Look alive, everyone - Season 8 of SiIvaGunner has now officially premiered!

It may be a bit rich to say as someone running this blog, and with such deep investment into the channel, but...Season 7 really did bring me back into SiIvaGunner in a way I never quite thought would be possible. I'd sort of just accepted with Season 4, Season 5 and Season 6 that the channel had found a new direction: one that I was still VERY much a fan of, yet not quite the one that had "sold" me on the channel the same way Season 1, Season 2 and Season 3 did. I felt as if I was missing that energy of just...sheer visceral excitement for the future of the channel as a whole from the later-year seasons. There was instead a lot of per-event excitement, tons of little events to enjoy and still fun to be had in speculation of what could happen next, yet that aforementioned optimism still felt like it...missing, for a long time. And funny enough - last I discussed that feeling in particular was with Patched Plains Fusion Collab, a rip that Magolor's Shoppe Fusion Collab very much seems to be intentionally aiming to evoke.

Part of the reason that Patched Plains Fusion Collab works so well for me, and indeed why Season 2 has long sat as my favorite in the channel's life, is that feeling of raw forward momentum it conveys - the excitement of the entire fanbase thankful that SiIvaGunner hadn't actually ended, distilled into an anthem of so many different styles cheerfully pushing us forward. It was that sort of progress that, back when they were airing, I felt was sort of absent from Seasons 4/5/6 - the SiIvaGunner AI was still running things, Wood Man was still off effectively doing sidequests, and though the rips had obviously gotten better the cynical side of me couldn't help but feel a bit sad at how - for a lack of a better word - "predictable" it all felt. And to be crystal clear: A lot of those feelings have obviously changed for the better over the years. I love all of SiIvaGunner's Seasons nowadays, and I realized eventually that the prior-mentioned cynicism toward the new direction wasn't as fun as just, appreciating and LOVING the stuff to come out from the new seasons for the excellence that they were. And funny enough, I feel like that exact mindset is exactly what made Season 7 work so well for me.

Wheras Season 2 is one I remember for its feeling of constantly moving things forward at a rocket-speed pace, Season 7 excels by doing the complete opposite - the Year of Grand Dad is, at almost every possible turn, defined by its sense of self-celebration, a sort of "Sonic Generations"-type of tribute to the entire channel's life. Be it with RIP² as covered in SING A SONG ABOUT HOPES AND DREAMS, the entire incredible April Fools event I've alluded to within Violet Snow Memories, a newfound sense of chaos clearly inspired by Season 1 as shown in Hidden Headtoilets (skibidi toree 2) - yet with Seasons 4/5/6s newfound touch for genuine quality arrangements as found in rips like Forest of Tears. And, atop it all, the long-awaited continuation of the storyline last progressed back in Season 2 with the Christmas Comeback Crisis' eleventh episode. With such an incredible smörgåsbord of content on offer, it feels damn near impossible for me not to consider Season 7 my all-time new favorite.

And that optimism for the Season, that optimism for the future, is why Magolor's Shoppe Fusion Collab struck such a chord with me, with its release just a few days ago. With Season 7's ending, the status quo of the channel has been fundamentally altered in a way it hasn't truly been in a long while. For the first time ever, the long-present side character "Joke-Explainer™ 7000" is in full charge of the channel - her most prominent role ever despite having been around since all the way back in Season 1. I'll likely be dedicating another Season 8 post in the future to talking about her in particular with the same level of detail I did back in Vote Responsibly!!, but the context I'll provide for now is that her theme song, Magolor's Shoppe, has been a familiar, comforting tune to many a SiIvaGunner viewer since way back in Season 2. To see Patched Plains Fusion Collab not only get a spiritual successor, but one building upon a character and theme we've long grown attached to, means something so much to me and so many others. The added visuals, of her doing her duty with adorable Kirby-themed artwork as textboxes, are truly the cherry on top of an amazing collab.

From referencing the very beginnings of the channel with an initial arrangement using Pokémon Ruby, to using familiar-yet-infrequent sources such as Thwomp Volcano and Snail's House (jokes "worth explaining", so to speak!), to perhaps even hinting at what jokes are to become even more frequent in Season 8, such as the GOAT of all new jokes I Show Meat - I was long anticipating what the official premiere of Season 8 would be, and Magolor's Shoppe Fusion Collab was everything I never knew I wanted. My excitement for Season 8 is perhaps higher than for any other Season in the channel's long history, and I can't wait to get to share that excitement with all of you.

I recently made a physical appearance in one of SiIvaGunner’s most ambitious projects yet: the Shop Fusion Collab! I dressed up as the Shopkeeper from The Messenger, and even printed out some of the upgrades from the game!

In order to transition from the previous Crypt of the Necrodancer × The Home Depot part, I was tasked with producing film of a customer watching the collab on their phone before they put it away to purchase the upgrades at an actual Home Depot. Here’s the pre-production footage:

Alongside that, I made two audio portions as well.

File Select Fusion Collab

The last post made me nostalgic for Season 1's ending, so fuck it, here's another rip from back then - the File Select Fusion Collab, a rip with close to 20 creators involved. What a "Fusion Collab" entails has changed quite a fair bit over the years, as the collaborations have grown larger in size with each year. Nowadays, they now tend to focus on individual artists rendering a specific track in their own style across a longer video, such as with Season 2's Wood Man Fusion Collab. But with Season 1, the meaning was a lot more nebulous - they were almost all made under the direction of tunedlink (used to go by "toonlink" and "toonlinkirl"), and were made more in the style of YTPMVs, having a base song to build off of with an everchanging barrage of styles and sources intermingling at once.

These were released every now and then over the course of Season 1 and were always appreciated, yet today's choice in particular stands out among them. Being released during what was effectively presented as the ending of the channel, it has a unique kind of emotional baggage to it, it leans into celebrating the entire legacy of the channel and all of its inside jokes. The full-circle moment of getting Joel Vinesauce himself to narrate a section in the middle of the track was perfect - the person whose joke got the entire channel started, now gets invited to formally close it out, with a speech still very much rooted in that niche joke culture SiIva itself thrives in. And it just keeps going in that direction - the rip builds in a congratulatory, yet bittersweet way to truly signal that the channel is about to end, a giant thank-you letter to the entire community that had been fostered over the channel's small 9-month lifespan.

Of course, its rendered a little bit moot by the channel...not ending, which some folks are still bitter about. Yet I still think this rip works wonders as part of a sendoff to the original era of SiIvaGunner - we're never going to get anything like Season 1 again, and I've grown to accept that.

The show must go on, and we move now from yesterday toward a happier little tale. Wheras I grieved over not getting to know enough about R.L.99 in Through the F​-​F​-​Fire and the F​-​F​-​Flames, today's rip sort of explores the opposite journey. Because in the narrow view of the SiIvaGunner community that exists within its comment sections, it was impossible not to recognize Emm Bee Sea.

With videos as frequent as those on the SiIvaGunner channel, there's bound to be just as many different kinds of comment sections, each rip its own little hub of discussion. There's the funny ones, like the comments to :3 being filled with other people reciprocating the same kitty emoticon, there's ones from more recent rips wherin people are still trying to discern what the joke is, enjoying the music althesame, there's ones where people remark on and discuss the absurdity of the channel's lore like on A love letter to this wonderful community and my amazing friends...and honestly, Staff Roll (SM64) Fusion just so happens to hold a lot in common with that last example in particular. Amidst all these comments sections, you would start to recognize regulars, people who obviously knew their stuff from having watched the channel for so long - people like New Guy, and like Emm Bee Sea.

Its not even as if I can pinpoint any specific date that I started realizing how often Emm Bee Sea was showing up, but eventually she just became someone you expected to see, always wearing the same recognizable profile picture of Maki Love Live. And like, it obviously isn't a very substantial connection, but...there WAS a connection there, one that made the realization that she was now full-on contributing to the channel hit more than it otherwise would have. And even three years later, Staff Roll (SM64) Fusion sits pinned on Emm Bee Sea's profile as her proudest work. In my eyes, its easy to see why.

We've covered Fusion Collabs on here before - File Select Fusion Collab, Balcony Fusion Collab, Bramble Blast Collab - they're a mainstay of the channel put together as loveletters by a group within the channel. But by that metric, and indeed by its own title, Staff Roll (SM64) Fusion doesn't technically fit the bill - as you can see at the top of the post, Emm Bee Sea made the audio entirely on her own, covering one and a half dozen styles across the track's entire runtime. A task that's usually divided up across multiple rippers for projects like this was taken on by this one ripper alone - yet all the styles, from MOTHER 3 to Kirby's Dream Land 3 to Super Mario Sunshine, are incorporated so seamlessly, never feeling as if corners are being cut. It's effectively a tribute to both Super Mario 64 and the SiIvaGunner channel itself in that way, a tribute to the very idea of fusion collabs, set to the credits theme of one of the channel's most-ripped games.

Staff Roll (SM64) Fusion delivers exactly what it promises on the tin, as a befitting celebration to Super Mario 64's twenty-fifth anniversary, yet it's stuck with me in some special way for just how well the styles chosen all fit the source track. So many of them, from Mario Party to Ghost Trick to the Mii Channel, have a sort of silly, Bossa Nova lightheartedness to them, that fit the Super Mario 64 Staff Roll theme like a glove - althewhile taking such good advantage of all their unique soundscapes. It reminds me of a rip like Aquadial, where an otherwise so simple concept is elevated to great heights by just how immaculate the vibes become through the instrumental style chosen. It made me immensely happy to see Emm Bee Sea cherish this rip as much as I still do, and she's right to be proud of it.

For those that don't already know, Toni Crumblecomb is the fusion between my Sugar Rush OC Theresa Truffla Treat and @nintendoneko64's Sugar Rush OC Honey Buns.

Toni's appearance can be found right here!

This fusion couldn't be any more perfect, since these two are such loving and caring gals! The two combined are especially proper in their mannerisms and get up.

Toni is slightly older than some of the other Sugar Rush fusions thus far since Theresa is one of few adults in the sugary land, but that's ok.

Theresa's theme is based around bite-sized chocolates [although she herself is german, her theme isn't limited to chocolates specifically from Germany]; Honey Buns' theme is honey based products. Their fusion's theme is chocolate-dipped honeycomb!

Toni's thick and wavy hair is blonde with white and brown stripes flecking her hair. Her eyes have thick, pretty eyelashes and central heterochromia, with the inner color leaning more brown and the outer color of the eyes being a lovely golden color. They also have fair skin with a lovely pink blush.

And I believe that is that :3

Rips Are Forever

A celebratory track in many ways - the lead track of Volume V, and the last song in the Doki Doki soundtrack for the SiIva team to rip, its clear a lot of effort went into the rip from all different collaborators. It's a typical old-school fusion collab, a "meme medley" as some in the fanbase have dubbed it, featuring in-jokes from the channel's very conception as well as ones that have only recently debuted. All set to a beat of lighthearted bounciness and some seriously well done tone shifts! Though not as emotionally charged or full-on stacked as equivalents from Season 2 or 3, its a track oozing with love for the SiIva fanbase and an ongoing surprise to listen to, althewhile being a fun listen throughout!
