Lovely art as always my friend <3
I like the green/orange dichotomy and Markus is extra charming in this one, makes me smile! And Connor looks so cute and snazzy in his coat :)))
(btw for future reference, he wears his white shirt at all times, Nines is the one who wears black turtlenecks)
I’m sorry you couldn’t enjoy the fluff because of the trust issues my writing gave you, that’s really tragic
Chapter 57 of @lost-tanuki's Good Morning, Lieutenant
A super lovely read, though I did not trust the good things going their way for one single second- a side effect of your writing I'll bet (can't believe they got half an actual break though!! And hopefully more to come in at least a little of the next chapter!)

I wish I could've gotten the cutscene to work so that Starlo could talk while leaving, but I'm happy with how I've got it so far. I'm hoping with this beginning understanding of gml I can do something really cool with Undertale/UTY mods, and maybe do other stuff with gamemaker in the future.
#undertale#undertale yellow#uty#modding#happy father's day to all those “starlo is clover's father” enjoyers out there#I don't want to make promises over future projects just in case I can't see them through#but I'm really excited for some ideas I have

So this is a very silly question but I am actually pretty new to greek mythology and most of my exposure to greek mythology has been youtubers (besides a certain popular retelling and also a certain popular musical) and as much as I like them most of the time they sort of present the myths in a comedic way and it is not particularly accurate like the Iliad video made by Overly Sarcastic Production they.....they did patroclus dirty😭 they basically said he "died in 5 mins after going to the battlefield"Which is certainly not true like ofc he fought and there were like fun moments when he fought like how he made cebriones' eyes pop out how he just fucking pulled out the spear from his body when euphorbus stabbed him and his speech to hector is *chef kiss* (excuse me for getting so defensive over patroclus). I guess they needed to keep the video short but they did my guy dirty😭😭😭😭😭. So yeah this is also a problem with youtubers which makes them unreliable because they really cant get into too much depth and miss out the fun stuff.
But yes i just wanna ask where shall i start. There is so much to explore and I want to explore but the community can get very alienating because they have the tendency to shame others for not knowing something or the other but I am still curious and I love the fact that there is so much to know everyday
Thanks for the question. <3
If I had a coin for every time people missed the point of Patroclus' character, I'd be rich.
Ok, I will recommend good sites for information, books to read, and YouTube channels about ancient Greek mythology that I think are good for beginners.
1. Good information site that will tell you whether it is Greek or Roman and also the author. You're better off using this instead of Wikipedia
● https://www.theoi.com/

*There is all sorts of information about myths, gods, heroes, and information on ancient texts and where they are available to read.

2. Channel for Greek literature, especially classics that explain in detail about The Iliad and The Odyssey
●https:youtube.com@moanincsi=pLclZBSK2Q6HtWvr

*As much as I love The Iliad and The Odyssey, they are difficult reads and can be boring, especially for new readers. However, if you want to be familiar with major myths and understand how ancient people honored their dead and gods, you have to read them. :)
The best translation is by Robert Fagles

Hi! If you’re here you’re probably new and don’t know much about me! My name is Ambs and I write stories over on AO3 and more recently over here. I’m a cat mom, a thrifter and a gardener, as well as a freak with over 800 hours logged in BG3 (yes I have a job and a partner… I’m not sure either).
I write for fun, not for an income or discourse, so feel free to send me thoughts but please be nice 🧡 to me and to each other. TERFs, homophobes, racists and other losers are not welcome here. Ever! 😌
asks & DMs are always welcome, but do not DM me unless you are 18+ (I am 25!)

Series: The Stars Aligned
Luna x Astarion
artwork (middle) by @/mekanikerik 🧡
Goodnight, My Love
First person, female Tav (wizard, high elf) x Astarion
Fic that takes place during the game; essentially a character study on how things might look if Tav had an actual backstory and actual feelings. This fic deals with a lot of trauma and does not gloss over Astarion’s feelings about sex after the confession in act 2, so I would read with caution if that’s a hard topic for you but for me as a survivor it’s been very healing to write.
This fic is my first re-entry into writing since college and you can definitely tell I was finding the voice/swing of things in the first bunch of chapters, but I’m quite fond of how it is now and I have a lot more planned for my BloodMoon babes 🤍
Luna lore & character photos can be found under #my ocs: luna
Star-Crossed
A companion piece I wrote for GML that covers several different chapters from Astarion’s POV leading up to the act 2 confession. Both fics include chapter guides on when I would recommend reading this one, but this fic can be read as a stand-alone or doesn’t have to be read at all to understand GML.
Could also start with this fic and then jump straight to the confession chapter if you want to skip my world-building stuff, I won’t judge 😝
Dealbreaker
Willow x Ascended Astarion
Third person alternating POV, female Tav (bard, human) x Ascended! Astarion
This fic takes place a few months post-game, after Willow originally broke up with Astarion post-ritual not wanting to become a vampire spawn. Obviously they reunite, and they both want each other but have to sort out what that means for their own individual goals/desires post-tadpole. Mind the tags on AO3.
Willow lore & character photos can be found under #my ocs: willow
moodboard for the first date chapters | moodboard for the party chapters
One-Shots & Short Stories
Hospitality
Tumblr | AO3
Gale/Shadowheart smutty short story based off of the two of them going home together after a party in Dealbreaker. Canon to the Dealbreaker series but meant to be a standalone piece.
Shiver
Tumblr | AO3
Willow(F Tav)/Astarion smutty short story I wrote for Fall in Faerûn that takes place in act 3, pre-Dealbreaker and pre-ascension. Sharing clothes, blood drinking, tent sex ❤️ Canon to the Dealbreaker series but meant to be a standalone piece.
Relief
Tumblr | AO3
Gale/F Tav gift one-shot I wrote for a Valentine's Day exchange for @/wickedwitchofthewilds featuring their Draconic sorcerer Tav. Gale plans a romantic and relaxing night at his tower in Waterdeep to show his appreciation for his lover. Praise, domestic fluff, comfort.
Mi(n)sc
ko-fi (in case anyone ever wants to support me by buying a coffee but no pressure I just write stuff for fun and love u either way)
twitter is ambs_thebard - I made it just to follow bg3 artists but I kinda don’t use it rn but I maybe will! who knows!
My profile icon is a gift from the incredible amazing wonderful mekanikerik here on tumblr ♡

Haha, thank you very much for sharing! The chef’s kiss part definitely put a smile on my face :)
If u read any significant amount of Dbh angst Fics including Connor (this one is AMAZING and I’m still reading this magnificent beast, sending @lost-tanuki kisses) then u should know that I often act like Connor in my day to day life minus the trauma and general fighting kickassery. Idk if that’s a theme with us lovers of Connor. Literally relate so hard for no reason (especially the canon guy) maybe cause I’m an awkward little shrimp but I will gladly tell u how great this Fic is HIGHLY recommend and in this essay I will
Btw if the author reads this then know that I will randomly chef’s kiss the air when reading your fic for the pure GENIUS so if I do that and embarrass myself in public it’s your fault

I remember Comyet once compared multiverse with HTML and CSS. I actually like this comparison cause it fits pretty well but one thing just came in my mind.
Undertale was made with GML and this language uses OOP. I don't know anything about this language and game programming in general but I think that they probably use classes for some stuff. And classes might have hierarchy.
For example multiverse might be base class and undertale might be child class that has 2 child classes like underfell and underswap (for example) and they also might have 2 child classes like swapfell and fellswap (hope that you got the point) and almost all aus might have some kind of connections like this.
#utmv#should I tag aus I mentioned?#does anyone actually understand what I'm talking about?#if someone understand it then tell me please what you think about this#I need to sleep but my brain gives me random thoughts haha#GTsaysstuff

Codetober Day #2
2. What programming languages do you know?
Depends on how we wanna define "know" but here are the ones I at least know the basics of:
-Python - my very first coding class was in this, then I proceeded to not use it again for a long time until recently when I tried my hand at writing a Discord bot for Pathfinder/DnD 3.5 -Perl - Please do not ask me to write anything in this. I did one semester and proceeded to never use it again. -MIPS - same as Perl -C++ - I'm not great with this one but my first college decided this was a great place to go once we learned Python. I hadn't used it in a long time unfortunately, till I tried to pick up Unreal Engine -Java - After leaving college #1 and a bit of community college, I first learned Java. This is what I mainly use in my 9-5 work since all of my corporate positions have required it, along with... -SQL - I picked this up in college as well and while I went a pretty long time after graduating without using it, I DO know how to do some scripting and queries. -Javascript - I didn't use this much initially until my first big boy job changed my role to that of a full-stack developer as opposed to a software developer. -C# - Aside from a single semester in college, I actually didn't use this all that much till my most recent job. They are moving away from it and towards Java, so this works out. I also used this to try to learn programming in Unity. Outside of the professional stuff... -LUA - I used to be a HUGE WoW fan and stopped playing around Legion. Before that, I aspired to write add-ons for the game and found out this was the scripting language for it. -GML - Aka "GameMaker Language," I tried my hand at this engine as well when I was bouncing around trying to see which engine was a good fit.

Hi, I saw your undertale yellow mod posts and they look really good! What resources would you recommend to learn how to do that? I've seen some guides on how to do things like edit sprites, but nothing like designing/changing cutscenes and other more indepth stuff.
first off thank you! :D
learning this isn't a staightforward process unfortunately. there are many things that go into it. i'm not an expert at ALL but as someone deep in the pit of trying to figure this out, here's some stuff i'd recommend:
learn the basics of coding and GML. i used this channel, they have plenty more videos outside that playlist as well. gamemaker is a free download to follow along
look at the code for things similar to what you want to do, and try to understand how it runs, what each part does. you might not understand specific functions, or loops, or things like that - so google incessantly, or check the code for custom-made functions. you don't need to get absolutely everything, though, if something seems real complicated/confusing and isn't relevant to your goal at the moment.
attempt doing something yourself. unless you're confident already, your best bet here is to copy-paste from other similar things in the code and change it to fit the specifics of your scene.
it will probably (definitely) not work at first! that's okay. you can try scrutinizing and changing things about it yourself till it works, or ask for help online if you're really stumped, which will probably be more often than you'd like. (there are subreddits and probably discord servers for undertale modding, plus forums for gamemaker itself)
so yeah, be patient, start with fairly simple things, celebrate the small stuff, and ask lots of questions! with my very limited knowledge i might even be able to answer some things if you're stuck :0
stay determined, coding is a special kind of hell but it's worth it

Hello Tanuki! I just wanted to take the time to tell you how much I'm envoying reading GM,L right now. I've discovered it last week and I'm only halfway through but I have such a hard time putting it down because your writing is just that good! I was so intrigued when I read all the tags and I was absolutely hooked when I read the first chapter (that whole override scene with Amanda gave me literal chills and I my heart was beating so fast!)
I honestly think it's the best characterization of Connor's emotional distress and trauma that I've ever read and I'm being 100% serious. Healing is never a stable process and having bad days is part of the journey, and I'm so glad to see your writing reflect every aspect of that. I'm especially enjoying the realistic elements of Connor's relationship with everyone: it's so nice seing him open up to Hank, Markus, Nines and Josh, but I like that he has a hard time with other characters and that not everything is going smoothly with the others (such as North and Simon, for example). It's incredible how much love I can feel into your writing; it only shows that you care about Connor a lot and you've absolutely nailed his personality. Every chapter is an absolute pleasure to read!
I also like how you depicted Markus. I feel like he's not an easy character to write because, in the games, he feels like this perfect pacifist leader that always keeps a cool head and doesn't make mistakes, but the way you chose to show his flaws and how he deals with grief and guilt is incredibly fascinating. Again, you've completely nailed his personality, and his interactions with Connor feel so natural that I can hear their voices inside my head!
Nines is also super interesting: I don't know what I was expecting exactly, but I feel like the fandom likes to depict him as more of a heartless "machine", so it was very refreshing to see his sibling dynamic evolve with Connor throughout the story! I've grown to care so much for him that I always get excited when he's present in a chapter. You've taken what little information the game gives us about the RK900 and made something unique and beautiful with it: that's how talented you are!
I feel like there's a lot of other good things I want to say about your story, but I'll comment the rest on ao3 directly! I still have a lot left to read thankfully (I really don't want this adventure to end), but I wanted to thank you for sharing this fic with us readers. I can't even find the right words to tell you how much I'm enjoying it, so thank you for taking the time to write it and post it on ao3.
I'm really excited about what's going to happen next, so I'm gonna go back to reading it now! I hope you're doing well ❤️
Hi pumpkin, thank you very much for sending me this ask. It was wonderful to read it. And thank you for all the comments you've been leaving on GM,L! I'm sorry I'm not answering, but know that I read them as they show up in my inbox and that I really appreciate that you're leaving them as you read.
I hope that you will continue to enjoy my depiction of these great characters and their relationships. GM,L really was a labor of love, and I'm always very happy to hear that a reader loves it as much as I do. I'm looking forward to when I'll be able to take up writing again like I used to write before.
Have a nice day :)

Picture of Thom listening in front of the Neve console.
I'm also not sure if this is the other Nigel control room at his place, the one we haven't seen, or another studio entirely. The gear in the back is a lot of standard stuff we've seen from Nigel/Thom/Radiohead before, plus some other things from a lot of the same companies from Nigel's now well-known In Rainbows / Venice Biennale / From the Basement II rig:
SSL G-Comp, Focusrite Two-Dual preamps, Focusrite ISA-430 MKII, Ampex 351 preamps, Pultec EQP-1A3, Pultec EQP1A (2), rackmount Sansamp, GML 8200, Summit EQF-100, Summit EQP-200B, UREI LA-4 (2), Neve 83085 modules (2), Empirical Labs Distressors (2), Manley ELOP, Retro 176, UREI 1176s, DBX 165 w/o the Peak Stop knob or a DBX 162, two DBX 165As, Teletronix LA-2A (2). Pro Tools HDX rig to the left.
I will look into some of the stuff I missed and is thus far hard to see.
A lot of stuff. If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say this is Nigel's place. That's mostly based on the presence of the Sansamp, Focusrite and Summit stuff - just seems like a particular signature of whatever taste in gear he might have. It could also be Jonny or Thom's place!
(Also, note to The King of Gear guy: before you steal this information as your own, please give some credit to the source.)

Nearing Completion:
20/04/2025
The project is nearing it's completion. That is an undoubt-able fact at this point. With only 5 main things left to do (All either incredibly easy, or have the foundations laid out already), I have some words to say about this project.
Nearing Completion:
One thing I did not mention about my last project, was that I mostly finished it 2 weeks before the due date. I still had a lot of stuff I needed to add (The sound and crediting being one of them), but the actual bulk and polish of the project was completed.
Now that the sound is done (And it is done as promised), I only have a few things that I set myself out originally left to do:
Text Chat (Easy Implementation) Introductory Video (Actually Time Consuming) Lobby Settings (Systems Already Exist) User Testing (Slightly Annoying To Organise) Promotional Materials (Easiest Thing Here)
I can get the bulk of these done in a day or two. My problem is not actually making these. It's that I am 4 weeks away from submission. (Granted, the 4th is just one day).
For the past while, my objective is just adding effects and fixing all issues that I come across. I am now at the point where I am getting tired of doing menial tasks for this project. Luckily, the very last things that I do will be more interesting. But for now, I feel almost complete with this game.
There is the obvious problem that this game has not had as much testing as I hoped to do. I was going to make a post and set up some small events to get people to actually test the thing, but most of those did not go ahead. Getting willing (Unbiased) people to all play a game together at the same time without issues is almost impossible.
I've liked to be as independent as possible throughout this project. Only asking help from people when issues with college systems happen, rather than game issues themselves. I have done the programming off of knowledge and the GML Manual, art by myself in Paint.net, and Music alone in Soundtrap. The one thing I cannot do myself however, is user testing. I am the developer, I cannot give a fresh, unbiased, new look on something that I made. That would defeat the point of user testing. Getting other people to help though, is a challenge.
Fortunately, I am gathering small amounts of user data from what I have managed to set up, but it isn't very useful for people to try a PVP game by themselves. I can't even jump in to do so, because my interference would cause issues with the experience.

Which Game Engine is Best for Beginners?

If you have a question like “Which Game Engine is Best for Beginners?” then this article is for you. When starting out in game development, choosing the right game engine can be daunting. With so many options available, it's important to find one that's beginner-friendly and suits your needs. In this guide, we'll explore some of the best game engines for beginners and help you make an informed decision.
What is a Game Engine?
Imagine you’re building a house. You need tools like hammers and saws to help you make it. Well, a game engine is like those tools but for making video games instead of houses. So, what is a game engine? It’s a special software that game makers use to create video games. Think of it as a big box filled with all the stuff you need to build a game. With a game engine, developers don’t have to start from scratch every time they want to make a game. They can use the engine’s tools to save time and make their games faster. We can break down the components of a game engine into several key elements: Rendering Engine: Responsible for generating the visuals that you see on your screen, including graphics, textures, and special effects. Physics Engine: Manages the laws of physics within the game world, dictating how objects interact with each other and respond to external forces. Audio Engine: Handles the creation and playback of sound effects, music, and dialogue, enhancing the immersive experience for players. Scripting Engine: Allows developers to write custom scripts and code to control various aspects of the game, such as character behavior and game logic. We have an full article about Game Engine, click here to view.
Best Game Engines for Beginners
Unity Unity is often recommended for beginners due to its user-friendly interface and extensive documentation. It supports both 2D and 3D game development and offers a wide range of tutorials and resources for newcomers. Ease of Use: Unity's intuitive interface makes it easy for beginners to get started without prior programming knowledge. Community Support: With a large and active community, you'll never be far from help and advice when you need it. Cross-Platform Development: Unity allows you to publish your games on multiple platforms, including PC, mobile, and consoles. Godot Engine Godot Engine is another popular choice for beginners, especially those looking for a free and open-source option. It boasts a visual scripting system that simplifies game development for newcomers. Free and Open-Source: Godot Engine is completely free to use and is supported by a dedicated community of developers.Visual Scripting: The engine's visual scripting system, known as GDScript, allows beginners to create games without writing a single line of code. Flexibility: Godot Engine is highly customizable, allowing you to create games of any genre or style. GameMaker Studio GameMaker Studio is widely regarded as one of the best game engines for beginners due to its drag-and-drop interface and easy-to-learn scripting language. Drag-and-Drop Interface: GameMaker Studio's intuitive interface allows you to create games by simply dragging and dropping elements onto the screen. GML Scripting: For those who want to delve deeper into game development, GameMaker Studio offers its own scripting language called GML, which is easy to learn for beginners. Cross-Platform Publishing: Like Unity, GameMaker Studio supports cross-platform publishing, making it easy to deploy your games to various platforms. Construct Construct is a game engine designed specifically for beginners and non-programmers. It features a visual interface that allows you to create games using a simple event-based system. No Coding Required: Construct's event-based system eliminates the need for programming, making it ideal for beginners who want to focus on game design. these notes suck. you people would be NOWHERE without XML. "oh it's just like json" do you people only know one markup language??? seriously???
XML is a metalanguage. even HTML was based on XML, although they're not strictly compatible. XML is still at the heart of the internet, though. here are just some of the things XML is used for:
Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files are all XML. Many of their competitors, including OpenOffice/LibreOffice, also use XML.
SVG, by far the most popular vector image format, is based on XML. It's used all over the internet for logos and such.
RSS and Atom, which allow you to view feeds of content from almost anywhere on the web.
Multiple ebook formats, including epub.
GML and KML, used for map data in applications like Google Maps and Google Earth.
I can only imagine these people's only exposure to XML is Ajax, where XML is used instead of the more common JSON. but let me be clear, Ajax is for JavaScript, and JSON is the official markup language used to serialize data in JavaScript. so obviously it'd make more sense to use it in that one specific case. but JSON just can't do what XML can across its wide variety of applications- and I haven't even gotten into the more technical stuff like SOAP, or the vast number of industry-specific XML formats for data concerning healthcare, finance, and even fucking beer brewing. XML will still be around after you die.
what the fuck is an XML bitch I'll kill you

TNKT!! I just recently reread your good morning lieutenant fic and instead of commenting there again, I thought I’d appreciate you here!
I downloaded the entire fic to my phone so I could read it offline while away from home lol — THATS how insanely invested I was in the story despite having read it a year prior. I just wanted to send an appreciative message for your talent! because WOW.
your characterization of so many characters was done SO well that they have intertwined with my perception of what’s canon. (I was talking about the game with a friend and mentioned things in your fic— BY ACCIDENT. just because your story was so solid and impactful that I somehow remembered it as part of the game)
YOU BROKE MY HEART WITH GML but I loved every second of it
I’ll stop here so I don’t ramble on BUT THANK YOU, it was a great read :)
Hi pumpkin! This is such a nice ask, thank you for telling me all of this. I'm obviously flattered that my fic has melded with canon in your brain :D
I can't tell if you friend has played the game or not, but if they haven't and they try it one day, they're going to be one confused player. ("Wait, weren't all these androids supposed to be much gayer?" Well, they are in our hearts, my friend.)
I'm glad GM,L is on your phone for you to enjoy at any moment! And I am always down to break hearts repeatedly ;)
