Amy and Shadow are arguing about what to make for breakfast and who's gonna make it and how, and Sonic is running laps around the kitchen table, hyped up on coffee. Knuckles is in the yard punching trees to make a training dummy circle. Since Blaze was sleeping over, she comes in and starts lecturing Shadow on fire safety, but somehow manages to accidentally set the stove on fire herself. Cream starts crying when there's panic, but Sonic puts it out and Shadow picks her up to soothe her. Tails tries to pull Omega through the door so he can go get a fire extinguisher to keep in the kitchen, while Amy now starts lecturing Blaze. Silver is crying now. Rouge sits on the chandelier and watches the chaos from above*

I have to hold a lot back, because I don't know how to communicate well without overwhelming an audience.

Let me show you.

I'm right now figuring out how to explain a summary of over two years of investigation into mecha feet and contact-patch design, which led to me designing many MANY foot designs I came up with based on fighter landing gear, tank design, hovercraft, omniwheels, screw vehicles, and my personal favourites: marginal terrain vehicles and the Landmaster of Damnation Ally, which overcomes the shortcomings of 4+ generation Knightmare Frames [...]

(eg, their lack of omnidirectional motion, which they had to solve by transitioning to a psudoquadraped both with the Akito of Exile's 4-leg mode using its arms as walking limbs and the Queen Asura, which is not the same thing as a psudotetrapod because a quadraped has a abdomin structure closer to a jumping spider with the legs arranged inwardly for the front and outwardly for the back, and a tetrapod is radial pushing legs out at square or diamond angles relative to the abdominal centroid)

...and of Artos/Armored Trooperoids of Votoms [...]

(which had problems of a small tarus or hoof style foot with zero longitudinal arch which results in a lack of clearly defined calcaneus and thus no formal heel which would allow terrain gripping via the relative motion of the arch and phalangal body of the toes the heel like a beak -- all to encorporate the wheel in the arch-space -- which the design partially compensates through the use of a talon mechanism, and an optional structure fitted to the ankle which folds down to form an extended front foot -- which Armored Core's 5th generation later references in the folding falanges of the UCR series -- and late,r the Blue Knight variant directly addresses by extending the foot by 50% to improve the contact leverage with ground surfaces)

This is accomplished by using the stair-climber mechanism as a heel, but encorporating a scissor mechanism. Right now I'm not happy with where it is and I'm still figuring out where the hinge would go to keep it omnidirectional, which again is the common failure of leg-design in these platforms.

This is a MASSIVE amount of information to take in even in this light summary without diagrams to explain what's happening and I'd need help to really express what I actually want to accomplish.

I'm right now deeply conflicted as to how deep I should actually go because we can get very lost in the weeds and I'm not very skilled at diagramming the points I want to make and I have an entire taxonomic and anatomical language for mecha that I remove from my work when I present it to the public most of the time.

Like do I go into the development path, do I go into the evaluation of evolutionary paths I see like throughlines connecting things like how we got from knightly designs in Panzer World Galient or Dunbine (the first isekai) informs Tekkaman Blade informs Xi Gundam informs Escaflowne informs White Glint informs Unicorn Gundam and Banshee informs NWGIX/V, etc, etc?

Like there's an entire lineage and family line there being Albidimiles -- albidimiles being a portmanteau of albido (white) and miles (knight) -- not to be confused with the line Samonaut, which are essentially samurai-astronauts commonly belonging to Gundam.

Since we're dealing with design memetics, common concepts of conventional phylogenetic development don't apply since through a genetic lens, mecha is incredibly dependant on horizontal transfer -- eg, passing of information via contact, so adaptions happen not always convergently but frequently in direct parallel, as an arms-race does.

So that's an example of what this is like when I don't filter any of it for an audience, and it very quickly goes off into the weeds.

What I really need to go to the next level is an editor who understands the concepts I'm dealing with; for example, do I talk about the inherent transness of the L-Gaim Mark II and Nagano's own history with gender expression as a mechanical designer and how he expresses those feelings of femininity in his work, or do I go full schizo and present the world with my wild "Nagano-Egg Fashion-Sapphoid-Mantis" theory which is in itself a total fever dream born of conjecture gleaned entirely from his work and photographs of him leering at Tomino instead of his wife at his own marriage?

I need someone to reign me in, but also be able to support me in this capacity -- ie, a research partner who's happy to let me toil in the weeds and then is happy to help me represent these ideas and understand what you as an audience can actually make sense of.

What has happened is I accidently over-studied the design part of mecha and understudied the illustration part which I'm actually very poor at.

I can go so much deeper than I do regularly, but making sure I don't lose people is a challenge I've never managed to solve so I mostly just write for myself and then only turn it into a post if someone has a question.

I know tfa Swindle has his pocket dimension in his chest compartment but if he could turn that off and just let me sleep in that drawer? Great rest honestly. Like most Soundwave’s casette holder but no room mates and the sound of swindle’s soothing voice as he makes deals alongside all the noises of his internals. curious, Devy doesn't have a unique voice in your continuity, right? he just uses his components's vocalizers? any voices he favors using over others? depends on the use case?

Yep! His "voice" is just their voices in unison. I guess you could say this has some thematic relevance, but in the lore it's just that Megatron was cheap, Shockwave was cheaper and Bombshell didn't care.

He's lucky to have something of a voice, yk? He wasn't even supposed to have a face! (Or a mouth... Soundwave is disappointed with Megatron's decision-making skills.)

But yeah, he speaks through his body and moves his mouth in synchrony, giving bystanders the impression he has a throat mechanism or something similar. I don't think he can actively choose whose voice he speaks in, mostly because he actively denies his components' individuality. However! Subconsciously? Yeah, some voices get louder depending on his emotional state; it's not really clear cut and sometimes barely noticeable.

For instance, your may hear Scavenger's voice when Devastator is particularly apologetic; when he is lying you may hear Scrapper's voice as an undertone of whoever's voice is stronger at the moment; if Devastator is feeling a little bossy he'll speak in Hook's tone of voice, it may not be Hook's voice, but the intonation is there (ig if you're a regular at the medbay you get shivers when this happens.) If he takes a heavy blow and is feeling offended at being hurt, he'll use Bonecrusher's voice, and if he's acting like a little shit, he'll use Mixmaster's voice (maybe not the accent, one thing doesn't mean another.)

Uh, miscellaneous facts section while I'm here already:

He doesn't have Mixmaster's stutter (this may have made Mixmaster insecure for like... Two minutes after they noticed it.)

I don't think Long Haul's voice would be used as much. Reasons unique to Long Haul.

If he's particularly distressed, each word he speaks will come out of a different vocalizer. This is normally followed by him breaking apart into his component pieces.

He's an awful singer (theoretically he could harmonize with himself, but like, he won't.)

Also when a voice gets louder it doesn't mean his right leg is getting louder while the rest of him is getting quieter. It just means the rest of his vocalizers are adjusting to match the frequency and pitch of whatever part of Devastator is acting up.

After nearly 2 weeks of work powered by hyper-fixation and perhaps a bit of autism, I've finished building, cleaning, hand-painting, and spray-painting my first Kotobukiya Armored Core kit.

I've always had a fondness for the TYPE-HOGIRE since the era of the PS3, so it's a little surreal to have it in model kit form in my hands in my own colours.

Armored Core is great.

I cannot feel air temperature changes sadly, but the joints I can feel, alongside the overgrowth. I can feel pain and sorrow. I can feel happiness and fear. I may be a machine, but I was designed to also be a companion and friend for those who have a connection to me.

I have only one thing on my mind at the moment beyond my primary programming.

yes so the two characters in the in two drawing are arthur and zarian, the protagonists of my oc story, steelheart! arthur is a human, while zarian is a (conscious, autonomous) futuristic robot called a DRACO, specifically a v1 model.

i touched on it vaguely in this post, but more specifically the deal with DRACOs is this: they're supposed to be mind-controlled jet-motorcycles (that happen to look like dragons, because why not). they interface with the brain of their pilot via an implant attached to the spinal cord, which also serves as a storage compartment that the DRACO can de-materialize into for transport and charging/refueling (how? idk. sci fi future tech hand waving.) the implants look vaguely like this:

the main takeaway of this is that the DRACOs are 1) permanently connected to their pilot and 2) have like. direct access to the pilot's brain

now these things were not made with the whole 'the robots end up being self-aware and conscious' thing in mind, so being connected to an Awake one is... VERY weird. while DRACOs and pilots can't read each other's thoughts, exactly, they can communicate mentally, either by 'speaking' (like. thinking very clearly and distinctly, kind of) or just pushing abstract thoughts and emotions at each other. they're also very in tune with each other, like vaguely aware of where the other is at all times like you would be a limb, unconsciously mirroring each other, etc. aware DRACOs also 'borrow' senses that they don't have from their pilot (as in feel what the pilot feels), such as taste/smell, or sight and hearing when they're de-materialized.

so... not brainfused in the sense that two beings are now ones, but more like two beings semi-sharing a brain and even a body at times.

arthur and zarian get linked (as in, arthur gets the spinal implant) COMPLETELY by accident and have to contend with all this rather abruptly. as you can imagine, suddenly sharing your brain with a stranger (especially one who you thought was/is trying to kill you, and/or maybe possess you, because giant evil vampire robot) doesn't go over great.

but it works out, and they end up weird clingy besties! they're kind of like an opposites-attract situation where they bring out their own traits in the other. zarian is very snarky and a bit defensive, which brings out arthur's more sarcastic side and encourages him to stand up for himself. arthur, meanwhile, is a bit more emotional and playful, and helps zarian learn how to have fun and connect with others.

they're losers and they're my favorite guys ever. it's great

💧 - Mmm kind of a hard choice since I'm tied between fire or earth... I think fire cause of the sun and lihzahrds worship the sun + it fits his personality, but earth too because he loves the jungle... Mmm I think I'm going with fire. In drawings and whatnot I use symbolism of angry fire breathing dragons for him, because being the only of his kind and outcast and having the weight of the world on his shoulders fits the mythological creature dragon thing. Also because especially in older depictions they're shown as very solitary, grumpy, loners, selfish etc which also fits him. I use a lot of sun symbolism for him too not just because of the surface level 'lihzahrds worship the sun' thing, but because he is pretty much the only force that keeps the lunar cultists + the moon lord at bay, he is the antithesis to the moon (Yep, him x LC is your new favorite sun and moon ship that's right (jk)).

Also I know literally nothing about astrology so I can't speak for any of that sun sign stuff. I got no idea

Lucifer doesn't care how the labcoats say it works; he knows there's no such thing as a clean break from a drift the minute the plug is pulled. Instead, Michael goes from a second consciousness beside his own to being dragged out of Lucifer the further Lucifer gets from him, both of them gripping tight to the connection until it slips, until it snaps, with a violent recoil that knocks Lucifer's brain out of alignment and reminds his legs that they don't work. His next step falls too fast, too heavily, and refuses to take his weight. It's only Michael, now only a voice outside of Lucifer's head yelling his name, catching him from behind that allows Lucifer to collapse to the floor with his dignity intact.
