First, I wish Cocoa Fujiwara were alive to see this. It's beautiful and Bones is doing a great job, as expected of them. That transformation scene was gorgeous.

Second, please for the love of God Bones, that transformation scene did it for me, please remake Shugo Chara! I'm begging you. I can just see it...

Maho Aku Episode 7 Review - Byakuya Vs Hibana

Wait, if Hibana and Byakuya have known each other since elementary school and Hibana is 15…that means Byakuya is 15 too? Why is she working jobs for adults, then? There seems to be a huge inconsistency with Byakuya’s age as hers has never been revealed. If she is 15 then her relationship with Mira could get a little weird… Then again, the late Cocoa Fujiwara seemed to love forbidden age gap romance as her previous work, Inu x Boku SS had a romance between the two leads, one was a 15/16 year old girl and the other was a man in his 20’s. 

Hibana and her relationship with Byakuya is hilarious as heck. She’s super violent towards her and this could be why Byakuya is so expressionless and passive because she just accepts it. However, there is no malice from Hibana as she’s just like this naturally and it’s mainly out of affection.

The reason why the Bird Familiar doesn’t think Byakuya is qualified to be a magical girl is because she fell in love with Mira, the enemy. I’m glad that Hibana gave him an f-bomb and told him that magical girls fight for love. She might not talk much, but her words always hold truth when they do.

Now, I’m curious about the Familiars. They’re technically angels from heaven and they have human forms. F*cking what? They’re HOT when in heaven??? This wasn’t in my bingo card. However, their relationship with each other is super hilarious. They bicker like two single parents trying to see who’s kid is more talented.

The relationship between Byakuya and Mira seemed like it took a step back in terms of progression as they believe it’s a misunderstanding. I clenched my teeth and fist at the backpedaling. It was hard to watch, but at least their relationship still stays the same and that they still hang out. Man, that hurt.

Now with Heaven’s official introduction into the story, what sort of role will it play alongside the Familiars? We’re being introduced to so many different factions, yet the plot moves as slow as a snail at times. I do wonder what’s going to happen next, though. What are your thoughts on this episode?

what are your thoughts on the new anime "the magical girl and evil lieutenant used to be archenemies"? aside from the title being a bit long, I watched the first (and currently only) episode and its. actually better than I expected. I briefly looked up the series online and It's based on a 4-panel manga (written by Cocoa Fujiwara) . I haven't read the manga but based on the first episode of the anime it kinda looks like a villain redemption kind of story? where he falls in love with the magical girl and decides to stop being evil? (though, I do have the question of whether the villain is actually worth redeeming...) I'm curious to see where it goes tbh. Even though the author is a woman, the demographic is apparently shonen (it said shoujo the first time i looked it up? then it got changed. So I'm unsure about this.) so I'm still cautious, especially since the manga was never completed before the author died so they might have to come up with an original ending for it.. I hope this anime ends up being good. (also, there doesnt seem to be any fanservice-y shit either!)

I haven't watched it yet (I don't watch anime while it's airing, because there's too much to keep up with and I'm afraid of being met with disappointment), though I was already aware of Fujiwara's passing and the series' incompletion prior to its premiere.

I hear it has a behind-the-scenes energy, like what heroes and villains do when they're not following the script and how they interact with eachother, making it a 9-to-5 routine (think Kyuujitsu no Warumono-san and Machikado Mazoku, for example). The aesthetics look soft and dreamy with a mature elegance to it, which it's a nice break from the usual high-octane sugary sweet energy from previous series I've checked.

To my knowledge, there are now at least three upcoming anime adaptations of recent (or semi-recent) Magical Girl manga that are coming out next year, or likely next year. And these seem to be all genuine Magical Girl stuff too!

"Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc." by Sekka Iwata (story) and Yu Aoki (art) (2024 TBD)

There's also MahoAko...the yuri BDSM one with middle schoolers...

3/4 isn't too bad.

A teaser image for the television anime Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai shiteita (The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies) was unveiled (see photo). In July 2024, the anime series that adapts Cocoa Fujiwara's fantasy romance manga will debut.
