some domesticated Beasts in pareidolia... moar info below
fatfin perch:
the fatfin perch is derived from perca fluviatilis perch, and has been bred to be both larger, fatter and more docile in order to make herding, breeding and keeping them easier for sjörå. sjörå usually section off a section of a lake they inhabit and keep their perch there in order to keep them safe from other predators. and also with the help of their guard pikes...
guard pike:
derived from the northern pike, the guard pike is unmistakeable. selectively bred to be intelligent and loyal, these pikes are kept by sjörå as guarding/herding animals. every sjörå collective usually keeps a fair amount of these pikes in order to ensure the safety of their perch population.
tomteget:
a goat breed which has been bred by tomtar, its a very large animal for a goat and is used by gnomes as mounts and livestock. very robust and several other breeds derived from this one exist which have been adapted for different purposes (such as milk, meat, etc.). its possible that the idea of a "christmas goat" may stem from the tomtar's tendency to travel with these goats.
gloson:
a domesticated version of a relative of the wild boar, the gloson is both huge and striking in its appearence, fitting for the trolls. their wild equivalent is essentially exctinct and its current population are entirely kept by trolls at this point. used mostly as a guarding animal, but sometimes as livestock - it depends on the region (northern trolls tend to use them as the former, southern as the latter). humans have wrongfully interpreted their mane as "sharp" and able to be used to slice the gloson's target, but this is a misconception - while the gloson has quills, they aren't what is used for this manner of attack. instead, the trolls tend to provide them with sharp back armour if they choose to utilize their gloson for battle.

Swedish Sludge Masters GLOSON Issue Harrowing New EP, ‘Mara’
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
Tumblr media
In the summer of 2012 in Sweden, a group of individuals came together with a solitary goal in mind: to create dark music offset with the smallest glimmer of hope. Instead of being inspired by political and religious themes, the band turned to their own personal and internal wastelands to see what would manifest from their subconscious, writing within this very cruel world.
GLOSON has always represented one of the finest names in progressive sludge metal, on par with Sumac, Intronaut, and Bible Black Tyrant. The band graciously appeared on last year's Doomed & Stoned in Sweden compilation and has long been a favorite of mine, going back to the Yearwalker days.
On Friday, April 8th, the foursome from Halmstad take the leash off of this 15-minute two-tracker, 'Mara' (2019). I do believe mara is Swedish for nightmare. The band confirms this:
"The concept of our new EP 'Mara' is about our subconsciousness while being asleep; being stuck between the realm of dreams and reality. Portraying personal demons has usually been the agenda of Gloson, and the most graphic and terrifying ones occur during such states."
Tumblr media
Lyrically and musically, "Usurper" sets the mood quite effectively, enveloping the listener in the fog of somnambulance, with all the tense feelings of helplessness that accompany a bad dream (that eerie synth, just subtle enough to be sensed, is largely responsible for discomfort we feel). According to the band, this song "is about when you are the protagonist of a dream and have to wade through oceans of unreal horror that dwells within."
Some of the words remind me more of the waking nightmare this world finds itself in, where at times it feels like we've somehow been spirited away into a surreal alternate dimension where everything is rapidly digressing. "Is this the world we were given?" Gloson asks rhetorically. "Is this the world we would flee?" Certainly the answer to the first question is "yes," and increasingly many of us are giving a reluctant "yes" to the second question, too. If it's a world we no longer feel at home in, it begs a third question still: "What are you going to do to change it?"
On the flip side is "Equinox," which the band describes as a different kind of nightmare, "when you yourself are the antagonist and the chokehold of everything that is real and unreal." The last song hinted at the cultural, spiritual, and political manipulation that has us all turning against one another ("Ravens randomly strike through the shadow, 'til the end they're striking through me"). This often leads to majority populations looking for a scapegoat to their economic and social problems. I'm not sure if that's what Gloson are alluding to with a line like "the blaze of a thousand souls will purge us," but the song is nonetheless compelling.
Look for Mara on Black Lion Records this weekend, who is issuing the record on compact disc, in addition to giving it a digital release (pre-order here). In the meanwhile, Doomed & Stoned is providing you entrance into Gloson's stimulating, if disturbing, dream life.
Give ear...

Lyrics
USURPER
World embezzler The walker of voids Shed light, summoning mist Creature within
Stubbornness won't give insight Clairvoyant redeemer Inured to face thy hollow Unearth the willows in my dreams
Is this the world we were given Is this the world we would flee Ravens randomly strike through the shadow 'Til the end they're striking through me Is this the world we were given Upon this world we will see Whatever my world has forbidden Is forever what I will be
Planets align Planets align Critters lies dormant And withers in bliss
Planets align Planets align Shielding the bulwark Of realities unseen
EQUINOX
Light does seem to break these walls Seeping mist, veils of smog
Breaching the gateway Repent, repent The blaze of a thousand souls will purge us Coming salvation Repent, repent Whitening necrotic tint fulfills us
Billows of fumes, figurines appears Spiritual rape from origins unknown

Some Buzz
Hailing from Halmstad, Sweden, GLOSON was formed in the summer of 2012 by a group of individuals with a solitary goal to create dark music offset with the smallest glimmer of hope. Instead of being inspired by political or religious themes, the band turned to their own personal and internal wastelands — to see what would manifest from their subconscious, writing within this very cruel world.
Yearwalker by Gloson
Their 2014’s self-released EP, Yearwalker, was well-received by the listeners and the critics alike, and it was re-released on LP format in the following year by two labels: Catatonic State (Sweden) and Art of Propaganda (Germany). After several live performances, the debut album, Grimen, with a stronger production, mastered by Magnus Lindberg of Cult of Luna, arrived in the early-2017.
Grimen by Gloson
Now, Gloson is poised to exhibit another storm of dreary heaviness with their impending EP, 'Mara' (2019). The EP, striding into an eccentric terrain, offers a soul-stirring trip throughout its well-crafted two numbers. 'Mara" comes out this April 5th on CD (and digitally) via Black Lion Records.

Some quick fakemons. I recently saw this video of a hypotetical Scandinavia-based pokemon region and while that video had some nice fakemon concepts I felt that there were many stones left unturned so here’s some fakemons based on nordic folklore/mythology/flora and fauna.
Now have this huge block of text, also no names because I’m terrible at thinking of names
fairy+grass mushroom pokemons, based on mushroom fairy rings.
ghost+fire pokemon, based on the lantern man. Lantern men are creatures of norse folklore, who were lantern, carrying ghost creatures often seen in forest or graveyards.
Dark+fire boar pokemon, Based on the Gloson. The gloson is a folklore creature told to be a flaming boar living near graveyards or fields, with a razor-sharp ridge on its back.
Flyong+psychic raven pokemon, based on Odin’s ravens Hugin and Munin.
Ice ox pokemon, based on the musk ox.
Ghost+flying rooster pokemon, based on a kyrkogrim. In norse folklore, a kyrkogrim is an animal such as a rooster or a goat who was buried under the foundation of a new church, in order to have it protecting the church.
Electric+ice obligatory Pikachu clone, based on the lemming.
Electric goat pokemons, based on Thor’s goats.
Ghost pokemon, based on a myling. In norse folklore, a myling is the ghost of a murdered child. When it was taboo to get pregnant out of wedlock, it wasn’t uncommon for unwed parents to murder their newborns to escape the social stigma. They were told to be able to be saved either by burying them on a graveyard or by giving them a name (Which complicates this whole pokemin nickname thing I guess)
Ghost+water pokemon- based on the strandvaskare. Strandvaskare were told to be ghosts of drowned sailors who haven’t gotten buried on sacred ground.
Ghost+dark pokemon- Based on the draug, which more or less is norse mythology’s take on zombies.
Grass pokemon, based on moose+typical bog fauna.
Grass flower pokemon, based on a slipper orchid.
Grass berry pokemon, based on a cloudberry.
Water+flying pokemon, based on the atlantic puffin.
Fairy pokemon, based on vättar, small creatures from norse folklore who were told to live by human homes and either playing cruel pranks with the humans or helping them, depending on the human’s behaviour towards them.
Psychic pokemon based on Ratatosk, a squirrel who in norse mythology lived in the world tree yggdrasil and was the messenger between the dragon Nidhöggr and the eagle räsvelg.
Water+dark horse pokemon, based on bäckahästen. In norse folklore, bäckahästen was a horse who tricked people into riding it, and then throwing itself into the water, drowning everyone riding it. It was told that its back could get longer and longer as more and more people rode it, and that once one had mounted it, dismounting was impossible.
water pokemon, based on the grayling fish.
Water+dragon pokemon, based on the cryptid storsjöodjuret, living in lake storsjön in Sweden. It was told to have hatched from an egg that had been boiled for years by two witches, and once it hatched, it was long enough to wrap around the entire island and bite its own tail.
I should work on animation projects for school and here i sit writing fakemon descriptions what is my life

So I was feeling clever the other day and came up with the name Gloson (after a swedish folklore monster) for Eddies band and designed a logo for it, and then I realized there is actually a band called Gloson allready.
A Gloson (Glow/Stare sow) is a pig with shaggy fur that is razor sharp. It lives in graveyards and sharpens its hide on gravestone. Which is basically the most METAL folklore monster in existance.

REVIEW: SWEDISH SLUDGERS GLOSON EMBODY MARA ON NEW EP
Tumblr media
Halmstad, Sweden sludge post-metal band, Gloson, have released EP, Mara, which came out today (April 5), and was released via label, Black Lion Records. It’s only two tracks but at almost eight minutes each the title of EP is most justified. Gloson are Anders Persson, guitarist and vocalist; Christian Larsson, guitarist, vocalist and drums; Kristoffer Bruhn, bassist and backing vocalist and Samuel Envik, drummer. Artists they like, they find inspiring, are Neurosis, Cult Of Luna, Kongh, ISIS, Abandon, Walk Through Fire, *shels, Terra Tenebrosa, Amebix and many more. Going back, to the summer of 2012 in Sweden, the four-piece came together with one mission in mind, creating dark music with a flickering flame of light. Eschewing political and religious themes, the band turned within to their own lives and issues. First came their 2014 release, digital EP, Yearwalker. The EP was well-received, with it rereleased in a LP format come the following year by Catatonic State from Sweden and Art of Propaganda from Germany.  Then came the song writing for the debut full-length that took place. The 2017 album, Grimen, was preceded by its first single, “Cringe”, in late 2016, and proved to be many strides forward. When asked the meaning behind the title of today’s EP, Christian was able to provide the following; indeed, it eschewing political and religious themes: “A “Mara” is the mythical/folklore personification of a nightmare – hence that very word. The Swedish word for nightmare is “Mardröm”,” he said.  “And, as such, the EP deals with exactly that; nightmares.” They released the official music video for “Usurper” last Monday (March 25), everyone’s first taste of said, new EP courtesy of Black Lion Records.
youtube
Christian also did the mixing and mastering on the Mara EP, Sophy Fredriksson the artwork you see up top and Ogino Design design and layout. Opening track, “Usurper”, rings in eerily.  Then sliding and slamming in with that wall of guitar, biting bass and climatic drumming. The vocals, screaming of desolation and anger, are equally crushing.  Slow, clomping feet of the sasquatch through bog or mire.  Then the menacingly cleaner vocal emphasis lets you focus on the profound, philosophical lyrics of, “Is this the world we were given, is this the world we would flee/Ravens randomly strike through the shadow, ‘til the end they’re striking through me/Is this the world we were given, upon this world we will see/Whatever my world has forbidden, is forever what I will be.” Then comes the vocal fadeout as the guitar, sedate at first, builds up before going headlong back into that crushing instrumentation.  It then searches for new territory to dominate, vocals a spoken word intermission, like a feral dog or lone wolf.  The guitar becomes higher register, rather than grinding low in the dirt, like the height of howling despair.  The closing minute or so ups the ante in that respect.  The crashing drum is given a little room to breathe, brooding and moody on those toms.  The song fades into jarring perpetuity.  Indeed, out onwards into space like the aforementioned visuals.  A signal sent into posterity. Closing track, “Equinox”, drags descending and despondently.  Doomy. Mighty in its victory but a secret loser.  The guitars then spaced out as the vocal creepily gets under your skin.  Then the vocals full on bellow, hoarse and powerful. The guitars ring out and reverberate, rattling in the skull.  Contrast of spaced out guitar atmospherics and chugging elsewhere arresting and multifaceted. A middle section searches elsewhere as lead guitar, melodic and pained, finds that light at the end of the tunnel that couldn’t be found elsewhere.  This drama’s ramped up as the drums hit with cacophony and urgency, cymbals ringing out. This repeats as frustration builds and tears swell.  Though, however, light is sought and darkness seems extinguished.  At least for a little while.   Solace is wanted desperately, but intense guitar takes hold and darkness is actually only ever really around the corner. “Cascade of shifting lights and colours, all of a sudden, vanished” confirming this, darkness subsuming light and positivity.  The arrangement is pared back, quiet noodling on the guitar like some sort of low level anxiety.  Building up to breakdown, feeling and hearing nothing.  Release through death, suicide or waking from a seeming living nightmare? It’s really difficult to pick one track from these two we have, here.  One is impossibly dark and the other equally so, just with a seeming, if not happy, but better resolution.  What you’ve basically got is a story told by two equally sizeable tracks, one act one and the other act two.  “Usurper” is really one to pour over lyrically, so much thought crammed in.  “Equinox”, is equally weighty and profound, just in less words.  Basically, you can’t have one without the sequel other. Gloson are something to behold, something to shake you from your reverie of complacency when contending with most of the rubbish you come across in today’s musical mess.  It’s progressive, it tells a story.  However, both tracks are self-contained enough to stand on their own. It’s that one’s The Hobbit and the other is The Lord Of The Rings.  It would feel wrong to have an overall preference choosing one.  Gloson’s Mara EP can be bought on iTunes, here. Also visit their Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes and website pages to keep tabs on Gloson.
