Something you absolutely adore:

Four Little Crows off to Meet the Maker :: This is chapter 1 of my Antivan long-fic, Quinta de Talpa, and it sets up Zevran and Hamal's quest to oppose the Crows while also serving as a 'marriage proposal' fic. I think it's a punchy start to a really long project, and I adore it! It motivates me to continue. :)

The door to their room opened before he could knock, and Hamal looked at him, brow furrowed, eyes heavy with lack of sleep. In one quick sweep, he took in the blood-stained clothes. Zevran shook his head. He pushed his way in.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I may have… underestimated things.”

2. Something that was challenging to create:

For Suffering is Such a Part :: AO3 :: This is the first long-fic I finished, and it took me years to complete. I found it incredibly daunting to work on anything longer than 1k, but I was deeply attached to the story and couldn't get it out of my head; I dedicated myself to completing it for several months after picking up an old draft. It's set during the Nature of the Beast quest in Origins. I uh still think about it a lot o_ o;

“My! Aren’t you a poet!” Zevran exclaimed, laughing into his wrist. “Am I just a hunk of meat to you?” Grinning broadly at him now, Hamal settled down on one knee, amid beams of sunlight. “Vhenan, to me you are the spring thaw, and all that comes with it.” Zevran looked at him. He blushed to the tips of his ears. He would definitely have to think of sweet things to tell Hamal in revenge—but he was far more poetic in Antivan, and had been caught off guard, so for now he acquiesced. “The things you say,” he told him softly. “Fine, you win. I’m a spring thaw.”

3. Something that makes you laugh (or smile, if that fits more comfortably):

The Reading Stone :: AO3 :: I love writing silly banter, but I often worry it goes too corny. I fear making anything too tonally dissonant. With this one I just had fun with it, and wrote some ensemble goofiness in Orzammar. :)

“And as I said, there is no need,” Hamal retorts. “You all sound like Ashalle. I can get by just fine without glasses.”

“Not if we go by all those bruises you’ve collected, walking into corners,” Alistair tuts. “How do you manage in a fight?”

“An enemy is just a big shape. I simply hit it until it stops moving!”

“Maker…”

4. Something that surprised you (in how it turned out, how much other people liked it, etc.):

All That Matters is That You've Kept on Living :: AO3 :: This was a sweet short piece between Zevran and Isabela. But it felt unpolished and I almost didn't post it! The response was very positive, I was happily surprised. I still feel I can expand on it. Maybe one day. :)They deserve so much love, two of my favorite characters.

Yanking her legs back she tucks them beneath herself and tackles him with a hug, affectionate but very much exasperated.

“You talk about your husband too much, Zevran! No one will ever want to sleep with you!”

Zevran draws in a sharp breath, then he collapses into laughter.

5. Something you want other people to see:

Not a Homecoming, But Something Like It :: AO3 :: Another fic set in Antiva. This one comes very close to being part of QDT, but ultimately it is able to stand alone. Adelmar is mentioned in FSISAP, too, but only through flashbacks. She's an important part of my extended worldstate, as she helps Zevran heal past traumas, and vice versa (she was a prostitute at the brothel he was born in).

“I’m so glad you’re doing well. So tell me,” she scoots closer and looks at him eagerly, “What sort of life did you have, after you were adopted?”

“Adopted?”

By the kitchen counter, Hamal catches the subtle edge in Zevran’s tone. He pauses, holding the knife in his hand as a lull falls over the kitchen table, but he doesn’t know enough Antivan to guess what’s happened.

What’s happened is this: Zevran and Adelmar came from the same place, and know enough about that life to instantly understand that a lie has been told.

“Oh,” Adelmar breathes after a moment. “You… you weren’t adopted.”

Zevran lets out a laugh. It’s his ‘stalling’ laugh, and now Hamal is looking over, arms crossed, searching his face for clues.

“I was not adopted,” he says.

The opera-loving student had managed to get seats for the closest box near the stage, providing space for the both of them instead of needing to sit with the stuffy crowd down below.

“Well, it wasn’t too hard. All I had to do was give the ticket employee my name, and he practically jumped to give me this seat!” He scoffed.

(That was a lie. Lucero, in reality, had to bargain for many hours with the tired ticket seller, but it worked out for him in the end.)

“Ah! Look, Luce, the show is about to begin!” His companion pointed to the stage. The two grew silent as they watched the curtains rose, and the stars they wished to be began their performance.

“Thanks for taking me on this date, by the way.” Lena whispered as the 2nd act began. Lucero froze as his brain registered the words.

“D-dat- HAH?” he choked out.

“The date?” Lena looked at him oddly, “Inviting me to such a nice place… buying so many gifts before it began, I didn’t know you were such a romantic.”

What Lucero actually had in mind was a regular hangout, and only bought the seats because he believed it to have the best view in the entire hall. And the shopping before was just to waste time. But after putting it all in a romantic light… this really was a date, wasn’t it?!

Wanting to save face, Lucero cleared his throat. “I-its no problem, really. Plus, with how much money you have, you could probably buy these seats too.”

Lena bit her lip and the comment, her eyes narrowing to a slight degree.

“Well, I still feel bad that I don’t have anything to give you. So,” she pulled Lucero’s head towards her’s, before lightly pressing a kiss to his cheek. “How about a ‘thank you’ kiss instead?”

Feeling his face rise up with heat, Lucero turned back to the stage.

“…That works.” He murmured. Lena giggled to herself, noticing his reddening cheeks under his mask. Lightly holding Lucero’s hand, she too turned back to the stage.

They watched the play continue on in a comforting silence, letting the romantic moment linger on.

🌹 Where in the world does your OC feel most at home? Is there any reason why? If it’s not the place they were born, where were they born? Is there a certain somebody that makes them feel at home where ever they may be? What does home mean to them?

Merit: It is still probably his dryadic family’s forest, the Rosewood Thickets. Even after Merit’s party made an... unfortunate deal with his mother Stellaria, and even when she’s been overbearing and mercurial, there’s a deepset bond in Merit’s bones to those woods, and the knowledge that his mother does love and protect him so makes the forest a sanctuary for him alone, at least for the most part.

Bastian: For the longest time, it was on the road with his mentors/adopted family, one of the few ways he had of living safe as an orphan. On the move is still maybe the safest he feels, but if only since every other place in his life is burned, untrustworthy while he doesn’t know who killed his family or if they know he’s still alive.

🍂 Does your OC enjoy hugs? What do they do as a show of affection for: their friends, their family, their significant other(s) or for strangers? Over all what are they like with receiving affection from others?

Merit: Yes!!! Merit is so very tactile, often placing a comforting hand on a stranger’s shoulder, holding his friends’ hands, pressing a kiss to a lover’s cheek! Please give him affection, he loves it, though he’d be surprised to have it from people he doesn’t know very well or pegged as non-tactile people (which he respects as well, or tries to) 

Bastian: Bastian Hugs and physical affections are very good but VERY rare because he’s honestly usually touch-adverse unless you’re a friend, in which case he’ll deal w/you initiating (and hesitate to let go bc boy is also. Touch-Starved.) With family and S/Os he’s more comfortable but usually just shoulder pats or nudging his shoulder to theirs as a if-you-need-me gesture. Also sometimes head nudges, like a cat.

🥀 How would your OC decorate a notebook or journal? What kind of things are written in there? Could you give an example of a nice entry?

Merit: “The Brightwoods exist, more than in my vague memory of my father’s words years ago. Exciting! Terrifying! And my uncle, my father’s brother, lives a day’s journey from Monalta. I’m a bit we’re running on quite a tight schedule though, so I won’t ask that we delay any longer. Corrin also knows about this, which... I’m not what to think of, honestly. I don’t know what our Lord would do with this information though.” ----Merit’s journal would be personal entries and perhaps a mix of notes, varying from poetic insights to useless thirst scribblings, maybe some aimless swirly designs around writings. In between the pages would definitely be flowers and leaves pressed into place.

Bastian: “Crast, Kett, Atell all gone in hiding. Why? Bigger conspiracy?” [below this are drawings of various symbols such as a knife, a bird with an circle clutched in its talons and a red ink blot. The next page is filled with a jumble of Common and some other languages] ----Bastian would have a notebook, but one so rife with shorthand, iconography and mix of the languages he knows that it’d be hard to discern any real information at a glance. A mix of habit, paranoia, and just Bastian preferring to write quickly than take his time to be eloquent. There would be plenty of sketches and scribbles amidst the pages that add as decoration at least, that only tangentially relate to what he’s actually writing about sometimes.

💫 What is your favourite fact about this character and why?

Merit: I have a lot of Merit Facts and I don’t know which is my favorite, but I did recently get emotional that his favorite color and flower are blue Forget-Me-Nots, and how he loves them so much they have often bloomed in his hair 🥺 And the fact such flowers symbolize memory and loyalty when Merit��s desperate to be loved, to understand his father’s disappearance, to prove loyalty to his Court 🥺🥺🥺

Bastian: Bastian is still in that New Place where every fact I have is 1) my favorite and 2) not that deep/not already known. I WILL say I laugh at myself because Bastian was made thanks to inspiration from very specific performance of a very specific character, and that’s even where he gets Bastian’s voice from, but I’m embarrassed and also refuse to give out spoilers to what that direct inspiration is. So I sit alone and laugh and suffer.

there is different loves, there is fresh, new infatuated love, wild and all-consuming, and then there is old love, quiet and content to be left alone; i have been both! i am nothing right now.
