TW // Descriptions of gore

This whole concept centres around a genloss AU, one that’s not too far from canon but is just a little bit more disturbing.

We know that, at least with Ranboo, Sneeg and Charlie, they’re controlled by various headwear; Ranboo his mask, Charlie his headphones in Episode 3 and Sneeg his hat. With Ranboo and Charlie, it’s made clear that taking it off is what regains the consciousness of the person; however, Ranboo is warned by Hetch that if he tries to take his mask off prematurely, his “whole face comes off with it”.

(We know this doesn’t apply with Charlie or Sneeg as their headpieces are removed easily, and Sneeg’s whole hat thing is just a big exception to everything, but sssshhh just pretend. As I said, this is based on an AU).

Now, Hetch was likely saying that just to convince him not to try to take the mask off. But what if he had been serious? Consider an AU where the mask is literally surgically attached to Ranboo’s face, and all the other headpieces being used to control other cast members are exactly the same, making it incredibly difficult, or even deadly, to remove them.

Now consider a group of frantic people, afraid, panicked and angry, who are willing to harm themselves to hellish extents by removing their headset objects to regain control. Consider one person on the carousel breaking free of the control and ripping masks, earpieces or hats off of the rest of the cast in a panicked state in an attempt to save them too, or multiple people working together to remove controlling devices from another cast member who cannot do it themselves.

Thus is born a gory fanart idea of the characters having tried to rip away the thing keeping them under control, or of another character having done it for them. Here’s kind of how I imagine it would look like:

Earpieces: This is one that will work with any character, because if you look in the episodes, you will see all of them wearing obvious earpieces for communication purposes (Ranboo talked about how there was no real way to hide these earpieces, much like the cameramen in episode 2 and 3, so they’re made to seem intentional and to fit in with the storyline. So yes, they’re canon). To get something attached to the ear off wouldn’t be the worst; in fact, it would be mild in comparison to most of the other options here. Maybe ripping it out would just badly injure the ear and damage the skin, maybe the whole ear would have to come off depending on how it’s been attached (which is plausible, ears are surprisingly easy to rip off). So you could really draw any of the characters like this, with a bloody, mangled ear and clutching the remains of the earpiece in their hand (or just the whole ear itself).

Regular face mask: Ranboo, the Ghouls and Jerma (the Puzzler) all wear a mask over the lower half of their face. The Puzzler’s is technically prosthetics, but let’s assume it somehow acts in the same manner. Skin would obviously be ripped away and maybe even flesh, which could give them a half zombie-esque look with holes that expose their teeth and gums. Very grim to picture but also cool. And in Ranboo’s case, maybe he would have to cut the wires out from his neck as they could be attached there too, or down his back.

Rat Face Mask: A good three quarters of their face skinned and ripped away. Their eyes and mouth/general lower face area would be fine, but the rest… ouch. Also a zombie-esq look like the regular face mask, but more on the upper half of the face.

Showfall Media Mask: Yeahhh the employees get the worst deal out of this. Their entire face would be basically torn apart, but instead of blood, consider wires poking out of the rips in the flesh, or maybe even out of the eye sockets. I imagine you would see this after one of the cast would try to pull the mask off of an employee they encounter.

Hats: Okay, this one set up to look pretty stupid, as you would immediately imagine it taking all the hair off the top of their head, which would look ridiculous. But rather imagine wires maybe being threaded into the skull through the hat; maybe in a sewn on kind of way, maybe just with just multiple drilled holes in the head that the wires run down through. Wires would be trailing out of the head once the hat has been removed, or you would see them stitched into the skin under the hair. Blood would be soaking their hair and face, which would be pale because of the blood loss. Niki, Sneeg and Vinny apply here.

Glasses: Ethan and Charlie both have glasses, which are an easy deal, like the earpieces except better. Just ripping off skin/flesh where the glasses are attached, so the bridge of your nose and the side of your face. Painful, but won’t affect any of your necessary reflexes/senses such as hearing, sight or vision, and won’t kill you.

Headphones: As I mentioned earlier, Charlie’s headphones are removed without injury in episode 3, but ssshhh and just imagine. I would think that they would probably have wires connecting into his ears, so after they were taken off there would be loose wires poking from the ears and a lot of blood coming with it. Also probably a complete loss of hearing accompanying it, even though you can’t exactly draw that. That or both of the ears have to go.

Horns: Charlie also has his horns as The Spirit in Episode 1. This all depends on how you’d imagine them being attached to him; if you’re thinking like just fake horns on a simple band (like the actual prop used), then it would be a similar deal to the hat with the wires running into the skull along the band, most likely in a sewn style. If you like the idea more of two separate horns fully attached to his head, then just imagine they were stitched there and had to be pulled off. Yikes, poor Charlie.

You can also do combos. If a character has an earpiece and a hat, draw them as though they needed to rip both of these items off!

This is just a concept I came up with that I think would be really cool to see. No credit needed for the idea if you do take inspo from this, but do tag me in art as I love to see it!!

Also, just a little specific idea I have related to this is either Charlie in episode 3, Sneeg in episode 1 or just the carousel crew from episode 2 trying to remove Ranboo’s mask, maybe even just out of curiosity or ignorance, to horrible results. Very disturbing, but a good prompt for both fanartists and even fic writers I think

I think unsurprisingly, Mountain, Aether, and Cumulus would be the best at watching a group of kits. They would know just how to play with them and talk to them. Cumulus would teach them songs and Mountian would play tag and other games with them. And Aether is everyone's favorite story teller.

Swiss and Dew are also not terrible at it--they will let the kits get away with everything. But they love to teach them new and dangerous games. The kits love them--parents do not.

Cirrus, and Rain are bad at it. Mostly becuase they do not enjoy spending time with kits. Rain is intentionally terrible at it because he doesn't want to be asked. Cirrus just has no idea how to talk to kits. They think she's boring (she thinks they're dumb and don't understand her humor).

Bonus: Aurora, Sunshine, and Aeon have never been asked. Aeon and Aurora are too new. And ever since the incident where Sunshine lit the chapel on fire as a joke no one will trust her anywhere near a kit.

Okay so student council is winning the poll so far so here's some more info about a shared interest of a lot of them (not really delving into the yan tendencies but we'll get there I promise 😭)

4/6 of them like anime, manga, visual novels, etc: Emerson, Jace, Rayleigh, and Kendra.

Emerson secretly LOVES romance and shoujo but they're soooo embarrassed to admit it 🥹💕. Pretty open about their love for studio Ghibli though~! Some faves: anything Ghibli, Orange, Dreamin' Sun, The Ancient Magus' Bride

Rayleigh likes a wide variety of anime, sharing a bit of taste with everyone else in the group who also watches anime, but like Emerson, she has a big soft spot for romance (especially gl). One of her faves: 5 Seconds Before A Witch Falls In Love

Kendra likes ghibli pretty well, and has seen and cosplayed a lot of anime, but her enduring favorites tend to be Jun Mochizuki's work. She also likes sports anime. Some faves: The Case Study of Vanitas, Pandora Hearts; Haikyuu, Yuri on Ice, also Naruto

Jace likes thrilling, gory, combat-oriented stuff. The over-the-top fights and quippy dialogue are fun for them to watch. Some favorites: JJK, Soul Eater, Tokyo Ghoul, and some classics like Naruto and One Piece.

Part 2: Secundo prepares for his final test. As long as nothing- or no one- gets in his way.

Secundo’s entire bed was now fully covered with every book, journal, and instrument he owned regarding the craft of magic. He squinted fiercely, debating what to cull. He had no idea what the final test would be. If it was a test in the catacombs, perhaps it was a spirit communication test and he would need the pile in the upper left. If it was a test of conjuration, he would need the pile on the lower right. But what if it was both?

There was a rapping noise on the window of his cell. A small shadow moved behind the panes of bottle glass. Secundo decided to ignore it, tossing a packet of herbs from one pile to the other on his bed, thoughtfully twisting a chunk of hair. The rapping got louder.  He pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing. 

The shadow ducked out of the way as Secundo opened one of the windows outward. His brother Terzo was trapped outside. Again. Terzo had the wide feral eyes of a junkyard cat. His hair was never brushed. He squatted like a frog on the large stone windowsill. His feet were bare, his shoes tied together and hung around his neck. He never wore proper robes, preferring shorts and an unwashed tee-shirt. Nihil gave up trying to dress him respectably in robes since the boy kept injuring himself while exploring in them. Secundo looked down at the four story drop below them. “Why don’t you use the door?”

“Because I was coming from the roof,” Terzo stated. There was a copper gutter that could easily hold the tiny boy’s weight and he used it as his own personal stairwell. “There’s no Ghouls in the Roost today. I checked.”

“That’s because they went back out on tour late last night,” Secundo sighed. He stepped back and his younger brother jumped into the room. “Mater Emerita Jocasta is out again performing all summer. They'll be gone for a few weeks.” 

 “You know, I have an idea why Ghouls like birds so much,” Terzo started, his voice too loud for the space. 

Secundo frowned at the piles of things on his bed, trying to ignore him. Last year Secundo was thrilled to finally be granted a cell of his own, only to realize that the conditions included sharing it with his eleven-year old brother. Secundo had supposed Nihil was tired of chasing after him, and Secundo’s mother kept her distance from her son’s lonely half-sibling.

“Birds are free,” Terzo continued, “And Ghouls are not.”

“Ghouls are the creation of Papa Emeritus, or Mater Emerita,” Secundo explained, not looking up from his piles. “A servitor. They come here, do what they need to do, and then leave. Do you feel bad about your drawings? Wish they were free?”

“That would be nice. My drawings coming alive, talking to me.” He smiled thoughtfully. “I would set them free.”

“That’s ridiculous,” Secundo said. He remembered Sister’s compliment. A good imaginaton is the greatest skill of all… Especially one that is put to use to solve problems. That was him. If one got as whimsical as Terzo their brain would fall right out of their skull and onto the pavement.

“Primo is gone too?” Terzo attempted to pull a conversation from his brother. He flopped on his bed on the other wall, wiggling his filthy toes.

“Yes, he always travels with them.” The two half-brothers had an unspoken fascination with their twenty-four year old brother. It was perhaps because after he rejoined the Church a few short years ago the boys finally had an adult male role model with some sort of consistency and sense of responsibility. Although Secundo did not want to admit it. He was the eldest brother for longer than Primo, anyway.

Terzo did a backroll off his bed and landed on his feet. He could never sit still. His eyes glittered and a feral grin spread across his face. “You know Primo isn't a real gardener, right?”

”We’ve been over this,” Secundo sighed. “I’m not fucking interested in your theories.”

Terzo started moving from foot to foot, dancing excitedly as his brain settled into one of his inane trains of thought. “Why would she bring a gardener on tour, huh? They got some tomatoes needing tending?”

Secundo smirked, muttering, “She needs tending, but it’s probably not tomatoes.”

Terzo paused. He blinked. “So…is she more of a house plant person or…”

Secundo laughed outright. Terzo really didn’t know anything about the world, did he? The younger boy smiled weakly back, trying to connect.

Secundo glanced nervously at his watch, tapping his foot. He needed to make a decision. Just the basics then. Whatever she had planned would not be too challenging, would it?

And that willingness to die thing, that was her trying to scare him. Naturally. He was not so easily swayed.

“Where are you going?” Terzo asked carefully. 

Secundo was irritated by his constant questions, but something inside him compelled him to answer his younger brother. “Catacombs.”

“I go to the catacombs all the time. Here!” Terzo pulled a cardboard box full of paper out from under his bed, and rifled through it. He unfolded a crumpled crayon rubbing of an ancient winged skull. “They got all this kind of shit down there. Carved in the stones. See? This is a death’s head!”

“I know what a death’s head is,” Secundo replied absently, throwing as much as he could fit into an old suitcase. “And now I’m late.” He leaned on the lid, something creaking inside, and snapped it shut. 

Terzo nodded at his brother and put on a cautious smile. “Well, good luck then.”

Secundo paused, his hand on the door knob, looking into his brother’s green-grey eyes. He pulled a small smile across his face and gave him a curt nod. “….Thank you.”

Once Secundo had returned to Sister’s Office, she handed him his stack of notebooks, adding to the massive amounrs of clutter he carried in his hands. She watched him idly as he struggled to arrange it all. “Are you prepared, candidate?”

Secundo felt his knees buckle a bit and he decided it was from all the objects he was carrying. He brought his mantra into his mind’s eye, casting it across the wall. POWER. “I’m always ready, Sister.”

“Hmmph.” Sister jerked her head at Nihil, and they all walked down the hall to the Sanctum, passing under the wide doorway carved with howling wolves and the masks of ghouls. The space opened up like a the maw of a giant whale, the ceilings supported by its stretched ribs. They crossed the altarspace with the towering organ pipes and the Altarpiece in all it's glory, sealed with a silken red ribbon tied around its handles. The Altarpiece, the gateway to the Void gleamed in the half light, the carving of the ebony heart almost pulsing in it's realism. 

Secundo glanced at his father, at the glowing white eye in his head, the Infernal Eye, the Gift of the Void. He found it hard to believe that the man who appeared to be mildly half-baked most of the time was granted such a power. Briefly, he was Papa Emeritus, and had such abilities to see into the Infinite Horrors and Endless Creative Energies of the Void itself. Now he could barely remember what he had for breakfast.

One day, thought Secundo, and a surge of excitement passed through his bones. One day.

They finally stopped at the tall gates that marked the stairs down to the catacombs. Nihil opened the gate for Sister and Secundo with a creak, letting them inside. “Excellent,” Sister said. “Now lock us in.”

Nihil produced a thick chain and padlock, wrapping the chain a few times before clicking the lock. “Anything else?”

Sister squinted her eyes. “Check on us by midnight. Should be done by then.”

Nihil caught his son’s eye, nodding. He tapped his finger to his nose and attempted a friendly wink. Secundo said nothing. The tunnel before them felt deep, going down into a inky cold blackness. His equipment felt heavy. Too heavy.

POWER.

i think that jacks is really good at dealing with curses and spells, but the moment the supernatural involves creatures? yeah, uh, no thank you! he doesn’t like getting his hands dirty—plus, he can’t use his magic to control the hearts of creatures that don’t exactly have hearts. you can understand why the lack of control freaks jacks out.

so what chrysi does is she will hunt certain ghouls and the like. she ultimately likes helping people, so she goes out of her way to take care of very, very dangerous situations (and sometimes, she shows compassion towards the creature at hand, which jacks really doesn’t like, nor does he understand). the fact that she invites so many variables that are out of her control concerns jacks. ALSO, SHE HAS DEFINITELY SUMMONED A GHOST OR TWO TO HELP HER, AND JACKS SIMPLY THINKS THAT HE WOULD RATHER DIE. LIKE???? THAT’S A TOUCH IRRESPONSIBLE, ISN’T IT?

jacks isn’t very fond of the actions chrysi will take during her missions. she’s too reckless. she invites a lot of trouble into her life. (he’s concerned that one of these days, she’s going to trigger her faetelle and he’s going to have to hold her body while she starts dying). plus…. ghosts are scary… he doesn’t like not knowing what to do! he doesn’t like not having all the pieces of the puzzle!

there have been times when jacks will definitely leap forward and physically hold chrysi back from making a stupid decision. chrysi’s not very appreciative of it, and she’ll remind him he’s done stupider things (“remember when you said we needed info from the vampires’ lair and then we got no info and you got turned into a vampire? that was certainly a decision you made” “OKAY, BUT DID WE DIE? WE DIDN’T.”) going on missions was a lot better w azure, because at least azure was useful. jacks jst follows chrysi and complains, then gets jumpy and nervous.

and if they were desserts… hmmmmm, i think jacks would be an apple pie (obvi!) and chrysi…. ooohhh, good question. probably a strawberry shortcake!!!!

Rakdos Decaying Vermin drafted by me, Oct 23, 2023 (2-1)

Mike's Pauper Cube (list). 3 packs of 15, 8 drafters.

This was my first time drafting a cube in paper that wasn't one of mine!

Mike was incredibly generous to invite me, GL, CC, and DR into his home to draft a full pod of his brand new Pauper Cube (he also has a Vintage Cube). This was a good old situation of meeting someone on a Discord (because I was looking for a store we could play in one time) and meeting them in person sight unseen and hoping for the best, and it went great!

Like I expected, value seems to be the way to go in this list. I drafted an aggressive black red deck with a ton of cheap interaction that curved into some token creation and death triggers sub-themes.

My match loss was to the 3-0 Boros Blink deck, that just had so many big game cards that were generating tokens and drawing, with extra ETBs of Ephemerate and friends, there was no way to keep up. The matchup honestly felt unwinnable.

Running against the trend towards value, my favourite cards in this deck were Hissing Iguanar (red Blood Artist at home), Witty Roastmaster, and Voracious Vermin. All three played nicely with my ways to make tokens when you don't care if they live or die. What can I say? I'm a sucker for explicit synergies.

It was fun seeing that the enters tapped mana base really didn't feel punishing, and with 6 mountains, 6 swamps, 4 duals, and a Terramorphic Expanse (literally realizing right now that I think I was running 41 cards?), my mana was never awkward

The deck would've popped off with another, better sacrifice outlet. Looking at the list, that would've been either Phyrexian Ghoul or Bogardan Dragonheart, but there are other, less premium options as well—I just didn't prioritize them properly.

It was a blast to play (cube rules), and played really really well for a first draft—nothing stood out as unbalanced or broken (okay, I mean, Monarch and Initiative, but I think you know what you're getting into when you include those).

[HUGE CAVEAT ALERT: I am not sure of Mike's design goals, so this is just me providing feedback as a player, acknowledging that I have pretty specific tastes that are not universal, and that the following may not align with his goals... but I also think cube designers mostly love feedback about their cubes, right?] I think it would be interesting to see this list move more in the direction of "small game" cards (Andy Mangold has brainwashed me). That is, there are a LOT of cards that draw more cards or create tokens, and boards get pretty big, pretty fast. 2-for-1's are a huge part of Pauper, but if more of those 2-for-1's made the board (and/or hands) smaller instead of bigger, I think games would be a little more dynamic instead of the strong tendency towards big boards. I don't think there are specific cards that were culprits, it's just the overall density that creates that momentum.
