        It was two o'clock in the morning and you couldn't fall asleep. Sae, who was next to you, his head, nuzzling against your back, was sleeping peacefully. It was cute to see him soundlessly sleeping against you but that's not the reason why you couldn't fall asleep. You grabbed your phone from the wooden night stand next to you and started going on Instagram. You were scrolling and saw that some of your friends were posting pictures of places they were going with their partner. But of course, Sae always comes home late, either training or having a soccer tournament. What are the chances of him spending quality time with you or go on outings? Quite rare to be honest. You then go on Google to search up "Things to do for couples", the results were going to a cafe or hiking, maybe going to an expensive mall but obviously you don't need anything from expensive malls since they're all Chanel or Louis Vuitton, fancy fancy fancy brands...  You could feel Sae shift positions. The next thing you knew, he was awake, rubbing his right eye. Although your phone's brightness was on the lowest, he still somehow woke up. "Y/n? How come you're still awake?" he asks, perhaps still half awake. He then turns on the mini white ceramic lamp next to him. You turn of your phone and held it tight, "Um... The thing is, I couldn't fall asleep. Because I wanted to do something fun with you tomorrow, like a date. But I mean, you don't have to go with me and I'm aware that you don't have much time either... I was just researching places to go, nothing else." You let out a small, weak smile, in the process of battling the urge of wanting to cry a little since you barely got to spend time with Sae. Suddenly, Sae got up, walked to the nightstand next to you and kneeled down. He opened the lowest drawer and got out a folded sheet of paper, written with black ink. He then hands the piece of lined paper to you. "Here, it's a list of all the things we could do together. The front has outdoor and indoor activities and the back has things we could do at home..." Sae looked away, from slight embarrassment. His cheeks were lightly tinted with a shade of pink, and he definitely avoided eye contact with you.

        Your face instantly lights up, eyes widened completely. "When did you have time for all of this?!" "I wrote it during breaktime, since I was bored. Everyone wanted to know what I was writing..." You bursted out laughing, "What did you tell them? I'm so curious!" "I told them directly that it was for you..." your face was instantly flushed with pink. There was a long pause of awkward silence until Sae pointed at the list of activities "Go ahead, you can pick anything." you nodded, to agree. Still, it was quite shocking that he told everyone that he was dating you, etc. You looked at the sheet of paper and the following list of activities listed. You then made up your mind, wanting to go to a café with Sae. "Hey, should we go to a café and walk around after?" "Anything you'd like." Sae smiled. You jump on Sae and gave him a big hug, smiling with joy. Sae gave you a kiss on the lips, and your cheeks. The two of you continue to stay in each other's embrace. 

       "Say, when do you want to go to that café?" you ask curiously, looking up at Sae. Sae didn't answer until ten seconds later, "Today. At ten o'clock, we'll leave." "Sounds like a plan." a few minutes later, your eyelids start to feel heavy and you doze off, still embracing Sae. He gently strokes pieces of your hair, tucking a piece behind your ear. "You need to regain energy first before getting all excited..." he whispered then let out a soft chuckle.

The reason why we didn't learn the names of the chapter 1 suspects is because we didn't need to. It didn't matter what their names were, only their roles as the priest, the nun with a broken arm, the servant who found the rope ladder in the incinerator and couldn't commit the first murder due to his size, and the regular worshipper with no access to the incinerator but with a lot of knowledge on the Nail Man. Same as the boy that Yuma helps.

In chapter 2, Kurumi knew the suspects personally - they were going to the same academy, and there is really no better way to refer to them other than by their names.

In chapter 3, Yuma is being personally introduced to the Resistance by Shachi, in order to get to know them somewhat and possibly get persuaded to either join or work for them. We need their names for that.

In chapter 4, there is literally One Guy, Dr. Huesca, and there is absolutely no reason not to call him by his name. Fink is also here but who cares about Fink let's be honest.

We didn't need to attach ourselves to the church crew. Yuma and Halara were at the time pretending to be peacekeepers doing an interrogation. It's really not a strange or bad writing choice. It would be way more odd if we got introduced to Father Adeline, Sister Fuyuko, the servant guy Josh Smith we don't really respect him that much tbh, and don't forget our favourite regular Dark Iplier who puts his whole wallet on the tray every sunday so we forgive him for replacing the holy water in the stoup with diesel and tempting small children to chug it for fake pokemon cards

Hey...so this one not my request but it was mori's simp reader's ability version update (i base her ability on Kirishima's quirk but i want to add something more) and her skill that she have so please don't post it this information was spoiler about reader's backstroy too

So like you know Mori's simp reader have ability name 'Loyalty of a soldier' it was ability pass by bloodline from her grandfather to her father to Fuyuko and to her first son/daughter if she having child (It never happen because reader want to be childfree woman and being mafia excutive was hard to be mother too) reader's family have agreement with goverment to send first son/daughter who have ability to become soldier and serve goverment but reader's father (his name was Fuyuki) don't want his daughter to be suffer like him so he cut tie with his mother (reader's grandmother) and run away from home with his wife. Fuyuki didn't tell reader about ability because he want to protect her from goverment. After year reader read Fuyuki's diary so she know more about her ability more. (Mori also know, In Fuyuki's diary he write about Chuya so Mori try to find information about Arahabaki project but....Mori rip Arahabaki project page so reader not going to see it that why she don't know much about Chuya at first)

'Loyalty of soldier' was ability can harden skin user but if trianing more they can harden other organ both outside and inside body, he/she can pull organ out and use it as a weapons too. Ability going to active as long as he/she keep calm and don't angry, shock and worried or ability going to disapper. After ability user dead his/her body going to turn in to harden iron and it can turn in to weapons too (other reason goverment try to keep this ability user's bodies) he/she can use full form ability called 'Painless' by stab on his/her hand but be careful if use 'Painless' too long he/she can dead and doctor have to change his/her heart he/she going to come back to life, he/she can turn crazy by dead bodies hallucinations. Alright i said too much already, it have more information but it will add more later

So here is Fuyuko's ability in 15 year old and in her normal self can do :

- She can harden her own skin to be hard to protect her from damage hit her and it can couter damage to enemy too

- She can harden her skin untill it sharp to stab enemy (she use it when Chuya beating her up in first meeting when they are 15 year old when he stap on her face she active her ability to stab Chuya's feet and beating him up in fifteen arc)

- She can active her ability to stop bleeding from injury (closing her wound) in awhile but if it too long she going lose her blood more

- She can make her body heavy by active ability and harden her body, she can use that body part to hit other too (other reason Chuya in 15 year can use his ability to throw her up in sky when they first fight in fifteen arc)

- Other ability can't hurt her when she active her ability as long as she keep her cool unless it was Dazai

- If Dazai touch her, he going to nuffer her ability longer than other ability

Here are Fuyuko's ability after she train when she was 22 year old :

- She can make her nail sharp it can rip iron or human body

- She can active ability on her arms and legs to be more sharp like a knives

- If her arms, legs and neck was break she can active her ability can harden her organ to be normal to find doctor (it can't be too long)

- She can pull her body part like hair, nail or teeth and active her ability to turn them into small weapons as long person who touch it not Dazai

Here are her 'Painless' can do:

- After her active 'Painless' she have suffer from hallucinations but reader can keep her cool about this (i mean she was mafia member so it become normal from her)

- She don't feel any pain anymore

- Any weapon or weak abilities can't hurt her (it have to be something strong like Chuya's 'Corruption' can harm her)

- She can control all bone inside her body to pass her skin and use it as a weapons or protect her

- After Dazai nuff her she feel pain more than normal 10 time but she can carry herself

Here are her normal(?) skill she have :

- Even her left eyed not that good she can still shoot gun as long as it don't have too much light or she going to hurt her eyes

- I will be honest she was good at every weapons both use and make it she also know how to ruin enemy weapons too as long as it was normal weapons

- Her martial art was very good, she just below than Chuya but everytime they spar train room going to break

- She was good at machine, she can fix thing around Port Mafia and sometime she can make something werid to prank on people too

- She only taste sweet and bitter teste but she have new skill instead she can taste thing and know it was poison (she get this skill when polices torture her)

- Like you know she have very high pain and poison tolerance because she have very high endurance than other member.

- She was strong she can lift so many heavy things in one round or break thing

- She wasn't fast and flexible like other but she good at observation she can notice werid thing around her

- Like you know she reading book so she can copy everything around her in paper give it to other (even it was messy handwriting)

- She can keep calm when in danger as long as her team still with her and safe (reason Mori like to send her alone when he want her to destroy enemy)

A quick storyboard I sketched out last night (in shorts/vertical format). Dunno if I'll end up actually doing it, but just a quick thing with my ocs Ash (red) and Nicholas (green) to the song Lovesick by Laufey. Basically starts off with them in their room after Ash confesses to Nicholas and are now sitting in the dark contemplating/can't sleep because they both feel like there is something between them but they've each spent time with other people who they now also have feelings for. Nicholas just has a small crush/interest in Fuyuko (yellow) since he's only known her for a few days and also doesn't really know his feelings for Ash. Ash has spent like 3 weeks with Chanun (pink) and has fallen in love with him but also loves Nicholas even though they'll never use that word at this point. Then each having a flashback of their crushes and cuddles. Then back to them in their own room and then before they're gonna talk about their feelings for each other. Not shown but eventually it comes to the conclusion that any romantic relationship between Ash and Nicholas is doomed and not meant to be which is explored in a whole thing I'm writing off to the side and this would be just a small piece plucked from it. Also ik poly is def a thing and Ash would be perfectly fine with it, but Chanun isn't ok with Nicholas at all due to some circumstances, so at least romantically, Ash only can choose one. (If anyone wants to beta read, cewl, but it is 18+)

All The Lovers In The Night - Mieko Kawakami

Finished: 21/06/23

The story follows Fuyuko Ire, a freelance writer struggling to connect with those around her. After meeting a man called Mitsutsuka, her view on the world begins to change.

Fuyuko’s quiet nature allows those around her to feel comfortable going into detail about their own views on life. This leads to many interesting conversations such as the role of women in society and how women may uphold the expectations put on them.

Kawakami’s writing is stunning throughout. She uses a beautiful motif of light which is thoroughly explored across the novel. My favourite section was her description of how a piano piece by Chopin has similar qualities to light:

“That slowly winding spiral stairway of light ascended freely through the dark, and though I was unsure where it was taking me, or what I would find when I arrived, as long as the music was playing, I knew that there was nothing to fear”

It was a great read and I’d recommend it to fans of slower paced literary fiction and character studies :)

currently reading ‘all the lovers in the night’ by meiko kawakami and here are my (less than!) mid-way thoughts:

fuyuko irie, the protagonist, is a freelance proofreader living a lonely, melancholy and mundane life in the city of tokyo. contemporary tokyo is viewed as a lively, vibrant city and fuyuko is a stark contrast to this atmosphere. she is described to be a home-dweller, never leaving the confines of her house and without any company except for her work-friend, hijiri (a character whose opinions and thoughts i am drawn to on a spiritual level).

it would be an understatement to describe kawakami’s writing as impeccable. additionally, kudos to the translators - sam bett and david boyd - for capturing such deep and heartfelt emotions in another language, making it accessible for readers across the world. 

i have previously read ‘heaven’ by meiko kawakami which is a devastating story on bullying and violence in schools. already, it seems as though this story has a softer, more hopeful tone to it than ‘heaven’ which was extremely dark and graphic and left me feeling empty and in absolute pain. i’ve reached the part of the story where mitsutsuka (the love interest?) meets fuyuko and they begin a conversation around light. there is a subtle charm to mitsusuka’s character which i believe is the reason why fuyuko is drawn to act and feel unusually, instigating conversations and feeling overwhelmed by him calling out her name. she is flustered in every interaction with him so far which makes me hope that this chemistry will not end tragically because my hopelessly romantic heart could not possibly bear that. the whole prospect of ‘light’ being the first common interest among them feels very metaphorical and intentional. reading the blurb, one particular line that i would like to highlight is “her one source of solace : light”. it almost translates into mitsutsuka being this new found “light” in human form that awakens something new in her. i find this concept quite fascinating since he is also a physics teacher which would mean the scientific definitions of light may also play into the plot.

if they were to speak about the law of dispersion of light and somehow integrate this subject into their interactions in such a way that each colour of light represents a different stage in her life or a different emotion that she had previously never felt due to the resurgence of past memories, that would be incredible. nevertheless, i am intrigued by the plot and characters as well as the setting of this story and would like to see how everything unfolds.

        No joke, period cramps hurt a lot. What's included in the monthly cycles are also mood swings, you're definitely ten times extra sensitive when it's that time of the month. Well today, you woke up quite late, maybe around eleven o'clock or so. Next to the wooden night stand, there's a white envelope. You take it and gently ripped off the cute little pink heart sticker on it. Then, you reached for the folded white piece of paper. The note read;

Y/n, you probably woke up to see this note by the nightstand. Around this time I'm probably not home. I may come home around nine o'clock, do whatever you'd like for the whole day. As always, I love you.

        You smiled reading the note and the "I love you" that Sae wrote down in black ink. After being fully awake (maybe lying in bed for an extra 10 minutes), you straightened the bed sheets and comforter then started feeling hungry and so, you headed down to the kitchen and made some breakfast. After eating some toast with avocado and eggs, you decided to take a shower and do some skin care. Finally, you just plop on the navy blue sofa and decided to just binge watch Tales of the Nine Tailed since it seemed interesting. You got your phone and scrolled on Twitter to see if there's anything new. Maybe after one or two episodes of Nine Tailed, you got sudden cramps. It felt extremely agonizing to the point where you thought you were on the verge of death. So now change of plans. For the entire day you're not going to be binge watching some k-drama but you're simply just going to wrap yourself in a blanket, tightly clench on your stomach while lying on the couch, play dead, and wait for Sae to come home. 

༊*·˚ around 9 o'clock

        You hear the keys jingling and the sound of a door opening and closing. "I'm home" Sae calls out but it was dead silent. "Saeee..." you whine. Sae heads over to the couch and sees you lying down, wrapped in a white fluffy blanket. You sniffled, there were dry tear stains on your cheeks and he could clearly see them, your eyes were also quite puffy and red. "Angel, what happened?" Sae looks at you, a very concerned look on his face. "Cramps..." you pout. Sae gently strokes your head then heads to the kitchen to warm up some milk and a hot water bottle. A few minutes later, he then proceeds to give you a mug with warm milk and a plush-like hot water bottle. "Thank you." you then take a sip of the warm milk from the light colored orange ceramic mug. "You're welcome. Is there anything else you'd like?" "Hug..." you looked away, feeling a little embarrassed. Sae then kisses you on the cheek and embraces you in his arms for a long long time. You nuzzle against his neck, much like a cat. "Is there anything you'd like to do or watch?" your face instantly glows up. "I want to watch Spirited Away with you!!" A smile appeared on Sae's face. "Of course."

        About 50 minutes left, you fell asleep against Sae. Sae grabs the remote and turns off the TV, afraid that the sound and brightness would wake you up. This all ends when he whispers a "I love you" and slowly falling asleep next to you.

Here’s a bunch of my ROTTMNT OCs I’ve made that I’ll never get around to writing stories with (I cannot plan out a plot for a story to save my life, essays were the bane of my existence in school.). If you want to use them in your stories, ask for permission first and and give credit. Same with art of said OCs.

This first OC’s visual design was inspired vaguely by Alopex in the IDW comics, although quite a bit is changed.

First name: Fuyuko (‘Fuyu’ meaning ‘winter’ and ‘Ko’ meaning ‘child’ in Japanese)

Last name: Hiramatsu (‘Hira’ meaning ‘level, even, peaceful’ and ‘matsu’ meaning ‘pine tree, fir tree’)

Age: About the same age as Raph

Pronouns: She/Her

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Ethnicity: Japanese (Yokai)

Nationality: Second generation Japanese American

Languages: Currently knows English, Japanese, Spanish, and is currently working on Mandarin Chinese

Voice Actor: Erika Mendez (Think Ryuko Matoi from Kill la Kill)

Half kitsune on her father’s side (who currently has seven tails, being almost seven centuries old), Half Yuki Onna on her mother’s side (I’m thinking that in the ROTTMNT universe, instead of leaning more towards ghost then yokai like according to real life folklore, Yuki Onna are instead the purely yokai reincarnations of human women who die in the snow, born by asexual reproduction from other Yuki Onna. A Yuki Onna can choose to either have children this way, which produces only Yuki Onna daughters, or by reproducing through sexual reproduction with either yokai, humans, hanyou (half yokai half humans), or mutants, which produces half Yuki Onna)

Family: Her father (Hiramatsu Osamu, or Sam by his wife and close friends) is the CEO of a huge (we’re talking double digit billions) green technology company with a presence in both the human world (thanks to the kitsune’s in born ability to assume a human disguise. Kitsune can also assume a fully fox form but with their multiple tails as the only sign of what they truly are) and the yokai world.

Her mother (Hiramatsu Sumiko) is a former well renowned trauma surgeon, current housewife (Sumiko ends up encouraging Leo to pursue paramedic training in the yokai realm, after seeing his talent as a medic, informing him that the Hidden City had it’s own version of a GED, as well as a few colleges and universities that hold EMS training courses).

Fuyuko also has two younger siblings with her sister (Hiramatsu Yukiko, Japanese for ‘snow child’, two years younger then Fuyuko, Inattentive ADHD) being the middle child and her brother (Hiramatsu Rin, ADHD) being the youngest (five years younger then Fuyuko, as well as the heir to her father’s company).

Appearance (yokai form):

Hair: white hair with ice blue highlights (Think one of those long haired side braided faux hawk hairstyles) and white eyebrows

Eyes: Gold eyes (inherited from her father)

Body: Two white fox like ears on the top of her head with no human ears on the sides of her head. One white fox tail with ice blue tip. Pale, almost translucent skin (result of her Yuki Onna ancestry). Hourglass body type (due to her kitsune ancestry, kitsune have a bit of a reputation for being seductive according to real life folklore).

Appearance (in born human disguise): Now has two human ears on the side of her head instead of her fox like ones, skin is a more human looking pale, hair and eyebrows are now black (still in a long haired side braided faux hawk hairstyle), eyes are now dark brown, no tail. Looks like a normal human of Japanese ancestry. Still retains hourglass body type.

Usual attire: Tends to go for a ‘punk subculture’ clothing aesthetic (partly to irritate her father, and partly because she thinks it looks cool).

Casual: Light grey denim vest with rhinestones on the shoulders, white Trivium rock band logo t shirt (logo itself is black), silver chain necklace with padlock, three row black faux leather spiked bracelets, light gray denim short shorts, black tights, light grey high tops

Fun Night Out: black faux leather jacket, black short sleeve crop top, black faux leather choker with silver studs,red and black plaid thigh length skirt, black fishnet tights, black faux leather steel toe boots

Formal: White pantsuit with ice blue button up shirt, silver diamond snowflake necklace (birthday gift from her nine tailed kitsune grandfather, whom she holds more fondness towards then her father), ice blue high heels, silver wristwatch, white clutch bag

Swimwear: In a fit of stereotypical kitsune mischievousness, bought a cherry red string bikini after she and Raph get together (Raph’s brothers find Raph’s reaction to seeing her in it for the first time absolutely hilarious). Covers it with a green linen tunic dress when going to/from the beach/pool. Wears white flip flops with red straps, and red sunglasses with black lenses. Temporarily switches to stainless steel barbell piercings so her skin won’t turn green and so her silver ones don’t get damaged.

Winter Gear: (Being half Yuki Onna she can withstand the cold better then most, but tries to at least dress in a way that won’t draw too much attention to her in case she needs to use her human disguise) White Parka down jacket with grey faux fur hood lining, red long sleeve shirt with white snowflake pattern, grey polyester winter pants, grey mittens, white winter boots, white ear muffs, black and white horizontal striped scarf

Piercings: Has a silver barbell eyebrow piercing at the edge of each eyebrow, a silver curved barbell nose bridge piercing, and likes wearing non piercing silver cuff earrings since her ears change drastically between her forms.

Make up: Soft rosy pink lipstick, black mascara, black eyeliner in a vintage wing style with a line of white eyeliner along the top, light pink blush

Nails: She has them painted ruby red after she starts dating Raph, originally painted white with ice blue snowflakes

Unique Physiology: While her body temperature isn’t as cold as her mother’s, it’s still a bit cooler then a normal human body temperature. She wears a bracelet that makes it so she feels to others about as warm as the average human both to help her disguise, and because it’s more comfortable for others like Raph (and she does NOT want to risk sending him into brumation. Even if the turtles don’t seem to be quite as susceptible to brumation as their non mutated counterparts, likely due to their human DNA, what with them seeming to be fine in winter weather when they’re bundled up, as shown in ‘Snow Day’).

It also protects her from being a bit more susceptible to heat stroke in hot summer weather (full blooded Yuki Onna like her mother have it even worse, and their ‘heat regulation’ bracelets are vital to them living outside colder climates. Climate change has made things even more hazardous for them.).

Smartphone: Silver phone case with white snowflakes, with a ‘Death Metal’ Aggretsuko (Sanrio character) phone charm *gifts Raph a Pochacco (Sanrio character) phone charm*

Personality: Is generally a nice, cheery person, unless she’s under pressure, in which case she has quite the temper. Is a bit resentful towards her father for spending more time focusing on his career and the charitable projects he runs then spending time with his family (doesn’t understand why her mother is okay with this). VERY protective and loving towards her younger siblings (even if they tend to drive her up a tree with their antics at times). Is neurodivergent (AutismADHD). Suffers from anxiety. Can have a bit of a foul mouth (whatever you’re comfortable with) when ticked off, in a lot of pain, or feeling fiercely competitive. Big history and culture nerd.

Likes: Raph, Non caffeinated sweet baked goods (her favorite being cinnamon rolls),history, wintertime, satin, pure silk, Aromatherapy, Chamomile tea, melodic metalcore music, historical fiction, sociocultural anthropology, environmentalism, learning languages

Thanks to Witch Town being a popular place for Romani witches to immigrate to for centuries (to escape persecution), there is a large population of them there (in fact, it’s a popular place for actual human witches from around the human world to immigrate to, along with the ‘Witch Towns’ of other Yokai cities, so Witch Town in the Hidden City has a sizable human population).

Gabi’s mother, Bianca Sala née Dalca, runs an apothecary/potions shop. Immigrated to Witch Town in the Hidden City in the US after the Romanian Revolution (along with a large bunch of other Romani witch families) with her parents (Bianca’s father, Manfri Dalca, running a broom making business with Bianca’s mother, Kezia Dalca, being a housewife) and younger brother (Doru Dalca, works with his father, married to another Roma witch named Miruna, a bookstore owner, with a six year old son named Fabian, and a three year old daughter named Irina) as a teenager.

Only child due to Bianca having had bad complications during her pregnancy with them. Andrei voluntarily got the old ‘snip snip’ after nearly losing them both. Told his parents that he’s got a younger brother whom both will likely have a family of his own (David does end up getting married, and he and his wife have twin boys), perfectly capable of continuing the family business if Gabi, or whoever Gabi married, didn’t wish to (since Gabi was showing no interest in taking over the restaurant one day).

Familiar: Has a magical familiar hamster (A black coated Syrian Hamster if you were wondering) named Nibbles who likes to ride in a specially made pouch Gabi has attached to their belt. The master/familiar bond allows Gabi to be able to telepathically communicate with Nibbles, and while Nibbles can act independently, usually tends to obey Gabi’s orders. Gabi can also use Nibbles for reconnaissance with their master/familiar bond by being able to see and hear through Nibbles’s senses at will. Smarter then normal hamsters. Favorite snack/treat is sunflower seeds. Has a large cage at Gabi’s home, and also likes to use his hamster ball lot. Being a magical familiar he ages much more slowly then normal hamsters (has a twenty year lifespan instead of a few years, Gabi bonded with Nibbles when Nibbles was just fully grown when Gabi was twelve.).

Mystic Power “Focus”: A tarot card deck, the cards being made of paper from linden trees (In Baltic mythology, the linden tree was sacred to Laima, a goddess of fate. Which makes it a good choice for a wood associated with Divination). The black ink on the cards are made of a mix of Gabi’s own blood, alcohol, gum arabica, Raven feather (given freely) ashes, myrrh, and dragon blood resin (not made of ACTUAL dragon blood, but the resin of a rattan palm tree, called Daemonorops draco). The other color inks on them are from naturally made inks using mystical ingredients. They can be used in combat by Gabi channeling their mystical energy into the cards. Each tarot card has a different mystical effect (some are for attacking or temporarily hindering enemies, some are for healing, and some are for giving Gabi and/or their allies a temporary boost). Each card needs time to ‘recharge’ after being used. Also works as a divination tool. Keeps it in a card deck holder on their belt opposite of Nibbles’s pouch.

Divination ‘focus’: A ‘star globe’ (for design think the ‘Solstice’ star globe from Final Fantasy 14) that is a Sala family heirloom passed down to Gabi. Used in combination with their tarot cards (combining the power of the stars and cosmos with their tarot cards), allows them to be able to have ‘visions’ of the future that are much less vague and more far reaching then using their cards alone. Uses this to help foresee ‘large’ threats (from as small as endangering just New York City/ the Hidden City, to as large as endangering the entire world, both human and yokai). Can only use this method under a clear starlit night sky (in other words they can’t use this in anyplace with too much light pollution,indoors, or underground). Can be folded up to be carried on their back.

Her mother, Aisling Breen, is a neurodivergent Irish Merrow who fled from her former birth family in the waters of Ireland as a teenager to escape her drunken tyrant of a father, and her persistent Merrow suitors, to try to become a marine biologist in the human world. She met her now husband, Brian, in her early twenties and eventually went back with him to the US, establishing a presence in the Hidden City working as a marine biologist in the Mermaid Lagoon. Aisling’s birth form has the stereotypical fin instead of legs that mermaids are known to have, however full blooded Merrow can transform at will to look more human (only their pointy ears and naturally dark green hair a sign of their Merrow heritage) to be able to traverse on land. However Merrow cannot survive in the deep water where they typically dwell to stay hidden from humans (they are born in more shallow water) without their ‘Cohuleen druith’ (Irish for ‘little magic hood’), which are magical salmon skin cowls (despite being described as ‘hats’ by so called ‘eyewitness’ human accounts).

Anne’s older brother, Brian Breen, who is about April’s age, is a half human half Merrow like Anne, but takes more after their Merrow yokai heritage in spirit then she does. Is careful about keeping her half Merrow heritage hidden because her mother warned her and her older brother that there are creeps in both the human and yokai realms who have a ‘fetish’ for mermaids, unlike their father who fell in love with her before ever finding out she was a Merrow, and while surprised when he found out, didn’t think it a big deal in regards to their relationship): Her arm fins are gone and her scales on her legs are replaced with skin. Normal rounded ears and the slight webbing between her fingers are gone. Normal human feet.

Personality: Leans more into her human heritage unlike her older brother. She has an introverted disposition (partly due to a low ‘social battery’) although she does hold an interest in people, especially on a societal scale. While she is something of an idealist, it’s balanced out with a sense of pragmatism, as well as being well aware of just how much injustice and cruelty there is in both the human and yokai realms, especially as a hanyou. Has a loopy sense of humor and an empathetic nature. She is detached yet sensitive and may disconnect from anyone or anything she views as toxic to her emotional well being.

The Bungei (literary) Senryū, by Valeria Simonova-Cecon

“ The senryu are humanity ” - Sugimoto Monta

In the great variety of senryū  of Japan today, we could define the so-called  bungei senryū mainstream . In many spaces of the mass media, columns in newspapers, various pages and blogs dedicated (from  sarariman senryū to jiji senryū , from senryū on toilet paper to those on civil protection) the so-called masukomi senryū (from the English "mass-communication" ), full of humor and satire, but without great pretensions. However, in most official senryū clubs affiliated with the Japanese Senryū Association ( Nissen-kyo ), the authors try to write another type of senryū, more serious, dignified and closer to what we are used to calling "poetry". These are called "literary senryū", or bungei senryū .

Characteristic traits of the senryū bungei

1. Compassion, don't mock

Unlike sarariman or jiji senryū , bungei senryū authors do not criticize or mock others. There is often deep compassion in their verses:

The Japanese, compared to us Westerners, do not greet each other with kisses. Handshakes are also quite rare. Couples are required to be very reserved in public, but even at home there is a tendency to hold back emotions, without manifesting them openly. Thus, a wife accustomed to stifling her feelings, after watching a romantic western film, asks her husband for some tenderness.

2. Poetics of human emotions

The senryu  of contemporary Japanese are also called " poetry of human emotions ." In other words, in the senryū they express, with only 17 syllables, joy, sadness, anger, happiness, etc. There is a particular term - kidoairaku  - which means joy, anger, sadness and cheerfulness (in haiku another term is used that defines the main topics of the genus, namely kachyofugetsu , i.e. flowers, birds, wind and moon):

5. Simplicity, not "jargon"

Unlike haiku, traditionally composed with a more elegant and "literate" lexicon, sometimes enriched with archaic expressions and words that are not reflected in the spoken language (for example, kireji ), bungei senryū they follow the "everyday" language. However, while in sarariman  and senryū jiji it is not uncommon to come across puns and slang expressions, bungei senryū are characterized by a more calm, neutral and noble lexicon:

It was him and she was terrified. The feeling that had flooded her wasn’t her, it had been all the dragon. Anger and fear and the desire to attack, to kill. She hadn’t seen him in years, had known he was out of jail but had been lucky enough not to run into him.

The look on his face when he saw her was nothing short of contempt, and had rekindled all of those old feelings. She was useless. Worthless. No one would ever want her.

Except that someone did.

“K-kiss me,” Ryuko sobbed. She knew she must look insane, climbing in through Fuyumi’s window in tears, but she needed her. Needed to hold her and kiss her and ground herself with something real. Needed to be with one of the first people to truly care about Ryuko, to give a damn about how she was. Needed to be with Fuyumi, who loved Ryuko as much as Ryuko loved her.

“P-please.”

Her voice was barely above a whisper as she slid down the wall, burying her face in her hands to hide her tears. She was twenty six years old, and here she was having a breakdown. Breaking into her girlfriend’s room because she’d seen someone that wasn’t even in her life anymore, that didn’t even matter.

Maybe he was right. Maybe she was worthless.

     ‘I’m sure I’ve heard more complicated things in my time.’     A private room in the casino for a girl who had seemed distraught about something. Fuyuko wasn’t one to usually help anybody except herself. It would appear that even she couldn’t escape a good deed every now and then.     She turned away from the beverage cabinet, a glass of red wine now in hand. ‘Whatever your trouble is, I’m certain I can make heads and tails of it. Can I interest you in anything, something to soothe your nerves? A drink?’
