as a society, we really need a better understanding that just because something is labeled as AI does NOT mean it's generative AI. AI has existed for a LONG TIME before generative was a thing....like bffr

nothing to boil the blood in the morning quite like coming across an etsy page of AI generated furry adopts and going "okay, well, surely no one's *buying* these seven fingered airbrushed freaks," but, alas. almost 600 sales. making literal hundreds of dollars off of stolen work. fuck off and blow up.

Subtitles below the keep reading:
Hey you, shut your mouth and look at my paw! DON'T FORGET!! [Incomprehensible sped up gibberish] This... Journey... Money... Loads of coins. [Incomprehensible sped up gibberish] What-about-her? What-about-her? ... What-about-her? 'She still like me? [Quiet but mostly incomprehensible gibberish about subtitles] O P S O P N O-1 1. Here's the spell: Love the mermaid, for sure! The mermaid is HAPPY! Okay! It's pretty normal for a fish, right? Guuuyyyssss, beeeee caaarefuuulll wiiiiith theeee GIIIIIRRRRLSSS!!! [Incomprehensible] Oh! Silly! Oh yes! Lamb chop boy! [Incomprehensible] [Very quietly, while white noise is playing over it] Goood eevening, aand weeelcome too the shoooowww... [In the background] Ohhh, mooney!
#video#elevenlabs#i generated three versions of this video and basically spliced together the best parts from each one into one thing#and also toned down the flashing of the red and white pound signs to be a lot slower#i'm honestly surprised how well everything spliced together. i was expecting it to be even a little bit noticeable but. nope apparently not#i did a few generations of meet the spy's intro and tried to splice together the best bits but theres just so much happening with the audio#there's a lot of funny portions of that audio. maybe i'll try again at it and see if i cant get the parts i like in one thing#truthfully i also don't know how much folks'll like these. as in compared to around the time the infomaniac stuff was made#so i'm not sure how much of these i'll be putting together and uploading. mostly just been fucking around and showing my friends#i'm mostly just intrigued to hear what the ai tries to say with some of these generations#since it's just trying to translate from one language to another#in this case. providing videos in english. and setting the translation from russian to english.#which seems to be the best thing so far (that i've tried) that causes more of the words being said to be off-script#like it'll usually most be like whats originally being said mostly but other times it's completely different from the source#i think this dub shows it best. between ''hey you. shut your mouth and look at my paw!'' and ''love the mermaid. the mermaid is happy!!''#i am also officially out of characters to generate more so i won't really be doing more than what i've already done for a while#i wanted to try and give it a video that plays backwards. flip that. then let it dub over it forwards.#but i'd have to wait until i get the character limit reset

Music-related content mill YouTube channels making uncanny AI videos about the Animals' history is almost funny to me for how ridiculous they are but then I remember that the emphasized details of said history (usually regarding Alan and Eric's relationship) are going to be the over-exaggerated parts that have been regurgitated uncritically since the 90s for the most shock value and drama and will just poison the well for their impressionable audience of boomers and "did you know the bassist of the Animals managed Jimi Hendrix?" fun-fact sharers, yet again pushing the blame and scapegoat status onto Alan and sullying interpretations of their relationship (and the band's general dynamic) further.
...Bring it on. Those shitty channels may work hard to spread misinformation, but my overly affectionate art and earnest infodumping about a band and a musical duo only like eight people care about works harder. 😎
Tumblr media
#honestly the funniest part of all of this is that the people in charge of these content mill channels think animals history is interesting#and like yes it is but not in a 'THEY WERE AT ONE ANOTHER'S THROATS AND HATED EACH OTHER FROM DAY ONE!!!!!'#more in a 'they banded together and endured a great deal of manipulation from their superiors and found comradery despite differences.' way#with the relationship between their original keyboardist and vocalist actively demonstrating that throughout the decade#i just hate how all discussions of the animals boil down to 'alan ripped them off' and 'chas managed jimi hendrix' and 'eric hates alan'#like yes my own conversations about the animals are overly centralized around eric and alan too yes i know i'm autistic 😔😔😔#but purposefully the more positive aspects and i love exploring the band's greater dynamic with each other and their managerial staff#people making alan the scapegoat time and time again when JEFFERY IS. RIGHT THERE. jimi hendrix fans know this!!!!!!#i scrolled through like twenty of this account's videos and only one mentioned any 'managers' and never any names#HIS NAME IS FRANK MICHAEL JEFFERY. PLEASE.#MICHAEL PETER HAYES ISN'T INNOCENT EITHER but we hear mickie most out in this house 😔#don arden was apart of some of that shuffling too i'm sure#anyway aghghghhghh it never stops i always have to fight back against the haters with my price-burdon truth 😔#not that i mind because i looooove talking about them and the animals in general but.... there's always a new force i have to fight against#AND NOW ROBOTS ARE MAKING IT. NOT JUST ILL-INFORMED JOURNALISTS AND FACEBOOK COMMENTS.#can't wait until i have time to make little animal doodles again because the comradery (and price-burdon affection) will be STRONG SO STRON#as always i have a 37000 word essay about alan price and eric burdon's relationship that i am able to deploy at any moment#i really really REALLY LOVE THEM. NO MATTER HOW FRACTURED THE BAND AND THEIR HISTORY IS I LOVE THEM. THEY WENT THROUGH SOOO MUCH TOGETHER.#and alan and eric really did like each other a lot fun fact eeeeee okay dr pepper time#so many of these ai videos are about their ed sullivan performances specifically lmaooo#probably because it's the only decent footage of them in circulation 😔 thanks ed sullivan for capturing the hilton smiles#things i said today#eric is pissed ME TOO#animusings

There’s another post going around about this, but tumblr won’t let me reblog it but...
When I read a story written by a human being, I’m not just reading it because I want to read a coffee shop AU with a specific plot description. I’m reading it because it’s making a connection to another human storyteller and seeing a piece of them carved into the words. Storytelling is a human act of sharing joy, angst, tension, resolution, satisfaction. It’s an act of love.
Writing and reading a story isn’t just an act of creation and consumption. I hate that commercialism and AI are reducing it to that sort of transaction. Like oh, you need words on this subject and that’s the end of it. Like what we really needed was just a vending machine we can push buttons on to get a fix, as if the human creating the story wasn’t a factor. That the author’s life experience and views and feelings haven’t infused the words with their own unique touches.
I’ve read hundreds of coffee shop AU’s over the years (and thousands of fics in general). I’ve seen many similar tropes reused across stories, and just like an AI would, I’ve learned things about writing them that I will always carry with me. But unlike an AI, a human author is not just the sum total of coffee shop AU’s we’ve consumed. Even if we used the same prompt, the same sets of tropes, the same characters. I will always choose the human-crafted story over the computer generated one.
Because again, I’m not just looking for a very specific fix via a series of words. I’m looking for a human connection through story.
Unlike an AI, I have BEEN to a coffee shop. I’ve had experiences in coffee shops. I’ve had funny little meet-cutes with people. I’ve accidentally spilled coffee on myself and knocked heads with someone as we both rushed to wipe it up. I know what it FEELS like. The machine doesn’t.
I’ve also read millions of things that aren’t fanfic, or coffee shop AU’s. I’ve experienced things OTHER than going to coffee shops and having meet-cutes. And I know what all those things feel like when processed through my personal human lens of experience, which is different from every other personal human lens of experience.
All the machine can do is spit out what it THINKS a human experience is, and I honestly don’t care about that at all. Fic is not a “product” to be “generated.” It’s an art form that connects us to other people who share the same love of a thing that we do.
People who, even when all writing the same characters in the same setting to the exact same prompt, will all add something or have a viewpoint about something or bring a completely different personality and life experience to the story that no one else on the planet could. That’s what I’m actually reading.

one bit of anti-ai rhetoric i really hate is the idea that suffering to make art somehow makes the product more virtuous. i especially see this said in reference to disabled artists and i find it condescending at best.

no here's what it is here's what it really is i think when we canonize certain things as part of a particular era or time period its like we have to abandon those things because we have now drawn a line between the past and the present. and i dont like looking at it that way. even tho it is sort of inevitable. and if you do carry those things forward with you then you become representative of the era. now u are a time capsule against ur will. but luckily (?) the overarching Popular Culture we used to have has split off into one thousand million separate algorithms and microtrends so we might never have a truly cohesive and collective Cultural Era again. <- kind of knows that isnt true as im saying it but i mean its definitely not the same right
