If I had a nickel for every time I watched an insecure British girl find herself in an emotionally/romantically charged moment with a tormented lil guy and physically shove him away and be mad about things instead I’d have two nickels. Which is not much but it’s weird that it happened twice

#Lucy’s was better but let me tell you coming off Hollow Boy and going something fun and stupid! and picking up a Christian historical #fiction book (which. you know their reputation) and then finding out it’s not terribly written and also has the exact same themes as #Hollow boy. I’m sensing a Theme in my Lent. I cannot Escape apparently #but then there’s a First Kiss in the book after all and the girl stops to spout a literal cookie cutter line from a gospel tract and I #don’t know which was worse for me to experience kiss (bleh) or terribly placed gospel tract (this is why we can’t have nice things)#what IS it I think maybe it’s that the language seems So Fake like you can say #’he pours out his love to us! he gives us his abundant grace’ but 99% of the time you hear stuff like that you get the feeling the person #has to use the Stilted Formulaic words because they don’t actually know what it means enough to express it in everyday language in everyday #circumstances. also it’s not human #now if she’d stopped him kissing her to stone faced hand him a gospel tract and walk away that would at least be a lot funnier

i think its sort of fascinating to consider how religions like judaism are so steeped in their history and culture that it seems like every single holiday i learn about is devoted to memory of something specific any jew can tell you about; and then you have christianity, which is so much the opposite that i had to inform one of my mutuals the other day that Lent is actually a universal christian holiday it just varies dramatically between sects how literal "fast" is

#like every single sect does stuff around 'giving something up for lent' for spiritual fasting #tho like not every church is strict #its not only a catholic thing and its ALSO not only a catholic thing to fast food-wise #but like fuck if any particular christian who hasnt spent time purposely studying the religion could tell you jack shit about that #let alone the history of any particular holiday #i think its probably the whole 'tool of colonialism' or whatever that did it #but its just kind of interesting to me how dramatic the difference is #christians REALLY do not understand the layers of understanding and history within other religions esp judaism #yelling at the void #also i feel i should specify i was raised christian so like im v much talking as an outsider observer to judaism

Is it too late to ask my rector what to I'm supposed to do for lent? I know Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday but I have honestly no clue what to do during this period of time...I'm completely new to this practice

so glad i dropped genshin bc they apparently have a pokemon type event happening right now and i hateeeeeeeee pokemon its not even funny

#i never talk about it bc i know so many people love that series and like whatever idc #but i hate hate hate it i never liked it it makes no sense to me #it appealed to nothing in me. i played pokemon x because a friend lent me their copy and told me to not give it back until i finished it #so i did. and it was. a game! it was a game #i could not tell you anything about it bc i have removed the entire experience from my mind #i tried pokemon go. did not do anything for me either #its just not something i like and i hate seeing it everywhere like im normally indifferent to it but the oversaturation of it everywhere #makes me hate it #'oh all 20 somethings grew up on pokemon' no tf we did not i did not do not lump me in with you #shay speaks

religion really requires repetition

#like. all the catholicism i have left in my head is because i was trained #so many masses. so much repetition #twice a week choir practice for 10 years. 3 masses every sunday. italian and 2 english #with an extra choir practice a week before first friday mass #for lent you’re supposed to give something up in sacrifice #my dad would make my sister and i give up our time #every lent. 6 am mass. every morning. for 40 days. for YEARS.
