mary sees francis, following her gaze to where she hears the whisper in the wind. he was walking through the grass, which were scattered with white frangipanis. there were also red roses, and yellow and purple flowers decorated around brown vines.

she is a bit confused, as he was sitting right across from her… and yet she sees a vision of him here? she sees him more fully formed, sparking hope of better times.

she then quickly looking to the reflection across from her, which starts flickering at the edges ; as she leans in to take his hand near the coffee cup.

‘ what are you doing here? ‘ she says, wonder colouring her tone. as she watches him continue walking to her, his blond hair swaying a little in the wind. wearing a light black leather jacket and grey shirt. he seemed quite disoriented too, yet with more hope she and him would be reunited…

‘ your drawing of me is beautiful, ‘ he says softly, it reviving life in him quite, red colouring his cheeks again. he had died a while ago from a fatal head injury, when saving mary from assassins in this very wood they were in. it meant something very dear to him, helping with coordinating through his pain in this moment.

‘ the world is a better place with your soul in it, ‘ mary says. ‘ laughing with you plucks anxiety out of my heart. ‘

he being reminded of how he played the violin 🎻 ;; playing songs to mary in french court.

mary hands him his white tunic which was still splattered with blood from his death.

‘ your scent of iron with dirt and leaves emanated from them, i refusing to let anyone wash them lest they make your presence dissipate forevermore, ‘ mary says quietly, tears trickling down her face. yet tears of joy. she had used the tunic as a pillow, folding it gently beneath her head every night.
