My Happy Marriage Season 2
Title Cards + Flowers & Birds
Ep 1: Autumn leaves + 2 robins
Ep 2: Ginkgo and rowan tree leaves + wagtail seguro
Ep 3: Drunken hibiscus + female redpoll, representing Miyo. The flowers' meaning is "change of heart".
Ep 4: Pomegranate flowers + female kestrel (a small bird of prey), representing Kaoruko
Ep 5: Beadle and geranium + two female finch birds. The beadle represents Kaoruko's feelings, and the geranium represents the feelings of Miyo, Kaoruko, Kiyoka and Godo. The finch mean "independence and friendship".
Ep 6: No card
Ep 7: New Year decorations, flowers and a lucky crane (red-crowned crane), which symbolizes longevity and marital harmony
Ep 8: Camellia + goshawk. The camellia means "single-minded love, ideal love," in reference to Miyo's conversations with Hazuki and Kaoruko about love. The goshawk represents Takakura. The color purple is for Prince Takaihito.
Ep 9: Snow-covered cherry blossoms, like in Takaihito's words from the previous episode: "The snow-covered dream flowers bring the curtains of night down." Also features a male mandarin duck in the top right and a female one in the bottom left, looking at each other. Their eyes have a touch of Kiyoka's and Miyo's eye color. The top left corner also hides a gun.
Ep 10: No card
Ep 11: Pink phalaenopsis and lily of the valley + dove. The flowers mean "I love you," and "return of happiness", respectively. The long, thin leaves are reminiscent of bear grass, and it incorporates the leaves of heart vine, which is believed to bring love to fruition. The dove represents Kiyo-kun.
Ep 12: Thistles + heron. The thistle has a variety of flower meanings such as "revenge," "parting," "don't touch me," and "peace of mind". The heron is deeply connected to the concept of life and death around the world.
Ep 13: Flowers from the ending + a couple of mandarin ducks. The flowers include cherry blossoms, lilies of the valley, canola flowers, gerberas, lillies, etc.
The title cards were drawn by Halka, with adjustments by color designer Anna Okamatsu

the only issue i have with the my happy marriage anime is the redesign of these three

#my happy marriage#watashi no shiawase na kekkon#kazushi tatsuishi#hazuki kudou#takaihito#i can forgive them changing/adding some scenes and dialogue because it helps understand the world + plot better#but they didn't have to steal all of kazushis flair#and that's not even takaihito thats a completely different person#also taking away their fans as if that wasn't a core part of their character???#i can give a pass to hazuki because she looks good sometimes but her tacky green dress is unforgivable#may speaks#watakon#edit: now that ive watched and read it together they removed a lot of important stuff lol#i wonder why there were so many interesting things they just skipped over

My Happy Marriage Second Season Episode 13 Review + Final Thoughts - WHERE IS THE MARRIAGE?
Wait, what do you mean you’re gonna end the season without the wedding? This anime is called My Happy Marriage. WHERE IS THE MARRIAGE? The way they ended the season without showing the wedding is DIABOLICAL.
Despite that, I do like the vibes this episode had. It felt like a happy ending to an long, tumultuous journey of stopping a madman. It’s like the ending sequence after defeating the final boss with characters going their separate ways or finding a new path in life and walking on it. For Kiyoka, he decides to resign from the military to live happily and peacefully with Miyo; don’t worry as Godou will be his successor! For Miyo, she was offered a position in the palace and working under Takaihito to help ability users. I think her decision to step back from fighting was a good choice befitting her. She only awakened her power and it’d be cruel to try and have her be separated from her fiancé when she was working tooth and nail to be able to be by his side. She even said that she cannot forget the fear she felt when a sword and a gun were pointed at her, showing off her disdain for violence. Miyo already has enough violence in her life; she needs peace.
The preparation for the wedding was cute as an interaction between Hazuki and Fuyu is finally shown and they bicker a lot. Fuyu is about breaking away from traditional customs while Hazuki likes traditional customs. It’s quite interesting how they’re of different generations yet their mindsets are very different. Fortunately, Miyo is happy that Hazuki’s old wedding dress is being passed down to her. It means a lot as she never got to inherit Sumi’s wedding dress as it was destroyed when her father married Kanako and destroyed all of Sumi’s memorabilia. I also find it funny how Fuyu is being more tsundere each time she appears.
I do like that Miyo and Kiyoka went on a date reminiscent of their very first outing together all the way back in Season 1, Episode 3. The only difference is that Miyo is a lot happier and the two are deeper in love together now. The two went on another date after visiting Takaihito and that’s when Kiyoka gives her a kanzashi, or a hair pin. In the past, Japanese men used to give women they’d marry hair pins as a sort of proposal item. I don’t think the custom of having rings was common back then. Miyo gives a present to Kiyoka too: a new hair tie. He now has a blue hair tie that matches his eyes; she certainly has a knack for finding colors suitable for her husband-to-be.
Also, I did mention that Usui got off too easy in the previous episode. The same applies to Arata here. I can’t believe he got away with shooting Kiyoka. That’s the second time he’s done it and he still gets no comeuppance for it.
Overall, this was a good conclusion to the season and a new anime project has been announced for My Happy Marriage. Whether it be a season 3 or a movie, I’m still excited! I need to see them get married because it’s what they deserve and what the viewers and fans deserve. Let me know your thoughts on the finale!
Final Thoughts
Compared to Season 1, Season 2 has less frustrating moments as Miyo and Kiyoka’s bond becomes deeper. It’s also nice to see Miyo developing more outside of her fiancé as she dealt with her mother-in-law and protecting her new girl friend Kaoruko. Not only that, she finally gets to have her powers awakened.
Social media likes to degrade Miyo, but I like her a lot! It’s really nice to see her be stronger in this season compared to the previous one. Miyo will stand up for herself this time around and she will tear down sexism to defend a girl she only befriended a day ago. Not only that, taking her husband-to-be from her will make her go on a stealth mission to rescue him. She may not be a fighter, but she can be quite plucky and that’s a good thing.
Because this season focuses a lot on Miyo, Kiyoka doesn’t get too much focus, but it makes sense given that he’s already got development from the previous season. This entire season has Kiyoka be the greenest flag and best fiance to Miyo and that’s a good thing to see. I do like that he’s mainly used as a trigger to get Miyo to be more proactive. It gives Kiyoka vulnerability and Miyo the strength to chase after her husband. I do love that he is the reason her powers awaken as her desire to rescue him was the cause of it all.
I do like the side characters presented here. They feel more involved compared to the previous season. Tadakiyo and Fuyu are interesting with how they interact with their son and future daughter-in-law and how it differs from each parent. There’s also Kaoruko who was a great addition to the cast but was taken away so soon. There’s also Mukadeyama who was a bit mean to Miyo, but managed to apology for his actions after the Usui incident. I also like Kazushi and Takaihito being more involved. I do wish that Unan was a bit more involved instead of being just the doctor guy. Heck, Godo gets his time to shine too! I guess Arata was handled well this season due to the twists and turns of his actions; I still think he’s still ugly and got off too lightly for shooting Kiyoka again. I think Kiyo was an adorable addition to the cast, but he was gone too quick.
I think Usui was a good villain, even if I wasn’t satisfied with his end. He was terrifying and creepy with his disillusionment towards the world and people not named Sumi. He created a cult and made his own special Grotesqueries just so he can overtake the government and the country to be able to create his ideal world that Sumi wanted. Like I mentioned before, he reminds me a lot of Obito Uchiha from Naruto. What I liked the most about Usui as a villain is that he comes with a lot of Usuba lore as the previous season constantly had the clan’s story be elusive. It’s not until this season where it’s told why the Usuba had to be secluded and how terrifying their abilities can be if used for the wrong purposes.
I think the best part of this anime was the voice cast because they all really amped up their casting prowess for the newly introduced characters and the leads showed off their talents in this season. Heck, Reina Ueda proved her capabilities back in Episode 9 where she was sobbing when her love was taken away. Yuya Uchida as Naoshi Usui is the runner-up for this season as he was consistent with Usui’s psychopathic tendencies. Give that man more roles, seriously.
The music and animation quality also improved a lot as there are more action sequences. I feel like Kinema Studio amped up their background setting game because I was super invested in looking at the pretty scenery. The first episode alone had so much gorgeous scenery that I had to pause to marvel at it. I also like that the studio stays consistent in their animation as I don’t see any signs of a drop in quality.
I really liked the second season! I hope that the next anime project will be as good! Let me know your thoughts on this anime as a whole!

So I've discovered that in LNs Prince Takaihito already has a wife and a daughter. Which is interesting, because I thought he had a thing for that assistant who was the only person he could trust (and It was mutual)

I have a natural tendency to mistrust political figures XP But I like Kudo and he's a decent enough judge of human nature. So I'll give this one a pass.

"man are there even any trans women in anime voice acting? I guess kaba-chan and avu-chan have both done a little voice acting but it's not their main thing. I don't know if there are any trans women in anime who are voiced by trans women"
The only Japanese VA (who is a VA as their main thing/one of their main things) I can find that are trans are both trans men: Shiki Aoki (who you would recognize as Asuta/Asta in Helck) & Rinu (who you might remember as Moegi Emo's younger brother Shunta in Kiratto Pri☆Chan.
In terms of English dubs of Anime though, Kayleigh McKee is a trans woman who voices the canonical trans woman Okiku in One Piece (It's honestly shocking how good Okiku is as trans rep). She has also voiced the canonically non-binary characters Margarette Macaron in Mashle & Testament in Guilty Gear Strive. And while not canonically trans, she also voices the very gender Prince Takaihito in My Happy Marriage.
She's also the English voice for Pina in Beastars.
I'm glad to hear there's at least one trans woman in eng dubbing and she's getting a lot of trans and Gender roles. and pina

First Impression: My Happy Marriage Season 2

Miyo’s Dream Sight may have awakened now, but she’s only just beginning to learn how to make sense of what she sees. To help her, the new head of the Usuba clan is…joining them for breakfast? Kiyoka is pretty grumpy about the whole thing. Later that day, while Miyo is out shopping with Kiyoka and his sister, she senses something sinister watching her, when suddenly, an elderly gentleman taps her on the shoulder, proclaiming how delighted he is to meet her before the wedding. Miyo is understandably perplexed, especially considering his mildly flirty attitude, but all becomes clear when he announces himself to be her future father-in-law. The four go for refreshments, and Kiyoka’s demeanor is more frosty than ice water when his father asks him to come sort out some trouble with grotesqueries in their neighborhood. But when Kiyoka receives a directive from Prince Takaihito telling him to go and do just that, the young couple decide to make an occasion of it and set off to the Other Kubo Residence together. What kind of reception awaits Miyo in the main Kubo home? What will Kiyoka’s mother be like? And why did Prince Takaihito want Kiyoka—and maybe even Miyo too—to take this journey?

My Happy Marriage Second Season Episode 8 Review - Girls' Night
Somehow, My Happy Marriage became political, but that’s to be expected in a way? Like with the Gifted Communion gradually becoming a huge threat and how their presence affects civilians, it’s to be expected that there might be political issues along the way. In fact, the whole first fourth of the episode is basically that. There’s so much strife within the military that it’s crazy. Takakura does suspect that there could be a traitor amongst these people and I do wonder who it could be…
Other than the strife, the rest of the episode was super wholesome with Miyo having a girls night with Hazuki, Yurie, Takaihito and Kaoruko in a Zoom call—I’m glad that she’s not completely AWOL-ed. It’s a nice little respite yet I still can’t help but to feel a little anxious because this could be the last bits of wholesomeness they get for a while. Miyo tries to understand the concept of love as Hazuki breaks it own in her own perspective. She even discusses this with Kiyoka when the two finally get the chance to share a futon together; the way they had their first squabble was so cute.
However, that’s where the cute moments end as this episode is basically building up ominous tension. Miyo’s conversation with Takaihito is basically that. His words are cryptic, yet it does have foreboding implications. There’s also the stuff with Arata. He’s got that flag waving over him. Not only that, the Minister of Education guy really soured the whole thing with him wanting to use the Usubas for his own gain. Why does that man’s assistant feel like he’s Usui in disguise or is working for him?
Also, if you’re thinking Takaihito is a woman, he’s a man, but very androgynous. Have your head canons all you want, but remember he’s voiced by Akira Ishida, meaning that any character that he voices will either be suspicious as heck or very gender-fluid—actually, it’s been a while since he voiced an androgynous gender-fluid character…
I’m super conflicted right now. On one hand, I want these happy, cute moments to keep going, yet I also want to see how the plot unfolds. What about you? What do you want?

My Happy Marriage light novel spoilers
There were two moments in My Happy Marriage LN volume 4 that made me wonder what Kiyoka was thinking.
First is their walk after dropping off Yurie in Chapter 2:

I just wonder why Kiyoka said “… Please, don’t hate me.” It couldn’t possibly be him agreeing to Prince Takaihito’s request that they rely on Miyo’s Dream-Sight to prevent casualties as much as possible since this was before Kiyoka made the wrong decision to go after the Emperor and left Miyo defenseless against Usui since that event made Prince Takaihito decide to have Miyo stay at the Palace. I assume it hasn’t been decided in volume 4 that Prince Takaihito rely on Miyo’s gift yet.
I initially thought that maybe Kiyoka was pre-apologizing for being too overprotective with Miyo but I thought maybe this would be clarified much more later on. I kept waiting for it but it never happened.
The only other explanation I can think of was Kiyoka was becoming more overwhelmed by his own feelings for Miyo he wasn’t sure if it was an appropriate thing in as stated Volume 5:
Chapter 2:

Chapter 3:

But I'm not sure if it fits.
___
And the other one I'm wondering about is what Kiyoka was overthinking about in Chapter 4 Volume 4 after the Godou hospital visit:

I thought maybe Kiyoka was being jealous of Godou here because Miyo wanted to visit him but if he was, he wouldn't leave her alone with him (Kiyoka does get jealous but not possessive, I mean, he let her hung out with Kouji even tho I think he suspects that he likes her. He trusts Miyo not to be unfaithful to him because of her confession). I have a theory on why he left her alone with Godou at the hospital.
...
I just thought I post my thoughts in case some people have different ideas or have more in-depth insights in the scenes.

i just binged my happy marriage and the weirdest thing to me is that nothing i saw about it before i watched it mentioned it was cinderella in au taishou era japan with superpowers and cursed zombie creatures
i would have checked it out SO much quicker if you had told me that lmao
if any of you are wondering: it was not good, and i don’t really recommend it. the characters were all kind of just vague outlines with no real meat (excepting the love interest’s sister, who is a modern Bright Young Thing, loved her.) BUT it was strangely compelling to me for whatever reason, hence i binged
probably just the “bizarre twist on a fairy tale” aspect, i am a sucker for that shit. so i guess i DO recommend it if you too are a sucker for that shit.
(YET NONE OF THE DESCRIPTIONS I HAVE SEEN OF IT EVEN MENTION IT’S FUCKING CINDERELLA WHY????)
in the beginning i was sure it must have been adapted from an otome dating sim, bc it was like “here is the love interest most prominently displayed on the marketing materials and who the anime will pair her with. here is the childhood friend. here is the colorful dandy. here is the yandere one. yep those are the other options in the game,” but no, it was originally a web novel. i am convinced the author originally dreamt it up as a dating sim & lacked the resources for that lol
ETA: OH also i forgot to mention akira ishida has a small role in this as “prince takaihito” (lol). unfortunate that rl prince takahito didn’t look like this

anyway what i mean to say is i love you akira ishida i haven’t heard your beautiful voice in so long where have you been 😭 (answer: in things i have not watched 😭😭)
#my happy marriage#watashi no shiawase na kekkon#i also wonder why they went with the tree instead of the older fish for the whole ‘commune with my mom’s spirit’ thing#i feel like the fish would have been better#your stepmom and sister eating your mom is such a primal image lol idk THERE WERE PSUEDO-ZOMBIES OK it would have made sense
