coastal redwoods of northeastern california on left, compared to giant sequoias of central california on right. husband @tayohshadowind got some time off work so we finally got to knock visiting the tallest trees in the world off my bucket list :)
while the sequoias are technically wider and larger by volume, the redwoods are taller and still massively thick compared to other trees. personally i vastly preferred the redwood forest over the sequoias- the forest was denser, easier to hike through, less crowded, and the thicker canopy and lack of fences gave it a much more natural and magical feel, whereas the sequoia park was crowded and very commercialized, making it feel like a zoo rather than a forest.
As someone who has personally seen and touched both basalt and petrified wood, the people out there claiming that what are very obviously basalt formations are actually petrified giant trees make me feel a very special sort of ire.
