RTC headcanons: Ricky Edition!

Ricky loves reading science fiction. If it wasn’t obvious, he enjoys getting lost in a good book and finding his way out of it with the characters

Ricky is a maladaptive daydreamer, and would frequently zone out in class, especially when he already knew the concept, and he’ll always be daydreaming during choir practice, giving people the assumption that he’s not all there in terms of brains

Ricky is wicked intelligent. His parents wanted him to be book smart even if he couldn’t speak, so they fed his curiosity and desire to learn by helping him learn to read and if he isn’t reading, he’s probably being forced to do something by Ocean’s command

He knows both American Sign Language and his parents’ version of sign language. So he often jokes that he’s bilingual. Constance finds it hilarious, but Ocean just has that motherly “oh yes, that’s wonderful, dear” attitude

Ricky’s love language is drawing for people. He draws for Connie and she loves everything he gives her. He drew for Ocean like one time, but he does draw for Noel and Mischa, mainly for Mischa just cats in traditional Ukrainian outfits. Mischa has never thrown away a single picture

Ricky is paler than most people. It’s just his natural skin tone and it gives him a slightly sickly appearance, but he’s actually very healthy

He hates assumptions. People always, always, always assume he’s a tragic case or a disfigured person but he’s just a guy who loves cats and space. He never assumes much about anyone, just loves

Ricky and Penny became fast friends. Penny enjoys signing with Ricky, Ricky enjoyed having another person to talk to. He sat next to her when they were riding the Cyclone and felt oddly connected to the girl with a doll’s head

Ricky has two mobility aids, crutches and a wheelchair. The wheelchair is usually used for when he’s just around town and he uses it more than the crutches, which he only uses when he needs to be transported somewhere quickly

For the most part, how Ricky and Noel became friends was by random chance. Noel was sitting out the gym class in first grade because he didn’t want to be all sticky and sweaty, and Ricky, who couldn’t participate, was doodling. Ricky drew Noel and wrote a little note and Noel loved his art so much. They both watch horror/sci-fi movies on weekends

Ricky is non-binary and he uses he/they pronouns. He’s also pansexual and has had a crush on everyone in the choir at least once

Mischa actually opened up to Ricky first. He knew he couldn’t talk so he sent him a note saying “you’re the cat guy, right? I think your art is awesome :)” Ricky loved that note, he still has it tucked away in his sketchbook

As Ricky was dying, they felt less scared than the rest of them, yes, it was terrifying, but he felt like his time in Earth wouldn’t be that long anyway

Ricky still watches over Penny after she came back to life. In a way, she feels his presence and knows he’s there, even if she can barely remember who they were

*Noir Detective Voice* Thursday, January 5th, 2022, hours before being diagnosed with COVID-19 and unknowingly six days into actually having it,,,,,ngl if i was like, a cartoon character, it would have been adorable and i find it infuriating but i fully did the, eyes swimming, valiantly holding back tears, until momsauce looks at me and FLOODGATES AND “I really don’t feel good” AND *STARTS SOBBING*

Happy Endings, though Bittersweet is also good. I like to have my emotions wrung out and turned into a baseball bat which is then used to ALMOST murder me but then the ending turns out to be a highly competent doctor which then Heals Me and waters my crops and builds me a little house in the countryside to live out my days in peace

8. Any special talents?

i think my developing-stories hobby counts as a talent? it doesn’t really qualify as ‘special’, but i do be coming up with some Stuff and can make some pretty big leaps from very small prompts on the fly, which i didn’t realize until a friend pointed it out.

oh, also don’t know if it counts as a talent since there’s no on and off switch on it but irl people tend to come tell me their problems/backstory/any Drama(tm) they have going on even if we’ve barely spoken before that so

Painstakingly outlining stories and then usually not writing them, daydreaming about Blorbos, analyzing fiction, crochet, painting, sewing, a few little videogames.

YES i have three boys their names are Norrell, Chellers, and Eggroll. Eggroll is actually the eldest, he is gray and fluffy and smaller than the others. He was an outside cat until last August, when we moved and brought him with us. He has been thoroughly enjoying his retirement from the outside cat life. Norrell is SealPoint and Squishy and has big paws and Chellers is a fluffy black cat with no bones, they’re both four. These three are perfect and silly and i love them so much

12. What sports do you play/have played?

I played Red Rover once. OH!! I did paintball once. I think we used to play foursquare fairly frequently. 

13. How tall are you?

Last time i was actually measured it was 5′1/2″ but i think it’s more like 5′2″ now, surely.

14. Favorite subject in school?

Originally it was Math but then we hit that part where Math was work and Language Arts was intuitive and it’s been Language/related ever since.

What instantly tells you if a person is good?: I usually have quite a good gut feeling/instinct when it comes to people, so I'm gonna say the vibe

Do you have a recurring dream?: Not anymore, but growing up I frequently dreamt about my teeth falling out - either that I could pull them out one by one or they fell out all at once & ended up choking on them... can someone tell me if this is normal? Should I be concerned for my younger self?

What is the most interesting class you have taken?: I'm gonna have to say when I was studying History A (autumn 2020), I remember having such a strong feeling of "I'm home, this is where I'm supposed to be" & I try to remind myself of that whenever I have a life crisis & feel like giving up on history for a "safer" field

How often do you find yourself daydreaming?: Way too often

Name/nickname: Saga, I don't really have a nickname... one of my friends has said that if I was a dog I would be a poodle, so she sometimes refers to me as that

I have a question about yandere. Do yandere love themselves (love yourself)..cause I read that though they project their love and possessiveness to the object or someone borderline insanely and we get to know their thoughts about their darlings only. People say projecting those mostly possessiveness things is like projecting your insecurity. What about their thought process. What do they think about themselves in more in-depth.

And let's say if there was a darling who is true to herself with good emotional intelligence and knows how to deal with red flags especially the manipulative ones...how would the yandere deal with it.

Wow, I feel honored you would come to me, the sinful yandere gremlin, to ask these questions. I'm not sure if I have good answers to that, lol.

I guess, in the end, everything depends on your yandere definition. There are enough games/lore/etc. that have shaped the word into that of a person that's more or less lacking emotional stability/emotions at all. Only when they find their person (or, rarely, object) they will start to finally feel something inside of them again and only think about that darling, get obsessed with them. So basically, psychopath or sociopath that starts to only truly live once they have found what they were always looking (destined?) for.

However, I think here on Tumblr at least, we are pretty much set on the differences in yandere types like the possessive, obsessive, protective, etc. (If you want to look into those, I know @/yandere-daydreams has two posts or more about them. Just use the search option on their blog!) and those are just the supercategories we are basing the personalities on. If you have/create a yandere that is very confident, I don't see a reason why they wouldn't love themselves in varying degrees, except if you want that as their insecurity. I also don't see why an obsessed yandere with stalker tendencies shouldn't like themselves. Except, again, if you're going to use that as insecurity to justify their actions. I frequently write about a yandere!Bakugou who is so overly confident that he wants his darling to admire him, and I think in this case, it would be weird if he didn't like himself. That would ruin the character I built for him, though, of course, someone could interpret that as his insecurity showing.

Technically, you can handle yandere like you would with any other personality. I don't think it's unlikely either for a character who very much likes themselves to get upset because the thought of not being great enough to keep their darling's attention on them is sending them spiraling mentally. And possessiveness is not necessarily insecurity, even if it can come from insecurity. Likely, yes, not a must though. However, I am eyeing supernatural fanfiction here, but the possessiveness of a werewolf doesn't necessarily mean they are insecure.

For their in-depth thoughts, it somewhat comes down to: is the yandere aware of how bad they are behaving? Or are they delusional? Both minds would circle around their darling, but a delusional would refuse to see anything wrong with their treatment of their darling, while yandere who are aware will have a moral fight against themselves between what they want (keeping their darling and loving them) and laws, society, the knowledge about what is right. Both types of yandere have very chaotic thoughts, just in different ways. One might be absolutely in love with finally owning their darling and spending time with them, while the other dies inside whenever they think about what they did.

In the end, it's up to us who are thinking about the yandere how they see themselves. They could love themselves and stand behind what they are doing or not. However you choose their personality to play out. 'Yandere' alone does not make a complete personality, especially not if it's fanfiction. You'll always have to work with what you already have and turn it into something that makes sense for the characters. That's the great leeway we have with the fictional concept of yandere! So many possibilities!

As for the darling who's good at seeing the red flags: it also depends on the yandere. Some yans might be put off with not being accepted. Not to a point where they could let go of their darling and wishful thinking, but so that they remain an onlooker from the distance and stalker of the night. Realistically thinking, the best a darling can do is get a restraining order. However, I'd wager the yan is neither happy nor going to accept that. Not every yandere is physically or mentally strong enough to kidnap/threaten their darling though, so they do whatever they can, even if it never gets farther than being a nightly visitor at the window. However, even they might reach a breaking point on some occasion. Other yandere won't take 'no' for an answer at all. Like I said above, it really depends on the personality, character, and type. There's no way you can just put it all under one hat and call it done. Yandere doesn't have to be complex, but in my opinion, if you want to make it good, you have to think about it a bit deeper than just saying yandere is all the personality there is to them.

Ahh, the isekai.  Classic.  Have to admit, been having a lot of daydreams about a similar scenario lately.  The Pokemon world seems so much better than ours, at times… Most of the time…

The being said, I found your ask a bit vague.  Wasn’t sure if you wanted a polyamorous relationship with the three characters, or three separate HCs.  I did three separate HCs for each character.  This one was a little hard for me, for some reason… It was fun, though.

One moment, you were falling asleep.  The next, you woke up on a beach, somewhere you didn’t recognize.  But then, everything seemed familiar.  And then, you saw it: a Pokemon!  Specifically, a Pyukumuku that washed up on the beach.  You threw it back into the ocean.

You figured you were just in the most vivid dream you had ever had.

After a while of wandering, you found a police station. The officers introduced you to Nanu after you explained the situation, who while skeptical of you, bought in the international police.  Over the next few weeks, you were questioned and tested, and it was determined that based on the energy emanating off of you, an Ultra Beast had abducted you. Now, how on Earth (or Poke Earth, in this case) this Ultra Beast took you from such a completely different world, was unknown.  It was also highly unusual that you retained your memories, but you were thankful for that. You’ve now realized that this isn’t a dream, and were a bit overwhelmed.

Luckily, the police gave you a lot of support, and you were able to rebuild your life in the new world.

 You eventually moved to Galar, where you met your S/O. It took a while for you to open up to him about your past; it’s kinda hard to admit you were abducted by alien Pokemon and transported to another world, after all.

You were EXTREMELY reluctant to tell them about the games.  Some of the characters themselves appear in the games.  How would that affect them, and how they see their world?  You weren’t sure if it was wise

Raihan

Reacted surprisingly well to the information, once he heard everything.  Thought it was amazing, and frequently asked fairly random questions about your world. Basically, he would be in the middle of something, and then just pop up with a question.

 So dragons don’t exist?  But there’s myths and legends… So did they used to exist?  He’s convinced your world used to have dragons, and there’s nothing you can do to change his mind.

There’s no Pokemon either?  Then.. what does everyone do?  He has no idea what he would do without Pokemon; he’d be bored as heck. (me too)

You can’t teleport?  Can’t fly on Pokemon?  How do you get around? (You tell him vehicles, and he has a hard time imagining so many cars and planes in the world)

Since he takes everything so well, you tell Raihan about the games.

He’s surprised, but that’s awesome.  At least you have Pokemon, in a way!

Wait… He’s in the game?

Finds that even more awesome, and asks a million questions about his game-self.  Is he hard to fight?  What does he say?  Does he look good? (yes)

 When you tell him the fandom adores him, he’s beyond thrilled.  He’s loved in two worlds!

Milo

Shocked, but not in the way you expected.  He had heard of alien abductions before.  But don’t they normally only take Pokemon from fields?  Stories of Pokemon from herds disappearing were not uncommon in this part of Galar…

Mainly interested in the animals of your world. No Pokemon?!  That was almost harder for him to believe than you actually coming from another world!

You had your old phone on you when you were abducted, and with a little help from someone you met through interpol, they figured out a way to take the pictures off of that phone. You showed Milo pictures of some of your pets, and he instantly fell in love.  They were adorable!

He was a bit sad though, as you knew you would never see them again, and you probably missed them…

If you ever suffered from homesickness, would do everything he could to try to ease that pain. He knew there wasn’t much he could do beyond be there for you, but he still tried his best.

 For some reason, some species of plants occurred on both worlds.  Whenever you mentioned this about a specific plant, you would find a small potted version of it inside, or a new patch of them planted in the garden you shared.

After a bit of time, you told him about the games.  He doesn’t really play video games, but he thought that was kinda neat!  But… How do people in the other world know about him?  Does that mean some of the people in video games in the PokeWorld exist in your world?

This made him a little more interested in video games.  This became a new hobby for the two of you to share together, after he came home from the gym or the fields.

Leon

Thinks this is an elaborate prank, at first.  I mean, how many people do you know claim to have been abducted by aliens and that they came from another world?  Exactly.

A lot of people think he’s oblivious.  And maybe at times, he is.  But he’s not stupid.

But then you kept giving him more and more detailed information. You showed him the pictures on your phone; none of which looked like anything from his world…

But maybe you were just an amazing story teller!  With photo editing skills…?

Eventually, you gave in and told him about the games.  Started believing you when you gave him details you couldn’t possibly know. You started dating him after he had lost his champion title; yet you knew all about the events of the current champion’s gym challenge, even things that were not publicly known.  You also knew what his bedroom looks like.  Despite never having been in it.

The game thing makes him a bit uncomfortable; he’s not sure how to feel about it, knowing he exists as a fictional character in another world.  He eventually just accepts it.

So, eventually, he believes you.  And once this happens, he supports you 100 percent. He will always listen to stories about the other world, even the duller ones.  While you think your world wasn’t that interesting, Leon disagrees.

it's always interesting to poke through my old fics as compared to my newer works and see the places I've improved and the ways I've simply changed and the things that have remained consistent

(I'd put this behind a read more bc it got longer than expected, except I can't do so from mobile. so feel free to scroll past as you get bored! it's just a lot of self-indulgent musing.)

I've always enjoyed writing dialogue and developing character voices, for example; that's definitely stuck around, and in some ways has inherently shaped the way I write on the whole-- my plots are usually a chain reaction of character moments, as opposed to having their own sense of dynamism/urgency. I have, however, gotten better at actually developing CHARACTERS and giving them more depth and nuance. (there's still a lot of room for improvement here, I think, but I'm really proud of how far I've come. I mean, I'm still 90% motivated by just "wouldn't it be funny if--", but I'm better at the more serious stuff these days, too 😂)

I've gotten better at the prose that comes between the dialogue, too, which is something that I've been working on basically since I was old enough to be at all critical of my own work. I'm so, so much better at action, I'm better at internal narration, and I'm better at set dressing and exposition. time was I basically Could Not write a scene without at least two characters in it because I couldn't write convincing narration and internal dialogue, but it's not entirely uncommon in my work, now, for the main character to spend time alone in some kind of contemplation. my scenes are still usually Fairly Austere in terms of description, noth of the environment and the characters, but I can usually manage to sneak some basic window dressing without too much effort these days. I had an english teacher in high school tell me that conversations are more interesting when they aren't the only thing happening in a scene, and that's really stuck with me in terms of the way I write action/dialogue

I've also always struggled with transitions; the answer to "how do I get the characters from point A to point B...?" was usually a jumpcut, in my earlier works. I've definitely gotten better at this! it's funny though, that this has all caused its own issues-- my emphasis on action and dialogue still mean that I have a hard time kind of... zooming out, I guess? in terms of transitions, I still find it difficult to time skip and gloss over events; I'm not much of one for a "They said their goodbyes" kind of sentence. We're gonna get down and dirty and talk through it-- who said what and why and when, and how they were collecting their jackets from the hall closet as they did so, or whatever, but at least I know to connect that thought to the next, now. basically, I've gotten better at being able to write my way through from that goodbye sequence to the scene where character B gets philosophical in the car afterwards, but I'm no better at smoothly fast forwarding to the next thing I want to say than I ever was. this can make for some seriously lengthy chunks of words between full scene breaks, and a lot of potentially unnecessary filler-- I usually like the filler, of course; it's often the kind of fun character work I so deeply enjoy writing, but rereading it I often get that "kill your darlings" instinct. I ignore it nine times out of ten because I write fanfiction and fuck it, I don't have an editor; the only standards that matter are my own! but also because, well, I don't know how else I would write that scene change!

the number one thing I still struggle with is plot. I'm bad at developing them, and I've never written out an outline in my life; I'll have a vague sense of where I'm starting and where I need to end up, with probably a couple better defined moments I know I want to hit, and then I'll just sort of daydream a few scenes out from whatever I'm currently writing until I hit the next big milestone (all of which makes it wildly difficult to pick back up an WIPs I step away from for any length of time, because I'll have an even vaguer sense of what I wanted to do than I did originally). I never want to put the scenes I already know about in writing before I get to them, because I have a super iterative writing process (dialogue and general form/action first, up to a nebulous point in a scene; then I'll fill in and expand the narrative prose until I reach where I ended before and continue from there, but then I'll also less frequently go back to previous scenes to read/edit those before I continue back from the current final scene) and it makes it difficult to fill in gaps (or maybe it just seems that way because it disrupts my habitual flow...? something to consider). I have a hard time giving anyone but my main character a subplot/arc, too; maybe it's because I hold so tightly to a single POV? it's difficult to develop another character's growth and change from the outside, except in an allusory sort of way. maybe part of that's because I tend to stay so zoomed in, too; even in 30 or 40 thousand words, I've probably only covered a couple of days within fiction, and people rarely change especially radically in 48 hours.

none of this has a point necessarily; there are just ways I've been working to improve my writing for like seven or eight years that it seems like I've achieved, and other things that I've encountered new problems with achieving. I'm proud of my writing in general; I enjoy rereading even my older works, where a lot of these flaws I'm talking about are so much more obvious, and in the last couple years I've completed a few projects that I'm incredibly proud of-- I've also got a bunch of WIPs that may never be finished or see the light of day, but that I enjoy reading myself and that I learned massive amounts in the process of writing.

I love writing, and I love challenging myself and trying new things in the process, and it's nice to look at my overall body of work and recognize that I have in fact been growing and improving

How old is your oldest friendship? Or your strongest friendship? I have known my bestest friend in the universe for 3 years

If you could trade places with any character in any media, Who would it be and why? I would trade places with Connie from Steven Universe. I love the world and to be a part of it but removed enough so I would not get killed instantly. 

What’s your favourite characteristic of your favourite person? Best friend (as mentioned in question one) Is a legit ball of sunshine which is more impressive since she has many mental issues. She always makes me feel so much better even if I wasn’t feeling down.

If you could witness any historical event which would you choose? For context, when I was in middle school, my family went to Israel. I’ve seen many locations from the bible. I would love to witness the LAst Supper. To see the kindness that Jesus was known for as well as how human he was. 

If you could bring any fictional character to the real world for a week who would you want to spend the week with? Muriel from the Arcana game. He has so much self-hatred and I would love to show him how many people would not only forgive him for his gladiator days but how many love and respect his quiet nature. I would also love to help him find the people that he could take refuge in.

Would you rather live in a futuristic Sci-Fi world or a magical fantasy world? Fantasy. With how our technology advances, the Sci-Fi world is a realistic future. Magic is timeless as well as unachievable in this world. 

Alternatively, if you could step into any fictional world for a week, who would you want to show you the sights? Tony Stark showing me their known universe. I have the utmost respect for him and he seems the most connected to show me EVERYTHING.

You find a genie’s lamp, what’s your 3 wishes? (No wishing for more wishes!) I wish for a mood ring that lets me regulate my mood/ the mood of those around me. I wish to never worry about money again. I wish for more genie lamps.

If you planned a perfect day what would it look like; what would you be doing? I feel like I’ve already had my perfect day. I woke up next to my sweetheart and we went to see a movie. We got back and hung out on the couch. I’d only change the whole dying and losing my job that happened at the time!

What do you find yourself daydreaming about most often? I frequently daydream about how the Grim Reaper would do their job and demons. Things like that.

This can't be happening. You knew you were bound to meet him when you returned to Madrid, but you never imagined in a million years that you'd run into him in the club the both of you used to party frequently together, and needless to say, on the very first night back to your hometown. You had been trying to suppress the thoughts of him ever since you entered the club. Despite the club looking completely different as compared to when you were last here, the atmosphere it had with the blasting of hip-hop and r&b music, the high that you were feeling, the view of hips swaying, strangers making out with strangers, and everyone else dancing their night away, it was all too familiar. Four years ago, you were here, dancing your night away with the love of your life, hoping that the night would never end as you swayed your hips against his, loving every moment you spent with him. Crazy how four years went by, and everything's changed, here you were trying to run away from the very guy you once thought was the love of your life. You could still hear him calling and running after you, but you just weren't ready to face him. After so many years, you never expected to meet him in such a manner, you were expecting to bump to him in the streets, or in a mall, where you could just look away and walk off. However, it seemed like someone was playing a joke on you, forcing you to have a conversation with someone you've been trying so hard to forget over the past four years. You quickly run to the dance floor that was packed full of people, squeezing your way through the swarm of drunkards that were dancing like there was no tomorrow. You couldn't hear him anymore with the loud music that was almost ear-deafening, and you thought that you were safe enough for him not to find you, so you turned around to make your way to your friends.

"Bella, where have you been? you've been gone for almost an hour." Miguel rushes to examine you, worried that something might have happened. "I was resting in the loo, and... well, i bumped into him." you replied cautiously as you knew they had been trying to resist mentioning him the entire night. You had noticed how your friends stopped talking as soon as they were about to mention him, but changed the topic because they were trying to be considerate of your feelings. " you met arón! ...oh, so did you guys talk?" your friends questioned, after all, they were friends with him. All of you, together with his group of friends, used to hangout frequently together. You knew some of them were still close friends with him, but the fact they were your close friends first, before meeting Arón, is the very reason why they are still here after the breakup. You shooked your head and sighed, "i'm not here to deal with whatever i left in the past. it's unnecessary." the group stays silent because you clearly weren't in the mood, and then Miguel says, " alright now you freaks, we're here to party, so let's cheers to Bella being back!!" All of us smile and laugh, realising that he was right, and we cheers our glasses together, yelling, "WELCOME BACK BELLA!!!!!"

The night continued until it was 4 in the morning, and damn, half of your group were drop dead wasted, and you were barely sober when you guys all made your way out of the club. They were going to send the drunk ones home first, and they forced you to go home first since you had a long flight and a very long night as well, so there you were alone outside the club, in your coat, waiting for your cab home. Lighting your cigarette, you take a puff, and felt the heaviness that was weighing your heart down lifted. You had been smoking for the past four years, as a coping mechanism to deal with all the sudden changes in your life over the few years. You smiled to yourself as you had enjoyed the company of your friends that you hadn't met all this while, and that smile dropped when you see someone suddenly yanking your cigarette away, dropping it on the floor, standing in front of you. "We need to talk."

You look up to see Arón staring down at you, and it sent shivers down your spine, because those hazel orbs that you were looking at used to be your major weakness. "i have nothing to say to you," before you look away to turn around and walk away from him. However, with a sudden grab on your left wrist and a strong pull, you were struggling to keep up with a fuming Arón taking you to an alley near the club. "what the hell do you want from me?" you yelled at Arón as he finally stops pulling you into the alley. You touch and look at your wrist, only to see how red it is, and you knew it was definitely going to turn into a bruise. Seething with anger, you looked up, ready to curse and swear at Arón, and you stopped when your eyes meets his equally fiery eyes that softens when he asks you, "so you smoke now?" Seriously, did this guy just drag you here just for this. "i don't have the energy for this. my ride is coming." you turn to walk away once again, and again, he grabs your arm to pull you back to face him. "when did you come back?" he asks you another question. You knew he wasn't going to let you leave until you answered his questions, so you replied him stoically, "yes. and this morning." you tilt your head up to take a look at him and you swear, you saw his eyes glistening, and for that split second, he seemed sad. "it's nice meeting you again. you look.." arón's eyes wander from your body to your face and smirks, "beautiful." Hearing his compliment didn't leave you feeling surprised or happy, instead you were rather indifferent, replying "i wish i could say the same. just a word of advice, lock the door next time. my ride's here so goodnight arón." before turning away to catch your cab. As you walked away, Arón continues to stare at you until you got into your cab, and he whispers, "i miss you."

You laid back in the cab, groaning at the encounter you just had with your ex. Saying you were uncomfortable was an understatement. The night was great, but running into your ex with a girl on him and furthermore, having to be alone with him in a desolate alley was the last thing you could have ever imagined how your night would have panned out. As your thoughts started to wander around the thought of that awkward encounter, you found yourself daydreaming about how good he looked in that blue striped shirt, with his luscious curls that you once loved twirling so much. "señora, hemos llegado," your driver informs you that you've arrived at your apartment, snapping you out of the thoughts you were having of Arón. fortunately. You returned home, quickly washing up and got into bed because you were exhausted from all the travelling and partying, and you knock out at the drop of a dime.

the next few days, you stay home to unpack your luggages and arrange the furnitures to make your apartment more homely and cozy. it was nice having some time off to recuperate because you've been working consecutively for multiple productions back in the States, and you had barely any breather. thus, the time you had before starting the new netflix production was a great chance for you to relax and focus on your well-being. however, rest was over. it was finally the day for you to meet the cast of the new netflix production as you were heading down to the studio to do the first reading of the scripts with them. you had already met the crew prior to moving to madrid, as they flew out to LA to discuss on the script and some technical parts with you. you were ready for a new chapter in your life, to direct a series that was in your native language. it was exciting for you. you made your way down to the studio with a ferrari f430, that you had bought a few days ago so that you didn't have to constantly rely on cabs as a mode of transportation. you arrive at the studio shortly after, smiling, ready to welcome the cast into the family. "chicas y chicos, meet the directors whom you'll be working with closely." your smile falls, oh god, this can't be happening.

Romance MD: Always on Call Munechika Takado Review (if you can really call it that)

Honestly I wasn’t expecting to write a review on this, because; 1. I wasn’t the slightest bit interested in the newest release. 2. And secondly…well I don’t write reviews.

But I haven’t seen that much noise about this title yet; whether that’s due to the lack of interest, the lengthy time it takes to read this whole story, the frustrating amount of hearts (A.K.A your hard earned dollar) you have to spend to achieve a SHE, or perhaps all of the above.

When I saw advertisements for Love 365’s latest release, I honestly didn’t give a damn. Oh joy, another Love Choice title (which by the way everyone asked for…not), the same old character types (I felt like Voltage should’ve changed their name to ‘Oresama’s R Us’) and I didn’t take a liking to any of the character’s physical looks either (except Kasumi, what a babe.)

So when Romance MD was finally released I wasn’t rushing to read it. Lately I’ve been more preoccupied reading another otome (Mr Love Queen’s Choice, if anyone is interested) rather than any releases on Love 365 as it just isn’t giving me that enticing story that I’d throw away life’s commitments in an instant to read. After reading Takado’s story, I only wish that I’d stop judging a book by it’s cover (although I know I definitely won’t).

I found myself reading through the story mostly because it was free (we already know the debate on that one, in the end I think I spent £14) and because I was bored. However, it wasn’t long before I found myself being sucked into the story and just thoroughly enjoying the interactions between the characters.

The MC

I could describe the MC as a breath of fresh air, I could describe her as a complete car crash but I feel as though a more accurate description is Marmite. For those of you who don’t know (probably anyone outside of the UK), Marmite is a food spread that people have on toast/sandwiches etc. The debate is that there are thousands of people who love Marmite more than their firstborn child but on the other hand there’s equally as many people who think Marmite is the work of Satan himself, and would find their dog’s faeces more appetising. So I can’t help but feel like you’ll love her for being new, exciting and different…or you’ll hate her because she’s extremely arrogant, a know-it-all and just plain annoying.

Reasons to love the MC:

She’s clever, like really clever. I have no idea what half those words mean that come out of her mouth but this girl knows her shit.                              

She’s determined and persistent. I mean, I guess all MC’s are when I think about it but it’s generally a good trait to have. The MC doesn’t let Takado out of her sight for a second, even using her skills of being on the track team in highschool to sprint after him when he tries to run away which is highly hilarious. Although can you imagine an MC who isn’t persistent? We’d have no story. Kind of funny thinking about that actually, an MC who just says “Right! I’ve had enough of you abusing me, I’m off home to eat ice cream and watch Netflix. You continue cutting people’s legs off willy nilly like they can grow back.”

She’s relatable. I can’t stress this one enough. Yeah maybe not the medical textbook mumbo jumbo but the social awkwardness and the constant daydreams of Sekai (her otome boyfriend) is something many of us can understand.

She’s not a sheep. This girl has a mind of her own. I take my hat off to her for going up against her superior’s when she thinks something is wrong, I don’t have that kind of backbone.

Reasons to hate the MC:

She can be plain rude. Like I can praise the girl for sticking up for herself but sometimes she’s a little too tart-tongued for my liking. I did cringe a bit, wishing she’d dial things back from time to time.

Missing some classic MC traits, comes across as arrogant. I mean, I guess this one is personal preference. I do like the more outgoing MC who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, but surely it’s natural to not be so arrogant in front of doctors who have years of experience on you? Like the MC is 26, I’m pretty sure all of the guys are 30+ (pretty sure Takado is 35) and have been doctors for a longer time than the MC has even been training to be a doctor. I did find myself missing the humble, kind hearted MC a bit. You really don’t have to be arrogant to be a strong willed woman, my favourite MC is the MC from Our Private Homeroom, I felt like she had a good mix of all the traits.

Can be annoying. Like there’s a time and place to be talking about the topic you’re currently spouting on about MC, and now definitely isn’t the correct time/place.

Takado

Takado himself is not necessarily anything we haven’t seen before. He’s not hiding anything you probably haven’t already guessed. Him and the MC have frequent domestics (which 9 times out of 10 end in her being hit over the head with a file) in places they should definitely not be having domestics, which in itself provides a series of highly entertaining scenes, for not only us but also the rest of the ICU doctors. He doesn’t baby the MC, he tells her when she’s done messed up but does also show signs of kindness behind his stoney façade, especially more towards the end of the story. I also appreciated that his backstory was more than meets the eye, there’s nothing I find more boring than a predictable plot line. Generally, I found him likeable. In fact, more often than not I felt sorry for him for having to put up with the absolute garbage that drops out of the MC’s mouth. I dunno how the hell he ended up falling in love with her too, I’d run a mile if that was me. But then again I did pay £14 for him, so if he didn’t I’d be god damn pissed.

He is equally (actually even more so) as intelligent as the MC, without bragging about how much he knows which was rather refreshing. I mean he does call the MC a thousand different variants of the word stupid, but every single time was justified in my eyes.

Although one thing I must say...

God damn son.

Stuff to Note

One thing I need to comment is holy smokes, how long is this story? When I saw the looming 30 chapters I figured that they were probably going to be over faster than my money leaves my account on payday, but boy how wrong I was. Now this almost certainly is a money grab in order to get you to spend more hearts to get the “good choices” but despite that, I was really impressed with just how long the story took me to read. Maybe I’m just getting old, but usually on any main story I can bash it out in under 2 hours. With this, I actually had to stop myself from reading and go the hell to sleep because it was 4 in the morning. When I checked the next day to what chapter I was on, I thought I was tripping when I realised I’d only just made it halfway through the story. Voltage kudos to you. The story was the perfect length to have good plot pacing, decent character development and satisfying romance at the end.

Now granted if you’re looking for a lovey-dovey romance throughout the whole story this isn’t the route for you. The romance doesn’t really kick start until at least 3/4 of the way through this route, and even then it’s nothing that exciting. The MC struggles to understand what love even is herself, having her only boyfriends being fictional otome men (the relatability is real), she finds herself unable to register what those feelings are. It’s not until a playful bullying from the other ICU doctors and a dictionary search that she realises she’s in love.

But in general, I found Takado’s route an enjoyable read with well placed comedic timing and good focus on the the more serious side of things when it was important. So if you find yourself bored like me, maybe just give it a read. Just don’t come at me with torches and pitchforks when you’re $15 poorer.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Character Development. I feel like both the MC and Takado showed character development. The MC when she finally figured out she has to stop being so damn arrogant and realise the consequences of when she opens her mouth. And Takado, that he can’t just tell people they’re having their leg cut off and just walk off.

Length. Need I say more.

Good pacing. Story progresses, MC progresses, Romance progresses. Good job guys.

Well written. Actually laughed out loud a fair few times whilst reading this story, which I definitely wasn’t expecting. Also whoever came up with the idea of the character sprites holding up a board for comic effect is a god damn genius.

Good group dynamics. I mean it’s not KBTBB, but I enjoyed reading the interactions between all the ICU doctors. Hopefully with more releases we’ll be able to see more of their relationship with each other.

Cons

Love Choice. I mean you can read this story completely free…just you won’t know any of the back story, you won’t get any of the romantic moments and you’ll get the shit ending. But if you’re happy spending $15 for a main story then this is a pro I suppose.

Lacking in romance. Now I’m not saying there isn’t any, I personally don’t have an issue with how things progressed (I much prefer the romance to come in following stories like epilogues and sequels) but I have a feeling if you’re after something with a lot of romance running throughout it, this story won’t be for you.

Too many legs were harmed in the making of this route. People be getting their legs cut off more times than I’ve had hot dinners. Everyone thinks Takado goes around cutting people’s legs off for fun…and honestly you can’t blame them for thinking that.

Not many CGs. Remember the days when we had 6 CGs for a main story? I know I’m being picky but having 1 CG in episode 1 and the last CG in the SHE, that only leaves 2 other CGs for 28 episodes. If you’re gonna have a main story that long, surely you can spare another CG or two Voltage?

One of my favorite fandom things is to see the protagonists of other stories as the background characters in fanfic for a completely different story. An example would be, say, the Inuyasha cast as the background ninja manning a border outpost. Not as protagonists in their own rights, but as obviously enough themselves that you can fill out their stories, lol. Do you have any characters you think would be great for that? Even OCs! And how would you need to adapt them to not be protagonists?

I also enjoy that trope! I don’t see it as often as I like? Or, well, I don’t see it often as more than just “I needed five names and I might as well use these names” as opposed to a more integrated “these five characters would work well in this universe, here’s a little easter egg for my readers”

I do something similar in Naruto/DoS fic… maybe not “protagonists” of other stories but definitely would-have-been secondary characters in other stories are still around.

For example, the teammates of my other Naruto fic. In Counterpoise it’s Ringo Nohara and Zakuro Yuuhi who graduated two years before the Rookie Nine and then in Externality it’s Komadori Ouba who graduated the same year as Team Gai. And then, I guess, arguably Kiyoshi Utsugi who is the main character in (In)Difference and possibly Kakashi’s mom?

All three of them are alternate universes but the first two–Counterpoise and Externality, that is–are alternate universes in a different way from (In)Difference. Because Counterpoise and Externality are “what if X character existed and were relevant to Naruto/Naruto’s story” ie Konran, Naruto’s twin sister or Tetsuki who helps Naruto graduate a year early and thus becomes his genin teammate. 

Whereas (In)Difference is an AU of “what if Kakashi’s mom was an SI!OC/had knowledge of canon” even though, when I was first building her I didn’t make her with being Kakashi’s mom in mind. I made her to be a kunoichi of an age with the Sannin and then had to figure out what would make a good teammate for Dan Katou (aka Tsunade’s boyfriend) and That One Guy who was on the same mission as when Dan died and who ACTUALLY HAD A NAME? aka Kunugi Mokume. So, like… with those two in mind, who would make a good teammate abilities-wise and then… it just kind of… grew into well, I guess she’s Kakashi’s mom.

I’m getting off track. So… even through (In)Difference is an AU, Kakashi obviously still exists so his mom must still exist so I just generally use “Kiyoshi Utsugi” as his mom whether or not it’s the (In)Difference version who has canon knowledge or not. But in Counterpoise and Externality, that’s the only instance in which Konran Uzumaki and Tetsuki Kaiza exist [in the Naruto world]. But their would-have-been-teammates still exist without them, so I use them pretty frequently as like. “Oh, I need a character who’s approximately this age and would be in the RnD department. Let’s use Komadori” Or “Hey, this person is going to the hospital but it’s not a major injury so they’d have a baby medic look at it, here’s Ringo.”

I actually designed Ringo and Zakuro to be the “those two guys” for the Konoha Twelve? Like, not part of the group, obviously, but a background sort of… like Izumo and Kotetsu?

So, I guess, the how do I do it for these characters is more of a… well… I took away their genin teammate so they didn’t pass their assigned jounin-sensei’s test so they went into Genin Corps/Medic Corps/had an apprenticeship or whatever… which I guess is kind of bleak.

Um…

I also had a fairly recent almost-use of this concept. In more of a fleeting daydream-y than a full brainstorm-y way and it had more to do with a reaction to a BnHA fanfic I read that then spun wildly out of control…

Strikes But Does Not Roar

Izuku never gets One For All. He doesn’t go to UA. He doesn’t become a Hero.

But heroism isn’t just for the professionals. Neither is happiness or Family.

It’s a vigilante!Izuku, basically. But, specifically, a KHR!vigilante!Izuku.

I’m talking a reverse Tetsuki Kaiza ‘verse!

Just kidding, knowledge of Tetsuki Kaiza is not needed (ALTHOUGH)

The idea actually came to me as a weird knee-jerk response to bakudeku fic Just Like The Comics by brichibi which I do recommend if you A) like bakudeku fic, B) like AUs, and C) like screaming at your screen when fictional characters are having mutual pining romantic drama but also legitimate relationship issues and not just RomCom-esque misunderstandings 

It’s a very complex set of feelings.

And without getting too much into spoiler territory, there was a lot of discussion of Achieving Your Dream versus Being Happy and because I still have conflicting feelings about the bakudeku ship, part of me was like… okay, but what if an AU of this fic in which Izuku decided, well, just because I can’t be a hero doesn’t mean I can’t help people still in the most dangerous way possible.

And then I also thought, a little bit, how… not funny… but a greater slap in the face to Bakugou if Izuku started dating someone who, on the surface, was very much like him but on the surface a worse version. Like, on paper that is. Because Bakugou is probably very handsome, if he weren’t always so >:(, and very smart and successful and devoted to being a hero. Great, fantastic, Bakugou will probably achieve his dream of being the number one hero with or without Izuku.

But will he be happy?

Versus, Izuku in this AU will never achieve his dream. Has, actually, given up on his dream or, at least, the original version of his dream. But he can still help people. And if he happens to find happiness with a loud, pale-haired, bright eyed, muscular vigilante whose punches can kind of explode things then… well… Ryohei Sasagawa is not the smartest of dudes, but he is a good sunshine boy who I and Tetsuki love very much.

So this AU takes the brichibi’s theme of Achieving Your Dream vs Being Happy and twists it into an unhappy ending (for Bakugou, at least) because instead of both of them getting both, each of them only get one.

Well, that’s the origin of the AU, but it kinda took a life of its own when I decided to use KHR characters and this is where this weird fake fic summary finally becomes relevant to your ask, lionheadbookends, because it wasn’t just the idea of Ryohei vaguely looking like Bakugou and rubbing salt in a broken up bakudeku’s wound. It also wasn’t even the fact that IZUKU IS COVERED IN GREEN LIGHTNING WHENEVER HE USES OFA. It also also wasn’t even the whole “Vongola started off as a vigilante group” thing, though all of these did help, of course.

But the cold, brutal thought that in this world of quirks–where Izuku’s misery comes from being quirkless–that another boy who had been so bullied and ridiculed and given a cruel nickname would also be quirkless… and still, eventually, find happiness despite it. That’s right, I’m talking about Dame-Tsuna.

And, okay, I suppose I have to decided whether or not Dying Will Flames exist. I do know they are independent of quirks if they do exist. And while I would love to stick with the theme of “you don’t need powers to be a hero” I have no idea how Tsuna’s Guardians would have formed around him (specifically, Gokudera, Mukuro, and Lambo… although as an Actual Child, he will not be holding the Guardian title… if they even do still structure themselves that way)

Anyway, Tsuna is quirkless as well and all of his “Guardians” have weak quirks or quirks that aren’t applicable to being a hero but they still go out and be vigilantes anyway. Like, for example, Ryohei probably has a minor healing quirk. He did not want to be a doctor. But he likes helping people, even if its not through his quirk, and he wasn’t going to not help people just because his quirk didn’t match up to his methods. (Kyoko also has a minor healing quirk, and while she did go into the medical field she decided to be a NEUROSURGEON where her quirk isn’t exactly useless but doesn’t really apply during the main part of CUTTING PEOPLE’S BRAINS).

And Izuku probably falls into this group because he, I dunno, decides to take some self defense classes finally and Ryohei’s either the teacher or an assistant or something and that’s their meet cute but really it’s the introduction to Izuku being like… the friendly boy who I maybe like has way more bruises on his face than class sparring explains? WTF? He’s going out at night and fighting crime illegally with a bunch of his friends? (With or without Dying Will Flames) and then Izuku is just like… I WANT IN.

Anyway, because this is from Izuku’s POV, it does make the KHR squad into the non-protagonists. Not necessarily “background” characters, but secondary characters for sure. Although if we focus on the unrequited bakudeku aspect of it, then the vigilantism does become the “background” for the “childhood friends and former high school sweethearts dichotomy drama of Achieving Your Dream vs Being Happy…”

Tetsuki might exist here but definitely as a background character. She does a lot of undercover stuff as in canon for Trailblazers

ok so. welcome to the rabbit hole that is my music taste and what is my no.1 most frequently done activity.. plastering emotions i have for fictional characters all over my music taste. I restricted myself to ¾ songs for each character & then to Edie, Hubert, Dorothea, Lysithea & Byleth because otherwise we’d be here all day (and those are the Primary Daydream Candidates rn)

Edelgard:Everybody wants to rule the word - tears for fears. (ucan go with Lorde’s cover but i prefer the original bc im like that.) i meanit’s pretty heavy handed but it’s such an Edelgard song it !!!! fuels my ficwriting. if it’s not so very Edelgard’s relationship with twsitd then idk whatto tell you. plus it’s an iconic song

Medicine - daughter. (daughter is My Favourite Band. Ever. I cannot articulate how much ilove their (and ex:re’s) music!!) anway. this is a hegegard song & i don’ttake constructive criticism. I’ll reiterate this better in other descriptions,but please don’t take my inclusion of a song about such a topic as adevaluation of it in any way, that’s not my intention. The reason I go so feralfor Hegegard is because im no stranger to watching someone you care about hurt themselvesin a way you can’t stop, and that’s what the AM ending evokes in me. Hence: asong I love that one can read the same story in. And then the lyrics ‘You couldstill be / What you want to / What you said you were / When I met you” just !! parallelsEdge of Dawn’s lyrics about regret & overall I’m very feral about this.

(Don’t Fear) The Reaper - blue oystercult. this is PRIME Edelgard telling freshly-awokenbyleth she’s been waging war for 5 years. also !!!! “Seasonsdon’t fear the reaper / Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be likethey are” >>> “The Edge of Dawn (Seasons ofWarfare) (フレスベルグの少女～風花雪月～,lit. Girl of Hresvelg ~Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon~)” .. the link is tenuous but coincidence?? is it, fuck.

Seneca - Novo Amor. this is another one of those songs that could mean something different to everyone. very easy to project onto, is novo amor. I like the story of being prepared to run and break ties at any given moment, but ending up - emotionally or physically - in the same place one always was. apart from the glaring tie of how Edelgard returned to garreg mach, this song is a lot of me trying to repatriate Edelgard’s lack of emotional arc in the game by saying . well. this song. 

You can call me Al -  paul simon. am i projecting edeleth thoughts onto my favourite song? it’s morelikely than you think!!! but also i like the chorus and all the exasperating ‘call me el’jokes i can make.. i may be half writing a fic based on this song.

Dorothea:Agnes - glass animals. so i have significant emotions about edelthea at the best of times !! and this song !!! really bloody hits it home !! yes I knowit’s got a really heavy and real subject matter and I’m not trying to devalueit or minimise it.. but the story - about watching someone close to you hurtthemselves/get hurt, and doing so in ways you can’t stop them from - is adamn real one. And a Lot of why I love Dorothea’s character in the gamebecause she’s the one who can’t stop her friends from getting hurt – through exposureto warfare .. or  stopping Edelgard becomingthe monster at the end of the story. Even though she’s one of the healers onthe beagle’s team. And I feel that.

Ex’s and Oh’s – Elle King. So you know that one spn fanvid featuringthis song about all of dean winchester’s relationships? That, but for my flirting Queen Dorothea Arnault. (and I have the dumbest most fun little headcanon thatonce Dorothea and Sylvain derailed a lgbt+ society meeting whilst Edie wastrying to go over the budget by blasting this song and dancing on the table.The idea makes me laugh)

Hold My Girl – George Ezra. The whole thing about wanting just that onemoment to cherish the people you love for one moment more before you have goout face the world? If that’s not the timeskip’d Dorothea Arnault Aesthetic, Idon’t know what is.

(Call Me Out – sea girls. On a much lighter note, this song is fueling the later half of mydrafts of road trip au. And it’s literally because of that one verse. im gayshut up.)

Hubert:Red Right Hand – nick cave and the bad seeds. Is it on the nose? Is itheavy handed? Oh u fuckin bet but that won’t stop me!!! A) it’s a good song. ItIs. B) I like narrative songs. C) Any ‘red right hand’ symbolism in Anycharacter has me love them immediately and also plonk this song in the middleof any playlist about them. sure, the artic monkeys version might be a bit more on hubert’s brand.. but my mileage varies about it lmao

I had fortress by bear’s den earmarked for Hubie, as I think it’s easilyread about boundaries and a one sided intense relationship & that’s! Hubiebaybee! But I can’t possibly cover unhealthy relationships without shoving thealbum Hospice by The Antlers into every which way of it. It’s by no meansdirectly translatable to Edelgard and hubert’s relationship and it’s arguable ifI should even mention it in the same sentence as a bloody fictional character… that beingsaid, I’ve been having emotions about:Shiva – the antlers. This song specifically reads to me to be a really goodarticulation of my own thoughts about Hubert’s perspective of Edie getting experimentedon. heavy but damn. I like that. I just see a lot of what their teen years togethermust have been like in Shiva.

Time – Pink Floyd. Ok so.. it’s like Hubert in parallel bc I think thissong is a lot about searching for a purpose/reason or a quote unquote bloodyred path in life. And I may have been listening to it when I watched Hubert/DorotheaA support & now it’s just permanently associated with it bc it complementedit so well. And I like it. So . it stays. It’s very much a beagles song to meas well.

Lysithea:The Beautiful Dream – George Ezra. Ok so I read this Edelysithea ficwith this on repeat bc the title reminded me of it, and then I stuck it onrepeat because it worked too well and now.. im crying.. and i like the inflection of Lysithea’s bitterness over the titular lyric. (but also, it remains one of my steadfast edeleth songs.. sorry lys)

Secrets (Cellar Door) – Radical Face. Another Edelgard&/Lysitheasong!! I really like their relationship ok. And given the song itself can beread straight or an allegory for whatever you particularly want, but the storyis just too on the nose for me not to mention it here.(also general advocation of listening to the whole of radical face’s musicbecause I’ve loved it for years now & the work is beautiful.) (also it’swonderful for fe awakening projection. Or ur own.)

Oh Children – nick cave and the bad seeds. there’s a million different interpretations of this song, but to try nail a few onto Lysithea.. there’s the harry potter use of making/finding a light in the depths of tragedy & i love that for Lys. there’s the whole ‘the kids aren’t alright’ theme and it’s various depths. and i like narrative lyrics to plaster my large fictional-character-caused-emotions onto, so make of this one what you will.

Marianne (and Lysithea too if you like)Bad Blood – Radical Face. Ok so. This is one of my favourite songs in bloodyexistence, and it’s so loaded with meaning & it has a metric tonne of it. Icould wax lyrical about how much I love Radical Face’s work. I don’t want myinclusion of this song (specifically this one) to in any way devalue it. Butmusic is ofc incredibly subjective, and so is my reading of a lot of threehouses – in case it’s not bloody obvious by now. There’s a Lot of stories onecould take from Marianne’s character (and none of them are More Valid^tm thanany other), and I do see a very personal story in her – as I do in this song. Hgghhghive just spent 10 minutes trying to find an impersonal way to talk about twovery personal and relative stories, which naturally doesn’t work. That, and theway I read her story is Real Fucking Dicey for tumblr.com. so if this song is about accepting rejection because of parts of yourself so deep they’re in your blood, i think.. y’all can see.. where my neurodivergent gay self is going with this..

Byleth:Something to Believe In – Tom Walker. Yeah. You’re bloody welcome. If this isn’ta completely on the nose Byleth song, I’ll eat Dorothea’s hat.

Emigrate - Novo Amor. this just fucking Got Me in the ‘actively choosing crimson flower’ feelings. im an emotional wreak but its aight. the lyrics just matched up too well for me to let it go !!!

Alps - Novo Amor. this hit me in the ‘i miss the gremlin child sothis’ feelings one day and now it’s permanently stuck that way.

Make Them Gold – chvrches. (this is very much associated with awakening’sfuture past kids and also the Carmilla series in my mind But!!) I love a story about‘if we’re all falling, we’re going down together’ and the magical power of teamwork, and how it brings out the best in people.. & that’s what this song& Byleth kinda bloody stand for ya know??

What inspired you to try/create that muse/s: well , if you’ve been with me long enough then you know that tooru started out as an AU ! o.ikawa t.ooru, where instead of attending s.eijou , he went to s.hiratorizawa ! to be honest , i kind of just wanted to try my hand at writing that kind of thing ? it was the very first time i had made a tumblr rp blog , so i had no idea that people rp different verses of the same character on one blog !! i originally rp’d on deviantart , and it was very commonplace to have different blogs for different verses ... i had over 70 rp blogs on there and most of them were literally the same 2 characters but in different AUs LMAO ... so imagine my surprise when i saw people rp’ing different AUs on one blog ... RP’ing multiple muses on one blog ... !! but i kinda just stayed with my iteration instead of playing canon ! kawa anyway , since i didn’t really see the point in starting over . as tooru developed more , though , i began to use him as a venting tool because this was a part of my life where i was really depressed . but as time grew on and i eventually made him into an OC , he became a much happier character . he really is my best friend ; he’s been there for me through it all , and even though he’s just fictional , i really owe him a lot for helping me out during rough times .

What is inspiration for that muse/s: well , currently , a lot of things ... lots of music , japanese culture + religion , and also my own experiences . in general , i have a p.interest board for him , so ... maybe you could say i draw inspiration from that , too ! i also rly enjoy the band MILI . their songs really fit tooru , like ‘ bathtub mermaid ’ . i’ve also been listening to hello , again and am planning on drawing something based on it for him ( + the song’s prequel , “ goodbye ” ) . i mainly tend to daydream while listening to songs , so ... yeah . as for characters who serve as inspiration for tooru ... well , i think that’s an artist meme , so i might just fill it in in lieu of answering this properly lol ... but two i can think of off the top of my head are leon from f.ire e.mblem e.choes and n.eferpitou from h.xh ! 

Thread/AU that made you really happy: B.NHA AU ... !! i’m hyperfixating sm on that one ... idk , a lot of planning and plotting goes into it , esp since a lot of my mutuals are in the fandom . in particular , i love love love the story i’ve created with @noquirk . i literally cannot envision a more perfect plot for tooru in this verse . heck , it’s literally my main go - to timeline when i draw / write for it . tooru is , quite literally , not very much in this AU without deck .

Something really special on your wishlist: sh ... more ships ... ships to draw and animate and make animatics to ... also i need to get my butt into gear and finish my JRPG AU group lol .

Something you are looking for in short future for your muse: blease tooru help me get thru the school year ... also i have some animatics in the back burner so i’m looking forward to getting those done !

Share something related to your muse!: his canon story , in parallel motion , deals with existentialism and alternate universes . ultimately , it’s a story that serves as a physical manifestation of my own struggle with depression , and while it’s sombre in tone , i want it to tell whoever’s reading it , “ you matter . ” it’s why tooru is placed into so many marginalized groups ; he’s fat and trans and biracial and bi and suffers from bpd + depression + anxiety but he’s a good person through it all ... his story is tragic because he’s not allowed to exist and will be forgotten when he dies , but his existence impacts so many other characters’ lives ... it’s a butterfly effect kind of thing . because you exist , you’ve made so many peoples’ lives better . and i understand it’s rough and i understand depression + sucky real life aspects try to convince you otherwise , but just ... think about it . there’s an alternate universe where , because you don’t exist , something huge was probably impacted . and even on a smaller , more intimate scale --- if you hadn’t existed in another life , then one of your friends might not be here . they might not be as happy as they are now , because you make them happy . life can be awful . but it’s wonderful and beautiful , too . that’s what i want tooru to be to others . someone to look up to and relate to , and someone who tells you , “ it’s okay ! ”

What do you think about character’s design/how do you came up with this: he’s ... kinda generic LOL mainly cause he’s based off of o.ikawa looks - wise due to his origin ... but part of his looks also derivate from an old ask blog muse i had :

i just really like that bangs - over - one - eye hairstyle ngl ... also i have no idea how / when his hair became maroon - brown since o.ikawa’s hair is chestnut brown , but ... yeah . also have no idea when he gained red eyes HDKJSFS,,,, i find fangs appealing on a character though , so that’s why he has fangs and does the :3c ... honestly i think i kinda just slapped together what i like in a design and put it on him , so even though he may look like an NPC ( lol ) , he’s still appealing in my eyes .

WIP AND WRITING TAG GAME

I was tagged by @sillyliterature! Thank you so much for the tag! :D

1. Is there any scene from any piece you’ve written that actually scared you? If so, describe the scene.

I don’t really think anything I’ve written really scares me from a horror perspective. There’s been some creepy stuff that I’ve written but I’ve always been smiling when I was writing it... I guess there is one thing though. 

It was more of a thought really. An older sister just gets back home from dropping her brother off somewhere (work or a mall or something) and walks downstairs thinking the house is empty. She pauses on the stairs when she hears sounds coming from her brother’s room. She sneaks over to the door and looks in to find her brother playing videogames. He notices her and waves. She confronts him and he insists that he has been there the whole time. She calls her brother on the phone and he answers from where she dropped him off. As he talks over the phone the “brother” in front of her starts getting up with a giant, teeth baring grin.

I don’t know why, but that sends shivers up my spine.

2. What genre do you feel most awkward writing?

I just do not feel comfortable writing stuff that is supposed to take place in our ‘universe’. Like, daily life fiction. Coffee shop aus or stuff like that. I love reading that stuff but I just don’t like writing it.

3. How many different types of writing do you write? Types of writing include novels, short stories, poetry, song lyrics, etc.

I think my main type of writing is short story stuff. I like planning out novel-length works but I never get around to actually writing them. My poetry writing is few and far between. I do have some stuff, but I wouldn’t call it good.

4. How old were you when you first started writing?

I have a Warrior Cats fanfiction saved somewhere that I wrote in middle school. It is probably the longest thing I have written to date, although that may be because it was written in wide ruled notebook paper with each letter being at least a half a centimeter thick.

5. How confident are you in your writing?

When I’m by myself I am very confident in my work. I get into writing fire streaks and love every bit of it! When I’m with other people, though, I am very doubtful. I have only confidently shown my work to one person, my best friend in the entire world who is always excited to read anything I write. I’d rate my confidence a 6/10.

6. Have you ever written and posted anything that was very personal to you?

No. I keep my personal stuff very close to me. My personal stuff is for me. But, I’m always happy to post my other stuff! :D

7. What inspired you to start writing?

I would read everyday at every free moments and in the moments where I had no free time I would daydream about what could happen next. Sometimes I would be very disappointed by what actually happened in the story. Eventually I realized that if I wrote the story I would never be disappointed in what happened!

8. Which of your OCs do you relate to the most?

Deryn and Morgan. Morgan is a main character of a story that is incredibly anxious and would never talk if she didn’t have to. I poured a lot of my own mental health issues into her. Deryn is not a main character, she’s the love interest of a character (her and her wife too ;D), and she is very similar, gender-wise, to me. She doesn’t always feel entirely like a girl and honestly does not care about her own gender. She doesn’t really like labels so she hasn’t searched for one (very similar to me).

9. Have you ever written self-insert fanfiction?

Kind of? I would base characters off of me and plug them into stories to be in a relationship with the character I had a crush on but it was never just me with a different name or something.

10. What is your favorite piece you’ve ever written about?

A piece I have saved on my google drive that I keep going back to and editing. I just love it every time I reread it! :D

11. How frequently do you actually sit down and write?

Not as much recently. I want to try and write more this summer, but we’ll see if I actually end up doing it...

12. How many hours at a time do you do research on your writing?

When I research I either do a cursory glance or spend hours going deeper down the rabbit hole! :D

13. Do you like to branch out in your writing or do you tend to stick to what you know?

I try to but I always end up not enjoying myself as much as when I write my normal stuff. I’m not writing for money so I’m not going to push myself to write something I don’t enjoy.

14. What would your antagonist of your current WIP say to you if they saw you in person?

I’m not really that sure. He isn’t as fleshed out as the protagonists... He’d probably try to interrogate me about where his goal is. 

15. Do you consider yourself your OCs’ god or just kind of a guiding hand (or other? If other, please list)?

I don’t really think about myself as their god. I’ve certainly made an all powerful god but she isn’t really me. I think about myself as a guiding hand, a recorder, and a traveler of universes. ;D

16. What do you think you’d be doing with your time if you’d never gotten into writing?

Um... Videogames? I play some, but I’m very picky because of the restrictions of stories. I have a lot of hours stored in Stardew Valley though! :D

17. Have you ever written a smut piece?

No. I rarely even write kisses! (I’m a slow burn writer. :D)

18. What was the first thing you ever wrote about?

Warrior Cats. My OC was name Moonpelt! She was a total marysue, but I still love her to this day!

19. What is the most creative creature you’ve ever created for world-building?

They’re called Beings. They can be anything and have any kind of powers. They’re basically creatures that are very difficult to categorize so no one even bothers. If you don’t know what it is there’s an extreme chance that it’s a Being.

20. Tell me one random fact about your WIP that you have yet to tell your followers.

There hasn’t been a magical person born in millennia. Magic has become the stuff of legends and myths; some believe it once existed, some do not. The only “magical” things left are the towers and giants in the Wasteland. ;D

🐰 what is one secret that you’ve never told anyone?I can't think of any, but I will tell you one interesting personal medical fact about my brokeass bod: one time I was just a little bit ~dead~ for 2+ minutes (LMAO) I'm serious, I didn't have a pulse.  This was waaay back when I had nose surgery (6-7 years old) and they found out I had Von Willerbrand's Disease (a type of Hemophilia), n like I bled for hours.  

💗 if you could hug anyone, who would it be? My brother, my cousins whom I have not seen in Too Long, God, my besties, my favorite stars/singers, and Ravi Zacharias. 

🌠 if you were in charge of the world, what would the world look like? Fuggin' Solarpunk BeEEEeiATCH (but also I wouldn't want to be in charge of the world, that is way too much responsibility for one mortal.) 

👀 what was the most recent vivid dream that you had? I only remember bits of it (I haven't written it down), but I was prancing through this dry, wooded area near a fire with Tom Holland and his entire stunt team, my brother was filming it, and we were just having a chill-ass time goofing around aimlessly while these nuns in light blue & white would frequently pop out from between the trees and exchange our blood for this greenish-blue liquid.  

🐾 what are you scared of most? how will you overcome it? Right now I'm mainly concerned with becoming financially independent; I just need to get through the tasks I'm already working on.

Every member of my group of interests has failed to make me happy at one point or another; it's just a matter of finding which form of entertainment/purpose I need to satisfy atm (drawing, watching shows/movies, exploring, philosophy, piano, Tumbling, games, etc.).

1. When did youstart self shipping and why?

I mean I officiallystarted this blog I think… middle of last year? I can’t quiteremember the date off the top of my head but it’s been a while.However, I’ve been selfshipping for a very long time, justmentally! I kind of did that whole “Creating Ocs to ship withcharacters I liked and oh no those Ocs definitely aren’t based onme at all aha nope…”

2. How long have youbeen self shipping?

I think I’ve beenself shipping from a very young age! I remember being in primaryschool and being absolutely in love with Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugiand Axel from Kingdom Hearts (had a thing for red heads and fireapparently?) I genuinely must’ve been as young as 8, give or take ayear or two, so I’ve been self shipping and self inserting most ofmy life! 

3. Why do you selfship now?

I mean… it’sfun! And I mean, I fall in love with fictional characters withouteven meaning to. I just become very attached to them to the point Ican’t help but imagine myself with them! It’s also been a thingI’ve done for a very long time, a hobby, a habit, a copingmechanism – as a very creative but also very lonely child I thinkit was a huge way for me to feel like I was getting GOOD attentionfor once. I guess that’s kind of extended to adulthood. In ways aswell it helps me deal with some unhealthy situations I’ve had inthe past and it’s a way for me to explore and take interest intoxic and unhealthy ships in a safe and fictional environment. It’shelped me a lot improving with my art and honestly I officiallyjoined the self ship community because I was very lonely and had…NO FRIENDS.

4. Which of yourself insert characters is the most developed?

Probably myborderlands insert or my Newsies insert! I haven’t been toomassively focused on any other ship to develop my insert in thatuniverse very much and SOME of the universes I self insert in arequite difficult and elaborate when it comes to making characters forit (like in HxH)

5. Are your selfinsert characters 100% you or are they an exaggerated version ofyourself/leaning toward an OC?

I think it dependson the universe. Though I would say they’re exaggerated examples ofmyself, ideal versions or particularly troubled versions – All ofmy self insert characters look like me and have the same name and toa degree share my interests and talents – though I’ve also giventhem talents that I admire and really wish I had (such as singing,baking and sewing.)

6. If your selfinserts are closer to OCs what are some similarities they have withyou? What are some differences?

Lmao whoops guess Ikind of explained this in the one above? I guess something I like todo is depending on the universe I self ship in, I kind of pick a partof my personality that is a focus of that character. (For example, myNewsies insert is mostly centred around my social beliefs, mydepression and toxic relationship with my family and to a degree myfeeling of superiority. I’m actually very working class but you’llnotice most of my inserts are either very well off OR from thenicest, cleanest place in that universe they can be from – mynewsies insert is from a very wealthy family and my borderlandsinsert is from Helios.)

7. Do you have a‘type’ when it comes to f/os?

Yes but my type haschanged and shifted over time. There are definitely things I likethat kind of resonate throughout all of my F/Os. For example, almostall of my F/Os are confident to a fault. Most of them are also verymasculine, with a few exceptions. A character type I LOVE is therough delinquent with a heart of gold! (Seen in characters likeMondo, Metal Bat and Knuckle.) I also like perverted characters orones that show a lot of interest in women during the show/gamethey’re in (Examples being Scooter, Lance and Leorio.) I also seemto like people who have manual labour jobs or jobs that require themto be quite strong and get quite dirty and occassionaly kinda bruisedup (Examples being Scooter, Metal Bat, Scout, Hunk and Ellis who isnot yet on my F/O list but will be soon! A character I used to selfship with is Little Mac because I loved the idea of seeing him allsweaty and bruised up after a figh aha,,,)

1. Me and Scooter!He is the problematic love of my life.

2. Me and Davey –although my focus has shifted dramatically from Davey to Scooter Istill definitely love this boy a lot

3. THIS IS SUCH ADIFFICULT PICK because honestly Scooter and Davey are and almostalways will be my top 2 BUT– my level of interest in my other F/Osshifts around so much? I’m even considering adding new F/Os thatI’ve become interested in recently, like… Mondo and Scout are thecharacters on the list I’ve shipped with for the longest but… Ithink maybe Leorio? I’ve always thought of Leorio and I as a reallygood couple, we’re so physically different and our personalitiesare such a good mix of getting along and clashing and I just!! idk Ithink number 3 is Leorio!!

9. Your top 5 OTPsamong others in the community?

@smoochesforseven and everyone she ships with. I love Moon so much and all of her shipsare wonderful though there is a soft spot for her and Newt!!

@better-than-nothin-kay and Rhys! We’ve spoken so much about borderlands and about her shipand honestly I love the female bodyguard dynamic it’s really cuteand they would physically look so good together!

@millizines andEarnest – I think this is like, the most undisputed OTP in thecommunity. I have never seen someone be so dedicated to their F/O andthey’re so genuinely in love with one another and have such aunique relationship!!

@momomochaccino andSandy (and spongebob!) – Seeing Momo so happy recently has beenamazing and witnessing what a positive impact the spongebob musicaland show has been for her is amazing!!

Lmao no. Honestly Iwould sob if that ever happened to me and I’ve seen other peoplegetting RP anons regularly in their asks and honestly I… reallywant it aha? I used to RP self ship stuff with a friend, where Iwould write as myself and the character she shipped with, and shewould play herself and the character I shipped with and!! it was!!great!! I would die to find something like that again.

11. Are you anartist or a writer in the community? Or do you do something elseentirely?

Um, both I guess! Iby no means think I’m a good artist but self shipping has reallyhelped me improve in a lot of areas. I highkey hate my style and atsome point I want to dedicate some time into developing it intosomething I can actually enjoy looking at. As for my writing, I’vealways been a talented writer – especially a few years ago. I waswriting frequently and everything I wrote was lowkey incredible.Nowadays, my writing is so few and far between and I am so stronglyout of practice it hurts and I feel almost embarrassed readingthrough any new fic I write. I’m hoping with time I can build myskills and confidence back up again!

12. Name a few ofyour favorite things about self shipping.

Honestly, myfavourite thing about self shipping is that I can feel like I havecompany regardless of how alone I actually am. Countless days spentby myself in my room and during lunchtimes back when I was at schoolcould be spent daydreaming about being loved and having adventureswith characters I enjoy! I always daydream a lot before I fallasleep, usually about cuddling up and spending the evening with oneof my F/Os before I fall alseep. Honestly without selfshipping Idon’t know what I’d do with my time. It’s such a huge thingthat fills up my day to day life and makes me happy, I genuinelydon’t think I’d still be here without it. 

13. Talk about apositive experience you’ve had with the community.

Honestly this iskind of hard for me lmao? I wouldn’t say I’ve had many hugelypositive or many hugely negative experiences overall. There arepeople I’ve found I get along with, there are some people that rubme the wrong way, there are some people I just haven’t spoken to! Ihaven’t really received any hate apart from someone being a dickabout my aesthetic commissions but I don’t really receive theattention I would like to either (is that bratty and selfish?Probably! But at least I’m honest about it lmao.)
