January 2025 Frozen map bonanza!
That's right, there is more than just in-depth studies of Frozen kingdoms and family trees in the Archive cabinets.
This was my present to the Arendelle Archives discord server for the new year! A quick recap of every large scale map we've seen in the Frozen franchise so far.
Here they are in order of appearance:
1. Frozen - The Troll Map (2013)
A supposedly ancient map that guided the royal family to the Valley of the Living Rock on the night of the accident. In the novel Dangerous Secrets (2020), it was revealed that the map had once belonged to Agnarr's mother Queen Rita. Ironically, later maps have proven this location of the Troll Valley to be incorrect.
2. Frozen Free Fall (2014)
A massive 3d-map assembled from screenshots of the mobile game Frozen Free Fall. Shared by u/DuckOfDuckness on reddit (full quality in the comments). Some of the locations, like the Troll Valley on the middle left, are actually consistent with later maps.
3. Frozen Fever (2015)
The first map that showed us the outline of Arendelle and The Southern Isles. Thanks to this, fans quickly deduced that Hans's home country was based on the Danish island Funen (Fyn). Note: "Nordsoen" (technically Nordsøen) is Danish for the North Sea, the real sea between Scandinavia, Denmark and the British Isles.
4. Frozen: Live at the Hyperion - Arendelle History 101 Queue Video (2015)
The only official map so far to feature Weselton. An expansion of the map from Frozen Fever. Shared by u/ArendelleKnight on reddit (video). Notice how the seemingly small island gets cut off on the left? I suspect Weselton is a bit bigger than what's seen here. Edit by me on the right.
5. Sailing Sisters (2016)
A comic book map I very recently analysed in my Frozen-project covering the kingdom of Vakretta! Arendelle is to the right and Vakretta is to the left. Also, notice how the large island at the top appears to be in the same location as Weselton on the previous map.
6. Forest of Shadows (2019)

The first and only map so far to show actual places of interest in the kingdom. The locations of Oaken's trade post, the Troll Valley as well as the Roaring River are consistent with the Frozen Free Fall-map! A very interesting map overall. Just don't look too close at the misaligned grid compared to the compass. Or the ridiculously wide fjord...
7. Saks Fifth Avenue - Disney’s Frozen II Enchanted Forest Experience Booklet (2019)
A proper little treasure revealed to me by @saiten-gefroren through his Frozen timeline project Annals of Frozen in 2021. Originally posted on Instagram by @imdaaddlepate. Edit by me on the right.
8. Frozen II: Spirits of the Enchanted Forest - Iduna's Map (2019)

A re-imagining of the scene from the movie (even though the book was released before the movie) and actually showed the whole map, including The Southern Isles. In this version, Ahtohallan is a mapped landmass rather than just a sketch! According to what's revealed in Dangerous Secrets, this actually makes sense!
9. Frozen II: Look and Find (2019)
This version of the map also shows Ahtohallan as a mapped landmass.
10. The Art of Frozen II - Arendelle Town Map

Concept art (3D model) for Frozen II by David Womersley. According to the map, this part of the town is called"Arendelle North", suggesting the other (southern) half of the town is called "Arendelle South."
11. Frozen II - Iduna's Map (2019)
The map seen in the movie showing the borders of Arendelle and Northuldra. Rivers are consistent with the map from Forest of Shadows, meaning the Roaring River marks Arendelle's northern border. This map was a breakthrough for analysing Arendelle's location, as it features real coordinates along the "frame". You can find interesting theories about this here, here and here (my own project). Edits by me.
12. Frozen: The Saga - The Legacy of Anna and Elsa - Iduna's Map (2020)
Iduna's map before she hid it in the watertight compartment. Like the movie map, this one is cut off at the bottom and is missing The Southern Isles.
13. The Love Tree (2021)
An adaptation of the map from Frozen Fever. To my knowledge, this is the only other time we've seen this particular map design appear in a comic. What's odd is that (besides using the outdated geography) Kai is pointing out the land across the Arenfjord as if it belongs to Arendelle when the map from Frozen II clearly showed it doesn't. But at least we can credit the artist for getting the compass angle right!
14. Disney Wish - Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure (2022)

A slightly adapted version of the map from Frozen Fever, with "Nordsoen" (North Sea) written in English instead of the original Danish. The "frame" also features added coordinates. Unfortunately, the latitude is off by one degree compared to the map from Frozen II. The third pic was very kindly shared with me on discord by BadAtNamesAndFaces.
15. Tokyo DisneySea: Frozen Kingdom - Royal Banquet of Arendelle (2024)
This is the complete version of Iduna's map from Frozen II. Found in one of the dining halls of the Royal Banquet of Arendelle restaurant. The map once again confirms the borders of Arendelle and Northuldra.
16. Tokyo DisneySea: Frozen Kingdom - Kristoff's Ice Delivery Map (2024)

Many variations of this cartoon-y map have been included in the Frozen Official magazine throughout the years but this is to my knowledge the first time it has appeared "in-universe". Locations and rivers are consistent with previous maps. Note: the "Best ice in Arendelle!"-spot by the North Mountain is actually located outside the kingdom. It seems Kristoff doesn't have the best navigation skills 😁

So, in Poland recently came translation of the French Disney Novels collection by Hachette, that for now includes BATB, Snow White.... and Frozen :333
And in the case of our favorite Prince of the fandom, we have some information about him that because of the borders of publishing in different countries, many people not know (THIS COLLECTION IS NOT EVEN YET PUBLISHED IN POLAND, I GOT IT FROM THE GUY THAT ORDERED IT FROM THE FIRST HAND FROM THEIR WEBSITES T_T)..... and because I will have this gift for Easter, not yet, the second part of Hans lore there will be at late April/early May, with my seaside May weekend in my country :333

But we have some information about Hans, that gives us sight to him closer, reveal him as a much softer and carefree person than we thought, AND SHOWING HANS IN A SOFTER WAY AND WARMING HIS APPEARANCE IN THE EYES OF HATERS AND DISNEY ITSELF IS THE BEST THING EVER TwT
So :
We have confirmation that Hans loves candies and him and Anna have eaten "millions of them".... :333 I LOVE THEY SHOW THE SWEETEST AND MOST ADORABLE SIDE OF HANS HERE, MY HEART WARMS AT THIS SIGHT AND WORDS TwT

We also have.... THE CONFIRMATION OF HANS BROTHERS'S NAMES, FIRST PRESENTED IN A FROZEN HEART AND ALL IS FOUND, AND ALSO ONCE UPON A TIME.... THIS IS SO GREAT THAT IT BASICALLY CONFIRMS THAT THE FROZEN NOVELS ARE CANON NOT ONLY IN THE MAIN FRANCHISE, BUT ALSO IN FOREIGN ORIGINAL NOVELIZATIONS!!!

And my man Lars is included there.... THANK YOU FRENCH DISNEY!!! TwT
I don't have exact quotes, but there are three quotes that for me very much show Hans's personality.... AND ARE CONSTRUCTED IN THAT WAY THAT IT SUGGESTS THAT HANS, IN FACT, WAS REALLY CURSED BY SOME EVIL MAGIC, BECAUSE THE TEXT DOESN'T STRAIGHTFORWARD REVEAL HANS'S PLANS, RATHER SHOWING HIM AS THE PERSON WHO WANTS MORE FOR ARENDELLE THAN GIVING OUT THE BLANKETS AND CLOAKS.... FANDOM, WHERE ARE YOU WITH THIS THEORY? IT COULD BE TRUE NOW.... T_T
This quote says : "Anna saw that Hans's face was darker and more gloomy, not resembling the sunny person she fell in love with anymore" (suggesting that either Hans was tired because of responsibility and stress that came to him, either that he is a sociopath, or either that he was REALLY cursed, as fans suspected....)
Next quote confirms that Hans is, in fact, a people pleaser to people he likes : (replacing the krumkake eating scenes for some reason) :
"Anna and Hans made a chocolate eating race, and Hans was enjoying it to please Anna" (MY HANSANNA HEART OMG!!! TwT)
And the last quote, confirming Hans as a good leader and softer person than we thought TwT <33333 :
"Hans realized that helping Arendelle should be more than giving out cloaks and blankets...."
OVERALL, I WILL HAVE THIS BOOK FULLY READ PROBABLY ON MY TRIP IN MAY TO THE SEASIDE, BUT STAY TUNED FOR IT, BECAUSE EVERY HANS LORE MENTION IS IMPORTANT!!! ^^ <333

Hello my pals
Let's talk the Southern Isles
Now, the only picture we have from there is this one:

This one Gazette snippet:

And the vague description in "A Frozen Heart".
But I would like to focus on the one picture we have, from "Frozen Fever" and no, it ain't about Hans, it's about everything around him.
Now, let's remember the date. It is June. It is Summer Solstice.
Look. At. The. Trees. Those trees aren't just late with their leaves, they look dead.
And now look at the ground. Look at the sky. Look at the gate which looks like ruins.
And the Gazzette says it is a "beautiful, clear day". I am sorry, that is what you are considering "a clear day"?
Now, it is probably just an animator's way to show us how bleak Hans' life is now, but this + what we know about their king from "A Frozen Heart" gives me the vibe of...
This.
I may be reading too much about it, but I don't think this kingdom is fine.

We finally know the full layout of the canon Frozenverse!
Thanks to this post (requires an account) by twitter-user ann_mochi and this tumblr-post by @sparebutton , we FINALLY have a full map of the known Fozen movie-universe!
Previously, we've seen glimpses of the general geography of Arendelle and the surrounding lands from Frozen Fever, Frozen II and in books and promotion material surrounding the movies and I even wrote a 3-part series about Frozen's geography back in 2021, but never before has there been a source showing Anna and Elsa's world to its full extent and in such detail!
Original image.

Thanks to this image being framed and hung on a wall, the process of aligning it correctly was very easy! I used my ancient copy of SketchUp to edit and match the photo to a flat surface and with the help of Gigapixel upscaling, this is the result!
Note: north is to the left.
It looks awesome IMO 😍
For future installments, what we're missing are labels for other adjacent kingdoms, but it appears Disney never seems to bother with such trivial worldbuilding details.
Below, I've put together a quick overview of the areas visible on previous Frozen maps.
The Frozen Fever map mostly covers ocean. The northern half of the continent was changed in Frozen II.
Iduna's map from Frozen II map was the most detailed version we had for a long time and it added things like borders and names for the Arenfjord and the Dark Sea. It covers 3/4 the full map.
Technically, the whole map was also featured in the books "Frozen: The Saga - Anna and Elsa's Journey" and "Frozen II: Spirits of the Enchanted Forest" but it was impossible to attempt any sort of aligning because of the distorted perspective.
There is one more piece of the worldbuilding-puzzle (Weselton) that could be added, but I'll save that for another time.

Presenting our latest Frozen-project:
Vakretta - With little to offer
An in-depth study of one of Arendelle's friendly neighbouring kingdoms.
By: @virtual-winter January 14th, 2025 → LINK! ←
It’s finally here! And you won’t believe how much I’ve been looking forward to getting this project off my shoulders😅
What started as a simple "mini-project" in September of last year quickly grew out of proportion (why is this true for most of my projects?) and eventually turned into a 30+ page extensive deep-dive into one of the many nations of the Frozenverse: Arendelle’s neighbour, the kingdom of Vakretta.
Since it was first introduced in the short story “Across the Sea” in 2015, Vakretta has been featured in over 10 books and has a fair share of lore associated with it. With this analysis, I wanted to find every known piece of information about the kingdom and present it all in one place where it could be easily referenced. The analysis is therefore divided into sections covering all the published works where Vakretta appears, what characters are from there, what might have inspired it and a discussion about its connections with other nations in the Frozenverse. There's also a complete reference list.
All in all, it’s been an absolute pain joy to work on this project and I’ve had such great support from my fellow Archive-members! A special shout-out goes out to:
@bigfrozenfan @cloudberriesforaqueen @saiten-gefroren @snowflaketale12 @theartoffrozen Fellow Archivist forresthopkinsa
I hope you will enjoy this trip into the unknown and hopefully you'll learn something about the world outside of Arendelle!

Queen Clara Bille Westergaard how I love you... she didn't deserved to be treated as a trophy wife and wallpaper in her own castle and be alcoholic and dead... she is the definition of "she deserves so much better" trope.
(ignoring this mfs because they don't deserve to be mentioned in tags and in the post like normal people ^^)
and the fact she looks like Anna... parallels between Friedrich and Clara + Hans and Anna break me (especially because Hans never wanted to be like him...........)
BUT LOOK AT HER SHE IS SO CUTE. LIKE SHE IS THAT TYPE OF MOTHER YOU COULD HUG WHEN YOU ARE UPSET AND SHE TAKES YOU TO THE KITCHEN TO BAKE TOGETHER TO UP YOUR MOOD.... SHE IS THE CUTEST. THE REAL MONARCH OF THE ISLES. SHE DESERVED BETTER.

Olina also plays a vital role in the book "Anna finds a friend" where she and young Anna are good friends. It's also revealed Olina is the one delivering meals to Elsa in her room.
KAI, GERDA and OLINA, the good souls of Arendelle Castle
I have not seen or perhaps overlooked any posts about this reliable adjutant and servant. I think it is time to shed some light on him and also on Gerda and Olina, because all of them really deserve a little more attention. But that might also be due to the fact that they do their service so reliably and inconspicuously and at the same time so considerately towards the Majesties and Highnesses, and although they play an important role in all movies and shorts they are only supporting roles. So it’s high time to compile a few facts as far as they are available to me. I would be pleased if you would participate here with your own additions, because I cannot know everything. I know this post isn’t as important than any about the main characters, but if you have some time to read, well…
This is a very long post incl. many pictures.

I would have loved to be around on tumblr when these discussions were going on. The royal garden is indeed quite the mystery, or at least it might appear so at first glance. The problem is that we are all deceived by the willow tree by the main gates.
The location of the garden is in fact not to the right of the gates but rather on the south facade of the outer castle walls.
You son't see this animated in Frozen. Maybe the location just wasn't deemed essential enough to be included in the overhead shots? Here it's just a barren slab of rock:

But in Frozen II however:

The little patch of land has sprouted trees and everything! Even though it's not a perfect rendition of the close-up scenes, they at least provide evidence that this is actually the correct location.
First, the base of the tower that houses the gate to the garden is square, not round like the corner towers that flank the main castle gates (and where the famous willow tree can be seen). The top of the wall also sports a roof, something which the wall on the right side of the willow tree doesn't have.

Second, you can see the base of the square tower as well as the tall outer castle wall that extends into the harbour on the left side in the concept art.

No, there's no obvious sign of Agnarr and Iduna's willow tree in the overhead shots but like with so many other details about Arendelle castle, the small-scale environments often don't match well with the large-scale ones.
All of the above of course also gives us the location of the door leading to the garden seen from "inside" the castle courtyard. It's right behind the chapel at the base of the southern square tower.

Here are also some bonus scenes from the comic "A mysterious invitation" and the book "Anna finds a friend" that feature the garden.

Doors, doors, doors
@frozen-sunflowersandlilies
Let me explain my thoughts about the door to the willow garden. It is not this door under the yellow A.

In the next image, "W" is the willow garden. I have redrawn the yellow "A" which is within the courtyard. The door (marked in yellow) under the yellow A cannot lead to the willow garden as there is a whole section of wall between the willow garden and the courtyard. The yellow door is the one through which Elsa passed through, both in F1 to the North mountain and in F2 during Into the Unknown. Her path is in black.

The next pic (below) shows another view of the castle and the reverse of the yellow door (dotted). The yellow door can't directly be seen here because it opens into a small stone area and the black door is 90 degrees to the yellow door. This black door is the one elsa/anna/Hans passed through in F1 and down the stairs.

So this pic below shows the willow garden ("W"). Again, it is outside the castle courtyard and separated by a long wall. There is definitely a door that connects the courtyard to this garden, which I have marked the hypothetical location as a yellow rectangle. You can also see the position of the path that Elsa took (black) and how the door under the yellow A is separate from the willow garden door.

There is definitely evidence of a door to the willow garden in these two pics below.

Lastly, this is an F2 concept art which shows a very detailed view of the willow garden that isn't in the final movie. This concept garden is much bigger and has a boat and a small dock. In this concept art we can clearly see a door.

In summary
I hope I have shown that the door under the yellow A is not the door to the willow garden. It is the door that Elsa leaves the castle through. Only the outside of the willow door can be seen but I've not been able to find the courtyard side of this door though I guess its hypothetical location is somewhere here:

The willow garden itself is terribly inconsistent and full of continuity errors 🥴 it is super detailed in the shots with Anna and barely detailed in others. Oh well, we could say that Anna has an earth magic that she brings with her when she steps into any place? ❤️
Let me know your thoughts and findings!

Just wanted to say I love your posts! I’ve been curious about Frozen’s world lately, mainly all the possible kingdoms that exist since I only know of three (Arendelle Weselton and the southern isles) and i appreciate the effort you’ve made to try and find and source different ones that are mentioned in other media
With that in mind, do you have a post anywhere that puts all of these places together in a sort of list? Or do you maybe plan to make one?
Sorry recent anon here I feel like I should clarify that my interest in Frozen’s kingdoms is because I’m trying to figure out a map involving locations from different Disney movies so I was wondering with the kingdoms from Frozen’s media where you think they would go
Thank you so much for your kind message, Anon! We greatly appreciate that our content has been to your and other fans' liking😁
And you've come to the right place. The kingdoms of the Frozenverse is a special interest to us as well and as you might have seen in some of our previous works, mapping the world of Frozen is definitely one of our main goals!
So yeah, we most definitely have (and are working on refining) a list of Frozen nations. These are the ones we can confirm so far:
Arendelle
Akerselva
Blakeston
Blavenia
Bølgete (aka Bolgete Island)
Bordignon
Brinnon
Chatho
Corona
Eldora
Frederborg
Kongsberg
Northuldra
Ødemark (aka Odemark Isle)
Riverland
Royaume
Sankershus
Selinia
Snoob
The Southern Isles
Tikaani
Torres
Vakretta
Vassar
Vesterland
Weselton
Yuwabe
Zaria
Where are they on the map? Only four of them (Arendelle, Northuldra, The Southern Isles and Weselton) have confirmed locations so far while the rest are speculation.
I promise we'll return with a more detailed post in the future where we go into some kingdom 'stats' and where they appear.
