JAN 19/24 Friday … GHOUL IDEAS; Physicality/body funciton

Thoughts on Ghoul bodies are many & SO big, but these are clear enough to be made concrete & shared.

Mostly, stimming from thinking on how their appearance is more ‘thought-form’ than solid concept. They are not us, and when willed into humanity (or living “top-side”…there’s a better term for this…PLEASE) they take an appearance to make humans comfortable. So much room & intrigue for off features & uncanny human details (see Swiss and his teeth), but not that full focus..

With this they can alter the form @ will, this extending to perceived sexual traits & anatomy. You don’t think things like nipples are something they need to think to give themselves… baby Ghouls nurse somehow but are NOT mammal; the visual of Spit’s chest being a rib cage w/ skin pulled over it, yes. But they can and do reproduce , both amongst themselves & w/ humans. No dwelling on this and shit of Ghoul sexuality and gender — this is later writing. Ghouls can deny themselves the feeling of things like genitalia while others embrace these things…think a Barbie/Ken when sat beside a real person. This lack of “hardware” does note mean these Ghouls necessarily lacking in physical connections, no. In the same way a doll is not denied its desirability for lacking in these traits either. Some of this, you think, stems from lack of understanding/seeing the purpose in something  innately human; others would made slide under a form of asexuality/aromanticism (you think this suits Mountain). This won;t be the last time is this said…out its so close to Angels finding form and a sense of self in a casing they don’t fully know; piloting something new.

Others see themselves in app aspects of sex and gender and forms themselves to whatever specks suit their comfort. Be it for comfort, fun, or mating purposes, it’s can all be shifted @ will.

All, most Ghouls are capable of carrying kits, it just comes down to ‘hardware’ and how the talk of things go w/ their chosen partner. Also gender is not a Ghoul concept and means little, but they are so very capable of transness. This entire idea is rooted in a form of queerness.

Other Ghouls, like Spitfire, by biological convention would be thought of as falling under the umbrella of intersexuality. Will not repeat the nonchalant, looseness of gender!!! They are this mangled mass of meat built fresh as needed, and the flesh mound grows and writhing w/ the warmth of explorative connection. BUT it is a matter, still, of comfort in expression and maybe too wanting to “be ready” when the right moment comes.

could be worth exploring reproductive structures more internally…is the needed internal work to bear children inherent, built @ will, or something but nothing all @ the same time. But Something not of this world can make something that is of it.

Does anyone have good footage from any Ghost live shows, particularly w/ a good focus on Rain playing??? Special girlguy on my mind today but also for bass practicing!! I think it’d help to be able to watch his hands,,. Not even think actually, i know. Esp since he plays w/ a pick and I Do Not usually do (<- plays everything w/ nails & plucking)

Spitfire (Spit, Spitter, etc.) is actually S*do/D*wdrop, but I don’t like to use either name for personal reasons . I very much love all Ghouls equally but would be lying if I said he wasn’t basically my favorite, so I took the time to work off my personal idea of his character & picked the name :]

Chronic fatigue Rain will always always be saying something but forget it as he’s saying it/waiting to make his point. Instead tho of saying he forgot he will just Stop talking he’ll go “you know when…yeah :]” and not clarify a thing

<- Has been overcome with emotions for the better part of however log bc it found not only others in the fandom who give the Ghouls disabilities, but also does agere things so having these feelings/ideas @ all feels less small..and had the realization that just because the Ghouls aren’t human doesn’t mean they’re incapable of humanity,. Something not human being put into a human shaped-thing and having to feel whatever physical woes come with that..

Mountain is semi verbal & OCD, more obsessive then compulsive. The other Ghouls have to redirect him a lot so he doesn’t get caught in loops

Generally I think water Ghouls period are much more prone to joint issues and aches, so both Rain and Spitfire are some kind of hypermobile + Rain has POTS. They’re both huge spoonies, but Rain gets greater use from mobility aids (want to draw him and his mobility items, actually,.). They both have brain fog, Rain’s comes from chronic fatigue

Spitfire’s elemental shift left him w/ stomach and lung issues too; sometimes a NG tube, but inhalers always and esp when away from the Clergy. Likes to rest and nest in bed to regather spoons; he and Phantom both r on the spectrum, Spit is a tactical sensory seeker (i.e. his compression wear) & has a very flat affect

Phantom is AUDHD & has a TBI (in relation to his facial injury). So much chronic migraine & brain fog, he’ll forget things.

Bc of his powers, Aether has insomnia real bad..but his Quintessence abilities make him a mediator or the other Ghoul’s ills; Phantom is a portion Quintessence so be can help too :]

Note sorta since I am already trying to improve on my Ghoul designs (they get Improved and improv’d as I draw them some) 2 still be recognizably human but not so cutesy. A flaw of my usual style; sometimes.

- Make Cirrus’ features sharper & longer, more avian. She’s like sparrows or egrets maybe. Spiny hair-feathers up the back of her neck + her tail is feathery . Long body and sharp angles

- Bug up Cumulus! She is meant to be very mantis-like, so define the segments of her skin (shell..?). Nod to things like a pronotum down her back. Wings..likely not that’s a lot

- Expand Phantom’s scaring — he looks a little decayed tho marginally more ‘living’ than Spitfire looks. They both look dead-like. Skeletal hand/arm maybe, all akin to burnt flesh & bone

Cursing the earth (/j), saw a post about an idea w/ the Ghouls I’ve been rotating in my head, but this is ok! No one owns an idea whatever..

A whole thing about Ghoul teeth the thing standing out to me being that Swiss’ teeth are uncannily, truely Human. Which makes SO much sense, u see how he smiles and shows off his teeth & so on,..but it has hit me: that is his biggest, if not his signature, ‘humanoid-but-not’ feature. There’s something about all the Ghouls that is Off when they appear more humanoid and for Swiss, it’s his big ass, too neat teeth.

No spoons to think any deeper on it, but want to draw things. Does not help that he is so chatty & loud also.

I know I have explained little to nothing about my ideas of Ghoul social structure, both how Ghouls tend to function as a collective, but also the finer points of the stage Ghoul’s relationships to one another. .a rant for a standalone post. We are here for a bizarre chart.

My thoughts have been that the Ghouls generally engage in kinship practices but unlike humans the lines are very not clear but also have little nuances; its strict but also no it isn’t. They form their own communities/packs (maybe not the word,), and while within that group everyone is cool w/ one another (which leads to a lot of causality in DOA), there are those little things that get categorized the best they can be with how humans would explain them.

The ‘secret third thing’ could just as easily be seen as a queer platonic relationship in a way, or that to be a bonded pair is more akin to casual dating.,it’s that thing of loose definitions and rules. Maybe not a popular idea but Spitfire and Phantom are very much sibling-like to me, “twins” if you really wanna slap a word to it. They are both mixed element, but share the aspect of being a portion fire(this is the ‘parent’ they share). They also share being brain weird (mostly Spit).

They both like to be outdoors and cozy but Dorka is a lot more bright colors and patterns, whereas Elké is more muted tones and greens thick under layers for when it’s colder.
