gdybyście mieszkali w Warszawie, czy was larp nazywałby się "Lalka" zamiast "Ziemia obiecana"?
if you lived in Warszawa, would your larp be called "Lalka" instead of Promiseland?
you have no idea how much i love this comment jhgfhj
No.
If we were from Warsaw we would be called "Children of the W hour" and it would be sick also we would get cancelled for joking about world war ii. The book by Władysław Rejmont and the movie by Andrzej Wajda that share the name with us, have this moody, blasphemous, queer, xix century vibe that we share as a group. Also "The Promiseland" has kind of a ring to it, that "The Doll" wouldn't at least for me. "Lalka" even as the warsaw-book in a sense, wouldn't have the same coalition of everything that we deem important to our souls and asses. ((...tho' Kitku kins the Stanisław Wokulski H A R D)) Lalka is a title that doesn't say shit about what Warsaw is for people, only that Prus thinks Łęcka is a doll. Also fuck Prus this bitch was a whore and was living out of Żeromski's and his wife's pocket.

I wonder how did Lalka discourse looked like back when it premiered. What was 19th century equivalent of fandom discussion.

i think one of the worst realizations i came to in terms of creative stuff is the fact that people just coming up with things in their stories etc. as they go along in making it is far more common and accepted than i would have expected. I thought (and still kinda do) that it's a clear sign that the thing's gonna have flaws that could be easily fixed by just planning ahead, like plotholes or contradictions or retconning stuff. But apparently it's frequent?? Especially with situations where something was well-liked, so the creator kept it going, like FNAF or.... I don't fucking know, Bolesław Prus's Lalka, or various TV shows and such. I understand eg. only having a vague sketch of what's supposed to happen in the future of the story as you start making it, and only making it clearer as it comes closer, I get that. That's still planning out the story. But some people don't do that at all and just jump right into stuff without actually thinking of what to do in the long run.
But then again, even if these things suck, I guess they were still made. I can't say the same for my things, so maybe there's some method in this insanity. Even if it can result in some significant flaws

Well, I saw some blogs do it and I’m bored out of my mind so..
Who am I?
Who am I? Dunno, let me know if you find out. My name is Jagoda or Jay, because Jagoda is fucking awkward in other languages.
Im an Aries if that makes any difference and an INTP. Oh and also I’m bi. Lets go gays🤠👍
I speak in polish (mother tongue, oh how I love my country let me out) and English. And I have over 100 days in Latin on duolingo but it doesn’t give me shit but I did to many of them to now just throw it all away. Consummatum est.
I like to read. Like a lot, mostly classics and contemporary but I like a good fantasy or romance from time to time. My fav books are „The secret history” by Donna Tartt, Homer’s „The Iliad”, „Picture of Dorian Gray”, „1984”, „lord of the rings”, „Six of crows”, „Lalka” by Bolesław Prus and „Hamlet”.
I also listen to a lot of music and play some myself (I am a bassist, also can play on a guitar and piano). My fav musicians/bands are Mitski, Queen, David Bowie, Lana Del Rey, The Smiths, The Beatles, HOZIER, Conan Gray, Radiohead or Jorge Rivera-Herrans.
I sometimes draw, but that’s something I neglected for too long now to be actually decent at. Still hurts to look at all those sketchbooks I’ve finished, knowing I will never draw as much.
I tend to have some lil special interests that I can yap about. If I would list couple it would be Greek mythology in general, the secret history, Iliad, pjo, polish romantic period, Tolkien, literature, dinosaurs.
I like to sometimes write, but when it’s not perfect I start to go into a tantrum so I don’t do that often.
Yea, that’s it.

what are your influences/inspirations for your art!! like, stylistically or thematically!
visual art, stylistically:
the Borderlands artstyle obviously. cel shading and outlines my fucking beloved. I am so fucking sad that gbx themselves is kinda toning down on it and that they didn't implement the crosshatch shader they put in teasers for bl3. come the fuck on
the Psychonauts artstyle. even if I do no longer draw in the hyperdeformed style I took from that game I still often deform characters and exagerrate their main features in order to make them more distinct. it also kinda made me addicted to shape language lolmao
Team Fortress 2. I am fucking serious btw. blame that one youtube video on its artstyle. it's been a formative experience for me when I watched it and it stuck itself in my brain. it made me appreciate blockiness/solidity/stockiness in art, as well as teaching me how to limit color palettes and how to draw attention to the important parts of the character by using color contrast.
as for actual artists and not. Video Games. I have been eyeing cubists and futurists recently (even went to a gallery with some of Picasso's earlier works) but it's nothing too substantial as of rn
visual art, thematically:
most of what I draw is characters & fanart so. yeah .
however one thing I've been enjoying recently is redrawing paintings or old photos. usually replacing the ppl in them with my fave old man yaoi. maybe it's cringe but they are a very "love in every time" sort of couple to me so
literary art, stylistically:
positivist writing, particularly Lalka by Bolesław Prus. perhaps it's because I consider myself academically inclined, perhaps it's because naturalistic descriptions pander to my Biology Autism, perhaps it's bc of smth else idk
impressionism except not really bc im autistic and thus sensory descriptions come to me naturally
Terry. Pratchett. comparisons in my fics are often snappy(tm) as all fuck because they're, well, Borderlands fics, and to me a Borderlands novel should be Discworld-like. also because Discworld itself slaps
the work of Alexis Kennedy: the guy who wrote a lot of Fallen London, Cultist Simulator and also the Horizon Signal dlc for Stellaris. which is all shit im into. and good lird . its hard to describe you have to read this stuff for yourself
literary art, thematically:
again see the visual art section but largely my fics if they aren't self indulgent fluff are just. taken from my brain tee em because I cover topics or angles that the rest of the fandom wouldn't even think of
Alexis Kennedy again bc he writes gothic/cosmic horror. especially the latter. hoo doggy
other things that in general inspire me:
Darkest Dungeon. both the artstyle and the story have been big influences on me even tho I only played the game once and know everything abt it by watching youtube and bingereading wikis
the legacy of H. P. "Racist" Lovecraft. I guess. what can I say I am a sucker (haha) for those tentacles. except I do everything he ever did sexier and cooler and also he can go roll in his grave
legends, folklore, mythology and occultism. Hellenic of course since that's a big part of Borderlands symbolism but I ain't a coward I throw all that shit in there. slavic (creator bias lollll), norse, japanese, a bit of voudoun, biblical tradition, alchemy, tarot, et cetera. of course I usually don't talk about all the symbols that go into my Everything bc there's a crapton and everyone is entitled to their own interpretations but. yknow! and thats not even accounting for my love of assigning complex motifs to things

10 Characters and 10 Fandoms
Rules: name 10 of your favourite characters from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people to do the same.
Thank you @figuringthengsout for tagging me! Since it's not my first "favorite characters" tag game I'm going to play with it a little:
So there's that ONE character who's usually in the background, because he's way too smart to throw himself directly into the main plot. He already knows it all. Seen it all, lived it all, he suffered enough to have his skin thick as an armour. And he is terminally ill or already nearly died few times (or actually died multiple times if he's immortal) so he simply can't care anymore. He's too tired to laugh at the danger, he's more like: come on danger, I don't have whole day. He's wise and smart, he's rude and grumpy, all his advices are cynical and sarcastic, but you'd rather hear from him that you're a pathetic shithead than never meet him again. Apart from losing faith in humanity and despite his efforts to fuck it all already - deep inside he's still the most rightous and skilled person around. And if he have no other option but do things by himself as a main character - he makes the best of it just running on pure insolence and morbid humour, knowing right from the start there's no happy ending for him...
So here's just few examples of this guy:
Doktor Szlangbaum from The Doll / Lalka (book by Bolesław Prus first published in 1889, also 1978 TV series) - old grumpy jewish doctor full of life wisdom and sarcastic comments. When still young and stupid he once tried to kill himself out of love but been rescued and since then he used to say suicidal people should not be disturbed.
Gaius Petronius from Quo Vadis. He's too cool to act. But if he have to - he kicks ass. He kicks all the asses. With Neron the caesar being the biggest ass of them all.
Mendoza from The Mysterious Cities Of Gold (TV series, 1982-1983). They'd love to kill him in second episode already - if not for the fact it is XVI century and on the ocean, and he is the Navigator, and they would literally die without him... So he's aware of it, he can play with his privileges and their expectations. Always being himself. You never know if he's good or evil, he's always working on his own terms and for his own good, he seems to change sides of the conflict quite fluently... In one episode one of his stupid sidekicks asks him who they are working for right now because he got really confused... That's the character trait, ladies and gents🤣
Hobson from Arthur (1981). What a vicious, grumpy, cynical old man! Terminally ill, of course. You got to love him, no other option.
Dirty Harry (nuff said). Saving the suicide jumper is my most favorite scene. Yes, it's wrong, yes, it's against all the rules, but OMG how authentical it was... And Man with No Name from Dollars Trilogy is actually the same guy so yeah, count him too.
Duńczyk from Vabank (1981) - "Z wiekiem spada zapotrzebowanie na zysk, a rośnie popyt na święty spokój" (With age, the demand for profit is falling and there's a growing demand for peace of mind)
Bob Cody from Interstate 60 - "Say what you mean, mean what you say". And he MEANS IT. For real... Terminally ill has no scruples
Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) from Live, Die, Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow. I am a little sorry that she's the only female on this list but how can I help that kind of woman characters are so rare? It's like every Ghibli Studio girl with her "fuck off I have the world to save" attitude but Rita is not a minor. And everytime Tom Cruise's character comes to her presence to lose his head and get hard (he's basicly a stupid dick with legs) she's like: "We're trying to avoid apocalypse here, can you focus?" And kills him. Again and again. She literally kills the handsome prick every damn time unless he comes back good enough to save the world with her. So yeah, she have that ultimate AroAce energy that I adore 🧡💛🤍🩵💙
So now for two characters of different trait - villains:
Shere Khan from Jungle Book (1967) - he's a villain but he's so awesome. Like: everybody around knows he's the most dangerous killer around so he simply doesn't need any show off or flexing muscles. Whenever he appears each and every animal already shits their pants (regardless of no pants) and he is sooo aware of that effect that he plays with it. Being just so casual and courteous. And when anyone still needs more persuasion he's like: oh, we're both gentlemen here and I surely don't need to remind you of my CLAWS for that would be improper... He's such a killer🤣
Frank Burns from M.A.S.H. TV series. He's a villain too. And he's sooo evil. But sooo stupid. He's a human louse. He's so pathetic it's almost cute. And whenever he does something really wrong you know he's going to be punished and humiliated - and it's such a relaxing ritual of restoring your faith in humanity...🥲
Okey, that'll be it. Tagging @notasapleasure and @morulezopelforever and... if you're reading this and would like to dust off your drafts and notes you can feel tagged too👍

tell me all the D E E P L O R E of darkwood im stupid but i wanna Know Shit. wtf is the truth what the fuck is the whole story there, wtf! the everything! is so mysterious! i need like an extended synopsis with explanations or smth lol
You know that house where you can hear someone screaming “Get out! The transport is ready!” and the voice from the inside the house screams back that they don’t want to go? It’s a reference to involuntary settlement of Poles under Soviet occupation.
(My grandma’s family just barely dodged the bullet of being sent to Siberia, so that hits pretty hard. They were already packed and everything.)
The scene in one of the houses in the village, with the burned body and a crying woman? It’s likely a reference to the short story Antek by Bolesław Prus, where a little girl is placed in the oven by her mother to “cure” her from an illness and dies in the process.
The Elephants and their attire might be a reference to the Chernobyl catastrophe, as the game presumably takes place the year after (1987).
That’s everything I remember for now, will update if anything else comes to mind. (Thanks @sadprettyeyes for help

what are your favorite books and favorite movie adaptations? :D
this is the kind of message i’ve been waiting for tbh so the rest of it is under the cut because i’m sure it’ll be quite long. thanks love 💖
first of all… choosing my favourite books is extremely hard because i’ve read over 900 of them in my entire life and at least half of them was outstanding. so i’ll just choose this small top 10 out of my favourite books in no particular order because otherwise i’d take ages to write down them all.
the shadow of the wind by carlos ruiz zafón is my all time favourite book, i’ll never get tired of rereading it. this story is so heartbreaking i cry every single time when i’m reading it lmao even tho i obviously know what happens. there’s this extremely tragic romance (i’m not a big fan of them but this book takes care of it in such a good way!), beautiful language, a lot of amazing quotes and the characters in this book are so complex i’m speechless! this entire series is really good and i can’t wait for the 4th book to come out this fall (at least that’s when it’ll be published in poland).
i love a lot of polish classics as well as some russian ones but i’m going to count them as one i hope you don’t mind 💖 my favourites are: pan tadeusz by adam mickiewicz, ferdydurke by witold gombrowicz, lalka by bolesław prus, the master and margarita by mikhail bulgakov and crime and punishment by fyodor dostoyevsky. a lot of people in poland hates them because they talk about them in school (and i kinda get that, it’s really easy to hate something when you’re forced to read it, watch it etc.) but honestly those are one of my ultimate faves.
a little life by hanya yanagihara is a book i was reading for over 3 months just because i didn’t want to simply fly through it. i’d heard some really great things about this book and when i finally decided to read it i was blown away!! this gorgeous thing broke my heart, i had the biggest book hangover in ages after reading it.
the witcher by andrzej sapkowski is problably one of the first fantasy series i’ve read and i immediately fell in love with it. even tho the author himself is an ass his books are amazing with great, colorful characters and a lot of wonderful action. i know probably a lot of you know the game but i’d honestly suggest to give those books a try especially since they’re going to make a tv show on netflix based on this series (i hope it’s going to be amazing, those books are very special to me and i they’ll ruin this show i stg!!). ps read this if you’re into slavic mythology
the secret garden is a book that’s very close to my heart, every time i’m reading it i’m never disappointed by how easily this book makes me feel safe, warm and content. i actually want to reread it right now but i don’t have my own copy ugh.
angels and demons by dan brown or rather his entire series about robert langdon (i still have one more book to read). LISTEN!!! those books are amazing, i do realize that the plot in them is super repetitive but that’s what makes them most interesting for me, if you’re interested in art, architecture and things like this you should give them a try. there’s also this really nice mistery going on, sometimes a little bit of magial realism is showing up (or maybe i’m imagining things idk lmao) and there’s so much action that i can’t simply put this book down until i’m done with it.
more happy than not by adam silvera this book had me Shook, it. is. so. Good. ok i don’t even know what to say, the twist in this novel fucked me up, i didn’t see it coming and at the end this book gets super sad which kinda made my heart ache (and by kinda i mean a lot obviously!! ending of this book is like bittersweet with a lot of sadness and i’m not good at dealing with those kind of stuff)
all for the game trilogy by nora sakavic ummm listen i know that Logic sucks in those books, we all can agree on that but still they’re so amazing i can’t even tell you just how much i’m invested in those wonderful characters, i know they do Questionable things and i’m definitely not ignoring that but i still love almost all of them with my whole heart (except riko he can choke i hate this prick). this whole story is super fun and quick to read, so if you’re looking for something entertaining you should give it a try!! those books are pretty brutal tho so just be aware of that in case you’re not comfortable with reading about things like torture and other nasty stuff.
unwind by neal shusterman and i mean the first book in this duology because i still haven’t picked up the second one (it’s in my tbr pile so maybe i’ll read it this month idk). this is the best ya dystopia i’ve read in my entire life and there’s this one Scene that fucked me up for life, i’ve read this book over 4 years ago and i still keep thinking about that one Moment, that one chapter that literally changed me somehow. idk it’s just incredible.
solaris and eden by stanisław lem those are the only two books of this author i’ve read so far and i’ve never been so ashamed of myself before. like this is my favourite sci fi author and i can’t believe i still haven’t read an other of his work this is insane. his books are extraordinary, they’re super smart, they made you think, you have to focus a lot when you’re reading them because of the language (i’ve read them in polish so idk how it looks with english translation) and those small details that make the plot of those books super complex and it’s AMAZING.
i was thinking about adding trc series here but i’m only halfway through it so that’d be cheating lmao besides idk if the rest of it is good even tho the first two books were amazing)
okay that’s it. the thing with movie adaptations is a little bit more complicated because i’m not a big fan of them but there are a few i really like so i’ll make it quick.
lord of the rings
harry potter (the books are better obv but i’m still really in love with the movies)
the hobbit
the perks of being a wallflower
the green mile
and i can’t think of anything else sorry but i’m sure there’s more
