight made his throat go dry.
It shouldn’t have been as hot as it was.
At Eddie's direction, in preparation, Steve had shaved his chest. More specifically, Steve had shaved half of his chest. The side Eddie would be working on, that sported the existing tattoo, was bare—smooth as a baby's bottom. The other side was…
It was…
Jesus Christ.
It should have looked ridiculous actually, and it was a little funny, but honestly all Eddie could think when he stared at the untrimmed side of Steve's upper body, resplendent with the most glorious chest hair, was that it was a travesty, a crime even, that he’d never get to see the whole thing grown out in its full glory.
The lack of a shirt also highlighted the fact that Steve was incredibly toned, much more so than he had initially appeared even through his slim fit henley.
Eddie shook his head, praying it had suddenly become an etch-a-sketch and he could clear out his thoughts by sheer force.
He truly didn’t know what had gotten into him. It was hardly the first time he’d worked on someone he found attractive, but usually he didn’t notice it quite this much. When you pierce and tattoo for a living you get used to seeing a lot of bare skin, including occasionally, areas typically reserved for romantic partners. Professional hazzard, but it’d never been a problem for him before. He was an artist, this was his craft, and bare skin was just another kind of canvas.
He blamed it on his current dry spell, self-imposed as it was.
It was easy enough to go out on a Saturday and find a guy or girl to bring home for the night, but he was so tired of one night stands and meaningless hookups in bar bathrooms. Where was the substance? He wanted companionship. He wanted a partner. He wanted to fall in love.
Eddie cleared his throat and crossed the room to hand Steve the stencil, busying himself with raising up his stool to the proper height and pulling on a pair of thick black neoprene gloves while the other man looked it over.
“It’s great.” Steve said.
“Good.” Eddie quietly let out the breath he’d been holding. “Alright I'm gonna put this on and have you take a look at the placement, make sure you like it, then we can get started.”
Eddie squeezed out a dime sized amount of the stencil gel and rubbed it into Steve’s chest, laying the transfer paper down in just the right way so that the final design would sufficiently cover what was underneath, assuming he had scaled it right.
It was perfect. After a quick check in the mirror, Steve agreed.
While they waited for it to dry Eddie double checked his set up to make sure he had everything he would need for the session.
“Ready to get started?”
Steve took a deep breath and blew it out slow. “Yeah. I am.”
His reply felt heavy, like maybe he was talking about more than just the tattoo. Had they known each other at all Eddie might have asked about it, but they were basically strangers, and it wasn’t his job to pry.
With steady hands he set the needle to Steve's skin and got to work.
They weren’t at it for very long before Steve started to squirm.
Eddie ignored it at first, he could tell the guy was trying hard to keep himself still, and he wasn’t really moving enough to actually disturb the work. Sometimes it took a bit for clients to sink into the feeling, to let the pain fade to the background enough that they could relax a little bit or at least be able to keep their body from trying to react to the odd sensation. But then he noticed the light sheen of sweat spreading over Steve's upper body, and would have sworn he could somehow feel the other man’s pulse quickening beneath the hand he had pressed so closely to his heart, even over the vibration of the tattoo machine.
He should probably stop and do a check-in, suggest a breather or some water. It wouldn't be the first time a seemingly tough muscle-bound guy had struggled to sit for him.
He opened his mouth to say something about it, lifting the needle as he took a quick glance up at Steve’s face, but what he saw had the words dying on his tongue. Steve was staring back at him, face flushed, breath coming quick and shallow, bottom lip trapped between his teeth.
That… did not look like a face that was in pain—or rather—it didn’t seem like the pain was unpleasant.
Fuck.
Eddie flicked his gaze quickly back down to his hands, the needle, fighting the urge to look lower.
He shouldn’t.
It wasn’t right.
The professional thing to do would be to ignore the reaction completely.
But Eddie was a weak, weak man.
He looked.
Just a quick peek, less than a half-second that his eyes wandered south, and immediately he regretted it.
Oh fuck, fuck, fuuuck.
Suspicion confirmed. Steve was hard. He was also huge if the unmistakable outline was any indication. Eddie bit his tongue, fighting back the groan that was trying to fight its way out of his throat.
Those jeans should be fucking illegal. The only thing worse would’ve been a pair of gray sweatpants. Now he was the one sweating.
“Sorry.” Steve said, voice strained.
Eddie stilled, lifting the machine away from Steve's chest again before looking back up to meet his eyes.
“For?”
Steve raised an eyebrow, challenging him to continue to pretend he hadn’t noticed.
“It’s fine, really. It… happens. Everyone reacts differently to the pain.”
Steve let out a high pitched and breathy huff of laughter. “It wasn’t like this last time.” He muttered under his breath.
Eddie tried hard not to read into that, not to think about what the difference might be.
“Do you need to take a break?”
“No,” Steve swallowed hard. Eddie watched, momentarily mesmerized by the bob of his adams apple. “But, uh, can we talk or something? To distract me?”
He sounded so vulnerable, and a little embarrassed. It was enough to snap Eddie out of his daze. The last thing he wanted was for the person in his chair to feel uncomfortable. Talking he could do, it was one of his best things.
“Sure, what do you want to talk about?” Eddie asked casually, getting right back into his line work.
“You.” Steve answered quickly, pausing to clear his throat. “Um, I mean, did you always want to be a tattoo artist?”
Eddie chuckled. “Yeah, pretty much. I used to spend all my time, including the time I should have been using to study or do my homework, drawing, sketching, painting, you name it, and it just kinda developed from there. I gave myself my first stick-and-poke when I was about 15. My uncle was pissed. Not about the tattoo exactly, but he was worried I wasn't being safe enough about it—sanitary and stuff. Of course, he wasn’t wrong. So, Wayne took me out the next day and we got a book about it, and he bought me all the right materials. Even let me practice on him when I graduated to a tattoo machine.”
“He sounds like a really great guy.” Steve said.
“Yeah, he is.” Eddie could feel the wistful smile spreading across his own face. “Not just anyone could step in and raise someone else’s kid like that. Just wish I got to see him more. I go back to Indiana to visit him a few times a year, but it’s not the same.”
“I don’t see my family very much either, but we’re not close.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. My parents, they’re–” Steve trailed off as if looking for the right words. “Well, let's just say they're not as supportive of my—life choices, as your uncle was for you.”
“Oh?”
“I, uh, came out to them a while ago… as bisexual? They didn’t take it very well. Said I was just going through some kind of phase or crisis or something. Sorry, this is probably, like, way too much information to share with someone I just met.”
“No. it’s—Okay, maybe to a normal person it might be but I've never been what anyone would describe as normal. And… I get it.”
Eddie didn’t really have to say it. The outside of the shop sported every kind of pride flag you could think of. There were pictures right behind him on the wall of him and Chrissy at their first ever pride parade right here in the city. Not to mention his social media profiles, where he had a bi  flag right next to his age and pronouns in his bio. Steve knew, was the point, and Eddie was glad he’d felt safe enough in his shop—with him, to talk about it.
“Wayne was really good about that too.” Eddie said softly. “I’m sorry your parents weren’t.”
A comfortable silence settled between them after that and Eddie left it unbroken, better to let Steve decide which direction their conversation went from here—if he wanted to continue it. He seemed more relaxed already and his… predicament had mercifully gone down as they spoke.
“When did you—how did you… know?“ Steve asked after a while.
“Junior High.” Eddie answered quickly, smiling to himself as he indulged in a little nostalgia. “Kinda the opposite of the usual story, I guess. I thought I was gay. I had such a crush on this boy a grade above me.  Nobody that would have given me the time of day mind you, I was a band geek and a huge nerd, but he was very nice to look at. Then he changed schools. I was heartbroken of course, which is my excuse for why I let this girl drag me under the bleachers during gym class. One second we were just sitting there talking and the next she was in my lap with her tongue down my throat.”
“And?”
Eddie shrugged. “And I didn’t hate it. I reacted exactly the way a young boy reacts when a pretty girl is kissing them and grinding in their lap. Honestly, it blew my mind a little bit—had to reevaluate my whole world view.”
Steve hummed in understanding.
“It’s still mostly men for me but–” Eddie sighed wistfully, “Women.”
“Women,” Steve agreed reverently, letting out a soft laugh. “It was a bit more recent for me. A friend took me to a gay bar—dragged me there actually.” He started to shake his head, stopping instantly when he seemed to realize he might be moving too much.
Good boy.
Eddie smirked. “I bet you were popular.”
“You could say that. I’ve never had so many people offer to buy me a drink in my life.” As Steve went on he began to rub his hand along the chair's armrest, mindlessly drawing patterns into its surface with his long fingers.
“It’s funny, at 25 I didn’t think I had anything new to discover about myself, at least nothing big, but after that rather eye-opening evening I had to, like you said, reevaluate some things about myself. It wasn’t a huge shock I guess. Like, I had found guys attractive before—friends, celebrities, whatever, I just thought everyone felt that way.”
“Ah, the bisexual’s fallacy. Sure I think about other dudes sometimes, but only the normal amount.” Eddie said.
“How was I supposed to know it wasn’t!”
Eddie stopped tattooing as they held each other's gaze, both managing to keep a straight face for only a second before simultaneously dissolving into hysterical laughter.
Figuring it was as good a time as any to take a short break, Eddie stripped his gloves off and slid across the room on his stool to a small mini-fridge he kept tucked under his desk, stocked with water and juice—something he always kept on hand in case a client got lightheaded.
As they sipped their drinks and both took an opportunity to stretch, Eddie decided it was finally time to put his foot in his mouth.
“So, how are you enjoying things on this side of the field? Someone as pretty as you, I'm sure you get asked out a lot.”
“No, uh, I don't know. I- I haven't really been out on any dates with guys.” Steve stuttered out nervously. “Kissed a few, but that’s all.”
“Oh, that’s too bad.” Eddie said. He meant it too. Not only was Steve something special to look at, but he seemed like a nice enough guy. He deserved to be taken out and shown a good time. Maybe he was shy.
Steve laid back in the chair, puffing his chest out as he got back into position while Eddie slipped a new pair of gloves on.
“Why, you offering to show me the ropes?” Steve asked, pointedly raising an eyebrow.
Eddie’s mouth went dry.
Okay, not that shy then. Surely it was just fun friendly flirting though, right?
“Don’t tempt me.” Eddie teased back. Two could play this game.
“Why not?”
“First rule of the trade, or at least the Munson doctrine, no dating the clients.”
“Oh, that’s too bad.” Steve said, and without even looking up Eddie could hear the smile in his voice, a hint of–challenge accepted–in his tone.
The next hour flew by as they continued to chat, both remarking on the differences between small town life and city life, as well as lamenting how expensive it was, and how neither of them thought they’d still be living with roommates in their mid-to-late-20's.
For a while Eddie waxed poetic about Chrissy, who of course filled the roles of bestie, roommate, and business partner, which tickled Steve to no end.
He told the other man how they’d met, apprenticing at the same tattoo parlor at around the same time. and wound up bonding for life almost immediately. They were total opposites on the surface but deep down they were remarkably similar. Eddie didn’t go into too much detail, as it wasn’t his story to tell, but alluded to the fact that he and Chrissy had the shared experience of being born to shitty parents, only to be raised by another family member. A grandmother in Chrissy’s case.
It meant that they understood each other more than most, and yeah, being around one another 24/7 also meant they got on each other’s nerves a lot, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
At some point Steve’s cell phone began to ring from where it was shoved in his front pocket. He apologized profusely for forgetting to switch it on silent before they’d gotten started, but Eddie assured him it wasn’t a big deal.
Or—it wouldn't have been, except either it was some kind of emergency, or someone who was intent on reaching Steve immediately, and continued trying to call three more times.
“We can take a break if you need to get that.” Eddie offered.
Truth be told he could use a little breather himself. All this time of being essentially face down in Steve’s incredible chest was getting to him a little bit, not to mention the way his forearm lightly brushed along Steve's stomach whenever he braced himself across the man’s body. The feel of their bare skin touching was almost too much, and more than once Eddie felt himself breaking out in goosebumps.
“Yeah, I think we’d better. It’s gotta be my little brother and knowing him he won’t stop calling until I answer.”
Eddie busied himself removing his gloves and taking a long drink from his water bottle while he flipped through a few drawings on his side table, trying to look like he wasn’t hearing every word of Steve's side of the conversation.
“Hey buddy, I'm a little busy right now. What’s going on?”
Steve paused, listening attentively to the voice on the other end of the call.
“Dustin, he’s not abandoning you. Just because he wants–”
Sighing as he was abruptly interrupted, Steve somehow made the huff of breath sound both annoyed and fond.
“Well, did he actually say he didn’t want to play D&D with you anymore?”
Eddie’s head snapped up of its own volition. Did the most gorgeous man he'd ever seen in real life just say D&D?
“That’s what I thought.” Steve said with a satisfied tone. “It's gonna be fine. I’ll come see you tomorrow, okay? Tell your mom I said hi.”
“Sorry about that.” Steve said, addressing Eddie this time, rolling his eyes as he ended the call. “Teenagers.”
“Pretty cool little brother if he plays Dungeons and Dragons.”
“Oh no.” Steve groaned. “Not you too! He and all his little friends are obsessed with it.”
“I used to play all the time with a group back in high school. We still try and get together for a one-shot at the holidays when we’re all back home visiting.” Eddie paused, concentrating for a second on wiggling his fingers into yet another set of gloves. There wasn’t really all that much left to do, another 20 minutes or so and he’d be done with the outline. “Was he alright, your brother?”
“Yeah, he’ll be fine.” Steve replied as he sat back, getting into position. “We, uh, technically we’re not actually related—I'm an only child. But I used to babysit Dustin when he was younger and when he grew up I just sorta stuck around. It’s only him and his mom at home and I guess I thought… I dunno, like, maybe I could help? I drove him to his first school dance, taught him how to do his hair, shave, that kinda stuff.”
“That's… that’s really sweet, man. I’m sure he appreciates having you around.”
With every new thing he learned about Steve, Eddie felt like he was in deeper and deeper trouble. He’d been having a tough enough time keeping it together with simply lusting over a hot body, but now Steve was turning out to be this sweetheart of a guy and, client or not, Eddie thought he might just be worth breaking all the rules for.
“He’s worried his friend group is falling apart because one of the guys is going out for the basketball team. He’s afraid if Lucas gets in good with the jocks he won’t want to play with them anymore.”
“As a former outcast and enemy to jocks everywhere, I can understand his concern.”
“Are you saying we wouldn't have been friends in high school then?”
“Steve, Stevie, please. Please don’t tell me…” Eddie trailed off, stopping what he was doing and gasping for dramatic effect–hand over his heart. “Oh god, you were captain of the sportsball team weren’t you?”
Steve giggled, his beautiful eyes sparkling with it. “Basketball, to be exact. I was the co-captain of the swim team too.”
“I knew it would never work between us.” Eddie tutted, shaking his head as he got back to tattooing. “Are you reformed, at least?”
“Once a jock, always a jock, I'm afraid. I’m a personal trainer now.”
It explained a lot, and the perks—pun absolutely intended—of Steve's day job were undeniable, but as hot as the mental image of him pumping iron was, the idea of Steve palling around with toxic gym bros all day was almost enough to have Eddie second guessing everything.
“Don’t worry though, I don’t like gym bros any more than the next guy.” Steve said conspiratorially. “My clients are mainly older women looking to maintain their strength and mobility as they age.”
Aaaaand Eddie stood corrected. “Lucky ladies.”
Jesus Christ, could this guy get any more perfect?
Steve shifted in his seat, starting to get antsy after keeeping still for so long.
“Just a few more minutes, almost done.” Eddie murmured, tongue between his teeth as he concentrated on a spot near the curve of Steve’s collarbone.
“Do you do a lot of these? Cover-ups I mean?” Steve asked. “My roommate is the one who actually suggested it. For some reason I just never thought about it as an option.”
“I don’t know if i’d say a lot, but a fair few, yeah.”
“You, um. You can ask about it… If you want.”
Eddie glanced up in surprise. He would never have brought it up without being prompted, it just didn’t feel right, but he couldn’t deny he was curious, and if Steve was okay with it then–
“Okay, I'll bite. Who’s Nancy?”
“My fiance’. Well, ex-fiance’ now. We broke things off a little over a year ago.”
“That’s rough, I'm sorry.”
“It’s okay. Honestly, It’s… I should have probably seen it coming? We were high school sweethearts—got together before we really knew who we were on our own. But I was dumb and in love. I got the tattoo and proposed. I was so happy that day, but looking back it was so obvious that she’d only said yes out of pity or guilt, not because she really wanted to spend the rest of her life with me.”
The part of Eddie that believed in true love—and all that cheesy shit—was sad that a couple who had been together for so long, who had essentially grown up together, hadn’t been able to make it work. Selfishly though, a small piece of him was happy to learn that they’d been broken up for quite some time, lessening the chance that, if he did somehow gather the courage to ask Steve out when the tattoo was done, he wouldn’t be on the rebound.
“It was tough. I felt like a failure for a long time, like I was having to start my whole life over from scratch when I'd thought for so long that she was it for me, but it's actually been… good. We weren’t right for eachother, I can see that now. As much as it hurt, I'm grateful she had the courage to break things off when she did.”
“I’m glad you’ve been able to come to peace with it.”
“Getting this tattoo feels like the final step into letting that life go, y’know?”
Eddie nodded. Steve’s demeanor before they got started made so much sense now.
“Is there some significance to the design?” He asked, making his final line and setting the machine down. He wiped at the excess ink on Steve's skin, raising his head just in time to see the way the other man’s eyes lit up.
“Yeah, Robin. She–she’s everything to me. Like a best friend, but more somehow. I don’t think I really knew what unconditional love was before her. She’s like, another piece of my soul or something. I don’t know what I would do without her.”
Eddie froze.
The tattoo design was a bird—a robin.
A robin.
For, Robin.
How could he have been so stupid!
Of course, Steve was getting one girl’s name covered up with something to represent the new one.
Jesus Christ, they were both idiots.
Eddie for getting his hopes up, and Steve for making the same mistake—twice. At least this time it was a symbol and not a name, so if he and the latest potential Mrs. Harrington didn’t work out, at least he wouldn't have to worry about covering it up.
“Everything alright?” Steve asked.
The question spurred Eddie back into action. He spread the foam soap over Steve’s chest continuing to clean the finished tattoo while his heart crawled up into his throat.
“Yup. All good.” Eddie forced the words out.
That's what Steve must have meant about not going on dates, he already had someone at home. Why hadn’t he just said that before though? And why had he flirted with him?
Maybe he’d felt funny at first about admitting to being with a woman after all the talk about being bisexual. Not that Eddie would have judged, but he knew a lot of people did—bi erasure was so real. He understood that, but it didn’t make it hurt any less that Steve had, inadvertently or not, lead him on.
Eddie gently patted the newly cleaned skin dry with a paper towel and carefully applied a square of Saniderm over the area, smoothing it out as he gave Steve his usual spiel, albeit a little robotically, about how to care for the tattoo over the coming days and weeks.
He quickly turned his back when he was done, telling Steve he could get dressed, and feeling stupid as all hell for being this upset about a guy he barely knew. He’d felt something though, potential—a spark. It was more than he’d felt for anyone in a long time.
Steve got quiet, looking a little confused with the sudden 180° Eddie’s mood had pulled. He felt a little bad about that as he brought the guy back out to the counter, but it wasn’t as though he’d suddenly become unprofessional. He was just… no longer being overly friendly.
After confirming the date for his second session, Steve paid his balance and Eddie walked him to the door.
“Have a good night, Steve. Call the shop if you have any concerns or questions about aftercare.”
Steve bit his lip. “Oh, I… okay. See you in six weeks then.”
Eddie forced a smile, waiting until Steve was out of sight around the corner to lock up, and slunk back to his studio to disinfect it so he could finally go home and sulk.

Interesting going through the records to see the version of Dick Winters' War which was something else entirely. After the war, he, in a meeting set up by Ambrose, touched base with the German Fallschirmjäger commander Friedrich Freiherr von der Heydte (misspelled in the transcript as "Vonder Hite"), whose company made contact with Easy in Carentan. The meeting and dialogue that followed solidified a few things for me especially after he described the enemy as a, "first-class enemy."
War to Dick, seemingly, was a war to be the best soldier, company, country—likened to a football game. And it shows so much in the writing of Band of Brothers, the eventual show, the corrections and correspondences he's had with all those involved in the narrative. Cutting down what could have been unflattering whether that's how his men reckoned with the war after the fact, or the hell the 101st paratroops raised while in between battles.

This is a long-ass post so the rest is under the cut if you want to swallow the All-American pill.

This is isn't going to be a pretty picture at all, mind you. And I mean it's Dick, his blond hair blue-eyed, Christian, (Republican) All-American glory in Class As or a football jersey in the 1940s. His mindset followed suit: that of the White American (male) during the height of America's empire. Persecution for people like him was next to nothing, and a battle could be a battle to prove something to yourself. To have high regard for your enemy, actual Nazis, to regard them by their skill in battle and the neatness of their uniform and march is a take of like the highest privilege.
It echoes a lot in his choices, viewing the war as a battle for who can outclass the other, to prove they're best of the best; the best soldier. Him joining the paratroops with the idea that the doughboy and the run-of-the-mill infantry man wouldn't be the elite arm ("You volunteered and it was the notion that you wanted to do something in order to be with the best. [...] That's the kind of a guy I want to be with. They were in shape. Everything the did, they did it the double."). When he described his men, if he began it with an unappreciative tone about their behavior and conduct, is ended with, "but he was a great soldier on the field." Inefficiency was the enemy. German forces were just the tool to show you where you had holes in your line and which nationality could fight the war the best.
Up until the point of discovering the camp, as an officer, as himself, Dick saw the war as a number of objectives to take over successfully for the sake of the mission, for the sake of keeping his men alive. Only when they find the camp does it seem to really hit him, outside of his disgust for the bombing of Pearl Harbor, why they're fighting this war.
“You’ve never seen anything like this. It’s a complete shock. It just stumps every feeling of emotion that you have. The horror of it…you could never imagine anything like this. [...] Now I know why I am here!” - Dick re: the discovery of concentration camps as told in 'Hang Tough'
The much critiqued Ep. 9: Why We Fight circling on Nix (seeing Dick's irl reaction of him being happy his friend had a larger part in the series), followed by Ep 10 is such a fucking whiplash in tonality not just for the cheeriness of the last ep. But also in showing the atrocities of the concentration camp and then literally giving a platform to a German general talking about how they fought well, having LIEBGOTT OF ALL PEOPLE, to translate feels so deranged. Dick is able to view these the German troops for their individual action and functionality as a soldier instead of a collective ideology of hate and persecution. He then can't comprehend the anger Liebgott had (he tsks a lot about Joe's treatment of the Nazi POWs in the memoirs).

Dick cared for his men, (my god did he care so much for his men; this is a different conversation that I will yap about some other time), but a lot of the times I feel like compassion couldn't budge beyond that point of understanding. The horrors of the Axis forces were only reality to him if and when he saw them upfront: bombed towns, civilians shot down by 88s, concentration camps. Anything that edges outside that periphery is beyond the objective and therefore inconsequential. "To fight and be the best for the guy beside you in a foxhole," felt like a whole ethos that he carried with him and that propelled him forward.
Dick's view of the world and the war is very much aligned with the white America's vantage point at that time. Liberators, of what and for whom it wasn't always clear to them within the confines of the American logo map that we know America to be today—what mattered was that they were the Good Guys, Victory Joe. They liberated, they did not take. And it ties up so, so neatly for the narrative of Tom Hanks and Co propaganda. What else is there to do after a football game but to shake hands with the opponent?

Part One- Currahee
Band of Brother's rewatch and the things I'd have like to have seen even though there was a lot in the episode, a lot to cover, and a story to tell but this is just a wishlist and really a "Boy I hope we get all the cutscenes some day in an extended cut like LOTR" so....feel free to add any cool history bits. I understand stuff doesn't fit with the end product, I just want it.
The March to Atlanta. Besides the record breaking march, there are some little things like David Lowrey picking up the stray dog Draftee and carrying in his pack because he wore his nails off marching with them? Sherman Irish who was Sobol's favorite and the guy everyone loved who volunteered to drive Sobol's car to Benning for him. Then told him it broke down and got money to fix the transmission, only to never show up because he sold all of Sobol's stuff including the wheels off the car.
Burr Smith, Forrest Guth. I just want them in this show.
Al Mampre too. Not only for being involved in putting boots on a bobcat but for being the guy who, with Spina, at Camp Mackall gave Sobol a fake appendectomy.
The guys smuggling bobcats, dogs and a Red Cross nurse ON JUMPS?
Popeye collecting money for Shifty so he could go home on a 3 day pass. This guy got no time.
Buck Taylor going AWOL at Benning to see a girl because passes were revoked. Lipton sneaking out too because he had plans to see his wife.
Ed Tipper getting into his billet in England and hearing Lord Haw Haw who was like Axis Sally broadcasting to demoralize allies and greeted them with "To the 101st Airborne, Welcome to England" even though they had to cut off their patches to arrive in secret. Just would have been a neat overlay of "We've been watching you" before the big jump, even though that wasn't the tone they were going for. Still would have been cool background noise.
Speirs racing Reed on Currahee and Reed just breezing it and Speirs wheezing and dying because he had to try to keep up
More Meehan. Make us miss him. Kick us in the gut when Guth walks by his crashed plane next episode. (In this extended cut where he has a role.)
Winters breaking that guy's back while wrestling. THEN give us Buck.
THE KNIFE. Like this just needs to be a few seconds of Nix giving him the Knife and us seeing the engraving of L.N to D.W. <3 .
Buck and Moose ending up in Speirs wedding party?
Photographers. Whoever kept taking pictures of Winters barely wearing clothes and Lipton laying in he grass like a model. Whoever took that file of photos Dick trades Lugers for. Bonus if they are on the yearbook committee that made the Currahee Scrapbook.
Speirs vs. Billy Turner, Fierce Valor makes it sound like the second civil war. Turner kicked him from C to D company and Speirs was not shy about telling everyone he wanted to kill him.
To be continued....

The one thing that everyone seems to know about Eddie Munson is that when he's not out touring the world with his band, Corroded Coffin, he makes a point to be as invisible as possible in order to spend time at home with his family. Eddie, along with his wife Chrissy of seven years and their two young children, graciously invited Vogue into their Hollywood Hills home that's about as secluded as you can get while still having that coveted Los Angeles zip code.
Vogue: I have to admit, given what I've seen of Corroded Coffin on stage, I think I expected your home to reflect a bit more of that personality.
Eddie Munson: [laughs] You can thank Chrissy for that. She's the brains behind this whole operation, I just do what she tells me.
So there's no hidden dungeon in the basement?
Hate to burst your bubble, but nope. I've been trying to get a sacrificial altar for the backyard, but I haven't found one I liked yet.
Really?
[laughs] I'm kidding. But I had you going, right?
You really did. But that's what you've always done, right? Leaned into the mania of Satanic Panic and made it work for you?
Yeah, I guess so. I mean, people are gonna believe whatever they wanna believe anyway so I might as well give 'em what they want, right? Plus, [laughs] it's a hell of a lot of fun.
What's it like having that devil-worshipper stage persona with two young kids at home? Do either of your kids know what their dad does for a living?
Oh, yeah. They [redacted] love it. Wait, can I say [redacted]?
We can't print it, but you can say it.
[Redacted] yeah. Our little one doesn't really get the whole stage thing yet, but she sure looks cute in those big-ass headphones.
And your other daughter?
Oh, if she could be on stage with me every night, she would be. On our last tour, we had this gimmick where Gareth rigged a bunch of blood packs to his drums to explode during the encore and she thought it was the coolest [redacted] thing in the world. He even offered to let her do it when we were in rehearsals!
And did she?
Maybe.
From the look on your face, I'm guessing she did.
[laughs] Don't tell Chrissy.
Scout's honor. Until this article comes out, anyway.
[Redacted]. Is it too late to say off the record?
Way too late.
[Redacted]. Oh well. Worth it. She had the biggest [redacted] grin on her face when she was covered in fake blood, it was priceless.
Seems like you might be raising a mini version of yourself. Would you support your kids following in your footsteps and joining the music industry?
[Editor's note: At this point in the interview, the eldest Munson child came running out of the back door and pounced on her father, who took it in stride and continued answering questions as though he didn't have a six-year-old hanging over his shoulder.]
I mean, if that's what they wanna do, then hell yeah.
[gasps] Daddy said a bad word!
Daddy did not, Daddy said hell.
Mommy said hell's a bad word.
Mommy also said you were supposed to stay inside, didn't she?
Pip was crying. She misses you.
Do you need a moment?
[laughs] Believe me, if I took a moment for every time I wanted to be with my kids, I'd never get anything done.
Because you love us so much?
Exactly.
How much?
To the moon and back.
That's a lot!
Sure is, kiddo. Now shush and let the nice lady ask her questions.
Ooh, ask me! Ask me! I got lots of stories.
If you don't mind?
It's your funeral. [laughs] She'll talk your ear off if you let her.
What do you think about your dad being a rockstar?
[shrugs] It's okay.
Wow, thanks for the endorsement, kid. You heard it here first: being a rockstar is just okay.
Would you rather he had another job?
[shrugs] What other job?
I dunno. Playing music's the only thing I've ever been good at.
Nuh-uh! Daddy's good at lots of things.
Like what?
Telling stories. Playing with me. One time, he built me a big castle out of pillows and chairs and blankets and we played in it all day 'til Mommy said it was time for dinner. And then we all went to bed in it. Like camping!
Camping? When did you go camping?
Mommy let us sleep outside and said it was like camping. It was when you were gone. I don't like when you're gone. It makes Mommy sad. And then I'm sad. And Pip's sad. You're not going away again, are you?
No, baby. I'm staying right here with you.
Good. [to Vogue] Do you wanna see what Daddy brought home for me last time he went away?
I'd love to.
Okay!
[Editor's note: just as quickly as she came, Munson's daughter ran off to go fetch the present from inside the house.]
Do you need a minute?
Nah. It just… [sighs] never gets easier, you know? Hearing how much they miss me when I'm gone. I miss them all the [redacted] time.
I'm not surprised. Just from the last five minutes, I can see how much she adores you and I can't imagine what it's like to leave that behind, even when it's to go on a worldwide tour.
It's tough. I love my job, don't get me wrong. It's what's given us this house, all the [redacted] that the girls need, anything they could ever want, but… [shrugs] I dunno. Sometimes giving it all up doesn't sound half as hard as leaving them is. Maybe that's just me being ungrateful.
I don't think so. I think it means you're human. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, you know? Torn between two worlds.
[laughs] Now there's an idea for an album. The dichotomy of being a rockstar and a father.
I'd listen to it.
Hell, so would I.
(might continue this with a lil follow-up fic of chrissy and eddie reading the interview before it goes to print... thoughts? 👀)

'Wait! Have we met before?'
Tumblr media
Seven Kings, one of the most popular alternative rock bands of the last few years, were playing a show in your hometown, which was actually also the band's hometown, but you knew all members had moved away after their break through. When you saw the tour announcement, which only had eight dates, you immediately called your best friend, Gisela, and you were hysterically screaming on the phone. When she finally understood what you were saying, she screamed just as hard. You both have been a fan since the very start of the band's career, seeing them at their very first free show in your city at a pub. And after that, you both went to every show near you, while the band became more popular and the venues bigger.
The band hadn't toured for a whole year and a half, as they had been recording new music and dealt with some personal issues back home. Sihtric, the bass player and your favourite member, went through a divorce last year, while Osferth, their guitarist, made headlines when word came out he was to become a father; of two different children, by two different ladies. It always baffled you how Osferth seemed so shy, yet he was a real ladies killer. Their other members, Finan, the drummer, and Uhtred, the singer/guitarist and Gisela's favourite member, seemed to have no struggles going on. And you were already excited when they announced their new album, a few weeks before the tour announcement dropped.
You and Gisela immediately stressed over the ticket sale. As the band had gotten more popular, the ticket sales became more horrifying. However, you couldn't complain, you always managed to get tickets, but it was always a bit of a punch in the gut you could never see your favourite band up close again. The newer fans randomly started to camp out for shows a few years ago, two days before the actual show sometimes, and you and Gisela drew the line there. You had no problem with getting to the venue early in the morning and queueing, but sleeping outside? For a show? Absolutely not. And so you both bitterly accepted your front row days were over.
Your most prized possessions are the photos you have with all the members, when you met them for the first and last time, seven years ago, when they opened up for a bigger band. You got to meet Seven Kings at their merch table, after the show. They had all been so lovely, which was a big reason why you kept supporting them. You pretty much grew up with them, as you were around the same age, and their music had helped you through various heartbreaks. But your heart was also somewhat broken when word got out that Sihtric got married, years ago. You and Gisela always joked how you belonged with Sihtric, and how she belonged with Uhtred. But then Sihtric got married, and you felt crushed for a day or two, but then life went on. It's not like you ever had a chance with the guy anyway. Uhtred was forever single, always whoring around with the groupies, as was Finan, and well… Osferth definitely too. Gisela said she'd still marry Uhtred if she could, and you couldn't blame her.
When the news broke last year that Sihtric was single again, Gisela blew up your phone with texts. You both chuckled at your delusions of marrying your favourite pretty boys, but never took it seriously, as they were famous, and truthfully, you barely knew anything about them.
On the day of the ticket sale you managed to score floor tickets, and you and Gisela were ecstatic. The show was already in a few months, and the album would be released in a few weeks. You both counted down the days and, when the album dropped, you and Gisela had a sleepover, listening to the record all night while desperately gushing over how good "your boys" looked in that new video, even though you both knew it was shot a while ago, as Finan's hair was short in the video, and you knew it was longer now.
'Did you hear you can win meet and greet tickets?' you suddenly asked.
'For real?' Gisela gasped, 'how?'
'All you have to do is enter your email address on their website, and a few winners get picked at random for each show.'
'Oh my god!' Gisela squealed, 'can you imagine?! We both have to enter!'
And so you both entered the competition. You knew chances were slim, their fanbase was huge, and many fans travelled to multiple shows, so they would try for every show they'd go to. You could only afford to go to one show, the one in your city, which was also the first show of the tour. You kept thinking of trying to get tickets for the last show of the tour, which was two weeks after your show, in a city which was only an hour away from you, but you never got them.
Tumblr media
The concert was in two days. You and Gisela were already going crazy with excitement, and when you suddenly received an email from their record label, saying you were one of the meet and greet winners, you were sure your entire city could hear you and Gisela scream.
'Oh my god, what do I wear?' you panicked.
'I need to buy new clothes!' Gisela cried.
'I have to dye my hair! Look at these roots!' you gasped as you looked at yourself in the mirror.
You and Gisela went shopping the day before the show, and you fixed up each other's hair, hoping you'd both look a little presentable among the other fans who had won.
'I wonder how many others there will be,' Gisela dreamed the night before the show, as she stared at her phone, looking at pictures of Uhtred, 'and I wonder what the guys will be wearing!'
'I'm so afraid it will be so rushed,' you pouted, scrolling through Sihtric's instagram, 'and me too, I can't wait to see their new look- oh my god!' you suddenly shouted.
'What?' Gisela jumped up.
'Sihtric just posted a selfie on his story!' you squealed, 'look! Oh my god, he has long hair now! Oh god, that smile!' you cried.
'Oh god,' Gisela snorted, knowing you were a sucker for tall, lean guys with shoulder length hair, 'you won't survive tomorrow.'
Luckily for you, Gisela had the same meltdown when Uhtred posted a new selfie too, revealing his new look as well, and you thought Gisela was about to faint. You both 'awww'ed' at Osferth and Finan's reveals, them always being cute and handsome, and after that, you desperately tried to get some sleep, as tomorrow was the day.
Tumblr media
'Is my hair okay?' you asked nervously, standing in front of the venue.
'Yeah, yeah, you look good,' Gisela said, 'mine?'
'You're always pretty, shut up,' you scowled.
You looked down at your outfit; black boots, black skinny jeans, and a comfy shirt of Seven Kings, which was actually their very first tour shirt, which you had always been very careful with. The shirt still fitted perfectly, but you did cut off the sleeves years ago, making it a sleeveless top. You anxiously looked around, confused, as there were only a handful of other fans who also won, and then you all figured there were no more than five winners, each allowed to bring a friend, so it truly was an exclusive thing. Gisela kept pulling at her little black dress. She heard that Uhtred apparently likes ladies in short dresses, so she went for it. You actually had no idea what type of girl Sihtric was into, as he was rather private and quiet in interviews. And his instagram page mainly had professional photos of him, taken during live shows or for promo, and if it wasn't that, it was a photo of another new bass guitar he got his tattooed hands on.
You all froze when suddenly a door opened, and your tickets got checked. Terrified that something was wrong with your ticket, your trembling hands showed the venue employee your papers. You all got cleared, ushered inside, and were told to wait in a comfortable lounge room.
'Okay,' Ragnar, the band's manager, said as he walked in the door, 'first of all, congratulations,' he smiled, and you all cheered quietly.
'The band will come out in a moment,' he said, 'and please… just… behave,' Ragnar sighed, 'no pushing or pulling, there is no need, there's only ten of you and you guys have almost an hour here with them, if you all behave that is,' Ragnar said sternly. 'Also,' he continued, 'no asking for kisses and there will be no boob signatures if you are underage,' he glanced quickly at a few girls who were absolutely no older than 16.
You and Gisela gave each other a sly smile, but you both felt you were too old for that kind of behaviour, so you wouldn't ask for anything like that anyway.
'Before you take your selfies with the guys, we ask you to just chill out and chat, get some albums signed and all that, the more relaxed you are, the better your pictures will be, okay?' Ragnar chuckled, 'those boys are all ugly anyway, so I don't even know why you are all here,' he snorted and left the room.
The younger girls gasped while you and Gisela laughed at the manager's sneer. Everyone adjusted their outfits before you all perked up at the sound of Finan's laughter closing in. And there they were. Finan got in the room first, grinning, wearing a sleeveless black shirt with denim jeans and sneakers. Osferth followed, in his white fishnet top, black jeans and leather boots. You heard Gisela exhale sharply next to you when Uhtred appeared, with a hint of eyeliner, a leather jacket with no shirt underneath, leather jeans and black boots. You looked at Gisela, who was blushing at the sight of her favourite, and you snorted. But when you looked back up, you saw Sihtric, his hair loose and wild, wearing a black leather dungarees with a black mesh shirt underneath, his dungarees tucked in his black Doctor Martens. Your heart skipped about five beats when you locked eyes with his mismatched pair for a second.
'Oh my god,' you breathed softly, grabbing Gisela's hand.
Then Ragnar walked in again and frowned at all of you, frozen on the sofas. 'Well, what are you waiting for?' he chuckled, 'they don't bite!'
'Maybe we do,' Finan grinned.
Then you all jumped up and, as expected, most girls ran over to Osferth and Uhtred, while Finan earned some company too. Because Sihtric was always the quiet one, he took a slight step back from the others, which is why some of the other hesitant fans didn't dare walk up to him, and turned to the other members. But this was your chance, you thought, so you went for it, while Gisela already left your side and stood next to Uhtred.
You took a deep breath and walked up to the handsome, slightly scarred Dane, who grabbed himself a bottle of water and sat up on a table, keeping to himself. When his eyes met yours again as you approached him, a sweet smile appeared on his face and he leaned back.
'Hello,' he simply said, with that soft, low voice you love so much, and he took a sip of water.
'H-hi,' you smiled, trying your best to not show your nerves, 'how are you doing?'
'Nervous,' Sihtric confessed with a chuckle, then tilted his head, 'and how are you, lady?'
'Nervous,' you laughed softly, which earned you another sweet smile from Sihtric.
'Surely not because of me, I hope?' Sihtric asked as he sat up, quickly looking you up and down with a sly smile.
'Maybe,' you half joked, feeling your face heat up when his eyes darted over you.
'Ah, don't be nervous for me,' Sihtric smiled and squinted his eyes a little, 'I like your shirt. Is it an original?' he asked and leaned in, his fingers brushing your shoulder as he felt the fabric.
'It is,' you smiled, 'I got it at the actual tour back then.'
'No way,' Sihtric said with big eyes and let go of your shirt, 'you stuck around all that time?'
'Even longer,' you giggled shyly, 'I first saw you guys at that free show here in the city, at the Irish pub.'
'At Clancy's?' Sihtric frowned, 'damn.'
'Yeah, but I had to leave early that evening,' you said, 'and I got this shirt when you opened up for that other band, you guys were at the merch-'
'Wait! Have we met before?' he gasped softly.
'Eh, actually, yeah,' you felt your cheeks heat up again and took out your phone, showing him the seven year old selfie.
'Gods!' Sihtric stared at your screen. He took your hand in his while you held your phone up to him, to get a better look. 'Yeah… I remember that night, I also remember you now.'
'What? No way,' you looked down at your feet.
'Yeah, yeah,' Sihtric said as he let go of your hand, 'you were the girl who told me you liked the metal chain I use as a bass guitar strap,' he smiled, 'because it reminded you of Peter Steele.'
'Oh my god,' you snorted, 'yeah, that was me. And you told me you stole the idea-'
'From Peter Steele,' Sihtric laughed, 'because I am the most unoriginal bastard.'
You both laughed at the memory, and suddenly Sihtric held his arms open to you. 'Come here, bring it in,' he smiled, 'you deserve a hug for still putting up with our music.'
You allowed Sihtric to pull you in, wrapping his arms around you, and he lightly stroked your back with his big, warm hands as you were pressed against his muscular chest. You could die peacefully now, you thought. You tried to pull back, but Sihtric held on a little longer before he let go, licking his lips with a soft smile when he looked at you again.
'You been to all our tours ever since?' he asked.
'Yeah, but more and more in the back of the venue, as you guys became more popular. I refuse to camp out for a good spot.'
'Ah,' Sihtric clicked his tongue, 'yeah, fandom behaviour got, eh, quite intense the last few years. People camp out, some even figure out our hotels, it's crazy,' he said, 'that's why I'm not that active on social media. You post one thing and suddenly a shit ton of people find out where you are.'
'Sorry to hear that,' you gave him a compassionate look, 'me and my friend also took a step back from the fanbase because of that,' you looked a little sad, 'people have no limits anymore these days. It's weird as shit.'
'Truly,' Sihtric nodded, 'but good to see we still got some decently behaving people who like us,' he winked and poked your shoulder.
'Oh, thanks,' you smiled shyly.
'So, can I sign anything for you or…?'
'Ehh, my ticket?' you smiled sheepishly, 'I forgot to bring my album.'
'You did not,' Sihtric snorted, 'really?'
You gave him a shy nod and buried your face in your hands, to which Sihtric laughed.
'Okay, hold on,' Sihtric smiled and got off the table, towering over you as he put his feet on the ground, and his fingers brushed over your arm, 'come,' he said, 'I'll get you another one.'
You hesitantly moved your feet towards the door Sihtric held open for you.
'But… I don't want to get in trouble,' you looked back at Ragnar, who was on his phone, 'I can just wait here?'
Trouble?' Sihtric shook his head with a smile, 'you won't get in any trouble, come,' he beckoned you over.
He didn't have to ask you again. You followed Sihtric through the empty hallway, to their merch stand, where he opened a few boxes.
'You had a cd or a vinyl?'
'Cd,' you said, 'the coloured vinyl was a little too pricey,' you blurted out by accident, not meaning to fish for anything or come off rude.
'I agree,' Sihtric sighed and looked up at you, 'we told the label to cut down that price. We don't even need that income anymore, to be honest,' he quickly grimaced, 'sorry, don't mean to boast or anything. But yeah, the record looks sick, but that price tag is ridiculous.'
'I agree,' you scoffed lightly, 'but, well, it is what it is.'
'Mhm,' Sihtric hummed as he grabbed a vinyl, 'it is what it is,' he smiled and got up again, 'what's your name, love?' he asked as he grabbed a silver marker out of a drawer and ripped the plastic off the vinyl cover.
You told him your name and stared at the vinyl, confused, then you suddenly realised Sihtric was writing your name on the record.
'W-wait,' you chuckled nervously, 'I… I can't afford that-'
'Shush,' Sihtric hushed sweetly and winked at you, 'I'm giving it to you, so it's a gift,' he shrugged and continued to scribble on the cover.
'Oh… o-okay,' you felt yourself blushing again, 'thank you.'
Sihtric smiled and silently nodded his head while looking down at the record, accepting your thanks. He closed the marker again and flung it in the drawer, then leaned in on the merch table, opposite of you, staring into your eyes with a soft smile.
'Can I get you anything else, pretty lady?' he asked, carefully pushing the vinyl your way.
'N-no,' you said with big eyes.
'Hm, what's your size?'
'No,' you chuckled, 'I… I will not steal any more merchandise.'
'You're not stealing any merch,' Sihtric laughed, 'tell me your shirt size,' he bit down on his lip.
'I will not,' you protested while butterflies marched through your stomach, because of Sihtric's playful voice and smile.
He suddenly made his way around the merch table and, before you realised what happened, you felt his rough fingers touching your neck, as he took the collar of your shirt and looked at the label.
'Got you,' Sihtric whispered in your ear before he hopped back to the merchandise.
He pulled out a sweater and two shirts in your size and pushed them in your hands, along with the signed vinyl.
'Sihtric, I-'
'Let's go, lady,' Sihtric chuckled as he looked around. He placed his hand on your lower back, guiding you with him, 'if anyone asks,' he looked at the pile of merch in your arms, 'you already had it. It's just our secret as to how you got it,' he winked, opened the door for you, and you stepped back into the lounge room.
Luckily, everyone else had been so occupied, no one even noticed that you and Sihtric had left the room for quite a few minutes.
'Thank you,' you said as Sihtric sat back on the table again, and he took another sip of his water.
'For what?' he grinned, then held his water bottle out to you, 'sip?'
Sharing a drink? With the man of your dreams? You'd be foolish if you didn't.
'Eh, sure,' you smiled and took the bottle out of his hand, taking a small sip.
You handed it back to Sihtric, who took another few sips before he closed the half empty bottle again, and handed it back to you.
'Keep it,' he smiled, 'so, you want a new photo? Now that we're both older?'
'Of course,' you said, taking out your phone again, fumbling as your arms were overloaded with everything Sihtric had given you.
Sihtric chuckled and grabbed your phone when he saw your struggle. 'Put the stuff on the table, love,' he smiled and then pulled you close, his arm around your neck, leaning heavily against you, and he flashed a sly smile as he snapped a few photos.
'Those good?' he asked, swiping through the selfies, keeping his arm around you.
'Yeah,' you smiled, feeling lightheaded at how close you were. You could even smell his cologne, which had hints of mint and cedarwood. You were absolutely smitten.
Sihtric handed you your phone and took a step back, his hand still on your shoulder, but before either of you could say something, another fan finally walked up to Sihtric. You noticed her and you stepped away, but Sihtric's eyes lingered on you before he looked at the other lady, and he somewhat reluctantly let go of your shoulder.
'I'll see you around,' Sihtric said with a sweet smile.
You returned the smile and walked up to the other members, joining Gisela again, who frowned at your arms full of merch.
'How did you get that?' she asked with big eyes as the other men were busy chatting with someone else.
'Sihtric gave it to me,' you whispered.
'Are you serious?'
'Yeah,' you smiled and told her what happened. Gisela couldn't believe it and kept saying how Sihtric must have liked you, but you shrugged it off. 'He's just really nice,' you said.
'Nice, my ass,' Gisela frowned, 'he keeps looking at you,' she said, upset, because Uhtred didn't pay her much attention apparently.
'No, he's not,' you scoffed, then looked over your shoulder and locked eyes with Sihtric, as someone else was talking to him, and a smile appeared on his face. 'O-okay, maybe he just looked now,' you stammered.
'What did he write on that record?' Gisela tried to get a look at it.
'Oh, shit, I have no idea,' you said, completely forgetting about that after everything that happened.
You looked at the vinyl cover and smiled at the way he wrote your name so gracefully, and had continued with;
Hope you stick around for another seven years, and longer...
Love you to death ;)
XO
Sihtric
'Love you to death?' Gisela's mouth fell open.
'No! It's not what you think!' you said, 'you know his guitar strap? The metal chain?'
Gisela nodded, her jaw still dropped.
'He stole that idea from Peter Steele, who was the bass player and singer for Type O Negative,' you explained, 'and one of their most famous songs is called Love You to Death. It's obviously a nod to the first time I met Sihtric, and said the metal chain reminded me of Peter, which we just talked about. Oh my god, I didn't even tell you yet!' you gasped, 'he remembered me when I showed him the photo we took years ago!'
'Oh my god,' was all Gisela could bring out.
Tumblr media
The rest of the meet and greet was a blur really. You just couldn't grasp your interaction with Sihtric, and Gisela kept telling you how Sihtric was constantly looking at you. You chatted and took pictures with the other guys too, who were just as friendly as the first time you had met, but your eyes kept wandering back to Sihtric, and you always found him looking at you from across the room. When the meet and greet was over, everyone just waved goodbye to each other, but Sihtric was quick to run up to you, to give you another firm hug before leaving, and said if he found you in the crowd, he'd throw you one of his guitar picks.
And before you knew it, you found yourself in the hot crowd. You were kinda close to the stage at first, but the crowd was constantly pushing and pulling, so you and Gisela moved further back halfway through the set.
As always, the show was fantastic, but when you left the venue you were sad you never got that guitar pick, as you had been too far away. Back home, you both couldn't stop staring at the pictures you got with your favourite member, and you posted your selfies separately on your instagram, tagging all members in their own photo. About an hour later you suddenly screamed, startling Gisela, who jumped up next to you on the couch.
'What happened?' she asked.
'S…S…S-Sihtric liked our selfie,' you wheezed, and just as you both looked at your screen, another notification popped up.
sihtric.kjartansson commented: beauty & the beast x
You felt dizzy and laid down on the floor, while Gisela took your phone to read the comment properly.
'Oh my god,' she laughed, 'he's totally into you!'
'Impossible,' you groaned, hiding your face behind your hands.
'Oh come on, we all stalk their pages, we know none of them ever comment. They rarely even like the posts they are tagged in!' Gisela said, 'you gotta dm him! He's totally flirting!'
'I thought about it, to… you know, thank him again in private but… I don't know…'
'You should!' she said, 'you should send a picture of you wearing one of those shirts he gave you, telling him it fits,' she giggled.
'Should I?' you frowned.
After some bickering, you finally agreed. You put on the comfy hoodie, which was the perfect amount of oversized, and you took a cute picture in the mirror.
You: The merch fits! Thanks for everything. Had a great time meeting you again, sad I didn't get that guitar pick though, the crowd was rough. Great show regardless! :)
You hit send and locked your phone. It was getting late and you were tired, so you decided to go home and sleep, figuring Sihtric would never reply anyway.
Tumblr media
The next morning you woke up and you had a near heart attack when you looked at your phone. Sihtric had liked your message and even replied. With shaking hands you opened your dms.
Sihtric: looking good lady x
Sihtric: sad I couldn't find you either, the crowd was indeed rowdy. hope you didn't get stuck in that mosh pit...
Sihtric: let me know if you're going to another show, I'll fix that pick for you x
You gasped, screamed and nearly cried. You screenshotted the messages and texted Gisela, who went feral too, and she asked what you were going to reply with. You had no idea yet, you needed some time to think. You also cursed yourself when you saw he had replied only 5 minutes after you had messaged him last night, while you were in bed already, trying to sleep. You figured he'd never reply again now, after 10 hours had passed by now, and you felt you had wasted the opportunity.
After an hour you finally gathered your courage and replied.
You: I know better than to get near a mosh pit haha! unfortunately last night was the only show I'll be at, I couldn't get tickets for the last show :( better luck next tour maybe!
You locked your phone again and got back under your covers, and a minute later your phone buzzed. You thought it was Gisela, but your heart skipped another beat with you saw it was Sihtric again.
'Oh my fucking god,' you breathed and opened the message.
Sihtric: damn, lady. Definitely hit me up next time you're seeing us, yeah? x
You replied with trembling hands again.
You: will do :) thanks again! x
Right after you pressed send, it showed that Sihtric had seen the message, and he started typing. Your head was spinning, how was any of this even real. Sihtric, out of all members, was the one who used his social media the least. Yet here he was, responding to you within seconds.
Sihtric: no worries love
Sihtric: was lovely meeting you again
Sihtric: how are you doing today then? x

What about reader showing Twilight Twilight (the movies) as a joke because they have the same name and wolves
Sure anon!! I hope you like this This isn't written by a twilight saga fan so I apologise for not liking the movies if that's what you wanted
Tumblr media
"You had something you wanted to show me darlin'?"
"Since you first arrived here - Since we first met I've been wanting to show you this, it's a perfect coincidence and I think you'd like it."
Gently shoving Twilight onto the couch before sitting next to him with the remote in hand, gave him plenty of time to think over what I'd just said. He certainly hasn't just short-circuited for that minute.
"It's a movie called Twilight, and it's about werewolves, mostly vampires, but I don't really care about them."
"...What's a werewolf?"
"You don't need to play coy link, I already know that you're Wolfie and that the kids have already explained what a werewolf is."
Leaning onto his shoulder now as it starts almost makes me miss being in Hyrule where we would be like this nearly every night around a campfire. Thankfully being back in the modern world has far more perks than drawbacks, but even then there are small things that I myself and I think the chain as well just miss. Maybe I could suggest a camping trip to them soon.
It’s a slow-starting film but Twilight seems to be enamoured by it, although part of that might be that this is the first film that I've shown him. It’d be nice if we managed to go through the whole series at once without being interrupted, well and if he wants to of course.
“...Why is his skin so… so shiny.”
“Because like he said link, he’s got the skin of a killer…”
"But that doesn't make any sense?"
"I know. Not a lot of it does, but the music is great.”
I could feel his wince as soon as I said that. However he’s not leaving me, he’s still here watching it with me. Does that mean he’s enjoying it or is it simply because he wants to spend time with me? Twilight, he can be too nice for his own good sometimes putting himself in harm's way or in this case sitting through a film that he clearly doesn’t like. The movie was over fairly quickly thankfully for Link, as his sigh of relief timed perfectly with the start of the credits.
“How did you find it then Twi?”
“I liked spending the time alone with you.”
“So you would be up for watching all the sequels with me now then?”
His silence was telling enough of his answer, not that I can blame him for it. Twilight is a very divisive film. He looked so excited at the start but it faded during the story.
“I’m not going to force you. We could watch something else or do something else though? I like spending time alone with you rancher.”
“Actually like I said during it, I love the music and one of the bands in it. I’ve got a record of theirs. If you want we could listen to it and relax with some drinks?”
Even though I knew it somewhat before, Twilight really expresses himself mostly through actions, doesn’t he? It’s got to be a side effect of him becoming a wolf, seeing just how puppy-like he acts most of the time. Wait…
“Is it safe for you to drink alcohol? I mean…”
“I’ve never had any issues so far.”
“As long as you think it’s safe for you. I probably can’t foot a veterinary bill at the moment.”
“What was that?”
“Nothing.”
Seems like my plan to watch the trilogy with him is out the window now, but the others are all out for the moment so why shouldn’t I make the most of having him all to myself like this? Drinking and listening to vinyl sounds like a nice evening, and since it's related to the movie I should still be able to talk about it. I’d like an answer for why he’s so pouty.
“The werewolves were offensive though.”
“That’s what bothered you the most?”
“...I just didn’t like them.”

Simple Acts
1999 saw a lot. The imminent coming of a new century and millennium all at once was thrilling and moving and terrifying. But 1999 saw Eddie and the band reaching a new level, touring and writing and performing in a way they had never really hit until then. They weren’t Madison Square Garden material, but they never really wanted to be anyway, so the cross-country road trips suited them more than fine. Signing onto a new record label that allowed them to really explore their sound was probably one of the best moves they’d made together. It was no dud year for Steve, either. Working at a summer camp was probably the last thing sophomore-Steve would have expected himself to do (besides being gay and knowing it, accepting it, being it). But Steve was outside, he was with kids, he was active all day. And the other counselors were understanding of his migraines, his aches and pains, the days he couldn’t be out on the lake because sometimes it was a trigger to things he really didn’t want the kids witnessing.
But the good had been outweighing the bad for a long time by then. Eddie and Steve had taken some time getting used to each other, way back in 1986, but by ‘88, Steve started to realize the way he saw Eddie was through-and-through different than how he’d ever felt about anyone. He was in love, and in the rain one night, he’d told Eddie.
They were each other’s from that moment onwards.
The house they’d bought together in ‘94 (after sharing an apartment with Robin for five wonderful years in Indy) was a quaint and quirky little two-bedroom down in Kentucky, not three hours from Hawkins, from Wayne and Hopper and Joyce, and the kids’ who’d settled there after all, after everything. (El and Mike, though they’d broken up in ‘87 and stayed platonic since then, to the relief of everyone but especially Hopper.) It wasn’t too far outside Louisville, if they ever wanted to get into the city for some fun. But with Eddie touring as much as he did, when the winter months came and gigs got less abundant, and Steve wasn’t out at the camp nearly as much, they mostly stayed around their town, around their little home, and were happy to be near each other.
Like now. Steve was standing behind Eddie with cheap hair scissors they’d gotten at the Dollar General years ago, tongue sticking out the corner of his mouth just enough to make Eddie laugh. The sunlight glinted off the gold band on his ring finger as he compared the left and right halves of Eddie’s (still) long locks. Long hair wasn’t really in fashion anymore, even singers, but Eddie held fast to it. He’d played around with all sorts of variations in the early 90’s, but in the end, the old reliable came right back around.
So every few months they were found like that, sitting out back in their yard, on the deck Wayne and Hopper had helped them build, and trimmed each other’s hair. It was never a bother, never a chore, but a simple bit of life they chose, over and over, to do together.
-
From this prompt list. Open for requests!! I really like that prompt list, and this just felt right for them.

Trolls Band Together Commentary Notes Part 1/4
Just bought the TBT dvd which comes with audio commentary so I gotta write out some of the fun stuff I learned!
- Originally they had a couple different ideas for opening. At one point they were going to start with V&V's backstory, then they tried an opening where JD breaks in to Mount Rageous to try to free Floyd, but eventually they wanted the audience to care about the brothers before any attempts to save them, so they went with the concert opening. - Commentary quote: "So many meetings about Funderdrawers..." - BroZone's young designs were purposely made to look all very similar to each other, and then as adults they get more unique looks as they all grew to find their own individuality. - Commentary quote: "I love to see the Trolls hugging. Just because I know much of a challenge that is. To get their big heads next to each other, that close. Man." - Branch and Poppy talking together in grandma's old pod was one of the first scenes animated. - There was an early scene where Poppy is trying on wedding dresses to model for Bridget (probably to make a joke where Branch sees her in one) but it got scrapped. - Eric André, JD's voice actor, was hilarious and gave hours and hours of recorded material, most of which unfortunately couldn't make it into the movie. - Originally they wanted JD to be much more similar to Branch; at a point they were even going to have a scene where he appears and the audience thinks he is Branch at first. They gave JD short hair and similar colors to Branch for that reason. His design started out as "What if Branch never met Poppy, and just went off and did his own thing alone for years." In his intro scene, he interrupts the wedding without thinking about it because he's been living alone so long, he has no idea of basic social cues. - Poppy's headband for the wedding is supposed to make you think of a friendship bracelet. - Rhonda was incredibly hard to design and animate, she's one of the most complicated characters in the movie. - Rhonda has an armadillo design because originally JD was exploring and living/camping out in the desert, before they switched it to the forest. Her coloring is based on the old RV's from the 70's.

[2k] -> one; a study in lake water and forest princesses.:  It’s the first day of camp and Billy does something stupid that sets Daisy on a summer-long path toward revenge. [3.6k]
KAREN SIRKO !
high by the beach. : The feelings that grow between you and Karen Sirko seem to be the easiest thing in the world. [2k] with a girl like you.: You first cross paths with Karen Sirko when your band is recording your first album. After the fact, you can't get her out of your head; turns out, Karen's been feeling the same way. [1.5k]

Hi! I’m about to dump a little ramble here I hope that’s okay :)
I’m fairly new to bts and have only in the last six months started to catch up on everything and then started observing the fandom. I have to say, the one thing that’s left me completely baffled about this fandom as an outsider is the way jimin and jungkook’s bond is treated.
I was prepared for seeing appreciation for all the different friendship-dynamics between the members, and I have seen that and it’s beautiful. Jimin is my bias so I like seeing his bonds with everyone. But the general difference in energy surrounding jikook compared to the other friendships is wild to me.
I was prepared to see tinhat type shippers who try to prove two members are romantically/sexually involved and will die on that hill, because there’s always those in every fandom. (and ofc I’ve seen those here too with several different pairings and I don’t necessarily have a problem with it unless they’re being completely inappropriate or harassing them or people in their life or whatever, you do you in fan spaces I guess), but what I was NOT prepared for is seeing jikook biased fans and shippers(?)supporters(?) spending more time defending the fact that they are even close AT ALL, than they do trying to prove an alleged romance. When to me as an outsider it’s incredibly obvious they have been/are one of the closest duos in the group and love each other dearly. Why is that not just accepted as fact? Why are people so hell bent on downplaying that reducing them to purely fan service? Of course they do fan service, all of them do, all groups like that do, but two things can exist at once. It’s super easy to detect when band members are acting close on camera but aren’t actually close, believe me I’ve seen it before, and jikook are definitely not that.
So why??
Some patterns I’ve obseobserved:
- Solo stans love rivalry. JM and JK are the most popular/stand out the most and have the most success with solo songs etc, therefore their fans simply have to dislike the other and see them as competition, -> can’t appreciate them together
- People dislike shippers who see them as something more than friends so much that it “ruined” their bond for them and they can’t appreciate their interactions because of it. (Childish if you ask me, never let what other fans say affect how you feel about the people you follow)
- They’re tinhat taekookers (nothing more to say here lol)
- They’re homophobic and/or jealous and can’t stand some of their flirtyness/jokes/other gay shit they do lol (but it seems to be mostly okay if it’s other pairs, only these two bringing out such a strong anti reaction… which I think is rooted in a few different things but that could be a whole other ramble so)
- They take out negative feelings about perceived mistreatment/favoritism/questionable career moves/believing one is better than the other etc on JM andJK to the point of not wanting to see them together. And I’m not saying some of those concerns can’t be valid, but letting it drive you to dislike one of them so much you can’t appreciate their bond is wild.
- They just don’t like one of them or both for whatever reason, which sure whatever not everyone’s gonna vibe with everyone. Who fans vibe with or not isn’t gonna change the fact that they clearly vibe with each other though, spewing negativity is pointless.
I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this if you have the time! Why do you think they’re so “controversial”?
Oh also for the record, I’m firmly in the “idc what they have just love them” camp. I can see why some think there’s feelings/attraction there, I can also see why some think it’s simply close friendship/found family/mutual admiration. That’s not the point here though.
first of all i hope you've been having loads of fun becoming a fan, i wish i could go back to the time when i first discovered bts🥹💜
i think the reason is all of what you've said but i have to add one more which is taekookers actively spreading proganda about jikook hating each other. that is a massive one i fear. from what i hear the first group most people come across when they become fans tends to be taekookers (i suppose the reason is that many people get drawn in by tae or jk) and tkkers are super hardcore when it comes to spreading pure hatred towards jimin and jikook. the biggest tkker accounts on twitter and youtube are hardcore haters of jimin and jikook and they come up with wild theories about how jikook hate each other.
i think they do that because they want to pre-empt people looking at jikook and seeing that they're close then questioning if jikook are in fact closer to eo than taekook, which wouldn't bode well for tkkers. once people are brainwashed any ridiculous theory will fly because they already want to believe that jikook hate each other.
whatever jimin or jk do alone or together, tkkers' first reaction is to relate it to proving that jikook don't get along. it's obsessive and frankly so ridiculous. for example apparently jungkook took a trip to japan with eunwoo last year. tkkers' first reaction was that this proves that jikook aren't dating and they're not special because jimin wasn't the only person jungkook 'took to' japan. which is lowkey funny to me coming from tkkers because it's not like jk went with tae. by their logic wouldn't they find it weird that jk travels with someone who's not tae?😭but this is just an example of how far tkkers take their hate and jikook could do literally anything in the world, it would still mean that they hate each other. they didn't have to connect jk and eunwoo's trip to jikook but they still did because they're obsessed and they can't stop talking about how much they think jikook hate each other.
solos are very loud these days but from what i've seen they don't tend to focus on jikook's relationship (or their faves' relationship with other members in general) more than just spew hate towards the members. it's not very ship-specific i don't think. undoubtedly some of them dislike jikook's bond because they don't want them to be close but it's more coming from misguided hate towards either of them than anything actually related to what jikook say/do.
however i will say i think solo stans' bs do affect jikookers/people who would be a fan of both of them and more and more people are 'choosing sides' which to me is really sad...it was definitely a case in the past that most jikookers biased jimin but now the majority of those people have become solos or if they don't say that they've become solos, they displayed very extreme anti reactions to jungkook which is why i have half of jikookers on tumblr blocked😭
there's also a big issue with tkkers harassing people who post positively about jikook especially if it's someone who's a 'non shipper', for example they made numerous 'non shipper' youtubers delete positive reactions to jikook videos or flooded their comments saying that jikook hate each other. 'non shippers' like anyone else don't want to be harassed so many just choose to not talk about jikook i guess.
i've not really been in fandom spaces this year like i was in the past and what became apparent to me is that a lot of drama is just on twitter which is almost like its own bubble. if you look outside of twitter i think the majority of bts fans bias either jimin or jungkook and a lot of those people don't have an issue with their friendship. i see a lot of people get chimmy and kooky keychains together for example and i think outside of twitter a lot of people will be enjoying jikook's travel show.
a reason why i kind of 'left' twitter is because i realised that jikookers focus on the negativity around jikook a lot both from tkkers and solos. i think perhaps there's a tendency for jikookers to highlight the negative bc we want to protect jikook and react strongly to hate but i think this can skew how we think people view jikook if we are focusing on the negative so much. i mean i completely understand it but i think this is also why there's so many solos in the fandom in general, we want to protect the members so much so that we end up focusing on the hate which will then start to seem really extreme and people get more and more passionate towards defending whoever they think deserves it most and end up resenting other members because of their fans' behaviour.
i'm kind of down about bts fandom in general these days because it seems to be in shambles. a good thing though is that years of tkkers and solos didn't seem to affect jikook's bond at all which i didn't think it would. i'd love to say that i think things will get better and people will start to appreciate jikook's friendship but i just don't see it happening😭maybe i should become more hopeful if we are getting people like you with common sense becoming fans!

was it confirmed which of which lyrics/songs in tttyg were purely patrick and which ones were heavily edited by pete? i keep wondering because when i listen to space camp, i can't help but think "i can't forget your style or your cynicism/somehow it was like you were the first to listen to anything we said/my smile's an open wound without you/and my hands are tied to pages inked to bring you back" felt like pete talking to ps, even knowing that space camp was originally written by ps about his trip away from the band
So, this is one of those things that I feel like I've seen differing accounts in places of who wrote what and when. Much like the hiatus, the story changes, and I think for the same reason, because their memories shift and see things differently. As someone who has co-written, it becomes incredibly hard to remember what you wrote and what the other person wrote -- and I wasn't even creative forever soulmates with the other people (no offense to my creative partners, who were all wonderful!!!!!).
ANYWAY, there's this tttyg commentary which I know watched all of at some point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPp1tCK7LLA
It's been a while, though, so I don't remember all of it. I *do* remember very vividly Pete saying that he told Patrick to change "where is your man" to "where is your boy," because saying "man" was ridiculous at Patrick's age hahahaha. PETE WAS RIGHT AT THE TIME but it's still a hilarious edit on Pete's part lololololol.
I know Patrick is on the record as saying that he mostly wrote Saturday on his own, and I think he's even said that he was so proud of "I read about the afterlife but never really lived more than an hour," because he thought Pete would like it. But I've also seen Pete claim that he wrote the "Pete and I attacked the Lost Astoria" bit, only with Patrick's name in place of Pete's, which Patrick changed when he sang it. But that might have been a joke on Pete's part, because it was in answer to a website Q&A. I've never been able to decide which is more devastating: if the lyric originated with Pete or Patrick. I like that it feels like a Schrodinger's box of a lyric to me. ;-)
I can't remember reading anything specifically about Homesick at Space Camp, although the bit about "my smile's an open wound" definitely sounds like a Pete-Wentz-ism. But the interesting thing about Patrick is that he seems have always to dovetailed a little bit with how Pete writes lyrics, like, I used to think he picked it up from Pete, but I think he always had a tendency to sound a little bit like Pete. Maybe that's part of what makes them such good soulmates, they've always kind of spoken an approximation of each other's languages.

🍓 🥤 🌿 for the ask game!!!! <333
🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?
one of my favorite k facts tbh. i invented fanfiction at jesus camp with my new friend eden. we clutched each other on a hillside while a god rock band performed below, puffy with mosquito bites and illicit ideas, and whispered to one another of the members of our mutual favorite band, what if they kissed each other? we were 13 years old. camp was so in-the-middle-of-nowhere you could see the whole milky way at night, the thickness of it. the grass got wetter and wetter the longer you sat in the dark, hiding from the flashlights of your counselors. every few breaths you'd see a shooting star, til you were numb to marvel, til that was just what the night sky looked like and you expected it everywhere. it was magic and no one had ever thought of it before, boys in bands kissing. when we went home to our separate cities, i started handwriting fic (decorated with gel pen! this was the year 2003) and mailing it to her in hot pink envelopes. imagine my surprise when i discovered the internet.
🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
one of my favorite fics i ever read was a girl!one direction story about squirting. here it is: you change, water sea by got2ghost
🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity
love this question, as someone who has struggled in the workplace to maintain the same creative energy i had access to in school.
for creativity: read. read endlessly. try to understand on a granular, sentence-and-word-level, why you like the things you like; what makes a line funny, what makes a line scary, what draws you in to a writer's style vs pushes you out of it. what do the books you can't put down have in common? read things that challenge you--long-form novels, old novels, things way outside your preferred genres. and try to have lots of experiences in the time you aren't writing. try new things! paint something, walk down a block you've never been on, look in people's windows, cook a new meal, get coffee at a new place, go for a drive, listen to someone else's favorite record, listen to a record you hate actually, go to a new store and just look around, touch fabrics, dance, have conversations, travel for no reason, watch videos on youtube about new skills you don't intend to master. READ NONFICTION, especially essays. try to avoid doing the same things you're comfortable with or things that feel easy for a whole afternoon. bury yourself in sensation. chase pleasure. let yourself play.
for writer's block: write anyway--in a journal, in your fragmented notes file with ideas, edit or polish something that's already written, get one sentence out. i like to set a timer for 20 minutes and give it a proper try (this means staying off tumblr and my phone) and then, if it doesn't lead to anything, i'm off the hook guilt-free, because i made an effort. try writing in a different notebook, with a different pen, in a different place, even in a different font on your computer. set yourself challenges like, write a 100 word story. write a specific type of poem like a villanelle. respond to a prompt or create one for someone else. if there's a part of the story--or a different story--that feels more easeful to write and you're just trying to get there, skip to that part. to be quite honest, writing in a notebook away from technology is the #1 thing that helps me just keep moving. it breaks me out of distraction and perfectionism cycles. it feels good to fill pages, even if it's with words you don't even up using.
the other part is, accept that our brains won't do what they won't do. great writing is not created by use of force. the biggest thing i have learned about myself is that if i can't write, there's something wrong. maybe the characters in my story aren't making sense, maybe the plot is boring and readers will be just as bored as i am, maybe i need to go back and rewrite something to end up in a better place for the next scene, maybe i need a week off from a story because i'm burned out on it and i should write something else or nothing at all. but most often there's not something wrong with the story--there's something wrong with my life. i don't have the time or the energy; i'm giving too much of the best parts of myself to the wrong thing; i'm trying to write at the wrong time of day for my energy level; i checked my email first and now my concentration is entirely shot; i need to work fewer hours if i want to write more; i need more help around the house if i want to write more; i need to just let it be dirty for a while and skip my chores if i want to write more, etc. figuring out what you need to actually feel like writing--learn to feel that again!--and making it possible to set other things, even important things, aside in order to write when you feel it, is so huge for me. making a commitment to the practice of writing and not the product of it. if you're doing that, you can relax. take care of yourself and fix the imbalances in your life. the ideas will come. writing is organic and we are organisms. given space and time, things will always change from how they are right now. let yourself and your creative practice ebb and flow when it needs to instead of forcing it to be something it's not.
thank you for the ask darling sorry i ranted at you for twenty fucking minutes!!!

what happened in Prague, the Luis thing? And who is the dude anyway? Wth with holding spots lmao. If I were there and someone tried to make me lose my own spot over that f*** that tbh.
According to an alleged witness in Prague, Luis was allegedly given 25-30 of the wristbands for FZ early entrance and got to cut in front of people who had been waiting all day.
Now, his story is that he and the others were actually going to stay overnight the night before to ensure those spots, but were told they could not camp overnight, perhaps by Livenation or venue staff; it's not clear. However, according to Luis, he was told that he could write a list of those who were with him, and their spots would be held. So, he did, and his group went to a hotel.
The next morning, people had already lined up for FZ entry and had been given numbers for their place in line. According to witnesses, Luis and his group cut the line, claiming they had an agreement from the previous night. Claiming a mistake had been made, the line was renumbered, and Luis and his group bumped those who had been waiting.
The Prague situation is much murkier, but a purported witness claims that Luis said he was holding ten spots for others in the front row. Frankly, I'm not sure how that would work, but in any case, Luis later posted his prime front row spot to IG.
He also posted video of himself running to prove he was "just like other fans" and not getting special perks. Which, fine, but it sure looks like reputational damage control from a guy who got busted abusing an inside connection. How else do you get twenty-five to thirty FZ wristbands out of an allotment of sixty?
Additionally, another fan claims that he has done this multiple times before and they saw him and his group at the barrier before anyone else was even allowed to enter the FZ at another show on a previous tour. Which, if true, speaks to an inside connection with someone either in band management or the promoter's organization. I can't blame anyone for having connections, or even trading on them, but if you're going to do that, it might get noticed, and you might get called out.
He did, and he was, and rather than be quiet and enjoy his perk, he's wasting energy on damage control.
FZ is a thing I will never need to worry about, but it does suck for the fans who stood in line all day just to get bumped by some connected cool kid.
For the record, I don't think he needs to be run out of fandom on a rail. I think he got caught working the system and is trying to skirt the fannish fallout, which, so far, is being grumped at online. And that is where it should stay.

Roxanne/Robbie Sawyer
The Frontwoman/The Frontman
Roxanne has more of a close up since I really love the make up look I did for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Roxanne/Robbie Sawyer | 18 yrs old | she/her or he/him:
Ro is a star, brimming with charisma and infinitely magnetic. Ro’s been singing since they could form full sentences and they don’t plan to ever stop. Though Ro has been singing for as long as they can remember they didn’t meet their bandmates and create The Rebel Rejects until the summer before their junior year of high school at music camp.
Even though they’re the frontperson and leader of the band they strive to keep the band a collaborative democracy and never a dictatorship. Come university application deadlines the band decide that no matter what, they had to stick together. When searching through schools and programs the vote for the NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music was unanimous.
Ro knows that if they truly want this punk band to make it to the top in this pop centered world, then they still have a lot to learn. Luckily Ro is even better under pressure. They intend to embrace everything university has to offer, and rise to the top along the way.

Ro Sawyer Q&A
Q: What's your sign?
A: I'm a proud Leo, and yes most of what they say is true.
Q: How tall are you?
A: Roxanne- I'm 5'2! Not that I let that stop me from commanding the stage. *smirk*
A: Robbie- I'm 5'8. 5'11 in my favorite boots. *wink*
Q: Name your top 5 bands?
A: Choosing favorites is tough, but if I have to, I'd say The Clash, Bikini Kill, Green Day, Sleater-Kinney, and The Slits.
Q: What's your favorite food?
A: Nothing beats a classic slice of pizza. Boring I know. *shrugs*
Q: What's your ideal date?
A: Picture this – a low-key underground gig in a hidden venue. We're just soaking in the tunes, dancing and feeding of the energy of the crowd. After that, maybe a casual wander through the city and just letting the night unfold naturally.

I just saw this poll that was apparently the product of a debate among non-Americans as to whether or not summer camp is real. Americans were supposed to select one of several answers describing how real it actually is and what their direct experience is with it (like "I've been to one" or "I've heard of them but never known anyone who went"), as if to prove their claim. One option suggested it was only for rich people. Never in my life did it occur to me that the reality of summer camp was up for debate, but I also never thought about the economics of it. As a kid I was just glad I didn't have to go; forced-fun is really hard on me still, I hate even friendly competitions because I am literally incompetent, and I couldn't imagine being in a situation where I wouldn't ever be alone for days or weeks at a time. We had to go to band camp, which was just a day thing at school for a month or so, and I'm sure that was a combination of our parents just wanting to get rid of us and also wanting us to have extracurriculars on our record. But it never occurred to me that proper sleepaway summer camp was out of our price range, probably because wealthiness was not part of the cliche of summer camp.
Tumblr media
Like, the 1980s was the era of a film subgenre called snobs versus slobs, a prime example of which is the movie MEATBALLS, which pits kids at a working class summer camp against the rich jerks at a much ritzier camp nearby; the stereotypical vision was that summer camp is for everyone, but the rich people versions are less wholesome, farther away from the American-as-apple-pie camp experience god intended. I also recall a Saturday morning cartoon called Camp Candy, in which John Candy was the beloved counselor of an earnest little camp that was under threat from a rich developer--again here, money is the enemy of the salt of the earth, egalitarian decency of summer camp. ERNEST GOES TO CAMP involves scrappy juvenile delinquents at a camp that is antagonized by a greedy strip mining corporation, so money is only a theme insofar as "camp" represents something common and honest that is antithetical to contaminating wealth. The standard summer camp narrative is most often about underdogs trying to save something they love, and not about rich people either finding their souls or getting their comeuppance (unless they're the bad guys who are generally not "real", sincere campers). Personally, my closer cultural connections are with FRIDAY THE 13TH and SLEEPAWAY CAMP, which take place in rural New Jersey; nowhere is there the idea that Jason Voorhees' mom was rich, and although there's evidence of wealth regarding the first family you meet in SLEEPAWAY CAMP, the prevailing image is not of snotty prep school students, but of regular, somewhat coarse suburban kids who don't mind skinning their knees and getting their hands dirty and eating cafeteria slop dished out by a filthy pervert.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do get the idea (just now, from searching the internet) that summer camp is exorbitantly expensive nowadays due to inflation (and probably escalating greed, just like with everything else), but even though it can involve room and board etc for days or weeks, I never acquired the prejudice that camp in general was only for the upper crust, like I'd assume about ski school or uh sailing lessons or I don't know what. And I mean there's a lot of stuff like that in mainstream media, where e.g. blue collar families have homes and possessions that are WAY too nice, or something like that. It's just something film and TV creators do to make things more inviting and less depressing, I think, and that can skew popular conceptions of how expensive certain things actually are. But I'm looking at a Reddit right now confirming my perception that versions of summer camp were available to middle class Americans in the 1960s-80s, and that the idea that the price tag of it would compete with college tuition is pretty recent. But it's still funny to me how often I see people on here assuming that if they've never personally experienced something, no matter how often they've heard of it, then it's probably not real. That's some protagonist syndrome shit right there. Just because you've seen an artificially enhanced version of something on TV doesn't mean it's a fake idea contrived to make an idiot out of you. You can do that all by yourself.
