01/11/2023 || Day 104
Personal Chatter
I love that yesterday I was pumped and ready for November and preparing to be productive, and yet today I woke up feeling bad so productivity was low. That's ok, tmr will be better! I also had another ASL class today and the teacher brought us chocolate (and the better thing is that we already know the sign for chocolate before, so we could use that in a sentence today). We've learned about 500 words (do we remember them all? lol, nope), and it's been such a fun class, so I already signed up for the next unit of the class for January.

Even though I didn't feel great today, I did get some stuff done!
LeetCode
Decided to start off with an easy LeetCode question, so I went with Number of Good Pairs and 5 mins later I was done. I previously did the Top Interview 150 questions, but I want more practice with Arrays/Strings, so I'm just doing those types now. Will move onto sorting and binary search trees and linked lists later (once I feel smart again).
Hobby Tracker - Log # 1
Ok, I decided what my full-stack project will be. I want to create a web app in which a user can keep track of different media they want to consume; books, movies, TV shows, and video games. Essentially, I want something that will show me how many things I want to get to (i.e how many books I want to read), and what those things specifically are, and then show me how much of each media type I've completed. For example, I have a spreadsheet of video games I own and I have it show me the % of complete games. I want that, but for all books, movies, shows, and games I enter. Not only that, but for certain media, I want to be able to get a random title from my list. Say I have 20 books I want to read but don't know which to pick. Well, I can ask it to choose a book for me randomly, and I'll read it. That's the basic idea, anyways. Today I spent some time setting up a Trello board to keep track of features I want and functionality I need, and I also started designing the mobile version of the app using Figma. It'll probably be a while before I start coding, but the idea is to have the frontend be built with React, backend with NodeJs, and database be SQL. I'll also be using APIs to get the media info, such as title, genre, etc...This will be the biggest project in terms of scope I've worked on, but hopefully I'll learn a lot.

Null Stack to Full Stack
OVERVIEW
Full stack technology refers to the entire depth of a computer system application, and full stack developers straddle two separate web development domains: the front end and the back end.
The front end includes everything that a client, or site viewer, can see and interact with. By contrast, the back end refers to all the servers, databases, and other internal architecture that drives the application; usually, the end-user never interacts with this realm directly.
The easiest way to put the full stack into perspective is to imagine a restaurant. The front end encompasses the well-decorated, comfortable seating areas where visitors enjoy their food. The kitchen and pantry make up the “back end” and are typically hidden away from the customer’s view. Chefs (developers) gather permanently stored materials from the pantry (the database) and perform operations on it in the kitchen (the server), and then serve up fully-prepared meals (information) to the user.

In this case, you might find various things in the internet. They all might vary. But I am keeping things simple. Among the things I am going to share, you need to focus on one stack instead of all of them. So, here are some of the skills needed to be a fullstack developer.
Front-end programming technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, ReactJS, Bootstrap, jQuery, SASS, Tailwind etc.
Back-end programming technologies:Python, NodeJS, Django, Express etc.
Database: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, etc.
Version Control System: git, GitHub, GitLab, etc
HTTPS and REQUEST Methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, OPTIONS)
Now, it iis important to understand that, the basics are same for all stacks but then the technologies vary. For example the frontend can be built with either React, Angular or Vue or any other framework/library. On the other hand, the backend can be built with either of Node.js, Django (Python) or Spring Boot (Java) or any other framework. I will go to that in the coming lines.
ROADMAP / PLAN FOR THE FIRST SIX MONTHS
About this, there might be multiple other roadmaps that you can follow on your path to become a fullstack developer. I came up with the idea that this path, that I am about to share, can be a planned start to your journey with all the content structured at the right time. So, let's see the plan for the first six months.
🔵 Month 1: HTML, CSS, Javascript
The basic skills required to create a website in HTML and CSS. Javascript adds functionalities to a website and makes the project responsive. HTML is for structure and CSS for Styling. DOM Manipulation and Responsive Web Design are important to practice. Learn about these from W3Schools.
🔵 Month 2: Web Design and Frameworks, Git, HTTPs
Work on Open Source Projects. Once you have good practice with HTML and CSS you can use frameworks like Bootstrap or Material CSS which makes it easy to create websites. Alongside that, it is very important to learn about version control systems (preferrably git) so that you can save and manage your code at GitHub, GitLab, BitBucket or any other similar tool. Also, it is important to learn about HTTPS and REQUEST METHODS (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE and OPTIONS).
🔵 Month 3: Javascript Programming Language
The most important skill and most asked in Interviews and Job portals for Web Development are Javascript. You can expect a lot of interview questions from Javascript, So it's important to learn how javascript works, data structures, and asynchronous javascript.
🔵 Month 4 & 5: Frontend and Backend
Once you are thorough with the above concepts then you can take your skills to the next level by learning Javascript frameworks/libraries like React and Node JS. Point to be noted, I am a big fan of MERN (Mongo, Express, React, Node) stack, so I am always talking about React and Node. But there are other options as well.
Other options:
Frontend: Angular, Vue or any other frontend technology
Backend: Django, Flask, Spring Boot, ASP.Net or any other backend technology
Please do some research in google about the 'FULLSTACK TECH STACKS' and choose the one that you are the most comfortable with. Just a reminder, if you want to be a Java Fullstack Developer, then you need to have Java knowledge before stepping on to learning Fullstack development. Same case goes for Python, C# or any other technologies.
Most importantly, when you start learning a new technology, please start by learning from the official documentation of each individual technology. Then maybe go for other resources from the internet.
🔵 Month 6: Database and Projects
In the final month, create a portfolio and create projects using frontend and backend technologies you’ve learnt. Also, an important skill to have is knowledge of Database Management Systems like PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB. Also, you need to understand how to connect the Database to Server using the backend Framework.

In the internet today, you can find various courses and tutorials on Fullstack development. CSS should be respected from the very first day

Different kind of organizations have different people for doing the jobs of web development. Like the traditional approach being followed is mainly to deliver a web technology enabled product, is to have following categorized teams
FRONTEND: A team of people who will write the code for the user interface of your application.
BACKEND: A team of individuals which will hide all the spaghettis and handle requests which are generated by the beautiful UIs’ ()developed by the frontend team.
DEVOPS: These people will make the deployment process easy for us, by using technologies like Docker or kubernetes,JENKINS etc. They create CI/CD pipelines to create deployment process smooth.
DATA SCIENTISTS: Whatever data you have, or your application collects, these people will make sense out of that data by using some mathematical algorithms and machine learning tools.
DBA: Database administrators which will handle the allocation of resources/tablespaces/user management/roles over a database
and there are many more categories which I can define and the list will just bore you, however I have listed the main categorization of various teams to deliver a full fledged product for web.
But specifically I want to talk about CSS today, Its not long ago that applications following MVC for example Spring MVC/struts/JSP-servlets etc, mainly handle the Backend/frontend of specific page/feature was done by a single developer.
However due to breakdown of responsibilities, some organizations divide frontend itself in categories.
Framework Developer : Angular/React/Vue
Styling Developer: CSS/SASS/SCSS
User Experience
Wire frame creator: To create a dummy design which will help the investors/Product owners that how the final product will look like.
All these years, I have seen that not all the companies follow these structures. The possible factors which impact these categorizations is funding of the project, number of people in the project with skills, timelines, principles followed by the organization for the delivery of the product.
Because let me tell you this, I have seen(and have done my self) most of these tasks which should be done by the specialists in their domains by myself, But I don’t take it as something wrong, but the inclusion of terms like Full stack and the competition demands from you to be good at multiple skills today.
But I have seen that while interviewing for such positions, people tend to prepare less for CSS and also the organizations hiring for the roles like Full Stack/Frontend technologies ask very less questions from the person in the interview.
I know that stackoverflow/some website/blog will always solve your issue, given that you are not working on some custom created APIs which may have custom exceptions etc specific to the organizations you are working in.
But from my recently gained knowledge about CSS/SCSS I want to tell you that CSS is so powerful technology in itself now, that inclusion of flex and Grid have powered CSS to be taken as A framework in itself now. I was also reading somewhere that animations written in pure CSS are having best performance of all available options and are recommended also. CSS itself have a architecture and project structure for itself for applications. I know JavaScript is magic but sometimes CSS can add more fun to that magic and with very less effort.
If you are creating class every time in your HTML component for a simple functionality, and surviving on margins/paddings, and you don't know how to center a item on the screen, and your screen breaks on different resolutions; I don’t care if you can handle databases/Rest APIs’/UIs’, you are not full stack developer for me.
