The Jure Sweater

or: I get by with a little help from [redacted]

The True Jure Sweater, a.k.a the one seen at Helsinki 2 is done. I keep thinking it has been, like, a month, and then I check the date for the earliest pic I have, and I realize this took... 1½ weeks, 2 if you include the time it took to figure out construction and squinting at bad pixels and then much better pixels.

So how does one make a Jure sweater?

1. Be absolutely incapable of not wanting to make any given sweater you want.

2. Attend Hki 2. Fall in love with Jure's sweater on fucking sight.

3. Squint at pixels. Despair a little because none of them have the resolution to support zooming in for finer details.

4. Explain my woes to @frikatilhi

Karlos looking for lo-... wait, Karlos Jheronimus for Larissa's looking for love.

When looking at Karlos, no one would think that to this day his friends still affectionately refer to him as 'Karlos the dwarf'. It is a title he is proud of because of his father. For the longest time Karlos was the size of a dwarf because he was born from the uncommon love between his human mother and dwarf father. Karlos' father is not really welcome in his clan anymore because of the relationship his parents have. But, his dad always says that he doesn't care because he would go to the end of the world for his wife. The loyalty Karlos' father has for his mother is something Karlos aspires to have as wel. During his childhood, Karlos mainly grew up surrounded by individuals that were way taller than him which resulted in him having a feeling that he didn't like being the only one looked down on. Literally. The fact that he got a massive growth spurt many, many years after his peers had theirs can possibly be contributed to the fact that Karlos' genes had different plans than the expected norm, or to the fact that his mother enjoys experimenting with magical spells and elixirs and taught Karlos a thing or two. Karlos ended up with his mother's human length and father's physique. The only downside to that is that his brain doesn't always seem to comprehend this, which makes Karlos very clumsy. One time while collecting gems as a result of Karlos being a little bit materialistic, he was startled by a group of trolls and fell in a bottomless well. To this day, he has no idea how, or with the help of who or what he got out of there. Ever since the incident happened, he refuses to set foot near a water well, wishing well, holes in the ground, or even a puddle he can't see the bottom of. For Karlos, who is in his young adult years, the feeling of finding love similar to the love his parents have for each other is growing ever stronger. He thinks Larissa's bachelorette challenge might be the perfect place to find it.

Please don't expect Filipino music to be like western pop or east Asian pop, that happens to be in a different language. While some artists and their songs do have that "international" flavour, Philippine music in general has a different vibe. Yes, even when the song is in English. Don't expect multi-million dollar production budgets. OPM is characterized first and foremost by hugot (that feeling of tugging on your heartstrings), not flashiness. Also important are vocal ability and creative wordplay. Most of our singers write their own songs.

I also suggest digging past the mainstream pop idols, who tend to recycle old hits and cover other songs. There are a lot of indie gems in OPM, the ones who are really producing music with spirit and strength and good messages. Social media has allowed these artists to reach a mass audience, so they're not difficult to find. We're in a great era in OPM, where more and more songs in other regional languages are being written and produced. There are pop songs now in Kapampangan, Bikol, Tausug, etc.

Also, while many of the musicians on this list are people I genuinely enjoy listening to and support, there are some I've included to show the wide breadth of music in the country, but whom I do not particularly endorse. Like many people in the entertainment industry, some individuals/bands featured here are embroiled in controversy, and I don't necessarily condone their actions.

I decided to share a bit of backstory on Basil, and that includes his girlfriend, Gem!

I won't say that Basil had a particularly bad relationship with his father, but his dad projected a lot of pressure onto Basil to be perfect and never let anyone see the "monster" that truly dwells inside oneself. Because of this, Basil always showed off the best parts of himself, never really letting himself express any negative emotions that he felt. This also meant that he never formed any genuine connections with his piers, despite being a total socialite and growing up popular in school.

This perfectionism affected Basil on a deep level, as they believed that nobody would love them if they were to be honest about their feelings. On a bit of a side note, Basil was bitten by a neighbor's dog when he was younger, hence the scars near his left eye. He's deeply insecure about them and tries to keep them covered up.

Basil's father was also a film actor, and Basil wanted to follow in his footsteps. Along with this, Basil always took theatre classes in school, never landing leading roles, but consistently receiving supporting ones. This continued on as Basil grew up, moving from primary education classes to Gotham's university and community theatre. This also happens to be where they met Gem, who was a theatre tech, mostly working on makeup, and helping with costuming.

Gem is the closest person that Basil has been to ever, especially because of her laidback but bubbly nature, making it easier to spend time with her and transition to dating. Still, Basil's fear of his self image means that he's not as open with Gem as she'd like. She won't pressure him, but it bothers her to know that Basil is lying her to face whenever she asks if he's okay. The best she can do is continue to try and break down the barrier that he put up to protect himself,

Basil also gets so absorbed into the roles that he plays, it can be easy to forget that Basil has a personality outside of who he's playing. Of course they're their own person but, nobody really knows who "that" is.

good morning! i decided i shall make a brief surface-level case analysis of you guessedt it right -- quarloe! <33 so here's the thing, right. we shouldn't get all over the place. so let's start with his family background, of what we know- of course. Quarloe lives in a household wherein a functional family is evidently present. Scenarios that prove this are: 1) healthy family bond - he hangs out with his mom dad like they watch TV and stuff togETHER! CAN YOU BELIEVE SUCH THINGS EXISSSTT LMFAO. Also he reports that he is both close to his mom and dad. and even tho they are old, i think failry enough they still make time for karlo their youngest childt. I only experienced that when I was like 7 we were watching natgeo documentaries but now his parents are like 60+ yrs old, still together, making dough SO SO MUCH DOUGH, spending enough time with their children. ALL THAT he has all that. so that's honestly good. for him it will really solidify his character over all i think and it will really be a good foundation for him in the familial light. Plus, it makes him a potentially LESSER PROBLAMATIC PERSON unlike ng isa jan lol jk love u self! anw ayon nga so diba ayon don na tayo sa healthy family nya. Kasi they have all their needs, and he has all the resources he could use. From physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, and self actualization he has all of those readily and easily available for him. Man it must be so masarap sa feeling uuwi ka and you have all that. You dont have much to worry about <333 Good for him. Which leads to my second point 2) an individually healthy lifestyle. since he has all the lower tiers of maslow's hierarchy of needs, he can then proceed to <3 self-actualization <3 wHICH EVIDENTLY IS BEING DONE BY MY Babe go babe galeng. motherfucker has a bike worth 130k ewan ko nalang kung di ka sipagin mag cycle. anw ayon namaterialize nya naman mga resources nya which is nice. and I can see he takes care of his prized-possessions well. most of the time he is cleaning his bike OR his cleats. damn shawty. Plus im seeing self love and self care on this. Halfway into Winter

Jessica and Brandon are hoping for a Snow day but so far there hasn’t been one. Jessica met a new Friend, Karlo. Brandon just started school this week and hasn’t really met one yet. While Jessica and Karlo got to know each other better, they even played in the snow almost everyday and did their Homework together. Brandon was making/researching more Potions and took the dog out for walks. Cohen changed his Political career into something he more wanted, the music career, he now needs to learn Guitar and he will be fine, it also pays better. Annie Sold off her last harvestables and was looking for small jobs because she can’t really do much in Winter anymore. So she looked into investments and bought some some parts of stores in the town (Partnership) and with the leftover money she bought a Diner. (Money is from Tiberium Gems, the 500§ Dust grows into 40.000§ cuts.)

They also got robbed, again. But this time they had an Alarm so nothing was stolen.

Winter is two weeks long and the Winter-Festival is next week on Friday and so this weekend they are going on a Trip to France again. (Time doesn’t run here so they will come back on Saturday even though they are gone 6 days.)

The reason of my smile : Kunal Karan Kapoor

Truth be told, I don’t know how to write anything except petty fiction, but the urge that I need to pen down my thoughts has been pecking at my brain, nagging me for a while now, so here I am. And all this is about someone who is much more than just a TV celebrity to me, someone who brings a huge grin to my face everytime I think of him, inspiring me in many real life situations. No guesses, he is none other than the dashing and the most amazing actor I have ever come across, Kunal Karan Kapoor.

Honestly, I had seen Kunal on screen long ago, but never noticed him. I do not really remember the days of Maayka as I was too young but the flashes of me being disgusted by Angad in Pratigya is still fresh in my mind. Such was his portrayal of the character Angad! He made me hate the character to the core, but now when I watch the same scenes on YouTube, I actually smile and blush. I mean, I smile at a local goon teasing a girl. Seriously? I laugh at myself for doing so, but then I realize the reason behind it, is, of course, the magic of Kunal Karan Kapoor

I went back and watched a few scenes of Yudi in LRL and believe me, he’s beyond cute. It was especially super-duper fun to watch him as Madonna. Can’t explain in words! Take a bow, Kunal for portraying Madonna so amazingly and for sure, playing the role of a glam doll was not easy but he did it with ease. The suicide attempt scene of Yudi gave me the shudders – goosebumps, brought a wave of sadness that remained with me for long. And then came Pratha and Amreek… The MOST adorable character EVER! Kunal and his Punjabi accent made me smile so much in awe that it hurt my cheeks. Trust me, I can sit all day, hear him speaking Punjabi and keep grinning. No doubt as Amreek, Kunal created wonders as always.

So when did I start noticing him and falling for him is something I ask myself. It was during Na Bole Tum. It just happened. I only know that I began to admire Mohan during Prateek track, which continued increasing until the end of Rashmi track when I finally realized that I have fallen head over heels in love with this television character.

TThe lone tear from Mohan’s eye after he joked about his confession during Rashmi’s engagement shattered me so much so that realization dawned and I knew that I just so cannot see tears in the eyes of this guy. I clearly remember the episode after this when Mohan sitting by the window said,

“Waah Mohan Bhatnagar! Mazak mazak mein jo serious tha, woh bhi mazaak banke rehe gaya. Khud hi apne dil ke sachchai pe hasna padha tujhe”.

Sigh! That’s all I did when I heard him saying the lines. I then saw his eyes. So pale and somewhere moist. My heart turned heavy, overwhelmed with emotions, of pain and hurt, and at last when he mockingly chuckled at his fate, trust me, something inside me… died!

There are MANY beautiful moments in the show that made me love the actor’s natural performance. The off-screen segments, the interviews and the impact it had on me nailed down the fact that there is no other actor on TV that I have ever adored the way I do Kunal Karan Kapoor. It all started with his down-to-earth nature, smiles and laughter, way of talking, genuineness in every segment, obsession with his hair, moody nature, passion for traveling, attitude of putting heart and soul ito his performances… the list simply goes on. I do not know whether I even make sense or not, but in a nutshell, I would say that… I love Kunal Karan Kapoor as a human being and an actor.

As days went by, my love for him kept growing. I started admiring and respecting him for the way he is. He inspires me truly. I remember the first time I got a job, I was irritated because I was too lazy to handle my school and work together. But then I thought… Doesn’t Kunal work for all days and even until midnights? So why can’t I? I should be motivated by my favourite actor and at last, I was. In fact I still am. Currently I am doing my second job and believe me, whenever I feel tired of handling it, I just need to remember Kunal’s struggle to reach where he is today. Nothing is easy, but he overcame every hurdle in life to establish himself in the midst of the crowd, and so I decided that I should take inspiration from him and do the same. But to be honest, most often I do feel that I won’t be able to do it anymore, but the next moment, Kunal comes in my mind and off I go!

I don’t know what else to write. Coming back to the show, another power-packed performance was from the episode when Megha tries to commit suicide, thinking that she was a burden on Mohan and Mohan gets angry…

“Ek kaam karo na.. Nanhi ko maardo, Addu ka galaa ghotdo, main phir se truck ke saamne khadha ho jaata hoon. Phir jo karna hai karlo….”

I was speechless and had goosebumps. My eyes went teary and my heart seemed to be ripped apart really badly. All the emotions together. Trust me; I never felt that way ever while watching any character portrayals on screen. Another heart-wrenching yet super amazing performance by Kunal was just before Mohan left home post Addu went missing. He did not have any dialogues, but his eyes and the tears in it said everything. Especially the moment left me in awe when he held the photo frame of Nanhi and Addu close to his heart and looking helplessly at Megha, trying to make her believe in him and his love for his kids. Throughout the scene I wished I could just get into the screen and hold him tight, making him believe in himself and support him while he is vulnerable. Sigh!

One more scene of Mohan that stands apart in season 2 is his imagination of Younger Nanhi at Awaaz India corridor after he finds out that Navika is his Chawanni. To be honest, the entire episode right from him protecting his daughter from Daddaji to his provoking her to speak up against him just to be sure that she was his Chawanni was bang on. He did not have so much of dialogues in the latter scene, but his teary eyes spoke so much… Sigh! To express happiness of meeting his daughter after 12 years and on the same time, the pain to see hatred for himself in her eyes is NOT easy at all, but he did it flawlessly as always. Followed by, the corridor scene ended up making me cry. Mohan helplessly tries to make Nanhi believe in himself but he fails, so he just looks on painfully. No dialogues yet again his eyes did the magic and at the end, when he burst out into tears, trust me, I broke down too.

Another scene of Mohan that stands apart is his conversation with Beera after he asks Navika to consider him dead. In a drunken state, he said that he hates his name and existence. My eyes immediately turned moist and all I wanted to do is to get inside my computer screen and hug him tight. I so wanted to tell him that he’s not wrong, instead the ones he loved did not deserve a gem like him, which shows how Mohan Bhatnagar had become a certain individual for me by then, someone I love and cared for. And this is certainly not easy. Making the viewers relate to the character is only possible when the actor works hard. Kunal did much more than just working hard. He breathed the character and put all his heart and soul in it and thus making it relatable and surely an important individual in my life. Mohan was never perfect but Kunal made me love his imperfection

. I fell in love with Mohan’s nature and emotions because perhaps somewhere I started seeing myself in him in some cases. I love and respect his attitude of loving his family with passion and devotion, so much that it eventually destroyed him but he never ever complained about it. So much feelings for just one TV character – not an easy task for an actor to make his viewers do so, but Kunal did it with ease, perfection and flawlessness. Even as Mohan, when he flinches, looks on, says nothing at all, thinks about something or just smiles for any reason – I can feel everything. In his every single scene, he blew me away to a different world of Mohan Bhatnagar which was full of happiness, laughter and pain.

Days went by, and my admiration knew no bounds. Everything was good until I found out that Mohan was going to “die”. On one side, I was depressed so much that I was quiet the entire day, but on the other side, I was super excited to see how Kunal would perform in this scene. And as always he didn’t disappoint me. Forget about disappointing, he did much more than what I thought. I still remember the moment when I watched Mohan falling off the cliff. I just could not cry as I always would, watching any emotional scene, but honestly I felt as if one of my closest persons left me for the time being, of course because I had a firm belief as well that he’s not gone. But even after knowing that he will come back and not would not be a different person but Mohan only, I was still depressed and feeling low.

Then Vasu entered the show – a personality completely contrasting from Mohan Bhatnagar. His attitude and intensity are the two things that made me love him. Kunal made sure to make both characters completely different in every way, and he did it too as always because the mannerisms of both the characters were poles apart. On one hand, Mohan was a soft and caring person. On other hand, Vasu was cruel and intense with a mysterious aura around him. Kunal did both the roles with perfection. Period.

Finally came the day when I heard the show would end. I did not react, perhaps because I was too busy with my family commitments, but when the D-day arrived, I had no words at all. I was numb because I knew that I won’t be able to watch Kunal on screen for a very long time.

That’s my journey as a Kunal fan, experiencing his magic and continuing to love him more and more. Yet wondering if I have said everything. Honestly there is much more about him that I feel which I cannot express, but for sure that he’s the first TV actor I felt for, like this. I remember the morning of 4th May 2013 when I was checking live updates of ITA in a half-sleepy state. Since I live on the other side of the world, it was morning, I could not wake up but I could not afford to miss the live updates either. I was so desperately waiting to know who the best actor winner was and when I heard that it was Anas Rashid, I was upset, but then I realized that I never expected anything good from any award shows. Suddenly I saw a picture of Kunal holding the ITA trophy in his hands. I was shell shocked. My half-sleepiness flew out of the window. I jumped and literally started bouncing on bed, shivered in sheer joy, pride and happiness. I don’t know what else to say to express my feelings, would just say that I felt as if I was the winner and won something great myself.

Now when he is not there, I would just say that I miss him loads. Just a glimpse of him makes me happy these days, and it was simply proven today when I was feeling low as there was no updates of him in the event and ended up getting mad at everything, but when I saw his picture, my heart calmed down and I felt happy again. In the midst of all, I even tried distracting myself, watching and getting into something else but all my attempts failed miserably and ultimately I came back to where I belong… the task of loving, admiring, respecting and missing Kunal Karan Kapoor. I would not lie if I say that the other reason of my smile and happiness besides my mother and few close friends is HIM. Even when I am depressed and feeling very low, he cheers me up and brings me back into the world of happiness in some way or the other. Just a thought of him and hearing his name would make my lips curve immediately. Everything reminds me of him, e.g. the books on the shelves at my workplace. I definitely sound crazy I know but all of this is true. Kunal Karan Kapoor has become one among the most important people in my life. And..I dream to meet him, hopefully someday; Hope afloat even after a decade.

On the day of party  (Happy 2nd Anniversary of NBTNMKK )

"what's up Saumya, put that lazy bum of your's to work " Bidz shouted."I thought Bidz had given up in organising", Saumya said flabbergasted."She can never give that up. Instead I have given up on her", Amanat sadly told Saumya who laughed it off. The first to enter the Party hall was KKK who was elated to see the preparations. With everyone around drooling over him , he silently took a seat in the corner where Amanat, Sonali, Bidushy, Lakshmi & Poo clustered around him. Saumya was receiving a courier which read " for kkk" Sonali was peeking in and asked... "kkk ki kiran? " Saumya started laughing and said " No Dumbo, Kunal Karan Kapoor"  Sonali :"Oh yeah! My bad " It turned out that the production house had arranged another party and everyone was there. Amanat was disappointed because all her hard work would go in waste so she stayed back and rest of them left. Everyone was confused as to how they would go when KKK came in with his car and everyone jumped in it. As soon as the engine roared , Bidz said "why would you buy a car, you like bikes , you said that in an interview" Poo objected, " No, he never said so " and just when this was going to turn into a catfight, KKK interrupted, " yes I like bike more but does that mean I can not have a car... stop it you guys. I loev you both" Well that was enough for them to get lost in their dreams. Amanat was sitting at the steps in tears and thinking how her friends went with KKK to production's party when two tiny little hands closed her eyes and two caring hands took her inside the hall. Who took her inside the party hall where everyone was enjoying the party and Amanat was amazed. She had tear in her eyes, happy tears this time that her friends persuaded the PH to shift the party to this hall. She looked at Ashnoor, Jayshree and Akansha who had brought her inside the hall.Ashnoor said , "apne itne efforts kiye the, hume toh ana hi tha." Aakanksha intervened, " ha dadi amma bilkul sahi keh rahi hai " KKK added, "aur na wo party bahut fiki bhi thi tum jo nahi thi" flirtingly. Amanat blushed . Others (Siddharth, Asya, Manish, Reem, etc) pushed all of them on the floor where everyone was dancing. And that night everyone rejoiced and danced their asses off.

Legendary Subimal ‘Chuni’ Goswami – the ‘gem’ of Indian Football who was also a cricketer of considerable merit

Indian Football legend Chuni Goswami passed away in Kolkata at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness. He was admitted to a private hospital where he breathed his last. Apart from Football, Goswami, had also represented Bengal in first-class cricket tournaments.

Chuni Goswami- The Leader

Subimal ‘Chuni’ Goswami died a little over one month after his former India teammate PK Banerjee breathed his last. Chuni, PK and Balaram- the famous ‘forward’ trio- brought the most famous victory of Indian Football when they scored 9 of India’s 11 goals on way to the Asian Games gold medal in Jakarta in 1962.

The trio won 12 of the 16 games they played together for India. They together scored 20 of India’s 36 goals in that period. Chuni Goswami scored 7 of those goals.

Goswami made his international debut for India in 1956 during the team's 1-0 victory over the Chinese Olympic team.He played 50 international matches for India including the Olympics, Asian Games, Asia Cup and Merdeka Cup. Apart from leading the India team that won gold in the 1962 Asian Games, he also captained the side during their silver-winning performance in the 1964 Asia Cup in Tel Aviv and in the Merdeka Cup.

Chuni Goswami- The Mariner who never opted for another club

Born on January 15, 1938, in Kishoreganj District of undivided Bengal (now in Bangladesh), Goswami joined the Mohun Bagan Junior Team in 1946 at the age of 8 years when he was spotted by Balaidas Chatterjee. He was groomed thoroughly through youth football and then graduated to the senior team in 1954 at the age of 16.

Chuni Goswami played for Mohun Bagan throughout his sporting career. He captained the club in 5 seasons from 1960 to 1964. Goswami holds the distinction of leading his side Mohun Bagan to three successive Durand Cup triumphs and four successive Kolkata League wins. By 1968, he had won every major domestic trophy with Mohun Bagan, including the Rovers Cup and IFA Shield.

A popular anecdote runs that once East Bengal’s general secretary Jyotish Guha offered to buy him the new Fiat car which had come in the market in the 1960s. However, Goswami refused and stayed with his first love Mohun Bagan. It is well-known that “Chuni-(Sailen)Manna do not take money to play for Mohun Bagan. It was a matter of pride for us.”

Chuni Goswami- The Glamorous Forward

Chuni Goswami belonged to a class of his own. With serpentine dribbling skills and slick ball control, Goswami was a charming forward. Ex-international player and renowned coach Subhash Bhowmick once said that Goswami could dribble as well as Ronaldinho or Robinho or any of the great Brazilians.

Goswami’s delectable body swerves deceived the defenders. His ability to find space in small areas made him a delightful watch. During his early years in Indian team, Goswami had to balance the demands of his job and the national team. The otherwise tough coach S.A. Rahim had a soft corner for Goswami. So when some members of the team objected to his late coming to practices, he retorted, “Uska maafik ball control karlo, tum bhi fir late aana”.

After India won gold under his captaincy at the Jakarta Asiad, Tottenham Hotspur got in touch with him and invited him for a trial. “In the end, though, I did not travel to England for the trial. There was too much of an uncertainty in choosing a career abroad. I was captain of Mohun Bagan, had a good job. My family was also tolerably well-off. The supporters here loved me. Dhiren-da told me: ‘What will you do there, staying all alone?’ So I did not go,” Chuni Goswami said.

Chuni Goswami- The Formidable Cricketer

Chuni Goswami bid adieu to international football in 1964. He was only 27 then. But his sporting career was not over. Goswami concentrated on Cricket after his retirement from Football. He represented Bengal in 46 matches between 1962 and 1973 and scored 1,592 runs as also takingand took 47 wickets.

A gentle medium in-swing bowler, he was one of the two bowlers, who plotted the historic innings defeat of Gary Sobers’ West Indies by the combined Central and East Zone team under Hanumant Singh in Indore. He remembered, “Though Sobers wasn’t playing, it was a strong line-up featuring Rohan Kanhai, Conrad Hunt and Basil Butcher. I took five wickets in an innings including that of Kanhai, and eight in the match. I also scored some runs against the likes of Wes Hall and Charlie Griffith. We won by an innings and 10 runs. I also took two outstanding catches. The one I took running from mid-on to deep square leg has been mentioned by Sobers in his book.” [The Telegraph, 29/07/2012]

Representing Bengal, he fearlessly scored 40+ facing Roy Gilchrist who played for Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy. While describing him as a cricketer, Goswami said, “I am that bits-and-pieces cricketer. I couldn’t bat like Sachin Tendulkar or bowl like Kapil Dev. At best, I could field like Eknath Solkar. But I made the most of my limited strengths. That’s how I became an automatic choice for Bengal and the combined zone.”

Chuni Goswami- A die-hard sportsman

Goswami was also a decent hockey player who played a match for the Mohun Bagan hockey team. After retiring from Cricket, he played Lawn Tennis at Kolkata's famed South Club. For his sporting achievements, Chuni Goswami won the Arjuna Award in 1963 and the Padma Shri award in 1983. In 2005, Mohun Bagan coronated him as Mohun Bagan Ratna- the highest honour in the club.

The skilful genius was suffering from underlying ailments, including sugar, prostrate and nerve problems. He died  on 30th April, 2020 after having a cardiac arrest.

MANILA – Amid public concerns over a possible outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the Philippines, President Rodrigo R. Duterte encouraged his fellow Filipinos to travel with him around the country.

Duterte made the call as he guaranteed that it remains “safe” to take a tour of beautiful places in the country.

“To my fellow Filipinos, I encourage you to travel with me around the Philippines. I assure you that everything is safe in our country, be it an issue of health, be it an issue of law and order, and be it an issue of accessibility,” he said in a video message shared by Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) on Friday.

Covid-19 has stoked fears worldwide, after the coronavirus, which originated in Wuhan, China, has quickly spread to more than 20 countries.

The deadly virus has so far claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people and afflicted nearly 60,000 others.

In the Philippines, there have been three confirmed cases involving three Chinese nationals from Wuhan, China. One died while the other two had been discharged from the hospital after recovering from Covid-19.

Despite the threat of the disease, Duterte said Filipino travelers need not worry since airlines, hotels, and resorts have agreed to reduce their rates for the coming months.

“They have agreed to lower the rates so that we can be a viable market for the Philippines. Come with me and be my travel companion. I’ll be traveling around the Philippines. Let’s travel around the country. Let’s first visit the places here. Long live, Filipinos! Long live, Philippine tourism!” he said in a mixture of English and Filipino.

Explore ‘hidden’ gems

In a Laging Handa press briefing, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said Filipinos may opt to visit the country’s “hidden gems”.

“We invite everyone to explore the ‘hidden gems’ in the Philippines and to discover places you’ve never been to in our country’s 7,641 islands," Nograles said.

He issued the statement as he cited the transportation department’s estimate that the government would lose about PHP42.9 billion in revenues from January to April due to the threat posed by Covid-19.

Nograles, nevertheless, ensured that the government is ready to cushion the new coronavirus’ impact on the Philippine economy through domestic tourism.

“If, however, our partners in the tourism sector and other sectors continue to be adversely affected, there are available government lending programs offered by (Land Bank of the Philippines) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP),” he said.

Nograles noted that Land Bank offers the Calamity Rehabilitation Support or CARES program, which includes rehabilitation through loan restructuring and providing loans to small and medium-sized enterprises.

“The basic terms are a 6 percent fixed rate for the first two years or first five years for long-term loans, subject to annual repricing thereafter. Allow me to stress that LandBank is open to lowering the rate if warranted,” he said.

On the other hand, the DBP has the RESPONSE Program, a rehabilitation financing program that is used for disease infestations that result in significant socio-economic damages, Nograles said.

“The program provides for more relaxed terms; a reduced equity requirement of up to 5 percent of project cost and a reduced margin to 1 percent,” he said.

Still ‘on top of situation’

As of Friday, there were 191 persons under investigation (PUIs) for Covid-19 who have been admitted to various health facilities, while 260 PUIs have already been discharged, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III told reporters in the press conference.

Duque added that about 252 PUIs have tested negative for the coronavirus, while some 186 PUIs have pending test results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.

He, however, assured that the government, through the Department of Health, is on top of the situation to ensure that there would be no local transmission of Covid-19 in the country.

“I wish to reiterate that we do not have any confirmed case of the Covid-19 in the country, as of the moment. I need to mention this time and again. It’s perhaps not the question of ‘if’ but rather a question of ‘when’. So that’s why we cannot afford to let our guard down, despite the fact that we still don’t have local transmission,” Duque said.
