04/05 today is my HL anniversary!

and for some sinister coincidence my bday too lol

For the first half of a year I was in a shell and came to fandom only as observer BUT gladly the urge to draw was too strong, so HL is my canon event. I want to share with you a bunch of sketches from that period 🙈

Ominis isn’t particularly fond of being a Parselmouth. It’s not that he dislikes having the ability to speak to snakes. It just reminds him of his family. But I do think that Ominis would have a fondness for snakes. 

Due to the Gaunts being Parselmouths and Parseltongue being spoken almost exclusively amongst each other, there are typically snakes on the property, so Ominis grew up around them. I imagine he was quite lonely as a child, being the only one in his immediate family that viewed the world the way he did, so I have a feeling he likely talked to the snakes a lot. In a way, they were his friends. He felt he could understand them and they could understand him. 

Snakes were not these creatures to be feared, they weren’t creepy, they weren’t aggressive, they weren’t evil... they were just trying to survive, trying to go about their lives, just as he was at the time. We know in canon that Ominis hadn’t used Parseltongue much or at all since beginning at Hogwarts, but I bet snakes still hold a special place in his heart and I bet he looks back on the snakes he grew up around quite fondly.

Re: your recent response about Draco wearing blue - fashion is not something I tend to pick up on (or understand very well generally), so I’m always curious to hear more about it! Do you have any other fashion thoughts you want to elaborate on? You’ve talked a bit about Draco and Hermione’s fashion, what about Harry or Ron?

Aw, yeah! I'll preface this by saying that the following is a combination of canon and headcanon; some of this is evidenced in the text of the fic, but some of it probably isn't, it's just something that's in my head when describing them.

Harry's pretty small in Lionheart, as a consequence of chronic malnutrition in childhood mixed with a genetic predisposition to it (James is canonically a short king, cf. "Hairy Little Christmas.") That means a lot of his muggle clothes don't fit well, being hand-me-downs from Dudley; in contrast, his school robes, which we know he got tailored at Malkin's, seem to fit normally (i.e., Harry fits better in the magical world, it's his home, it suits him). In general, Harry's fashion is "adequate, but not great," which makes sense; he never had the chance to choose his own clothes growing up, and then he went to boarding school with a uniform, so when would he develop a sense of style? Honestly, it's a relief for him to have one fewer decisions to make.

Like Ron, Harry's uniform isn't super meticulous, but he seems to make an effort. He does his tie and keeps his shirt clean, etc. (which makes sense; Harry cares about belonging here). When we see Harry out of uniform, he's usually wearing baggy t-shirts and jeans, which are the least nice clothes you could give to someone while still expecting them to last; they're also clothes that fit loose and hang long on his body (very late-80's + early 90's).

Ron, on the other hand, doesn't have any qualms about belonging in the magical world; he was born to it. This manifests as a laziness with his robes. He doesn't bother with his tie as much, if at all, and when he does it's not the right knot (Draco points it out in Book 3); since he's the brother of not one but two Head Boys, we have to assume that's deliberate, or that at some extent his lack of attention is a deliberate manifestation of something. Ron is youngest boy, he has self-esteem issues, and the way this manifests is by Ron never asking for anything and then getting sour when nothing goes his way. He doesn't try, so he can't feel bad when he fails. Besides which, when Ron does try to dress nice, it backfires; it's either an uncomfortable costume, like in "Operation Prewett," or it's a horrible hand-me-down, e.g. the Yule Ball outfit. Contrast him with the other Weasley boys, many of whom — especially the three oldest — have their own cultivated aesthetics, because they all know who they are. Ron is figuring that out, and it manifests in stylistically messy ways.

I also thought it'd be fun to show the setup I used, so here it is!

My phone goes on the grey plate between the white bars to stay stable and the green plate is attached so it doesn't move. I rotated it (and removed the needed walls) for the different sequences.

And this is what I used to get a closeup of the plant. My phone went on top of the white structure so it could stay stable between the shots.

Gaaaah, Jacob, my boy!! I’m so proud of you and so is Mama Lane!! 🥹

Ahem, so yeah, since this is kind of graduation season for a lot of people, and because I haven’t done nearly enough Mama Lane content (and because @dat-silvers-girl​ suggested I draw some Jacob/Lane huggles, haha), I decided to draw this, which is set on the day of Carewyn and Jacob’s graduation from Hogwarts in the spring of 1991. Carewyn’s graduation obviously was scheduled for that date from the moment she started at Hogwarts, but for Jacob, who had been expelled from Hogwarts and had his entire life and future wrecked by R, he had just about lost all hope of ever seeing this day. He therefore -- pretty understandably -- got pretty emotional during the ceremony. Even Lane, who’s always been so quiet and reserved with her emotions, couldn’t completely fight back tears of pride seeing her beloved son, who so many had labeled as a delinquent over the years both as a child and after disappearing, graduate with an astounding twelve O’s on his NEWTs. Obviously there were plenty of pictures of Lane and Jacob with Carewyn too...but this image was just so strong that I felt it deserved its own picture. Jacob went to school wanting so desperately to not be the “screw-up” he was as a boy and to be someone his mother and sister could be proud of...and even though, yes, they’ve always been proud of him, this day Jacob finally felt like the whole world could see in him what his mum and “Pip” always saw. He’d finally done something right.
