top 5 supergirl episodes?
full disclosure i haven't seen the entirety of supergirl (ive literally only seen like 7 eps & its all season 1) so this list will probably change over time (bc im starting to painstakingly watch the show - imagine slowburn but watching a series) however ive watched like a ridiculous amount of supercorp edits so im going to base my choices on the parts where supercorp exist ha!
5. Season 1 - Red Faced
Tumblr media
this would probably be the only none supercorp related yet still somehow my personal fave for a few reasons. i love this scene in particular bc it shows that cat grant cares for kara and what cat says here is very relatable. no matter how harsh cat can be at times, cat was a girl's girl here. she gave an advice which was helpful to both supergirl and kara. she had every right to rip kara viciously apart but instead she took a completely different route. i like the line she says here.
"You really need to figure out what's really bothering you." "You really need to find that anger behind the anger. And you really need to figure out what's really making you mad."
i think this was also the ep where kara acknowledged where some of the anger was coming from. even with zero dialogue and with mel's incredible acting skills she was able to convey so much emotions during that scene where she releases all her anger towards the red tornato. From losing her parents, losing her planet —her home, for losing everything and maybe even angry with her parents for the choices they made for her. it was such an incredible and very emotional scene.
im putting the rest in read more bc of how unnecessarily long this post has become
4. Season 2 - "The Adventures of Supergirl"
Tumblr media
this should be easy. this was the first time kara met lena and changed the trajectory of every queer person watching this show and lena first delivered the first of many many questionably fruity (gay) lines fjlkajdla
"You couldn't have fooled me."
Tumblr media
also bc of this scene thank you very much
3. Season 2 - "Luthors"
Tumblr media
if there is one particular scene that convinced me to even give supergirl the time of day its obvs this one and lena "suspiciously straight" luthor delivered one of the most iconic lines on television in my opinion and now forever engraved in my mind. let's not forget lcorp CEO lena luthor took the time of day to fill catco employee kara danver's office with flowers like it's a regular tuesday but oh well
"now you'll have someone to stand up for you. always" "supergirl might have saved me but kara danvers, you are my hero."
screaming, crying, throwing up
2. Season 2 - "Exodus"
Tumblr media
tada! i mean, look at it! how heroic! i also find it funny how grateful and confused lena was that kara danvers was having coffee with supergirl late at night but still
Season 2 - Ace Reporter
so this isnt at all groundbreaking bc honestly, 5 isn't enough and anything that has supercorp will be my favorite even though again i havent seen the rest of supergirl yet but we're ignoring canon so we're ignoring that fact too. i think this was the ep where kara was comforting lean about jack's death. i personally have a love and hate relationship towards this scene for many reasons but im a sucker for supercorp and there was a clip where kara hesitated and looked like she was about to plant a kiss on lena's head but then hugged her instead and i think its beautiful and im a sucker for kara leaning in towards lena
Tumblr media
BONUS:
im too lazy to figure out where these clips are from which episode but this. i love every scene and its more like these below are my reasons for watching supergirl and has nothing to do with being my top 5 bwahaha
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh did i mention i also happen to have a weird obsession with superrojas i will not rest until i reach the ep where andrea rojas exist

So I've had this hc bouncing around my head since I read one of your fics (which are all amazing btw, seriously, so so good) about Kryptonian naming conventions. I really like your Kryptonians and their funky fish genders, because you are right. They are aliens, let's get creative with it.
So the traditional naming conventions, at least in the comics, are First name Last name for men and First name Fathers Name Last name for women. With womens names usually ending in -a. Such as Kal El and Kara Zor-El.
However, Cir El exists.
And she doesn't follow this trend. Now, she doesn't appear very much or for very long. (Which is a shame because there is so much potential. Also full disclosure I have not yet read the issues she is in yet. They are on the list because the whole idea of her intrigues me. However the list is long. Very long. So if this is absolute garbage please disregard this entire thing and I am very sorry.) Now her name could just be a mistake on DCs part. She wasn't born on Krypton or raised by Kryptonians, so the naming could mean nothing. But it got me thinking.
So this is kinda a mix between traditional Scottish naming (your dad's name with Mac in front to mean child) and Icelandic naming, with your dad's name and either son or dottir added on. However in Iceland you could have your mum's name instead.
So since Kryptonian views of gender and sex wouldn't line up 100% with human ideas (not that human ideas of this are uniform across the globe but I digress) and are implied to be far more gender neutral there could be a whole naming system. So you could have:
Kal El
Kal Jor-El
Kal Lara-El
Kala Jor-El
Kala Lara-El
Each one of those options is basically a different gender identity. Basically once you're an adult you would pick your name. And there are more choices and it would be pretty fluid. And your name would tell people how to address you.
Does this mean Cir El has a traditional 'masculine' name? Yup. Am I reading way too much into a decision DC probably didn't think through this much? Also yup.
I don't know, this is probably absolute garbage but it's been banging around my head for literal months. Want some weird alien naming conventions???
OH YES i love it!!!! ive thought about ways to fiddle with the canon gendered kryptonian naming scheme too but never settled on anything concrete - this is a great take on it!!! very fun. kryptonian naming has always reminded me of tamil naming traditions (the husband's first name becomes the wife's and their children's surname, so almost like kara having her father's name as her surname), and i like keeping that with the parents names as an option but not the only option for women.
(spoilers for her arc, but cir-el is not actually a real kryptonian and is instead a girl who was experimented on and made to think she was, so in-universe it's incredibly possible that the futuresmiths fucked up, but i mean they're linked to brainiac who probably wouldn't fuck something like that up, so... i think we deserve to take this and run with it!!! out-of-universe im sure its just "dc didn't think about it that hard" but. the world is our oyster.)
but now it has me thinking about a moment of kon, pondering gender, wondering if he'd like to go by another form of the name at any point but then getting stuck on like. um... would it be kon kal-el?? kon jor-el??? kon lara-el???? am i even allowed to use kal's parents names??? but i don't have a mom and it's not like kal's my dad so??? what do i do??? and kara goes fuck it. radical family acceptance time. you can just be a zor-el like me <3

going to ramble a bit about hbomberguy, not the latest video directly more about some of the reaction to it. full disclosure i am a patron of his, have been for a few years, and became a fan of his channel years before that. i think maybe six years ago? give or take.
im maybe experiencing cognitive dissonance bc its nice that something ive enjoyed for a long time is gaining new audience, and of course new criticism. my initial reaction has been one of resistance that i need to check.
but after reading a bit more of the criticism im like. i kinda of agree? only kind of. i feel like the criticism is maybe not directed at me (or types of fans like me) but at folks for whom this is their first encounter with hbomberguy and are hailing him as a career-ruiner and gleefully enjoying the takedowns. dont get me wrong, takedowns are fun and they’ve always been core to his channel. his oldest stuff was debunking and clowning on right wing youtubers. but thats not all he is? and i dont like the idea of him as this Great Takedown Guy because personally the stuff i like best is his media criticism.
and thats not in the way some folks are like “oh yeah i enjoy hbomberguys media analysis but not his political stuff” i like both. but i think if folks are disregarding that side of his channel then theyre not like. idk how to word this im not the best writer. theyre missing out? or missing the point?
my personal favorite hbomberguy video is Halcyon Dreams. I also really enjoy Scanline (which is both him and shannon strucci), the CAD SLA, and the whole And Here’s Why series (especially speedrunning and pathologic). in much of hbomberguy’s other work, he will disagree with creators or producers in ways that aren’t career endings. and i don’t imagine he’s trying to become a person who does that all the time? i see behavior of his that indicates this to me, such as not naming who took his joke in the uber, explicitly saying “if you go harass Somerton you are worse than him”, and how most of And Here’s Why is neutral to positive, even tho the Garbage ones may get more views. the Sherlock has the highest
uhh where am i going with this. i always got points off for my transition sentences in essays
i guess im saying like. i don’t think it’s fair to just view the hbomberguy channel as waiting for the skeletons to come out of the closet. but i also dont think fans (especially y new fans) should put him up on this pedestal, particularly as Guy Who Destroys Careers. its not a good idea to idolize ppl in general, and its not great to live in a mindset of waiting for the next target for you to justify harassing.

Being in the hospital im thinking what would it be like if Ari's girl ended up in the hospital nothing life threatening but something that needed to be treated in the hospital. I'm betting he'd be a nervous wreck and wouldn't let anyone see it he'd maybe go into the bathroom and freak but I'm guessing he'd try and stay strong but crack a bit infront of her or maybe stay overnight if they let (it depends on the wards)
ok, full disclosure, I did absolutely no research for this because I'd like you to have reading materials, so it's in no way scientific 🤷🏻‍♀️
The Chair Beside Your Bed, a Bedrock and Blueprints tale
No warnings except minor angst to fluff. (Sry, the gif barely works here but I'm...not changing it. 👀) WC 975
Tumblr media
Ari can barely keep his eyes open. You're already asleep, but he just can't bring himself to join.
The IV in your hand looks uncomfortable when you tense involuntarily. He watches the tendons pull and roll beneath your skin and swallows hard.
He should have seen the signs, and the doctors say you'll be right as rain once the antibiotics are done. He still can't leave. He still can't eat. He still refuses to sleep.
Ari's mind can refuse all it wants. Eventually, his eyelids are too heavy, his neck slumps over the thin pillow behind it, and he's lost to a dreamless land in the chair beside your hospital bed.
Tumblr media
"Ow," you hiss, releasing the two-by-four in your grasp.
"You get your hand, honey? I got those gloves for you."
You wave him off. "No, no. Stepped too close to the pile and scraped my leg. No big deal. That's almost all the wood from the truck."
"Great," Ari chirps, straightening after marking the outline of your She-Shed in the backyard. "I'll go get another load before dark. We can plot out the frame and whatnot tomorrow."
As you wipe the back of your hand over your head, Ari doesn't see any blood on your legs and immediately forgets.
"So we'll need equal amounts of wood on all sides," you ask.
He shrugs and pulls off his own thick work gloves. "More or less, yeah." Ari won't let you use any of the tools, but he will let you speak like it's a joint effort. Because it is. Everything he does is meant for you now.
While he's out at the store again, you divvy up the stacks of planks around the edges, far enough away for space to work but close enough for convenience. He's grateful, but Ari doesn't realize this means hours where you did not clean the cut on your leg.
Tumblr media
A week later and you're running a slight fever. Ari only notices you aren't walking properly when you get off the couch.
His worst fear at that point is that stupid desk chair you're always complaining about. Your back is constantly aching. He wishes the company would replace all the chairs soon but especially, specifically yours.
You work too hard. You're worn out.
He knows you've had a bandaid on one calf, but it's on the outside leg where you sleep in the bed. He forgets a lot until his leg brushes against it while you two snuggle, and you hiss in pain.
Ari insists on taking a look, switching on the bedside lamp. He can tell something is wrong before even removing the bandage because it's red beyond the adhesive. The middle is warm to the touch, which he can barely do before you gripe at him.
You promise to go to the urgent care first thing in the morning, and Ari drives you himself. You're so sure that they'll just slap some pills in your hand and send you on your way that you shoo him off to work.
He gets a voicemail two hours later.
"Hey, uh, don't be mad, but they've transferred me to the hospital. I have to be hooked up to this drip thing for a few days and--"
Ari's in his truck before his supervisor can even wish you well.
Tumblr media
If he'd thought about it at all, he would have gone by the house to get you and him a change of clothes, but no such luck. He refuses to leave the hospital grounds and only leaves the building when he absolutely can't stand his cigarette cravings anymore. Otherwise, he is right beside you.
You sleep a surprising amount, wiped out by the intensity of your treatment albeit fairly standard.
It's a long three days.
Ari decided after the first afternoon there that his chair needed to be on the other side of your bed. That way he could hold your hand that wasn't pierced with a needle, and he can safely rest his head on your side.
When you're awake, your fingers card through his hair. When you're awake, you tell him he looks like shit and needs to sleep, too.
"I promise I will later."
"You're lying," you complain weakly.
"Yeah, kid, I'm lying."
This exchange happens three separate times: the first you forget, the second you laugh at, and the third you start playing dirty.
You tell him you'd like to listen to one of your audiobooks, and since neither of you has headphones, you play it on speaker with the phone on your chest.
Ari is successfully out cold within minutes and wakes refreshed and a little pissed.
Tumblr media
He lied and told the nurses you are his wife in order to be allowed to stay overnight, so them calling him by your last name during the discharge routine is awkward, to say the least.
Ari has fun explaining that one on the drive home.
Tumblr media
With a few more days of ingestible antibiotics left, you're entirely on the mend and use every single ounce of your energy to argue Ari out of the house and off to work. He only feels less guilty when he comes back to find you asleep again, and after one more full day of bed rest, you are able to return to work as well.
From those days on, however, you are forbidden from helping with any repairs or building Ari does. José and Dimitri are rangled to assist when necessary, but it's a hard line in the sand that Ari will not shift on. He also takes it upon himself to be the First Aid King of the Castle and is in charge of all bandaging and cleaning of any wounds, no matter how small.
You only allow this complete farse (enacted over every papercut now) because he looks so cute when he fusses.

hcs for gwen?
hell yeah i got hcs for her. i will only put down one or two here though
my full name hc for her is gwendolyn agnes sawyer (full disclosure: this is one of the few surnames i didn't actually come up with myself ive read a few fics and such with sawyer as a surname for her and i feel it fits her. especially with the texas chainsaw massacre link)
the first time she ever dyed her hair/got it dyed was when she was 9 and her goth/alt grandma was staying over to babysit her and her little brother while her mom worked late (she started getting trusted to be home alone when she reached middle school). gwen either tried bleaching her hair to dye it on her own and failed miserably or she begged her grandma to show her how to dye her hair until she gave in. either way gwens grandma ended up showing her how to dye her hair
also ik the website SAID she goes to a salon but much like her saying "mchottie" i choose to ignore that. gwen cuts and dyes her own hair. this is my decree

I think we should talk more about breeding kinks here specifically with whatever men you're currently thinking about. I finished read your snippets on your website so that inspired this anonymous question.
god. i have a lot of insane things i could say about it. WRT daniel and jamie. i want to put it under a readmore b/c im embarrassed but i dont want to use one b/c they dont work right on my theme (SO IVE LEARNED) so heres captain sisko cardboard cutout
Tumblr media
this is probably going to get weird but daniel is a weird guy. full disclosure
uh. god. i had a whole long thing typed out justifying it but all u really need to know is that daniel is one google search away from being a massive furry. if he had any idea how much anthro knotting porn is out there on the internet he would never leave his fucking room. he has it so bad dude
so like. this poor fucking guy wants to come in something so badly he cant see straight (who doesnt) and the only thing hes got is another dudes mouth on a blue moon. it would be a lot easier if he could just sniff out who wants to fuck on the air like a big stupid dog. a big mean doberman fursona with a spiky collar and a stupid hat. yknow. whatever
i think the idea of being a thrall to instinct and not having to navigate impenetrable social norms in order to have sex appeals to him. hes learned the hard way that he cant wrap his head around the intricate rituals. so its really great for his, uh. self-actualization. that he ends up with a buddy who likes to play along and makes it really, really obvious that he wants to use daniel like a dishrag
the ultimate torture, though: being a guy with a breeding kink dating a guy who gets off on edging you and stringing you out. imagine
daniel: i need to come in you so fucking bad. I need to knock you up jamie: Thats great buddy. If you come before i do im going to fucking kill you
tbh jamies standpoint on it is that he both never wants to have kids and is physically incapable of having them in the first place so daniels whole breeding kink is. like. a little oddity to him. something he feels a little conflicted about, given, you know, the gender . its a thinker
but really in the end its the ideal scenario b/c he gets to indulge daniel and play pretend with no consequences. its the same as if he was a cis dude indulging him. and tbh its worth it to see how fucking strung out it makes him. daniel sweating bullets at the idea of nutting in some big muscular hairy dude..........its neat. to him. and not to me. i dont care
its also neat to have jamie be a big ol bully about it too. all demanding and pushy. treating him like a bit of an animal about it...............whatever. insane animal style sexo while jamie doms the unholy hell out of him. sweet and sour both. Whatever
ultimately tho the goal is to nut in jamie and to do it over and over again and i think thats great for him. i think its even nicer if he accidentally comes too quick. all sweaty and desperate......poor guy.
(as an aside: jamie would never be for-real mean about his dick because - and not to be a huge fucking dyke here for a moment - your dick doesnt need to work like a pornstars b/c you dont even NEED one to have insane screaming bed-shaking sex. his fingers work just fine, right? get in there, buddy. finger your cum deeper into him. Jesus christ man)
alternatively. overstimulation. jamie using his iron thighs to keep daniel right where he is after he comes while jamie gets off. its like a punishment in its own right.....making daniel stay in place, all raw and sensitive and trembling......he would whimper. i think. cant do nothin but feel it. really really cute. stuff. i think
ok. sorry. this went a lot of places. goodbye forever

Day 71: Monday March 11, 2024 - "This was 32 months"
32 months was a memorable one - put a pin in it. It was a stand out mile marker. The one where the tantrums hit, and we soaked it all up with humor and skill. Personally, Id been ready and wondering when it would hit - all that work Ive been doing so hard on myself is work I was doing, I know now, for 32 months. Ready to be mindful intentional skillful. Ready to be free of fear and full of joy. And William provided a lot of joy. I likened it to running the rapids, which once I figured out how, began to sharpen and enjoy the skill of running right to the edge, but preventing the meltdown, in a healthy productive way. And taking every opportunity to practice and show repair. Finally, we're here and we were ready and making a big positive impact on William's future. He developed hard this month, and we loved bearing witness to it! And we were so blessed to have backup most of this month from Grandma, visiting from cold wintery Michigan. Some of the most eventful tantrums she got to witness included meltdowns over not getting his third popsicle or wanting to climb in and out of the car seat on his own. There is also the one where I caught him trying to climb into the freezer to find Ice Cream. In full disclosure - Id probably meltdown if you interrupted my perfect plan too. All perfectly reasonable explorations of the boundaries of his horizon. Totally fine with him testing and challenging. I can hold space for that. I can be his sturdy leadership.
Not only was 32 months the tantrums era, this was also William's Beyonce Era. Not sure who first put Beyonce in his brain - but fairly certain we can blame my Mom for throwing Crazy in Love on Youtube into his little 32 month brain, after sitting on the toilet looking at the A is Awesome book. B was you know who. If he falls hopelessly in love with curvy mocha colored goddess, we'll know perfectly well where it came from. At 32 months you flipped from Elmo and Abby, to Beyonce.
A lot of great weather this month and we spent a lot of time reading springtime books - Mama has been keeping us fully supplied with new seasonal books and as we flip into the 33rd month we're reading a lot of St Pats books. He's been mostly accident free, and fully potty trained and multiple times while we were out at the Donut Shop or the Taco Shop, he'd pop a squat right in the parking lot. Once, at Pacos, to get Flan, he sat feet off Speedway and watched all the cars whiz by, while whizzing in the back of Mama's car. So memorable.
These are fun times. Riding and running the rapids and I just tell myself to be present, keep showing up, and dont miss a thing. Its a wild time, but such an important time to test your skill. I really feel like we're setting a positive foundation for the next several years. I keep pouring it all in, and we'll see where it goes in the 33rd month!

so ive been thinking a lot about God and like my christianity and everything and i've decided perhaps it'll do me good to get the perspective of someone else who's also christian ?
yeah . so there's no doubt in my mind that God exists honestly. i really do think he's up there. it's just that im not sure about a couple of stuff
like with job in the old testament. that dude was like the Ultimate follower of God. sooooo good at following all the commandments and everything. he loved God with everything he had
and then as a test God decides to allow the devil take it all away. just to see what job does. & satan takes all his money his animals his health. he even kills off his kids (all of which God authorized)
and yeah job is faithful to the very fucking end and gets everything back (twofold ? tenfold ? can't remember which)
he even gets new children. which is where my main problem is with the story tbh
what about his old children ? did God not consider the fact that job might miss them a whole fucking lot ? that he might not want new children just his old ones ? and they died all because of a test of job's unwavering faithfulness . which God only engaged in to prove the devil wrong
why'd he do that anyway ? he's God . he knows the devil was wrong he coulda just ignored him ?? instead of letting him kill some innocent children for the sake of a test he already knew job was going to pass with flying fucking colors
like with abraham and isaac the kid was never gonna die and that was a test of Abraham's faith and like obedience but with job there was no hesitation
i feel dirty even questioning this rn bc im not supposed to have questions or opinions im just supposed to take everything as it is but i don't think i can do that
& i can ask this and people go "it's the old testament it doesn't matter" but then you have ananias and sapphira who died the fucking minute they lied and that's in the new testament . and that isn't exactly rampant in like present day but it is kinda scary
plus my mother's church always brings up 2 timothy 3:15-17 so like All scripture is still useful and applicable even the fucked up parts of the old testament that say to kill people for the littlest fucking things (not that they go through with it but y'know)
im not 100% sure what im asking here . i guess job's story (plus a million more in the bible) unnerve me. if someone as god-fearing as he was still gets subjected to all the shit he did just for a fucking test then what about the rest of us ? if i follow God's word to a T and he decides to test me by taking away people that matter so fucking much to me then am i supposed to be okay with that ??
all this stuff just makes it kinda hard for me to pray the way i used to y'know ? or to pray at all. it fucking sucks
I'll give this a go, but I was raised mostly atheist, and aside from choir and confirmation, my current university bible study group is the only christian stuff I've actually been involved in. So full disclosure, I have no idea what I'm doing. But I feel God's presence and i know Him about as well as I can as of now.
So first of all, there's 4 things I try to keep in mind when reading the bible:
The bible wasn't written by God, it was written by humans about their experiences with God
That was a really fucking long time ago
As such, the way my university priest put it, each passage should be read as part of the whole, rather than each sentance as exactly, verbatim, the word of God
Also, christianity/the bible/any at some point popular faith really, has often been used by powerful people as a tool to maintain/gain power, and that has caused alteration to the bible
I don't personally think that just going along with everything that happens to you as "God's plan" and never questioning it, is sustainable. Like yeah sure the bible says not to test God, but like. As stated previously, the bible has been used to keep people submitting to authority, so from an earthly source critical perspective, it should probably be questioned how much of this actually was in there from the beginning. And just in general being completely trusting can be dangerous, and sure God would have some understanding of that. He created us after all.
Not to mention, everyone probably has a very different relationship with God (like we've had an insane amount of wars over what relationship is the right one, but the answer is probably most of them), and those are deeply personal and connected to the specific circumstances of each person's experiences and understanding of themselves.
I doubt that was the reason Job got what happened to him, but I guess being a little to easy could be an option lol.
To be honest, there also are parts of the bible I just don't agree with politically, and the way children are often seen as accessories to the "main character" of a certain part is definitely one of them. I'm not sure there is any positive interpretation of this honestly, aside that it might just be a testament of the time. Though it's often still like that now, so idk.
Another option for why all of this happened to him, is that he simply deserved it. Like yeah sure, he is To be honest, there also are parts of the bible I just don't agree with politically, and the way children are often seen as accessories to the "main character" of a certain part is definitely one of them. I'm not sure there is any positive interpretation of this honestly, aside that it might just be a testament of the time. Though it's often still like that now, so idk.
Another option for why all of this happened to him, is that he simply deserved it. Like yeah sure, he is supposedly God's most loyal follower, but we never actually see that. It is written that he sacrifices a lamb for his children, etc, does all these rituals. But it's not really written why he actually deserves to have his prayers answered (full disclosure, while I was aware of the story, I've never actually read it. So I had a lot of homework to do for this post. I'll get to some of it further down, but I might've missed some).
I'm not sure I fully believe you need to earn God's love, or even His protection, but that is definitely an option. But what that means is that it's possible that the reason Job was tested, was to see if he would still be loyal if he didn't have everything he could want.
Also (NIV) Job 11:4, Zophar says to Job: "You say to God, 'My beliefs are flawless and I am pure to your sight'" [my swedish bible (B2000) says moreso something like: "You think you bring the truth, and that you are flawless in front of God". Which is another reason why each Bible verse can't be read verbatim. Since although those two says similar things, they are not synonymous]. And NIV Job 11:6: "and disclose to you the secrets of wisdom, for true wisdom has two sides. Know this: God has even forgotten some of your sin." [B2000: "He could reveal the hidden depth of wisdom -- there is wisdom in double measurements. Then you'd understand God doesn't demand all your debt."] These are both indicative of Job not actually being as good as he is portrayed, suggesting he kinda brought all his misery on himself (or at least some of it). Elihu also says something similar in chapters 33-37.
In Job 31, he talks a lot about why he doesn't deserve everything the devil did to him, but it feels kinda... idk. Less? Considering he starts of chapter 30 by talking about the people he disregards. Like he clearly truly believes he is in the right, but there's several chapters explaining why he's not.
I'm not sure where I heard this, but I remeber being told that the devil was originally just a personification of the greed and selfishness humans experience. But if that's who the devil is, it further suggests he let his greed (or judging by Job 38-39, it was moreso his hubris and self-centerdness) control him, and that's why he lost everything.
Yeah, the ending doesn't really sit right with me either. I guess he realised his mistakes and passed the test, and therefor deserved it all back. But like you said, the thing about his kids dying and him getting new ones doesn't really feel right. Human connection can be recreated but it will not be fully the same. I really don't have an answer for why this happened, other than that it's a really old story. I also wish we'd actually find out he'd learned.
I don't know if this makes sense, or if it's even what you were asking. I'm still learning what it actually means to be christian, at the moment i just have a vague feeling of a higher presence and a barely read bible, so I have a lot left to figure out.
To my followers and mutuals that have done the entire christian-thing for longer: do you have anything you'd like to add? Feel free to disagree with me completely

im ngl that nightheart post was so funny to experience in a different way than u intended because full disclosure i havent liked warrior cats since i was 13 but i still follow blogs from when i first made my tumblr and yanno liked warrior cats so i follow this guy who posts literal novel length paragraphs on how misogynistic and one dimensional and evil and vile nightheart and the erins and everyone in the new books is WHICH may be deserved i dont read them but ive been getting this since he debuted in the books and then i read the sentence “he steals a corn dog from a truck” in your post BWBSHDBFKBFJFJDKS
Honestly a lot of nightheart hate is suuuuper overblown to me, especially because a lot of people get their info on him from only secondhand sources and haven’t actually read his books, or they have read it but straight up skip his chapters. Like the whole “nightheart is ableist” thing that just. Never happened?? In the book jayfeather says something mildly condescending, as jayfeather does, about nightheart failing his warrior assessment. Nightheart responds that jayfeather never learned to hunt so what does he know, because he’s a medicine cat, but everyone took it as him making fun of jayfeather for being blind??? Which I guess, sure you can think that, especially considering Erin hunter’s track record, but it’s still the least charitable interpretation possible of that scene, and doesn’t really make a lot of sense.
Obviously I can’t and won’t force anyone to like him because he’s not real and it’s not that serious and in the end idrc who a person likes or dislikes in a cat book series, it’s not gonna upset me or hurt my feelings if someone dislikes nightheart or finds his writing misogynist or aw/e. but I’m reading the new prophecy and its kind of insane how people say he’s just like brambleclaw when brambleclaw is a grown man beefing with a 13 year old girl. I enjoy nightheart because his conflict with his mother actually feels nuanced as opposed as opposed to other situations where it’s very black and white as to who’s “good” and who’s “evil”.
Anyways sorry I rambled a bit LOOL i just enjoy nightheart a lot because he’s very silly

hi! i’ve been following you on twitter and insta for a while and ive seen a lot of your DND stuff that i love, like your artificer Ren.
i’ve recently started playing DND and i chose an artificer, i was wondering if you had any advice on playing one?
i adore and admire your art
Hi, thank you so much!!
I saw this ask days ago but I knew the answer might get lengthy, so I had to wait until I had a chance to sit down and write it. I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about Artificer, and it's actually replaced Rogue as my favorite DnD class.
Full disclosure though - I actually have yet to take a close look at the other artificer subclasses (battle smith, armorer, alchemist). My artificer, Ren, is an artillerist. Any thoughts I have may very well apply to other subclasses as well, but just know they'll be coming from the angle of artillerist!
So basically, bottom line, the artificer is good at just about everything (limited only by what you have prepared and available at the time), is really, really fun to play mechanically, versatile, and the class features are packed.
The rest of this is going under a read more.
Tumblr media
Utility
While you can definitely build your artificer around a specialty (usually according to subclass), the base class is designed first and foremost for utility. Artificers are prepared casters that can swap out their spells for any other on the artificer spell list every long rest. Being half-casters means the number of spells they can have prepared at once is more limited, but the sheer number of spells they have access to is still impressive. If you look at the base artificer spell list, you might notice that very, very few of them are geared towards actual damage. Many of them can be handy in a variety of circumstances, especially if you get creative! There are excellent options for disguise, flavor, defense, and support. Also notice that many of the spells can be applied not only to the benefit of you the artificer, but to you team as well - more on that when I get to buffing. Also, casting the spells is fun! The idea behind using your tools as your spellcasting focus is that you're actually using inventions you have created, so you can flavor it however you imagine. To cast the Invisibility spell, Ren has an sphere that separates into lots of tiny butterflies with glass wings. They gather around the target of the spell in a formation, and the light reflects and refracts on the wings to bend light around the target and hide them.
And then, when you choose a subclass, you automatically get MORE SPELLS! By level 5, artillerist has gotten Shield, Thunderwave, Scorching Ray, and Shatter (more at higher levels I just don’t want to list them). Three very good, effective damager spells, two AoE, and one sniper. And then - shield. SHIELD. This spell is so important to me. Usually when you create an artificer, you may be able to lean towards higher defense armor to make up for the fact that Dexterity probably isn't one of your higher stats. Ren doesn't have that luxury, because he can fly. If I want him to be able to fly, he is limited to light armor. He is very squishy, with an AC of only 14. His team is very, very good about covering him, but if Ren does find himself in a situation, or if he needs to jump into the fray to cover a teammate for a round, Shield gives him a +5 bonus to his AC if he's hit. Imagine that +5 bonus on a character with a higher AC! You could be the one covering your teammates with that kind of defense!
And then on top of all those spells - infusions!! Not only is there that lovely list of infusions that grant defense or attack bonuses or let you create a metal homunculus servant, you can also replicate magic items! There are so many ways you could take this depending on the campaign. You could make items that let you fly, maneuver in water, or items that replace spells to either get access to other spells or just to free up room for a few more spells on your prepared list. A lot of artificer can turn into resource allocation. Or, you can make infusions and give them to your teammates, again, more on that in a bit. Take Ren's homunuclus though, a metal bird he named Joule. Joule can attack if Ren spends a bonus action. Joule can also deliver touch spells. This means that Ren can send Joule in to an enemy to deliver a Shocking Grasp without endangering himself, or he can send Joule to a teammate to deliver a Cure Wounds without spending his own movement. This is a tactic I've used a lot, it's come in very handy. Furthermore, Joule (situation allowing) might be able to use the Help action to give advantage on a roll (this ACTUALLY saved Ren's life, and recently assisted our Fighter when he found himself in a situation) and often acts as a messenger/lookout for the party. Whenever the party splits, Ren sends Joule to keep an eye on them and report back if there's trouble.
There's another part of the utility aspect here that I think often goes overlooked - CRAFTING. Artificers have SO many tool proficiencies. Use them!! Talk to your DM about crafting rules. Crafting takes time and it isn't until the higher artificer levels that trying to craft magic items on the regular becomes feasible. But there are other things you can do even earlier. For example, Ren is proficient with smith's tools. He came into some money during the first act of the game and spent it on silver, then borrowed a forge, hired a few of the apprentices for just a couple of gold a day. In only a day and a half, he silvered 20 arrows for the ranger, one of the ranger's swords, and the fighter's glaive. This was right before the group went to Avernus, which is filled with fiends and demons and devils that are resistant to non-silvered weapons. That contribution alone from Ren has made a HUGE difference in combat. My DM introduced some other crafting options (The Complete Armorers Handbook Weapon and Armor Upgrade System from DM's Guild), so Ren also muffled the armor of our fighter and cleric, allowing them to wear the heavy armor with higher defense without any penalties to their stealth.
Class Features
This is where I am only able to comment on artillerist. But OH DO I HAVE THOUGHTS-
Artillerist gets some nice features like a 1d8 bonus to attacks with Arcane Firearm, but what I really want to talk about is, of course, their cannons. Their class features revolve around this. You can spend a turn action to create one of three options: a force cannon (delivers 2d8 damage and blasts the target back 5 feet), a flamethrower (delivers 2d8 damage on a failed save in a 15-foot cone), and a protector cannon (grants temporary hp to anyone of the artificer's choice within 10 feet of it). You can make one cannon per day for free, but you can spend spell slots if you need to make another one later.
I need to emphasize that while it takes a turn action to create a cannon, it is only a bonus action to fire it. You can attack with the cannon on the same turn you make it. Also, on subsequent turns?? You have an entire turn action to do whatever you want with!! You can cast a utility spell to help with battlefield control, or a buff spell to help your teammates, or a damage cantrip like Firebolt (the artificer's bread and butter) which stacks with the 1d8 damage bonus, or whatever else you want to do - and you'll still have your cannon left for the bonus action.
You can make these cannons either tiny, so they are small enough to hold, or small objects, that occupy their own space. Small cannons can be fixed, or can move 15 feet as part of your bonus action. I used to favor the handheld cannons because of their mobility. We had several combats that involved a chase, so it was easier for Ren to just carry the cannon with him. However, I recently discovered the true power of the cannons. All of them have an AC of 18 and hit points equal to 5 x your artificer level. Which leads me into...
Battlefield control
An AC of 18 and hit points equal to 5 x artificer level is basically a whole other character on the battlefield with you!! We found ourselves in an intense combat recently with two powerful enemies moments away from flanking our artillerist and our fighter. Our fighter was already fighting one, and a helmed horror statue (bad!!) just knocked down the door to the room. Ren dropped a cannon in the doorway.
That statue could NOT get through that cannon. That AC of 18 kept it out of the room for the rest of the combat. The one round where the statue actually did hit the cannon, and with a multiattack, it wasn't enough damage to take it out. Ren then cast Mending to restore the cannon's hit points. Hilarious. And it bought our fighter enough time to take out the other enemy, and the rest of our group time to get to the back of the building and assist us. Plus, at higher levels: the cannons count as half cover...AND you can make and command two of them at once...AND they can explode!
Also consider all the AoE spells and how they can be used to help the flow of combat in your favor. There are damage dealing spells like Fireball, or utility spells like Grease. Consider the force cannon and the 5-foot pushback it delivers on a hit. We ran into some trouble when an enemy was physically stopping our vehicle from moving forward, and all we had to do was make it let go for an instant. Ren constructed a cannon with his action, fired at it with his bonus, and forced it just 5 feet away - but it was enough, and we were on our way. Imagine using that to knock enemies around the battlefield - away from your friends, or in the range an AoE spell you can unleash on the same turn.
Versatility
Artificers can swap between offense, defense, and support/buff in an instant.
Artillerists can snipe with Firebolt or Scorching Ray from a distance. They can unleash AoE attacks like Thunderwave or Fireball. They can heal their teammates. They can use their homunculus to deliver touch spells if they need to. They can jump in and play defense for a round with Shield. They can give their allies a temp hp bump with the protector cannon.
Another sometimes overlooked power of the artificer though - BUFF YOUR TEAM.
Looking at the artificer spell list, consider spells like Faerie Fire, Sanctuary, Aid, Enhance Ability, Enlarge/Reduce, Invisibility, Magic Weapon - all of these and more that can give your team significant advantages. I really believe that part of the reason artificer is so based in utility, and so versatile, and so adaptable, is not to stand alone but so the artificer can cover the team - fill in any holes and enhance their strengths.
With infusions, it's totally understandable to focus on giving your build those bonuses. Especially if your build is meant to be combat effective and you're handling a lot of the front-line action yourself. But for Ren, who is quite squishy, and who isn't built for front-line combat, it's much more advantageous to give those infusions to his party members. Since he silvered one of the ranger's swords, he infused the other one to be a Radiant Weapon. He also gave our cleric a defense bump (so there wouldn't be TWO people with low AC lol!!). This works well in this group, because the better protected his companions are, the better protected he is, too. But it might not work for everyone!
Just consider your party makeup and decide where your artificer would be most effective with spells and infusions.
Multiclassing
Artificer isn't a class I would personally recommend multiclassing with. Being a half-caster means artificer doesn't see higher level spells for quite some time, and the class features are good enough that sticking primarily with artificer is worth it. However, I do think you can get away with multiclassing 2-3 levels into another class. Wizard is the obvious pick, since they are also Intelligence-based casters. This is actually quite a good move, especially for artillerist. Just two levels in wizard will get you the Sculpt Spells feature, which lets you carve out areas of safety within your AoE attacks. That means you can cast Fireball without frying your teammates. Additionally, and this would be the case with a multiclass into any full caster class, you more spells and more cantrips that you can have prepared at one time, and more spell slots, which of course is incredibly useful. My recommendation here would be to move utility spells onto the wizard list, making room for damage spells on the artificer list that can stack with Arcane Firearm in the case of artillerist.
Of course, Ren's situation is a little unique. Being in an Avernus game, most of the enemies we encounter are resistant or immune to fire. And artillerist is skewed towards fire, with its signature spells including Firebolt, Scorching Ray, and Fireball. Resistance you could actually get around very easily with the Elemental Adept feat. Immunity is the BIG problem for me because there is no feat to get around that. However, the sorcerer class has a Metamagic feature that lets you change the damage type of your spells. You could take a feat that gives you this as well (Metamagic Adept), but you would only get two uses of it per day. Given that Firebolt is Ren's main attack, and every enemy we encounter has a high likelihood of resistance/immunitiy, I felt that two uses wouldn't be enough. So, I multiclassed into sorcerer and with that got some fun abilities, the extra spells and cantrips to free up my artificer list, and am one level away from the Metamagic I need. It's a steeper dip than wizard (3 levels instead of 2) and generally wouldn't be the most optimal option for artificer, but it was the best option for Ren considering the environment of this campaign.
But yeah! There are a ton of ways you can build out artificer. Check out the other subclasses and see how they stack, because I'm sure they have similar strengths as artillerist does! Artificer is my favorite class and I hope this gave you some ideas for how to play yours!

I finished Deliver Me from Nowhere immediately after you posted the final chapter. I flew through it, furiously, needing to read the ending before I could take everything in. But even as I did I captured so many lines and passages in my head. The final chapter was absolutely stunning. I don’t mean this as any offense to writers on tumblr or fan fics but when I read your work it feels so much bigger, so much more real, profound, beautiful than this platform gets credit for. Or you, really. Your work reads like short stories I read in The New Yorker. It deserves so much more than this.
These words struck something in me…
“This isn’t want, after all. Want isn’t big enough for whatever this is. Something deeper, something threaded in with all the sinew and stretch of bone, ligament, and beating tissue. This is need. Vital and visceral, and so very precarious.”
“Want is a child. But need is an animal. Need is base, bruising, battering. There is no escaping need. There is no lying about need. There is only offering it up, and hoping that someone will see it and decide yes, animal, come here, let me do something about your need, and you can do something about mine.”
“For now, the feeling of her ribs expanding and contracting against his side is all the goodness he could want, or even need. Pain yet to be understood in all the places that her breath catches. But for now, she is looking at him and smiling, and saying something about the sheep that makes him laugh.”
But this. THIS:
“In the kitchen, he would feed her his heart if he could. It’s hers anyways.”
This is everything ^^
- Please don’t ever stop writing. Ever. ❤️
Hi, so, yeah, ive been holding onto this message for two weeks now :')
i fucking love the passages you picked out because they were ones that felt important to me too - really essential viscera of this story
im gonna be so honest for a moment, just between you and me (and the rest of tumbles lol) but i've been seriously questioning my place here on tumbles - full disclosure, i started out here back in january (woof, almost a year ago) in the mindset that what i was writing didn't count as writing for me bc i was writing for the sole purpose of turning out work i thought people would like on here - and they did, and i did that for a long time, got a lot of notes on pretty vapid work etc etc, and even though i wasn't thinking about it as writing, it was a sort of stretching and contracting of musculature that eventually changed and evolved into me writing what i wanted to write.
i think june was the first departure from the canned fics i had been producing to something a little more my style, and a little less desirable to the masses of tumblr lol
the notes got fewer and fewer, but the readership ive had for works like june and deliver me (and even my cannibals, hi, freaks love ya lmao) is so close and lovely and that's been far more rewarding - getting messages from folks that this work has somehow touched them or made them feel seen or just loosened some essential emotion in them enough that they can process it and let it move through them - i love that, and writing these fics has done much the same for me - and (not but, and) and im also having growing pains
i keep coming back to fic bc it's safe and comfortable and i use it as a crutch - stakes are lower when you aren't thinking about querying or publishing or "good enough" - but, again, being honest, the fic thing doesn't feel good any more - it feels like what it is, me trying to fit something that doesn't fit any more, trying to cramp myself into something and expect people to like it when it's simply not what they come to tumblr for
ive been fighting myself on this for a while, slowly inching my way out of fic and into the reality that i want my work to go elsewhere and trying to believe that i have the chops to make that happen - your message is such a buoy and encouragement toward that future
let me make something very clear here, this is my experience, i am by no means shitting on fic writing in general at allllll - people are doing amazing shit on here, no doubt, this is just where i'm at personally with it - ive said it before and ill say it again - writing begets writing, and without all the fic i wrote this year, i know for a veritable fact i would've never gotten my first novel this year either - but i think it's time for a shift for me
all this is to say that i think an era is ending, but i'm so grateful i got it to begin with to have had the chance to share work with folks like you. maybe you'll see me in the new yorker one day :)

tell me about your oc julian? 👀
:D!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im so excited u dont even get it
so full disclosure i only kind of consider him an oc bc for some reason in my mind tabletop/dnd characters count Less for some reason. but i made him for a curse of strahd game i did with some of my very good friends and it so far has been one of the most satisfying and fun campaigns ive ever been in
(also warning for some mentions of body horror/gore and violence it was in fact a horror game. shocking that i really enjoyed the horror game ik! also some spoilers for curse of strahd HEHE)
to start with here are some visuals, i drew all of these but the heroforged pic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^^pidlwick more properly to scale here. + some doodles of the other party members hehe
so to start with curse of strahd is a very dracula flavored campaign; the land of barovia is cut off from the rest of the world by a thick suffocating mist by a powerful vampire lord, strahd von zeravich. he has also cursed barovia with eternal night so that he can thrive without having to worry about the sun. he is also a huge bitch. here is a funko pop i bought of him at a convention because i am not immune to capitalism
Tumblr media
julian (or his serial code JL-9) is a warforged created by a mad scientist named molostroi. molostroi was worryingly adept in making flesh homonculis. so he murdered a looooot of people to make his creations. that includes julian, who contains the organs and brain of a person that molostroi murdered For Science. he was also created specifically to murder people, with a built in weapon and everything (that shield you see him wearing in the pics earlier is mostly there because he was hiding the armblade embedded in him. he did NOT take it or his armor off willingly ever.) the goal was eventually to replicate julian in many many many more murder machine robots so that molostroi could execute a siege on strahd's castle
however, unfortunately for everyone, due to the fact that julian has a once human brain, he is sentient! and has been picking up some very clear lessons on morality by reading children's books about a divine hero and how to Act Heroically like him. (this sets up in his mind a pretty clear dichotomy between Heroes and Monsters. heroes protect innocent people while monsters attack them without any real care.) so when eventually he gains enough of a conscience to realize he is fully murdering people and that is very very bad, he lets someone that he was assigned to attack leave unscathed. this does NOT go over well with molostroi and he's almost immediately set to be dismantled and reworked over this.
except, uh-ohhhh, julian was made to kill people, so he turns right back around and murders him instead in a fit of panic. whiiiiich immediately makes him break down because he knows that murdering people is very wrong, and he just did it again, and he must really be a monster if he's still capable of doing such a horrible thing while knowing it's wrong. all of this makes him cry out for forgiveness and help (something he picked up from one of his stories about the Divine Hero) and shockingly someone answers.
the morninglord/god/the sun (whose forced absence is what created the endless night across barovia) answers his prayers and knights him as a paladin, because he can sense his passion for good and doing right by others. it's not very clear in those drawings aside from the second-to-last i suppose but his armor is branded with this symbol as proof of his devotion:
Tumblr media
after this happens and he leaves the lab he develops some reactions to his trauma, if something happens that reminds him of the things he's done he'll just. go insane for a minute. his head starts spinning around and he sounds like an exceedingly loud tea kettle. (the first time this happened (other player dumped blood on him because they are weird and insane) i asked the dm to play this song on the music bot because i am a giant predictable geek)
also, in case there was any doubts about how horrible molostroi is here's some journals we found when we eventually had to go back and find something in his laboratory (lovingly and expertly written by the dm. ily hal i can't wait to play with u again when you're ready)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so on the academy: molostroi had a colleague named blinksy, who we meet at his toy shop some time after leaving strahd's castle for the first time (it went very poorly we lost three party members. two of them were only gone temporarily but oh baby. rip *sneeze* we miss you you funky little kenku.) while we were there we found a weird little clown robot dude who liked to follow us around, named pidlwick (shown above. he's very different in the source material but plllbbbbtttttt we have our own version and we like him.) we had to very quickly find some manner of engineer because while we were there he got injured and there was. blood! coming out of him. we got blinsky to take a look at him and he veeeerrry quickly recognized molostroi's work. then he took a closer look at julian and was able to recognize that him and pidlwick were made in the same horrible way.
all this to say blinsky became kind of a father figure to julian and pidlwick. after all was said and done and we defeated strahd, allowing the sun to come back, the scene we leave julian on is him fishing with blinsky on the lake.
that's kind of a rough and dirty description of him especially near the end there lol but god its very hard to summarize dnd characters when there's soooo much to cover in entire campaigns. but either way my boy i love my traumatized robot boy so so much

I went on a TftSMP binge yesterday before watching The Maze for the first time and I thought it would be fun to rank them :D Thats it, lets start !!
The Beach Episode: Ive only watched this one once when it first came out and it was so boring and I disliked it so much that when it came time to watch it again as part of my rewatch(es), I just didnt. The premise is fun enough but the execution is really lacking and I really hate how it breaks continuity, I know its petty but that kinda stuff is really important to me. I dont have much else to say, I didnt like it very much and if it were up to me, it wouldnt be canon but it clearly is so. whatever
The Haunted Mansion: Again, the premise is fun and I like the idea of a tale taking place in like, the near future and still featuring some characters we know from the present day mixed in with original characters, but again, I thought the execution was lacking. TftSMP lives and dies by its characters imo and I didnt particularly like any of them. The twins were pretty cute and I always enjoy Schlatt's performance but idk it just wasnt enough for me
The Town That Never Was: Honestly, I keep forgetting this one and I wasnt sure if I should even watch it since I didnt watch it the first time around but I watched it now and I cant say I regret it. It does feel very disconnected and it does feel weird to count it as part of TftSMP but its a neat little episode 0-type thing (even if it does feel pretty out of character for Karl ngl lol)
The Village That Went Mad: Ah, the one that started it all. Im so glad the fandom looked at this one and collectively decided that Karl was a time traveller because without it we probably wouldnt have gotten the rest of the series without it! Its pretty neat, although I do wish they did a bit more roleplaying because the most entertaining parts were definitely the in-charcter interactions
The Lost City of Mizu: This is where TftSMP starts getting really good imo. Its kind of an interesting how it almost acts as a transition of sorts, from the more gamified format to more traditional roleplay. Ive already made a post about this, but I think itd be neat if they would remake this one, because the concept is so good and I really enjoyed the interactions between Cleetus, Benjamin and Ranboos character (I forgot his name sry) but the format and the need to rush through the story felt really restricting. I also really enjoyed the details about the lack of food and stuff going wrong with the oxygen system which I never really noticed on my previous watches but really came to appreciate this time. I also liked how clueless Ranbob seemed, I honestly dont think that was an acting choice I think cc!Dream was just actually inexplicably unprepared but I thought it was really funny. Like, it seemed like he wasnt given a name or didnt have one prepared so he just made it up on the spot lol
The Pit: The premise of this one was really fun! I am a little upset that we didnt get the Ran lore that was apparently planned but it worked fine without it. Honestly, I dont have much to say, the characters were fun, I do wish we couldve seen them interact among each other a bit more but I still liked it.
The Wild West: Full disclosure, The Masquerade has been a long time favorite of mine and I was very sure it was gonna be my top one and while I ended up being right, this one is still very high up the ranking and it is the funniest one for sure. There were so many funny and dare I say iconic moments, I dont think I could list them all but my top three moments were: "This is where I keep my mail and. wife", Percy's introduction and exchange with John John, any moment with Jack Kanoff. I also appreciate the reference to The Masquerade :D
The Maze: I was soooooo excited when I read the premise and I'd be a lying if I wasnt a little bit dissapointed at the execution. However, Slimecicle absolutely carried this entire thing on his back, I absolutely adored his performance. That ending twist was also just great, idk why it got me the way it did but it elevated the entire episode for sure. The lore it ended on was also really interesting, although a bit disappointing in retrospect now thats basically over. I hope they integrated some of the lore from TftSMP into the main storyline as well because I do think its very interesting
The Masquerade: MY FAVORITE :DDDDD I adore murder mysteries in fancy mansions and I adore masquerades so yeah, ofc I love this one. I loved everyones fancy outfits, I loved Techno as Sir Billiam III, I loved Karl flirting with Mason, I loved the twist UGHHH. I also thought this episode was really funny, even if not as funny as The Wild West. My standards for humor arent that high tbh, I just liked how they made fun of rich people lmao. I think my favorite moment was probably the one where Karl was hiding in that closet with Sebastian and he was getting murdered right next to him, it was surprisingly tense. All around great, I loved it

hi! i love your jayce takes so much hes been one of my faves for years now so it always makes me happy to read ppl talk abt him! may i ask what reason do you think jayce had for not backing up viktor with the whole blitzcrank situation? ive always thought it was something like. shrugs. jayce vc 'not my problem' but i love hearing abt others peoples opinions abt this very specific bit lol
This feels like one of these questions w/ multiple answers tbh.
The easy answer:
The writing team wants to make sure you know there is an "escalation" of their conflict, so we go by rule of threes: the problem starts by omission (jayce fails to intervene), develops into friction (jayce intervenes with the diving suits, to stupid results), and then settles into rancor (viktor comes to collect a debt with the crystal, they do not see eye to eye, it all blows up even more catastrophically). Via this setup, you don't necessarily Need to dig into why a character has slipped down the rocks the first time- if they do it thrice, you're building a pattern. You are communicating to the audience that they are a person prone to Slipping Down The Rocks. The important part is that it fits, and even more so retroactively.
The "ok let's get in the headspace" answer:
Jayce’s reputation as an asshole feeds into him consciously or subconsciously reinforcing the image of "Being An Asshole" again and again. It's already how people refer to him and what people expect of him, he's grown used to it so far, so what would be the point of bursting golden-hearted pollyanna this late in the game and pledging faith in the one *other* guy everyone else is against? Would it even truly help? When he's accusing a professor? It might be worse.
Full disclosure: I don't think he knows why he did it either. He's definitely aware that it was a dickhead move, but he's also not the kind of guy who'll ever admit he got paralyzed in the face of fear (or at least not without pushing), so it's not like I'm giving him an easy way out for him here. If asked? He’d probably default to rationalizing it as ‘not my problem’ 100%. But… we know full well that he feels massively guilty about it. You really just have to look at these textbits from his runeterra expansion featuring Jayce + one of the forge workers currently working with him (Axel)

And you can basically taste the way he has been manhandling the conversation towards not letting the same mistake happen twice, even when their superiors want him to be the Head Genius. (IMHO this is also perfectly in line with how jayce talis refers to hextech as a shared dream; i like to think of them as made up of the same character putty but environmental development molded them differently. Nurture vs nature etc. He *wants* viktor to be there - but it seems like he’s the only one who does.)
It's a mixed bag. Jayce sucks at communicating and communicating publicly is even worse. But he could have tried; and that's the point of it being a tip-of-the-iceberg mistake.
