The original Jon on this blog. Older than all the other Jons (40+ in human years) and everyone’s dad. He loves baking, cooking, reading stories, and his boyfriend Damien. Evil!Jon / Lost!Jon

A cruel version of Jon who came to Earth not to tell a Story, but to do his mad experiments on human beings. He had hired a collection of Mariellas (yes, all women called Mariella) and kidnapped a bunch of Stanleys for his test chambers. His most famous experiment was fusing two Stanleys together.  After getting his ass handed to him though and having his organization disbanded, he is a lot less evil and more of a lost wanderer searching for his next purpose.  His Stanley is: Maso (Mason Paines) His Mariella is: Mariella Carter His Maelle is: May Von Cannes

On Wednesday 28 September 1994, cruiseferry MS Estonia sank to the Baltic Sea, taking with her 852 of her 989 passengers and crew

The sinking was one of the worst maritime disasters of the 20th century. It is one of the deadliest peacetime sinkings of a European ship, after the RMS Titanic in 1912 and the RMS Empress of Ireland in 1914, and the deadliest peacetime shipwreck to have occurred in European waters. The disaster had a major impact on ferry safety, leading to changes in safety regulations as well as in life-raft design.

Estonia departed from Tallinn, Estonia, slightly behind schedule at 19:15 on 27 September and had been expected in Stockholm, Sweden, the next morning at about 09:00. She was carrying 803 passengers and 186 crew.

According to the final disaster report, the weather was rough. Esa Mäkelä, the captain of Silja Europa who was appointed on-scene commander for the subsequent rescue effort, described the weather as “normally bad”, or like a typical autumn storm in the Baltic Sea. All scheduled passenger ferries were at sea, something not unusual for this weather in the Baltic Sea.

The first sign of trouble aboard Estonia was when a metallic bang was heard, presumably caused by a heavy wave hitting the bow doors around 01:00, when the ship was on the outskirts of the Turku archipelago, but an inspection—limited to checking the indicator lights for the ramp and visor—showed no problems. Over the next 10 minutes, similar noises were reported by passengers and other crew. At about 01:15, the visor is believed to have separated and torn open the loading ramp behind it. The ship immediately took on a heavy starboard list (initially around 15 degrees, but by 01:30, the ship had rolled 60 degrees and by 01:50 the list was 90 degrees) as water flooded into the vehicle deck.  Estonia was turned to port and slowed before her four engines cut out completely.

The vessel’s rapid list and the flooding prevented many people in the cabins from ascending to the boat deck, as water not only flooded the vessel via the car deck, but also through windows in cabins as well as the massive windows along deck 6. The windows gave way to the powerful waves as the ship listed and the sea reached the upper decks. Survivors reported that water flowed down from ceiling panels, stairwells and along corridors from decks that were not yet under water.

A mayday was communicated by the ship’s crew at 01:22, but did not follow international formats. Estonia directed a call to Silja Europa and only after making contact with her did the radio operator utter the word “Mayday”. The radio operator on Silja Europa, chief mate Teijo Seppelin, replied in English: “Estonia, are you calling Mayday?” After that, the voice of third mate Andres Tammes took over on Estonia and the conversation shifted to Finnish.

Tammes was able to provide some details about their situation but, due to a loss of power, he could not give their position, which delayed rescue operations somewhat. Tammes would later die in the sinking. Some minutes later, power returned (or somebody on the bridge managed to lower him or herself to the starboard side of the bridge to check the marine GPS, which will display the ship's position even in blackout conditions), and the Estonia was able to radio its position to Silja Europa and Mariella. The ship disappeared from the radar screens of other ships at around 01:50, and sank in international waters, about 22 nmi (41 km) on bearing 157° from Utö island, Finland, to a depth of 74 to 85 m (245 to 280 ft) of water.

Mariella, the first of five ferries to reach the scene of the accident, arrived at 02:12. A full-scale emergency was only declared at 02:30. Mariella winched open liferafts into the sea onto which 13 people on Estonia’s rafts successfully transferred, and reported the location of other rafts to Swedish and Finnish rescue helicopters, the first of which arrived at 03:05. The former took survivors to shore, while the latter—Finnish border guard helicopters Super Puma OH-HVG and Agusta Bell 412 OH-HVD—chose the riskier option of landing on the ferries. The pilot of OH-HVG stated that landing on the ferries was the most difficult part of the whole rescue operation; despite that, this single helicopter rescued 44 people, more than all the ferries. MS Isabella saved 16 survivors with its rescue slide.

Of the 989 on board, 138 were rescued, one of whom died later in hospital. Ships rescued 34 and helicopters 104; the ferries played a much smaller part than the planners had intended because it was too dangerous to launch their man-overboard (MOB) boats or lifeboats.

In total, 94 bodies were recovered: 93 within 33 days of the accident, and the last victim was found 18 months later. By the time the rescue helicopters arrived, around a third of those who escaped from the Estonia had died by drowning and hypothermia, as the water temperature was 10–11°C (50–52°F). Most victims were Swedish and Estonian nationals.

The survivors of the shipwreck were mostly young males with strong constitutions. Seven over 55 years of age survived and there were no survivors under age 12. About 650 people were still inside the ship when it sank. The commission estimated that up to 310 passengers reached the outer decks, 160 of whom boarded the life-rafts or lifeboats.

The official investigation report indicated that the locks on the bow door had failed from the strain of the waves and the door had separated from the rest of the vessel, pulling the ramp behind it ajar. The bow visor and ramp had been torn off at points that would not trigger an “open” or “unlatched” warning on the bridge, as is the case in normal operation or failure of the latches. The bridge was also situated too far back on the ferry for the visor to be seen from there.

The first metallic bang was believed to have been the sound of the visor’s lower locking mechanism failing, and that the subsequent noises would have been from the visor “flapping” against the hull as the other locks failed, before tearing free and exposing the bow ramp.  The subsequent failure of the bow ramp allowed water into the vehicle deck, which was identified as the main cause of the capsizing and sinking.

Conspiracy theories exist about the cause of the sinking. Theories revolve around deliberate sabotage, smuggling of military hardware (later confirmed by the Swedish government, but allegedly not on the night of the disaster), and alleged sightings of military vehicles and crew members among the survivors that were later confirmed dead, as well as the general rapid rate of sinking (less than an hour). The decision to not recover any bodies, cover the wreck with concrete (this idea was abandoned), and prohibit citizens from even approaching the wreck have added fuel to the theories. Some survivors and loved ones of the victims support the conspiracy theories.

A previously unreported 4-metre hole on the hull was discovered in 2020 by a documentary crew, prompting the reopening of the investigation.

Peekamoose Blue Hole, Sundown NY

Directions: Unfortunately you have to drive here. Parking is limited so you need to make a $10 reservation. Make sure to make reservations at the beginning of the week. Reservations go quickly. This is a super popular spot. There's camping grounds and Buttermilk Falls.

Notes: This was one of my bucket list hikes. To be honest, I’m not too much of a swimmer so I was worried I’d be bored but I found out there was a 7.2 mile out and back hike right next to the blue hole. Over 3000 ft of elevation in 3 miles so I was stoked.

Unfortunately it was rainy so I was walking in the rain for the first mile. Boy the drive there though was breathtaking. I never went to the PNW but the drive there is what I expect the PNW to be like. It was pouring rain and the rain stopped and I passed a dam and lake. Thick fog was settled close to the water. It was amazing to see. If it haven’t rained I wouldn’t have seen a sight like that.

The park rangers were nice here. I think when I go hiking some folks are surprised because they don’t really expect a person like me to do these kinds of hikes so they like making conversation. I really like speaking with park rangers (my dream job is to be a park ranger) and I appreciate all that they do. Anywho, I couldn't do the full hike because I started to feel not so good. I only got to do 1600 ft in elevation and 4 miles and I walked to the blue hole. I did a quick dip. I don't think I've seen such clear water. I didn't take a pic of the actual blue hole because there were a bunch of people but it was the color of blue gatorade. It was cold.

After my hike I decided to visit several towns because I was curious and maybe I'd like to live there one day. I passed by Shokan, it was the countryside definitely. I decided to stop at the rail trail and I was hearing gun shots because it's an active hunting ground. Olive, NY is really pretty. Then I went to Kingston and I passed by Newburgh and Highland, NY. Highland was a really nice quaint town and Kingston, some of the building reminded me of Trenton. They both have a lot of historical buildings. I def need to visit Newburgh again because the walkway to Poughkeepsie is there. Overall a very fulfilling trip!

Pigeon Charles (and Chronicle) ft. Stanley

So, the summary is STILL in the making (I know I KNOW!!! ^^;;;;;) because 1. I'm still writing the other Parables, and 2. I planned to post them individually with an artwork of the Narrators with their Stanleys (as well as the different concepts like Curator, Mariella, 432, etc.)

Then my friend Stone (@stonekingsketchesmostlyoronlyidk) gave the idea of drawing Charles as a pigeon. So I started a Pigeon Study: figure out how to draw a pigeon in my style ^^

The silence of her street was disrupted by the roar of motorcycles. A smile broke out across her face as she sat on the couch, waiting for when her two brothers would come crashing into her house like a couple of frat boys. It had been a while since they had some time with just the three of them, and she was glad that they caught enough of a break to come over for dinner and to watch the fights. She’d contemplated making a club-wide invite, but the more she thought about it, the more she really just wanted some time with just the three Reyes siblings.

The clamor of bikes went from nearly deafening, to nonexistent as they cut their engines. Mere moments later, the door swung open and Angel came striding through making a ruckus upon entry as usual. EZ was a couple steps behind him, laughing and shaking his head as his brother’s antics.

“Let’s fuckin’ go!” Angel strode into her living room.

Mariella laughed, shaking her head at him from her spot on the couch, “I think you’re more ready than any of these guys are,” she gestured towards the television.

“Psh, nah,” Angel shook his head as he collapsed on the couch next to her, “My boy AJ has got this in the bag. No doubt.”

“He can’t hear you, you know,” EZ chuckled as he kicked off his boots and wandered into the kitchen, “you don’t gotta back him up if you don’t mean it.”

Mariella watched at how differently her two brothers handled themselves. She’d always been a bit more like EZ than Angel, on the quieter side, always more of an observer. But all three of them had very similar senses of humor which made for an extremely fun time when they all got together. She could see it in Angel’s eyes that he was about to turn the conversation into a shit-talking match. And, as much as she loved sitting back and watching those happen, she also didn’t want it getting too out of hand before the fight even started.

“Can I help you find something over there, EZ?” she asked with a laugh as she watched her brother poke around the stove, being nosey as to what she’d pulled together.

“Just checking to see if I should call and get something delivered or not,” there was a smirk on his face.

Rolling her eyes she stood up off the couch and went over to him, playfully shoving him away from the stove, “Never once have you complained about my cooking,” she tapped the side of his head, “Play back the tapes—you know I’m right,” she turned and looked over at Angel, who was texting someone on his phone, “You on the other hand.”

He looked up, eyebrows raised, “What? I don’t complain.”

Both Mariella and EZ laughed, and shook their heads. She started pulling plates down out of the cupboard, “You definitely do. Which is fucking ironic considering how you can’t boil water without burning the house down.”

He flopped back onto the couch, hand over his heart in a dramatic display of pain, “That hurts, Mari. That fuckin’ hurts.”

“Here,” she walked over and handed him a plate full of food, “this should dull the pain a bit.”

He sat up, eagerly accepting the plate but still trying to play it cool, “I’ll be the judge of that.”

The main event was about halfway through, and Angel and EZ had been relentless. Mariella had sat back, thoroughly enjoying listening to the two of them. Truthfully, it was better than listening to the actual commentators of the fight. She drank her way through another beer, setting the empty bottle onto the table with the others.

For whatever reason, despite the fact that Mari and EZ had both put their empty plates on the coffee table with everything else, Angel’s was still resting in his lap. Every time he waved his arms around, or went to jump up off the couch and stand up, he’d have to fumble and catch it before it fell to the ground. A couple times she tried to get it from him, and was met with him swatting her away saying that he was going to go back for more after the next round was over. It never happened, of course, and the balancing act continued. Mari chuckled, shaking her head at herself just as much as him—she always told herself that she should start using paper plates whenever they came over.

Somehow, they made it through the twelve rounds of the fight and no one accidentally broke any plates or spilled any beer. There were a couple close calls, and Mariella made sure to remind her siblings that any stains on her carpet or couch would have to be taken care of, or paid for, by them. It was just enough of a threat to keep them cautious.

“Pay up!” Mariella held her hand out to her brother, “Told you he wasn’t gonna pull this off.”

“Wait,” EZ looked back and forth between his brother and sister, “you guys had money riding on this?” he turned to Angel, “You said you weren’t betting this.”

“Yea,” he dug his wallet out of his pocket, pulling out a few bills for his sister, “not with you.”

“He thought it’d be an easy bet to win against me,” Mariella chuckled as she swiped the bills from him, “Sucker.”

“Bro,” EZ shook his head with a smile, “You’ve never won a sport’s bet against her. Ever.”

“Figured tonight would finally be my night,” Angel shook his head as he shoved his wallet away, “Apparently not.”

“Here,” Mariella took one of the bills and handed it over to EZ.

Both the Reyes boys looked at her with confusion on their faces. EZ took the money hesitantly, “What’s this for?”

“Compensation for all the ranting and bitterness you’re gonna have to listen to when you guys leave. Plus, you called the fight same as me,” she laughed as she tucked the money into the back pocket of her jeans.

“Can’t believe you bet behind my back,” EZ shook his head at Angel, “I expected that from her, but you?”

“Just out here tryna make a buck, Boy Scout,” Angel replied with a shrug.

“And yet,” EZ flashed the money in front of his brother’s face, “you’re the only one who didn’t make any.”

Angel shook his head slightly, “I’ll snatch that money right outta your fuckin’ hands, EZ.”

“Only if you’re quick enough,” EZ joked as he tucked the money into his pocket.

As EZ and Angel got ready to head out for the night, Mariella couldn’t help but to stand back and listen to the two of them bicker and joke with each other. Things had been stressful for them lately, and she knew that free time for them was difficult to come by, but she enjoyed having them over when they had the time.

“I’ll bring leftovers to the clubhouse tomorrow,” she leaned against the doorframe as they made their way out onto her front steps, “Since neither of you have smartened up and learned to bring the truck.”

“Pops only lends it to you all the time, you know,” Angel replied with a shake of his head.

“Actually, I think you’re the only one he doesn’t lend it to,” she laughed and gestured to EZ, “I see him cruising around all the time.”

“Fuck both you guys,” Angel laughed as he pulled her into a hug, squeezing her a little tighter than necessary before kissing the top of her head, “Love you, Mari. Talk to you tomorrow.”

She laughed, nodding as he made his way down the steps, “Love you too.”

“Thanks for dinner,” EZ kissed right where her hairline met her forehead, “Love you.”

“Love you too,” she gave him a playful nudge towards his bike, “I’ll let you get the good bets next time.”

He turned around and smiled, “You better!”
