So in Dutch you have je/jij and u/uw which you can kinda compare with tu and vous in levels of familiarity, but in my accent, we kinda turn it around where we use the polite form (u/uw) for everyone. (using je/jij here feels like I'm talking to a toddler or being passive agressive so I rarely do so)

But Danny (raised by their Dutch mum) tends to write je/jij, and I keep responding with u/uw, so our messages back and forth must look like some weird power play to anyone not from around here. Like Danny is trying to build a real intimate connection and I just go "as per our last correspondence-"
