𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐎𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐍 𝐃𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐂𝐊-𝐈𝐍 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅? We’ve all heard of the SMART acronym • The idea that goals need to be SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, REALISTIC & TIME-BOUND. But how many of us have set ourselves a SMART goal in January and reflected upon it in December and wondered what went wrong? 🙋🏻‍♀️ Guilty! Last year I set myself the goal of running 1000 miles. It was SMART enough, but then after inputting the target into Strava I did nothing with it. I just left it on the shelf and waited for it to achieve itself. When it comes to health and fitness, long-term goals are defined as those that you would like to achieve in a 6-12 month period, these can then be broken down into ‘milestone’ goals (aka medium-term goals) that are bite-sized targets that you can work towards over a 1-3 month period (if your long-term goals are 12-month based I would say your medium-term goals should be quarterly ones) and then these can be split further into weekly or even daily actions to help you achieve them. By breaking down your long-term goals into more manageable ‘chunks’ they become less daunting and it increases their relevancy because the time scales become more current. Checking in with yourself allows you to see how much progress you have made towards your goal and how you can get back on track if things haven't gone to plan • My running goal for this year is 520-miles instead BUT having checked in with myself yesterday I can see I'm about 12-miles behind already...winter running is not my friend but the end of the Cross Country season is upon us along with the lighter evenings which should get me back on track! R A I N B O W S 🌈 Life isn’t always filled with rainbows and unicorns, sometimes it’s filled with busy schedules, body confidence issues and a whole boatload of stress • Some people say change is good, and in some cases it is, but working away for me has become a major hurdle when it comes to being true to myself • I can’t workout how and when I’d like to, I can’t eat when or what I usually would and I certainly don’t get the amount of sleep I would usually get • The result is a body I no longer recognise in the mirror, a very unhealthy lifestyle & a severe lack of energy • But these past few days I’ve made healthier choices, I’ve got more sleep and I’ve even put in a few hours in the gym • Safe to say to say that colourful meals like this one have me feeling 10x better already! . E G G C E L L E N T 🍳 Eggs are always an excellent idea in my book • I like them scrambled with a dash of almond milk and a hint of lemon and dill, l adore them poached on a thick slice of fresh bread and most of all I love them fried - especially if they’re served on a toasted flatbread atop a coconut yogurt based sauce and sprinkled with chilli flakes • You could say I’m a protein fiend as I am all about the rich white meat, the eggy snacks and even add a little extra hot to my porridge in the colder months • But it’s what works for me • I’ve had friends who tell me me I should eat less carbs, I should eat less meat or that I should just eat less full stop • But what works for me is eating protein rich meals & snacks frequently, it keeps my appetite happy and my IBS suppressed • And that makes me a happy bunny!!! . G O I N G C O C O 🥥 These past few months (read: this year) I've let myself go · Working away a lot has taken its toll on both my physical and mental strength ... I've been eating a grab and go diet, not getting enough sleep and been far to sedentary · I've not been enjoying the things I used to, blogging has taken a back seat and I feel as though I have become a totally different person · Although I have developed in someways, I feel as though I have regressed in others and I am desperate to 'find myself' again - I want to win the battle and get back to being myself · This year has made me go coco out of sheer frustration because for large chunks of it I have really want to be true to myself when circumstances have held me back · In the past people have mocked me because of my love of a routine, but HAVING A ROUTINE works for me - I love having a routine that I can stick to in daily life, it keeps me grounded and on track · Inconsistency has the total opposite effect, it holds me back and frustrates the hell out of me · But despite all of the hurdles this year has thrown at me I AM HAPPY · I am grateful for all of the opportunities, changes and lessons I have had · I am grateful for the fact that my body can take the long hours, the manic weekends and the weekends away · For the fact that I no longer feel the need to binge, punish or over work myself in some stupid attempt to 'fix' myself because yes I may be a few pounds heavier than I'd like to be and I may be a little out of shape BUT I AM HAPPY and that means more to me right now than having abs #dearbodythankyou . I appreciate that this is probably the least instagrammable shot I have posted for a while, but it was whilst eating my Sushi last night that I realised I have changed A LOT this year! . P I Z Z A M Y H E A R T ❤️ Never am I happier than when I have a tummy full of carbs • It always frustrates me when I see billions of posts / articles about how “bad” they are for you ... carbs are our main source of energy and without them we would crash and burn • So instead of committing to no carb or low carb, I’m committing to being carb clever - reducing my intake of simple carbs such as pop, sweet treats and refined carbs (white bread etc) and increasing my intake of complex ones instead • Green veggies are a great way to fill up and fuel your body - but so are wholegrains and starchy veg ... it’s all about balance • So don’t be afraid of you carbs LOVE THEM!!! . F U E L ⛽️ Current situ = laying in bed, deciding what I can have for breakfast • Living the suitcase life is all well and fun until you realise how out of your stride it puts you • Over the Summer this has really got me down - I enjoy eating well, I enjoy being healthy and not being able to be either of these things really throws me • I need my routine • But suddenly it all makes sense to me ... I may not be able to eat the same foods I would usually and I may not be able to workout as well as I do BUT I can still be sensible • Protein rich breakfasts, light lunches and well balanced evening meals • On that note I need to get moving ... coffee anyone? . R E S T & B E T H A N K F U L 👐 I am so excited for the long weekend ahead of us ... and not because I have loads of plans for a change ・ I feel as though I have hardly stopped over the past few months and whilst I have loved being busy and all of the rewards it has brought with it, I cannot wait to spend some time doing nothing ・You heard me, I am going to spend the last Bank Holiday before Christmas (oh yeas people, I went there) doing nothing, zip, zilch, nada ・ The last time I really took time off from everything was when we were in Ibiza in May, but luckily the great British Summertime (aka the thing we never really get) has kept me sane and evening meals on the patio have kept me happy ・ I don't know what I expected from Ibiza, but it certainly wasn't the tranquility that I found ・ If there is one thing I have learnt in 2018, it is to spend time resting and being thankful for what I have - now all I need is for UK Mail to turn up with my lazy Bank Holiday weekend essentials! .
