How the 2016 "film" honors Harold Ramis: A bust in the corner of a room.
How Afterlife honors Harold Ramis: It has Egon be a massive presence throughout the movie as he helps his daughter, his grandkids, and his colleagues take down Gozer one last time, and finally reconciles with them before crossing over. Not to mention his death, as well as the aftermath, is treated with gravitas.

*Ghostbusters: Afterlife Spoilers*
I think this movie may have pulled off the classiest, most respectful cgi resurrection of an actor who’s no longer with us than any movie before it.
There was no moment where it felt fake or uncomfortable or uncanny valley. It just felt like Egon and it was absolutely beautiful.

Rambling opinion from someone who can't process this movie fast enough:
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is just a big love letter/thank you note to Harold Ramis. Even if people say it's just a cashgrab that doesn't add anything new to the story, or the 2016 remake was better, if you look deeper into it, you realize who the focus of the movie is. It isn't the kids, or the old team, or even just the Ghostbusters franchise itself. In the end, they all just play supporting roles (very good suporting roles mind you), but supporting roles all the same. It's all about Harold Ramis and the role he played, not just as Spengler, but also the role he had in bringing this character to life, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Who was the Dirt Farmer? What role did he play in the lives of the town, the role he played in his family that he left behind (both biological and found famjly)? They wanted to honor him as best as they could in a way that was befitting a Ghostbuster. I don't think the cast and crew will care if you think it wasn't as good as the original cause deep down, they made it for one person and they hope he can be proud of them.
