Super-boring info about how I use the Fractal Audio AX8 for Stormzone shows. I use a single preset, with six scenes. Scenes on an AxeFX are like having your guitar tech stomp on a pile of pedals, change settings on a few of them and maybe change the channel on your amp or change to completely different amp - all at the press of a single footswitch! Once you go scenes, you never go back. Anyways, I have each pedal labelled in a way that makes sense to me: . R - my main rhythm scene, used for 95% of the show. It has a noise gate, an amp block (the FAS Brootalz model, which is a combination of a SLO100 and an Engl Savage), split into stereo so the left channel can go into a power amp & cab on stage, and the right channel has a cab block (the Petrucci V30 cab) for going straight to the PA. . R+ - the same as R, but with delay, and a bit louder. Used for harmony parts or solos over quieter bits. . L - my lead scene. Same as R, but with the noise gate turned way down, a bit of compression, chorus (ZW style!), delay, and an overdrive kicked in for a bit more grunt. Oh, and a lot louder :) . C - my clean scene. I like 80s sounding clean tones, so it has compression, chorus and some delay, and the amp model is switched to the USA Clean which is a Mesa/Boogie Triaxis model. . YNTS - this is for the effected sound used in You’re Not The Same. It’s basically the same as R+, with a flanger. . REVN - this one isn’t a scene, it just turns the pitch block on and off. The pitch block will do different things depending on which scene is currently active - on R+ and L, it will be an intelligent harmoniser in the key of F#m (technically Fm because we tune down a half step) that I use for the intro/outro and lead break on Revolution. On the rest of the scenes, it will be an octaver, which I use for… . OCT - this scene is like R+ but with the pitch block turned on in octaver mode and the overall volume turned up a bit more. I use this for the intro to Cushy Glen and the middle of Albhartach. .
