I’m on the last book of the prequels to the Bridgerton series (First Comes Scandal) and I’m dying of laughter at Violet Bridgerton as a young mother. She’s always been my favorite character in the books (not as much in the show, but she’s still awesome.)

One of my absolute favorite conversations is between her and Georgiana talking about Edmund wanting to call the man out who impugned her honor. Georgie couldn’t believe he’d ever do it and Violet said “You’re his sister.” Of course, Julia Quinn did this on purpose because, well…Anthony and Simon and Daphne.

Second favorite Violet thing is “Colin is such a hungry baby I just don’t know what I’m going to do with him.”

Review: Four books, four brothers and four vastly different stories. And now, the last one has come to its end. The Rokesby lineage closes its final chapter.

This last instalment of the Rokesby storyline, First Comes Scandal, began wonderfully. The easy setting, the quick build-up and the plot-line itself made the story entertaining and immersive. 

I had long looked forward to reading about Georgianna Bridgerton, for her character is so uniquely her. Although, I must say, my surprise remained with me when her main love interest was revealed to be Nicholas Rokesby. For the longest time I thought it would be Andrew! Though I’m very happy it wasn’t in the end. I can imagine they would drive each other mad. 

What makes Nicholas and Georgiana a great pair is how much understanding and respect they have for each other. Even if they jest or get angered, there’s a modicum of that high esteem remaining. The trope chosen for this novel displays that in phenomenal manner. 

Nevertheless, there is a reason First Comes Scandal did not receive a higher score. It is far from outstanding, and to break my previous Rokesbys streak, less than seven out of ten stars, was a shame, really. The first half was highly amusing and up to previous standards. Yet…

There’s something about all Rokesby books that is too dragged out, too prolonged to be enjoyable. It usually happens somewhere in the middle, leaning toward the second-half of the story. However, First Comes Scandal stands out against it’s companion novels, for even after the usual “break” in pace, it made me lose complete interest around 80% down the line. It took me some time to resume my reading and what I found was predictable. The book didn’t end in an incredible plot-twist, nor something anywhere near surprising. 

That is not to be said that I didn’t like it, because I did. Not as much as previous instalments, but it was sweet and on par with the general storyline. Thus just… the same for another 50 or so pages. Alas, it got a bit repetitive and boring – it’s easy predictability a major flaw in making the story liven up and regain its footing. 

In conclusion, a decently good book, but sadly tapers down during its second half. Unsure if it’s the best ending to this series… Maybe Quinn would be up to another round of Rokesby novels?

i think that’s the only explanation we’re going to get… and a few pages later colin says he owns a small state. still i just think that providing for 8 kids requires a huge ass fortune. 😅

Georgiana Sophia Crane

Profession: Midwife

Hobbies: Boxing, Singing and piano, Chess, Star Wars, Sci-fi movies.

Georgia is the quietest of the Cranes and prefers the indoors compared to her siblings. Phillip calls her little mouse because she was so quiet and calm as a baby

She spent a lot of time with her Aunt Sophie learning how to play Chess after watching her beat her mother and it didn’t take long before she picked it ip and was very good. She beat Eloise when she was 12 and by the time she was 15, she beat her Aunt Sophie, and remains the only person to have ever beaten her at chess.

Georgie was obsessed with Babies and watching her Aunt Lucy popping out 9 kids she loved helping out with them and it was only natural that she wanted to be involved with babies and kids as she grew up and it had been a toss up between paediatric nurse and midwife but a tour of the hospital that her Great Aunt Georgiana worked helped her make her decision.

She fell in love with boxing in Uni when she used it as a stress relief and quite enjoyed the beauty of the sport and enjoyed it, and then she found out her father used to box and it gave her a sense of being part of the family.

She loved all the old Star Wars films and nerdy films like Lord of the Rings and Back to the Future and loved watching them with her older cousins and Uncles. When she saw her Uncle Ben’s and Uncle Greg’s Star Wars collections she was in heaven

She’s the only musically inclined Crabe and has a rather beautiful singing voice and used to sing her younger cousins to sleep when they were all together.

So George and Geoegiana are the same age so I like to think they stuck to each other like glue during cousin hang outs. They took in Georgie five years later as the third Bridgerton cousin with the same name.

They definitely get up to shenanigans when they're together. Sometimes, it's illegal, like when they broke into Uncle Anthony's house to "help" with his makeup for a meeting he had the next day. (Aunt Kate knew and approved) But like a tame illegal, especially since Georgie has been helping his mama commit crimes since he was in the womb.
