Captain Swan Spooky Season/Autumnal Bingo Entry: "Coming Back on the Wind"
Tumblr media
Summary: When a sudden storm blows up while Killian, Emma, and their family are out in Storybrooke's wood camping, they find shelter and Killian tells an almost-forgotten tale to pass the time...
Author's Notes: Thanks to @hollyethecurious for the lovely bingo board to play with! This is the first entry I have managed to create (hopefully there will be more to come before Autumn gets away from me entirely!) for the prompt "stormy seas"
Takes place in a post-s6 future where Killian and Emma have Hope and twin boys as well, Henry stayed with Violet and didn't go on adventures in other realms, and Emma's little brother is named Leo instead of Neal!
** Also available on AO3 if that's your preference**
"Coming Back on the Wind"
by: @snowbellewells
Outside the hunter’s cabin in the forest bordering Storybrooke, the rain splashed wetly against the windowpane. The torrents of water pouring down from the sky showed no sign of letting up anytime soon. Though he would have preferred they have made it all the way back home from their weekend camping excursion, Killian looked out the window without any true sense of alarm as the branches swayed wildly and the wind moaned, but they remained safe and dry in the log structure which was proving admirably sound - if rather small for their extended crew. The ground might grow soggy and some branches might fall, but it was merely an October storm, not the sort of maelstrom that had once made him cower in the corner of his bunk on Silver’s ship as the waves rolled and he feared the vessel would sink before the dawn.
Turning from his vantage point before the sink in the small kitchen area, Killian’s eyes surveyed the rest of the cabin to find his family and their guests gathered in the open living area around the crackling fireplace, which he had watched Emma light with a mere flex of her fingers. It mattered not that they had been married nearly seven years now, nor how often he had seen his wife avert tragedy and summon marvels into existence; he was still in awe of her, and he often found himself watching her with his breath stolen away, struck speechless by his Swan and all that she was.
His gaze was drawn to her once again as he ascertained that all were well and accounted for. Emma was bustling about to bring Hope her stuffed crocodile (a gift from Belle and young Gideon which entertained everyone else simply for how much Killian grumbled about it), bringing a throw blanket for Henry’s lovely girlfriend to drape over her legs where she was curled up against Henry on the sofa, and then she settled too, pulling their twins onto her lap as she did. Her younger brother Leo, now a bright and cheerful preteen with his father’s blonde hair and chiseled chin but his mother and sister’s brightly shining green eyes, along with Gideon Gold, almost eight now, were also seated within the fireside huddle, having been happy to go on an outdoor adventure with the Jones crew and give their respective parents a night off. When she asked who wanted hot chocolate with cinnamon, there was a lively, unanimous chorus of approval that drowned all sound of the wind and rain outdoors, and had Killian chuckling and shaking his head even from across the room.
“I would think you might have already known the answer to that question, Love,” he playfully chided.
Shooting him a scoff and a mischievous wink, Emma swirled her hand in the air once more and a perfect mug of cocoa, topped with whipped cream and cinnamon appeared in the hands of all but him, eliciting squeals of surprise and delight from the younger children. Gideon in particular wriggled with excitement at the prospect of such a sweet treat. Killian knew that Belle favored tea and healthy snacks and seriously doubted that liquid chocolate was on the boy’s usual menu.
Thankfully, they hadn’t been far from the old, abandoned cabin when the storm had blown up unexpectedly, and they had managed to get themselves and their things inside the shelter before being truly drenched. Still, Killian reckoned it was wise of Emma to make sure their charges were warmed by the fire and set with the hot drinks as well - though he couldn’t resist needling her a bit for it.
Still, his own insides warmed at the cozy feeling of belonging he had in a cabin in the stormy Maine woods. He had never truly known such peace until these last few of his uncounted years of life, only since meeting Emma and their starting their own small family. The contentment spread throughout his being so completely that it seemed to pour from his fingers and toes; Killian could only draw nearer to his loved ones to drink in the moment. Henry glanced up from where he had been adoringly studying Violet’s profile and gave his stepdad a knowing look as he lowered himself to sit by his Savior’s side. And he could only sheepishly acknowledge the lad’s playful glance. Henry knew the man his mother had married could never stay far from her, always drawn like the strongest of magnets - True Love at its finest.
Soon all of the children, and Emma as well, were happily sipping their decadent drinks and savoring the warmth as it traveled down their throats and soothed their stomachs pleasantly. Hope lowered her mug slightly, only to reveal a dollop of whipped cream on the tip of her pert little nose.
“You’ve missed a taste, lovey,” Killian murmured, the affection glowing in his eyes as he reached out to swipe the creamy topping form her face and pop it into his own mouth.
“Papa! That was mine!” Hope squealed, giggling even as she did so, but hopping to her feet, little fists planted on her hips and the intriguing near-turquoise of her eyes - a perfect blend of his blue and Emma’s green - flashing with playful pique.
“Ah, but I’m a pirate, little sparrow,” he replied good naturedly, using one of his favorite pet names for her. “You’d best carefully guard your prizes when a pirate’s about.”
“But I’m your pirate princess, remember?” Hope wheedled, flopping dramatically against her father’s chest where Killian willingly wrapped her in his arms. “You shouldn’t steal from me!”
Emma burst out with a guffaw at that comeback from their precocious five-year-old. Nudging him with an elbow in the side, she added, “Kid’s got you there, Babe.”
Killian winked back at his wife before turning playfully repentant eyes on his daughter. “A thousand apologies, your Highness,” he offered humbly, with an exaggerated bob of the head for a sort of seated bow. “To what punishment do you sentence me?”
Hope’s brow furrowed as if she were deep in thought, tilting her head while she studied first her father, then turned to consider both her friend Gideon and her younger twin brothers with a mischievous smirk that rivalled Killian’s own. All three boys nodded eagerly, seeming to know exactly what their pixie ringleader was thinking without exchanging a single word.
Henry snorted in amusement at the proceedings, loving that his baby sister could wrap both Storybrooke’s Savior and the fearsome pirate Captain Hook around her little finger with such ease.
“You have to tell a pirate story!” Hope declared with impish glee, clapping her hands in delight while the twins bounced on their mother’s knees and cheered excitedly. “And if we don’t think it’s good enough, then you walk the plank!” she crowed.
“Yes, please, a story!” Gideon chorused from his spot between Hope and her youthful uncle, his intelligent eyes alight and enthralled at the mere suggestion, loving a good tale every bit as much as his mother did. Belle never could resist listening to a well-spun yarn, and seeing that her only child took after his dear, goodhearted friend in this way especially - her most leading trait - never failed to touch Killian’s heart. Though Belle and Gold might still share a home, and though they remained married, her trust had been broken one too many times for even her generous faith to be fully restored. They were meant to be True Loves, and the emotion remained, but it was bruised and trampled like the rose of their famous tale, far too long past its wilting to salvage. She would never deprive the old Crocodile of another son, not after how long he had sought Neal, how bitterly he had regretted failing him, and then lost him to death anyway, but they kept a brittle distance in their home. Belle found her happiness in her son, her friends, and her books, and Gideon blossomed mostly under her care - for which Killian knew the lad was all the better.
Hanging his head, Killian feigned reluctance at having to provide entertainment, though in truth, he had known that tales of his pirating days would be the decree as soon as he had seen that particular gleam in his daughter’s eye. As Emma often lamented wryly, ‘Our daughter is entirely too entranced by the idea of pillaging and plundering.’ Reaching out to gently tap her chin with the curve of his hook, he pulled Hope into his lap again, tickling her stomach once he had her in his clutches until she cried for mercy.
Once she was sprawled across his legs heaving for breath, Killian nodded his agreement. “You wish is my command, Princess Hope,” he replied. “A story you shall have.”
A whole chorus of cheers rang out from all their younger charges, and in truth, even Henry and Violet’s faces shone with interest. To his delight, even Emma moved slightly closer and leaned over to rest her head on his shoulder, as if she were settling in for the show. He felt a sort of pride that he could grant such pleasure with his storytelling.
Pausing dramatically, he watched as Leo leaned easily back against the couch, cradling his mug in his hands, ready to savor the last of his cocoa and listen contentedly. Gideon scooted right up before Killian until his knobby eight-year-old knees touched the pirate’s own, eyes wide and breath practically held so as not to miss a word. Hope, for her part, settled on his lap as if it were her throne, somehow managing to look both supremely self-satisified and guilelessly eager, gazing up into her papa’s face as her little fingers clutched at the charms of his necklace the way they often did when she truly settled in to rest. Little Liam David and Westley Graham, just barely walking now, were equally cuddled up against Emma, and a pang went through him, taking in the whole scene as he drew a deep breath to begin. It did his heart good to see their children so comfortable, at ease and certain of their safety and in the knowledge that they were loved. That was as it should be. But he had been only a year or two older than Gideon was now when all he had known of his safe and familiar home had been lost to him. He hadn’t found such security again for so long it had nearly vanished, forgotten, in the recesses of his mind. Something long cracked and aching was mended in seeing that his own children would never face such doubt and fear.
Closing his eyes for a moment, Killian gathered his thoughts. The room went still as his listeners ceased talking and moving about, focused on him intently. He could again hear the wind whistling outside the little cabin, the rain slapping in sheets against the window glass and the almost soothing patter of it upon the roof over their heads. If he tried, he could just conjure up the sensation of rocking back and forth, carried on turbulent waves - could take himself back to the time when he was a boy at sea. Then he began to speak.
“Once upon a time, long before I was the famed pirate captain you see before you,” Killian intoned, letting his voice drop a bit lower and employing a lyrical rhythm. “I was a young lad who could barely be called a cabin boy, on the ship of another pirate - the dastardly Long John Silver.”
The little boys reacted with shivers and gasps, just as he had expected. Emma, who had of course heard this story with much less dramatic flair, in the tone of an agonized confession when they hid themselves away after his return from the Underworld. They had bared the last of their secrets and all of their souls once and for all and bound themselves back together again. Killian felt her hand flutter lightly to rest upon his own, and he squeezed it briefly in reassurance, letting her known that he was alright. This was a much less raw and bleeding version of events, peeled back to reveal the little good that there had been, even in those awful times.
“Aye, you’re right to be alarmed, me mateys,” Killian warned, waggling his dark brows at them with playful aplomb. “Silver was indeed a ruthless villain - and he ran his ship with little care for youngsters aboard who might be hungry, injured… or frightened of storms.”
He swept his hand out before him, illustrating the expanse of rolling waves under a dark night sky lit at alarmingly frequent intervals by bright, wicked forks of lightning. His audience was every bit as rapt as he had intended, allowing Killian only a moment for a sidelong glance at Emma with a twinkle in his eye.
“That stormy night, all but the night’s watch were in their bunks, and the lad knew he would find no sympathy from any quarter at any rate. His older brother was on the ship with him, but that young man was the only one who showed the boy any consideration, and he was fast asleep, having already put in what would be a hard day’s work for a full grown man, much less a stripling of fourteen. And so, the boy huddled in the corner of his small bunk, crowding against the wall and trying to block out the booming claps of thunder with hands pressed over his ears, willing his stomach not to turn as they were rolled up, down, and sideways by the vicious swells.”
Hope snuggled deeper into his embrace, seeking comfort for herself, empathetic little siren that she was, and unknowingly grounding him in the present, soothing the long scabbed-over wounds this story pricked. As though somehow sensing the boy from the story was closer than its teller let on, Killian also felt the feather-light brush of young Gideon’s fingers come to rest on his knee, offering silent support in his own timid way. He was hardly privy to what his dear friend Belle told her son about his past history or the harsh beginnings he’d weathered early in life, but he sensed in that moment that Hope’s unlikely playmate knew the frightened youth of long ago was now the man seated before him. And he wanted to bolster him in a difficult moment.
It was enough to have Killian swallowing back a lump in his throat. Meeting the child’s searching gaze, Killian offered a smile and nod of the head in unspoken gratitude, to which Gideon beamed and patted his knee with more confidence.
“Though the boy tried to remain still,” Killian continued solemnly, “the storm did not let up. Instead it raged harder until he was sure he would be thrown from his berth to the floor and that the ship itself would be turned on its side and sink into the deep. His thin shoulders shook as he wept, and though he fought to hold back his tears, occasionally a hiccup or gasp for air escaped.”
“It was at that moment,” and here the pirate’s voice, though still rough with deeply felt emotion, grew more musical and light, “when all hope seemed lost, that he felt a soft, familiar touch on his shoulder sliding down to gently rub his back until his strangled sobs eased. It was his older brother, roused from slumber, either by the boy’s distress or the ferocity of the storm, and quick to come to his younger sibling’s aid. The elder scooted into the bunk and gingerly wrapped an arm around the trembling smaller form, shushing and soothing as best he could.”
“Even as the wind continued to wail and howl all around, and as the waves slapped against the hold where they huddled together, the boy already felt much stronger - less afraid - just knowing that he was not alone. And then the elder brother began to hum. It was a familiar tune, a soothing lullaby coaxed from the far reaches of the younger’s memory along with an echo of his mother’s warm voice singing that same melody. Soon his brother was offering lilting words as well, in barely more than a whisper. Both knew the ire which would rain down on their heads if they roused any others, and yet his sibling dared those consequences to end his little brother’s torment. As the near-forgotten song continued, the effects of the wild storm seemed to die away. By the time the end of the song neared, that frightened cabin boy had finally found sleep.”
“What was the song?” Hope piped up curiously. “Can you sing it for us?”
Killian shook his head with a humored huff, having expected no less. Not letting himself hesitate long enough to change his mind, he wet his lips, drew in a steadying breath, and launched into the old tune he remembered hearing in Liam’s murmured, youthful tones. His brother had always told him it was their mother’s favorite - one she had used often to soothe fevers or lull her boys back to peaceful dreams after nightmares. Killian had barely remembered her - or anything about the cozy, cliffside cottage that had been their home - even then, but Liam had held it dear in his own heart and had brought the same feeling to life for Killian.
As Killian continued to sing, voice gathering strength while rising and falling with the notes, the rain outside their small shelter in the woods seemed to wrap around and join the chorus. His audience in the cabin listened closely, drawn into the song that had once been his mother’s, which had comforted him for years as something of his older brother’s, passing on once again to the new family they had made.
And as the fireplace crackled invitingly, his wife’s golden head rested on his shoulder, and he sang the last lines, the sudden storm they’d hunkered down to escape seemed to have enclosed them in a haven instead. The wind blowing the branches against the windows still showed its power, but with those he loved around him, the storm which had accompanied his long held memories finally ceased.

The cold floor hit your bare feet as you tiptoed your way toward a small chair near the bed, reaching for an old hoodie to shield yourself from the chill. Abby was still asleep, her steady breathing and quiet snoring letting you know she was deeply wrapped in the comfort of her cocoon. You didn’t have much time, though—she would wake the second the bed grew too cold and her arm could no longer find you, desperately pulling you closer to warm herself.
She lay on her stomach, one arm draped across the mattress, reaching into the warmth you’d left behind. The white sheet beneath her, its soft folds matching the pine-green ones above, held her gently. Loose strands of hair from her thick braid fell against the sides of her face, barely brushing her skin with each soft exhale. Her eyebrows, usually so bold, were peacefully soft, and her lips—plump and rosy—mirrored the flush of her cheeks. You couldn’t resist leaving a soft kiss near her ear, a gentle touch before you left the room.
Each step toward the door made you regret not putting on socks last night—maybe Abby’s old slippers would do. With your steps now messy and hesitant, you made your way downstairs. The worn wood creaked slightly beneath you, the house itself groaning in the quiet of the morning.
You had eventually made yourselves comfortable in this small house nestled in the heart of the woods, large enough for the three of you—Abby, Lev, and yourself. Together, you had worked tirelessly to make it a safe and secure place, not just from the infected, but from other, more dangerous people. You had made it a home.
You ensured that everyone felt welcome, particularly Lev. You took every opportunity to talk with him, to teach him what he hadn’t yet learned, and to share the things you loved—books, music, art—while helping him discover his own interests. And with Abby, your love deepened with every day she returned from her small patrols, always bringing back something for Lev—a plushie or a trinket—and for you, perhaps a new vinyl to play. She would ask you to show her the record, and later, you would listen together, the soothing classical music filling the house while you shared a quiet dinner.
As the months passed and your future materialized in the present, you found yourself gathering small gifts. It would be Lev’s first holiday, and Abby’s too, at least with you. The first time you would all celebrate Christmas together. You wanted it to be special, a way of thanking them for everything they had done for you. All the words Lev had shared when he realized you were just as broken as he was, and how, despite it all, he allowed you into his life. And Abby—your way of giving her the love she had always shown you, in the form of the most precious gift.
You knew Abby would appreciate it—celebrating the season was something she had learned from her father. She had told you once that receiving a gift was the way she could feel loved, a reminder that she was not a monster. And you wanted to show her that—wanted to remind her that she was seen, that she was loved, and that you all had each other.
Since the weather had turned colder, you’d offered to join in the patrols, even begging Abby to let you go outside. She always insisted it was too dangerous, but you knew you could take care of yourself, and somehow, you managed to sneak out on occasion. You gathered small things—some fabric, trinkets, and a few essentials. And when Abby took Lev to care for the animals you’d gathered, or when she napped after lunch, you’d use your quiet time to craft their gifts.
It wasn’t too difficult, given that they were often busy—Abby tending to the animals or decorating the little pine tree you’d dragged home from the nearby woods, with Abby’s approval, of course. You had to be careful, though, not to trust too easily that they would be distracted. But it worked.
The sight before you made your stomach flutter, like a child eager with excitement. Three stockings hung from the mantle, each chosen with care—yours in the middle. Beneath the homemade tree, a few gifts waited for everyone—unwrapped, because there wasn’t enough paper, but neatly arranged, placed with care just as the stockings were.
The next task was to light the fire, to warm the house and prepare breakfast, just as you had for months. It was small, but it had become part of your routine—after all, lunch and dinner were a family affair, something you all shared.
Once the food was ready, you made your way upstairs. The light from the cloudy sun streamed through the windows, warming the house with its yellow hues. You returned to the bed, noting that Abby was still asleep—though not for long, it seemed, as her lips were slightly parted and her breathing had shifted into quiet mumbling. You sat on the edge of the bed, taking her hand and brushing the stray hairs from her face before pressing a kiss to her cheek.
"Abby... Abs—baby?" you murmured, tracing soft circles on her back, the rhythm calming her as her mumbling slowed.
"Abby..."
Her eyes opened slowly, clearly disoriented by the nightmare and the sudden waking, but you were quick to soothe her. "Shh, I’m here... It’s alright. You were dreaming."
She grasped your hand, groaning quietly before turning to face you, her face flushed with the softness of sleep, her lips plump and cheeks full. The sight made you smile, warmth blooming in your chest.
"Merry Christmas," she murmured, trying to pull you back into bed.
You chuckled softly, brushing your hair behind your ear. "Not yet..."
She rolled her eyes, laughing softly. "Is Lev awake yet?" she asked, her voice still thick with sleep as she rubbed her eyes.
"I haven’t checked, but... probably not," you hummed in response, pausing to study her, to savor this moment of quiet contentment with the woman you loved. A slow, peaceful morning like this was a dream come true for many—and here you were, living it.
"Breakfast’s ready," you added, patting her stomach lightly.
You leaned in for a kiss, despite her typical aversion to those unshowered, still-groggy moments. But you couldn’t care less—she was the woman you loved, in all her unrefined beauty, even in these fleeting moments.
"See you downstairs, alright?" you murmured, pressing another kiss to her forehead.
She nodded, but you knew her well.
"Abigail... I’m serious."
She laughed quietly, rolling over and letting her arms fall to her sides as she stretched out. You left the door open as you moved to the curtains, letting the light in while ensuring Abby wouldn’t fall asleep again. You then made your way to Lev’s room, the blue walls of his space greeting you.
He was tangled in blankets, his back to you, but you gently brushed his shoulder, calling out in a soft whisper.
"Lev... morning."
"Morning," he murmured, his eyes still closed.
You smiled, the privilege of caring for this young boy—who still had so much ahead of him—filling your heart.
"Breakfast is ready, alright? Take your time." You caressed his shoulder before stepping out of his room, hearing Abby’s groan as she dramatically climbed from the bed.
"Did you take my shoes?" she called out loudly, too much for the quiet of the morning.
"Yep! I took your slippers," you teased, and Abby laughed quietly in response. She was falling in love with you all over again.
You went downstairs, retracing your steps from earlier, and settled on the couch, waiting for them to come down. Neither of them knew about the stockings or the gifts—it was supposed to be a small, intimate gesture, a simple way of celebrating the season. Just making food together, exchanging small self-made gifts—maybe a letter.
But as much as you were excited, there was a hint of anxiety too. What if it was too much? What if they didn’t like what you had chosen?
"What is that?" Abby’s voice broke you from your thoughts, and you turned to find her standing at the foot of the stairs, still in her pajamas, holding the railing for support.
Her eyes, illuminated in the soft morning light, met yours—she looked so precious.
"Did you seriously make us a stocking?" she whispered, so amused she barely seemed to believe it. Maybe she thought she was still dreaming.
"I did," you said, standing and moving toward her.
"You told me once that you wished someone loved you enough to make you one. I do... I love you."
The words hit her, and you watched as she fought back tears, her jaw clenching, her teeth biting at her bottom lip before she looked back at you.
"I didn’t... Come here." She opened her arms, and you stepped into them, feeling the weight of the moment settle in.
She buried her face in your neck, wrapping her arms around you as all her emotions—fear, love, anxiety—washed over her.
You were real, and so was this. She had someone who listened, who remembered her words, who cared enough to create something special—something that said, "I love you."
And as much as she feared that this day might bring painful memories of her father, the love that surrounded her now was taking up more space. This was hers—this love was real, and it was for her.
You felt Lev coming downstairs, his confused expression slowly softening as understanding spread across his face. You had told him about the stockings, explained what they meant one evening when you and Abby had talked about Christmas traditions.
Lev hesitated, cradling the fabric of the stocking in his hands. He peeked inside, then looked up at you for reassurance. With a nod from you, he carefully pulled out each gift, his eyes brightening with quiet joy.
There was nothing extravagant or meaningful in the traditional sense—but the gifts held things they liked, things they could use, things they wanted. They weren’t
about purpose, but about love. They were a reminder that you saw them, that you loved them, and that they were always safe in your arms.

The house was a prison dressed in luxury. Marble floors, towering glass walls, expensive chandeliers casting golden light over spaces too grand to feel like home. No neighbors. No roads leading in or out. Just endless trees and the man who owned them all. It was beautiful—but suffocating.
Carlos had made sure of that.
Unless she made one.
Y/N knew she had to leave.
It wasn’t just guilt—it was something deeper, something that gnawed at her, keeping her awake at night as she lay tangled in silk sheets that smelled of Carlos. She wanted to be happy. To have a real life. A husband, children, a future where she wasn’t someone’s dirty secret.
She couldn’t be his secret anymore.
Rebecca existed. She was real. A flesh-and-blood woman who deserved better than to have her fiancé sneaking off into the night to fuck someone else. Y/N had tried to ignore it, tried to silence the voice in her head that screamed at her every time Carlos pressed her against the walls of his mansion, but she couldn’t anymore.
She had to get out.
But escaping Carlos Sainz was easier said than done.
Security cameras in every corner, high walls, guards at the entrance. Carlos wasn’t careless—he was meticulous. Y/N knew he kept an eye on her even when he wasn’t home, watching her through the screens in his private office. Even the staff in the house—guards, maids, chefs—answered only to him. There was no way out. She was his, and he would never let her go willingly.
So she planned. Carefully, meticulously.
Every step had to be calculated, and every move executed perfectly. One mistake, and he’d find out. And if Carlos found out?
She didn’t want to think about what would happen.
For weeks, Y/N observed everything. The way the guards changed shifts, which doors were locked at night, which ones weren’t. The windows that didn’t have alarms. The places in the house where the cameras had blind spots. She memorized every inch of the house, looking for an opening.
And finally, she had a plan.
She had been playing the perfect role for a week now—sweet, submissive, eager to please. She smiled when he touched her, melted into his arms when he pulled her close, and whispered soft praises against his skin, all while hiding the raw desperation pooling in her chest.
Because she knew.
She knew that Carlos watched her like a hawk, his dark eyes tracing her every movement, his presence a constant shadow pressing against her skin. He had rules and expectations. And if she misbehaved and dared to push against the invisible walls he built around her, he would make her regret it.
She had seen his anger before.
She wasn’t foolish enough to provoke it again.
Which was why she had spent seven days keeping him satisfied. Keeping him distracted. Letting him believe that she had finally settled into the life he had crafted for her.
But tonight—tonight was her only chance to run.
And she was going to take it.
The evening was heavy with heat, the scent of burning wood from the grand fireplace curling through the massive bedroom. Carlos stood near the window, his bare chest illuminated by the soft glow of the moon filtering through the glass. He looked every bit the predator he was—broad shoulders tense, muscles rippling under his tanned skin, the scar on his abdomen a brutal reminder that men like him had fought for everything they owned.
And Carlos? He owned her.
Or so he thought.
“Come here, cariño,” he murmured, his voice thick with the kind of authority that left no room for argument.
Y/N obeyed. Because that was what he expected. Because tonight, she couldn’t risk raising suspicion.
She stepped between his legs as he sat on the edge of the bed, his large hands immediately finding her waist, fingers pressing into her softness with unmistakable possession.
“You’ve been good this week,” he mused, tilting his head as if studying her, his lips ghosting over the pulse in her throat. “Too good.”
Her breath hitched.
Carlos knew.
Or at least, he suspected.
She forced a small smile, running her fingers through his thick, dark hair, pretending she wasn’t trembling inside. "I just… wanted to make you happy," she whispered, hoping he would buy it.
A slow smirk curled on his lips as he pulled her onto his lap, forcing her thighs to straddle his. "You always make me happy, mi amor," he murmured, pressing a hot, open-mouthed kiss to her collarbone. His voice darkened. “But you’ve never been this obedient before.”
Her stomach twisted.
“Do you know what that makes me think?” he continued, his hands sliding up her back, his grip unrelenting.
She swallowed hard. “What?”
“That you’re hiding something.”
Her breath stuttered, but she forced herself to laugh softly, leaning in to brush her lips against his jaw. “What would I be hiding, Carlos?”
His hands flexed around her hips. “That’s what I’m trying to figure out.”
Y/N’s heart pounded so loudly she was sure he could hear it. She needed to distract him. Now.
So she kissed him.
Hard.
It was desperate, feverish, an act of submission that she knew he would take as proof of her devotion. Carlos growled against her lips, one hand tangling in her hair, the other gripping her hip so tight she knew there would be bruises tomorrow. But that didn’t matter.
Nothing mattered except keeping his guard down.
His tongue slid against hers, demanding, possessive, hungry. He kissed like a man who needed to consume like letting her go would kill him. And maybe, in some twisted way, it would.
Carlos ripped her silk nightgown off in one swift motion, tossing it somewhere behind them. His hands roamed freely, mapping the curves he already knew by heart, his breath hot against her skin. “Tell me, cariño,” he murmured, voice thick with desire as he nipped at her jaw. “Do you love me?”
Y/N's nails dug into his shoulders. “Yes,” she breathed because he wanted to hear that.
Because lying was the only way to survive.
Carlos groaned, flipping her onto the bed in a blur of movement, his body pressing her down into the silk sheets. His eyes were dark—ravenous. “Dímelo otra vez,” he demanded, lips brushing against her ear. “Tell me again.”
“I love you,” she whispered, hating how easily the lie slipped from her lips.
Carlos rewarded her with another bruising kiss, his hands trailing down, fingers teasing, claiming, possessing.
And Y/N let him.
Because tonight was the last time she would ever let him touch her.
His mouth was on hers before she could respond, his kiss so deep—claiming. He didn’t just want her—he wanted to remind her that she belonged to him.
His hands made quick work of the dress she was wearing, sliding it down her body until it pooled at her feet. His touch was rough, desperate, like he could sense something was off but didn’t know what.
Y/N let herself sink into it one last time.
One last time, she let him ruin her. Let him mark her with bruises that wouldn’t fade by morning. It wasn’t easy to do—he had an almost inhuman amount of energy when it came to taking what he wanted. But tonight, she had given him everything he asked for. She had let him break her, let him claim her in every way he could, let him fall into the heavy, satisfied sleep of a man who believed he owned her.
Carlos growled her name as he came, pressing his forehead against hers as he caught his breath. His hands stayed on her, holding her close like he never wanted to let go.
Like he never would.
Y/N’s heart clenched painfully as she ran her fingers through his damp hair, pressing a soft kiss to his temple.
“Te amo,” he murmured against her skin, half-asleep, completely unaware that she was about to disappear from his life forever.
Y/N closed her eyes.
Then, she whispered, “I love you too.”
And when Carlos finally drifted off to sleep.
She slipped out of bed, heart pounding so violently she thought it might burst from her chest.
She had memorized every creaking floorboard, every security detail. She had spent weeks gathering what little supplies she could.
And now? Now it was time.
She grabbed the small backpack hidden under the dresser, slipping into dark clothes and silent footsteps. The cool night air hit her as she cracked the bedroom door open, her stomach twisting when she saw the security cameras positioned along the hallway.
But she had planned for this.
Her escape route was through the back—one of the kitchen doors had a faulty lock. She had overheard a maid complaining about it. The security team hadn’t fixed it yet.
She didn’t look back. She moved quickly, sticking to the shadows, staying out of the cameras’ view as she made her way toward the broken door she had found.
Her heart pounded as she stepped out, cool night air kissing her skin. She had only seconds before someone noticed she was gone.
She made it past the garden. Reached the outer gates, before she heard it.
A voice as smooth as silk but laced with something far more dangerous.
“Where do you think you're going, mi amor?”
Her heart stopped.
Every part of her froze.
Slowly—terrifyingly slow—she turned. And there he was.
Carlos.
Standing in the dim glow of the estate’s lights, his sharp features shadowed, his broad chest rising and falling with slow, controlled breaths. He was still in his dress shirt from earlier, sleeves rolled up, the top buttons undone, revealing golden skin and the hint of defined muscles.
But it wasn’t his beauty that terrified her.
It was his eyes.
Dark. Wild.
Burning with something lethal.
A slow smirk curved his lips. But there was no amusement in it—only cold, simmering fury.
“You look like you've seen a ghost, cariño.”
Y/N stumbled a step back.
Carlos tilted his head, his expression eerily calm.
“Go on,” he murmured, voice soft. “Run.”
Her stomach dropped.
Panic exploded in her chest, but before she could take another step—
He moved.
Fast.
Too fast.
A choked gasp tore from her lips as his hand shot out, gripping her wrist in a punishing hold. She yelped as he yanked her forward, her body slamming against his with bruising force.
“Did you really think you could escape me?” Carlos whispered against her ear, his voice deadly.
Y/N trembled, her breath coming in frantic little gasps.
“Carlos—"
But she couldn’t speak.
Couldn’t breathe.
Because his fingers wrapped around her chin, forcing her to look up. His dark eyes bore into hers, unreadable, terrifying.
“Let me go, Carlos,” she gasped, struggling, but his grip only tightened.
“Let you go?” He laughed, but there was no humor in it. His free hand tangled in her hair, pulling her head back so she had no choice but to look up at him. His jaw was clenched, veins bulging against his skin. “You belong to me, Y/N. There is no leaving. You know that.”
Tears burned in her eyes. “I can’t do this anymore—"
“Yes, you can.” His voice was sharp, demanding. “You can and you will.”
She shook her head. “I want a life, Carlos. A real life. I want to get married, have kids—"
His eyes darkened. “You want a husband? You want kids?” His fingers traced down her jaw, deceptively gentle. “Fine. Then I’ll marry you. I’ll give you my children. I’ll give you everything—except freedom.”
Her breath caught.
“Carlos—"
He crushed his lips against hers.
The kiss was nothing like the ones before. It wasn’t sweet or coaxing. It was punishment. Desperate, angry, claiming. His hands slid down her body, gripping, owning, as if he wanted to remind her that no one else would ever touch her like this.
He lifted her effortlessly, throwing her over his shoulder as she gasped and pounded against his back.
"Carlos, stop—!"
He carried her inside, past the staff who had quickly disappeared, knowing better than to get in his way.
The bedroom door slammed behind them.
She barely had time to breathe before he pinned her against the wall, his body flush against hers.
“You wanted to run from me?” His voice was low, dangerous. His fingers traced down her arms, making her shiver.
Y/N trembled, her breath coming in frantic little gasps.
“Carlos—"
But she couldn’t speak.
Couldn’t breathe.
Because his fingers wrapped around her chin, forcing her to look up. His dark eyes bore into hers, unreadable, terrifying.
“Answer me. Did you think I would let you go?” he murmured. “That I would just let you slip through my fingers like some fucking mistake?”
A shiver ran down her spine.
“Please—”
Carlos’s grip tightened.
“Shhh.” His thumb traced her trembling bottom lip, his touch deceptively gentle. “I want to hear you beg, but not for that.”
Y/N whimpered as he leaned down, his breath warm against her ear.
“Listen to me, corazón,” he whispered, his voice turning rough. “Even if you run until your legs give out, even if you die trying—I will still chase you. Even if you leave this world, I will follow you to the next.”
Her breath hitched.
“You are mine. No one else’s. No one ever fucking touches you, do you understand?”
She swallowed hard, her body caught between fear and something far more dangerous—something she didn’t want to name.
Carlos’s lips brushed against her jaw, sending a sharp, electric shock through her system. His grip on her waist tightened, his fingers digging into her soft flesh possessively.
“Look at you,” he murmured, trailing kisses down her throat, “so fucking perfect. So fucking beautiful.”
A deep, guttural sound rumbled in his chest as his hands slid down, gripping her hips, pulling her flush against him.
“Carlos, please—"
“Please what?” He kissed her jaw, her neck, biting down just enough to make her whimper. “Please remind you who you belong to? Please fuck you so hard you forget why you ever wanted to leave?”
Heat pooled low in her stomach.
“Carlos, stop—"
But he silenced her with a kiss.
Not gentle. Not soft.
Devouring.
It was teeth and tongue, a bruising, punishing clash of mouths that left her gasping. His hands roamed her body, fingers tangling in her hair, gripping her waist like he needed to mold her against him.
“You belong to me,” he growled, pulling back just enough to nip at her bottom lip. “Say it.”
She shook her head, her breathing ragged.
Carlos’s eyes flashed.
He threw her onto the bed, his body following immediately after, pinning her down beneath his weight. His dark eyes burned into hers, his hand sliding up her thigh, hiking up the flimsy dress she had dared to run in.
“You tried to leave me,” he murmured, voice low, dangerous. “That means you need to be punished, cariño.”
His lips trailed down her neck, hot and unrelenting. His fingers toyed her clothes with his breath heavy, burning.
“You’re mine, cariño,” he murmured against her skin. “And I am going to remind you exactly who you belong to.”
His hands ripped her clothes apart.
And then there was no more running. No more thoughts of escape.

Hi! I had a request if it's okay and I thought I'd send it to your inbox like you asked me to :))
The vision I kinda had for it was ultimately inspired by the fanart and now that I actually think about it, perhaps it's something like rafayel's an outlaw and she's the future queen or sm and they're having a secret affair and ultimately they're caught one day and so her father's furious cs like as you said in the Nanami one, she's supposed to be absolutely pure until marriage so when she's caught with Rafayel doing the dirty, it's absolutely js like 😨😡🤯 for her father, I didn't know how else to explain it srry 😭😭 but yh and so now her father's in a rush to marry her off without further embarrassment but then her and rafayel elope but they go through the deserts, like in the fanart, so nobody can chase after them and uh yh 😭 the only smut I envisioned would be at the beginning of it cs personally, I can't see them doing it in a hot and sandy desert 😖 so uh yh
But tyyy 🫶🫶🫶

Warnings: MDNI, sex, angst, mentions of death and violence, reader experiences depression and thoughts of taking her own life briefly A/n: Book anon and I had a chat about this fic, and after getting more details, she said she wanted it loosely based off the Aladdin AU I wrote for Nanami . I am still writing the Zayne and Dawnbreaker fic but inspiration somehow found me and this ended up being written quite quickly. And this is only my second oneshot for Rafayel, like WHAT?! I don't write enough for him.
You sit miserably on your bed, staring out of the barred window at the silhouette of the city in the distance. The bars were a recent addition, placed to discourage you from trying to pull a Houdini a few days before your wedding.
Your future in-laws were already at the palace, no doubt being shown the lavish grounds and amenities they could expect once their son officially became your husband. The thought made you sick to your stomach because you neither asked nor wanted this wedding. The setting sun cast long shadows across the palace grounds and painted the sky various shades of gold, tangerine, and magenta, and your mind couldn’t help but wander to last week, when you had been unburdened by the prospects of marriage and your heart had been full of love.
You supposed you should have known better, but how was one expected to resist the natural pull of desires coming alive when your loved one was near? The longing of wanting to be tucked into their embrace, of feeling their lips on yours, and the press of your skin coming together as passions overflowed, the magic of it all glowing like embers from a fire, rising and disappearing into the air.
No one had suspected the Lemurian initially. It was well-known he was a gift to you, and that due to their unwavering loyalty bond, he would never be able to take advantage of you. But what the royal family hadn’t anticipated was that you would consent to being taken advantage of by the Lemurian.
Rafayel had been your steadfast companion for years, since you were a child and he had been presented to you on your birthday. And although you had given his freedom, he returned to visit regularly, bringing back gifts each time; bangles for your wrists, fancy hair ornaments, and little glass figurines that littered the small tables all around your room. No one had suspected that as both of you grew older, that you’d develop feelings for each other that went beyond master and servant. No one thought the princess with the blessed heart would choose him, someone that they had considered less than human, unfit to be your romantic companion in their eyes. But how wrong they had been, and when the king had discovered the extent of your affair, his wrath was terrifying.
When Rafayel had been discovered in your bedchamber fully clothed, while you lay naked on the bed with nothing more than a bedsheet wrapped around you, the king had demanded his life as retribution. You had screamed, begged and pleaded, and the memory of the king’s look of disgust was burned in your mind as you kneeled at his feet, clutching the bedsheet like it was armor. It had taken 4 men to restrain Rafayel, and as they dragged him away, you could still hear his grunts of pain as the guards had kicked and punched him as they took him away to the jail underneath the palace.
It had been a week since then, and you had trailed pathetically behind the king ever since, until he had coldly informed you that Rafayel had been beaten to death. There was no remorse in his tone, not even a slight offer of comfort. In the same deadpan voice, the king had informed you that your marriage to the prince of a neighboring kingdom had been arranged, and that no one needed to know you had been “ruined” before your wedding night.
Shortly after, he had hired some servants to put bars on all the windows in your bedchamber, and security constantly patrolled the wing where your living quarters were. It wasn’t necessary; you had lost the will to fight after learning about Rafayel’s demise.
You cried, feeling like your heart was breaking into pieces, bleeding, yet cruelly refusing to stop beating. Why couldn’t it halt, just give out and end it all? You’d considered taking your own life, yet each time you eyed the small dagger that you’d hidden under your mattress, an overwhelming bond held you in place; perhaps your self-preservation instincts were too strong. And thus, you fell into a trance, a state of being on autopilot. Dutifully, you had presented yourself to the prince, had allowed your handmaidens to preen and fuss over you, dressing you in fine silks, painting your lips the reddest of reds and patting rouge onto your cheeks to give you the look of a blushing bride besotted with her betrothed.
Internally, you were screaming, but your body felt too exhausted to muster the energy to match the rage boiling inside you. You had looked in the mirror, not recognizing the reflection that stared back at you. There were bags under your eyes, a grief-stricken droop in your posture, yet all your ladies in waiting tittered on about how beautiful you looked, and that once you were married you’d have more dresses than your wardrobe could accommodate. You felt ashamed. If any other person had been as close to you as Rafayel had, you’d be wearing the standard black gown that signified mourning. It felt like a smear on Rafayel’s memory that you were lamenting his loss so keenly, yet unable to show it in your attire.
Now with two days left to your wedding, you had resigned to your fate. Dusk had fallen, yet you can hear the cacophony of voices from the balcony. A pre-weddng celebration. Delicious smells wafted into your bedchamber, accompanied by the sounds of laughter and music. Everyone was celebrating your upcoming nuptials except you. Your handmaiden had attempted to get you dressed for the evening but you had been so uncooperative and listless that she’d given up, settling for the reassurance that at least you weren’t trying to escape anymore.
Suddenly, your stomach roiled, feelings of deep disgust welling up inside you and bubbling out like molten lava. You slammed all the windows shut, making no effort to hide your disdain for the sham of a welcoming party the king had put together for your supposed fiancé. You locked the door and began to tear apart everything in the room. You knocked over lamps unflinchingly as the delicate glass shattered onto the floor. You threw the fairytale books from their shelves, ripping out pages from some of them, tearing the pretty illustrations depicting princes and princesses getting their happy ending. You dipped your calligraphy brushes into various pots of ink and dragged them along the walls, haphazardly stroking chaotic lines of color into the walls. And you screamed all the while this happened. Tears flowed unrestrainedly down your cheeks. If they refused to let you honor him quietly in black, then you’d do it loudly, in the most violent shades you could find.
This was your grief. It was not theirs to control, and you felt the dam of emotions you had been holding back come flooding through. You allowed yourself to remember everything; nights spent on the balcony whispering your fears and secrets to him, using little henna cones to trace patterns onto his hands, and letting him do the same for you, marveling at how much bigger they were than yours, with those long, slender fingers. You remembered the softness of his hair and how the wind messed up his bangs and how his eyes turned into the most breathtaking shade of lilac as the sun caught them. The way his eyelashes rested like fans on his cheeks while he was sleeping, and the gentleness of his lips as he kissed you.
You didn’t care about the purity laws. You had done nothing impure, nothing worthy of the scorn the king had been giving you the past few days. What was revolting was the way everyone else was behaving, acting nonchalant like your childhood companion hadn’t been beaten to death within the very walls of this palace you had called home. So you kicked, your voice calling out his name like a wild animal, holding yourself to prevent your being from falling apart at the seams, your fingernails leaving little bloody marks in your sides as you did so.
When the rage finally quieted down, the room was in shambles. It brought you a great sense of satisfaction, your throat raw from your lamenting. Exhausted, you collapsed on the bed, and the anguish turned quiet. You could feel it still crawling under your skin but the cathartic destruction of your bedchamber had dulled it.
You knew you’d never love the man who was to be your husband. How were you to sleep with this man? This person who hadn’t even questioned the circumstances under which this marriage had been proposed?
Shivering from the adrenaline withdrawal, you bury your face into your pillow, desperately recalling all the times Rafayel had made love to you. Your hands start to wander, softly touching yourself, cupping your breasts, and sighing as your fingers wandered to the space between your legs.
Rafayel’s lips were cool against the heat of your bare skin. You were blushing from your lack of experience. There’s a playful mischievousness in his eyes as he trailed kisses down the column of your neck, coming to the valley between your breasts.
“Is your highness pleased?” He had teased, looking up at you slyly, enjoying the way your cheeks turned pink. You had averted your gaze, trying not to make it obvious how much he was affecting you, which had only amused him.
“It pleases me when you’re pleased, ya know?” His mouth had closed over a pert nipple, suckling with the perfect pressure that had made you whimper needily, feeling moisture gathering in your core. Heat gathered in your belly and your toes kept curling into the sheets as he pleasured you.
When you dared to look at him again, his eyes glittered with dark desire.
“Tell me my lady,” he had whispered as he’d pushed your knees apart to settle in between them. “Are you in need of my services? All you need to do is ask.”
Your breath had caught in your throat as his fingers gently spread your wet lips apart, revealing the little engorged bud in between them. Rafayel’s tongue gave it a wet lick and your back had arched in pleasure, a wanton noise escaping you. You had waited for him to continue but when you felt nothing, your eyes cracked open for a second only to see him gazing intently at you.
“I await your command my princess,” he had said patiently even though desire was eating away at him.
“Rafayel, please,” you had gasped. “I’m yours.”
Relief had flooded your system as his tongue found purchase between your folds, his spit gathering onto the swollen membranes as he tasted you. Your body felt like it was in heaven, becoming lighter and alive under his ministrations. The room had filled with the lewd, moist noises of his tongue lapping away at your slick folds, sucking your clit with care until your mind was a mess of hot need. You had struggled to reach the peak, almost losing concentration until Rafayel’s hand had reassuringly held yours and your fingers had interlaced with his.
The thoughtful gesture had been the thing needed for you to find the courage to tip into the abyss of desire where all that existed was him and the desires of your own body. You felt all the senses leave you as you orgasmed, your clit spasming in ecstasy as your hole fluttered in urgent need. Your thighs trembled and you moaned his name as he licked through the aftershocks.
After every last drop of your pleasure had been drawn, he’d held you against him, helping you come down from the intensity of the high. You could feel his erection pressing hotly against your thigh, barely contained by the thin fabric of his underwear. Boldly, your hand had slipped into it, grasping his length and stroking, drawing a hiss from him.
“Impatient princess?” he had asked with a lilt, trying to fluster you again, but his teeth were gritted at how good your small hand felt on his cock. He’d guided you, showing you how to hold him, how much pressure he liked, and once you’d mastered the movements, he’d allowed himself a brief moment of indulgence, surprising you when he stilled your hand.
“I won’t last long if you keep this up.” His hand brushed your cheek and he’d kissed you before rolling you under him.
“I promise this won’t hurt too much.”
Your body tensed when you felt his thick, rounded head probe your entrance, carefully notching into the tight space.
“Don’t worry.” Rafayel snuggled your body close to his, peppering your face with little kisses. “I’ve got you. Just keep breathing. Nice and deep.” His hands cushioned behind the back of your head and you trained your eye to focus on the fine ring of inky black that surrounded his mesmerizing irises. Your body stretched around him, the tightness almost unbearably painful, and Rafayel had paused several times to let you adjust, gently sheathing himself inch by inch, kissing away your tears. He’d stilled when he had finally bottomed out, and you realized your body no longer felt like it was being split apart. You let out the breath you hadn’t realized you’d been holding in, and everything inside you changed.
Rafayel gave a testing roll of his hips and when you clung to him moaning, he’d picked up the pace, thrusting into you, merging your bodies into one. Your legs instinctively wrapped around his waist and you held on tight as he pushed into new realms of discovery.
You withdraw your sticky fingers from your cunt, skin slick with sweat, glowing with the effort of giving yourself that orgasm. They could marry you off, tell the world whatever they wanted, but they couldn’t take away what Rafayel had shown you. You would play the obedient, meek, little princess for now. But someday, you didn’t know when, you would leave. You would find a way to escape from this gilded cage, and never look back.
This newly found resolve calms you, and you manage to fall into a fatigued sleep.
𓇼 ⋆。˚ 𓆝⋆。˚ 𓇼
There’s a tapping noise on the glass of your window, and you awaken abruptly, eyes blinking to adjust the darkness of the night. You find your heartbeat quickening as you spy a shadowy figure lurking outside the glass. Who had managed to get up there? You glance around your room for a weapon, then freeze when an achingly familiar voice calls, muffled through the closed window.
“Open up!”
You blink, looking wildly at the blurred stranger. It couldn’t be. He was dead. You scramble to your feet, trying to calm your frazzled nerves.
A ghost? Had he come to say goodbye?
With a trembling hand, you reach out to undo the lock, not daring to breathe as a tall man dressed in black leather pulls out a strange looking tool, cutting the iron bars in one go before swiftly entering your room.
“Rafayel?” Your voice is unsteady. You can tell he’s injured. His wrist had been splinted and his beautiful face bore bruises.
“Yeah, who else did you think it was?”
“They told me you were dead!” The words were a broken whisper.
“What, did you think I’m that easy to kill?” Rafayel tries to smile but his lips bear a half-healed cut and he winces as he does so. “Princess, I could never die so easily. Didn’t I promise that I’d get you out of here someday?”
Your heart was beating wildly in your chest. Needing confirmation that he was indeed whole and human, you cup his uninjured cheek with an unsteady hand, feeling the heat of his skin, and the soft expulsion of air as it left his nostrils. Rafayel’s eyes soften, and he pulls you into a tight hug, reassuringly patting your hair.
“I’m here my love.” He presses a kiss to your hair. “But we have to move. Quickly. My comrades said they’d keep watch, but it won’t be long until they give the signal. We need to leave as soon as they do so.”
He looks around the room, inspecting the havoc. “What happened here?”
You manage a watery smile, dashing away a tear. “A funeral.”
No sooner had you said the word than a sudden flash of light burst into the sky. Peering outside the window, you see it ascend into the sky, before exploding like a firecracker, the lights arranging themselves to form a fishtail. Screams erupted from the palace grounds which had otherwise been peaceful.
“We’re under attack! Call the guards!” Voices echoed from the din, panic setting in amongst the citizens.
“That’s our cue.” Rafayel looks at you and there’s a hint of uncertainty in them. “Unless you’d rather stay?”
“Never.” You quickly tiptoe to plant a kiss on Rafayel’s lips. He’s startled for a brief moment, then breaks into a wide grin.
“Time to go my beautiful bride.”
He takes your hand and helps you out onto the narrow ledge of the window. It was pitch black outside, the fishtail signal’s brightness engulfing all the stars glimmering in the background.
“We jump.” He holds your hand firmly. “One, two, three!”
You wisely hold in your scream as you leap off the edge with cold nothing underneath your feet, plummeting a few feet before you suddenly bob up into the air. Looking down, you realize you’re standing on something soft and fluid. A flapping noise can be heard as whatever it is rises into the clouds and whisks you away from the palace. Night air wipes your hair as Rafayel holds you tightly to his side.
Once you begin to sail through an unbroken patch of moonlight, you glance down to see your vehicle was a giant manta ray, its flat, pancake-like membranes lazily undulating in the sky as it carried you into unknown lands.
Rafayel helps you sit on the massive creature’s back and joins you, protectively pulling you against him to shield you from the wind. You glance up at him.
“So you heard about the wedding then.” You probe and Rafayel nods, but you notice a flicker of rage in his eyes when you brought it up. Hastily, you add, “I’m sorry. I know you probably don’t want to talk about it. I only asked because you called me a ‘beautiful bride’.”
He turns to look at you, lowering his hood as he does so. “If I recall, I called you my beautiful bride.” The intensity of his gaze makes you blush and you quickly avert your eyes to the starry sky.
“What do you mean?” you ask shyly, then your breath catches in your throat as Rafayel digs into an inner pocket of his garb and pulls out a ring of gold, with a large sapphire set in the middle.
“My beautiful bride,” he repeats, and wordlessly slips the ring onto your finger. You look at it with tears in your eyes, then sniff as you’re pulled into his loving embrace. It was almost presumptuous of him not to ask, but wholly unnecessary in your opinion. You didn’t want to be anyone else’s but his.
Very little was said for the rest of the journey, but words weren’t needed. You knew there would be plenty to talk about once you got off this ride, once you were presented to Rafayel’s entourage, wherever they were. Instead you settled for the knowledge that he was alive, and that you were free from the expectations of the palace.
It was uncertain how much time had passed, but the manta ray began to descend, the air growing warmer as it got lower to the ground, casting a long shadow as it did so. You look around and sense the dry quality of the air, seeing the sand dunes that were everywhere and realize you were in the middle of the desert. The area was still and quiet as your ride landed with a soft thump on the sand. You and Rafayel disembark, and the creature vanishes into thin air.
“Where-?”
“Back to the sea. A god never forces a creature of the deep to remain on land for too long.”
You glance around and squint, seeing silhouettes in the distance that seem to be heading your way.
“That’s our party. Right on time.” Rafayel offers his hand to you, smiling.
“Let’s go say hi. I want to properly introduce them to the future queen of Lemuria.”
Your heart swells with affection, remembering all the times you’d talked about marrying him, about being completely his for all of time. Holding onto his entwined fingers, you take your first step into a life of beautiful freedom.

This is mainly a question (by no means am i telling u to not write a fic tho if u find it in u) cs the way u characterize judd in ur writing matches so well with the shows but do u think he’d be into CNC?
And if he was how deep into it do u think he would be? Something tame like somno/his s/o telling him to stop but he doesn’t listen (HE STOPS WHEN THE SAFEWORD IS SAIDDDD OFC) or the more extreme part like him chasing the reader around the house 😛
(this is if ur comfortable w cnc ofc 🙏)
Girl the way I had to google what that meant— 💀
Also I really like that question lol, I’d like to do a more like “in depth” story about it but I’m stalling SOOOO HARD rn I just wanna get back into writing so bad ugh 💔💔
(ALSO YES!! MY REQUESTS ARE OPEN BUT RN I GOT 120+ AND IM IN OVER MY HEAD SO ITS JUST A SLOW PROGRESS)
But to answer the question; yes, most definitely.
Warning(s): nsfw mentioned mostly, I know I was reading this shit when I was a minor but guys pls don’t I’m begging you 🙏 minors dni.
≽^•𐃷•^≼
<3 Judd is freakyyyyy and would literally love to chase s/o around with a knife.
<3 like in a loving way tho, but yes that definitely turns him on
<3 I think I wrote something about him fucking s/o to a horror movie and to take it a step further, Judd would love love love to be in that horror movie
<3 Halloween? No wdym, it’s sexy time with Michael Myers (a/n: entertaining my own fantasies here ngl)
<3 if s/o is into it of course. His mom and sister definitely installed both the fear and respect of women and/or future partners into him quite early
<3 it’s something Judd and s/o has talked about beforehand, but if you’re out and about, in college or whatever he WILL find you. He’s unemployed and lives with his parents, it’s not like he has stuff to do, not if he’s horny anyway
<3 he definitely gets off on giving s/o a little scare. It’s the thrill of the chase for him and he’s hard before he even parks the van
<3 you asked him to pick you up after work and he’s late. His van is pretty distinguishable so it’s kinda weird you can’t see it parked outside, so you start walking.
<3 He’s in a black hoodie and sweats, the hoodie drawn above his head when he starts following you. It takes a while before you even notice and with the hoodie above his head, you don’t recognize him right away.
<3 the faster you walk, the faster Judd walks behind you until he’s falling in right behind you. When he grabs you, you freeze and think about all the murder weapons Judd undoubtedly has in his room to cut off the dick on this creep when—
<3 “Judd! What the fuck!” He turns you around and presses you against a nearby building, pulls down his hoodie and looks solemnly into your eyes.
<3 “The fuck would you had done if I was actually here to kill you? You’re not safe alone.” He’s only half joking because despite the fact that he planned this beforehand, he’s now suddenly concerned about your safety.
<3 “The only one making me unsafe is you, fucking asshole.”
<3 There are other less extreme examples where he’s not dicking s/o down publicly (which as stated above is definitely thing he’d enjoy)
<3 y’all have the consent talk at some point beforehand, but he’s not gonna ask.
<3 if you’re showering, he’ll slip in behind you
<3 he’s so fucking hard already, pressing into your ass or the small of your back and he doesn’t say anything but “c’mon. Spread your legs, slut.”
<3 what happened to hello? How are you?
<3 he does feel a little entitled to do so, yeah, but he’s also just very horny and he likes to touch you a lot
<3 not like he’ll give you a hug or anything. He’ll grope your ass (I’m labeling him as an ass man it’s just how I feel 🙏) or if he’s feeling wholesome and shit, he’ll let his fingers lightly brush the back of your neck and your hair
<3 with the safe word thing, he’ll definitely only stop if you say that word
<3 he’s not gonna believe you at no, he’ll need the word because I do feel like he’d have a bit of a hard time cooking off sometimes
<3 doesn’t mean he won’t respect the safe word because he respects s/o obv
<3 as I said, he likes the chase tho so if he’s stalking you, chasing you or some other normal boyfriend activity, he’ll def not stop from you saying so
<3 he’s into knife play and shit so that’s why safeword is important because he doesn’t want to actually hurt s/o yk? But he also doesn’t take squirming and “juuuuddd, stoooppp” for an answer right away
<3 ofc it’s also about reading s/o’s emotions you feel me??
<3 but bro he is NOT afraid to get freaky, he’ll be down to try a lot of things and he’ll he even happier of s/o brings stuff to the table as well, he likes pleasing his partner
<3 I feel like he’d not be THAT into somno bc he likes it when s/o is awake, like he likes to see that slight fear and excitement in their eyes and even tho he’s not opposed to doing it while s/o is asleep he’s still like,,, rather them be awake so he can be a dick bc he knows it turns them on lol
<3 but yeah, to sum this messy not so great headcannon up I think he’s DEEP into cnc, like genuinely I’d say it’s his main style bc he wants to be a horror movie character lmfao 💅

As soon as the leaves began to turn, the village became a flurry of activity. The summer months had been kind to the village, and the harvest was bountiful. But there was still much work to be done to prepare for the winter. You did what you could to help your family, as well as the rest of the village.
Today you set out to pick some herbs. It was a chore that you didn't mind, especially on such a beautiful day. Your mother had given you a basket, and you walked through the forest collecting anything that could be used in the healing remedies.
Kneeling down to pick a handful of ripe berries, you stilled at a sudden sound—leaves rustling, a faint snap of twigs. Your hand instinctively reached for your knife, but you forced yourself to remain calm, reminding yourself that large animals were rarely seen near the village, especially during daylight.
To your relief, a hare darted through the brush, nose twitching, large eyes staring back at you as if sizing you up. Smiling, you crouched and reached for a few berries in your basket.
"Hello there," you murmured, extending the food toward the creature, watching its tiny nose sniff the air.
Just as it leaned closer, you heard a soft rustle. An instant later, an arrow shot past, embedding itself in the hare’s side. The animal let out a soft, pitiful sound and tried to flee, but it only managed a few feet before collapsing, blood seeping into the forest floor.
“Oh no…” you whispered, standing abruptly, eyes scanning for the source of the arrow.
Through the trees, a young man emerged, his expression frustrated as he approached the hare, crouching beside it. His blond curls fell over his shoulders, and his blue eyes shone with both impatience and frustration. He muttered a curse under his breath and ended the creature’s suffering with quick precision.
"You must learn patience, Niklaus," another voice said, and a second figure stepped out of the shadows.
Your gaze shifted to this newcomer. His dark hair was tied back loosely, his face more serious, yet his brown eyes held a warmth that softened his features.
"Patience?" Niklaus scoffed, wiping his blade on the grass. "Brother, can you see it was a perfect shot … until the wind changed at the last second."
The dark-haired one chuckled. "Much like how that doe 'vanished into thin air,' or how the 'boar outran you.’" He turned, catching sight of you. For a moment, the easy humor faded from his expression, replaced by curiosity.
"My apologies, we didn't see you there." He gave you a polite bow of his head.
Niklaus stood, his eyes narrowed as he regarded you. "A woman, alone? There are wolves about, you know," he said with a grin.
You felt your cheeks warm at his comment, your eyes darting to the blood on his hands, and the dead hare in his grip.
You lifted your skirts and pulled a long blade from its sheath around your calf. "Not alone," you said, returning his grin.
Niklaus' eyes widened, and his brother let out a soft laugh.
"And now the wolves shall be the ones afraid," the dark-haired one said. "I am Elijah, and this is my brother Niklaus."
"Do you hail from one of the villages downstream?" You asked.
"We do, but our home is much further, on the coast," Elijah explained.
You nodded, then returned the blade to its sheath, and straightened. "What is your business so far from home?"
Elijah gave Klaus a pointed look, before turning back to you. "We are looking to trade, our home lacks some of the necessary supplies to prepare for winter."
"Well, this is a poor season for hunting," you said, pointing to the hare in Klaus' grip.
"Indeed," Elijah agreed, casting a glance at his brother. "Perhaps, if we are lucky, we will come across another."
You looked down at your basket, a thoughtful expression on your face. "My village is just over the hill," you pointed. "The elders may be willing to trade. If you have anything of value."
Elijah glanced at his brother. "Thank you, that would be most kind."
You gave him a small smile, and started down the path. Elijah fell into step beside you, and Niklaus trailed behind, scouting out other possible game.
"Have you lived in the village long?" He asked, glancing over at you.
"My whole life," you told him. "Though, my family came from the north when I was very young."
He nodded, taking in your features. "And are you married?"
"No," you said, a faint blush coming to your cheeks. "How about you?"
"Not yet, no," he told you, giving you a warm smile.
The path led up a steep slope, and after a few minutes, the three of you crested the hill. You could hear the sound of laughter, and children's voices. In the distance, the village spread out across the valley below, smoke curling into the sky from a dozen homes.
"You have a beautiful home," Elijah said, admiring the view.
"Thank you," you said, leading them down the path toward the village.
It wasn't long before someone spotted you, and several children came bounding up to you, asking a million questions.
"I'm sorry, but I must return to my home… but the longhouse is that way," you pointed to a larger building near the center of the village.
"We will find you again soon," Elijah told you, giving you a kind smile.
"I would like that," you admitted, feeling a spark of excitement.
Elijah bowed his head, and his brother waved, before the two of them continued on.
You watched them for a moment, letting out a breath you hadn’t realized you were holding. Though they were gone, a strange sense of lingering excitement remained, mixed with caution. Elijah had stirred something inside you, an interest that you weren't sure how to feel about.
With a shake of your head, you pushed those thoughts aside and continued on. Secretly hoping to see him again.
Tumblr media
The longhouse was warm, and filled with the smell of food and the soft hum of conversation. Many people were gathered around, preparing dinner. Some greeted you, and a few even asked for some herbs for their meals.
You could see Niklaus and Elijah sitting with your father and other men. They had obviously introduced themselves, and your father seemed intrigued by them. The brothers sharing the unfortunate hare between them.
You placed the basket of herbs on the table before taking a seat near your mother. She gave you a small smile, her attention focused on her weaving. You listened to the conversations around you, trying not to be obvious as you watched the two newcomers.
"The dark haired one asked about you," your mother said quietly, her gaze never leaving her task. "He thinks you are quite pretty."
Your cheeks warmed, and you glanced over at the table, seeing Niklaus whispering to your father. Your eyes met Elijah's, and his cheeks reddened, quickly looking away from you.
She glanced over at you, her face unreadable. "I think you should invite him for a walk."
You stared at her, wide-eyed. She had never been so willing to let you be alone with a man. "Really?"
"Yes, you are about to meet your eighteenth winter, it is time you start looking for a husband."
Your stomach flipped, and your palms grew sweaty.
"Besides, all the boys from our village are not fit for you."
"I don't know if I'm ready," you muttered, thinking about being alone with a man.
"If it were left to your father, you would never be ready," she shook her head. "You are a beautiful, smart girl. Any man would be lucky to have you as their wife."
Your gaze moved back to Elijah. His handsome features glowing in the firelight. “Do you really think so?"
"Go invite him for a walk," she repeated, nudging you.
"Right now?" You asked, nervously glancing around.
"Before the sun sets would be the wise choice," she replied, returning her attention to her weaving.
You glanced over at the table, Niklaus had disappeared, leaving Elijah alone. Your father was deep in conversation with the other men, and the women were busy gossiping.
"Go," your mother nodded toward Elijah. "Don't worry about your father."
You swallowed, nodding slowly. You were nervous, but eager. You didn't want to let this chance pass.
You stood and walked over to the table, standing awkwardly beside Elijah. He looked up at you, surprised. "Hello, again," he said, his voice deep and smooth.
You could see your father glancing over at you, and you quickly sat down next to Elijah, avoiding his gaze.
"Are you enjoying your time in the village?" You asked.
Elijah gave a nod, and offered a warm smile. "Very much so. Your people are quite welcoming."
"That's good, I'm glad," you said, fiddling with the hem of your sleeve.
He leaned in a bit closer, his brow furrowed. "Are you well?"
You met his gaze, and nodded. "I am, but, I was wondering if maybe you would like to take a walk with me? If you're not busy that is," you added.
He hesitated for a moment, his eyes darting over to your father. "I fear that would not be wise."
"He'll get over it," you whispered, giving him a small smile.
He considered it for a moment, then returned the smile. "A short walk then."
You stood, and waited for him to join you. As the two of you started for the door, you caught your father's eye, his gaze stern. You ignored him and left the longhouse.
Outside, the air was crisp, the fading sun casting an orange glow across the landscape. A light breeze rustled the trees, and birds chirped.
"You have a lovely village," Elijah said, breaking the silence. "Your people are very kind."
"We've been fortunate," you told him, glancing over at him.
"What are the winters like here?"
"Cold," you laughed. "The snow falls early and stays for many months."
"Our winters are the same," he said, watching as some children ran past.
You fell into silence once more, and after a few moments, your hand brushed his. An unexpected wave of desire rushed through you, and you quickly pulled your hand away, cheeks warming.
He let out an awkward little cough, his cheeks a light shade of pink. He looked so handsome in the soft evening light, the orange and purple hues making his dark eyes sparkle.
You led him to a trail that would take you to a field near a pond. It was a beautiful spot, and quiet, a place that you went to clear your head.
"Is there any particular reason you invited me for a walk?" He asked, looking over at you.
You blushed, looking down at your hands. "My mother seems to think I should find a husband," you explained.
He cleared his throat, and didn't say anything. But his hands were nervously twitching, and you could see his face redden further.
"I'm not suggesting anything," you quickly assured him.
"Of course," he replied, giving a stiff nod.
You stepped off the path, into a clearing, where a large weeping willow grew. You stopped near the tree, and turned to him.
He stepped a bit closer, and held out his hand. You placed your hand in his, and a wave of warmth rushed through you. His fingers closed around yours, and he gently tugged you closer.
Your heart pounded in your chest, and you looked up into his dark eyes, noticing the way his breathing quickened. He cupped your cheek, his thumb brushing along your jaw, sending a shiver down your spine.
"This is not the sort of walk that your mother had in mind, I am sure." He whispered, his face mere inches from yours.
"Perhaps not," you breathed.
You leaned closer, and he pressed his forehead to yours. Your eyes closed, and you let out a soft breath. The scent of leather, and earth, and pine washed over you, and your fingers tightened around his.
He closed the gap between you, pressing his lips to yours in a tender kiss. His lips were soft and warm, and he tasted sweet, like the honeyed mead the village was fond of. Neither of you knew what you were doing, your lips uncoordinated and clumsy. But his touch was gentle, his hands trembling slightly as they found your waist.
Your hands moved up his arms, coming to rest on his chest. You could feel his heart pounding against your palms. The kiss ended all too soon, and you stared up at him, slightly breathless.
His cheeks were flushed, and his pupils blown wide. His mouth opened and closed a few times, then a shy smile broke across his lips.
"We should be getting back," he whispered.
You nodded, not trusting your voice.
He took your hand in his, and guided you back to the path. The walk was mostly silent, both of you still processing what had just happened. But the silence was not uncomfortable, the air between you had changed.
"May I visit you again?" He asked, his voice low and hesitant.
You smiled, and squeezed his hand. "Yes, I would like that."
"Would tomorrow afternoon suit you?"
You nodded, barely able to maintain eye contact, his handsome face giving you butterflies.
"Until tomorrow then," he lifted your hand to his lips and pressed a kiss to your knuckles.
You blushed, and turned to continue on. But his hand tightened around yours, and he pulled you back into his arms, kissing you once more. This kiss was not as gentle as the first. This time it was deep, and passionate, and his hands moved up your back, holding you close.
When the kiss ended, both of you were breathless, and your face was hot. He smiled, and you laughed softly, feeling lightheaded and dizzy.
"Don't tell your father I did that," he whispered, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
You giggled and pressed another kiss to his lips. "I won't."
With a reluctant sigh, he released you, and stepped back. You gave him a little wave, and headed back to your home, the warmth of his touch lingering.
It was late when you reached the house, your father was still out, and your mother was asleep. You climbed the ladder to the loft, and lay down, staring up at the ceiling, a silly grin on your face.
Your mother shifted, turning to face you, her eyes still closed. "What happened?" She whispered.
"Nothing, we just talked," you lied.
"Hmm," she murmured, turning onto her side, facing away from you. "He's quite handsome," she added, her voice barely audible.
"I think so," you agreed, closing your eyes.
It was a long time before you could sleep, your thoughts racing, remembering his scent, and the warmth of his hands. You were nervous, and excited. And for the first time in your life, you found yourself looking forward to the winter months.
Tumblr media
The next few weeks passed quickly. Elijah came to visit as often as possible. Each day the two of you would steal a few moments together, sometimes walking, sometimes sitting in the forest and talking. But you always managed to find a moment to share a kiss, his touch leaving you breathless and yearning for more.
Elijah and Niklaus were invited to stay for the winter, the two of them joining the daily hunting parties, helping with the preparations for the coming season. In exchange, two men from your village would return to their home and spend the winter there. It was a beneficial agreement for all involved, and the brothers were welcome in the village.
Today, you and Elijah were gathering mushrooms in the forest. Your basket was full, and you sat on a rock, watching him search. He was crouched near the base of a tree, and looked over his shoulder at you, a playful glint in his eye.
"I'm afraid I'm not as fast at finding these as you," he teased.
"I know these forests better than anyone," you replied, standing and walking over to him.
"Do you now?"
You nodded, smiling as you knelt down beside him. You could smell the faint hint of wood smoke and herbs on him, and the scent made your stomach flip.
"And what other talents do you have?" He asked, his tone light, teasing. "Can you also predict the weather? Or tell the future?"
You gave him a playful shove, and he made a dramatic show of toppling over. He pulled you down on top of him, and the two of you rolled across the forest floor. Leaves and sticks tangled in your hair, and dirt stained your clothes. You didn't care, it felt good to be so close to him.
The laughter faded, and the mood changed. Your body pressed against his, his arms holding you tight. His breathing was quick, his gaze intense, making heat coil in the pit of your belly.
"I can tell the future," you whispered, leaning in to brush your lips against his.
He hummed, closing his eyes. "Oh?"
"Mmm," you nodded, kissing him. "I see one with you."
You felt his manhood stir against your thigh, and a jolt of excitement ran through you. His hand moved lower, coming to rest on your rear, and you gasped when he squeezed it. You wanted more, and you rocked your hips against his, earning a soft groan, his grip on you tightening.
"We should stop," he said, his words at odds with his actions.
"Do we have to?" You asked, nipping his lip.
"Unfortunately, yes," he replied, though his hands remained where they were. "If not, your father will likely kill me."
You pulled back a little, and sighed. "You're probably right."
You rolled off him, and lay on the ground beside him, looking up at the clouds. Your chest rising and falling rapidly.
He turned his head, looking over at you. His lips were pink and swollen, his eyes dark and full of uncertainty. "Did I upset you?"
You met his gaze, and shook your head. "No, I'm just..." you paused, trying to think of how to phrase it. "I'm not used to feeling this way."
"Neither am I," he admitted, rolling onto his side, facing you.
"How did it come to this?" You asked, shaking your head. "You've only been here a short time, and already, I cannot imagine my life without you."
He propped himself up on his elbow, reaching over to pluck a leaf from your hair. "I have no answers," he said. "But I know I cannot bear the thought of losing you."
You sat up, and leaned in to kiss him again. "Will you speak with my father? About us?"
"I will," he nodded, getting to his feet and helping you up. "But perhaps we should wait until after the solstice. The villagers are preparing for the festival, I do not wish to cause a distraction."
"All right," you agreed.
He took your hand, lifting it to his lips and pressing a kiss to your knuckles. "I'll see you at the festival?"
"Yes," you smiled. "Until then."
"Until then," he replied, stealing one more kiss before heading back toward the village.
You watched him leave, your heart pounding, and your body aching with a need you had never felt before. Imagining him as your husband, and all that would entail, had you blushing and giddy. Now you could only hope that your father would agree.
Tumblr media
The days leading up to the solstice were busy, the entire village preparing for the festivities. A large bonfire was built, and tables were set up. The men and women prepared the food and drink, the children helped gather the firewood. Everyone was excited, and eager to celebrate the shortest day of the year, knowing that the days would only grow longer from there.
Elijah and Niklaus had brought back a rather large elk, which had been butchered, and spiced, and placed on a spit over the fire. The smell was delicious, and people were milling about, chatting and laughing. They were the talk of the village, the strangers who had come in and brought such a great bounty.
Your father had been quite impressed, and the two of them were welcomed among the men, even being allowed to take part in the ceremonies. It warmed your heart to see Elijah getting on so well with your family. You were certain that he could convince your father to let the two of you wed.
"There is my beautiful girl," your father said, walking over and placing an arm around your shoulders. "Your first winter as a woman. It seems like only yesterday, you were still playing with wooden dolls," he sighed, shaking his head.
"Not much has changed," you laughed, nodding toward a group of children, who were dancing and singing.
"True," he agreed, letting out a small sigh. "Soon enough, you will be a mother yourself. Time moves so quickly."
"You could have more," you teased, leaning into his embrace. "A sister would be nice."
He gave a little chuckle, and kissed the top of your head. "Perhaps. But I have the most wonderful daughter, how could any other compare?"
"Thank you, father," you smiled. "Do you really think I'm a woman now?"
"I do," he nodded, looking down at you. "In a few years, you'll be married, and raising a family of your own."
You glanced over at Elijah, and smiled.
"A few years?" You echoed, looking up at your father. "Why so long?"
He let out a sigh, and his brow furrowed. "Your mother and I wish to find the perfect match for you," he explained. "We want to ensure that the man is strong, and smart. A good hunter, and a capable leader. Not too young, not too old. And most importantly, a good man."
You looked back over at Elijah, watching as he spoke with a few men. You were certain that he was the one, but you knew it would be best to not mention him just yet.
"I understand," you replied, glancing up at your father. "I'll keep an eye out."
"Good," he said, giving your shoulders a squeeze. "Now, go dance with your friends, the gods are smiling down on us this night."
"I will," you told him, giving him a quick hug.
As the evening went on, the food was served, and the drinking continued. The bonfire was lit, and everyone began to dance.
Your friends grabbed your hand and pulled you into the circle. The flames danced in the wind, and the music echoed through the village square. Laughter and chatter filled the air, and everyone was happy and cheerful.
Elijah and Niklaus joined in, dancing and drinking. They were a bit clumsy, but they picked up the steps quickly. You felt a little shy, being so close to Elijah, knowing how your body had reacted the last time. But he seemed to be keeping his distance, not wanting to upset your father.
As the night wore on, the children began to drift off, and the adults grew more boisterous. People began pairing off, heading to the shadows, away from prying eyes. You caught Elijah's gaze, and your cheeks heated up, quickly looking away.
The music slowed, and you noticed your father and mother slip away, a knowing look in their eyes. You knew what they were up to, and you couldn't help but giggle.
"What is it?" Elijah asked, coming up behind you.
"They're going to sneak off and do...well, you know," you replied, cheeks burning. "Marriage things," you added, a little breathless.
He laughed, and wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you into a quick kiss.
You stared at him, shocked, then turned to glance around, but no one was paying any attention.
"You shouldn't have done that," you scolded him, glancing over your shoulder.
"Come, I have something to show you," he said, taking your hand and leading you toward the woods.
"Elijah," you whispered, glancing around nervously.
"It's fine," he assured you, squeezing your hand.
He led you away from the bonfire, toward the edge of the woods. There were still a few people wandering around, but none were paying the two of you any mind.
You followed him into the darkness, and after a few moments, the sounds of the village grew distant. He came to a stop near a large tree, and turned to face you.
"Wait here, close your eyes," he whispered, kissing the tip of your nose.
You did as he asked, closing your eyes, a nervous flutter in your stomach. He stepped away, and you could hear twigs snapping, and the smell of smoke reached your nostrils.
"Elijah?"
"Patience," he chuckled.
You heard the rustle of fabric, and then his warm breath tickled your cheek.
"Open your eyes," he whispered.
You opened your eyes, and let out a gasp. There was a blanket spread on the ground, surrounded by candles, the flames flickering and dancing.
"This is lovely," you breathed.
"I hoped you would like it," he said, leading you over to the blanket and helping you sit down.
"How did you do all this?" You asked, looking around at the candles.
"Niklaus," he explained, sitting beside you. "He thinks I should woo you properly."
"Oh?" You grinned. "Woo me, hmm?"
He blushed, his gaze moving down to the blanket.
You lifted his chin, and leaned in to press a kiss to his lips. He responded eagerly, deepening the kiss, his arms wrapping around your waist and pulling you into his lap.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, and shifted to straddle his lap. Giggling softly as his hands moved to your rear.
You could see the glow of the fire through the trees, and hear the faint sounds of the celebration, but you were alone, and free to be together.
He broke the kiss, his dark eyes shining in the candlelight. "I want to make my intentions known," he whispered, brushing his nose against yours. "I wish to marry you, if you will have me."
"Yes," you breathed, nodding eagerly.
"You're certain?" He asked, his expression serious. "It is not too soon?"
"No, I want this," you said, smiling. "I love you."
"And I, you," he whispered, his hand moving up to cup your cheek.
"I wish we could get married tonight," you said, resting your forehead against his.
He hummed in agreement, his thumb stroking your cheek.
You closed your eyes, reveling in the moment. "Can I ask you something?"
"Anything," he replied, pressing a soft kiss to your lips.
"Have you... Uhm..." you stammered, your face heating up. "That is, have you ever...you know...before?"
His cheeks flushed, and his hands fell to his sides. "No, I haven't," he confessed. "Although I would very much like to."
"Oh," you breathed, his words sending a rush of desire through you.
You could feel the bulge in his trousers, and the knowledge that he was aroused only fueled your own excitement. You rolled your hips, and a groan rumbled in his chest.
"Y/N," he said, his voice strained.
"Yes?"
"We should stop," he whispered, his hands gripping your waist.
"Should we?" You asked, rocking your hips again, delighting in the way his breath caught.
"I think so," he nodded, his gaze meeting yours.
You could see the conflict in his eyes, his desire for you warring with his sense of honor.
"I think we should stay," you whispered, leaning closer, brushing your lips against his. "Unless you're afraid of me, and my womanly wiles."
"Afraid?" He scoffed. "Hardly."
"Good," you smiled, kissing him.
His hands tightened around your waist, and he moaned into the kiss, deepening it. You could feel the tension in his body, his restraint wavering.
You pulled back, breathless, and looked into his eyes. You saw the desire there, and the love, and knew you were ready. You pulled on the strings in the front of your dress, and loosened the garment, slipping it off your shoulders and revealing your bare chest.
You wanted to etch the look on his face into your memory forever. The mixture of awe, admiration, and desire. He was trying not to just stare at your chest, his hands twitching at his sides, as if fighting the urge to touch.
You took one of his hands, and brought it to your breast, his palm warm and soft against your skin. His breath hitched, and his pupils dilated, his gaze moving from his hand to your face.
"You are so soft," he whispered, his thumb brushing against the sensitive peak.
You let out a quiet moan, your lips parting, your head falling back. He took advantage, and pressed kisses along your jaw, and down the column of your neck, his other hand sliding up to knead your other breast.
His lips moved lower, and he brushed his mouth against the swell of one of your breasts, and the sensation sent a thrill through you. You had never been touched like this, and you could feel the dampness growing between your thighs.
He took your nipple into his mouth, his tongue swirling around the sensitive peak, and the feeling was indescribable. A rush of heat flooded your veins, the cold air suddenly forgotten. Your hands moved into his hair, your fingers tangling in the dark curls.
His other hand cupped the swell of your breast, his fingers plucking and teasing the peak, eliciting little gasps and moans from you. You had never felt such pleasure, the gods were surely smiling down upon the two of you.
"Elijah," you breathed, your hips moving against him, seeking friction.
He let go of your nipple with a wet pop, his gaze moving back to yours. His lips were pink, and swollen, his eyes dark and heavy-lidded. He was panting, his chest rising and falling, his hands moving down to rest on your hips.
"My dear," he whispered, his voice thick with desire. "I would very much like to lay with you, if you are certain this is what you want."
You nodded, and kissed him, his hands moving up your back and pulling you close.
He lowered you onto the blanket, his body covering yours. His weight felt good, solid and comforting, and you let out a soft sigh. He kissed his way down your neck, pausing to press kisses to your shoulder and chest, pulling a giggle from you.
You reached down and tugged at his tunic, and he pulled back long enough to yank the garment over his head. Your hands moved over his torso, exploring the contours of his muscles, admiring his strength. He was beautiful, and you couldn't help but wonder what the rest of him would look like.
Your cheeks felt warm, your whole body thrumming with desire. Your gaze met his, and you saw a similar mix of lust and nervousness in his eyes.
"What now?" You asked, a little breathless.
He gave a soft chuckle, and leaned down to kiss you, his hands moving over your hips and thighs, pushing up the skirt of your dress. You gasped when his fingers brushed against the damp fabric of your small clothes.
"I've heard from the other men... that they have to... prepare the woman, first," he explained, a slight tremble in his voice.
"Oh," you breathed, a new wave of desire washing over you.
His fingers tugged at the string holding your undergarment on, and he slowly slid the garment down your legs, his eyes fixed on the newly exposed flesh.
"Elijah," you whispered, shifting beneath him.
He tossed your undergarment aside, and ran his hands up the insides of your thighs, gently pushing them apart. You bit your lip, feeling a little self-conscious, but when he leaned down and kissed the patch of curls, all thoughts fled from your mind.
You were certain that the gods had made you for each other. You felt his breath on the most sensitive part of you, and when his tongue brushed against it, a bolt of pleasure shot through you, and you tugged on his hair, trying to pull him closer.
He continued licking and sucking, the sounds making your face flush. He pushed your thighs up and open, exposing more of you to him.
You looked down, watching the way he tentatively tasted you, he was eager and curious, and his attentions were sending a steady rush of heat and pressure to your core.
He found the spot that made you whimper, and began sucking on it, drawing out the pleasure, making you moan and shake. He seemed encouraged by the sound, his movements becoming bolder, more sure.
The heat grew, the pleasure building, and you found yourself grinding against his face, chasing the sensation.
He let out a groan, and the vibration only added to the delicious torment. You felt like you were going to explode, the tension reaching its peak, and when he gently bit down on the sensitive nub, you came undone.
You arched off the ground, stars exploding behind your eyes. Your legs clamped around his head, trapping him in place, but he didn't seem to mind, continuing to lick and suck until the pleasure became too much.
You pulled on his hair, and he lifted his head, his mouth glistening in the firelight. You stared at him, panting and sweaty, wondering how it could have been so much better than the whispers had suggested.
He crawled up your body, his lips capturing yours in a deep, passionate kiss. You could taste yourself on him, the flavor heady and intoxicating. He smiled against your lips, and you reached between the two of you, tugging at the laces on his trousers.
"May I?" You asked, the tips of your fingers dipping beneath the waistband.
He nodded, a soft moan escaping him as your hand closed around his shaft. It was warm, hard, and velvety smooth. You stroked him, enjoying the way his face contorted with pleasure, his hips rocking into your touch.
"Are you all right?"
"Yes," he breathed. "Your touch is much different than my own."
"I should hope so," you chuckled. "Do you like it?"
"Yes," he groaned.
"Good," you smiled, your hand moving up and down his length, exploring what made him groan and move his hips.
"Enough," he panted, pulling away. "I do not wish to spill myself."
You chuckled and laid back, pulling him down on top of you. He tried to line himself up with your entrance, but he kept missing, his hand shaking. You let out a soft giggle, and took his shaft in your hand, guiding him into position.
"Like this," you whispered.
You felt him press against your entrance, the pressure unfamiliar, but not unpleasant. He leaned down and kissed you, his hips slowly thrusting forward, easing his length inside you.
The stretch burned a little, the feeling of fullness was overwhelming. You clung to him, his arms shaking, his breath hot against your skin. He was trying to be gentle, and you could tell it was taking all his self-control.
You ran a hand up his spine, feeling the tension in his body, the way his muscles quivered. You had never felt closer to anyone, the intimacy was almost too much, the emotion threatening to spill over.
"Are you all right?" He whispered, his gaze meeting yours. "Does it feel good?"
You nodded, "how about you?"
He chuckled, "better than anything I have ever felt."
You grinned, and lifted your hips, letting him know it was all right to move. He did, pulling out almost all the way, then easing back in. You could see the concentration on his face, his jaw clenched, his brows furrowed.
"More," you pleaded, wanting to feel him fully.
He complied, his pace increasing, the feeling of him moving inside you driving away the ache and leaving only pleasure.
"I'm afraid I will not last much longer," he breathed, his lips brushing against your cheek.
"It's all right," you assured him, reaching down in-between the two of you, feeling where you were connected.
It was wet, and warm; the coarse curls of his pelvis tickled your palm. You touched his shaft, stroking him as he thrust into you, and his hips bucked, a low moan escaping him.
"Y/N," he groaned, burying his face in the crook of your neck, his hips snapping forward.
His body stiffened, and his breath caught, his shaft pulsing inside you, and you could feel the warm flood of his release. You wrapped your arms around him, holding him close, both of you panting and trembling.
He lifted his head, his dark eyes meeting yours, his cheeks flushed, a hint of a smile on his lips. You leaned up and kissed him, pouring all your love and happiness into it.
He pulled back, resting his forehead against yours.
"Are you all right?" He whispered.
"More than all right," you told him, running a hand through his hair.
"As am I," he replied, pressing a soft kiss to your lips. "We should get cleaned up and return to the celebration before we are missed."
"Or we could stay here," you suggested, smiling mischievously.
"Tempting," he chuckled. "But not wise."
"Fine," you sighed.
He pulled out of you, and you felt a twinge of loss, the cold air reminding you how wet and swollen you still were. He got up and fetched his tunic, cleaning you both up as best he could.
"There," he said, helping you up. "That should do until we can get a proper bath."
"I would very much like to bathe with you," you told him, grinning.
"As would I," he replied, handing you your dress.
You fixed your dress as he snuffed out the candles and collected them in the blanket, sneaking glances at each other, the blush still lingering on your cheeks. Once you were presentable, you took his hand, and followed him back to the celebration.
The sounds of the village grew louder, the voices and music carrying through the trees. He paused, and pulled you into a kiss, his hands resting on your waist. You melted into him, a familiar warmth spreading through you. He pulled away, looking down at you, his expression serious.
"I've known since the first time I saw you," he confessed, his cheeks turning pink. "That this is where I'm meant to be. That you are the one."
"Elijah," you whispered, tears burning in the back of your eyes. "I love you."
"And I love you," he smiled, kissing your forehead. "I will speak with your father tomorrow. There are wedding plans to be made."
"You will?" You squealed, throwing your arms around his neck.
"Of course," he chuckled, hugging you tightly.
He kissed you again, his lips moving slowly, savoring the moment. He reluctantly pulled away, taking your hand.
"Come, we must get back," he whispered, tugging you toward the village.
You followed him, the grin never leaving your face.
Your father would surely be surprised, but Elijah was a good man, a strong warrior, and would be a good husband. Your mother would be delighted, she had always liked Elijah. And, hopefully, that would convince your father to agree.
You couldn't wait to tell everyone the good news. You would finally have the wedding you always dreamed of.
The gods had been smiling down on the both of you, and tonight would be a night you would remember forever.

Snow had fallen in the early hours of the morning after the festival, and it continued for nearly a week. The wind howled, and the village was blanketed in white. It was a gloomy, dark and damp, the wind blowing fiercely, causing the shutters to bang against the wall.
A storm like this would keep everyone inside for at least a month. Fortunately your village was prepared, with plenty of stores and provisions, and the people were content to remain indoors, huddled near the fire.
You wished you were curled up next to Elijah throughout all this, the warmth of his body chasing away the chill in the air. Instead, you were trapped inside with your parents for nearly a month now, trying to keep the gloom at bay.
Your father had only left home once since the solstice, checking in on the villagers and making sure everyone was safe. He returned with good news, the livestock had survived the storm, and the storehouses were well stocked.
You helped your mother prepare food, and kept the hearth burning. The house was warm and cozy, but you couldn't stop the worry from creeping in. You hadn't been feeling well for weeks, food seemed to turn your stomach, and you'd grown irritable, snapping at your parents for no reason.
Your mother had taken notice, and was watching you closely, her eyes narrowing.
"Come sit," she called from her chair, the furs draped over her legs.
"I'm busy," you sighed, adding a few logs to the fire.
"Your father is seeing to the animals," she pointed out, a knowing look in her eye. "Sit," she said firmly, patting the empty seat next to her.
You let out a huff, and plopped down, crossing your arms.
"I can tell something is troubling you," she murmured, reaching out and stroking your hair.
"I just wish to see my friends," you said softly, picking at a loose thread on the cushion. "It's so dull and boring here."
"Ah, yes," she nodded. "And is there one particular friend you would like to see?"
"I suppose," you said, shrugging, feigning disinterest.
"I think there's a young man who is just as eager to see you," she smiled, reaching out and taking your hand. "Do you wish to speak of it?"
"No," you mumbled, not meeting her eye.
She was quiet for a moment, and then cleared her throat. "Are you in love?"
"Mother," you gasped, glancing toward the door, a nervous flutter in your belly.
"I was once a young girl, I know what it feels like," she smiled, squeezing your hand. "You should have seen me, I was hopeless, sighing and daydreaming. Your father had me under a spell," she grinned, a faraway look in her eyes.
"Really?" You asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh yes," she giggled, her cheeks turning pink. "We... don't tell him I told you this...," she whispered, leaning in. "We would... sneak off and feast on the fruits… far before planting the tree," she giggled.
"Mother!" You exclaimed, your face flaming.
"I was very much in love," she said, patting your hand. "As are you, it seems."
"I...," you hesitated, the words getting stuck in your throat.
"Tell me, my child," she murmured, giving you a warm smile. "Do you wish to marry him?"
"I... Yes," you nodded, returning her smile. "I love him."
"And does he love you?"
"Yes, he does," you smiled.
Her hand moved to your stomach, and she rubbed slow circles. Her eyes met yours, a knowing look in them.
"Does he know?"
"Know what?" You asked, confused.
"My dear, you've been unwell," she explained. "Has it not occurred to you why?"
"No," you shook your head.
"Your body has changed, I noticed it the other morning when you were dressing. Your breasts are fuller, your waist is a little thicker. And," she stopped, and reached down, taking your hand and guiding it to your stomach. "Your belly is softer."
"I...uhm," you shook your head, panic welling up inside you.
"I'm not saying this to scare you," she soothed. "This is a good thing. The gods have blessed you."
"Oh," you whispered, tears welling up in your eyes.
"When was the last time you bled?" She asked, tilting her head.
"I...don't know," you admitted. "A moon ago? Before the snow fell."
"Is that around the time you and Elijah were...feasting on the fruits?" She asked, lowering her voice.
You nodded, and felt the tears spill over.
"Don't be afraid," she cooed, gathering you into her arms."I'm not angry, I promise,"
"Father will be," you mumbled, tears spilling down your cheeks.
"Perhaps not," she replied, her voice gentle. "If Elijah is a good man, he will take care of you. You and the baby. And your father will come around."
"You really think so?"
"I do," she assured you. "I will speak with him."
"What if the baby isn't his?" You asked, chewing on your lip.
"You've been with no other men, have you?" She said, her tone growing stern, her eyes hard.
"No," you shook your head.
She paused for a moment then laughed, and squeezed your shoulders. "Then the child is Elijah's."
"But what if father doesn't believe it? What if-,"
"Hush," she said firmly. "It will be alright. Do not worry."
"Are you certain?"
"I am," she smiled, stroking your cheek.
"You're not angry with me?" You asked, feeling a little guilty.
"No, I'm not," she assured you. "But I would prefer the wedding take place sooner rather than later."
Your conversation was interrupted by the sounds of your father returning and more voices joining his.
"Come," your mother whispered, standing and reaching for your hand. "I'll make us some tea."
You nodded, and followed her to the table.
"Good afternoon, my loves," your father greeted you, stomping the snow off his boots.
Niklaus and Elijah followed behind, they had brought food and supplies, the two of them covered in a thick layer of snow.
"It's a good thing these two came along," your father commented, shaking his head. "I might have gotten lost out there."
"It is quite a blizzard," Niklaus chuckled, pulling his cloak off.
"These fine gentlemen are going to stay with us until the storm passes," your father said, glancing at your mother. "The snow has caved in the roof of their hut."
"Well," your mother clapped her hands. "That settles it. Let me get a hot meal on the table."
You watched Elijah as he pulled off his cloak, the fur falling away, revealing his strong arms and shoulders. You could feel the heat rising in your cheeks, and quickly averted your eyes.
"Sweetie, will you show them where the linens are kept? We'll need to make up the beds."
"Of course," you murmured, standing and crossing the room.
"Here," Elijah said, reaching into his pack and pulling out a bundle. "We brought extra furs," he smiled.
"Thank you," you murmured, feeling his gaze on you.
Niklaus helped your father with the firewood and Elijah followed you to the backroom, helping you pull the linens out.
As soon as you were out of sight from the others, he pulled you into his arms, his lips finding yours.
"I've missed you," he breathed, his lips brushing over your skin.
You pressed your finger to his lips, shushing him. He smiled, his teeth nibbling on the digit. You blushed, and pulled your hand away, taking his hand and placing it on your stomach. His brow furrowed, and he looked down.
"I have a surprise," you whispered, biting your lip.
"A surprise?" He grinned, his hand sliding around to your back, pressing you closer.
"Our baby," you breathed, looking up at him, your heart thudding in your chest.
His eyes widened, and he shook his head.
"Are you certain?"
You nodded, and felt the tears begin to spill down your cheeks. You weren't sure if it was relief, or happiness, or fear, but it all came crashing down.
He wiped the tears from your cheeks, a wide smile on his face.
"Don't cry," he soothed, kissing your forehead. "I will take care of you."
"But my father," you sniffled.
He smiled and took your hand, leading you back into the main room. Your father was sitting at the table, while Niklaus stoked the fire and your mother was cooking, their voices filling the room.
She looked at you, and smiled softly. Your father glanced over, and his eyes narrowed at the sight of your hand in Elijah's.
"What's this?" He asked, his voice stern.
"Sir," Elijah started, swallowing nervously. "I know that we have not known each other long, but I have come to care deeply for your daughter. I would like to ask your permission to take her as my wife."
The silence that followed was deafening. Niklaus froze, and slowly stood, watching the scene unfold. The expression on your father's face was completely unreadable, his eyes focused on the two of you.
"Do you know what you're asking me, boy?"
"Yes, sir," he nodded. "I love her, and I will care for her."
Your father leaned back in his chair, and crossed his arms. His gaze went to Niklaus, who was still standing frozen by the hearth, a deer in the torchlight.
"Is your brother a good man?"
"He is, sir," Niklaus answered, his voice strained.
"Can he provide for her, can he protect her? Can he protect his children?"
"Yes, sir," he nodded.
Your father turned back to Elijah, his eyes narrowing.
"What do you intend to do when the snows have cleared, and the ground thaws?"
"I have found a piece of land not far from here," he explained. "With a river nearby, and plenty of forest. It's close enough to the village that it will not be difficult to travel."
"I see," your father murmured, glancing over at you.
You stared back at him, and tried not to let the hope show on your face.
"My child," he said, his voice soft. "Is this what you want?"
"It is," you nodded.
"I see," he said again, sighing softly. "The gods have spoken. It seems there will be a wedding."
"Sir?" Elijah asked, his voice wavering.
"I'm giving you my blessing," your father smiled.
You let out a happy sob, and threw your arms around Elijah's neck. He lifted you off the floor, his lips finding yours in a joyful kiss. You were dimly aware of the cheering coming from your parents and Niklaus, and you clung to him, the tears spilling down your cheeks.
You could have kissed him forever, but your mother cleared her throat, and you reluctantly pulled away.
 "Come, dinner is ready.” she said, smiling.
Elijah set you down, and gave your hand a squeeze. He led you to the table, and pulled out a chair for you. Niklaus and your parents joined you, and soon the sounds of eating and talking filled the room.
Your mother poured the tea, and you glanced up at Elijah, watching as he ate, his face flushed, his eyes shining. He met your gaze and smiled, a warmth spreading through you.
"Father... I have something else to tell you," you murmured, taking a sip of tea.
"Yes?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"You will have a grandchild soon," you whispered, biting your lip.
This time, the silence that followed wasn't deafening, but absolutely terrifying. The expression on your fathers face went from happy to complete shock. Niklaus choked, and began coughing violently, but you suspected he wasn't choking, but simply trying to cover up his laughter.
Your father's gaze went from you, then to Elijah, who had the good sense to look abashed, before finally settling on your mother, who simply shrugged, and continued to eat.
"So," he finally sighed, rubbing his face. "The wedding should be sooner rather than later."
"Yes, father," you nodded, your voice shaking.
He glanced at you, and reached over, taking your hand.
"You're sure?"
"I am."
You watched his face, and were relieved to see his eyes fill with joy.
"Well," he grinned. "It seems I'm getting an early wedding gift."
"Really?" You squeaked, not quite believing what you were hearing.
"Yes," he laughed. "My little girl is having a baby. What better reason is there to celebrate?”
"Father," you cried, standing and hugging him.
He embraced you, and you could feel the tension melting away.
"The gods are truly smiling down on us," he chuckled, squeezing you tightly.
"They are," you agreed, giving him a watery smile.
"To new beginnings," your mother declared, raising her glass.
"To new beginnings," everyone echoed, and the conversation flowed, wedding plans being made.
As you listened to the conversations going on around you, and felt the warmth of the fire on your skin, and the heat of Elijah's hand resting on your knee, you couldn't help but feel that everything was going to be okay. You couldn't have asked for a better man to spend your life with.
The winter storm would pass, the snow would melt, and the sun would shine down on the village once more.
Spring was just around the corner.

Seven years ago
“What do you mean you’re leaving?”
It all just felt so sudden, and you weren’t sure if you were hallucinating as you heard those words that came out from the mouth of your best friend for the past seventeen years. You both have made a promise to one another since you both were in kindergarten that no matter how big or small the situation may be, you both will always have each other’s backs and that no secrets were to be kept from one another, even if they may feel like you have been punched right into the face during the aftermath of it all.
Or that was what you thought.
“Y/N…I had no control over anything…you do know how my father often has to travel across the globe for his job—”
“But that doesn’t change the fact that you decided to keep it a secret from me when you first discovered that you were potentially going to follow your father’s footsteps for his company.”
From the beginning, you knew that Juyeon’s father worked at a relatively elite corporate company. Because of his status, he was often sent away to various countries to fulfill his job. It has been decades since his father has been in and out of Seoul, and he would often travel on his own not wanting to bother his family and wanting them to have a peaceful life here.
Never in a million years would you have thought that he would bring his entire family along with him as he starts a new chapter in his life in the States, and also get Juyeon to follow in his father’s footsteps.
You were on the verge of crying, your cheeks were heating up, and you had unintentionally balled up your fists, clearly failing terribly to suppress the anger and betrayal you felt.
“I just don’t get it, Juyeon. You have always wanted to pursue basketball. Hell, you have even sought a sports scholarship to get into one of the prestigious universities in Seoul! Why are you giving up now?” You huffed.
You could tell that he was showing some reluctance in his answer, and truthfully, he didn’t really know how to give you an answer, either. But he decided to reply in the most plausible and fitting one that was right for the current situation you both were in.
“Family has to always come first, Y/N. If it were for my family's future, especially my stay-at-home mother and younger brother, I would do anything to ensure my father and I can provide for them.”
You scoffed. “Bullshit.”
You took a few steps forward until you were merely inches apart. Looking straight into Juyeon’s eyes, you could tell he felt the same way and was also trying to hold back his tears.
“You’re not the Juyeon I know. My Juyeon, who has been right by my side ever since we were kids, would always go above and beyond to work for what he truly wants. He is never afraid to voice his opinion, and he would do anything to ensure his happiness would be fulfilled no matter the consequences.”
Finally, the tears that you have held back for so long began dripping down your face as you began to hit him simultaneously on his chest.
“What exactly happened to you, Juyeon?”
At the same time, tears clouded his vision as a single teardrop dripped onto his face. You could tell that something was holding him back from telling you the truth, if any, and his following answer would break you down even more.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.”
With that, a black car pulls up at the school entrance, revealing his younger brother rolling down the window to call out for his big brother. You could see multiple pieces of luggage lined up at the back trunk of the car, and they were ready to head straight to the airport.
With a glance back to signal to his family that he would be coming shortly, he turned to you to apologise once more before gently pushing you away to leave.
“I’m really sorry, Y/N. I wish you all the best in your future as you enter university and eventually the workforce.”
Just like that, Juyeon quickly sped down the stairs and opened the door to the car before settling in. Within seconds, his parents, sitting in the front seats, gave you a little wave before they drove away right through the exit.
Almost instantly, all of the built-up tension was suddenly released from you all at once, and you finally broke down crying at the entrance of your high school. What you thought would be a memorable, happy graduation for you both as you parted ways with your youth years turned out to be one sad separation from your best friend.
You both planned your summer holidays with one another before officially enrolling in university in the autumn. You were going to head to Busan for a five-day trip during the first month, going to visit your aunt who lived on the outskirts of Seoul to help her in her fieldwork (especially when she has a soft spot for Juyeon), and even going to visit all of the bazaars that were going to be held in central Seoul.
There were so many potential activities and times you could have had with one another, and you were even planning to propose to Juyeon that you wanted to be more than just childhood friends.
Because you have been having an insane crush on him since you were kids, and you realised it was love by the time you both entered high school.
Unfortunately, it was too late to confess your love to him, as he was now long gone, heading straight to the airport before he eventually said his final goodbye to his home for the past seventeen years, Seoul.
Maybe it was fate that you both were just not meant to be with one another; perhaps it was why his father had no choice but to bring his whole family with him to start a new life in the States.
For the first time, you cursed and blamed yourself for having such hope and planning a potential future with someone who was clearly out of your league, and you thought it had all been a waste of time since the beginning.
With that, the little needle-felted cat you have been hiding and made last night was released from your grips as he fell towards the stairs and eventually towards the ground. As you noticed, more tears kept welling up in your eyes, and you brought both hands to cover your face, not wanting to care about anything right now.
I shouldn’t have had so much hope. I was stupid enough actually to fall in love with you, Juyeon.

Present Day
“Oh, Y/N! Looks like your article just got published in the London Mail this morning!”
Your co-worker gave you a little pat on the back before he placed the newspapers right onto your desk, and it was clear how your article was published right on the front page with your name written very obviously at the right corner.
“Please, it was nothing. It’s what I do all the time,” you replied bluntly.
“What do you mean it was nothing? You just interviewed the rising actor of the month! That’s big news, and you deserve to celebrate it!"
“Please, it really is nothing—”
“Hey everyone, our department needs a little night out after work at the local pub! We’re toasting to Y/N’s big break in the news today!”
Your co-worker shouted out loud, and eventually, cheers erupted in the office, everyone congratulating you and thinking about the potential drinks and songs they would go for once work is over.
You smiled and chuckled at the sight. You have always loved your job and are grateful to have met such a fantastic group of people in this company.
It wasn’t your dream to pursue the path of becoming a reporter in the beginning. Sure, you have always had a passion for writing, but you have always considered it your hobby. Thanks to your sister, who was studying abroad in Manchester then, who convinced you to take that leap of faith and turn that hobby into a potential job.
So here you were, living the best of your life. You followed your sister’s footsteps and went on to live abroad in the UK, enrolling in the University of Manchester, where you successfully graduated with honours the past year. Thankfully, you secured a place in the London Mail right after graduation due to your outstanding grades.
The move from Manchester to London was a bit tough, but you initially managed to pull through with your sister and her boyfriend's help. They were kind enough to help you settle down and stayed with you for the first couple weeks before returning to Manchester. You miss your sister’s presence, but you know that eventually, you had to venture out on your own and face reality as an adult.
It has been a year, and you have adapted to living alone. Often, things would get tough, but it was also thanks to you having such a fantastic team of colleagues that you were able to pull through it all, even when there were times you had to work overtime to fulfill all of the datelines that were pilling up nonstop, especially during the holiday seasons.
It wasn’t until recently that your article was accepted and published on the main cover page of the news, and that was when you finally earned your big break after a year. The company has deemed you to be one of the most talented youngsters they have had over the past decade, and they were more than happy to have had you as their employee.
Since then, things have settled down for you as you got a pay rise and had fewer hours to give you more time to rest well, mainly when you only survived with four to five hours of sleep daily. Now, you can eat your breakfast correctly and get a good seven to eight hours of sleep before coming every day.
Just as your co-workers were having the time of their lives trying to figure out the plans for tonight after work, your office desk telephone rang, and you picked it up hastily, thinking that you’d have another big scoop to write about
But it was from the CEO.
“Miss Y/N, please report to my office immediately.”
Tumblr media
You were back home after that fun night out at your local pub with your co-workers, holding a beer in hand as you FaceTime your sister over the phone.
“Well, it’s a good opportunity for you, don’t you think, Y/N?”
“I’m not too sure about all of this, sis. Like yeah, it would be great that I would be back home, but still—”
“Hey, I know mom would be ecstatic to have you back in Seoul with her. And it just so happened that you have been telling me how you recently began feeling a little homesick. I’d say it would be great for you to take up the offer.” She reassured.
It was the moment your mouth fell open wide when you heard that you had been offered to be a senior reporter for one of Seoul’s top magazines at the moment, GQ Korea, where you would be interviewing potentially all of the current well-known celebrities in the country and getting a higher pay as well.
It seems that they have come across your contributions from the London Mail, and they were keen to have you on their team. Your first thought was grateful as your works were recognised globally, but also because you miss being home. But another part of you has already settled in the UK, so you weren’t sure if leaving now would be the right choice.
But now that your sister has given you some input, that was when you knew that it wouldn’t hurt to try it out, at the very least.
With one final sip of your beer, you leaned forward and gave your sister a smile for the first time since calling her this evening.
“I’m going home now, sis.”
Tumblr media
It has been a week since you settled into Seoul, and you have loved being back in your comfort zone: the culture, the food, and the environment you grew up in.
Your mom was overjoyed as she picked you up from the airport, insisting she would take your luggage, especially when you have flown almost twenty-four hours just to get home. By the time you got home, your mom was already ready and prepared with all the dishes she had premade before your arrival and needed to heat them quickly.
You quickly took a shower before joining her at the dining table. You both chatted for close to midnight before she told you she would sleep ahead of you. Meanwhile, you decided to clean up your childhood bedroom to make space for everything you brought back from London.
There was this nostalgia as you entered your room; everything was still the same, exactly how you had left it when you left for the UK years ago. The same old blue painting on the wall, all your posters hung on them, even your favourite comic books that were still arranged nicely on your bookshelf.
You could tell there wasn’t a speck of dust in the room, indicating that your mom must have cleaned it occasionally. You couldn’t help but sigh, thinking about all the hard work she always puts herself through.
It took you a while to go through all your belongings, mainly because you were reminiscing as you looked at the pictures, books, and figurines scattered throughout your room.
It wasn’t until you came across a box tucked away at the corners of your room that you pulled them out towards the centre as you opened them up.
And god, you wished you hadn’t done that.
All the pictures and items contained memories you had with your past lover, Lee Juyeon.
You paused momentarily before reaching out to pick up the first item on top of the box: a picture.
It was taken when you both were in kindergarten. You were holding hands, wearing backpacks and little yellow helmets on your heads. You couldn’t help but smile at the sight; it was nostalgic and cute.
Right after that, you took out a pair of bracelets right below the picture. It was a friendship bracelet that you both made during middle school. It was summer when you recently discovered the trend of making friendship bracelets, where you went straight to Juyeon’s house across the street, practically dragged him back to your house, and got him to make one with you. You giggled at the thought of how Juyeon was so lost at the time, having to come to you almost every five seconds to tell you that he had either lost a piece or was having trouble threading the beads through the string.
When you thought it would all be good memories, you stumbled upon the one item you wished you would not have to see again.
The needle-felted cat you made for him on the night before graduation.
Unbeknownst to you, your hands began to tremble as you took the cat into your hands, staring at it as the memories flashed back: how you would give this to Juyeon and tell him that you were ready to be more than just close friends, up to the point of how he suddenly announced to you that he was leaving for good.
Slowly, you felt that your tears were beginning to well up in your eyes, and you quickly dumped all of the items back into the box and tucked them back in the corner, using a few items you had in your room, such as cardboard to block it completely out of sight.
You were not ready to go through all of the roller coasters of emotion once again.
Especially when deep down in your heart, you still had some feelings left for him. Even if you did not wish to admit it out loud.
Tumblr media
You stood outside the tall building as you tried your best to fix up the blazer that your mum insisted you put on for your big day. With your handbag and laptop, you gave yourself a deep breath before mentally preparing yourself that this would be your new workplace from now on.
You looked to see the vast sign plastered outside the building: GQ Korea. You were definitely at the right place. It took you a few seconds to finally be able to take your very first steps into the building. Once you did, you were amazed at the astonishing art that filled the reception floor. It was a fashion and art magazine; after all, there was no doubt that the company's directors entailed such a choice of decorations to captivate everyone who walked into their building.
You walked straight towards the counter, where you were greeted by two ladies who were already expecting your arrival. Immediately, they got you signed up in the system, and one guided you to one of the fifth floors, where you would be meeting your new team and department that you would be working with.
As you were guided into the head of the department’s office, Ms Kim, who has been guiding and overlooking this particular department for the past five years, greeted you and made you feel comfortable instantly, which made all of your tensed-up muscles relax fairly quickly. She communicated well with you and, surprisingly, even shared some of the same ideals as you did. You were beyond grateful to hear when she mentioned that she has kept up with your works from the London Mail, and it was about time that the team needed someone like you.
Once both of you had taken the time to break the ice, Ms Kim led you to your desk just outside her office, where countless cubicles filled the entire floor. At first glance, you have estimated that there were about fifty employees who worked in this department. It didn’t take them long to greet you personally before you eventually made your way to your desk in the middle of the floor.
As you unloaded your bag of materials onto the desk and placed them in an organised manner, your hands digging through your bag finally stopped when you felt a familiar material. Instantly, you pulled it out to check what it was, and you were once again left speechless with what it was.
A picture of you and Juyeon back during your graduation from high school.
The only plausible reason it was in your workbag was because of your mother. You have never once told her that things ended badly between you both, and you have always shrugged off the fact that you were still keeping in touch with the man himself and that you both were still having a healthy friendship. You just didn’t want her to worry much, especially when she knew how much you both have been through, and she practically treated Juyeon like her own son.
As all loving mothers would do, she woke up hours ahead of you this morning to prepare you a filling bento box. She wrapped it with traditional cloth and placed it neatly into your work bag. At the same time, she probably put the little picture frame into the bag, hoping it would motivate you during work and decorate your new workplace.
With just a few seconds of staring at it, you looked down to see an empty trash bin that sat right beneath your work desk, and without thinking much, you immediately placed the picture right into it.
I’m sorry, mom. But I will not be needing it anymore.
Tumblr media
Your first week of work flew by quickly as you easily got used to the working lifestyle. Seoul was your home, and it wasn’t hard to adapt back to the culture. In fact, you were grateful that your new group of co-workers could be on par with the ones back in London; they were all as great and supportive in helping you ease into the new environment. Your new co-workers even encouraged you to head out for a little drink at the local izakaya restaurant after work since it has been a long weekend for everyone, and you surely did enjoy the little company you had before heading home a little after midnight.
In terms of fitting in as GQ Korea's new reporter, it has been a thrilling ride learning about all of the entertainment biz that has been going on in the country. Since your forte was with celebrities, your head of department had assigned you the same, focusing on the rising K-Pop stars in the industry.
It has been a while since you kept up with Korean celebrities since you mainly focused on Western artists abroad for a couple of years. But as you kept up with the news and made sure to read the newspaper first thing every morning you came right in, you made sure that you have been kept up to date with all of the latest announcements and events that have been going on in the industry.
Today was a big day for you as Ms Kim had instructed you to head up to the top floor, where you would first meet up with the CEO for the very first time since joining the company as he would like to brief you through the details in regards to the celebrities that will be coming later in the day.
You thought it was probably some hotshot celeb for the CEO to personally guide you through each step regarding what or how you should deal with them. However, you weren’t too mad since you figured they probably did things differently here in Seoul.
As you finally reached the top floor, you were then escorted by whom you assumed to be the CEO’s personal assistant, who was already expecting your arrival as they kindly let your head department know that she was free to leave. The walk down the hallway towards the CEO’s office seemed a little daunting to you for some reason; perhaps it was also because you were meeting someone who is considered to be one of the famous people in the heart of Seoul—there’s a reason why GQ Korea is always on the top-selling markets.
As the assistant kindly knocked on the door and got a verbal cue from the other side, she took a step behind to let you move forward as you slowly turned the doorknob to enter the room.
Immediately, you notice how the entire office is decorated extravagantly, filled with tons of high-end decorations that suit the taste of the CEO himself. The wide, clear windows dominated most of the room, offering a panoramic cityscape view. A curated selection of artwork filled the walls, which added a little personal touch to the working space.
You didn’t realise that your mouth was wide open as you slowly took in the mesmerising view until you turned towards the desk, where the CEO was sitting on his chair with his back facing you, flipping through multiple documents in his hands.
As you slowly made your way towards him, your little footsteps made the CEO’s ears perk up, causing the man to stand up and finally turn to face you in person for the first time.
With that, your entire world seemed to pause for a moment.
What exactly was going on? There was no way this young man could be the CEO, especially when you were certain that he had left Seoul years ago and sworn that his chances of returning to his homeland would be close to zero. Your laptop in hand was slowly beginning to slip off before you were brought back to reality and quickly caught it before it eventually hit the ground.
That was when you finally muttered your first words since stepping into the CEO’s office.
“J-Juyeon…?”
It was pretty evident that the man himself was just as confused and shocked as you were; he practically stood there motionless, trying his best to make sense of the current situation.
“Y-Y/N? What are you doing here?”
“I should be the one asking you that,” you replied.
You were about to go haywire just from this interaction alone. It was hard enough for you to move on from what happened seven years ago, and it proved to be a lot harder than you thought when you came back a few weeks ago to see that all of the things that you’ve tried so hard to forget were now back in the comforts of your bedroom.
Ever since then, you had promised yourself that you wouldn’t want anything to do with Juyeon anymore, and you have decided to shut your heart regarding anything related to the man himself.
If only it were easier said than done.
Juyeon finally took his first step away from his desk as he slowly approached you, extending his hand as if he was craving your touch again. You could tell that he was desperate for a little physical contact, perhaps to prove that you really stood in front of him.
But you couldn’t, and you weren’t ready for any of that, so you backed off instead, giving him a clear signal that you weren’t on the same page as he was.
There was this evident sadness in his eyes, and he tried his best to hold back his tears as his eyes began to water.
“Y/N…I—”
“Miss L/N. You can address me that, Mr. Lee,” you bluntly replied before diverting your attention to the ground.
It was when Juyeon finally got himself together and straightened his posture before clearing his throat. “Very well, Miss L/N. I’ll quickly brief you on the events happening today, with the group of celebrities arriving in a couple of hours soon. Please, have a seat.”
Tumblr media
“I hate him, I really do!” You screamed at the top of your lungs as you took the pint of beer in your hands before slamming it down onto the table. Your sister had to restrain you from causing a scene at the bar, trying to settle you down and handing you a glass of water to chug down your system.
Your sister had just recently came back to Seoul for a little vacation, and you immediately asked that she could keep you accompany down at the local izakaya restaurant that you often visited to let off some steam.
“Karma is really on your side huh, Y/N,” your sister teased.
“I-It’s not funny, sissy….” your voice began to slur, indicating that you were starting to get drunk at this point. “Why…of all people, why?! Why did it have to be him? As my boss! In my new workplace!”
“Look, it can’t be that bad. Who knows, maybe you might get another chance again with him.”
“That’s not the point, sissy….after what he has done to me? After all that I have done to try my best to move on from the past? This should not be happening to me at all!” Your voice broke as you began tearing up, causing your sister to pull you close into her embrace, slowly caressing your back to help soothe you a little.
Your sister was well aware of your history with Juyeon, especially when you’ve spent weeks, which eventually that turned into months of crying out to her over the phone since she was already studying abroad then, she knew how much the whole situation wrecked you badly, to the point that it has taken you months to start going out and meeting people outside of university eventually.
She was there when you were both younger, seeing how you developed a crush on him later and knowing you weren’t just childhood friends and had something way more than that. It was a shame that Juyeon left without telling you, and she would’ve gone to the airport to confront him about it if only she had been back in Seoul then. But deep down, she knew Juyeon as much as you did and knew that suddenly, something probably came up for him to leave the country like that.
As a matter of fact, your sister had always wished and rooted for you both to become a couple eventually; she had always been a firm believer of childhood friends to lovers anyway, especially when that was how she ended up with her current fiancé. Now that you both have reunited in the most unexpected way, she believes her theory about you both eventually having a second chance was stronger than ever before.
With that, she lifted her eyebrows as if she had just come up with a brilliant idea. “Say, little sis. What exactly are you up to at work tomorrow?”
You sniffled. “Umm…I guess I have a meeting with Juyeon to discuss the upcoming fashion show that is due to be set in a couple of months. Why do you ask?”
Your sister gave you a little smirk in return before cradling you like a baby again. “Oh, it was nothing. I’m sure you’ll have a fruitful discussion tomorrow.”
Tumblr media
You dreaded coming to work today. The very first reason is that you woke up with a really bad hangover from last night, and you practically don’t remember much that has happened besides chugging down pints of beer from your system. It has been a while since you’ve drank this much, and most importantly, because you were upset over something. Otherwise, you were pretty much sober most of the time and always being the one to drag your co-workers home because they were far worse than you were.
And, of course, it was also because you hated the idea that you must come face-to-face with your so-called ex-childhood best friend again—this time, in an actual meeting. Well, in some ways, you were glad that it was only a meeting for a potentially massive event that the company had been known to host for years and that Juyeon would probably be able to distinguish between personal and work-life issues.
But still, you just weren’t ready to face him again, especially with the huge shock you’d received the day before. It was already hard enough for you to stay focused when Juyeon briefed you through your job scope and the meeting you would have for the day, trying your best not to let the tears drip down nor let the anger boil up.
However, you had no choice since you must also stay professional at your work. You just got back to Korea, and there was no way you would chicken out and move everything back to the UK again. Well, potentially, you could, but it wouldn’t be an ethical move to make.
So here you are, hugging your documents and laptop towards your chest, standing outside the meeting room. You had to take a few deep breaths before you could muster up the courage to turn the doorknob and enter the room.
Once you did, you noticed how the entire room was filled up, with most of your co-workers in their designated seats, sorting through the documents they would use for the meeting. You immediately diverted your attention towards the front where Juyeon was seated, and you hated how you had actually spent a good minute admiring his features.
He wore a simple beige coat over a white tee, paired with a pair of black slim pants with leather shoes. His black hair was styled all the way back, leaving a little strand of hair down on his forehead. He was busy flipping through his documents while setting up his laptop to project the PowerPoint slides for everyone to see.
You just hated how extremely good-looking he was right now and that there was a high chance that you wouldn’t concentrate on your work throughout the next hour.
And how you would actually want to run into his embrace and give him a little peck on the lips—
Wait, what?
As Juyeon finally lifted his head from the monitor and looked at everyone else in the room, it was a sign that the meeting was about to commence, and you quickly took the still available seat, the front seat.
Throughout the presentation, you tried your best to take in everything that Juyeon- well, your CEO, was trying to convey to his employees. It turns out that this upcoming fashion show would be one of the most crucial ones the company has ever done for years, especially now that all the big brands are willing to collaborate with GQ Korea and put out the best fashion show in the country.
It was quite a breathtaking look to see how Juyeon was passionate about his job, talking and explaining each detail to his employees carefully while making it enjoyable for everyone to learn or be part of. With that, you have noticed how every single employee in the room was constantly taking down details as quickly as lightning, making sure not to miss out on any small detail. There were moments when some would raise their hands to ask further questions, and Juyeon was more than happy to answer them, making the whole meeting seem less stressful but instead quite engaging in return.
There were times when you found yourself staring at him more than you should’ve, and every time he diverted his attention towards you, you would quickly duck your head down to look back at your laptop as if you were busy typing away on your notes.
Time seemed to have passed quickly as Juyeon finally wrapped up the meeting and let everyone off. In fact, the meeting ended right at the dot, and it was just past noon, meaning it was lunchtime for all employees. Everyone was quick to dash through the door, their stomach grumbling after using up all of the energy for the meeting. For you, you decided to pack up your belongings at your own pace, knowing that you would be spending your lunch back at your cubicle with the little bento box your mother had packed for you this morning.
As you are about to head straight for the door, the familiar voice stops you in your tracks, making you turn your head back to face the man himself.
“Miss L/N, I would like to have a word with you.”
Oh, god. It’s here.
Mentally, you were cursing out all the vulgar words you knew at the back of your mind as you slowly approached your CEO, trying your best not to let out the croak in your voice.
“Y-Yes, may I help you, Mr Lee?”
“There is a place that I have to pay a short visit, and I would like you to keep me company.”
Tumblr media
Whenever an employer or the CEO would address their employees to keep them company as they pay a visit to a certain location, it usually meant that it was to meet up with a client or to survey certain products or places that could significantly be crucial for the company’s success.
But here you were, sitting in one of the fancy cafes that wasn’t far from the office, having lunch with your CEO, who was sitting in front of you.
Juyeon said nothing along the way as he brought you to the cafe, insisting that you sit down and order from the menu with no questions asked. As awkward as it was, you were about to deny his request before he looked straight down towards the menu, not even glancing at you.
You figured this was probably part of the job, and there was no way you would deny your CEO’s request right here and then, especially when it was working hours and everything was strictly business.
Once both of you have made your orders to the waitress that just passed by a minute ago, you diverted your attention towards the tablecloth, not wanting to look straight at Juyeon. However, his deep voice caught your attention, and you lifted your head back up after hearing the words you had wanted to say for the past seven years.
“I think it’s about time I told you the truth, Y/N.”
Oh, he called you by your name.
As you focus your attention right on him, you can see the sadness in his eyes once more, just like how it was back when you first encountered him in his office the day before.
“Umm…with due respect Mr Lee—”
“Juyeon is fine. We’re outside of work, Y/N. I would appreciate it if you could talk to me like we used to, and I will do the same,” he responded, slowly resting his arms on the tablecloth as if he were leaning slightly closer to you.
With that you took a significantly big gulp, knowing that the day you longed for was finally here. You were about to get the answers you desperately needed to know, but at the same time, you weren’t so sure if you wanted to know the truth right now, especially with all of the things that you have gone through trying your best to take him out of your life completely.
“Will you please give me a chance to listen to what I have to say?” He pleaded, looking at you with a desperate look in his eyes.
Your gut and mind were trying to tell you that you have done your best to completely eliminate him in your life for the past seven years. Would you give up easily and open your enclosed heart just like that? After all of the hard work that you have done?
Say no, Y/N. You have gotten over the guy. It’s all over between you two—
“Yeah. Go on.”
Goddammit, Y/N.
Immediately, his eyes lit up upon your words, and his shoulders slumped down a little, indicating that he has relaxed a bit.
“Oh, thank god, Y/N. I guess you were still the same old Y/N that I remembered—”
“You said we’re not employers and employees now, so I’d say cut to the chase with what you have to say while you can, Juyeon,” you bluntly replied as you crossed your arms around you.
In return, Juyeon gave you a little weak smile and a sigh before he eventually diverted his full attention to you.
“Remember when we got separated back in high school? During our graduation day, you—”
“You left me behind, Juyeon.”
“I didn’t have a choice back then, Y/N. But now I’m here to tell you everything. You have no idea how our stomach dropped when my father came home and told us that his company was about to go bankrupt, and we were on the verge of losing everything.”
So that was what happened.
“And how it was also the day my mother found out that she had cancer and her chances of recovery were lower than expected.”
“J-Juyeon…w-why didn’t you tell me all of this?”
“I wanted to. I really wanted to so badly, Y/N. Because you’re my best friend, and you deserve to know everything. But I just didn’t know how to, and I was afraid of what might happen, and I don’t want to put the pressure on you.”
“W-Where are they now, then?”
Juyeon had to take in a big breath before choosing his following words wisely, knowing it must’ve been hard to even talk about it publicly. “Mom became bedridden, and she’s still receiving treatment in one of the hospitals back in the States. Dad is currently running a small little shop near the hospital along with my little brother.”
“Then, why did you come back here?”
“I came back because starting a proper company there was tough. I figured there might be a slight chance things could work out here in Seoul. With the remaining funds we had, I eventually begged my dad to give his final trust in me as I found a way to make things work out. Luckily, we had some acquaintances back here, and they helped me get into one of the prestigious universities and eventually landed me a job here at GQ Korea. I started as a normal employee before I eventually became their CEO a year prior.”
It was then you noticed a single teardrop on the verge of dripping down his face from the corners of his eyes. Naturally and unbeknownst to you, your hand reached for the tissues placed neatly on the table, and you leaned in to wipe away that single teardrop.
Only then did you both realise what you were doing, and that was when your eyes widened, and you were about to prop down back to your seat.
That was until Juyeon grabbed your wrist, not wanting to let you go.
“This teardrop is nothing, Y/N. I’m so sorry you have to see this side of me. It’s not very cool, I guess,” he chuckled, trying his best to lighten up the mood a bit.
As soon as he says those words, your other free hand eventually finds itself on Juyeon’s shoulders, causing the male’s eyes to widen this time before you finally speak out the words that you have always wanted to tell straight to his face all those years ago.
“Juyeon, you need to start learning to put yourself before others. And I really mean it.”
“Y/N, I—”
“No buts. Even after all these years, you’re still the same as before, always prioritising others before your own. As much as you are the most kind-hearted soul I’ve ever seen, you need to start loving and giving yourself some credit,” you replied, adding a little pressure onto your grip on his shoulders.
With that, none of you said a word for a good couple of seconds, and you both just spent the entire time staring into each other's eyes as if you were conveying your messages non-verbally. That was until Juyeon finally decided to break the tension off by smiling at you, a genuine one you had consistently grown to love back then.
“So, am I back in your good graces now, princess?”
You were finally brought back to your senses, and you quickly removed both hands from him and sat down swiftly back on your chair, ducking your head down while giving a slight pout.
Juyeon missed this sight of you and was absolutely admiring the whole situation that unfolded before him. Just then, both of your meals arrived, and the same waitress from before gently placed each of your respective ones in front of you. Juyeon then gently placed the cutlery in front of you.
“Dig in,” he mentioned before whipping out the napkin and placing it right on his lap, before going in with his cutlery to cut through his steak.
In return, you swiftly picked up yours and roughly cut through your freshly cooked breaded cod fish.
“No one calls a normal friend princess, Lee freaking Juyeon,” you mumbled.
Tumblr media
Just when you thought that would be the only time you would actually spend some time alone with Juyeon, it turns out the male had perceived that you both were back just the way you were when you were kids.
Since that day, Juyeon would actually make his way out to invite you often to join lunch with him at the same cafe, usually ordering a different dish from the wide selection of food on the menu. What Juyeon loved the most about the place was the ambience and good coffee, and he would always be seen ordering a big jumbo-sized cup of iced latte to bring back to his office to help get through the rest of the day.
You, on the other hand, were often stuck with more or less the same few dishes that you’ve tried, and you, too, would order your usual iced americano back to the office once you both were done with the meal.
At first, you have always tried your best to avoid having contact with him; that first lunch date was just a typical day, as you would try to convince yourself. But whenever Juyeon gets a little break out from the office, he would either send you a personal email or sometimes ask his personal assistant to come down to your department to inform you to wait for the man down at the lobby at noon.
You obviously could do your very best to come up with excuses to let him know that you’re busy with something or you already have plans to eat with your co-workers, but it seemed that the heart does what it wants, and it does not align with the signals that your brain is trying to tell you; which is to avoid and cut off this whole friendship for good.
So you were back to being the giddy seventeen-year-old little girl who often felt excited whenever you spent time with your childhood friend. Hence, every time you were taking the very last escalator down to the lobby, you would often use that little time to admire the way Juyeon would always lean against one of the pillars while swiping through his phone with one hand and keeping the other one inside the pocket of his coat.
But you did not want to admit it just yet, so you would constantly remind yourself that he’s only back for a while; it wouldn’t be so easy to open up your ice-cold heart again.
That was until today.
Just a few days prior, Juyeon had given you a ticket to visit this huge Christmas market in the town centre. At first, you stared at the paper blankly, thinking it was all a joke and he couldn’t have gone with you. But the male made it clear that he invited you to come along, which would be the two of you together.
Your heart was bouncing so fast that you were afraid it would eventually pop out of your chest as you slowly approached where you both were supposed to meet. You figured it best that you arrived twenty minutes earlier to compose yourself and try to understand your situation.
As you paced back and forth for god knows how long, you finally heard your name being called out from the far distance, and you perked your head up to see that Juyeon was waving his hands and running towards you like he used to back when he was a kid.
Once he finally stopped right in front of you, he began panting heavily to the point you were genuinely worried if this man was actually alright.
“Woah, what the hell happened to you? You seemed like you were escaping from a monster or something,” you joked.
“N-No…I went to get this for you…” Juyeon then hands you a brown paper bag, and you accept it while being all confused.
“Open it, Y/N. Have a look at what’s inside,” he insisted before resting both hands on his hips.
While giving Juyeon a weird look, you finally peeped into the bag and extended your arm into the brown bag before you finally felt something soft against your palms and eventually pulled whatever it was out.
Your eyes widened when you saw what it was.
“J-Juyeon…this…”
“Remember way back in high school; we promised each other that we would want to visit the Christmas markets, and how badly did you want this soft alpaca plushie that was way too expensive for neither of us to get our hands on? Yeah, I actually got it before the store closed like minutes ago.”
He remembered.
You have always been vocal about wanting this plushie for years, and there was no way your parents were buying it for you, claiming that it was way too expensive (which it was since it was part of a collaboration with one of the high-end fashion companies) and that you wouldn’t have a proper use for it. Back then, Juyeon couldn’t do anything but reassure you that one day, your wish would definitely come true while always giving you pinky promises.
And now, you were finally receiving your biggest Christmas wishlist item as an adult, and you couldn’t be much happier.
You laughed. “Juyeon, you do realise that I’m not a child anymore, right?”
“Who says plushies are only meant for young children? Why can’t adults have their collection? I’ll tell you I have a Build-A-Bear in my bedroom.”
“You must be joking.”
“Mark my words, Y/N.”
Eventually, you both started laughing out loud before you hugged the plushie close to you, activating the heating function in the toy to keep yourself warm; that was the main purpose that made you want to purchase this product long ago.
“Thank you, Juyeon.”
“Well, instead of thanking me, why don’t you keep me company for the night as we explore this Christmas market together?”
You smiled. “With pleasure.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, Juyeon~ Have I ever told you how much I’ve admired your good looks? I’d like to think that your family genes are something else.”
After an hour or two of walking through the entire Christmas market and having too much fun going to each stall and trying out the different activities and food, you eventually stumbled upon one located towards the furthest end and sold various eggnog drinks. You have never tried this particular alcoholic beverage before; you were mostly used to the beers that you often get back in the pubs in London. However, Juyeon insisted that you give it a go especially for the Christmas season, and he eventually bought both of you a mug.
The initial taste seemed a bit off to you, but once the alcohol started kicking in, you eventually began to chug the whole liquid down as if it were nobody’s business. After some time, one mug of eggnog began turning into two, and then three, and finally, you were pretty sure that you were on your fifth mug by now.
That was when Juyeon realised that he should’ve stopped you by your second or third mug because now you were barely walking properly without his aid, and your speech began to slur as he linked your arms over his shoulders, trying his best to support you while walking you back home.
You both had to take the subway trains to head back to your apartment and during the entire time, you were clingy with your childhood friend, often wrapping your arms around him and giving him a tight squeeze while mumbling incoherent words. You caught the attention of all passengers and passersby, but Juyeon could only smile at how you looked right now.
He had never seen you drunk before, and this was a whole new experience for him. But he wasn’t too mad that you reminded him so much of your younger self; it was as if he was witnessing the seven-year-old you again in the present day.
After walking from the subway and, eventually, towards your front door to your apartment, Juyeon was about to take you up towards the elevator until you stopped him in his tracks.
“No Juyeon~ why are you leaving me so early? We still have so much more to see in the market!”
He smiled. “Y/N, I think it’s time for you to head home to get some rest.”
“But I don’t wanna~”
With that, Juyeon grabbed hold of both your shoulders as he bent down to be on the same eye level as you, trying his best to talk to you in your drunken stage.
“Y/N, I’ll see you tomorrow, hmm? We’ve had loads of fun today, and besides, your mom and sister would be worried sick about you at this late hour.”
Immediately, you lifted your pinky at him, which caused the male to stare at you blankly. “Pinky promise that I get to see you tomorrow, Juyeon-ie?”
Oh, how insanely adorable you were to Juyeon right now.
He chuckled before linking his pinky with yours, shaking it left and right slightly as if to seal the agreement. “I promise, we’ll see each other in the office first thing tomorrow morning.”
With the final pinky shake, Juyeon guided you towards the elevator and pressed the button. As you both waited for the elevator to come down to the ground floor, you suddenly broke off the silence, and Juyeon had to blink twice to know he wasn’t hearing things wrong.
“I’ve always liked you Juyeon…even after all these years…I never stopped loving you…” you sobbed.
Your nose was now sniffling, and you closed your eyes to let the tears drip down, not caring what Juyeon would think about all this. You were done trying to hold it back for so long, and you needed to let the burden that you’ve held onto for years finally let loose, and well, you were drunk at this point, so you couldn’t really control the words that slipped out from your mouth.
“Why did you leave me just like that…did you know how much pain it has caused…and how hard I’ve tried to forget every single thing about you? I even threw away all of the pictures and toys we’d had together because the flashbacks of memories would often play in my mind upon seeing them,” you were now crying, and you began to raise your voice a little.
“Why, Juyeon, WHY!!” You screamed at the top of your lungs, and immediately you burst out crying, plopping straight down onto the concrete floor. You hated how the alcohol wasn’t making you think straight and that you were feeling a roller coaster of emotions right now.
Just let it out, Y/N. You’ve suffered long enough—
Immediately, a warm pair of arms wrapped around you, and a hand gently pushed your head down to let you rest on the crook of their neck. You finally glanced up to see that it was Juyeon, holding you tight and resting his chin on the top of your head.
As much as you want to push yourself away from him, you can’t. You couldn’t explain why, and you have even made a pact to yourself that you wouldn’t want anything associated with him anymore.
But why did the saying the heart wants what it wants have to be so accurate?
You hated it, hated how you have always let your emotions take full control over your mind, not making you think straight, and often going against your plans. In fact, your heart ached so badly, and it was the same feeling that you felt seven years ago, right when Juyeon left you alone as he hopped onto his vehicle.
The only thing you could do right now was to let the stream of tears pour down and cry out to your heart’s content. You felt weak, and you could do nothing to push him away.
Juyeon couldn’t blame you, though, because how could he? Especially when he was the one who said nothing all those years ago. Now, he was seeing with his own eyes how much pain and trouble it has cost you, turning you into a vulnerable little petite girl who was crying her heart out in his arms.
With that, he moved his lips down to plant a little kiss on your head and eventually closed his eyes as your cries filled up his eyedrums.
“I’ll make it work, Y/N. I promise you that I’ll make things work this time.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, good fucking hell.”
You were sitting on your work desk, bringing your hands to cover up your face. It was an absolute nightmare to hear from your sister about what happened the night before—how you got drunk and caused a little scene in public, which made everyone turn their attention towards you, how Juyeon was the one who brought you all the way back home, how you had a breakdown in front of him to the point you eventually fell asleep after crying your eyes out to the point he had to physically gave you a piggyback up to your front door and assisted your sister to plop you down on your bed.
If there was a nearby cliff near your workplace, you would do anything to ditch work and actually head straight up there to jump off from the embarrassment.
You were already not having a good time reuniting with Juyeon, let alone trying to sort your emotions out while seeing him at work every day and that he was your boss. But to confess your deepest thoughts while being vulnerable and drunk in front of him? That was not written anywhere in your books.
As you were spending your entire lunch break groaning over what happened last night, you immediately received a call from your desk telephone, and you quickly composed yourself before picking the phone up.
“Y-Yes, hello? This is L/N from the editorial department; how may I assist you for the day?”
“Good afternoon, Miss L/N. Please report to the CEO’s office immediately whenever you can.”
Oh, Jesus take the wheel.
Tumblr media
The entire walk up to the CEO’s office was nerve-wracking; it was as if you were being sent to detention at the principal’s office because you messed up really badly. So many thoughts ran through your mind, thinking about how to apologise to Juyeon for the scene you had caused the day prior.
Once you walked into his office, you tried your best to devise the best phrase to start the conversation, but it seemed that Juyeon beat you to it, immediately handing you a red ginseng hangover drink.
You reluctantly accepted it while mumbling a soft ‘thank you’ before he insisted that you drink it immediately before him. Once you were done, he took the bottle away and tossed it straight into the bin, directly briefing you about the upcoming fashion show, now only a month away.
Now that it was back to business and you were no longer childhood friends, you tried your best to keep your composure as you listened to all of the details he was going through one by one with you.
Eventually, he decided to bring you along to meet up with one of the CEOs of the high-end brands on a trip to Seoul to discuss the plan in person further. Apparently, you have met with the CEO of Fendi, and it’s one of the brands that have been associated with GQ Korea for decades now. Somehow, Juyeon has gotten pretty close with the famous man himself over the years.
All of you met up in the famous Four Seasons Hotel for a pretty luxurious high-tea session while discussing the whole fashion show. It was mostly just Juyeon conversing with the CEO himself; you were mainly there to take down all the essential notes that both parties spoke.
Usually, it would have been his personal assistant job, but he insisted that you come along this time, saying it was part of your training. To be completely honest, you weren’t sure if Juyeon was the one mixing up between work and personal life issues at this point. All you wanted to do was to pray that this meeting gets over and done with quickly so that you could head back towards the comforts of your cubicle in the office and not face Juyeon for a while.
After an hour or so, it seemed as if the meeting was wrapped, and both parties finally parted ways for now, causing you to head straight back to Juyeon’s vehicle. Many people would think most CEOs would have their chauffeur, but Juyeon insisted that he always preferred to drive alone.
He was still the chatterbox that you have always remembered back in the day, how we would often come up with any possible topic that would keep you entertained; you both could talk for days back then only if both of your families didn’t stop you from heading back home for meal time.
There was only one problem this time: you were still troubled by what had happened the day before, and it was hard enough to even join Juyeon for this meeting with the CEO of Fendi in the first place. Now that both of you were alone in the car, things were far more awkward than they already were. Juyeon never touched on the topic from last night, but still, you couldn’t bring yourself to look at him in the face.
Just when you thought Juyeon was about to take the left turn to head back towards the office, he took the other lane instead and drove towards the opposite direction.
“Juyeon, the office is the other way—”
“Let’s go somewhere, Y/N. Treat this as a little gift of stepping out of office hours for a bit. You’ll still get paid, though; don’t worry. I’ll make sure to inform your head department about your absence.”
What on earth is going through your mind, Juyeon?
Tumblr media
It has been a few minutes since you have physically pressed yourself against the tank, slowly admiring various species swimming about minding their own business.
Apparently, you both have arrived at the COEX Aquarium, known for homing a large variety of rare species of aquatic animals and typically the best place for school trips, holidays, and even as a date.
Wait, scratch that last one—
“Didn’t you always say how coming here has been on your bucket list for the longest time?” Juyeon questioned you as he slowly walked up towards where you were from behind, slipping both of his hands into his cloak as he, too, began admiring the beauty in front of him.
That was when you finally diverted your attention to his face for the first time since hopping into his car this morning to head to the hotel. You were upset at yourself with how the feelings were the same as before: his pretty sculpted facial features, how good-looking he actually was, and how he could do the bare minimum, yet you would still swoon over the man himself.
With all that has happened lately, something told you this was more than friend behaviour. Sure, Juyeon might be trying his best to patch up this whole relationship you once had, taking you to places and recreating new memories with one another, but you weren’t sure if Juyeon felt the same way as you did.
That deep feeling within the pit of your stomach made you feel uncomfortable, and it was about time you finally confronted him about the one question that had pondered at the back of your mind for the longest time.
If both of you wanted to continue whatever was happening between you, you needed to get the specific answer first.
And it has to be now.
“Juyeon, can I ask you something?”
He hummed. “Yeah, go ahead.”
With that, you turned your entire body facing him and took a deep breath to figure out the right words to convey your feelings for the man himself. “I meant what I said the night before.”
That alone was enough to get his full attention, as he was now slowly turning himself fully towards you as if he was staring straight into your soul. You wanted to chicken out so badly and tell him it was nothing, and you both could just continue with the silence. But you have already come so far, and you know that this will only continue to haunt you for as long as you live if you aren’t going to address it now.
So you mustered up every bit of courage left within you, and opened your mouth again.
“I never stopped loving you, Juyeon. Even though we have lost contact for so many years, I never once stop thinking about you every single day. As much as I’ve tried so hard to forget about you, hell, I threw everything that reminded me of you into the dumpster or boxes and kept them deep somewhere where I wouldn’t even think about searching for it ever again, but to no avail.”
Your body began to tremble as you tried to calm yourself down by playing with your fingers. “I couldn’t, Juyeon. Every time I thought I have succeeded in getting rid of you from my life for good, the thought of you just somehow finds its way to creep back up in my mind.”
“I have no idea if karma sent me back here to Seoul, especially when my career was doing well in London. Imagine coming back and discovering that my new employer is someone I’ve tried so hard to forget about? The mixed emotions I felt then were insufferable.”
As you began to speak more, tears started welling up in your eyes, causing your heartbeat to rise rapidly. But you decided to press on and choke back on your tears.
“With all that you have done for me for the past weeks and months, I truly have no idea what on earth you are trying to prove to me, Lee Juyeon. Are you trying to fix our broken friendship? Or is it something more? What exactly are you even planning to do, Juyeon?”
Finally, you took a few steps closer until you were inches away from him.
“Be honest with me now, Juyeon. What exactly am I to you?”
There was this tense moment between you two, and neither of you said a word to one another. You were looking straight at your childhood friend with red, puffy eyes, and his eyes were widened, looking at you and trying his best to take in everything you’d said.
Something tells you that it was best not to hear about Juyeon’s opinions at all for the fear of rejection once more. If you had the power to dissect his mind to determine his thoughts and feelings about all of this, you would. Yet, you were still afraid of what might happen next.
As you wait for his response, you slowly examine how his shoulders began to slump, and eventually he tries his best to talk some sense into you.
“Y/N, I—”
“Ah! It’s Juyeon-ie!”
The both of you immediately darted your head towards where the voice was coming from, and that was when you noticed a female running towards Juyeon while waving her hands, and a rather old man accompanied her.
Who could it be?
“Saeran? And Uncle Lee? What are you two doing here?” Juyeon questioned as the two individuals made their way towards you. It was also then they both noticed your presence and the soft-spoken young lady was the one who broke the ice.
“You must be?”
“O-Oh, I umm—”
“She’s Y/N; she used to be my neighbour back in the days when I was still living in Seoul.”
Just a neighbour, huh?
“Ah, Y/N!” The young female extended her hand for a little handshake, in which you awkwardly return the favour. “It’s a pleasure to meet you in person finally! Juyeon has spoken a lot about you.”
Before you could even give a reply, it seemed that the older man whom you now know was his uncle, or rather, perceived that he was the one who managed to help Juyeon get a new start in life back here in Seoul, finally spoke and diverted Juyeon’s attention back to what they were here for in the first place.
“We had made a little appointment this afternoon, don’t you remember, Juyeon?”
“Oh, yes! I’m so sorry. It must’ve completely slipped my mind since I have been pretty caught up with work lately,” Juyeon apologised while slightly bowing towards his uncle.
“Not at all, Juyeon. I’m sure you must’ve been pretty busy with-” his uncle then diverts his attention towards you. “-a lot of things.”
You definitely felt way too uncomfortable at the moment, and you needed to get out of the aquarium right this second if you did not wish to be suffocated by all of the tension in the air.
Immediately, you gently removed your hands from the young female and quickly made a ninety-degree bow towards all of them.
“My humble apologies, it seems that I have disrupted an important meeting. I shall take my leave now.”
As soon as you turned your heel towards the other direction, you suddenly felt a pair of hands grab your wrist, stopping you in your tracks.
“Y/N! Wait, I’ll drive you back—”
“No, it’s fine,” you tried your best to smile at him. “I’ll just take the train located right outside the aquarium. Have a good day.”
You instantly slip your hands off his grip and dash straight towards the front door, trying your best not to look back and ignore the tears dripping down your face as you walk down the steps towards the subway.
Tumblr media
It was now week two of cutting off all contact with Juyeon. It hadn’t been easy for you both at work and personally. In fact, you haven’t been doing great at all. It was as if you had turned into a living zombie, often feeling rather emotionless and drowning yourself in paperwork and avoiding contact with another except for your head of department.
Since Juyeon was still your employer and CEO, he has definitely tried all means of contacting you, asking to see if you were doing okay or trying to get you up to his office to talk about the fashion show, or rather, to talk things out. But every single time, you would find ways to decline his request as best as possible while respecting him as your boss first and foremost.
After a week of declining his invitations, his messages and calls eventually stopped coming a week ago; it was as if he had completely vanished for a little while. From what you have heard, it seemed that he had some urgent matters that he had to deal with, causing him to leave the office into the hands of his assistant for now.
It was finally a little breather for you since you didn’t have to put on this facade for the time being, letting you let loose for a bit. Going through sleepless nights throughout the past couple of weeks definitely has taken a toll on your mental well-being.
You told yourself you needed to hold it all in for another week. Once this whole fashion show is done, you will get your well-deserved vacation off work for one week.
It’ll be alright. Things will definitely work out in one way or another, Y/N.
Tumblr media
It was finally the day for the long-awaited fashion show hosted by GQ Korea and the collaboration among famous brands around the globe. A swarm of people marched into the rented convention hall, filling the entire space within minutes.
You and your co-workers were busy getting everything organised and ensuring everything was in place. Since you were in the editorial department, you have been going about talking to all of the big figureheads from each respective brand, mostly just breaking the ice as well as interviewing them so that you have your necessary notes to draft out the proposal for the upcoming magazine.
Time passed quickly and it was time for the show to begin. As you sat down on one of the chairs, you made your way towards the far end corners of the hall, getting ready your notepad and trusty blue ballpoint pen.
As the light began to dim, Juyeon eventually made his way up on stage with a microphone, giving the guests a warm welcome and a little opening speech before the models began their runway walk. Seeing the man himself again was a bittersweet moment for you. As much as you wanted nothing more associated with him, your eyes just couldn’t seem to turn away from him.
It did not help that he was dressed up in a black tuxedo, with his hair styled up with his usual one strand on his forehead. He looked strikingly handsome, and you wouldn’t be surprised if he managed to woo almost everyone in the audience tonight. The way he presented himself was truly magnificent, and you could see why he was able to rise to the ranks of being a CEO at such a young age.
Tears began welling up in your eyes again, but you tried your very best to hold them back and mentally cursed at yourself, thinking that this was all professional work now and that there was no room for any personal matters for the night.
Once he made his desired speech, he eventually came down from the stage and sat at one of the front row seats, and that was where you could clearly see that the very same girl from the aquarium sat right next to him, along with his uncle and personal assistant. It shouldn’t bother you since they are practically family to him. It was none of your business, so why couldn’t you take your eyes off them?
Or rather, with him and the young lady who was clearly having fun whispering into each other’s ears.
It has nothing to do with me.
You constantly reminded yourself that whenever you tried to spare a glance at them, all while you were taking down notes from the show. It was definitely a challenge trying to stay focused, and there were a couple of times when you needed to close your eyes for a bit and take a few deep breaths to proceed with your work.
The show finished smoothly, and the audience responded with a standing ovation. You definitely felt a sense of accomplishment from that, too, given that all of your hard work over the past months had finally paid off.
The event wouldn’t have been complete without an after-party, so here you were in the hall next door—with all of the guests, models, and even staff alike having loads of fun chatting about with a glass of champagne in hand. Eventually, the DJ that was hired began to blast out a wide selection of music, indicating that whoever felt comfortable hitting up the dance floor was able to do so.
You smiled as you saw a couple of your close co-workers pull up some moves on the dance floor; it reminded you of loads of your time back in the UK—going to the local pubs and just having the time of your life drinking and partying with your friends.
Just as you were lost in thought, you suddenly felt a little tap on your shoulder, and you turned around to see that Juyeon’s assistant insisted that someone wanted to see you in person.
You didn’t think much of it since you already had a little bit of alcohol in your system, so when you finally realised who was the one who wanted to see you, panic began to rush through your veins, and you tried your best to make sense of the situation.
“Mr Lee? Is something the matter?”
You did not need to see the older male again, especially when he gave you a not-so-good first impression back at the aquarium. However, you had no reason to devise an excuse to leave; he was much superior to you anyway.
“Why, good evening, Miss L/N. I hope you are enjoying the party so far, and congratulations on the job well done. I must say Juyeon always excels in his work, no matter what obstacles he encounters along the way.”
The only thing you could do was flash a little smile back at him, as much as it made you uncomfortable. In the back of your mind, you have dozens of questions running through your mind, thinking about in what manner his uncle has any business with you.
Eventually, he began speaking as if he was chanting through a book, giving you a whole load of information that was a little bit too much to take in at the moment.
“It seems that Seoul life has been too tedious for you, don’t you think? Have you ever wondered about transferring back to London? Perhaps it would be a much better place for you to reside in.”
“Umm, with all due respect, sir, how did you know about my background—”
“Oh, I have always kept an eye on you; you were Juyeon’s childhood friend, after all.”
Keyword. “Were”
“With that being said, I have read a couple of your articles before from the London Mail, and I must say, they are actually quite extraordinary.”
“W-Why, t-thank you, Mr Lee. I really do appreciate them—”
“Speaking of transferring, the CEO for Fendi has actually taken quite a liking to you and your work. Even throughout the whole fashion show back there, he has been talking on and on about you, saying how you would prove to be a fruitful addition to his company.”
Just like that, Mr Lee began to step forward to hand you a little sticky note, which clearly had a number written on it.
“If you ever change your mind, give me a call. Besides, I’m sure you already know the answer deep within your heart. I will be waiting,” Mr Lee responded with a smug before entering back into the hall.
You stared back down at the note and eventually began thinking about what his uncle said prior. Suddenly, you started feeling conflicted, thinking this was the right place to belong. But it could also be his way of trying to brainwash you; you’re pretty sure you felt like a menace in his eyes.
You decided you needed some fresh air to clear your thoughts for a bit, so you headed out towards the balcony right up the stairs. You figured that an open-air rooftop seemed perfect for some alone time.
If only you were the only one who was planning to use the same exact spot that is.
Right when you reached the door that was ajar on the rooftop, you immediately recognised the two people standing before you, the female leaning in to give your childhood friend a peck on the lips.
You stand there motionless, and immediately, your blood starts to boil, something you haven’t felt in a while. The glass of champagne then drops towards the ground, and the shattered noises make the two turn their attention towards you.
It all felt like a sudden pause like time had stopped for a few moments. The both of you were staring deep into each other’s eyes, not knowing what to do or how to respond. But then, Juyeon eventually spoke to break the silence.
Before you could ever hear what he had to say, you were already dashing down the stairs, not caring that you had missed a couple of steps and that there were a few instances where you felt like you were about to trip and fall straight down back where you came from.
Not even wanting to let your co-workers know about anything, you quickly dashed through the front gates, running through the now gloomy skies that were bound to have a heavy downpour within a few minutes.
You should’ve remembered that Juyeon was the basketball team leader back in high school for a reason; no matter how fast you ran through the streets, he eventually caught you and yanked you back towards him, causing you to press up against his chest.
“Let me go! Let me go—”
“Y/N! Please! Let us just talk things out.”
You used up all of your strength and pushed him away as hard as you could before you began raising your voice back at him. “Talk? Don’t be ridiculous. You have done more than enough, and I have seen enough.”
“Y/N, no. You don’t understand—”
“What else do I have to understand!?!? You have done more than enough to shatter me over and over again, Juyeon! And to think I was dumb enough actually to think we could work things out again!” You screamed.
“Y/N…please…just calm down and listen to what I have to say…” Juyeon was now practically begging you, begging you just to stop.
“You clearly don’t understand the pain that I’ve gone through, Juyeon. You weren’t there to witness or experience it anyway! Why did we even become friends in the first place, huh!?!?”
God, cat’s out of the bag.
That last sentence was definitely not meant to be said at all; it was one of your deepest, darkest thoughts that you have sworn that nobody should ever find out about, especially when it is directed towards the person who stood before you.
“I hate you, Juyeon…I really do…for all of the pain that you have caused me…” you were now sobbing like a child, which pained Juyeon so much seeing how you were now.
With that, a loud thunder resonated throughout the city, and a heavy downpour began pouring down from the skies. The both of you were now soaked, and you mustered up the courage to say your final words to him as the tears began mixing with the rain.
“Please…I beg of you…just stop looking for me…or even talk to me at all…just leave me alone…that’s the last thing I will ask of you…”
“I don’t want anything to do with you no more.”
You slowly began backing away, and when you reached a good amount of distance, you turned your heel and began running away into the shadows, not sparing a final glance at your childhood friend who stood at the same spot under the pouring rain.
This is my final goodbye, Juyeon.
Tumblr media
If you thought the whole week of you being a walking zombie in the office was terrible enough, clearly, nobody was prepared for the current state that you were in. You locked yourself up in your room and refused to see anybody, even your mother and sister.
You would constantly lay in bed, tossing and turning, even though it was hard to fall asleep. Since you avoided contact with your family members, there was nothing much they could do but place a tray filled with your meals and dishes in front of your door, waiting for you to eventually open up during times when you actually felt hungry and took them into your room to savour them all on your own.
You didn’t need anyone or anything now; you craved alone time and peace.
As you curl up in bed, sometimes even at the corners of your room, your eyes would often dart towards the sticky note handed to you by his uncle. So many times you have thought about it: what if life would’ve been better abroad and coming back to Seoul was truly a grave mistake that you have made? What if this whole decision was actually an awakening moment for you to realise that this is not where you should belong?
Days went by and eventually, it became a week. There were only a few days left before you returned to the office for work. The longer you kept staring at the note, the more motivated you were to take the risk and start again.
Every time you were reminded of what happened that very fateful night, you rationalised that maybe what Mr Lee said was true after all. Perhaps Seoul is really not your place to belong.
As the clock ticked, your desire to leave everything behind felt stronger.
You waited until the clock finally struck noon for you to finally stand up with your phone in hand, punching each number into the dial pad and bringing it to your ear.
Once the ringing eventually got through and you were met with a voice on the other end of the line, you took a deep breath before muttering the words you have been reluctant about all this while.
“I’ll take up the offer.”
Tumblr media
“For the very last time sissy, I promise I will be fine,” you spoke through your headphones as you were on a video call with your sister, who was back home at your apartment.
“You have never done something so impulsive before, and given that you made this whole decision during your darkest hours? I highly doubt that you’re okay, Miss Y/N.”
“Well, I can assure you that the darkest hours are gone, and I’m now free and much happier. I can work with Fendi!”
Your sister sighed through the phone. “Working with big brands is one thing; what about your physical and mental well-being?”
“Rome doesn’t sound too bad to me, and besides, living in the UK for a couple of years has definitely given me the experience I’ve needed to survive back in the EU again.”
“Fine. Just…be careful, okay? Give mom and I a call once you’ve touched down.”
You gave a little flying kiss through the phone. “Don’t worry, I will.”
After waving goodbye on both sides, you clicked the red end call button and leaned back onto the chair you had been sitting on for the past hour. It was definitely a shocker to you that Fendi was willing to accept you immediately without having to go through any sort of significant interviews and that they were kind enough to even provide accommodations for you. At the same time, you work for them under a contract of two years. Frankly, it was a good deal and a steal.
You slowly stare into the digital clock on the big screen, which eventually becomes an announcement.
“All passengers bound for Rome, Italy, please head to gate 4B and be ready for boarding!”
Instantly, almost all of the people around you began standing and lining up as if they needed to be the first to get on board. You have always disliked and never understood why the rush and pushing against one another trying to fight for the first slot, so you often just sat back and relaxed until only a couple of folks left to board the plane.
Time went by quickly, and thirty minutes have passed since then. Now, only a handful of passengers are left to board. That was when it was your cue to get up and sling your backpack onto your back.
As you slowly walked towards the counter to let the flight attendants scan your passport and let you through the gates, you felt a sudden tap on your shoulders, causing you to turn behind to see who it was.
You didn’t have much time to respond until you were pulled in for a tight embrace; that familiar cologne was enough to make the tears well up in your eyes again.
“J-Juyeon…” your voice muffled.
“Stop. Let me just…let me do the talking this time. Please.”
You would have definitely fought back and started pushing him away once more, but it seems that you were either too taken aback or lost all of the energy throughout the past week to do so. Instead, you just stood there motionless in his arms.
“Y/N, I know it would be horrible for me to ask for forgiveness because I definitely do not deserve any of that after what I have put you through. Or even for another chance because you clearly gave me one, and it was my fault for not appreciating nor cherishing the moment when it happened,” he began stroking your head, his fingers running through your long, silky, soft hair.
“But one thing is for sure: I will not let you go this time. This time, I am going to hold you so tight that there’s no room for you to escape; I’ll make sure that you will forever be safe and sound in my arms, and I will be the one who is going to bring you joy instead of pain and tears.”
He then bends down to give you a little kiss on your forehead. “You mean a lot to me, Y/N. And I’d like to think you are more than just a friend; you’re my other half. Without you, I wouldn’t be able to move on, knowing that I will lose you again, and this time, forever, if I don’t stop you now.”
“So please, Y/N. I’m begging you. Please don’t go.”
With his final words, you eventually find your arms slowly snaking up his back and returning the hug to him. You weren’t too sure why you did that, especially after the tremendous pain you have gone through the past week in particular. At the end of the day, the phrase where the heart wants what it wants will forever remain faithful to you, whether you like it or not.
You sobbed. “You’re not going to make me stay that easily.”
“Oh yeah? You think I’m not capable of doing that?”
“Prove it then.”
Instantly, one of his hands travelled back up to your chin and lifted them, causing you to look directly towards his as he slowly bent down to interlock his lips with yours. The kiss was rather heated, as if the both of you had been waiting for this to come so badly. You couldn’t care less if you both were actually making out at the airport.
Juyeon cupped your face with both hands as he tilted his head for you to gain more entrance into his. His lips felt soft yet demanding as if you were devouring a forbidden fruit. In return, you run your fingers through his silky black hair.
After a few minutes, you both broke apart for some fresh air, trying your best to catch your breath simultaneously.
“Is that supposed to make me stay put in Seoul, Juyeon?” You teased.
With that, he merely replied with a little smile followed by a smirk. “That, Miss Y/N, was actually a pact you made to me. Treat it as a contract, if you will, that you are bound to stay by my side no matter what.”
“Ugh, that’s so foul of you!”
“You should know that I have my ways; I’m not the CEO of GQ Korea for nothing.”
The both of you eventually burst out into laughter while Juyeon finds both hands on your waist while you wrap your arms around his shoulders.
“Listen, Y/N. I want to apologise on behalf of my uncle and Saeran.”
“Oh, yeah. No big deal. By the way, is Saeran—”
“It’s not what you think it is.”
“It’s not?”
He smiled. “She’s my little cousin, and she often showers me with tons of hugs and kisses, even though I’ve told her to stop a million times.”
“Well, you’re lucky to have a cousin who loves you that much,” you replied.
“Yeah, but she’s going to have to learn that she can’t do that anymore because someone else is going to replace her job for that.”
As much as you knew who he referred to, you still wanted to drag this further. “And who exactly is that?”
“Hmm…maybe the contract before wasn’t clear enough. Should I make another one?”
You slapped his chest immediately. “Don’t you dare, we’re in public.”
Again, another burst of laughter was genuinely beginning to make you feel a lot better, even to the point of slowly healing all the scars you have had before.
With that, you needed to make yourself clear to the man himself.
“Juyeon, can I just be honest with you?”
“Of course, sweetheart.”
“I appreciate you doing all of this for me, but I just want to give you a heads-up that it’ll take a while for me to heal from everything completely and that I’m sorry if I don’t give you the exact treatment that you expect from me, and I—”
You were then silenced with another kiss on the lips; this time, Juyeon took the time to shower you with as many kisses as possible, making sure that each was worthwhile before breaking the kiss again.
“Y/N, I don’t care about all of that. You can take as long as you need, but just know that I will be here for each step you take, and I’ll give you support whenever you need it. I promise. I will not leave you behind ever again.”
As you both plastered a soft smile, you leaned in to rest your forehead against each other, taking in everything that had happened minutes prior.
“Here’s to a new beginning with you.”

Jay was getting tired of Y/N’s sudden and unexplained cold shoulder. He wanted an explanation for why she seemed to be ignoring him, only speaking to him when she needed to.
Unable to find her in the bullpen, he heads into the locker room finding her sitting on one of the benches, stuffing her clothes she had to get changed out of after getting blood all over them trying to prevent an innocent by stander in a shootout from bleeding out into her bag.
“What’s going on with you?” Jay questions, a frown on his face, confusion and concern in his pretty blue eyes.
“Nothing,” she says rolling her eyes as she stands up and moves back to her locker.
“Have you forgotten how well I know you,” his voice comes out a little more aggressive than he intended, but she’s been beyond frustrating since this morning.
“What about your ex? Or have you forgotten how well you know her,” she slams her locker shut and hooks her gun and badge on to her jeans.
This morning Jay’s recent ex-girlfriend had come by District 21 as a witness in their latest case. Y/N, along with Jay, took her statement. Jay being oblivious to his ex's lingering stares, subtle flirty remarks and the hopeful look in her eyes, only added to Y/N's already sour mood from her car breaking down on the way to the station.
“Is this what this whole cold shoulder thing is about?” he asks surprised by her remark but also relieved that she said more than five words to him that didn't involve their case. "My ex-girlfriend trying to be flirty with me?"
Maybe he wasn't oblivious to it like she thought. Y/N doesn't say anything as she zips up her bag and slings it over her shoulder. She goes to walk past him when he stops her, gently grasping her arm and turning her back around to face him.
"No one in this world, past, present or future, matters to me more than you do," he says softly as he raises a hand to her face, stroking her cheek with his thumb making her look at him. "And I have never loved anyone as much as I love you. None of them matter anymore, especially her. You're it for me, baby."
The look in Y/N's eyes softens as she listens to him, her arms move around his waist as she looks at him, seeing the love he holds for her. In his ex's defense, she didn't know about their relationship, and they couldn't exactly tell her while they were taking her witness statement. And he never flirted back, not giving her false hope that there was something still there between them. He had been nothing but professional and she had let her jealousy and insecurities raise their ugly heads, something that never happened often. Y/N knows she overreacted, and she deserves his frustration and to feel the guilt she's currently feeling.
"I'm sorry for being horrible today. I don't know why I let her get under my skin. Women flirt with you a lot and it usually never bothers me," she apologizes placing a quick peck to his lips. "And I love you more than I've ever loved anyone else too."
"Buy me dinner and I'll forgive you," he smiles moving his arms around her waist and pulls her closer.
"How about I cook dinner and you can have me as dessert?" she suggests.
"I may be tempted," he replies, looking like he's thinking about it.
She smiles kissing him, "Take me home, Halstead."
"You got it," he says letting her go and takes his hand in hers. "Also, women don't flirt with me a lot," he continues as they walk out of the locker room.
"Have you looked in a mirror," she scoffs. "You're a beautiful man."

❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦❧❦
Fink definitely had to be the one to handle nightmares with Brightbill. Telling the duckling stories, and even having to make up a song or two to calm the little thing down. And due to Roz always having to shut off during the night to conserve power, she wouldn’t be much help…. Fink definitely had to let Brightbill sleep on his bed a couple times.
He wasn’t fond of the arrangement of him having to help parent Brightbill. Originally it was simply to get things from Roz due to her naïveness. But he did eventually warm up to the idea, since it’s obvious he didn’t get to experience actual family or parental love. He definitely subconsciously tried to parent Brightbill in ways he wish he had growing up.
Protective. You saw how he tried to attack the other geese when they were bullying Brightbill. He was ready to feast.
He’s the type to act like it’s a huge deal or a big favor when he does something for someone. He wants compliments and praise. I can definitely see him getting flustered the first time Roz complimented him genuinely for whatever reason. He was not prepared for the “you are very smart” comment. Bro malfunctioned.
Fink: what is this?
Baby Brightbill wanting a hug: affection.
Fink: disgusting!….. do it again.
Cried when Roz had to leave. He was sad to see his first real friend leave so suddenly (wasn’t really sudden, but he felt like it was) I can definitely see him not wanting to leave the home she built for Brightbill, herself and of course Fink. He didn’t allow anyone to mess with the pictures.
I don’t know why… but this dude definitely got a fear of woodpeckers. I don’t know why I see that, but I do for some reason. Maybe he was attacked as a pup?… mini fic idea?
Back to the platonic relationships 🤣
Always gets excited whenever Brightbill comes back after winter. Is so happy to see his son. The other geese got used to him bolting to Brightbill.
Has in fact threatened to eat a few other animals that insulted Brightbill when he was still a duckling. He didn’t wanna admit it (he can now but at the time, heck no) but he had gotten attached to the duckling and got over protective. He mellowed out when Brightbill got older though. The over protectiveness just passed to Roz.
Has definitely had to babysit for Pink tail a couple times. He likes the kids now but he did almost eat stinky once or twice.
Once had to attack another fox when it tried to attack Brightbill. Got a scar from it too. Roz managed to fix him up, but it took a bit for Fink and Roz to get a crying Brightbill to calm down.
Always has a pinecone on hand (on paw?) to throw at the squirrels. Only he is allowed to laugh at Brightbill face planting when he fails a lift off.
Got excited when Roz returned. Was nervous she wouldn’t remember him, but he’d rather have to reintroduce himself than not be her friend again.
I feel like Fink didn’t have siblings, and if he did they passed away. So I feel like when Brightbill was little and wanted to play, he’d always agree (although he’d act like it’s a huge hassle. In reality he was happy to finally experience playing.)
It’s obvious that Fink didn’t have a relationship (at least not a good one) with his mother. So when Roz started to doubt herself, I can definitely see him telling her -in his own way- that she is a way better mother than she thinks. Pink tail also had to join in on it since Fink has a pretty rude way of giving pep talks.
Pink tail and him definitely gossip about the kids.
Pink tail: so you’re telling me Brightbill tried to eat a caterpillar?
Fink: not tried, did. He had an upset stomach for days! The kid got so clingy I could even be in my den away from him!
Pink tail: yeah my last litter did that… Jeremy didn’t even last spring.
Fink knows about all of the ways Pink tail other kids from past litters died. Was very concerned on how unbothered she was. (Lowkey gets it though)
Final headcannons! Rapid fire!
Definitely has given Brightbill something that tasted gross (like how parents give their baby lemon to see their reaction)
He’s probably taken one of Brightbill’s baby photos to put in his den for the winter.
Attacked the fish that attacked Brightbill. Bro wanted revenge.
Hates lemon grass. He just doesn’t like it.
He hates squirrels and they hate him.
Definitely has pulled the “where is he?” Thing when Brightbill was right next to him (pretended Brightbill was invisible to mess with him) yeah Brightbill cried…. He let him sleep in his bed with him that night. He felt a little bad.

CS Secret Santa 2024 Gift Fic: "Christmas Getaway With You" for @stevebcks
I am sorry that it is so late on Christmas night for your present @stevebcks! But yes, I have been your Santa this year. I have really enjoyed chatting with you and getting to know someone I hadn't ever met or gotten to talk with yet in this fandom. I hope you will still enjoy this, even though it is later than I had hoped. I also hope that this Christmas has been a great one for you and that you've truly enjoyed the warmth and joy of the holiday.
You gave me so many great ideas in your answers to my asks, and I tried to work in several of them - giving Emma and Killian more time together in their happily married everyday life, giving a glimpse of them raising their daughter, getting to see them celebrate the holiday, and to visit New York again together. I even attempted to sneak Merlin into the story (at least a playful nod to him!)
Without further hesitating, here's your story!!

“Christmas Getaway With You”
By: @snowbellewells
“Emma, for the last time, Love, you’ve checked everything twice! We’re all ready to set sail.” Killian’s gentle tone of affectionate exasperation finally served to snap Emma from ducking back into the kitchen to be absolutely certain that the door into the mudroom and their backyard beyond was secure and that the coffeemaker was indeed unplugged from the wall for what was at least the third time. Shaking her head at her own anxious dithering, she leaned into his side when he wrapped his arm around her, bringing her to a standstill in the entryway. Killian’s steadying presence soothed her frazzled nerves, just as he always did - no matter what the problem, and she thrilled at the sensation of the smooth curve of his hook rubbing back and forth lightly over her hip, the simple gesture somehow lulling in its familiarity.
“You’re right, Babe,” Emma breathed out as she looked up at him with a grateful smile. “I’m acting crazy and I’m not even sure why.”
“Nonsense, I wouldn’t necessarily call you crazy. Any pirate worth his - or her - “ here he waggled an eyebrow and gave his wife a knowing wink, “salt, knows well enough to properly safeguard the treasure.”
Emma snickered at that and pulled away, but this time she finally moved toward the door, as had been her original intention. Reaching to the coat rack whether her favorite leather jacket and beanie hung waiting, Emma grinned at her own worried expense before speaking to him over her shoulder, “Still, enough’s enough. We’re only going to be gone a few short days. Henry comes in on Friday, plus he’ll have Hope here then, and probably Violet too once she gets back to town, and we’ll be back on Monday.”
Killian’s eyebrows both rose up to disappear under the dark fringe of hair hanging over his forehead as he feigned shocked surprise. “You’re allowing the lad and his lady love to cohabitate under your roof when we aren’t here to chaperone?”
Her husband’s playful pretense of being scandalized had Emma putting her hands on her hips in equally mock consternation. “Oh, don’t pretend your delicate sensibilities are overcome. If you think I don’t know you gave him some tips on successful wooing of said lady love along the way, you’d better think again, buddy.”
Killian chuckled in return at that, dipping his head in a slight bob of agreement to show that he knew she had him there. Taking his own jacket from the peg next to his Swan’s, Killian swung his own outerwear over his shoulders and then waited at the door for Emma as she patted her pockets and made certain she had her keys, phone, badge, and cards before following her out onto the porch and locking the door behind them.
“There,” Emma said, pleased to feel the weight of everyday concerns falling from her shoulders with the closed door. Taking Killian’s offered hand, she added, “Let the holiday adventure begin.”
~~~~**
The next afternoon found them snuggled in a corner booth at the charming Serendipity’s in the Upper East Side of New York City itself. Not only was the frozen hot chocolate heaped with whipped cream and toppings decadent enough to induce guilt all on its own, but sitting there cozily tucked into Killian’s side had Emma almost feeling selfish for escaping from her family and friends in Storybrooke, not to mention her little girl to steal a few days - and nights - alone with her pirate husband. Nevermind that Hope had her Grandpa David completely wrapped around her tiny fingers and would be dragging him around with the dogs, goats and sheep on the farm until dark and then she and Grandma Snow would probably create the most intricate and icing-frosting gingerbread castle known to man; suffice it to say Hope was in little girl heaven being spoiled by her grandparents at present, and would get to spend a whole day with her adored big brother right before Emma and Killian returned; she was hardly pining away feeling left out. Maybe she should feel ashamed of herself for counting it almost a luxury to canoodle with her handsome husband in public without interruptions from well-meaning neighbors (or parents), Ruby winking at her knowingly from behind the counter at Granny’s, or one of the dwarves bursting into the middle of the date to proclaim some new emergency, but she felt incredibly spoiled and pleased at pulling it off all the same.
A pleasant rumbling chuckle from Killian’s chest vibrated through her as he licked the last of his own dessert from the spoon, making Emma’s heart rate triple and her cheeks heat at the image of his lips enveloping the utensil and thinking of how deliciously they felt sampling her bare skin as well when they were behind closed door. “You seemed pensive, Darling,” he murmured low in her ear, voice sounding mild and innocent, though Emma could clearly see otherwise when she shot a sideways glance at his twinkling eyes and mischievous expression.
“As if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing,” she countered with a huff, pushing away slightly to sit upright, sip the last dregs of her melty treat, and rise to stand before him determinedly. “Enough stalling, Captain,” she added with tart certainty. “You aren’t going to get me addled enough to forget what you promised. I may drag you back to our room, but…”
As she paused for a shaky breath, Killian ran his tongue salaciously over his lower lip, eyeing her intently and taking her internal temperature up another few notches. Still, Emma arched her brow right back at him in return and leaned in to meet his teasing look with one of her own. “But not before you take me ice skating, as planned,” she finished.
Shaking his head at her antics, Killian rose to his feet as well, leaving a generous tip for their server - with dollar bills, not doubloons, as Emma had reiterated he must do to blend in properly in the Land Without Magic - and offered her his arm as gallantly as ever while they made their way back out into the frosty night. Once they were back on the sidewalk, shoulders hunched against the chill air as they turned their steps toward Central Park, Killian spoke up again with resigned knowing, “Though I suspect you largely wish to see me at disadvantage and looking foolish, you wish is - as always - my command, Emma.”
The wide, dazzling grin she gave him in return sent any hesitance Killian had felt at the strange activity fleeing to the furthest back corner of his mind. His lovely wife beaming so open and joyously was still entirely too rare in his opinion, and it made any upcoming embarrassment well worth it. Emma, for her part, could see that decision in his adoring gaze, and blinked back the tears that beaded her eyelashes, loving him all the more for his dedication to her happiness.
~~~**
Upon reaching the crowded space sent aside as an ice-skating rink within the acreage of Central Park, not only did Emma gain a bit of an eager spring to her step, her shining golden hair swinging mesmerizingly over her shoulders, but Killian felt himself charmed too, in spite of his reluctance. The borders around the frozen surface were looped and festooned by a wealth of twinkle lights glowing cheerily, and at some point during their stop for dessert at Serendipity’s, snow had begun to fall lightly, giving the entire scene just the sort of pretty white dusting that added the perfect festive look to the atmosphere. People were scattered all around the busy clearing - as they were all throughout this major city, Killian was coming to understand, almost packed atop each other really. There were couples skating hand-in-hand and parents helping their children put on skates interspersed with teenagers weaving in and out of the slower skaters on the ice and laughing over their cocoa in clumps at the picnics tables; humanity of all ages and races converging here in holiday cheer. It truly was something to witness.
Emma led the way to the rental stall with confidence, causing Killian to wonder with blatant curiosity if she and Henry had come here often in that lost year when they were separated and her lad was still just a youngster yet. That time had dragged and tormented her unendingly, thinking Emma was lost to him forever, just when she had begun to see him for the man he wished to be, the man she had restored in him. All the same, for his Swan, it must have been such a sweet, simple respite in many ways. She didn’t remember the family, or the pirate, she had lost. Henry was hers alone, and had always been so. Returning to the constant battles and demands, to sharing her son with the woman who would have gladly seen her dead - or in a cursed sleep forever - could not have been the easy choice. Killian knew that - and yet, it struck him anew in moments he least expected it.
Turning to see the slightly pained expression on his face, Emma’s brow puckered in confusion. “What’s wrong, Babe?” she asked worriedly, tugging the hand she held to get his attention fully. “You know I’m mostly kidding you, right? If we skate a couple rounds and you hate it, we don’t have to keep going.”
Killian shook his head with a light scoff at that, waving off her concern before bending to press a kiss to her forehead in reassurance. “Don’t you worry, Love,” he soothed. “I was only lost in thought for a moment.”
“Are you sure?” she asked, leaning in to rest a hand over his heart as she often did, ever since his time in the Underworld, it having become a bit of a habit to assure herself his heart was beating with life once again.
“Aye,” he nodded decisively, without a moment’s pause, not about to keep her guessing or make her feel he wouldn’t wish to join her in whatever she truly wished to do.
By this time, they had reached the front of the line and turned from conversation with each other to face the attendant renting skates to all the bravely bundled up visitors of the outdoor rink. To Emma’s surprise, the young man smiling back at them had an oddly familiar glimmer in his deep chocolate-brown eyes and soft affection to his smile. It was completely at odds with her certainty that she’d never met him before, nor could she begin to guess his name, but the way he greeted them with such friendliness and - she could have sworn - a playful wink, made it seem as if he somehow knew them. He was a handsome and eye-catching guy, his close-cropped black hair, mocha latte skin, and lean height made him hard not to notice, all the more reason Emma suspiciously felt she ought to know him, though her mind offered no further clues. “How can I help you fine folks?” he spoke then, bright and completely innocuous right words. “A couple pair of skates?”
“Right you are,” Killian answered, giving Emma a curious look to show he found this effusive welcome strange as well, but carrying on normally. “Two pair for an hour’s rental, if you please.”
With a nod, the attendant turned to reach behind him to the shelves and retrieve the skates in their sizes which Killian had requested. Emma offered him the rental fee money, as Killian had taken both pairs of skates in his good hand and didn’t often choose to extend his false wooden hand to strangers, even if he did concede to wear it when they ventured outside Storybrooke. However, when her gloved hand touched his to give him the money, a shivering flash ran through her, nearly knocking Emma back on her heels.
Glancing up at the man sharply, Emma drew in a quick gasp of surprise, even as she felt Killian’s touch at the small of her back in silent support. All she got in return was a subtle bow of the head, acknowledging what she had felt, and the lowly murmured, “It’s lovely to see you happy for the holidays at long last, Savior.”
“What - ? Wait, who are you?” she sputtered, floundering for a response. “How did you - ?”
“Emma, Love, maybe now is not the time,” Killian whispered at her ear, nodding subtly toward the line of people behind them, beginning to shuffle and grow impatient when they didn’t move on with their skates and make way for the next customers.
“To answer your question, I’m Melvin Emrys, skate shop employee extraordinaire,” the enigmatic young man broke in with a smile. “Though I doubt that helps you, as I am sure even now you are thinking that name does not quite fit.” He winked again. “Both of you enjoy your time on the ice. It truly can be magical this time of year. But I’m afraid that now I must see to the rest of my customers.”
Killian ushered Emma over to a bench nearby, she still looking back over her shoulder uneasily, trying to understand what had just happened. Her pirate was hovering a bit more protectively than usual, but nothing overtly threatening had actually happened, and so they soon attempted to shrug off the odd encounter, see to their skates, and were soon gingerly stepping out onto the ice.
To her utter delight, Emma found that the gliding movement came back to her easily, her feet moving almost as if on auto pilot, her muscle memory seeming to sustain her, even if it had been years since she’d last been on skates. Swirling around she faced Killian, who was still on solid ground, looking dubiously at the frozen surface and then her as if again trying to gauge if she only wanted to see him land on his arse.
Holding out her hand, Emma cocked her head to the side and gave him a playful pout before wheedling, “Come on now, Pirate, don’t tell me the scourge of the high seas is afraid of a little frozen water. Don’t you trust me?”
Resolve seemed to crystallize in Killian’s bright blue eyes, the determined bob of his chin seeming to solidify his decision. “That’s hardly fair, Sweetheart. You know I trust you as I would no one else.”  He took first one, then another cautious step forward, until he was, wavering only slightly, standing fully on the icy surface. “I simply wonder if you might also wish to see me looking as ridiculously uncoordinated as you sometimes do.”
“Hey!” Emma blurted out, almost jerking her hand back to cross her arms over her chest in feigned affront.
He had hold of her already, and rather than slipping and losing his balance, he pulled her into his unexpectedly solid embrace, grinning down at her with a face so full of mischief that she knew immediately she’d been had.
“You already know how to ice skate just fine, don’t you?” she asked, the answer having already dawned on her without much of a doubt.
Waggling both eyebrows at her in a way that made her want to both giggle and smack him simultaneously, Killian nodded in confirmation of her words, not willing to string her along any further.
“Why didn’t you say so?” she asked curiously.
“All that time on the seas, traveling to so many different lands and times, I would have had to have picked it up somewhere. There are parts of the sea that turn so cold, even that much water can freeze solid,” he offered simply. “But you seemed to eager to show me something from your world, to teach me something that you loved to do, that I hated to spoil it for you. And I wasn’t completely sure that after so long in Neverland, I would still remember how…”
“Hmm…” Emma grumbled a bit, but it was half-hearted, seeing that his heart had been in the right place, and also eager to skate with him, to feel the breeze in her hair and the snowflakes on her face and enjoy the feeling of almost flying with him at her side.
“Now, now, Darling,” Killian crooned, taking her hand and pushing off gracefully, both of them setting off in a smooth glide that curved gently when they reached the end of the rink. “Don’t pout, just because you won’t be getting to see this arse you love bumped and bruised and frozen from landing on the ice.”
“Yeah, yeah, we’ll see about how much I love it once you probably show me up at this,” she said, but her cheeks were heating pleasantly just watching how smoothly he moved beside her. He was as graceful in this as he was everything else he tried.
~~~**
By the time their few days in the city drew to a close, it was Christmas Eve. As they packed up the Bug for the trek back to Storybrooke, Emma couldn’t help reflecting on what a difference a few days away could make. She and Killian hadn’t had this much time to themselves since they were married, quite possibly even since their inadvertent trip to the Enchanted Forest of the past. She couldn’t claim to read her pirate’s mind, but they did understand each other, just as they always had. It was clear enough that he felt as renewed as she did, and anxious to get home again to their loved ones, especially their little girl.
She knew Killian was also thrilled to have found gifts fit for his pirate princess at FAO Schwarz and couldn’t wait to give them to Hope the next day. He’d found a huge, ostentatious, feathered pirate hat worthy of his showy old nemesis Blackbeard, but he knew his daughter would love it. Along with that, he’d purchased a shining miniature toy cutlass which looked as much like his as he could have possibly imagined without being an actual weapon. Emma found herself grinning even more at the thought of the large, squishy-soft stuffed octopus she’d found herself to add to the haul. After being spoiled by her grandparents and then her older brother the last several days, Hope would be on a sugar high and bouncing off the walls with excitement already. Seeing all her presents from the big city would have her beside herself.
And Emma wouldn’t want it any other way. There was something incredibly healing about seeing her own child get to have the sort of Christ mas she herself had always dreamed of - surrounded by belongings and love - and getting to be a part of it herself at long last.
So when they drove past the Storybrooke sign some hours later, snowflakes still sparkling in the chill air and Killian’s solid warmth at her side, nearing the rest of their family and a Christmas celebration sure to be of royal proportions at her mother and father’s farmhouse that night, Emma smiled at her True Love and let herself savor that extra little thrill of Christmas magic.
I’m not dead!
I’ve kinda been missing for a few months - I have a big explanation on temporary chapters on ESS and CS if you want to read that. My fics are also now only available to read by people who have AO3 accounts due to the recent AI scrape.
Explanation, slight vent
Anyway. I’ve had a horrendous year so far - I have family in and out of hospital, my beloved Dave unfortunately passed away in April after becoming sick nearly a month prior, I’m graduating university suddenly as my top-up year was cancelled due to lack of interest, I turned 20 on the 5th of May, I’ve had so much to do…
I’ve been putting off drawing and writing so much. I have some WIPs for Celestial Scales art wise, and I’m slowly chugging along with fic updates. I’m so terrified and hopeless about the future due to stuff happening lately and I’ve had too much on my mind for creative stuff.
Now that it’s the summer holidays for me I intend to get some stuff done since I have no more uni stuff to do. Celestial Scales is 1 year old next Sunday and was due to be finished by next month but alas, I’m still on chapter 8. I’m just generally exhausted with a lot right now but I hope to start working on stuff again soon.
ALSO. do you have any contestshipping fic recs ??
I absolutely do! Here's a list of completed fics :) Sorry that the list is long and wordy, but I cannot be concise about these two, nor the talented authors that write for them. So, without further ado... long post ahead. 🌹 (there's a spreadsheet screenshot at the bottom with the tags/summaries/word count/etc all laid out if this is too wordy! This post is also mostly just effusive rambling rather than summaries, so details are at the bottom in the sheet.)
Apt 212 on Ao3 by @the-scriptress (Ao3 user link) is my holy grail, my favorite fic of all time, my 'I know lines of this by heart' fic. Real-world AU, 91k of everything anyone could ever ask for. And they were apartment neighbors... I stayed up to read the entire thing in one sitting until 5 am about a year and a half ago and it's lived in my head rent-free ever since. I can also vouch for everything else she's written. 4 AM and Five Months are oneshot favorites of mine, but you really cannot go wrong with the entire Scriptress catalog.
And I CANNOT leave out Grow As We Go on Ao3 by the lovely @lostlegendaerie (Ao3 user link) for a wonderful glimpse into May and Drew's future. It ties in all of what makes them feel so magnetic in the show and adds such an evolved timeskip element to it in a way that feels so poignant and true to the characters. Saro is truly one of the fandom's trailblazers, an aptly usernamed legend whose characterizations have really shaped what the fandom is and who the characters are perceived as today, in my opinion. This fic is so soft and hilarious and it hits every single mark for me, time and time again. It's such a perfect blend of canon and personal flair in a way that I adore. It takes place in Paldea and I think of it, no joke, every single time I play SV.
i like the way you write my name by ImperfectWonderland on FFN is a nostalgic fave of mine! It's a really sweet coffeeshop AU, only 2.6k. Just a really nice pick-me-up, not unlike a cup of coffee. It's one of those sugary coffees with vanilla and cinnamon to me. Just sweet and warm and done way too soon!
More Confused Than Usual by theonewhohums (Ao3) straight-up feels like an episode to me. It's SUCH a fun time! Just a really cute and funny oneshot that totally fits with the vibe of the show. It reminds me of Who What When Where Wynaut a little bit. Suuuuper cute.
enter stage left by nicole_writes (Ao3) is a fandom classic. I haven't read it in a long time, but I just remember that it lives up to the kudos it's earned over the years. It's another fic that's really good if you want something that feels like it could be a continuation of canon rather than an AU (though I am a certified AU girlie).
Sand by nicolewrites37 on FFN is another absolute classic to me. I read this one when it first came out back in like 2015, I think? This one is multichaptered, in-universe, and it's one of those fics that I reread in one sitting late at night every so often. It really stuck with me. It uses lyrics from a Taylor Swift album before each chapter as a little thematic preview, and it's really not my favorite album of hers (1989) but I love it solely for the association it has with this fic. This one's so nostalgic to me in a way that's kind of hard to put into words; it just immerses me in this hazy, far-away feeling every single time. It's really worth reading, and no CS fic rec is complete without this one, in my opinion. It's another pillar-of-the-fandom fic to me. This writer has some other good fics, too, on Ao3 and FFN (both linked above).
Seven by I am Lu is yet another classic. I don't have as much to say about this one, other than that it's just a great time. 10/10. Super sweet, and that 24k goes by SO quickly.
(It's not complete, but I've got a subscription to Dear Friend by @dependabledreamboat (Ao3 link). It's based on the romcom You've Got Mail and the musical She Loves Me, and it's got an epistolary element to it that I love! I don't read many ongoing works because there's frankly just not that many that are [actually] Contestshipping focused in 2025, but this one's on my current list!)
I am SUPER open to people adding their own recs or self promo in the comments/reblogs/etc. The more the merrier!
Here's a spreadsheet view for an easy visual guide! NOTE- I did not include every tag for every fic for the sake of spreadsheet size/readability, just the ones that I personally think give you the best idea of what you're in for, but I can't think of any warnings that I left out (and full tags can be seen at the links provided above).
His Mistress | CS 55
carlos sainz x fem!reader
warn: mdni, possessive, harsh carlos, cheating
please do not read it uf youre not into dark fic!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carlos Sainz had it all. The last name, the wealth, the looks, the charm. His family owned one of the largest automotive empires in the world, and Carlos? He was their golden boy—successful in his own right, running his own business in the same industry. Everyone loved him. The media adored him, his parents were proud, and people saw him as this picture-perfect man—humble, respectful, and effortlessly charismatic.
And now, with the news of his engagement to Rebecca, an insanely gorgeous and world-renowned model, the public’s obsession with him only grew stronger. Power couple, they called them. A match made in heaven. Everyone was convinced Carlos had the perfect life.
Everyone, except one person.
Y/N.
Because unlike the rest of the world, Y/N knew who Carlos Sainz truly was.
And she knew, because she was the secret he kept locked away.
No one else knew about the luxurious house tucked away in the hills, far from the noise of the city. No one else had ever seen the woman who lived inside. A woman so stunning, so unreal in her beauty, that Carlos had never been able to let go. He met her years ago when she worked as his personal assistant, and from the moment their eyes met, he knew. There was something about her—something addictive, something he wanted to keep to himself.
So he did.
Y/N hadn’t stepped out of this house in years. Not because she couldn’t, but because Carlos wouldn’t let her. No one else got to see her. No one else got to have her.
She was his.
Carlos stormed into the house that night, his jaw tight, his patience worn thin.
He had just come from a family meeting—one where his parents and Rebecca’s team had gone over details for his wedding. His future. As if he even gave a shit about any of it. He hated the idea of marriage. Hated feeling trapped.
And now? He needed an escape.
Needed her.
The moment he saw Y/N standing there, he crossed the room in three long strides, grabbing her wrist and pulling her into him. She barely had time to breathe before his lips crashed onto hers, his hands gripping her like he needed to remind himself that she was real. That she was still here, still his.
And she let him. Because what else could she do?
The room was silent after. Only the sound of their heavy breaths remained, mingling in the space between them. Carlos was still lying beside her, his arm draped lazily over her bare waist when his phone buzzed on the nightstand.
Rebecca.
He exhaled sharply, grabbing the phone and unlocking it.
She had sent a series of messages, asking for his opinion on which wedding gown to wear.
Carlos barely glanced at the options before passing the phone to Y/N. “Reply to her,” he muttered.
Y/N hesitated, staring at the screen.
“Now.” His voice was sharp, leaving no room for argument.
Her fingers trembled slightly as she typed out a response, picking a gown at random.
Moments later, Rebecca called.
Carlos didn’t even hesitate before answering, his voice soft, sweet, nothing like the man who had just pinned Y/N down minutes ago.
“Hi, cariño,” Rebecca’s voice chirped through the speaker. “I’m so happy you picked this gown. It’s my favorite too.”
Carlos forced a small chuckle, eyes flicking to Y/N. She was staring at the ceiling, trying not to react.
After a few more seconds of Rebecca’s excited chatter, the call ended.
The second the screen went dark, the temperature in the room shifted. Carlos turned his head, his gaze dark, sharp, cutting straight through Y/N like a blade.
“What gown did you pick?” His voice was eerily calm.
Y/N swallowed, then slowly showed him the picture.
Silence.
Then, “Why did you pick that one?”
She hesitated, then spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “It’s… beautiful.”
Carlos let out a dry laugh. A humorless, mocking sound.
His fingers tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Did you pick it because you like it?” His voice was lower now, almost a whisper. “Did you think about yourself in it?”
Her breath hitched.
“Did you think,” Carlos continued, his grip tightening, “that one day you could wear a dress like this?”
Y/N’s lips parted, but no words came out.
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, though there was no warmth behind it. He leaned in, voice dripping in something cold, something final.
“Never.”
His thumb brushed over her bottom lip, almost gently. Almost.
“You don’t get to dream about that, cariño. You don’t get to think about a life where you wear a dress like that.” His voice was sharp now, biting. “You belong here. With me. And only me.”
A single tear slipped down Y/N’s cheek.
Carlos watched it fall, his expression unreadable.
And then he kissed her again—slow, deep, claiming.
As if sealing a promise.
As if reminding her—
That no matter what, no matter who the world thought he was, no matter how perfect he seemed—
She would always be his best-kept secret.
My thoughts ‘n stuff on the The Take It Easy Podcast (very scatterbrained):
-ever since the end of Chuckle Sandwich was announced I’ve been searching for a replacement and TIE is definitely the best fit so far (unsurprisingly)
-I’m not sure how I feel about the theme song, don’t get me wrong it’s good but maybe it’s a tad too long? I might just be too attached to the chuckle theme rn
-I don’t mind Schlatt absence in this, I love him but Ted and Tucker’s dynamic is such a delight and I’m really enjoying how how engaged they are.
-Tucker saying Ted would look good taking cock 😟
-As a Tucker fan I’m happy to see him get some of the spotlight
-he has a son btw
-I like how they refer to cs and Schlatt, it’s silly and made me chuckl- *gets shot and dies*
-oh also ch*ckle is a slur now
-My only real complaint is that Ted talks over Tucker like twice
-There is a confirmed fishing episode and I’m so hyped for it
-They said that they plan on having more frequent in person episodes :D
-The quality of the podcast so far has me optimistic for its future and I feel that the majority of cs fans that give it a chance will stay
-it also feels like the turning of a new leaf? In my personal opinion, cs felt off after the character ai episode and didn’t hit as hard but with TIE I feel like we are at a fresh start. As long as Ted and Tucker don’t publicly poke at the fandom it’ll be alright
-Speaking of the fandom, I’m betting that there will be a wave of Tucker (and Ted/Tucker by proxy) fics hitting on Ao3 any day now. I am both excited and terrified of this
-The boys promised a lot in their future patreon but ngl I’m kinda suspicious
-I’m excited to see what the boys have in store and I hope y’all join me :)
