hi it’s me again here to annoy you about hamlet - you’re on act 2 right? That’s the beginning of the “fuck around” stage of the play as I would call it. A lot of it is setup for what happens in act 3, which really gets the ball rolling imo. But! Since you’ve started, you’ve met my favorite character (horatio) who I can’t really talk about in full perspective until you’re finished but… he really is an important character even if he doesn’t seem important at certain points. Do you have a favorite yet? (sorry I don’t want to pester im just really excited to hear what you think about it)
Hi again! It's not annoying, don't worry; you're allowed to express your interest and excitement :)
I just finished act 2 and am now at the beginning of act 3! And I think I can see what you mean--I'm not far, but it seems like things are about to Start Happening. We've got the ghosts, we've got the foul players, we've got the background. Now it's time to Do It.
I don't think I know any of the characters well enough yet to have favorites, though I am intrigued by Ophelia. And of course having more info about Hamlet makes him more appealing by default for the time being. But! I have seen you talk about Horatio quite frequently, though in all honesty I didn't read the posts in full because I hadn't read Hamlet. I'll keep my eye on him though :)
And of course, Polonius and Claudius's schemes and what each of them are doing intrigue me, even though I may not like them!
#hamlet#quil's queries#moonlarked#let me check. i'm on a3s2#hamlet's little nunnery spiel was amusing#like bro I think she got it you said it like 4 times#get thee to a nunnery...#also shout out to the scene summaries at the beginning of each one on the left side of the page <3#i haven't read a lot of shakespeare so I do need the help and vocab sometimes#even though its tedious to read like that#oh this just reminded me of this one girl from my class...#who would always ask 'what's the point? how is this going to help me in the real world?'#including about a few shakespeare plays#and I'm just like. shaking you shaking you shaking you!! not everything is about immediately functional application!#sometimes its about learning and engaging with art you aoihrgawn#she tied it into some weird brand of feminism too#where it's like. yes. feminism is good. however. there are other lenses at your disposal as well you know right?#you can't be 100% feminist lens 100% of the time you are going to MISS things#and you ARE#anyway#apparently I had some annoyance stored up#interesting

Ryl certainly didn’t hate Gridania, not after having spent so many years growing up beside the city. It was typically the destination for some escapade or other that ended in drunken kissing on the balcony of the Carline Canopy.
But today the gates into the city felt more like the bars of a prison slamming behind her.
Her governess I’lna worked with shocking efficiency when she felt it was warranted. Within a matter of three days of catching Rylaxha plotting to kill Loren, I’lna had contacted the conjuror’s guild on her behalf . Something about connecting with the land and respect for life.
“You’ve started to frighten me, Ryl,” I’lna had said when she announced that Ryl would be sent away, “Your father wouldn’t want you to be angry with Loren, and certainly not sinking to violence.”
“I wouldn’t need to if he respected my father’s wishes instead of usurping control of his business! My business!” Ryl had shouted back. There was a twinge of hypocrisy in her words—she’d shunned the responsibility for over a year now since her father died, and she was well past the acceptable grace for mourning. But still, the mercantile company was hers by right! Gods be damned she was going to fight for it!
For all the good it did.
So here she was, at the gates of New Gridania, radiating heat as she seethed. There was nothing to learn here. As soon as she could convince I’lna that E-Sumi Yan had set her straight, Ryl would hunt down Loren and choke him to death with her bare hands.
Ryl’s story

I am a very frequent offender of laughing harder than anybody else at my own jokes, but I am also a fan of the phenomenon when you tell a joke without thinking much about it and then it becomes funnier because of how much somebody else laughs at it.
Over a year ago now I was hanging out with my friends and we were talking about babytalk. Like, the way they babble incoherently before they can form basic words and it's just kind of inexplicable to a bystander by their parents know exactly what they're saying. Like a baby will be like ababasaaghaghaghaaba and you'll be like what could that possibly mean but their parent will be like "oh she just wants sweet potatoes" or something super else specific.
I said that someday my baby will be like ghaghaabababgagabgaa and I'll be like "oh he's just quoting Hamlet."
And that got like, you know, a medium sized laugh from the friends as it was supposed to, but then one of them specifically looked me in the eye and said "Wow. That was really an A+ joke" and I was like "What?" "Your baby quoting Hamlet."
"Oh. You're right I guess that is hilarious."
And I otherwise probably would've forgotten that joke but because that specific friend got such a kick out of it, I associate it with him, and every now and then I'll just think to myself: heh, that is funny. My little son quoting Hamlet.
#i think that's also a characteristically 'me' joke to make#like when a specific joke is just so fitting to one person's sense of humor it can be funnier.#i. i do quote hamlet. i quote hamlet in real life to people's faces sometimes#i don't think that's funny but who else's baby is gonna pick up the habit? no one's. just mine.#tales from diana#like my baby doesn't just grow up interested in literature and one day read hamlet. when he's mature enough to understand it#it's just a part of his foundational vocabulary#my son's first words: 'get thee to a nunnery. why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners?'

pound for pound hamlet added like a load bearing amount to the modern english lexicon
#aye there's the rub. good night sweet prince. the poison chalice. get thee to a nunnery. methinks the lady doth protest too much#(to be or not to be)#and that's only like the oft quoted heavy hitters. there were so many in there but i'll stop because brevity is the soul of wit

I am so happy someone reposted this! I loved it the first time and I love it this time and if you love it oh my God I think you will be so happy if you go read Lauren Geoff’s The Matrix
Cast out of the royal court by Eleanor of Aquitaine, deemed too coarse and rough-hewn for marriage or courtly life, seventeen-year-old Marie de France is sent to England to be the new prioress of an impoverished abbey, its nuns on the brink of starvation and beset by disease.
At first taken aback by the severity of her new life, Marie finds focus and love in collective life with her singular and mercurial sisters.
(This is an actual award winning novel that I would say is pretty good and VERY readable)

FemAziracrow AU where Aziraphale (here Sister Francesca) is a Sister of a religious congregation, and they regularly meet up with Miss Crowley, a collection curator….

What I'm hearing is that Hamlet wanted Ophelia to become a necromancer.
Love how it’s written as if this was a completely normal thing to say.
