A portrait of my Trevelyan, Gabe for my oc pages. I made him in DAI but it looks nothing like him at all so I’m just drawing him. I’m also going to draw his friend group from the Ostwick circle, who are integral to his story!

I’m also thinking about redrawing my Bellara piece AGAIN…for some reason I’m struggling with the specific pose I used or maybe I’m thinking about it too hard. So 🤞🏽 I won’t struggle with the 3rd redraw.

Which of your OCs would be most likely to get arrested and why?

Vivian and Gavin Hawke (as the eldest set of Hawke twins, they’re most likely to be partners in crime) because both of them are “throw punches first, think of consequences later” types with short fuses to their tempers and sarcastic mouths with very little filters.

Zoe Dawson has been arrested for arson, namely because she flicked a lit cigarette into her professor’s car through the cracked window, hoping to just singe the upholstery after he sided with her (very recent) ex-boyfriend’s accusations that she plagiarized his journalism essay final paper instead of the other way around without hearing her side or even looking at the evidence she had to clear her name. Instead of an unfortunate cigarette burn, some papers caught fire and a partially opened and spilled bottle of booze under the driver’s seat accelerated the blaze and she wound up torching the car instead.

Gabriel Hawke, most likely because he was an accessory to some crime/trespassing charge his cousin Alex committed and unlike the Trevelyan side of the family, he can’t parkour or sprint for shit and would most likely be the one the cops catch. Alex would make it up to him by posting bail and then buying like a month’s worth of tacos or trips to Gabe’s favorite pancake place.

10. How do you decide what to write?

I was just thinking about this the other day LOL but it all kind of happens in a blur... I usually have an idea and it'll be one particular aspect of a story: either a scene or a dynamic or a certain vibe even (😖) and then I end up writing around it to fully realize it. My best example is that for trust fall, I started with that scene of Shepard and Miranda in her cabin where Shepard is staring up at the skylight, kind of paralyzed there—I had this image in my head that set the dynamic I wanted for them, and then I worked backwards to make it feel true, if that makes sense?

(I actually was writing a Shenko fic when I started writing that scene, and it wasn't feeling right, but I had this realization that it should have been Shepard and Miranda there... then the rest just sort of happened LOL)

24. Are there any easter eggs in [a heart that laughter has made sweet], and if so, what are they?

I guess one easter egg would be that during Ashna + Cullen's wedding in Kirkwall, the Mother ties a thread around their wrists; I was kind of doing a spin on handfasting for this, but some Hindu traditions, including weddings, involve tying cotton thread, and I always thought it was a simple yet nice symbol growing up.

Another would be Ashna's brother having a little crush on Cassandra, haha—my version of the Trevelyan family is way too involved for people who barely show up in my fics! But I like to leave little nods to things from my life when I write, kind of like hiding your signature in a painting, haha.

39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who?

I read "La siesta del martes" by Gabriel García Márquez a long while ago, and I really think it left a mark on me lol... he has these long stories with so much poetic language, but in that particular story, I felt like not a single word was wasted, very economical with language but heavy in symbolism. I think a lot of Spanish-language literature I began to read sort of opened up that avenue, and I really started appreciating that clarity and concision. I also loved poetry for that same reason, because you have to say a lot through few words: some of my favorites were Langston Hughes, Carl Sandburg, Rita Dove... again, very conversational but powerful. I love reading detailed descriptions and character dynamics, but it's that precision that I always remember and have been trying to come back to when I write.

All 7 of the Trevelyan siblings can speak and read Tevene, with varying degrees of proficiency. Their mother is from Tevinter and taught her children from an early age (against her husband’s preference, mind you).

Surprisingly, despite his hatred of magic and the fact that he was taught by tomes at first, Declan has the highest level of proficiency. He can read and speak just as well as any Magister. He even can decipher a little Ancient Tevene as well. Dec is very good with languages in general, and can also speak fluent Orlesian, is decent enough with Antivan, and after being around the Iron Bull for a bit even starts picking up a little Qunlat.

Claire is also very fluid, especially after living several years in Tevinter with her mother’s family. She also speaks some Orlesian but is not as fluent as Declan.

Persephone and Evelyn both struggle with reading Tevene but know a decent amount of the language to understand someone speaking it. They’re as fluent as any native speaker with Orlesian, however, and Persephone knows a little Antivan.

Maxwell and Everett can both read any tome in Tevene, ancient or modern, but are both rubbish at pronunciation. Years in the Circle and the Chantry attempting to keep them from learning Tevene has resulted in their knowledge deteriorating. Everett knows quite a bit of Orlesian but is not very fluent. Max knows a bit of Antivan and enough Orlesian to get by but is not conversational.

Gabriel is a lost cause, and knows exactly two words in Tevene

Maybe you got the wrong impression that Marka Khristyna is friendly with everyone in the Inquisition. In fact, it's not like that, she doesn't even communicate with everyone. Partly it's because for quite some time she thought of herself as just one of many, being among the mages sent by Fiona from Redcliffe to help close the Breach. Partly because some of them she doesn't like and prefer no interaction at all rather than bad one.

The fact that Eranehn, the Inquisitor, considers her as his friend sometimes still surprises Tyna. They didn't talk very much in Haven, Marka didn't spend much time there at all.

But in Skyhold, Josephine had asked Khristyna to help the Inquisitor learn the dances for the Orlais ball, because Eranehn seemed terrified just thinking about having to dance this in front of everyone. Josephine's choice fell on Marka because she is noble, so she knows and is able to do everything that is needed, and most importantly, her character will not allow her to refuse. Yes, it was pure manipulation by Josephine, but who is not without a sin.

So, before the ball, Marka and Eranehn spent many hours together (with Josephine somewhere nearby of course), so it is not surprising that Eranehn, for whom even half an hour of communication is enough to consider you a friend, began to feel her in this way.

Another reason for this on his part - Marka is friendly with Dorian. It happened by chance when Dorian knew that she was Trevelyan and remembered that they were some distant relatives. This mention piqued her interest, she requested a complete family tree from Ostwick, and later found several lines linking her house to the House of Pavus. According to one of them, these two turned out to be cousins some-x removed, so since then they sometimes refer to each other as Brother and Sister. However, according to another line, there was a marriage between the two houses, where the representative of the Trevelyans was one generation older than Pavus. And since then, Dorian jokingly calls Marka "aunty", and she calls him "dear nephew", despite the fact (or rather, because of this), she is about three years younger than him.

It is because of this Marka feels a bit like an aunt to Eranehn as well, it is almost natural, because he is younger than her, and she knows what it is like to be an aunt (because her eldest brother, Joan Matthias, already has two children before the Inquisition), but she does not know, how to be an older sister (because she is the youngest in the family. Even the seventh brother Mikael Gabriel, also adopted at the same time as her, is six months older than Marka Khristyna).

Besides Eranehn, Dorian, and obviously Cullen, Marka is closest to Cassandra. Marka is easy with her, because they share the same faith, and their opinions about the Chantry coincide on many questions. Marka admires Cassandra's confidence, and the way strength, courage, romance and charm are combined in her.

Marks can't say that herself and Vivienne are close friends, but Tyna definitely respects her, as a strong woman, who has love, power and respect; as a mage, who know her limits and what she is capable of; as experienced Knight-Enchanter from whom Marka can learn so much.

About the rest of the inner circle of Unquisistion Marka can't say they're friends. With some of them she can drink in a tavern, or chat, or play (cards or lute or something else) from time to time. With others - nothing but polite greetings.

I’ve been practicing with photoshop on ipad and this is the result. Still not happy with it but I think I’ve come at a point where I just have to let this piece go. I just do not know how to make the changes I want so I’m trying to just be proud of the progress I’ve made :’)

This is my Dragon Age OC Gabriel. In my ‘canon’ worldstate, he’s not Inquisitor but does join the Inquisition to help. He was training to join the Templar Order when his magic manifested. The burn scar on his face he got as a result of the Conclave explosion that opened the Breach.
