Miaw's Marvelous Village Adventures

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a little cat named Miaw. Miaw was a very curious and adventurous cat. She loved to explore new places and meet new animals. She would often wander around the village, looking for new adventures.

One day, while Miaw was exploring the village, she came across a group of mice. The mice were very scared of Miaw, as they thought she would eat them. But Miaw was not interested in eating the mice. Instead, she wanted to be friends with them. She meowed softly and tried to make friends with the mice. Slowly but surely, the mice started to trust her and they became good friends

From that day on, Miaw and the mice would play together every day. They would run around the village, climb trees, and have fun. Miaw was very happy to have made new friends and the mice were happy to have a new friend too. And so, Miaw and the mice lived happily ever after, playing and having fun in the village.

A full summary of all 16 seasons of Ninjago (scrapped because I’d have to write that summary myself and I did not have that kind of time [we were allowed to copy paste as long as we included our source])

The entire national Pokédex. All 1015 of them. Just 8 pages of listing every single Pokémon. It was funny until I realized that’s way way too much.

Narrowed it down to the full dex of just one region but that was still too much-- (body copy requirement was just 5 paragraphs and too much text would be too cluttered)

Goes by the username “Soul King” and uploads his covers of your franchise’s music.

He does a lot of different genres for your theme covers- jazz, heavy metal, lofi, piano, music box- he’s done em all.

Whenever he’s not recording covers of his music and does streams, he very proudly shows his figure of you and a poster he has hanging up on his wall.

Also plays the gacha game, has pretty good luck but never with your units.

Jinbei is classy, unlike many of the others here (we will not name names).

He’s more likely to “make” his own merchandise for you.

Fancy tea set that is painted with your symbols but it’s so subtle and chic that some of his viewers don’t even realize it’s from some random franchise he likes.

He prides himself on his traditional and handmade crafts and you’re just an avenue to experiment with them.

He likes to design the kimonos and outfits with you in mind and the season. He shows the process of creating it in these calm and quiet BTS videos.

Really they are beautiful and the amount of love and skillmanship put into the work he does is fantastic, it’s awe inspiring.

Gabi ⚽ wears comfy clothes, like soft fabric pants or shorts if it's too hot. Colorful and graphic tees, with either funny phrases or cute motifs. She adores the t-shirt uncle Gabriel gifted her when he returned. Full of famous soccer stars signatures. That's her treasure. Her favorite color is blue. Her hair is like Miguel's. Wavy and a deep dark chocolate brown. Her eyes are brown.

She's definitely the prankster (she printed the adoption certificate for Benji jskjs), and the big sister. Gabi is overprotective with Rosie. She's her lil sis after all!. She has even got some matching scrunchies set for the both. Also in charge when Miguel or Mama aren't around. (Still, Miguel would call the spider gang to send one of them to supervise his kids.)

Benjamin 🕷️ is always on the matching sets for earthy colors. He's a a stylish kid when the situation requires it. But when it does not, he's like his Papa. Little sweatpants and cotton shirts with slippers. He's a Mama's boy (Just like Miguel). Not overly spoiled but definitely loved. But don't mention his Spiderman plushie. He's almost 4. Big boy with growing fleckles and a troublemaker. His eyes got a bit more of the red-ish hue of Miguel, (Rosie too btw)

Fought Miguel for Mama's affection when a baby and ate spicy food after. He's a menace. One of the cutest kids in his classroom. White is his favorite color. (Even though Mama and Miguel have to buy extra bleach to keep the food stains away and the white crisp.) He loves teaching Rosie how to walk, even though Rosie is just a couple of months old. He's got Mama's curls.

Rosie 🌹 is a cute chubby baby with a beautymark on her ankle. Her little waves are shill having an identity crisis cause one day she wakes up super wavy, and the other is curly. Just like Benjamin. Definitely a Papa's girl. Red is her color. Mostly of her wardrobe is either red, pink or white with roses or strawberry motifs( She's Miguel's Rosita Fresita after all) full of beautiful headbands aunties Jessica and MJ gifted her in the little belated baby shower they had. Miguel's chest is her favorite place to sleep in (Just like Mama's).

A chomper that likes to bite Miguel’s fingers and cheeks. (And Mama's nipples, ouch.)

A/N: First of all, thank you so much, this is such a cute request and because it got so long I didn't even get to the party part, I might have to write a second part for that. Then obviously sorry for taking so long, but I still hope you have a good time reading it! I decided on the Collage AU because where I'm from we don't really have an event that has so much significance like a prom and Collage AUs are just my passion now I guess.

Wait, really?

You stood outside, back against the white concrete wall of the building E where the natural sciences where located. A flyer whose aesthetics screamed graphic design is my passion by the way the green letters for End of Semester Party have been printed onto the orange background, the cheap paper already starting to disintegrate in your grasp. Maybe your hands were sweating because you were nervous, maybe because it was the middle of July and you had been standing in the midday sun for about half an hour by now, contemplating about a matter that had nothing left to be contemplated about.

The decision to ask Hange out had already been made weeks ago and every day you spend an hour over lunch with them and the occasional text had you received when the Marine Biology major had found another paper about some weird species with a long latin name, you scrambled for a good occasion to finally ask them out. The problem was just that all of their interests, as much as you adored them and were fascinated, were way out of your comfort zone and you really didn’t want to embarrass yourself on what could be a first date. But then you didn’t want to pressure them into anything they wouldn’t be comfortable with either. You weren’t exactly in the same social circles after all.

Like, you could just go somewhere and people would know you, there was always someone to talk to and that worked out just well for you but-

“Heyyy! Are you heading to the cafeteria as well? We’ll have to hurry up if we still want to find some good seats.”

As you whipped your head around, Hange was leaning against the wall next to you, wearing a t-shirt with a long fish captioned Wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri). You had no idea what this meant, nor how you did not hear them approach you, nor how the hell you were supposed to ask them now. So you didn’t.

“Sure, I was just waiting for you actually.” Well, that was true at least.

“Let’s hurry, I think they have pizza on the menu today.”

Hange waited for you to join them on the way, all too happy to tell you about their shirt. Wahoo was a real fish apparently that often was confused with mackerels or barracudas, but the name was funny.

Over lunch they asked you about your day, letting your rant about how bad group works were and then told you about that paper on this newly discovered sponge they read the last night, but in terms a normal person could actually understand. And when you asked about the other sponge paper you tried and failed reading after they send it to you, their eyes were just sparkling and they were brimming with excitement and it was just so infectious. You had never seen anyone be so happy about a sponge they wouldn’t ever get to see in real life. Just, how were you not supposed to have at least a crush on them?

Hange with their funny patterned shirts for every occasion, who was so unashamedly themselves and passionate about the things they loved while never hesitating to share this enthusiasm and passion with others.

So on the way back to the train station you finally whipped out the flyer as if it was sword to fight this battle with. Just that a crumpled piece of paper wasn’t exactly sharp enough to stand against the absolute boulder of how badly prepared you felt for this. It wasn’t like you to be that nervous. Although apparently now it was.

“Have you heard of the End of Semester Party? The student councils of the different faculties coordinated it together and every faculty will also have booths and games and stuff. So it’s not just about getting drunk or anything. I thought you’d like that, so I wanted to ask whether you wanted to go there with me?”

You felt like you sounded like an 80s teleshopping segment, all that was missing was a look at the camera and listing of the phone number to call to order the absolutely legit product.

“Wait, you mean like a date? You’re not serious, are you?” Hange laughed nervously, averting their gaze.

They thought you weren’t serious. The realization hit you like a cold bucket of water. Or the boulder, or maybe the bucket had this Wahoo fish in it, whatever nonsensical metaphor would be the most appropriate to describe a verbal slap to the face.

Was it because they wouldn’t consider you as someone to go out with? But then they would have just said no, or something nicer to reject you, they didn’t even have to bring up the date. Did they think it was some kind of prank? The kind of things that were always pulled off in highschool? Maybe Hange had bad experiences with that. People were assholes after all.

But Hange was the last person who deserved to be treated like that. Damn it, they deserved all the love and appreciation and being asked out, even if they would end up turning you down. You would deal with this somehow.

“Yes, I’m serious. A date on that party, you, me. I thought we could participate in those games as a team or so. Of course you don’t have to say yes.” At this point you were flailing around with your hands, or at least it felt like it. It felt awkward to show so much vulnerability first, but then, maybe it was the right thing to do. Hanges eyes widened slightly.

“Wait, does that mean you’re asking me out right now?”

“Yes, that’s what I mean.” After this you would be the most confident person in the world, because how the hell would you be able to keep talking now otherwise.

Hange covered their face with their hands. “Oh fuck, I’m so sorry. I screwed this up so bad.”

“What? No no, don’t be. It’s alright. Don’t worry about it.” Some beats of silence, or maybe it was your heart not beating, you were unsure. “If you want, you can think about it for a while. Don’t feel pressured or anything, it’s all good. I just hope we can stay friends.”

“Yeah, of course- I mean, we can stay friends. Ah no, I mean- I’d like to go to that party with you. On like the- the date. The date. With you. You and me. On that date. On that party.” Now Hange was flailing.

“Wait really?” You had this whole communication thing down, definitely. But then, being nervous should be okay. Considering Hange was just as much of a mess as you were.

“Yeah, really. I just didn’t think you’d ask me out. I mean I guess I haven’t really been asked out before? And then you’re so popular and I thought you already were in a relationship… seems like I was overthinking again.”

Hange just gave you the sweetest smile in the entire world as their tension eased and even let out this little laugh that you adored so much and if you weren’t smiling like some love struck idiot yourself you would be surprised. They had agreed and the happiness made you feel all fuzzy and happy and it was perfect despite the awkwardness, because it was just you and them.

“Not only you. But at least now we can be overthinking together. And you really need to tell me where you get those shirts from.”

So that’s what it was, a party, a date. Hange and you.

Lesson 11 - Clothes Make The Characters

Today’s Lesson: Clothes Make The Characters

Hi, I'm back! And by back I mean I had an idea for a lesson and have returned to impart it to the masses before disappearing back into my cave.

I've been reading Swolemates by LummyPix and generally enjoying it- the jokes are generally pretty funny and the story, a college comedy about a gamer jock and the influencer next door, is genuinely unique for the platform. And of the three main gripes I have with it, two of them are minor nitpicks (the character names are all a few letters off from names an actual person might have, the desaturated color palette makes everyone's skin look slightly gray), but one is, I think, more broadly applicable to other comics as well.

Clothing.

Making a comic is hard because in addition to being a writer and a draftsperson, you have to also be a prop designer, actor, set designer, colorist, cameraman, and costumer all in one. That last role in particular is missing from Swolemates, where all of the characters are first year college students that wear plain T-shirts, tank tops, and sweatpants all the time.

I've been reading a lot of Derek "Menswear Guy' Guy's tweets lately, like many people, and one of the ideas he brings up a lot is that clothing is a language. Your outfit communicates things about you to the people who see you: information about your status, occupation, and personality. A comic that doesn't pay attention to the clothing the characters wear is missing out on an opportunity to tell the reader additional information about their characters, which I feel like is happening here.

The reader is told that Dani is a Popular Girl and Shaye is Alt/Nerdy, and while their hair and makeup reflects those characteristics, their clothing does not. Most of the time, every single character is wearing a plain, solid-color T-shirt. Nobody ever wears a pattern or a shirt with a graphic or text on it.

You don't! You look like a video game avatar someone stopped customizing after they finished the hair and face! Which is worse!

The makeover arc the above screenshot comes from is not used for the traditional makeover arc reason of showing the reader the protag in many cute outfits, but to allow Alex and Shaye to bond more and show how Alex is so fit and buff regular pants don't fit her. Which is a missed opportunity to find Alex clothes she looks good in that fit her personal style and aesthetic, and that would distinguish her from the rest of the cast.

The desaturated color palette doesn't help either.

After this sequence, Alex and Dani both go right back to wearing plain solid-color t-shirts, and occasionally tank tops. The makeover and Dani's interest in fashion are both fleeting and temporary.

A simple change that would increase the realism of everyone's outfits and add personality would be to put graphics on the shirts. Shaye could wear anime merch, Alex could wear video game shirts, Dani could wear college merch. If there's one thing I know about college student fashion, it's that everyone ends up wearing shirts they got for free from their school at random events, and nerdy kids wear shirts about the things they like (as a comics major at art school, I found myself in multiple classes where every single student was wearing a shirt from a comic/movie/game they like.)

A more involved change would be to assign everyone a general color palette they tend to wear and make sure they wear things with patterns, prints, and accessories, at least occasionally. Shaye could wear skinny jeans, Docs, band wristbands. Alex could wear streetwear that is both comfortable for her and reflects her video game interests.

The makeover sequence also serves to communicate to the reader that the creator is not personally interested in fashion or clothes and will not be considering them in this comic, which is a real shame because, like I said, clothing is an opportunity to show readers more about what kind of people these characters are, and is an important part of character design. The clothes people wear are often not even about what's currently fashionable (especially these days, with current trends cycling faster than a washing machine), but out of a desire to signal that you belong to a particular group. Like how finance bros all wear those fleece vests, and fans of musicians wear shirts from their concerts.

It's easy to feel intimidated by the amount of history and possibilities fashion opens up in regards to character design, so creators who aren't personally interested in fashion might try to avoid thinking about it because it's easier that way. But if you take the time to do a bit of research and think a bit about what your characters would actually wear, it will pay off.

Also, as a practical consideration, iconic clothes a character wears could become merchandise for your comic later on!

Exercise: Now it's your turn to give your characters a wardrobe overhaul! Draw your characters in their underwear as a base, copy paste that base several times, and draw a few outfits over it. Try to come up with at least 3 daily wear outfits, what the character wears to sleep, a formal look and a first date look. Think about what your characters value in clothing-- comfort, showing off, expressing their personality, belonging to a subculture? Where do your characters get their clothes- do they go shopping with friends, do their parents pick them out, are they wearing a school or work uniform whenever we see them and if so how do they customize that uniform, if they do customize it? Also consider color schemes and recurring motifs.

Webtoon Recs: I want to recommend Cursed Princess Club again because it's not a comic about fashion in any way, but it uses the characters' clothing to communicate information extremely effectively. Everyone's outfits communicate where they're from and what their position is. Everyone from the Pastel Kingdom wears pastels, everyone from the Plaid Kingdom wears plaid, everyone from the Geometric Kingdom wears shapes. Calpernia's crown has a net attached to it to allude to her spider-themed curse. The major characters are also clearly color coded, making it easy to keep track of them in a busy scene. Gwen is green (and her love interest Frederick is a darker green plaid), Lorena is lavender, Maria is powder blue, Jamie is pink. The way they dress reflects their personalities as well, and when special events like balls happen their outfits for those events also help communicate the characters' personalities.

It's not necessary to focus entirely on fashion and clothes to create outfits for your characters that help tell your story better! Also Cursed Princess Club is just extremely good all around.

A comic that is about fashion and using clothes to express yourself (but also about teen drama and gender/sexuality) that I enjoy is Acception. The main character is a fashion/sewing youtuber who befriends a goth girl in his class, but not everyone around him is as interested in fashion as he is. The goth girl's brother, for example, dresses much more casually and simply than she does, and the character designs for everyone slowly change over the course of the comic as people get different haircuts or teenage growth spurts, or decide to try something new with their style as they get older. I especially like how Iris's outfits frequently incorporate butterfly shapes as something she likes to wear.

It's cute and funny, and puts a lot of thought into its details despite having a simpler art style than many webtoons.

Clothes are an important part of character design, and too many people neglect to think as much about them as they should.

Momo, his wonderful wonderful girlfriend, had designed an entire video game based on him, on them, in her mind, a working game with the graphics and the programming and everything. He doesn’t even want to begin the amount of time and effort she had to have put in this.

“Oh god, you don’t like it.”

Yosetsu’s head whips up and he puts the game to the side, grabbing her face and pressing a kiss to her lips. “No, no, darling, please, I love it! It’s so good, it’s perfect, thank you so much!”

“Really?” She looks at him with wide eyes and god, she’s so pretty, he’s gonna die. “You looked so down for a moment…”

“Oh, no, that’s not because of your present, I promise.” A nervous chuckle slips out of his mouth, the box with the necklace suddenly weighing a ton in his pocket. “It’s just… my present for you seems kinda lame now.”

Momo furrows her flawless brows at him. “It’s not a competition, Yosetsu.”

“I know, I know that, I… you’re just… you deserve perfect, Momo. You shouldn’t get any less than that.”

“What do you mean?” Now it’s her turn to grab his cheeks and she pulls him in even more as if to create more intensity. (It works. Her skin is even more beautiful up close, Jesus Christ.) “You’re perfect for me, Yosetsu. Don’t talk yourself down like that.”

“But you’re perfect.” He barely musters up the courage to look her in the eyes. “You’re smart and beautiful and kind and gracious and I… I don’t know, I’m kind of average, I guess?”

“Awase Yosetsu!” He’s not at all prepared when she pushes him against the backrest and straddles him, a reproachful finger relentlessly tapping his chest. “You are anything but average! You’re a great guy, a kind person and a wonderful boyfriend!”

Yosetsu feels a blush spread across his cheeks, but Momo isn’t finished. “You do so much for me! You always notice when I’m not doing too good and take care of me! You make the most amazing Ohagi I’ve ever eaten, you have an amazing singing voice, your laugh is my favorite sound in the world, you’re super funny, your drawings are amazing - do you want me to go on? Because I could go on!”

“God, no!” Yosetsu had buried his face in his hands already, embarrassed by the way it was flushing with heat. “Stop, please- I didn’t know you liked… I mean who wouldn’t… my laugh is not cute!”

“It is very cute! Just like your blush - come on, show me your face.”

A squeak erupts from Yosetsu’s mouth and it takes all the self control he has to not lower his arms when Momo begins to tickle under his arms. “Mohomo, dohohohon’t!”

“But you’re not gonna show me your cute face unless I make you, dear.”

Said face heats up even more and Yosetsu trembles in an effort not to reveal it - he must be looking like a stop sign already! “Ihihihit’s nohot cuhuhute- stohop tihihickling mehe!”

“I will as soon as you show me your face.”

He squeals when the tickling fingers reach his tummy and tries to escape by twisting to the side, but with Momo straddling his lap, he’s not going anywhere. “Nahahahat thehehehere! Nahahahat thehe- NAHAHAHAHA MOHOMOOOOOO!”

“Oh, is this a bad spot?” The soft smile on Momo’s face is almost audible in her voice when she wiggles a single finger in his belly button. “I wasn’t aware.”

“YEHEHEHES, YOHOU WEHEHEHERE!” Yosetsu’s hands finally shoot down, grabbing her wrist - who cares about his blush, this is unbearable. “STAHAHAHAP, PLEHEHEHEASE!”

“If you insist.” Momo chuckles softly and stops, softly pushing back a few strands of his hair instead. “You look adorable.”

Yosetsu blushes again, watches her lips stretch into a smile, then blushes some more. “If you say so…”

“I’ll say so every day if that’ll get it in your head.” She presses a kiss to his cheek and snuggles up to him and he’s the luckiest guy in the world. “And I’ll mean it every time.”

Went to Target for some rainbow capitalism, and while I appreciate the sentiment, all of the designs are ugly as hell. They have some rainbow stripes and checks, but something about the colors just kinda reminds me of a circus tent. They had a handful of graphic tees that I was kinda interested in, but they were the ugliest colors imaginable. Like.

Tbh this is just kinda funny. Not really making much of a statement, although voluntarily wearing "QUEER" in big letters is its own statement. What's up with the colors, though? I would rather just get some iron-on letters and make my own.

I like this one more, but I'm not buying long sleeves at the end of May. Considering getting one and immediately taking some scissors to it. It'd make a decent crop top, and "queers take care of each other" is a good message for Pride. A bit of a threat, an aspiration, a command, a reminder of community. Still wish it had better colors (how hard is it to print a proper rainbow?).

Cute, I guess, but again with the long sleeves. Also, I get what they mean, but there are definitely some things I would like to be cured of.

Another one where I'd rather just make my own with iron-on letters. Or fabric paint, maybe. WHAT is with these color choices.

Picture of the pattern itself, since it's hard to see on images of the whole shirt. And yes, this is just a bunch of stylized people in the same weird colors with random pronouns floating around. Obligatory wheelchair so we can call it inclusive, though I guess that's better than... not doing that?

It's too hard to read in photos, but they did have one shirt that was a pale pink with white cursive font reading "live laugh lesbian" that made me laugh out loud and immediately text the first lesbian I could think of. They also has some branded tank tops (gay pride means uhhhh... Schitt's Creek and Queer Eye), and the website tells me there are a bunch of drag queen shirts my store didn't have.

Okay so it looks like it's just an excessively green jumpsuit. The little patch says "all day, everyday, and that's okay" which is hilarious enough. But I didn't look at the back!

Sleepy, darling, it's Blorbo Blursday, and I need to hear more about Sebastian and Lunetta. 8) How would you describe their aesthetics? Like, paint me a moodboard with words. 8) 8)

Sebastian is a lazy fashionista, so he wears clothing that fits him very well and that invidually stand out, but puts them together in a haphazard fashion.

he wears a lot of button down tees in every kind of print, but especially stripes, florals and fun ones with mushrooms or cats. he wears skinny and straight jeans in several flavors of brown, green, and grey, and always matches his shoes to his shirt. he favors casual shoes and oxfords, but is not adverse to a boot here and there. he never leaves home without a jacket, even if it's sweltering outside, because he needs to be able to layer and because his favorite articles of clothing are jackets, and he has so many of them, so he has to wear them to justify it. he has leather jackets, bombers, trench coats, sport jackets, cardigans, peacoats, asymmetrical hoodie things, you name it.

he has pierced ears and wears a lot of small golden hoops but also funny studs with alien heads or knives or whatever. his hair is chestnut, and grown to his shoulders during the winter, and he trims it for summertime, but it still falls to his chin. he'll wear it half up or in a small ponytail when he's hot.

Sebastian wears gold, wire-rimmed square-ish glasses, but also has a pair of green and gold plastic frames, and a white-marbled pair as well, both of which he wears less often and when he's in need of a change. he owns contacts but rarely wears them.

in the winter he wears scarves and beanies and fingerless gloves, and he always has a camera on him even when he's not working, because he's a fellow who likes to capture a good shot whenever.

that's Sebastian.

Lunetta wears bright and bold colors, and her hair is usually some bright shade. she changes it about twice a year. in the beginning of the story she's a shade of softer mauve but by the end she's sporting an electric blue.

she wears a lot of cute tops with high-waisted pants or leggings, and also overalls and rompers. she likes a fun pattern graphic tees with pop culture references or cute illustrations. she wears almost exclusively sneakers, usually a sporty brand in a multitude of colors. she favors blues, pinks, and greens the most. she's always wearing multiple accessors, be it bows in her hair, earrings, bracelets, rings, fun bags, belts, etc. she's very eye-catching and likes to smile at herself when she sees her reflection. she dresses to make herself happy and it works. her nails are always in shades of neon, and multicolored to go with any outfit.

she doesn't wear dark colors, really, and uses white to break up all the color she's sporting. she doesn't like to be too hot, so only wears a jacket if it's cold enough to warrant one. her coats are bright colors, too.

Lunetta likes experiementing with colored contact lenses, but mostly sticks to her glasses, either her round silver ones or the bright blue ones with the screw that comes loose. she accessorizes with her makeup too, preferring bold lip and eye colors to neutral or smoky looks. she's a bright personality and dresses like it.

she always has a drink with her, usually a cold one, and consumes so much caffeine it's a wonder that she gets any sleep. she has this in common with Sebastian.

Lunetta's world is bright and saturated, full of blues and pinks, and Sebastian's is also saturated, but in richer tones, greens and purples. Lunetta's world is accented in white, Sebastian's is accented in black. she's living in vibrancy, he's living in emphasis. she's sparkling, he's sophisticated. she's looking up at the sky, he's staring at the horizon.

Lunetta is all warm blues, Sebastian is all cool orange. and they meet on a train, and they're the same.
