Vascos modern outfit in that recent sketch is so cool. On what real clothing is it based?

I was mostly winging it, to be honest. Last year there was some talk of Vasco having a motorcycle and how spiffy he could potentially look in biker gear, so I leaned somewhat into that direction.

But then I got kinda sidetracked and I think his coat started resembling Kaneda's jacket from Akira.

I'm glad you like the headcanon, she's everything to me tbh. You can safely assume any time I talk about Ratio that this conception of her is in my mind.

ramblings under the cut (CW: vague mentions of intersexism and transmisogyny)

About her being intersex, I usually have two sets of headcanons: one where she has nCAH and the other hyperandrogenic PCOS. Part of why I have this headcanon is projection ofc; but it's also because I like the idea of Ratio in her goal to cure the disease of ignorance, she desires to destroy the false concept of the sex binary. It makes the goal very personal to her, being affected by intersexism, in addition to the altruism.

I think Ratio struggled a lot in her transition journey, because she felt like she had to give up a lot of the things she liked about her body and herself and had to conform to beauty standards she didn't like in her attempts to achieve the Ideal Woman status. I think she used to do extensive voice training, wear full beat makeup, and tried to avoid putting on muscle to give the thin and dainty vibe. Even though she likes her deep voice, a full face is a sensory nightmare for her, and trying to keep her body mass down was unhealthy for her...that's what she thought she needed to do. Her oddly British accent (odd for a character Greek and Roman inspired) is from imitating women she thought of as elegant and refined. She used to wear pumps in her classroom and offices even though she hated how they hurt her feet, because that's what other women wear to work.

And I imagine the Ratio we have in the present is one who is secure in her gender identity that she does not feel the need to overperform femininity. She knows that she does need to be accepted by others to know her own worth. Her body is toned and built, she speaks with a deep voice, wears clothes that are comfortable for her (cutouts for ventilation and a nice pair of sandals), puts on red eyeliner and calls it a look. And you can tell she loves it because of all those statues lmao.

I have a headcanon where D meets Adrian and have conversation about their/each other's abilities. In my headcanon Adrian see D as older brother, and D is a bit envious of Adrian because Adrian have it more easy to BLEND IN/FIT human society.😀

I find the thought of Adrian being the oldest very funny, idk why. And I also think they would poke fun of each other, but in a way that's so dead pan it is way funnier for the people around.

They probably bond over their daddy issues, not in a "talking their way through it" way but on a "silently sitting in the same room in contemplation knowing the other person probably feels in a similar way" type of bonding. Leftie probably makes fun of them both because of it, lol.

I wonder if they feel jealous of each other. Like, maybe D wishes he had an actual father figure, and Adrian wishes to be as distant in relation to their father as D seems to be. I'd totally get you on the human-passing envy.

I think they would get along pretty well in general, once again, in a "chilling in silence" way.

Your creative coding artwork is intriguing! If it’s okay, can you explain the process of how you create them?

Hellos, yeah sure. They're matrices, or grids if you will, each cell of the grid has a color value, or a texture a pixelated image, you have your instances of the grid, you're going to want to control how these instances appear, if you have just solid colors like red, gren and blue, then you have three instances being use in your grid, you will need to create some variables and rules to control how they are layout out, if you utilize a circular gradient for example, your going to map your instances to the color values of this gradient its the simples rule I can think of right now, so if you have three instance they are going to appear based on the numeric values of the gradient 0 being black 1 being white and every value between, so in other words you will make a gradient of your instances, you will also want a black solid instance to represent the literal black parts of the gradient, I always use animated noises, theres lots of formulas for the noises out there, if you prefer you can also load in a video file instead of creating the noise in the code itself. the rest is just stylistic choices and extra movement, I load a lot of teture and some animated texture too, so I animate some pixelated texture in photoshop and I clone them in the grid, its like making a mosaic, after that there are a few animation things for the glitchness of it, like blinking instances, changing their rotation values rapidly, some dithering. its a little cumbersome to make it in Processing but you can use Touchdesigner there's more tutorials on creating matrix grids and cloning stuff into them, its also a little easier to create noises in too, and touchdesigner has a free version with a single limitation of only exporting artwork in 1080x1080, touchdesigner is simpler coding with blueprints instead of typing. you can use a 3D package as well since the logic is pretty much the same, creating a grid of clones -> control the instances layout with something, and some 3D packages have access to python in it so you can create your specific system or effectors and such.

He's a poor victim of me liking monster characters and giving them horns, fluffy tails and fluffy ears 😔 That's honestly most of the inspiration, as well as other cryptids for example Mothman (the floof...)

I had like two different variants of EJ too, one which was more cryptid, where he had wooden horns and hunted exclusively in forests and another where he was much more demon-like and gets his prey from the city.

However, I'm pretty random when it comes to things I'm inspired by, because some things can just randomly pop up in my head and I go: yeah.. that sounds dope.. kinda cringe, but cringe culture is dead, so whatever >:)

helia is obv meant to be androgynous and bishounen but I get why people would think he was designed to be a woman initially because his name is a woman's name actually. helia is a girls name. also, compared to avalon or other long haired characters, he's also somewhat more different.

I don't think it's too far fetched. some language groups like greek fans could have other pov. in latin american spanish his name was changed to helio for this very reason.

i know his name is feminine. that still means nothing tbh

sky is a popular girl's name in the west. does that mean he's automatically a girl? like no of course not. no one is arguing that sky is a woman just because of his name. griffin is a masculine latin name. don't see anyone questioning her. if his name is the Only proof people have that helia was meant to be a girl, that's weak when other characters also have feminine/masculine names that don't align with their canon gender.

also, you need to ask yourself, what is different about helia? like actually answer that question. what exactly makes helia different from characters like palladium, valtor, or avalon. it's not his body - helia has the same muscular body the other specialists have and he's one of the few male characters we see shirtless on screen. it can't be pacifism - he's not a pacifist and pacifism is not a feminine trait. it can't be art or poetry - neither of those things are feminine traits/hobbies. it can't be his fashion - he's just wearing a shirt and jeans. if anything his wardrobe would be considered more masculine compared to the crop tops the other specialists are wearing (even for the time). it can't be his personality - nabu is also wiser and gentler, timmy is also a simp, brandon is also caring.

so what exactly makes helia different from other long haired male characters?

the only thing that makes helia So different is that other long haired male characters are often coded as white Or specifically have darker skin, so fans don't feel the need to question their masculinity (which is a Whole other discussion). helia is not coded as white. even fans who don't consciously realize it are still picking up on that coding. these white fans then feel comfortable questioning his masculinity because they've done that to men of color for decades. it's not just asian men either. white people love to question the masculinity of all men of color, regardless of race or skin color. that's how they demean them. how they separate them from white men. they uphold certain racial and gender stereotypes and then demean any man who "doesn't fit that". which in their eyes, is all men of color.

it's like this: man of color doesn't adhere to western/white/european cultural standards > white people realize, don't like, insult them, and try to make them feel like they need to adhere > white men prioritize the patriarchy and feel the need to glorify it > in order to insult men of color, they specifically call out and question their masculinity > white people around the world think this is genuinely innocent because it focuses on gender instead of race > white racists get away with it

listen, i know at first this seems like a really harmless and maybe even amusing topic. "oh helia is so pretty people think he's a girl ahahah". and for some fans it is genuinely harmless. they just think he's too pretty to be a man. and then they realize, laugh it off, and don't question it again.

unfortunately, that's not the case for a lot of other fans. it's not innocent. it's not harmless. it's white people picking up on racial coding and questioning his identity because of it. you guys don't do this to other characters. you don't do it to sky, who also has a "feminine" name. you don't do it to palladium, who is slimmer and has a gentler, nicer personality. you don't do it to saladin. or nabu. or ogron. or gantlos. or anagan. or tritannus. or nereus. or king neptune. or king teredor.

all of those names are male characters with long hair.

i know it's nice to assume that this is innocent and genuine. but unfortunately, that's not the case. this is an example of something that isn't innocent for a majority of adult, white fans. even if they're not doing it On Purpose. subconscious bias is called that for a reason.

Of course it hallucinated a completely wrong episode and timestamp, but it did it with confidence, and I guess that's all people care about.
