For anybody wondering how to lock all your docs at once, I found a note that has this link to a Tumblr post that explains with visuals:

Gosh dang it
AO3 has been scraped, once again.
As of the time of this post, AO3 has been scraped by yet another shady individual looking to make a quick buck off the backs of hardworking hobby writers. This Reddit post here has all the details and the most current information. In short, if your fic URL ends in a number between 1 and 63,200,000 (inclusive), AND is not archive locked, your fic has been scraped and added to this database.
I have been trying to hold off on archive locking my fics for as long as possible, and I've managed to get by unscathed up to now. Unfortunately, my luck has run out and I am archive locking all of my current and future stories. I'm sorry to my lovelies who read and comment without an account; I love you all. But I have to do what is best for me and my work. Thank you for your understanding.

being a fanfic writer is so shitty right now. back then, we "just" had to worry about our works being reposted or plagiarized. now we also have to worry if someone is copy pasting our works into fucking chat gpt or any other ai so they can get new chapters while we haven't updated yet - and the worst part is that if this has already happened, we'll NEVER know.

"Not appreciating [generative]AI is ableist."-NaNoWriMo
Jean-Dominique Bauby wrote his memoir The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by blinking his fucking eyes one letter at a time.
Tumblr media
Don't tell me something techbros pulled from their asses 18 months ago and shoved down our throats is going to save the creative will of the human spirit.
Fuck you, NaNoWriMo. Fuuuuuck you.
As someone who grew up with a profoundly disabled close family friend, yes, certain tech would have helped him communicate better with the outside world. The year he passed away, researchers had just started successfully testing a paralyzed person tweeting directly from their mind. But it wasn't generative AI.
Disabled people are not human shields for your shitty opinions. Absolute shame on you

What the fuck what the fuuuuuck. Why is some mother fucker proudly posting AI generated fics on ao3??? Why isn’t there a report button.
YOU DONT GET PRIZES FOR YOUR COMPUTER GARBAGE. IF YOU DONT GIVE TIME TO CARE ABOUT YOUR READERS THEY SHOULDNT WASTE THEIR TIME ON ‘YOU’ CAUSE ITS NOT EVEN YOU.
AND THERES NO FUCKING WAY YOURE NOT STEALING FROM WRITERS ON THE PLATFORM TO TRAIN THEIR AI.
Writers can’t protect their work from people with accounts what the hell. Seriously if people keep doing this no one is gonna post real stories anymore.
Edit: they’re reported but I’m still so angry and betrayed

On the AI Bandwagon
Hustlebros: "DUDE! Using this one simple trick, you can make FIFTEEN HUNDRED GRAND in two days! FUCKING SICK! THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL! (Dubstep insert) You'll need a ChatGPT Plus sub, a Midjourney sub, a Voiceover AI sub and a computer that's beefy enough to run this Google Collab notebook without shitting the bed - but it's fuuuuucking easy, bro! Just eighteen steps! Anyone with a baller gaming PC and some disposable income can do it, so why don't you, br0e?!!!!!!"
Justifiably Panicking Artists and Authors: "This is filth. If you so much as breathe in the direction of generative AI, you're dead to me. Did you ask ChatGPT for a translation once or twice? You're subhuman trash and someone should cut your balls off."
Regular People in the middle: "Hey, um, I just wanted to test-drive ChatGPT to roleplay with one of my own characters, or I wanted to generate referential art for a private D&D campaign that won't generate a single cent - as in, you'll find no traces of it online at any level whatsoever. I don't want to get involved in a grift and I also don't want to picture myself as gutting the entire creative field - can we please get a measured response, here?"

I'm in the process of taking a state educational assessment despite being out of school for 15 years (long story, but fuck AI), and yesterday was the dreaded Math Portion. I hate math, always have. I got decent grades in it because I had to, but fuuuuuck math. And this test prohibited calculators.
And I got in there and sat down to take the test, and there was a lot of basic computation and logic problems and generally nothing above a middle-school level, and then I got to The Hard Problems. These were scattered throughout, but at this point I could kind of tell what the test thought was hard. And these Hard Problems?
They were all about crafts.
Fiber art, mostly. How big is this table if a tablecloth of these dimensions drapes like this? How much carpet do you need in inches if this is how much you need in feet? You need to measure rope and your only measuring tool is in the wrong units, so convert.
And I just kinda sat there having two thoughts, as someone who's been sewing since age 10 and runs a goddamn Etsy shop and makes her own clothes.
1. What the fuck. These questions aren't Hard. This is the back-of-the-envelope math I do in the fabric store, which I do without an envelope because who has envelopes anymore?
2. HAVE I BEEN DOING STATE-ASSESSABLE MATH ALL THESE YEARS WITHOUT KNOWING IT?! BETRAYAL!
Anyway, next time a student asks me when they're gonna use something in real life, I guess I have an answer.

Also!! The way that a lot of voice actors (who aren’t super famous A-lister, so working class) is by recording audio books. Recording an entire book can be a weeks to months long process and is a lot more challenging than you might think. It’s a real skill that these performers work on for years and the pay used to reflect that, but AI has the potential to wipe out the field entirely.
I’ve already seen what these AI voice generators are capable of. So far, I’ve been able to sort out the fakers pretty quickly, but there have been a few occasions where it took me longer than I would have liked before I realized I wasn’t listening to a real recording… and I hate that lol.
I think this tech has a use, I wont lie… it’s funny as fuck some of the shit you can make. My partner and I have entertained ourselves for hours on chatgpt, just making it it spit out weird stuff… but it has to be properly regulated. For starters, any AI generated content should be required to have a clearly visible disclaimer (or even multiple) that the material being viewed is AI generated. The potential for copyright infringement and spreading misinformation is concerning as hell!! And of course, studios should NOT be allowed to use it to replace voice actors, fuuuuuck that!!
Tumblr media
Rick and Morty is one of Adult Swim’s most popular shows, Spencer Grammer voices one of the major supporting characters on that show (Summer Smith), yet she wasn’t making enough money to qualify for SAG AFTRA’s health insurance during the first year of her child’s life.
This shit isn’t just cruel, it’s downright evil.
I know dipshits are gonna say “But these voice actors are making 15 grand, they have no right to complain!”
And to that I say, you try raising a child on a 15 grand budget with no health insurance.
The reason why you see so many voice actors saying that they would love to work on The Simpsons or Family Guy isn’t because those shows are still in their prime, it’s because they pay insanely well.
Jenny Yokobori has made more money voicing Comic Book Guy’s wife and doing additional voices on The Simpsons than she has voicing any other character.
Chris Edgerly managed to buy a house thanks to providing additional voices on The Simpsons.
I know it’s easy to think that voice actors are making large sums of money due to the amount of projects that they’re worked on, but that simply isn’t the case.
Hell, some voice actors can’t even afford to live in LA because it’s so expensive, so they end up living in Las Vegas or Arizona because it’s much cheaper, and they can just drive to LA if they have to record something in studio.
