Their history had jagged pieces, none of which fit the puzzle anymore. It's safe to say that it'd be easy to inflict a cut or two with the remnants of what they once had. It isn't to say that it once wasn't special as it always is at the start.

But now ? The 'what ifs' are tainted with a darkness with no cracks of light in it.

Whatever it was that closed that chapter for them closed it tight. Yet as he watches her from the other side of the room he can't help but feel a familiar feeling. That flicker of happiness he had with her that seems to slowly be fading out the longer time goes on. It's not the same and he knows it -- and chances are it'll never be the same again. So he pushes through and forces a smile ; cocky as it is.

" Still playing pretend, Kiara ? " he asks. " I don't get it, you have the whole world at your fingertips and you choose..." He glances toward her new group of friends. " - them."

There's a mission at hand and it's so on. He's in charge of rounding up the troops and the first one he's in charge of getting is Sarah. JJ knows he shouldn't be here, but he's playing the part of waiter fairly well, he thinks.

"Psstt." He approaches his friend dancing around her. "I'm here to steal you away." There's a soft chuckle. "So, how do you want to go?" He perks a brow. "Should I spill a drink on you?" It's a joke, but he could do it if it'll get her out of the kook crowd.

Topper sits silently as he listens to Sarah. Part of him wants to believe her, a big part of him really does. The fact that he loved her and he still does. Despite everything, he's still in love with Sarah.

But the fact is she chose John B over him over and over again. And she used him - used his feelings for her to get him to help her in situations he never wanted to be a part of. But for her he'd do anything and he did ; but at what cost?

" Sarah ... " He shakes his head slowly, rubbing the back of his neck. More than anything he wants to lay into her, tell her off, tell her to go away and never come back around him. It'd be wiser, safer, smarter. But he doesn't do that.

" ... I forgive you. " he says softly. " It's in the past."

Though for Topper, it's still very much his present.

"Hey baby!" Steve greets as he walks up to the girl, sliding an arm around her shoulders with a wide grin on his face. He waits until he's close enough before he dips his head, whispering in her ear. "There's this guy that won't take no for answer, he's literally been following me around for the last ten minutes - if you just go along with this until he backs off, I promise I'll buy you a drink or something." He's desperate and hopes he doesn't come across as a total creep. He can hear the footsteps coming their way and knows without looking that it's the guy, Ryan.

He informs her before getting down and crawling in on hands and knees. "Oh, yeah, this is nice and cozy in here for sure." He glances around and nods.

Though why doesn't he ask, because if she wants to talk about it he wants her to come to him, or go to John B, even Kiara. He isn't about to pry when he's not sure he's allowed into those thoughts or not. But since she mentioned it...

"Ah, well, I mean - - - I'm GREAT at cuddling, so that makes sense." He tells her and he's joking, but then he looks at Kiara seriously. He should tell her exactly how he feels, he really should. He's fucking terrified, but he's going to do it anyway. In the long run, it's for the best.

"I always sleep better when you're with me." It's like she kept his demons at bay. All of his friends did, but Kie especially. "You know - - - I have those nightmares." About his dad, about well, becoming his dad too. "When you're in my arms they don't happen as often." JJ bites into his lower lip for a brief moment. "It's not just about sex, Kie. When I'm with you, I feel BETTER." He feels safer with her and he shouldn't be afraid to want to tell her this because he loves her, God he loves her. He adores her and he doesn't want to lose her, ever.

There's a soft smile planted on John B's lips when Sarah tells him that. No, he would have never imagined being with her, or anyone as amazing as she is, not in a million years. He's thrilled that he gets to be by her side, though, and share in everything. "And I love you." He reaches up and rubs her arm lovingly.

"Just think, a couple of years ago we couldn't stand each other." And now they were self-proclaimed husband and wife. "You know I'm going to get you a ring one day and we're actually going to be officially married, right? As soon as I can get it, it's done." There is no doubt that he wants to be with Sarah, no doubt that his love will span decades.

Walking up and sitting down in a chair next to her, he glances over at Kie. "So, why'd you do it?" He asks. "You had an out and you chose to fuck it off instead. WHY? Were your friends worth almost getting caught by Singh again and getting thrown back into that room or WORSE?"

Besides Pope, Kie and JJ - - - there was one person who John B trusted with his LIFE. That person was standing mere inches from him and he was smiling at her so warmly. . . He could feel the electricity between himself and Sarah and they hadn't even touched just yet. "You are my home, Sarah. You and the pogues. For life." He tells her, leaning in to give her a kiss.

"I mean that. I'm tired of the petty fights over stupid shit, I'm done with that, it's in the past. I want YOU and ME for the rest of our lives." No matter how long or short that amount of time was? He wanted to spent it with her around. "And maybe one day I'll even give you a gold band to prove it." There's a teasing chuckle, but he already has that plan in place, sort of. He's just in the process of getting things to the place he wants them to be.

Okay, alright, so it was illegal. . . "On a scale of one to ten how BADLY do you think i'll go if we use my plan? I mean, worst case scenario I get thrown into jail." He shrugs. "Is it really THAT bad?" He asks her seriously. "Look, it's not as bad as it could be, really. Someone could end up dead. . . This plan, okay, yeah that might be the worst WORST case scenario then. . . "
