This moth in particular has caught my heart. Something about the pattern is just so pretty. Like layers. I cannot get enough of them.

Wavy-lined Emerald Synchlora aerata liquoraria
8/2/2024 Los Angeles County, California
hsug1747 via iNaturalist, CC-BY-NC
---
These incredible photos by hsug1747 are the only photos on iNaturalist of this subspecies of wavy-lined emerald moth. These geometer moth caterpillars will attach bits of their food to the spines on their back, which helps camouflage them and protect them from being eaten.
I am always astounded by the amount of biodiversity and amazing creatures that can be found when you look closely, even in the heart of the greater Los Angeles area, a place that is notoriously urban-sprawled into every corner it can reach. It makes me sad to think of what has been driven locally or completely extinct, but also brings me some measure of hope. Protecting natural spaces is so so so vital to preserving what biodiversity we have, and hopefully providing a space for what has been driven away to return.

Eucyclodes gavissima or, as it’s much more catchily known, the oriental orange banded green geometer moth! A strong contender for my favourite moth.

Not sure exactly what sort of disguise this caterpillar is going for, but I think it looks like bird poop with tentacles. This is a horned spanworm moth, and when it is alarmed, those tentacles are inflated to look more intimidating (like in these pictures; I'm a very scary person \s). Nematocampa resistaria

Ireland has nice landscapes without necessarily having massive mountains or anything. but the degree to which Belgium doesn’t have any landscape is borderline funny. this isn’t a country it’s genuinely like all the stereotypes say, a gap between Germany and France. not being judgemental because it is what it is. but the lack of features makes me feel like I’m in a bad dream.
