Okay so I’ve been thinking back on the two princes podcast by gimlet (it’s on Spotify, you should totally check it out) and looked up some stuff cus why not, and I saw a lot of wholesome fan art and jazz so I was super excited and then I noticed something.

Everyone makes Amir taller then Rupert.

Which, to be fair, is reasonable considering that’s how most people draw them. But if you look at the official art you notice that, aside from the third seasons cover, all of their pictures together have Rupert at an angle making him look like he’s shorter.

But if you look at the season three cover, where they stand side by side, Rupert is actually significantly taller than Amir.

While, yes, they are all different art styles, I like to this Rupert is a good inch and a half taller and he uses that to his advantage at any given moment because yes.

I’m looking way too much into this, I know, and yes I know this fandom and series are both kind of dead but I just wanted to share.

I hope there are other people who still enjoy going back and taking a listen to it because it was sooo good and very underrated.

If you haven’t listened yet I do recommend it, it’s really good if you’re looking for a queer and inclusive piece of media that is actually really good.

In Oscar-related media consumption news, I listened to allllll of the Homecoming and Case 63 episodes! And really enjoyed them both!

I actually enjoyed this format of storytelling a lot, and the stories themselves were super intriguing and nicely paced.

I was also pretty blown away by how Oscar managed to convey two rather distinct characters using only very subtle choices with his voice, despite them being in pretty similar settings. (Not surprised in any way of course.)

If anyone has any recs for other similar media I could listen to I’d love to hear them! I’m into it, which is surprising me as I don’t generally enjoy audiobooks / podcasts because ahhhh prolonged noise 😅 (What is this format even called, idek? 🙈)

listening to a podcast about monkeypox and i'm aware that sexual rep in pride already got unnecessary negativity but there are some conclusions drawn from the fact that some of the initial few cases happened around fetish festivals because it's spread through sex and people are notoriously known to have sex, esp since you're having a festival around it, so i just want to say that queer people please please please be safe. getting someone pregnant isn't the only thing you should be concerned about when having sex.

Aragorn

Has an official Instagram and Facebook accounts as a head of state. He also has a private account that his friends follow him on: strideranger alternatively strangerranger or rangerdanger on tiktok. His insta consists solely of pictures of his horse, Arwen and occasionally videos of cool plants or wildlife. He captions thing like an old man. His Tiktok is tracking tutorials and again nature videos. He hates twitter and isn’t on it.

Legolas

All the social medias his names include princeofmirkwood, andmybow, and legolocks. Has over a million followers in insta, tiktok and twitter. He posts lots of glammy photos of himself in the woods and tutorials of how to keep your hair and makeup intact in the battlefield. He also edits slow mows of himself shooting orcs. Doesn’t have Facebook because he claims its “for old people” despite being the second oldest member of the fellowship Posts his random thoughts in twitter and gets like thousands of retweets every time

Gimli

anmyaxe, lordofglitteringcaves, gimlet, are some of his names. Posts angry rants on twitter and faceboo. Regularly gets into internet fights with trolls. Posts videos on tiktok of his various stone projects and his workout routine (the latter gets a lot of views) Everyone loses it when he and Legolas team up for a “elf braid vs dwarf braid” youtube video. Oh yes he also has a very popular youtube channel where he explains how to of various craft trades.

Pippin

Has made foolofatook his name for everything and also a hashtag. Huge on twitter and twitch, he also has insta and tiktok and a youtube channel with Merry. Said Youtube is very popular and involves pranks, media reviews, and him and Merry doing stupid shit

Merry

Does a lot of work on the channel with Pippin. Also has a twitch and twitter. Insta king people think he’s really cool. He is the kind of person who shares his progress on candy crush and duolingo. Tried to make merrychristmas his username but it was taken and so went with theweedprofessor. His tiktok is more popular than Pippin’s but Pippin’s twitter is more popular

Sam

Not huge on social media mostly got it because his friends peer pressured him into it. Has facebook and always says happy birthday to people on it but gets annoyed by all the politics. His instagram is samnotsowise alternatively gardeningamgee. Its super wholesome, lots of pictures of his plants and pets and him and Frodo. Sometimes he’ll post a poem

Frodo

Frodo would be on tumblr tho. Username is bagginit on insta and frodoninefingers on twitter which he never uses. His tumblr is ringringhello. He also has insta but rarely posts anything except occasionally a picture of Sam. He has a linguistics Youtube channel where he talks about elvish history and language. Actually the most political on social media this is because Frodo has a very strong moral compass and wants to get the word out about important issues.

Boromir

He’s a twitch streamer I’m sorry. He also has twitter at hornofgondor. Likes everyone of Merry and Pippin’s videos and posts and reposts them with captions like “love these guys!!!” Mostly shares memes on twitter and facebook very much dad vibes

Gandalf

Posts weird shit that no one understands on facebook and instagram at thegreywizard

Bilbo

He has facebook and likes to tag his relatives in things that he knows will annoy them. Other than that he just posts memories of Frodo like the proud parent he is Like every birthday he’ll post something really sweet and sappy like “so proud of the young man he’s become”

He gets in trouble on twitter sometimes but not nearly as much as Thranduil

Insta and tiktok at stewardstew. Mostly posts pics of his cats. Reposts everything Eowyn posts. Likes to uplift his friends. Answers citizen questions on official gondor accounts very warmly. Also shares memes

She has a podcast and everyone has been a guest at some point. She highlights inequalities in middle earth. Lots of reposts of feminist events and programs. Badass pics of her with her sword on her insta and tiktok. She does lots of tiktok challenges. Her username is iamnoman on tiktok and eowinner on instagram

Arwen

Like legolas is all over insta posts lots of glammy photos in the woods as well. But she also shares a lot of Eowyn’s posts. Posts lots of inspirational quotes and stuff. Is really into yoga and posts about that as well. Her name on all social medias is evenstarwen

so. Road to NML. You mean to tell me that the reason the rest of the country, Congress, and the President himself decided to write Gotham off, blow the bridges, and isolate everyone left - all criminals and asylum lunatics and 'undesirables', of course - was in large part due to *checks notes* a satanic rock star's unnatural, irresistible charisma and cult-like media manipulations aimed at dooming the city for his own benefit?

and that in order to find out what actually happens to this villain, who disappears from the Batman and 'Tec storylines...I'd have to *checks notes* read Azrael's event issues?

....yeah, PASS. I only included JPV's book on my reading list when I absolutely had to (*cough* whenever Cass pops up *cough*), so it's off to the wiki summaries for me!

...but okay, on the one hand I find it very funny how thoroughly fandom has excised this demonic media influencer aspect from the collective consciousness of NML - or at least it had never made its way to me via either fic or fandom posts. I know how few people read comics in general in this fandom, and even for those who do, NML is a Beast that only a percentage have tackled (see: me just starting to pick away at it!), so honestly it's not that surprising.

and like it can easily be left out of the story and still leave it coherent lmao!! One can certainly argue things are in fact neater that way; certainly it's not something that would ever be kept (or at least not in the same form) if NML were adapted to another medium, except as perhaps a normal media demagogue (or a montage of them).

but on the other hand...hmm. Thinking about Hurricane Katrina hitting all of six years after the NML storyline played out. And the debate over whether funds should be used for reconstructing New Orleans and other massively damaged areas. And people around the country wondering if New Orleans would or should be rebuilt at all. Or if a vibrant, historic city would just be basically wiped off the map.

I know this is a conversation that happens everywhere and every time a major disaster wrecks a city. There are always huge fights over disaster aid and funding allocations of any kind.

but man. It's something to see this fictionalized depiction in such close proximity to a real life disaster that paralleled it so strongly, and to know that - yes, there are always people who Do Not Abandon Their Homes and work to reclaim them. Yes, massive amounts of aid (federal and otherwise) and federal reconstruction funding did get dispensed. Yes, people cared, and yes, we rebuilt.

so...maybe we do actually need the demonic social media influencer's evil powers in order to comic book logic explain how everyone in the country turned their backs on Gotham and created No Man's Land.

like - no, it's not necessary. the narrative would work without it. and yet...

the premise imagines - requires? - a significantly more callous, selfish populace. Still plausible and compelling! Possibly even stronger as a story since the turnaround for No Man's Land still hinges on winning the country over to open Gotham back up, let aid in, and rebuild. But. You do have to start from - kind of a bleaker take on humanity?

it also kind of reminds me of what scintillyyy pointed out a few weeks ago about Dick killing the Joker, and how actually there's an important comic book superpower interaction going on there, too, with Rancor present massively amplifying Dick's hate and anger to push him over the edge.

but so few people ever notice or remember that and it certainly isn't one of those things that gets transmitted via fandom osmosis. (It was news to me!!) People focus on Dick breaking down and letting loose solely due to being pushed too far.

and that's extremely compelling on its own! It is! Just like the no-satanic-Nick-Scratch NML.

just thinking about fandom's tendency to ellide the supernatural or powered influences that are canonically affecting a situation, in order to explore/focus on more purely humanistic explanations or motivations...that actually end up being darker than what we might reasonably expect from real life, or from a character's typical values.

like it's part wanting to brush off comic book nonsense, part wanting to dive into gritty realism (that's not always realistic), part not having all the information because of learning things secondhand so you construct the most reasonable explanation...idk it's just interesting.

anyway.

more importantly: Dick and Tim are adorable in 'Tec 727-729!! Especially love them trading off yelling each other's names in fear/alarm, and also trading off protecting each other - Dick's "You hurt that kid and you're gonna be eating through a tube!" and Tim's clever solo rescue of a thoroughly captive Dick via clever use of a voice modulator and a two-way radio. The Boys 😊

as you opened the large doors of the vip room, you're met with confetti and a whole ass cake thrown on your face. it goes quiet for a second before everyone cheered and danced to the music, you sat on the long couch as you watched san and yunho drunkenly sing along to the karaoke songs.

you decided to take a quick breather downstairs at the bar as you watched hongjoong and seonghwa make out next to you on the couch. honestly the couple made you feel lonely, like why wasn't that you?

you stumbled a bit before sitting on the stool at the counter of the bar, it was weirdly empty for a saturday night. "hello! what can i get you?" you glanced at the boy, his hair, pretty eyes, and that little mole- "so?" "oh- sorry. i'll have a gimlet." "good choice!"

you watched him move expertly with the ingredients, smiling a bit. "you're good with that." you mumbled, "oh! thank you, mr. l/n" your eyes widen, flustered. "you know who i am?"

wooyoung giggled to himself as he poured the drink into the cocktail glass, "of course! not only are you a world famous actor, you're also a ceo now. congratulations by the way!" he smiled at you as he slid the cocktail across the counter.

"wow, that was so quick." wooyoung smiled widely. you caught his hand just as he was about to retract it, you held his hand gently in yours as you traced over his bones and veins. "you have... pretty hands." your words slurred together as you intertwined his fingers with yours.

you smiled to yourself at how perfectly his hand fit im yours. "so pretty..." your large hand engulfed his as you brought it up to your lips, kissing the back of his hand. wooyoung blushed as he watched your every move, is this really the infamous playboy l/n m/n?

"oh... sorry is this okay with you?" you slowly let go of his hand as wooyoung immediately pulled you back, "no! this- uh, this is fine. yeah, it's great..." he leaned onto the counter as you two made eye contact for a few seconds.

you laughed and kissed his hand again, "what's your name, beautiful?" something about the boy felt different, a good different. like a splash of color in your dull life. that sounded so depressing, didn't it?

"wooyoung, jung wooyoung." you repeated his name with it rolling down your tongue smoothly. wooyoung felt his stomach churn when he heard you say his name, you were so- perfect... you were so right to him.

"you know me, yeah?" you rested your cheek on your free palm against the counter. wooyoung smirked, "yeah, i do. billionaire playboy m/n, of course i know~" wooyoung teased and giggled softly as your face dropped.

"ah, no! i don't- i don't do any of those things! i've never even hooked up with anybody before!" wooyoung's heart swelled at your sincerity. your eyes held so much love and care, so different from the descriptions and images on social media.

"well... i'll have to see for myself and then decide. you'll come back, right?" you perked up at that, "of course! if it means i'll get to see your pretty face again, i'll come by everyday..." you stared into his eyes as you kissed his hand again.

even under the bright neon red lights that flashed across the entire bar, the red on wooyoung's face was very visible to you. in fact, you've noticed since the first moment you kissed his hand.

just then, a waiter comes. "mr. l/n, your friends are looking for you." "ah... really? i guess i should go," you look back at wooyoung, "i'll see you around, wooyoung." letting go of his hand, you let yeosang lead you back upstairs. wooyoung pouted and slumped across the counter, already missing the warmth of your hand in his.

Hi Gimlet. I thought of something this morning that made me gasp. I realised Buck House narrowly escaped a far worse diplomatic disaster by not doing their due diligence, and by allowing a pro-Sussex, anti-monarchist into their diplomatic gathering. What if she had gunned for one of the first ladies being hosted by Camilla? Or Camilla herself? I mean, things are bad now, but how embarrassing for Britain if they had allowed a visiting dignitary to be entrapped?

this is what i was saying in my previous posts about BP being asleep at the wheel. l don’t blame Lady Susan for whatever went down - the issue is that she had the opportunity to interact with someone like Ngozi, who basically has a hate trail against the RF online, to begin with.

Bp exposed itself to multiple risks: their visitors (queen Raina and crown Princess Mary were present), w+c’s event, Camilla, their staff. We live in a “gotcha” media environment - basically anyone can post anything on TikTok or twitter and twist that mess for their gain. This is a ticking time bomb that MM’s people set off to their own benefit, gleefully. To not do their due diligence on attendees and to expose staff who might not be in touch with today’s realities was very sloppy on their part. Yes, it sucks that all of this implies that royal meet and greets will now be more controlled and lose a bit of that personal touch, but that’s the reality of things.
