Even though Miyo and Fuyu’s relationship has been rocky from the start, I do appreciate this addition from the anime adapters because it shows how Fuyu is willing to be a stand-in mother for Miyo. Weddings are usually such an emotional moment for mothers and daughters and with Sumi having passed on, Fuyu stepping in to fill a little bit of void in Miyo’s life was a nice gesture to welcome her into the Kudo family.

I'm actually so upset with the season's pacing 😑😑
What's with the insane speed??
We've skipped 90% of Fuyu's tsundere character hints. We skipped the whole talk Tadakiyo had with Kiyoka. We skipped 90% of Miyo's second talk with Fuyu. We are now midway chapter 5, AFTER 2 EPISODES. And because of the cuts, some of the dialogues don't even make sense!!
Why Miyo said that Kudo's house is so warm and kind and Fuyu is an amazing person, when earlier Fuyu nearly slapped her? Because Miyo earlier commented on the very high quality of the maid clothes she got and that they must have been made with the workers comfort and convenience in mind. And later, mentioned how the whole staff is very cheerful, supportive and they don't hesitate to talk with Fuyu (and Nae actually does comment on Fuyu's behaviour), while in Saimoris the servants didn't even dare to look at the family, not to mention talk back to them.
Why did Tadakiyo said that because of the strict upbringing, Kiyoka used to dislike women? Because Fuyu used to handpick the candidates for his wife and she was obsessed with finding the perfect lady for him, because she herself was taught to be nothing short of an exemplary lady for the household. And since Kiyoka is her only, beloved son, she was searching for a 100% ideal woman for him (... completely not taking his opinion into account but that's another thing).
Miyo doesn't have any of the qualities Fuyu thought a perfect lady fit worthy of the household must have, so she was pretty close to a breakdown seeing Miyo.
And yet the only thing we got was a passing mention of how Fuyu was raised to be an exceptional lady and how she's forcing herself to be an impeccable for the sake of the family, so please forgive her Miyu, she's kinda tsundere.
FUYU DESERVED BETTER.

Similarities between two of my favorite princely, loyal, and protective men of anime: Kioka Kudo compared to Zen Wistaria
1. Both have the prettiest, piercing blue eyes, and also handsome hair colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Both are highly trained high ranking official that seek to protect those within their care.
Kiyoka is a commander of the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit
Zen is the second prince of Clarines
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Both have relatives that they don’t necessarily get along with.
Kiyoka and his mother don’t see eye to eye, which definitely leads to some harsh tones. Even so, his mother does care for him; she just shows it in her unique way which doesn’t necessarily convey the message.
Zen and his older brother, Izana, have their differences did sure which cause not always seeing eye to eye either. Even so, though, they do have care that is conveyed in their own “brotherly” way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Both have a friend that they work with who is their comedic half. While the timing is not always appropriate, they do care about and respect these friends in their own way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Both have a woman in their life that, while seemingly shy at first, is very kind and looking out for others. Both women have unique things about them that initially peak their boy’s interest into keeping them around. As they spend more time together, the love between them grows.

My Happy Marriage Second Season Episode 13 Review + Final Thoughts - WHERE IS THE MARRIAGE?
Wait, what do you mean you’re gonna end the season without the wedding? This anime is called My Happy Marriage. WHERE IS THE MARRIAGE? The way they ended the season without showing the wedding is DIABOLICAL.
Tumblr media
Despite that, I do like the vibes this episode had. It felt like a happy ending to an long, tumultuous journey of stopping a madman. It’s like the ending sequence after defeating the final boss with characters going their separate ways or finding a new path in life and walking on it. For Kiyoka, he decides to resign from the military to live happily and peacefully with Miyo; don’t worry as Godou will be his successor! For Miyo, she was offered a position in the palace and working under Takaihito to help ability users. I think her decision to step back from fighting was a good choice befitting her. She only awakened her power and it’d be cruel to try and have her be separated from her fiancé when she was working tooth and nail to be able to be by his side. She even said that she cannot forget the fear she felt when a sword and a gun were pointed at her, showing off her disdain for violence. Miyo already has enough violence in her life; she needs peace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The preparation for the wedding was cute as an interaction between Hazuki and Fuyu is finally shown and they bicker a lot. Fuyu is about breaking away from traditional customs while Hazuki likes traditional customs. It’s quite interesting how they’re of different generations yet their mindsets are very different. Fortunately, Miyo is happy that Hazuki’s old wedding dress is being passed down to her. It means a lot as she never got to inherit Sumi’s wedding dress as it was destroyed when her father married Kanako and destroyed all of Sumi’s memorabilia. I also find it funny how Fuyu is being more tsundere each time she appears.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do like that Miyo and Kiyoka went on a date reminiscent of their very first outing together all the way back in Season 1, Episode 3. The only difference is that Miyo is a lot happier and the two are deeper in love together now. The two went on another date after visiting Takaihito and that’s when Kiyoka gives her a kanzashi, or a hair pin. In the past, Japanese men used to give women they’d marry hair pins as a sort of proposal item. I don’t think the custom of having rings was common back then. Miyo gives a present to Kiyoka too: a new hair tie. He now has a blue hair tie that matches his eyes; she certainly has a knack for finding colors suitable for her husband-to-be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I did mention that Usui got off too easy in the previous episode. The same applies to Arata here. I can’t believe he got away with shooting Kiyoka. That’s the second time he’s done it and he still gets no comeuppance for it.
Tumblr media
Overall, this was a good conclusion to the season and a new anime project has been announced for My Happy Marriage. Whether it be a season 3 or a movie, I’m still excited! I need to see them get married because it’s what they deserve and what the viewers and fans deserve. Let me know your thoughts on the finale!
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts
Compared to Season 1, Season 2 has less frustrating moments as Miyo and Kiyoka’s bond becomes deeper. It’s also nice to see Miyo developing more outside of her fiancé as she dealt with her mother-in-law and protecting her new girl friend Kaoruko. Not only that, she finally gets to have her powers awakened.
Social media likes to degrade Miyo, but I like her a lot! It’s really nice to see her be stronger in this season compared to the previous one. Miyo will stand up for herself this time around and she will tear down sexism to defend a girl she only befriended a day ago. Not only that, taking her husband-to-be from her will make her go on a stealth mission to rescue him. She may not be a fighter, but she can be quite plucky and that’s a good thing.
Because this season focuses a lot on Miyo, Kiyoka doesn’t get too much focus, but it makes sense given that he’s already got development from the previous season. This entire season has Kiyoka be the greenest flag and best fiance to Miyo and that’s a good thing to see. I do like that he’s mainly used as a trigger to get Miyo to be more proactive. It gives Kiyoka vulnerability and Miyo the strength to chase after her husband. I do love that he is the reason her powers awaken as her desire to rescue him was the cause of it all.
I do like the side characters presented here. They feel more involved compared to the previous season. Tadakiyo and Fuyu are interesting with how they interact with their son and future daughter-in-law and how it differs from each parent. There’s also Kaoruko who was a great addition to the cast but was taken away so soon. There’s also Mukadeyama who was a bit mean to Miyo, but managed to apology for his actions after the Usui incident. I also like Kazushi and Takaihito being more involved. I do wish that Unan was a bit more involved instead of being just the doctor guy. Heck, Godo gets his time to shine too! I guess Arata was handled well this season due to the twists and turns of his actions; I still think he’s still ugly and got off too lightly for shooting Kiyoka again. I think Kiyo was an adorable addition to the cast, but he was gone too quick.
I think Usui was a good villain, even if I wasn’t satisfied with his end. He was terrifying and creepy with his disillusionment towards the world and people not named Sumi. He created a cult and made his own special Grotesqueries just so he can overtake the government and the country to be able to create his ideal world that Sumi wanted. Like I mentioned before, he reminds me a lot of Obito Uchiha from Naruto. What I liked the most about Usui as a villain is that he comes with a lot of Usuba lore as the previous season constantly had the clan’s story be elusive. It’s not until this season where it’s told why the Usuba had to be secluded and how terrifying their abilities can be if used for the wrong purposes.
I think the best part of this anime was the voice cast because they all really amped up their casting prowess for the newly introduced characters and the leads showed off their talents in this season. Heck, Reina Ueda proved her capabilities back in Episode 9 where she was sobbing when her love was taken away. Yuya Uchida as Naoshi Usui is the runner-up for this season as he was consistent with Usui’s psychopathic tendencies. Give that man more roles, seriously.
The music and animation quality also improved a lot as there are more action sequences. I feel like Kinema Studio amped up their background setting game because I was super invested in looking at the pretty scenery. The first episode alone had so much gorgeous scenery that I had to pause to marvel at it. I also like that the studio stays consistent in their animation as I don’t see any signs of a drop in quality.
I really liked the second season! I hope that the next anime project will be as good! Let me know your thoughts on this anime as a whole!

My Happy Marriage & Going the Extra Mile for Your Enemy
Tumblr media
What does it mean to go the extra mile? Is it service with a smile and working late hours? Is it striving toward excellence and ensuring quality? Is it always being the last one to leave, making sure that all is as it should be? These are generally the kinds of things we mean nowadays when we talk about that extra mile, whether in the service industry, the business world, or in church. But Miyo in My Happy Marriage gives us a radically different picture of what going the extra mile really looks like—and one that is far closer to what Jesus was talking about in his Sermon on the Mount than what we often take it to mean two millennia on. So let’s dive in and see what Miyo and her journey over that extra mile can teach us!
In the premiere episode of the second season, Miyo and her fiancé Kiyoka travel to his family home where his mother, Fuyu, proves to be quite a piece of work. She takes an instant dislike to Miyo, who is the antithesis of her commanding, modern Westernized self, and makes it very clear that she considers our sweet heroine to be unworthy of her son and the Kudo family name. To say she turns up her nose at Miyo would be an understatement.
The following episode sees Kiyoka away for work, leaving Miyo to the mercies of Fuyu, who immediately orders the young woman to attend her. She gives her soon-to-be daughter-in-law a glare cool enough to turn her tea to ice and points at a maid’s uniform, “Change into that right now,” she instructs. Miyo must work for her keep. When the elderly housekeeper questions the wisdom of such treatment, Fuyu turns on her too, before Miyo interrupts politely and announces that she would like to help with the cleaning.

Kudo Shizuka Lyrics: Oka no Ue no Chiisana Taiyou (丘の上の小さな太陽; Tiny Sun on Top of a Hill)
English translation and romanization below the cut.
ENGLISH
Part 1. The Girl
I’m looking up at the sky on top of a hill There’s no one else here besides me Then I hold out my hand Across time And find the version of myself I’ve always wanted to be If that really is my destiny, Then why oh why Was I born here?
If you talk about your wishes, They won’t come true I always believed in miracles when I woke up in the morning Clutching my very first secret to my chest
Part 2. Love
The person I fell in love with Was a star that twinkled at daybreak I might love him, but we’ll never be together for all eternity I’m gazing upon my feelings as they soar through a forest of conifers, Swept away by the mist I wish I could at least see you In the dreams deep down Inside your heart right now My heart’s trembling Over feelings that shall never return They edge closer, then go back Bittersweet, like ripples on the water. hu...
The tracks left by sleighs That’ve disappeared on the distant horizon Stretch on like a shining road Do you think I’ll leave this town Someday, too? I’ll never forget those moments that sparkled so bright Or the premonition I sensed When I looked into your eyes, um...
If we’re going to grow up As surely as spring will come again Then I’d like to become the kind of person Who smiles through their tears, um...
Part 3. The Letter I Never Sent / Dear Mom
I still remember just how warm your embrace was The sweet perfume that wafted from your shoulders The stories you told me in a sing-song voice Your kind and gentle back to me, shivering In the room after you’d snuffed the winter lamps out Your star-like tears
I wanted you all to myself I wanted to make you happy all the time Then I finally learned That there’s nothing more boring Than a plain old goody two shoes...
I think what may have scared me Was looking in the mirror and realizing That I was starting to look more and more like you
The tiny little seeds that spilled From the palms of your hands onto the earth Make contact with the clear air And wake up for the very first time I’m sure the buds that began to breathe In the wind and the rain Will someday find suns of their very own

My Happy Marriage Season 2
Miyo's wedding kimono by Halka, colored by Anna Okamatsu
The Shiromuku is a traditional "pure-white" wedding kimono.
The pattern is inspired by the description in the novel of "graceful phoenix and large peony". The cloud shapes also includes auspicious motifs like the Sayagata pattern, which represents prosperity and longevity of the family, and the Seigaiha (blue sea waves) pattern, representing eternal peace, adding a touch of glamour and expressing wishes.
I edited it for a clearer view of the pattern:

for the url meme ^^ (just with Rean if you want to?)
Send me your URL and I’ll tell you
My Opinion on;
Character in general: Since we’re focusing on Reanbean I’ll start off and say that my first impression of him was the, “oh well here we go again with another generic jrpg protag trope”. And I’m not going to lie, even now my opinion of him hasn’t differed too far from that initial thought. Sen is a game that plays with character tropes anyways, not just Rean himself, so it wasn’t too surprising to see that he was the typical optimistic, kinda corny “we can do this guys!” type of character with a little bit of angsts thrown in. Even his oni side, while definitely interesting, wasn’t surprising in the long run since a lot of protag characters usually have something that makes them stand out and become stronger (or lament and self-loathe in Rean’s case). While it sounds like I’m taking digs at him, don’t get me wrong, I do like Rean. I haven’t played Sen 2 and 3 myself so I can’t say how much is different personality wise as the series goes on, but I do know that his life gets to a point where he probably just wishes he was dead, and it’s stuff like that that draws me in. I do in fact love that so far we’ve basically been seeing the opposite of most MC character stories of seeing them triumph and defeat the bad guys. Instead the games have been written where we see Rean’s decline into further self-loathing and depression as he loses loved ones, becomes a pawn in his enemy’s hands, and is forced into situations where he legitimately loses his sanity. I think THAT is what I enjoy the most about Rean Schwarzer, watching his fall into insanity as he loses more and more. How they play them: We haven’t interacted much so I don’t think I can give a fair say on this yet, but I am looking forward to seeing how this Rean turns out~The Mun: Fun, perky and doesn’t mind some spoilers which is A+. I’d probably die if I had to hold back from saying anything Sen 3 related. I enjoy talking to the mun ooc about Sen things and the occasional Danganronpa bit. Shame the fandom turned me off so much since I know they have quite a few DR muses. Maybe one day I’ll go back on Fuyu…
Do I:
RP with them: We’re starting to.Want to RP with them: Yep~
What is my;
Overall Opinion: I think you genuinely enjoy playing all the muses you have and from what I’ve seen you manage to cycle through a lot of them instead of just maining one or two (like myself *cough*) which is cool. I’m also going to take a little personal kudos for myself for the little push to the Rean make B) we need more Kiseki RPers and maybe this can be a start~ I do look forward to writing more Crow and Rean, especially since they’re my Sen OTP, so there is totally no bias there or anything *shuffles all my Crow/Rean pics under the bed* I enjoy talking with you and if I haven’t scared you away yet with my Crow obsession, then I count that as a win.
**Note: Mun’s answer are all to be completely honest. Don’t send url if you don’t want brutal honesty

My Happy Marriage Second Season Episode 11 Review - Fiancé Rescue Mission
Look at Miyo! She’s in a new outfit with her hair styled and she’s ready to barge into the military headquarters with her dream-sight ability to get her man back and ain’t no one stopping her. I just love how resolute she looks and acts in this episode. It’s serious character development! I feel like Mushu when he’s proud of Mulan.
Tumblr media
You know we’re in the climax when Miyo starts going around asking familiar faces for help. Kazushi joins Miyo’s party as her bodyguard as he’s the only one who can dispel the orbs. Goto and Mukadeyama are on Miyo’s side too, but have to be diversions for her. She even invited Tadakiyo to join their mission. Miyo means serious business when she’s inviting all these ability-users like she’s the usher for a Smash Bros game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s nice to see how the people that brought a bit of conflict in Miyo’s life have changed. First was Yoshiro, Miyo’s grandfather. He was originally a minor antagonist in the first season, but wasn’t as sinister as Arata. He just had a misguided view of how he should protect the last remnant of his daughter Sumi. Miyo was able to forgive him enough that she even invited him to her wedding in the spring.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is Fuyu. Fuyu did bring about some conflict earlier in the season where she didn’t acknowledge Miyo and even forced to make her wear a maid outfit. While her actions had been mean, it is understandable given the time period and how women are viewed in that era. While she did go on about how women marry not for love, which is also understandable, but some can do so for love too and finally acknowledges Miyo as she brushes her hair and straightens the hair ribbon she got from her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I find interesting is that the three people treading in the military base aren’t actually offensive fighters. It’s like going into a final dungeon with a party of mages in a sense. I do love seeing the offensive capabilities Miyo’s powers have in that they don’t kill, but put people into illusions and dream-like states. It’s definitely a terrifying power and it’s definitely understandable why it’s so coveted and why users have to be secluded because it’s a dangerous weapon if fallen into the wrong hands.
Tumblr media
I do love that while she could go confront Naoshi right away, Miyo’s first priority to heading straight towards Kiyoka and rescuing him and is successful. The couple is reunited! Though, it’s sad that Kiyo couldn’t stay for long.
Tumblr media
Now it’s off to the final boss together in the next episode, which got delayed until March 31. I can’t wait to see how this final battle will turn out. I want to see Kiyoka and Miyo work together to defeat Naoshi and Arata. What are your thoughts on this episode?
