Can anyone give any context to this handholding? I know it’s from #Carefree and the dress is for #Changepartners #hypnoticdancescene but it’s shot inside the country house and Fred and Ginger’s charters had no reason to hold hands at this point in the film. fred and ginger do occasionally kiss in their movies! but they don't *romantically* kiss on screen until their 8th film (out of 10 lol). all the others prior to that are comedy kisses (top hat) or the ones the camera doesn't show (swing time) or ones that get thwarted at the last second (follow the fleet and also swing time again). something prompted them to in their 8th film (carefree), and then their last two films they play married couples so they kiss a lot!

This is interesting! I have to admit, I feel like I need to rewatch the Fred and Ginger films more closely because they blend together in my memory. I think I've seen at last half of their movies, but not the last ones.

(I lied—I have seen "The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle" but that was ages ago so I don't think I remember many details.)

It's also interesting to see how they show intimacy between their characters in other ways rather than the obvious reasons—whether due to censorship or creative choices. The "secret kiss" from "Swing Time" is particularly adorable!

I just love the cute fluff and spectacle of it all and that spark of the 1930s comedies. 💋

Bahaha! I stumbled across my old live journal! While searching for Miranda Richardson content I came across "rh_supertrekkie" that has an avatar of Ginger Rogers and thought to myself... "Wait, is that me?" Clicked on it and sure as shit IT IS ME! I totally forgot about this profile and how much stuff I posted on there. So many great icon sets.

(I wonder if these files are still on my old Mac? First i have to find my old Mac but if I do I'm for sure loading some of these Icons onto here (without the Photobucket watermarks))

Funny how even though we change over the years, we also stay the same. My interests have not changed in nearly 20 years! (I made this account in 2007 (the year I graduated high school!)) And most of the stuff I posted icons of then, I make gifs of now!

Swing Time / Ginger Rogers as Penny Carroll

This is definitely an unexpected wedding outfit! I'd love to know the colors of the individual items. The jacket is made of some shiny material, with a flared skirt, princess seams, and slight leg-of-mutton sleeves. Over this, she wears a fur with attached fresh flowers. The gloves are dark, but not as dark as the skirt, hat, and clutch purse. She does have a veil, but it's just dark netting attached to a round hat with a bow on top.

Another interesting feature of the jacket is the long row of small buttons down the front. I have started calling these "1936 buttons," as I've noticed them on dresses in other movies that came out that year. Ginger has a similar row of buttons on another of her dresses from the same movie, for the number "Waltz in Swing Time" (see below). You can also see them on Jean Harlow in Libeled Lady.

What is Aziraphale's favorite movie?

Top Hat. It’s a Fred and Ginger movie from the 1930s. There’s romance, mistaken identity, gorgeous dancing, catchy and clever music, and the costumes. The costumes, my dear! Ginger Rogers wears this dress that’s resplendent with feathers and I’m certain Aziraphale was channeling that energy with his feather boa in 1941. It’s pure escapism and fantasy.

Monochrome July Follow the Fleet - Sherry Martin (Ginger Rogers)

I had to have Ginger to start off Monochrome July! This gorgeous beaded gown with its bell sleeves might be my favourite of her dresses. It hangs beautifully, and I like the fur collar. Apparently Fred was not a huge fan of this dress, as the sleeves kept hitting him in the face during the routine! (To be honest, I wouldn’t enjoy being hit in the face with beaded fabric either!) But it looks beautiful, and it’s super glamorous, as Ginger pretty much always is.
