It’s been good between you and Seungmin. Unbelievably good — to the point where people turn around and do a double-take. The two of you aren’t exactly famous for being a cute couple. . . it’s the opposite, actually. You were sworn enemies. Not a day would pass by without you glaring at him as he walks by, and him making an idiotic remark about you.

One pair project later and you’re all over each other. Seungmin now refuses to sleep without texting you a “good night,” and the first thing you do in the morning is to text him, “good morning.” The two of you are fools in love — not exactly dating but not just friends either. You’re in the middle, and the two of you agreed that you like it that way. It gives you time to adjust to the affection; as Seungmin said, it’s no good to rush into things. 

None of you is seeing other people, you bask in the fleeting affection in hallways — things are going well. 

Were going well. 

With Seungmin’s favourite drink in hand, you walk to the Student Body’s club room.  He’d texted you earlier that he had some matters to discuss with Chan, the president. You figured that he’d be tired, whatnot with all the classes he had prior. Some coffee ought to give him some energy. 

You’re about to knock on the door when you could hear voices inside. Under the impression that the meeting is still going on, you lean against the blue-painted wall to wait. You pick on your nails as you wait, excited to see Seungmin. 

“How’re things going with Y/n?” you could hear Chan speak among the rustles of paper. 

You quirk up at the question.

“Good,” Seungmin says, making you smile, “believe it or not, that idiot is actually capable of affection.”

A typical Seungmin response. No shocker there. 

Chan’s laughter echoes in the room, you could hear it clearly from outside the door. Happiness erupts in your heart, giddy by the fact that someone you like is complimenting you behind your back — albeit it not sounding like a compliment. That’s what you like most about Seungmin, after all. 

“You should make it official already, seriously.”

“Hm,”, Seungmin hums, “don’t know about that yet. Don’t really want to think about it yet. It’s a burden. ‘m just having fun right now.”

Oh.

Just having fun? 

What’re you, some type of side chick? 

Your blood boils, feeling used and stupid. You would never, ever, talk about him in such a way. Overwhelmed by anger and disappointment, your hands begin to shake, accidentally dropping the drinks in your hand. The action sounds a loud thud, capturing Seungmin and Chan’s attention. 

“Huh?” Chan perks up, looking at the door.

“I’ll check it out,” Seungmin offers, the chair screeching as he gets up. 

He sees your silhouette walking away as soon as he’s out of the door, and upon seeing the drinks on the floor, he could put the puzzle pieces together. Shit, fuck — a series of cusses echo in his head. 

“Y/n!” he calls out, rushing to you. At that very moment, he cusses himself for not being more careful with his words, and for not exercising. Because god, now running after you is making his legs ache too much. Screw his lack of stamina, really. 

“Let me talk!” he yells out, “c’mon, y/n!”

“No!”

“Please”, he begs, the distance between you two closing in, “let me talk.”

You turn your heel around, your face heating up from anger. It shocks him. 

“Fine. Talk.”

“Okay, look,” Seungmin says through heavy breaths, bending his body and clutching his knees, “wait, give me a sec.”

You click your tongue, rolling your eyes. 

“Alright,” he continues, “did you. . .?”

“Yes, Kim Seungmin. I heard what you said.”

“Okay. . .” he pauses, licking his lips, “I’m sorry.”

You raise an eyebrow, “sorry for?”

“You know what for.”

“I want to hear you say it.”

Seungmin’s heart is beating against his chest unbelievably fast, “I didn’t mean what I said in a mean way. Having to think about whether I want to date you would be a burdensome thought —”

You didn’t let him finish. The sound of your palm meeting his face resonates in the hallway. It’s a hard slap — you know it, and he could feel it.

But it’s not the slap that hurts Seungmin — it’s the sobs that follow after it. Your cheeks turn red from anger, and streaks of tears run down them. He couldn’t stand the sight, couldn’t stand the fact that he had hurt you that much.

“You’re so stupid, Kim Seungmin,” venom is spit from your mouth, “I don’t want to be with someone who refuses to consider dating because it’s burdensome. If you have no effort to think about dating me, then I’ll save you the trouble and leave.”

Seungmin’s hand is clasped against his cheek as his eyes widen from shock. 

“Wait, Y/N — let me rephrase.” 

“I don’t want to hear it, Seungmin.” 

You take one last glimpse of him, pressing your lips together in an attempt to stop crying. Seungmin has said enough — no rephrasing or apology could mend the pieces of your heart, and you could no longer see him in the same light. You turn away from him, eager to escape from the man you once thought highly of.

“Y/N —”

“Goodbye, Seungmin.”

Seungmin knew he had lost you forever.

My name is Cici and I’m 29. I’ve been listening to k-pop since 2009 consistently, with SHINee’s Ring Ding Dong being the song that started it all for me.

This is the side blog to my main blog, @stonehearttae, which is a SHINee aesthetic blog I’ve been running for 10 years now. My favorite colors are a light baby blue and yellow, i really like coffee and boba, chocolate is one of my weaknesses, i can talk in vine references, my favorite animals are sharks and bees. 

Dawn is my favorite time of day, I’m fluent in two languages and self teaching beginner level in another two! I really like flowers, and my favorites are probably peonies, my favorite place to be is the beach!
