Amour-propre Effervesce | Fizz, Floral, Fandom

Suletta wouldn’t drink, but Guel Jeturk would despite, imo, probably not enjoying the taste of alcohol. However, there’s a classic cocktail that's PERFECT for that -- the Ramos Gin Fizz, which I retemplated to include both an interesting purple sweetener and several layers of floral flavors including rose, with a glorious fluffy crown worthy of the Dilanza’s feather. The floral layers and variety of aromatics feels distinctly appropriate in G Witch, especially for a character like Guel. 

However, the Ramos Gin Fizz isn’t for the Miorines of the cocktail world; it requires some careful prep, and takes a lot of upper arm strength and time shaking. So much like Guel had some... mechanical assistance imposed on him, we’re going to use a great hack established by famous cocktail bar Death & Co. We are going to use a whipped cream dispenser and force-nitro the cocktail to emulsify and foam up, without the hellish amount of shaking. However,  it’s important to follow these instructions carefully.

Note: Alternate creams/vegan foaming agents may not provide the desired effect, due to the importance of the proteins in both the cream and the egg white. If you want to make this a mocktail, you can use your favorite tea in place of gin and omit the creme de violette. 

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: A Whipped-Cream Dispenser and Nitrous Oxide cartridges(8grm). These don’t need to be industrial grade, iSi whippers -- As long as its not the style marketed as the “Easywhip” with the spout right on top, look below for an example of the shape it should be. These can be bought online, or at culinary supply stores, or your local tobacco/vape shop or adult novelty store. Please DO NOT POINT TOWARDS SELF OR OTHERS WHILE SCREWING IN THE GAS CANISTER, AND ALIGN THE THREADING ON THE CANISTER HOLDER CAREFULLY TO MINIMIZE RISK OF VENTING COLD GAS FROM AN IMPROPER PUNCTURE. 

Step 1: Place serving glass in freezer. 

Step 2. Place the following ingredients in your whipped cream dispenser. 

2 fl oz or 60ml Gin 

0.5 fl oz or 15 ml Lemon Juice

0.5 fl oz or 15 ml Lime Juice

1 Dropper Bittermens Orange Cream Citrate*

.75ml Old Forester Hummingbird Rose & Citrus Bitters [or 2 dashes preferred floral bitters]

0.33 fl oz or 10ml Creme de Violette

1 fl oz or 30ml Blueberry Puree Syrup (I used Reál) 

1 Egg White or 20ml liquid pasteurized egg white

0.75 fl oz or 22.5 ml Heavy Cream

1 drop Orange Blossom Water

1 drop Rosewater

*You can substitute 1 dash orange bitters[Angostura Orange preferable] and 3 drops vanilla extract if necessary or just omit

Have glass ready to receive. 

Add a couple ice cubes and screw on cap tightly. Take 1 8 gram nitrous oxide charger. Common brands include Whip-Its, Bestwhip, and Leland. Insert charger into holder and screw in until you hear it vent into the dispenser.  Give it a few gentle shakes. 

Add about half an ounce of chilled seltzer or soda water to the bottom of frozen glass.  Turn whip cream dispenser so spout is directly facing down and gently -- GENTLY -- press the lever to release. It should take about a minute or so to mostly fill the glass.

After filling or mostly filling the glass, let sit for 2-4 minutes, ideally in freezer. Then make small divot  in foam and slowly pour in about .5-1 ounces or so of soda water. The foam should rise and not collapse if properly made and a straw inserted should stand up straight. 

Lastly, if you desire, as a little nod to Guel’s iconic look, use an atomizer or spray bottle to spritz Peychaud’s bitters on top of the foam. Serve with a spoon to enjoy all the foam.

Distillate: For Those Who Crave Consistency

Weed is weird. Think of beer if you will. Every time you buy a certain brand of beer, it’s the same. You may end up with a can or a glass bottle or even a pint, but a Heineken tastes like a Heineken and a Miller Light tastes like a Miller Light every time. This is because making beer is really not all that different than baking. A set of inputs are added with specific ratios and measured out the same each time making a homogenous end product. Cannabis however is very different.

The humidity of the room that weed is grown in changes the quality of the end product. One cut grown from seed of Banana Punch will vary wildly from another growers cut grown from the same seed pack of Banana Punch. The differences come down to everything from natural genetic variations present in plants to environmental factors in the growing process that change the terpene or cannabinoid output or profile.

For those that crave consistency, the solutions are few. Sure you can find some hometown favourites and consistently support those vendors. But if you’re traveling or just want something different, distillate is a good option for folks who want a consistent and reliably similar experience every time.

Producing cannabis distillate involves utilizing a specialized apparatus to heat a solution to a precise temperature, enabling the vaporization of a particular compound within the solution without causing its degradation. Subsequently, the vaporized compound is efficiently condensed back into a liquid state, effectively segregating it from the other ‘undesirable’ compounds present in the original solution.

A straightforward illustration of distillation can be seen in the purification process of water. Elevating the temperature of water to 100°C (212°F) leads to the vaporization of the H2O molecules, while any unwanted impurities are left behind. Swiftly cooling the water vapour then results in the re-condensation of pure, distilled water.

Just like distilled water, distilled cannabis oil is stripped off impurities and terpenes or flavours are added back later if at all. Because of this, most distillate is pretty much the same. There are levels of quality for sure, but good distillate is good distillate.

Distillate can be used in cartridges or dabbed, but one of the best uses is baking. Not only does distillate not leave a weedy taste, but it is very potent per gram. If you’re baking with distillate and you know the THC percentage you can even figure out roughly how much THC will be in each treat you make…roughly. Be careful with at home baking math and trusting lab tests on cannabis labels.

However, it’s true that baking is one of the best uses for distillate. It also save a lot of time over making weed butter. Weed butter, while it works, is a pain in the butt to make and everyone knows how dank a pot brownie or cookie can taste when it’s made with weed butter. In addition, it can be pretty expensive to buy ounces to dump into pounds of butter. Cannabis distillate is shelf stable and lasts forever seemingly if stored correctly. All these reasons are great examples of why distillate is better than weed butter for at home cooking. The downsides are that it’s pretty sticky. Because of that it can be a bit difficult to work with. If using a bulk jar or syringe, submerging the base of the vessel in warm water can help loosen up the product for easier use. What is a vaporizer?

The vaporizer is a device that allows you to extract the active ingredients of the materials without burning them. These materials are usually dry herbs, waxes, or oils. Vaporizers were first popularized as an alternative to smoking tobacco and has now become a popular medium for consuming legal dry leaf or extract products.

Vaporizers have two ways to extract the active ingredients from the material and convert it into vapor. One is conduction: the material is heated by contacting with something very hot. The other is convection: hot air blowing through your material in order to make it hot. In either heating mode, the battery provides electricity to the heating element, which then heats the chamber or cartridge, allowing the material to be vaporized.

Compared with smoking, first of all, the irritants and harmful substances produced by vaporizing are greatly reduced, and the vapor is more pure, flavorful and healthy. Secondly, smoking will consume the material at one time, but vaporization can efficiently use the material and extend its service life, which can save a lot of money in the long run and is more affordable.

Chapter 1

It was a late November evening and the snow fell softly upon the city. The starry night sky that once shone bright and grand was smothered with dark and caliginous clouds. The routine activities that once filled the local town paused as the crepuscular sky entered. An elegant and magnificent mansion quietened by the night stood on the top of a hill. Every glorious light in the grand house was darkened, except for a single room. There stood a teenage boy with golden hair. His pale sky-blue eyes stared at himself in the mirror as he frowned at his appearance.

His usual slicked-back hair was partly tied up in a neat ponytail, and his pajamas were a deep blue that hung loosely from his body. John sighed softly as he scarcely heard a firm knock at his door. He shuffled his way towards the door and gently opened it. Outside stood his parents, who wore charming smiles on their perfect faces. However, he knew by heart they were as fake as their true personalities.

"Are you ready for bed, Johnathan?" his mother asked sweetly as John smiled back.

"Of course, Mother, I just finished washing up," John said, as his father stared with a disgusted face at his son's hair.

"What did I express about wearing a ponytail?" He said and ripped the band out of his hair.

"That if I don't like my hair, I could always get a haircut," John properly spoke as it fell slowly to rest on his shoulders. He disregarded the sore feeling of his head throbbing.

"Good, I hope you get a proper night's rest. You have a busy day tomorrow," his father said. John's parents turned around and walked off to their own bedroom.

John politely bowed to his parents and slowly closed his door. He huffed angrily and grabbed another rubber band. The blonde quickly tied up his hair, not bothering to make it neat this time. He made his way towards his dresser, searched around on the top, and promptly found a small black cartridge.

John was delighted himself for being able to carefully hide his vape from his ever-so-watching parents. It started first as a casual thing, and now the activity has instantly become his escape each day. He flicked off the lights and quietly walked out onto the balcony. John gently turned on his vape and took a deep inhale.

"Fuck yeah," John happily breathed out. He smiled slightly as he carefully watched the vapor exhale out of his mouth. He enjoyed observing the ethereal clouds of smoke dance around in the air, drifting away into the world. John felt himself finally relaxed after another long day.

John bitterly hates his life. Oh, what he would do just to finally escape it all, to finally experience his life like a normal person would. One day he'll escape, and when John finally does, he will never look back.

Ik that this really short (488 words) but I wanted to stay true to the first chapter of the original story and make both first chapters similar.

I also felt that it worked better as a first chapter.

Note that this is not the beginning of the story, this chapter takes place sometime in the middle of the story. I make it more of an introduction to the story.

Dw, all the other chapters are going to be longer as I get used to writing and work on this more.

i took a drag from my cartridge vaporizer, exhaling the cloud in a dense, swirling puff.

the ETI was confused. "Some of your kind breathe smoke?"

i nodded. "Yeah, but it doesn't do some of us well. And some of the smokes can kill you."

"It makes sense that these substances would contain things your bodies did not evolve for." the ETI glanced at me. "...are you smoking one that can kill you?"

"Nah. I quit vaping like, a year ago." I showed the ETI what it was, in the small glass tube on my battery. "Plant oil, essentially."

it seemed to nod. "You said you quit.. the ones that kill you are easy to obtain?"

"Oh, yeah. Yeah. They make it every adult's choice."

"And children don't get to have the killing stuff?" the ETI sounded hopeful.

"They find a way if they want to. Kids don't care. They all think they're invincible." i pursed my human lips. i'm kids

."What is 'vaping' specifically?" the ETI focused its form, faced me more sharply.

"Um, a form of nicotine consumption--" before it asked, i answered--"Nicotine's a strong drug that our modern products are 'microdosed' with."

"I understand." a silence. "...Why are you being sold drugs by your 'governments?'"

again, i shrugged. "Most of the countries that value personal freedoms will let you buy the stuff."

"Why are 'personal freedoms' a deciding factor?" the ETI sharpened again.

"That harbors on discussion of a lot of foreign policy. I'm not well versed enough at all."

the ETI retracted, as if to show what it'd done with its question.

there was another silence.

it spoke. asked, "So, what is the effect of what you have in your smokeable vial?"

i smirked a little. laughed out loud, because the thought of finally teaching an alien about pot was coming true.

Xain wondered into the penthouse; brow furrowed deeply as he stared at his cell phone all things that didn’t escape Calus’s attention from the kitchen.

“Everything alright?” Calus wondered, casually pouring himself a pop from the fridge.

“Huh? Oh, hi Calus…um…I’m not sure,” Xain admitted, moving his phone from in front of his face to look at Calus.

“What do you mean?” Calus prompted, turning to lean against the counter with his glass in hand.

“Well, I’ve been trying to get a hold of Chaz for a while now but he’s not answering,” Xain briefly explained.

“Humph, odd…you think he’s in trouble?” Calus asked, taking a sip of his drink.

“Maybe...” Xain tried to hide how he was feeling however his tone swiftly betrayed him.

“Let me rephrase, are you worried he’s in trouble?” Calus corrected with a knowing smirk.

“Mm, yeah….” Xain admitted, lowering his head a bit.

“Alright, where was he last?” Calus asked.

“He was living out of his car on the east side of Imp City trying to get enough money to afford a place last I checked,” Xain explained.

“Okay, it’s a good start. I’ll get Striker to meet us there,” Calus assured Xain who responded with a warm smile of gratitude.

 …

 A short time later the trio showed up at Chaz’s car which was parked in an abandoned lot on the far east side of Imp City. Striker had arrived before Xain and Calus, picked the lock and was already snooping around inside the vehicle only to emerge with a grimace of disgust on his face.

“Find anything?” Calus curiously asked with a light chuckle at Striker’s disgusted look not to mention he was brushing dirt from his clothing.

“Nothin’ of interest…just some empty take-out containers, used condoms and empty vape pen cartridges,” Striker groused gesturing to some of the aforementioned items that had fallen from Chaz’s car to the ground.

“Really?” Xain questioned, expression turning instantly to concerned confusion.

“Yeah, sorry kid. Looks like he hasn’t been here for a couple days either,” Striker apologized sincerely.

“How do you know that?” Xain wondered.

“Looks like Chaz shoves the latest of his trash onto the passenger seat before moving it to the back…trash in the passenger seat is about 3 to 4 days old by the look,” Striker informed gesturing into the vehicle at the garbage.

“I don’t understand…he doesn’t go many places…” Xain trailed off.

“Hey! Did you notice this?” Calus called from the back of Chaz’s car, gesturing to the one corner.

“What?” Striker inquired as Xain and him headed towards Calus.

“That’s a bullet hole,” Calus pointed to a hole in Chaz’s trunk then looked to Xain with a look that clearly was asking ‘was that there before’? Striker looked along the car’s side now noticing a ricochet mark on the driver side door he dropped to his knees to look under the car revealing several wires were hanging down that had been cut.

“They cut the lines, he wasn’t goin’ anywhere,” Striker revealed getting back up.

“Pictures pretty clear now,” Calus stated with a nod to Striker.

“Crimsons got him…doesn’t he?” Xain asked although he already knew the answer.

“Looks like they caught up to him,” Calus confirmed.

“Shit, well…what do we do?” Xain cursed starting to feel his chest tighten.

“We’ll get him back, chances are he’s been taken back to Greed, Crimson wouldn’t dare try anything in Imp City on Goetia territory,” Calus reassured Xain.

“Then let’s get going! Who knows what they’ve done to him by now,” Xain insisted.

Calus knew trying to convince Xain to stay behind by this point would be pointless thus he didn’t even argue.

 …

 Once in Greed Calus luckily had contacts and lots of them allowing for a swift sweep of the ring that quickly turned up gold as it were. Chaz had been taken to the docks area where he’d last been seen being loaded into one of the boat sheds although the contact couldn’t provide details on his condition nor why he was being held there however the last part didn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out considering Crimson liked dumping bodies in the lake. The trio made their way to the boat shed in question with the hopes Chaz was still breathing once more they got lucky in there was only two guards stationed out front unfortunately this didn’t bod well for Chaz’s condition. Regardless Calus had Striker stay with Xain behind another building as he simply walked blatantly up to the two sharks guarding the door who immediately brandished their pistols at him, demanding a name as well as a reason he was there. Smirking Calus swung his long muscular tail at the one effectively impaling them on his spines at the end before slinking up behind the second whose neck he promptly snapped with ease, body slumping to the ground while Calus wrenched his tail from the other with a flick to clear the blood off it. Striker chuckled as he walked with Xain over to Calus clearly having enjoyed the show.

“Show off,” Striker commented walking past the Dracony into the boat shed earning him a brief smirk from Calus.

“Chaz?” Xain called into the inky darkness of the boat shed while Calus felt the wall for a light switch.

“I can’t see dick in this place,” Striker groused opting to stand still till Calus could find the light.

“I think I found the switch,” Calus revealed.

A click radiated through the shed as light illuminated it moments later and what was revealed made Xain pale with the urge to throw up. Chaz was in the shed…tied to the counter at the far end normally reserved for flaying a fresh catch with his blood flowing in rivulets over its sides…to say the least Chaz wasn’t in good shape. Pushing past Xain’s stunned form Calus and Striker got to Chaz’s side with Striker immediately searching for a pulse while Calus cut the ropes holding Chaz’s wrists and ankles.

“He’s alive,” Striker declared upon finding a faint pulse.

“Holy fuck, alright, we gotta work fast,” Calus retorted, eyes darting around the room in search of anything he could use to staunch Chaz’s bleeding.

Spotting a bucket of old rags Calus snatched it up, passing a couple to Striker as the two of them assessed Chaz’s injuries. Chaz had been stabbed multiple times in various places then had the injuries crudely stitched back up, he also had what was undoubtably cigar burns all over him particularly on his gills, bruises were something else that littered his body indicating he’d been beaten multiple times and the worst injury was a gash on the side of his face that went exceptionally deep. Striker tried to press one of the rags to the gash however he didn’t really have a way to secure it there, both he and Calus wondered what the wound was from or for…until that is they saw a plaque set off to the side that had Chaz’s name on a bronze plate. Calus concluded they’d started removing Chaz’s jaws when something made them stop, that’s what the gash was from.

“H-He’s going to be okay…right?” Xain asked finally snapping from his stupor.

“Don’t know kid, we gotta get him outta here though,” Striker answered over his shoulder.

“Yeah, we gotta go,” Calus agreed, scooping Chaz off the counter bridal style promptly eliciting the first sign of life from the shark as he released a quiet agonized whimper.

“Stay with us kiddo,” Striker encouraged as he pulled out his cell phone.

“Where are we gonna go? He can’t go to a hospital they’ll find him,” Xain worriedly wondered.

“Don’t worry we got some place in mind,” Striker assured Xain, putting his phone to his ear.

Striker swiftly explained their situation to whomever was on the other side then hung up, moments later a portal with an illuminated purple outline appeared in the room. Calus hurried through first with Chaz in his arms as Striker followed suit along with Xain who was still uncertain what to do with himself. Xain was shocked to see Stolas waiting in a stark white room, gesturing to a large marble table in the centre that Calus rushed over to, immediately placing Chaz onto its surface. Stolas joined Calus once he closed the portal behind Xain followed by Striker although Xain simply remained where he was concern heavy in his chest, yet he didn’t want to get in the way. Stolas went to the wall of cabinets, cupboards, and drawers to gather supplies from them while Striker helped Calus strip Chaz of his torn, bloody clothing allowing for a better view of his injuries unfortunately this revealed more. Chaz’s right arm was badly broken with the bone sticking from the forearm and there was evidence he had more broken bones under the surface perhaps the cause of some of the bruising. Striker gently grabbed Chaz’s broken forearm giving it a few light prods before concluding there was only one way to do this, grabbing the lower portion he gave a swift firm yank then pressed the bone back under the skin. Chaz’s entire body jerked violently with a quiet whimpering sound as Calus held the shark down till Striker was finished, moving to the gash on Chaz’s face.

Stolas came along side the table with a cart that carried various items on its surface including stitching material. Calus firmly yet gently held Chaz’s head to the side as Stolas removed the blood-soaked rag from the gash, replacing it promptly with a clean one that had been soaked in warm water. Striker started cleaning Chaz’s other injuries while Calus and Stolas worked to clean the gash on his face although he had to hold Chaz steady when they poured alcohol over the gash to cleanse it as the shark demon jerked again except this time, he released a full out scream of pain. Inevitably Xain made his way down into the depths of the palace, pushing open the large double doors that led into the infirmary instantly seeing Chaz ahead in the middle of the room atop the treatment table. Xain grimaced at the massive, stitched gash on Chaz’s face that now was swollen with bruising around the edges making it look horrendous. Xain was just starting to take in everything when Striker strode in, jacket and hat missing from his usual attire, sleeves rolled up on his black long-sleeved shirt.

“How Ya doin’ kid?” Striker asked Xain as he walked over to check on Chaz.

“I’m fine,” Xain flatly answered returning his gaze to Chaz’s unconscious form.

With that Stolas nodded then left the duo and a few moments later Chaz fell into an uneasy sleep while Xain watched over him.

A couple days later Chaz was starting to heal leading Calus to make the decision to move Chaz from the treatment table to one of the metal frame beds and start using his abilities to speed the process. Calus slipped an arm under Chaz’s shoulders gently easing him up into a semi sitting position to begin with then slid his other arm under his knees, lifting the shark up off the treatment table as smoothly as he could manage. After down half the glass Chaz returned it to Xain who then laid him back down only to receive a bashful sort of frown as Chaz averted his gaze from the demon hybrid.

“I, I’m sorry you need to take care of me like this,” Chaz apologized in a low regretful tone.

“Huh? Don’t apologize, this isn’t your fault Chaz,” Xain insisted a little taken aback by Chaz’s apology.

“In a way it is though, it was my stupid idea that got me into this mess,” Chaz continued.

“You made a bad decision…that doesn’t mean you should die for it,” Xain persisted as his tail unconsciously moved to coil around Chaz’s.

“Still…it seems like all I’m good for is causing trouble…” Chaz trailed off.

“Enough, you’re fine and I’m not going to let anything happen to you,” Xain insisted in a firm tone as he cupped Chaz’s cheek taking the shark off guard.

“Yeah…just would like to not sleep in a bush till then,” Chaz once again partially joked with a small chuckle.

“Why would you be sleeping in a bush?” Xain wondered furrowing his brow in confusion with his back still turned to Chaz.

“I have no where else to go nor the money for a motel so it’s either my car or nothing,” Chaz explained grabbing the loose jogging pants Xain placed next to him.

“You’re assuming I’m letting you go back to living in that piece of crap you call a car,” Xain stated glancing over his shoulder with a smirk.

“What do you mean?” Chaz casually asked sliding the pants gingerly on.

“You’re coming to live with me in the penthouse and I’m currently looking for a place to buy for just us,” Xain revealed turning to face Chaz.

“What!?” Chaz exclaimed, brows arching in shocked surprise.

“Yeah, apparently letting you out of my sight is dangerous,” Xain teased with another chuckle.
