I like to think that, ocassionally, Windows Reimu asks Genjii to fly her wherever while she lay on his back. There's no reason to bring Genjii, since she already knows how to fly herself. She just has him fly so she can have the space to vent her frustrations away.

Despite her seeming lack of respect toward him, Reimu does trust Genjii.

False Aria of Rebirth. Character Profiles: Uriel Alephis

Uriel Alephis: As Gabriel's twin brother, Uriel is an intelligent, amicable celestian man.

Having once studied summoning alongside Gabriel, Uriel instead veered off to train the art of alchemy and item transmutation. As such, he is often seen carrying a ton of items at once, and has knowledge of various artifacts and materials.

Despite his sister's condition, Uriel still cares for her and often keeps her in check. Generally, he can also be seen as the voice of reason in Hinako's team.

Uriel is part of Team Hinako as the team's appraiser and "Pack Mule", in Gabriel's words.

False Aria of Rebirth. Character Profiles: Mana "Mint" Aestas

Mana Aestas: As the oldest daughter of the Aestas Clan, Mana - better known as "Mint" by her friends - is an irritable sprite with a tendency to act bossy.

As part of a prestigious clan of spellcasters, Mint was sent to Particus Academy alongside childhood friend Sol to better her knowledge. Although she expected her studies to be a breeze, being put on the same team as Rin Alsparda instead caused Mint's life to be a "living hell," in her own words.

As for her nickname - Mint - nobody knows exactly why she is called that. Sol seemingly knows, but she laughs hysterically whenever she attempts to explain it. Mint, meanwhile, does not want to talk about it.

Mint is begrudgingly part of Team Rin, as the team's designated healer. Allegedly, only because Sol is also part of it. She doesn't seem to fully resent her leader, however...

Today is the blue moon where I'm writing and in this case it's False Aria of Rebirth's Chapter 3. (Which you can read ch1 and 2 of here wink wink)

It took a lot of trial and error (read: rewriting and cutting out scenes I didn't like), but I think I'm finally capable of writing a chapter I'm satisfied with. As per usual, I'm thinking the end result might be around 5k words (Plus its illustration). With my current plans, however, it might end up being even longer than that.

While I'm working on Chapter 3, I'm also planning on redoing character profiles for FAoR's cast here, complete with a portrait for them.

I currently have 3 out of the 13 drawings done, but the important part is that this site allows me to write lengthier profiles. This overall means there will be better, more updated info for my CoH1 cast, and I'll hopefully be able to put FAoR back in the spotlight.

Because I've been neglecting it for far too long now.

On the topic of Sol, she once had a more strict, levelheaded personality when I first created her.

While her being the smartest on Team Rin remains, she was otherwise a reserved bookworm who was often at odds with Rin's reckless ideas.

There even was a scene involving Sol throwing a bookmark at Rin (ironically to get the latter out of daydreaming), then realizing she forgot which page she was last at.

As you can probably guess, this resulted in a character similar not just to Hinako, but her own friend Mint as well. And so, I scrapped that in favor of making Sol a foil to Mint - a cheerful, if airheaded elf who contrasted the fairy's no-nonsense attitude.

Mint and Sol are a duo I really enjoyed making, and I hope you enjoy reading their interactions later on. I have plans for them, I'll just say...

False Aria of Rebirth. Character Profiles: Melinda Amare

(Read FAoR here)

Melinda Amare: A strayed student of Mashlenia Institute, and the sole survivor of her team. Melinda is a gifted elf who was quickly rescued from Holdeah Cave, carrying with her a set of papers dating from centuries ago.

After the death of her close friends, Melinda set out with Hinako's team in order to unseal the many seals written within her papers. Though forceful with her goals, Melinda is a soft, if introverted girl.

Prior to her predicament, Melinda was once amongst Mashlenia's top students as a prodigious mage. Despite the university's competitive environment, she remained as meek as ever - something her teammates found amusing.

At the moment, Melinda is part of Team Hinako.

False Aria of Rebirth. Character Profiles: Typhon Echidos

Typhon Echidos: Coming from a poor family, Typhon is a stoic, yet confident male drake.

After saving enough money to take up a sword, Typhon enrolled in Particus Academy in order to gain funds for his younger siblings. As a result, he can be seen motivating other people and even helping them with their swordplay. As long as they can pick up the slack themselves, that is.

Despite his calm demeanor, Vala's antics and overbearing personality tend to frustrate him. However, he is never truly mad with her. Perhaps he sees his siblings in her...?

Typhon is part of Team Rin, as the team's second warrior. Although, compared to Vala, he is much calmer and rational during combat - prioritizing defending his team.

Gabriel Alephis: As one of two twins, Gabriel is a soft spoken, yet cold celestian woman.

At an early age, Gabriel learned the art of summoning alongside her twin brother, Uriel. Out of the two, however, she is the more talented twin.

Antisocial since birth, Gabriel lacks any sort of empathy - not even toward her brother - and often can be insensitive toward her teammates. She is also selfish by nature, often preferring her own gratification over the well-being of her teammates.

Gabriel is part of Team Hinako, for seemingly no purpose other than "because it's fun."

False Aria of Rebirth. Character Profiles: Sol Leo

Sol Leo: As the daughter of writers, Sol is a cheery elf girl with a talent for spellcasting.

Fascinated by the many books she's read - from adventure to dramas - Sol learned about spellcasting at an early age. She likewise became interested in the history of magic and its evolution through time, netting Sol with the skill to read more ancient texts.

She entered Particus Academy alongside Mint, a sprite girl and her best friend since childhood.

Sol is friendly and tends to get along with people easily. However, she can be seen as airheaded at times. She lacks an understanding of social norms - speaking loudly or daydreaming even during an exploration.

Sol is part of Team Rin, as the main magic caster and "storyteller", which is to say she enjoys writing stories based on her expeditions and sharing them around.

On the topic of Mirak, if there's anybody that heavily altered the plot it's her.

It's a similar case to Mint in that I cannot explain much without spoiling, but in a more extreme manner.

What I can say, though, is that Mirak's gained a ton of importance as I began planning further with FAoR's story. Without her, the plot would go on a totally different direction.

Besides that, though — I just like the "emotionless" trope because of how you can play around with it.

In Mirak's case, her factual way of thinking often results in insulting or otherwise snarky-sounding comments.

Whether she's doing it intentionally or not, only she knows...

On the topic of Melinda... this is going to be a long one (lol).

Melinda is what I'd call an experiment of mine, being the first actual OC I've made. As a result, she is also the one who kickstarted FAoR as a whole.

I had been tinkering with the idea of creating a character from scratch before, but I couldn't really think of anything that could fit.

But then I thought for a while, and realized I didn't necessarily have to think about CoH's plot for a character. Rather, I had to look at its gameplay.

Permadeath is a common mechanic in Wizardry-like titles. CoH is no exception to this — as dark as it is compared to the rest of the game.

With that in mind, I thought it'd be interested in a character revolved around said mechanic — the sole survivor of an expedition gone wrong. And as soon as I created Melinda, I created FAoR.

Character-wise, I wanted not so much stray away from the usual tropes tied to sole survivors (read: brooding, antagonistic toward others), but more so playing around them.

Melinda is generally calm — if aloof — and willing to help and be helped by others. Even so, one can tell something is off about the way she acts.

There's a lot more I could say, but for now I'll let FAoR itself do the talking. Hopefully, she becomes a character to people's liking...

False Aria of Rebirth. Character Profiles: Mirak

Mirak: As an erdgeist, not much is known about Mirak other than she lacks traits most of her race would have. Though her body remains inorganic, her skin and hair feature a soft texture not too dissimilar from humans. Also, Mirak is prone to becoming distracted.

Having seemingly no emotions nor goals, Mirak joined Particus Academy to observe its students and the environment. While not observing, Mirak tends to walk to random places on her own as well.

Mirak is overly logical and sometimes interprets things literally, or comes off as snide. As a result, Mirak tends to get into one-sided fights with Tiamat - whom the latter gets easily frustrated with.

Mirak is part of Team Hinako as the team's healer. Despite all, the appearance of Melinda seemed to have sparked something within the erdgeist...

On the topic of Gabriel, she was a character whom I had the same goal the whole time — make her the absolute opposite of an angel.

Though she always had a dark side to her, back then she was more of a prankster than anything else — utilizing her skills for her own amusement and all the while keeping a formal act.

But as I started writing her more, I realized she came off more as apathetic. And that's when it hit me that maybe I should just lean more toward that.

Gabriel is soft-spoken and formal, but only because that's the most she understands about social interactions. Beyond that, she lacks any sort of attachment to her teammates, and can be prone to saying insensitive or cruel things at times.

And I think that alone makes her one of my favorite characters to write...
