It occurred to me after seeing of a YouTube video of a European reacting to tornado footage that seeing a real tornado isn’t common, even for Americans. Seeing one hit the ground is even more uncommon. I lived in tornado alley for years and only saw one that actually touched down.

So, my question is:

So I didn't realize I had another video showing what I think was the begining of our funnel last night. The red circle is where the begining of the possible funnel was, unless I just missed earlier stages. If this was a funnel, which I do think it was one based on radar, then it was short, tiny and incredibly weak.

Basically, the perfect funnel for my girlfriend and I to get to observe. Safe distance, fairly distinct shape and we didn't even get the rain. This system missed us by maybe a mile or two, we could *see* the section the rain came out of.

And here's where we had stopped to observe the storm from on radar. We thought it looked ominous and the radar did look interesting so we took a second to see what was up.

This is why you dont assume the visible funnel is the whole tornado. I screenshotted this from reed timmer's drone footage from the andover tornado last year. The invisible winds surrounding the funnel are just as dangerous as the funnel. Never really thought of posting this until now.
