#running into that everpresent problem in video games: being the ''bad guy'' is really hard to actually do with any consistency#bg3 is really the only game that made it fun to be fucked-up from the beginning by making ''bad guy'' into a codified custom character type#only game i've played* (feel free to suggest other rpgs that do this)#(using ''bad guy'' as shorthand but i basically just mean any kind of archetype that is seen as aberrant in the game's world)#obvs i've taken every heretical dialogue option to build up reputation etc and ofc i'm still in act 2 but I AM IMPATIENT#let me commit chaos!!!! also why do i have to wait until act 3 to get marazhai. this game is testing me fr fr#(i wish heretical wasn't so attractive bc it seems iconoclast has more interesting stuff to do earlier on)#i've looked up the average runtime of this game ok and i want to make sure i don't get burned out on it#before i get to do the fun weird shit i signed up for!!!!!#all these combat encounters are killing me also. like they're not *hard* per se (YET) but they're just...... tedious#the combat system itself is fine but i don't really jive with the skillsets they're giving me. like. this shit is boring#kibella is the only one who is fun to do combat with. yayyy death from above yayyyyy yippeeeee

Don’t get me wrong, I was THRILLED to see the Fugitive Doctor, but a) I didn’t have the impression that the Doctor’s life involved flying off on whimsical rogue adventures - such as winning Anansi’s daughter in a bet - prior to being the First, and b) even if it did, how would Fifteen remember that? As far as I know the fob watch is still waiting inside the TARDIS…

god another thing about the reboot is that i wish the NPCs actually said like. interesting stuff. one of the best parts about the first two games is that the NPCs say some really fascinating lines, often adding to the lore of other characters or to stilwater itself. in the reboot, i’ve heard a few isolated lines that were at most sorta funny, but nothing that’s really……adding to the experience? nothing that’s making me ask questions about the larger scope of things.
inb4 anyone says anything i will be the first to say this could totally just be a case of me being unlucky when it comes to NPC dialogue (and in that case i’d be curious to hear what lines you’ve heard), and i’d also argue they saved this type of stuff specifically for the ventures and side hustles, but it’s a little disappointing. like it’s so exciting to just walk around in sr1/sr2 and hear dialogue that makes you ask a million questions in your head. stuff that makes you realize the connections between the characters and the setting and the general public.
#like idk don’t just save that for people involved in the criminal landscape. i wanna hear the thoughts of an average resident#NPC dialogue was one of the biggest charms of the earlier games imo so for it just be :| in the reboot is sad#though this arguably kinda started with srtt and into sriv but there’s a few standout lines from srtt that accomplished what i’m talking abt#srr tag#also this is just me but i miss when NPCs were just mean to you for no reason it was so funny#i just have not really encountered that in the reboot#the boss gets plenty of compliments though#talking about how nice they dress. whatever happened to walking around and a stranger yelling at you to do laundry#the reboot is just so sanded off. i miss everything being rough around the edges. where’s the bite!

reminder to myself that i should craft up an npc based on the 'person' we control in museum mode who was one of the other victims / captives that either the family had caught on the property ( for buckshot routes ) or that johnny likely had dragged down ( for all other aus ) who tried to help get maria out prior basement brawl
.
#i have another npc who was caught & held by nancy that maria encounters & gets locked up w in routes where she stumbles into#nancys section of the basement trying to escape from johnnys'. but that encounter happens within a couple days from basement brawl.#with my longer timeline etc for maria going missing - i think placing this encounter at least for certain au's earlier / closer to#springbreak works. shes still more naive. still hasnt registered from her track record of escape attempts that things are orchestrated#by johnny. that this stranger would Not have gotten out of his restraints & attempted to help her unless johnny ensured it would.#one of his many tests. to see how she reacts. what she tries to do etc. & for buckshot things lay out similar in the end for this person#like it does in museum mode. with maria still restrained in her cell. one of the only other people outside the family that shes seen/heard#in days/weeks & theyre killed before they could do near anything to help her. either way - in any au route - they *tried* to help her

Thinking abt my dupe ocs again... Maybe Quinn does have hashtag issues actually
#rat rambles#oni posting#oc posting#theyre very well known and liked amongst all the colonies as y'know. they helped found all of them.#and theyve always been very friendly and kind and they have always taken their responsibilities incredibly seriously#and when they get time to be on a planet they relish it as they have a great deal of appreciation for the beauty of these worlds#but one thing that has always been a thing for them is that they've never rly had like. friends amongst these colonies#partially because of them having to travel constantly but even when they get time to hang out more theyve sort of unconsciously trained#themself to be a bit emotionaly detached from those around them#it also doesnt help that theyre a digger and usually one of like 2 or 3 on any given planetoid#which earlier on meant thar they rarely encountered other dupes and late on left then with little to do as most of the ongoing work was#already being managed by others specifically trained for the role#so the isolation started to get to them and they started to get rly antsy and didn't know why or how to fix it#when the printing pod went offline they were one of the ones more calm abt the matter due to them being generally more used to the unknown#and this combined with their general good reputation lead to a lot of dupes looking to them for direction and answers alongside burt#this actually made quinn feel rly good for a while since it was their excuse to actually talk to ppl regularly and in more personal ways#theyd hear out ppls anxieties and ideas and newest passions and goals and theyd actually feel like theyre hearing the words said#they liked the feeling of everyone wanting to be around them and seeking them out even on other planetoids#they'd get phone calls and people taking breaks from their work to come say hi and it made them feel real#but as time went on and their fellow dupes became more and more self reliant they began to seek them out less and less#because why bother someone so important and busy when you dont need to right?#and this lead to quinn going wait no why did you all leave me again :(#it felt like before but worse because now they actually had started considering a lot of these guys friends#and they still had no idea how to reach out themself without a work reason and as such they sorta started dissolving again#and its during this time when they start missing the pod and start to get more upset that shes gone#they end up returning to the original partially to be closer to her and partially because it feels the most like home to them#there they start to slowly learn to reach out themself as they sort of sit in a corner watching burt work while shaking like a small dog#this at first is very unwanted by burt who is stressed as hell but they end up forcing him to stick to an actual shift instead of just#working until he passes out and this allows them to hang out while they force him to have downtime with them to keep him from exploding#it becomes a nice comfort time for them both as they rly havent hung out much since the first like 100 cycles or so
