Hmmm I used to draw the Commander without his helmet with solid platinum blonde hair, like Brea

But come to think of it Gelfling with just one color like her are rare, they usually have colored touches. Just look at Jen (blue and silvery strands), Kira (green highlights), Deet (green highlights), Seladon (half of it is lavender), Tavra (pink and lavender highlights), Rian (green strands), Ordon (green strands), Gurjin (rainbow hair) and Laesid (multi colors too), for instance to just mention those he is related to in the rewriting

And it turns out Brea isn't even fully platinum blonde like I thought, she actually has lavender in the back too !

So should I let him platinum blonde and nothing more pretexting all these multiple genes cancelled each other out so he has one color, or have him have some colored strands or highights like the others ?

Today in Rock and Roll History - November 3, 1962

A song called "He's A Rebel" topped the Billboard Hot 100, credited to The Crystals. In reality, the song was recorded by a trio known as The Blossoms, featuring lead singer Darlene Love. Phil Spector had hastily put the song together while The Crystals were out of town and put their name on the label because they had already had two top twenty hits with "There's No Other" and "Uptown".

Gene Pitney wrote "He's a Rebel" for The Shirelles, but they declined. Spector learned Vikki Carr was to record it for Liberty Records as her debut, and wanted his own version on sale first. The Crystals were touring on the east coast of the US at the time, so Spector had The Blossoms, a Los Angeles group, record the track with the agreement that the record would still be credited to the Crystals. Mary Thomas of the Crystals recalled that "our mouths fell open" when she and her groupmates heard a disc jockey announce "the new Crystals song." The quintet was then obliged to add "He's a Rebel" to their live repertoire, even though lead singer Barbara Alston could not mimic Blossoms lead singer Darlene Love. For that reason, 15-year-old Dolores "LaLa" Brooks became the lead singer the following year with the follow-up "Then He Kissed Me".

"He's a Rebel" was released in late August 1962, with the B-side "I Love You Eddie." On November 3, "He's a Rebel" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The number two song was Pitney's "Only Love Can Break a Heart", giving him (as a songwriter or performer) the two top-selling singles in the U.S. In the United Kingdom, "He's a Rebel" peaked at No. 19.

The song and its recording was featured in a fictionalized recreation in the 2018 movie Bad Times at the El Royale. The character of Darleen Sweet was based on singer Darlene Love and the character Buddy Sunday was meant to represent producer Phil Spector.

Kover it Up Vol. 3 - Then She Kissed Me

There were times when I would have preferred it if there were only nine songs on Love Gun (1977) instead of the usual ten, similar to Destroyer (1976) (1).

The reason for this pious wish, I think, should not be difficult to understand and manifests itself in the form of this nice and relatively undemanding little cover of an rather outstanding song by the Crystals from 1963, which in the Kiss version listens to the name Then She Kissed Me.

And deep down I actually like this version, but I still think that it would have had a better and more appropriate place on one of the '78 solo albums, similar to the way Ace's New York Groove actually worked very well and became a solid hit, or Gene's unexpected Pinocchio thing was a wonderful pearl of obscurity in the midst of his already varied buffet (2) .

Furthermore, I'd even bet that Paul would have put a lot more effort into Then She Kissed Me on his solo album than the obvious lack of inspiration for Love Gun allowed, and thus unfortunately degenerated into a mere gap-filler. Paul himself commented that Kiss didn't really do the song justice, which in my opinion is of course correct, but it's mainly because Kiss couldn't do themselves justice with it, and could have done a lot more with it, in fact would have been obliged to.

Just think of the downright heavy version of Kissin' Time from the debut album (1974) and what it had to offer, which is certainly due to the significantly higher level of input from the band, while the arrangement on Then She Kissed Me was seemingly based a little more on the Beach Boys' straightened and clean cover from 1967, which doesn't really surprise me at all. However, the increased amount of Beach Boys harmonies has been cleverly dispensed with.

But even the Crystals put a lot more pressure on the gas pedal and developed such a great momentum of their own that they seemed to be on the verge of taking off. Kiss' version is therefore extremely tame and well-behaved for this reason alone. And minus the speed of the Crystals and the surf harmonies of the Beach Boys, there's not much left of the Kiss stable's own language that's worth mentioning or even identity-signalling, apart from a tiny distorted mouse guitar from the second verse or so, which gets lost inconspicuously in the mix. But at least it's there. Somewhere.

Despite the versatility of Love Gun, Kiss' Then She Kissed Me does seem straightforward, as do the other original compositions on it, but unfortunately quite out of place, and downright static, in direct comparison to the rest of the glorious album. I think the easiest way to illustrate this would be to imagine the band performing this song on stage as it is presented here:

Immobile, everyone firmly in their place - and not moving around. At all. Unimaginable for a band that has the proverbial ants in its pants, especially with such indomitable and insane tracks on the album like I Stole Your Love or Almost Human.

Whether Then She Kissed Me has manifested itself out of pure fun at the soundcheck or was just a commercial suggestion of the record company, neither of these two thoughts is absurd. If you're still wondering why Kiss covered this song of all songs, I recommend that you first listen to their version of Then She Kissed Me again, followed immediately by Love Theme from Kiss (1974).

I'll save my usual little story for another time.

And what better way now I'm back in the TDC fandom than my favorite underrated Gelfling, the Lord Commander from the sequel comics ! Well at least his fan rewritten version, Jarra, fanon rewritten as Jen and Kira's son, because the wasted potentials and undervelopped ideas still make me salty lol so recently, with @dracocheesecake we discussed that Gelfling hair are rarely unicolor. I had drawb him plain platinum blonde, like how I used to see who I HC to be his grandaunt Brea, but it turns out even she has lavender strands in the back. So we discussed what colors to give him with all these various genes (Vapra, Drenchen, Sifa, Stonewood and Grottan), and because they return the post we chose green and white/silver. So here he is with a few silvery strands and a green highlight in the back. Also another excuse to draw him barechested in his DILF glory
