We're really out here trying our best to do better by GL than HBO did huh!! I've been loving Reloaded, it was so nice to see someone else pop up in the gL tag after it was comparatively dead for so long. I've been working on my re-write since just after s2 came out and it was lonely in there for a while there lmao.

So I'm glad you enjoyed the couple of fics I've already done! I'm re-using parts of one of them for the actual re-write since I'm going for the 'keep the basic bones of s2 but aim to fix the execution into something less shit/re-work the worst bits' and I didn't want to write that first nemesis fight over again from total scratch lmao...

I want to finish writing all of the re-write before I post it in full, but that does mean it's taking forever whoops.

I'm still not past the introduction of Sinclair as his portion is so involved and I keep getting distracted by other projects/hobbies, but I did finally get to a point where my take on Sinclair is actually fun to write! I'm keeping his boyfriend because I did at least like that Sinclair was made canonically queer and they're actually cute when I'm just doing my own thing.

So since I feel like posting some WIP bits, here's my favourite Chris/Sinclair stuff I've done so far.

“YEAH! Take that you fucked up tin can!” Sinclair winced. The shout was like an ice pick being driven into his skull, but it was also what finally drove him to lift his head. There ahead of him, wielding a large piece of debris in one hand, was a heavyset Asian man dressed in torn clothes and covered in grime. He reared back, and for a split second Sinclair thought that projectile was for him, until he heard an impact, and the last of the humming died. The man brushed off his hands, pride written on every feature, and in that moment he was the most beautiful thing Sinclair had ever seen. “Coast’s clear!” the stranger called behind him. There was movement, but Sinclair didn’t care to look, his attention caught by the man’s approach. “And we’ve got a live one.” Sinclair’s throat was so dry he broke down coughing twice, in the time it took the stranger to kneel in front of him. “I-I’m not Union. I-I know— with the uniform, and the—” Another violent burst of coughing cut him off. The stranger handed him a canteen and a crooked smile. “Yeah, no shit. You’ve got way too much emotion on your face to be even a defector,” he said, and if Sinclair wasn’t so busy chugging the offered water, he might have mustered a laugh. “That, plus, the lack of helmet, the collapsing, and the drone getting ready to turn you into a novelty cheese grater kinda gave it away.” “Christ, I could kiss you right now,” Sinclair blurted and then regretted in quick succession. Fuck. He’d been in near solitary too long, his filter had worn away to nothing and he was making a damn fool of himself in front of the first sane people he’d seen in weeks. Except the stranger just… laughed, good-naturedly. “Close, the name’s Chris, not Christ. And I’d say buy me dinner first, but it’s a bit hard out here.”

AND then a little later...

“What about the refugee railroads?” Chris lowered his beer bottle and wiped his mouth. “Too far.” “Vanguard safe crossings?” “Too far.” “The— fucking Canadian border?” Chris laughed, “Too far. Further than either of the other things. Jesus, dude. You sure you haven’t got a concussion?” “Mostly,” Sinclair said, rubbing his face with his intact hand. “I just— you’re going to die if you stay here. A drone only has to get lucky once.” “And if we go deeper in, we’ll only die faster,” Chris said with a simple shrug. “We already have to pack up and move every few weeks when the line moves. And every time, the Polity border gets a little bit further away. Believe me, man, I want nothing more than to get outta here, but it’s just not happening.” “What if I helped?” The offer fell out before he’d consciously decided to make it, but Sinclair stood by it. Even when Chris looked at him dubiously. “No offence, dude, but you’re just one guy. And two days ago you could barely stand.” “And now I’m fine,” Sinclair insisted. “I’m a soldier. I was decorated for valour after I got my squad out of a run-in with the Union that should’ve killed us all. I was the only one who could even still hold a gun. I swear, I could get you somewhere safe. Are you really telling me you’d rather keep sitting around waiting to die than take a risk?” Chris’s brow furrowed, and he didn’t answer immediately, taking another swig from his scratched up bottle of beer. Sinclair sighed. “Look. I need to get to a Vanguard base one way or another. I don’t want to leave you guys behind if I don’t have to. I owe you my life. And maybe dinner.” Chris almost choked on his drink. “Wow,” he laughed, clearing his throat, “you sure pick your moments, huh?” Sinclair shrugged. “Figure if you’re not actually into it I’ll just blame the concussion.” “That you don’t have.” “Exactly.” Chris rolled his eyes, but he was smiling. “Smooth. Smooth operator. Alright, alright, fine, we’ll talk to the others in the morning. It might be a tougher sell when they’re not the ones getting dinner with a hot soldier out of it, but hey, guess we’ll see.” “Are you looking past the just-got-done-being-tortured chic, here, or is that part of the charm?” “Are you kidding? There’s a whole genre focused on how hot soldier guys look after they’ve been through hell.” “Not sure that’s the intended takeaway of action movies.” “Well,” Chris shrugged, starting to pick at a can of food, “it was definitely my takeaway.” Sinclair laughed. Honest-to-god laughed, in a way he was surprised he was even capable of after the last few weeks. The normality of the moment was like a balm on all the aching parts of him, mental and physical alike. For a moment he could almost forget that the reason he looked like shit was because he’d just escaped the worst experience of his life. For a moment it felt like the fight was over.

Now I just have to actually get through the remainder of my Sinclair set-up and then I'll be only one chapter away from finishing the first half of the fic... so close and yet so far lmao.

Do people legit just intentionally ignore details nowadays? Like how Barb when talking about RWBY's funding states they're STILL looking to other ways of getting the necessary funds for the show. In other words, they haven't written it off or are saying its not going to happen. They're still actively looking for ways to offset some of the cost. It isn't new that they're lowering costs across the board and seeking out partnerships, this has been stated since the CR deal. So why its somehow shocking people I don't know. In fact I'd wonder if this isn't why Barb felt comfortable mentioning it, because its already news that out.

Also I've mentioned it before, but it needs mentioning again to those rooting for another company to grab the show: "Genlock s2" be careful what monkey paw your ass leans on.

As to anyone talking about RT's finances, funny how pirating + soapbox hypocrits that seek destruction over change will have that effect. They're just as bad as the homophobic bigot incel/dudebro side of things.

Shit like this is when I start tuning out people in the FNDM cause its always a new thing that is dooming the company or the show. If you're that damn worried then:

hand out First memberships to people or if you really need a roundabout to do so you can also do it through Twitch via Tier 2 subs on the technically RT channel but really currently its the Inside Gaming channel as they're the main ones that use it. Cause Tier 2 or above sub = a First membership. Also the IG crew (Blizz, BK, and Jack w/ honorable mention to Griff) are fantastic, so deserving the eyes and subbing.

There's like... 5 layers of irony in the existence of Genlock season 2. The theme of the Ship of Theseus being prominent in season 1, and later season 2 being transfered to a different company, with writers, artists, and overall staff being replaced entirely to the point where it's not the same show anymore. The hamfisted anti-capitalist ideology that wasn't present in the first season (or at least not in the way s2 presents it), and the fact that season two is what it is because of greedy capitalistic practices. The fact that a plot point was greed and wanting results as quick as possible (also leading to the plot being rushed), and the fact that season 2 was quickly rushed out with only about a week of marketing out of nowhere.

Just... So many things. They may have had an RT supervisor, but a lot of good THAT did.

For those unaware, Kdin Jenzen made a Twitlonger explaining the abuse she faced while working there. They underpaid her and she was given a derogatory nickname by fellow employees. She and many CRWBY members wanted to give out a statement about Clover’s death but were silenced by the higher ups and she told them that Kazu’s storyline in GenLock s2 would be harmful which they responded with “controversy is good”. I never supported RT, monetarily before but I definitely will not now considering the shit that has happened. Please, support Kdin and other former RT staff in the best way you can. They could use it.

i apologize for ever partaking in the zero discourse. it’s obvious to me now that the team was likely horribly mistreated and were set up to fail by RT, and i wish i knew then what i knew now. truly a despicable company, it was obtuse of me to ever assume torrian or anyone else on the team made those calls. it feels so clear in hindsight that RT wanted the controversy to drum up viewership. they said “controversy is good” when it came to genlock s2, no doubt in my mind zero suffered a similar fate when torrian has even stated he wanted the reds and blues to appear. his vision was twisted and he did what he could with what he was given, RT let him take the fall and ex communicated him after he left. absolutely sickening.

and who says i still do? i've long since stopped watching it since the travesty that was v8 and s2 of genlock. BUT i will admit that even though i was severely disappointed in everything they did, like everyone else i had hope they would grow out of this abusive and frat boy mentality they seem to be stuck in. i've explained it before but i did want them to get better and grow as people and actually make an effort. now though? this is just way too much to forgive or wish that they'll get better because it's clear they won't.

however, like my friends who also have rwby aus, i'm not throwing away years of actual hard work, especially when i'm proud of the story we've created. just as many people rewrite franchises like harry potter or twilight, especially because the creators behind them are garbage, i'm gonna do the same.

I have seen no less than like 3 different pieces of mecha art today that made me go 'hey that's really cool!' that turned out to be AI generated and istg. Guys. Keep the AIs in the mechs to help pilot them sure, but don't use them to DRAW THE DAMN THINGS.

I'm literally teaching myself to draw mechs out of spite at this point. AI generated mecha art, or any AI generated art make me almost as mad as what HBO did to Genlock S2. AND HONESTLY GL S2 READS LIKE IT WAS WRITTEN BY AI ANYWAY. DVSJBDJWHDKAJDJ.

Going to call this a .5 to my other post in regards to people trying to say RWBY is essentially not progressive:

Let me present an actual case of faux-progressive (or what the ones that act like RWBY isn’t would actually say is):

Genlock s2

- Badass female main character that was seemingly repairing her relationship with her ex in Miranda in s1 > s2 made into a rank chaser, non-amicable who has a “friends w/ benefits” type of “relationship” w/ a fkboi that is hit with the first nude scene in the series

- Kazu’s struggle with identity and this may be a me thing but clearly fanserviced via normal head on feminine body; which then ofc goes into an eventual sex scene involving said feminine body nude. Following that Kazu dies.

- Val/entina ofc gets hit with the fanservice via a sex scene and feminine body is fanservice shot

- The idea of “both sides-ism” in trying to treat the Union as not really that monstrous and really they had a point in the end in essentially seeking both their own deaths as well as others. Nvm their confirmed bigoted-ness and Nazi-esque slant, cause “grey morality” + “both sides are just sides and details shouldn’t matter in judging them”

- Marin the female leader of the military = going into authoritarian mode and ends up killed

- Sinclair is mlm but only has a few slight moments to indicate it

- Cammie goes suicide route in embracing the nano tech (she comes back but had no clue that it’d be the case, instead willingly going into death)

- As part of the “both sides-ism” both Val/entina and Yaz’s stories are undermined with Yaz

So yeah, anyone trying to talk down about RWBY’s progressive elements can take that bullshit and shove it up their ass. I suffered through s2 of Genlock seeing what faux-progressive-ism looks like. Its LGBT+ and female presenting forms fanserviced to hell and back; and both sides-isms that ignore disgusting and despicable aspects of one side in order to maintain some dumbass neutrality state. Hell it didn’t even leave my love for the idea of human consciousness beyond physical bodies scifi concept alone in tying it to the “they aren’t so bad or wrong” bullshit parade of the Union. People have mentioned Genlock s2 showcasing why RWBY should never listen to the HTDM/shitdom/bitchdom and its damn well accurate, it also does the same for LGBT+ and female rep as well.

Oh and a note cause I’m still petty af over Genlock s2: I normally put spoilery stuff under the cut, cause don’t want to ruin things for others. In this case I see it as doing people a damn favor in sticking to only having watched s1 if that’s the case and not bothering with the dumpster fire insult that is s2.

Okay. Starting out and this is more of a small thing, but I've gotten really sick of Sci fi settings that always like showing off how super advanced they are by showing technology that does not look like it'd be used.

Like Dave and his girlfriend decided to take leave to visit his mom with……some kind of physical hologram?

Why? Why do this instead of just physically going there?

My nitpicking aside. This opener is actually really solid, establishing this mysterious threat that I totally didn't spoil myself on and making the main hero look likable.

"How did it get so close?!" Lady. If nome of you noticed that thing, ya'll would have fallen apart even if this Union thing wasn't around.

Okay, this opening episode was actually pretty good.

And….wooow that Theme Song does not match this kind of show. It's apparently a licensed song, which is just baffling to me.

They forced people from their other projects to rush their work on this show, they had a moral line not to force a rush job from Jeff and Casey Williams?

I mean, I'm happy for them not being forced to crunch out or anything, I just find it funny that's where they draw the line.

I like that Chase is actually taking all of this very well.

Being in a digital space where you control the mech and can affect the mind and personality of the mech pilot is actually a very interesting concept.

I'm sure somewhere this idea was done before, but this is an interesting concept.

The Chase clone twist is actually very compelling.

It took us til the end of the season, but we finally got the genlocks in their promoted designs.

The designs do clash with the shows visual aesthetic, but they are actually cool.

Okay. Overall, this first season was actually pretty good.

I'll be watching the second season tommorow, since it's like 10:00 where I live and i have a cavity filling tommorow.

So if what I heard about Season 2 is true, ill be in for a double whammy of pain.
