if there's one thing about Lou Wilson it's that he goes above and beyond when given the option to sabotage himself and his party

I've been thinking about the templars lately. they were promised honor, virtue, told that they would be charged with protection of the innocent... And then those same people are systemically exploited and abused, abuse others because they're taught to regard everyone else as either sheep who need to be lead or potential threats. Never equals, except in their brothers/sisters-in-arms. They act as the guard-dogs and military arm of an entirely different organization that they're only a functionary member of but have no governing say in. Even the chantry aren't their equals- they function as the templar order's supervisors! And all this isolation and closing of ranks ends in disability, addiction, death, and abandonment by the system they spent their bodies in service of.
To top that off, retaliations against them just confirm the paranoia they were taught to embrace. It's probably a long hard road to get out of that hole.
Like, listen. the dichotomy of mage vs templars is a satisfying and easy one, but the system is tearing them apart too. have you ever heard of a retired templar?
at the end of it, mages and templars need to unite against the real threat. the chantry.

I've been gathering all the elligible creatures for next tournament, double checking my work. And I hit the retriever.
AND THIS FUCKING THING.
This thing stopped me for hours. Because they keep changing what it IS. Because look at it, cool spider robot, right? oh, and it knows languages, that means it's either a mindless automaton (fine because it's like a toy) or it's an intelligent creature, right? Wrong?
Turns out it's NEAR mindless. Red flag, especially given it has 3 int. Usually sentient creatures don't go below 5, so it's likely either a smart automaton like your phone or animal, right? Well turns out it's made from an imprisoned bebelith that had most of its intelligence removed. MOST? Is it animal level or not, because that's down to the usual animal range but it apparently still understands language. Does it even matter, does being made from an imprisoned spirit that follows orders mean it couldn't consent anyways? I made an argument for that with golems, and we know that spirits imprisoned spirits cannot fight even if they want to as long as the vessel's durable metal.
But then you look at the MPMM, this new book we're going into. and hey look, they removed the "imprisoned bebelith" part that's been in every description for decades. But it is gone because it's not true anymore, or is it gone because the MPMM shortened nearly every description? Some PLAYER RACES got reduced to 3 sentences, so is that no longer canon, or is it just not included in this summarized version of it because they assume you know from Tome of Foes?
ultimately, sorry, not including it in next tournament. 14 foot spider droid with paralysis and restraint powers would've done numbers. But I am really unsure if this is sentient and if it could consent even if it was (since the ritual seems to override its free will). And I can't in good conscious include an option unless I'm confident it can consent. I'll take "I can't think of a scenario in which it would want to, but it technically could." but not "incapable of consent."

in toris defense its not like her ABNU friends (kakashi, itachi, shisui (lmao)) are particularly more dangerous than her non abnu friends (deidara, obito, kushina). If anything, being on ABNU is a sign that you are less likely to go nuclear and destroy a village. Though actually, /are/ Deidara/Obito offered ABNU positions? It would be funny if everyone but Tori was offered one, even if she didn't want it anyway, but also I'm not sure I'd want either of them on my secret black ops squad.
tori: i think the average ninja could [insane feat]. maybe even [more insane feat]? i'm a little below average physically so i could only [most insane feat yet] if i [wild plan]. i mean like i can TECHNICALLY do hiraishin but i'm not great at it. pretty normal stuff
kakashi: fascinating. tell me more
as for being offered ANBU positions.... i think it depends on how you view ANBU functioning vs general pool? canon is kind of inconsistent, but we're told minato put kakashi in ANBU so he could directly supervise him. so i can see minato considering the idea of putting obito in there so he can keep a closer eye on him, but i think he would eventually conclude that not only would obito be EXTREMELY resistant to the stricter code of conduct, but also maybe we don't want to send obito on all murder missions all the time? and i think deidara wouldn't be recruited for similar reasons-- he is wildly allergic to being stealthy/secretive or a stricter code of conduct. some people treat ANBU like some elite thing only the best of the best get into, but Itachi was in there as a chunin so I don't think it's like.... that big of an indicator of skill? i like them having some sense of mysteriousness and missions with heightened danger, and i don't think they let you in if you're below average, but i also don't think it's be considered a snub or a lack of skill to never be offered. lots of really excellent ninja never go in, and some middle-of-the-road ninja get offers because their demeanor & skillset are a good fit
also minato can't recruit deidara and NOT tori because then she'd get fixated on joining and he's. he's no longer sure he could stop her??? and tbh tori has a slightly better personality for ANBU than deidara. i say 'slightly' because sometimes tori SEEMS like she's very obediently deferring to authority and then the authority just dies. but she IS better at stealth
(recruiting tori but not deidara ALSO means upsetting deidara, but he'll just take out some buildings and then kushina will give a speech about how it's important for young people to express their feelings. nbd)

so i was thinking back to some discussions on the watchtowers jgy built and whole "was there some insidious motivation?" "was it money laundering?" etc etc but imho these questions are not only unfounded but also neglect one point it was actually brought up in the book about them: "why weren't there any watchtowers near yi city?"

Love how much of the real problem in this installment is Bertie and Jeeves essentially just having a petty marital spat. Like maybe Jeeves would have helped to alleviate the issue of the unwanted guest but Bertie ignored his advice in order to feel more manly and now Jeeves is pettily staying within the bounds of his employment obligations and going no further. It's just. They're so married it's silly

Something something about Buck and learning and or teaching.
Something something about Buck teaching when he really needed to be learning.
I just keep thinking about how the show has increasingly - especially last season - put Buck into the role of 'teacher' - including his coma dream. (i'm using teacher for the lack of a better term!) and how in the aftermath of the coma dream - he's been trying to teach but it hasn't worked - instead he's been learning.
I've been musing on the fact that even back in season 1 Buck has been in a teacher role -
Abby learning to chose herself and go for her happiness,
Bobby learning to let people in and Buck being a major part of that because of their developing father-son type relationship
'teaching' Eddie that he could rely on other people for help
Maddie learning at Bucks hand that she didn't need to keep running, that she could lean on him for support and build a new life for herself
Ravi being tutored by Buck in the fire house
even Lucy being given advice by Buck - teaching her through his own experiences in dumb luck
Buck making himself into a teacher in his coma dream and the idea that all these people he has helped teach teaching him that he has a place with them and that he is important
and so many more examples through the seasons that I won't list or I'd be here forever!
Because there has been a lot of emphasis on teaching and learning since Buck woke up from his coma - he learnt he was good at maths, but then wasn't allowed to help Chris with his maths homework because it would be cheating.
used his maths skills to win at Poker - but got taught lessons even in victory - rather than teaching others lessons (whatever they might have been)
Natalia being interested in him because he could teach her about death and things going south pretty quickly when it became evident that Buck needed to learn how to live again rather than be stuck in death
And now we've had several mentions by Tommy of him teaching Buck things - teaching him to fly, teaching him Mauy Thai, all the way to him being his bi awakening is teaching him about a part of himself he didn't know. Things are turned on their head - Buck is the student not the master now
Even with Eddie this season, we've seen him teaching Buck things - rather than Eddie learning from him - Eddie handing over this really important thing going on with Chris - Eddie knowing that Buck would be a better option - that Chris would open up to him more - is teaching Buck about his importance in the Diaz family - re-enforcing that he is part of their life. Its also Eddie who has had the good advice for Buck this time rather than the other way round.
Something something about 'you like to be the guy with the answers' to Buck becoming the guy with the (maths) answers - only for it to fade away and now he's having to learn
Something something about the tie to Buck and death and the resurrection and how Christ was the teacher up to and immediately after his death and resurrection when he left others on earth to spread his teachings and he ascended to learn at the right hand of god
Something something about how that is the key to happiness and that is what Buck has figured out and that is why his journey to figuring that out has had him wearing the bright blue - because in Christianity - that shade of blue is the colour of the kingdom of heaven (because it is the colour of the sky!) so putting Buck in it at all these key markers of his journey is showing him as being on the road to ascension.
This post is a mess - I don't even know what it is any more! I started with one idea about teaching and Tommy and then more kept coming and we ended up here!!!!

Honestly, even without Art’s attempts at manipulation and sabotage, I don’t think Patrick and Tashi’s relationship would’ve survived anyway. Before they started dating, Patrick was criticizing her career plans and Tashi was never interested in entertaining his massive ego at her expense. Passion and chemistry are important to relationships, but if that’s the only foundation, it’s gonna crumble quickly.
The only difference between Patrick/Tashi vs Art/Tashi is that the relationship would’ve ending with a bang instead of a whimper.
