This is such a baffling image because it's AI, but it wholesale lifted a real photo and added an extra leg to the springtail!? The original image was photographed by Andy Murray:
Tumblr media
Why would you fake an image of something that is already a real creature?? It's weird. I can only assume the person was trying to make the bug look "cuter" by ironing out its wrinkles? Well. They don't deserve its precious love handles.
On a more serious note, as someone who is an entomologist, it infuriates me seeing how many fake invertebrate images there are online, because it's going to make ID so much harder for people if they want to look up a bug they found in their garden.
Yeah, never believe people when they tell you AI isn't theft or "doesn't scrape things." It scraped a whole ass photo.

Y'know when you're doing a quick painting study and get all swept up in the moment 😅 I didn't know this would turn out so hyper-realistic, I'm suddenly nervous about AI accusations for the first time in my art journey (fuck AI, to be clear)

[Siren wailing]... Big pink hawkmoth season is upon us. I repeat, big pink hawkmoth season. This is not a drill.
This is an elephant hawkmoth, warming up its wings & taking off. It's caterpillars are also magnificent chonks, and they eat rosebay willow herb (AKA fireweed in the US I think?) This is a perfect reason to do less weeding. Keep some weeds, get big pink hawkmoths like this one.
Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board ✨🦋🐾🛹✨

something people don’t ever seem to understand is that i could be bitten or stung a billion times by a wasp and it wouldn’t make me hate them.
i’ve been bitten by dogs, outright mauled by cats. no one seems to find it confusing when i explain that despite these experiences i still love cats and dogs with every fiber of my being.
no one finds it at all acceptable to ruthlessly murder a litter of kittens because one of them bit you. yet destroying wasp nest for nothing at all is commonplace.
we squash, suffocate, drown, and destroy all the little things that unnerve us. because they don’t provide for us something we deem valuable enough to keep them alive.
it’s time for people to start feeling bad about killing bugs. time for people to start to care. for ‘animal lovers’ to love all animals. for ‘save the bees’ to be ‘save the insects’.
feel bad
feel bad.
it’s no longer acceptable to follow your fear with hate and killing.
insects are dying out. they are going extinct. their homes and natural habitats are being destroyed, mowed to death, broken up by pavement and stone and brick and plastic.
if you care about the environment, if you care about your life, and the lives of your children and their children after them -
C A R E A B OUT B U G S
they are absolutely crucial to our planets survival and THEY ARE DYING OUT.
most importantly, at the end of it all.
they are alive,
and what makes them more deserving of love and care and the right to thrive, than that?

I'm so pleased to have done this commemorative illustration of a Dark-eyed Junco pondering a tiny world full of bugs and red clover in celebration of Graham Montgomery's successful Ph.D. defense. His work involves examination of insect declines in Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains, and the potential impacts of those declines on birds.

A rednote user ( http://xhslink.com/a/hGMGjJtnHQB ) keeps these big tree crickets as pets, they make silk with their mouths to join leaves together, they will try to do it anywhere and they are so cute I'm mad we don't have them here
