You know what? I’m honestly surprised there isn’t (as far as I’m aware of) a ROTTMNT 2012 crossover that takes place immediately after the Rise Boys just after defeating the Shredder and losing their Karai and through some accident one way or another they end up in the 2012 TMNT universe

But here’s the kicker: instead of usually running into the 2012 TMNT or their Kraang they run into Karai and her foot soldiers (somewhere after she takes lead of the foot clan) and being the morally-grey and fresh-out-of-losing-their-Karai trauma turtles they are they immediately attach onto her like children lost in a store

fucking losing my mind over the angst potential of vegeta and goku being literally the only sayians left and finding a deep comfort in each other despite their initial hatred. how they realize they are all that remains of their culture and ancestry, and no matter how much they oppose will always, always be drawn together because who else is left for them? who else understands the struggle of being the lone survivors of their race, a race of warriors wiped out in a single blow and the two of them, despite everything, and all odds, are the only ones left? of course they stay together despite their differences. they are all they have left.

the hell of vegeta swearing to never fight again is that he actually follows through, at least in the beginning.

there are seven years between cell and buu. in every version of the media i’ve gone through--english manga, uncut dub, uncut jp, kai dub--bulma says that vegeta has trained the last five years before the tournament. which can only mean that there was a two year gap right after the cell games where he didn’t train at all.

and like. can you really blame him. his purpose in life has been cut out from under him not once but twice, first by goku attaining super saiyan and avenging their people by killing freeza, and then by goku’s decision to stay dead and deny him the opportunity to surpass him. his strength has proven insufficient time and again no matter how hard he works, overshadowed by a boy half his age. his pride hinges on both of those things and even before that was mercilessly trampled on. he dies on namek crying at the feet of both of his bitterest enemies, begging one to kill the other for his sake, after being thoroughly thrashed in front of an audience of people weaker than him (no basia, i won’t get over this). he has no people. no planet. no purpose, power, or pride. i really do think the only things keeping him going by this point are inertia and spite.

what he does have is has seven years to gnaw on a question that will not let him rest. why is goku so much stronger than he is, being what he is? why is he so inadequate? almost without doubt, this is the absolute nadir of vegeta’s existence: at least, the nadir for the man he thinks he has to be, or can’t reconcile not being. if he has nothing, if the last things tethering him to his supposed innate nature (to borrow a turn of phrase from @kanthia, shameless plug,) are torn away from him, what is left for him to do but accept defeat and submit to change?

what he doesn’t know yet is that that’s okay. he doesn’t know yet, but the seven years that goku is no longer a presence in his life is perhaps the best thing goku could have possibly given him. there’s space for new things to grow where his animosity and aggression burned holes in him. even if vegeta is still focused on nursing the embers of that blaze and ignoring the encroaching growth as hard as he can (bulma mentions to gohan that he’s dead set on making trunks stronger than him, and why would he care about that goal specifically otherwise), he is still beginning to care about things that the old him wouldn’t.

and then.

and then all of a sudden, goku is back in the picture. there is now a window, fleeting as it may be, for vegeta to get some answers he probably thought he’d never get. there is now the terrible possibility that he can put things ‘right’. and goku’s willing to let him take that shot and get those answers, right up until the whole business surrounding buu disrupts everything and then he isn’t anymore.

because the thing is, they were scheduled to fight each other before anybody else. vegeta was not supposed to see the gap between him and goku until he was experiencing it for himself, and then his only recourse would be to demand answers from goku--who would surely give them, to the best of his ability!--or to come to his own conclusions and act from there. instead, he's given time to realize that he’s still inferior, he still doesn’t understand why, and most importantly that babidi is an option. there is a way, at the cost of his will.

submitting to babidi to force goku’s hand and close the gap is the act of a man who knows that he is running out of time. vegeta’s pride would not possibly have allowed this unless he was so desperate for closure that he couldn’t see another way. for ten years he’s been trying to rebuild a sandcastle below the high tide line, and it’s not that he’s too stupid to move farther up so he isn’t freshly shattered at every pass--it’s just that trying to power through in the face of futility is literally all that he knows to do. he has been coming apart, stitch by stitch, his worldview and his preconceptions of destiny and self dissolving under his feet in slow motion ever since he met goku. this is the last chance he has, and he knows it. he knows he’s not going to see goku in the afterlife, even before he asks piccolo.

what the fuck else was he supposed to do?

the beauty of his sacrifice is that he still has the mark of evil on his forehead when he dies, even though he’s bucked babidi’s mind control by that point. he chooses to symbolically and very literally raze his old self to the ground for the sake of all that his new self cares for. WHICH IS WHY, his coming back to life actually narratively works for his character: new growth roots in ashes, phoenixes and sapling trees both.

Surely him? He looked strong and big enough. Hmm…Though on its own that did not indicate any real strength that beorc could possess. This he knew. After all, Altina had not the biggest nor tallest of beorc, yet her might and use of blades had been enough to match his.

Still, Dheginsea wonders if that man could really survive a proper blow from him without being inches away from death.

fresh off the tail of an axe class, morion decides to practice his axe throwing (running a few rounds with the students tends to remind him of things he's been slacking on). he's relegated to using tiny training axes instead of the hulking mass of metal that his tomahawk is, but he's training more for the accuracy anyways.

he starts from a standard distance between himself and the dummy targets---ten paces, just the bare minimum for range training. a few satisfactory tosses has him step back a few paces, then a few paces more; there comes a point where he's way too out of range for it to be reasonable, but that's not stopping him.

with a particularly good throw and an impeccable battle roar for good measure, morion throws a training axe from almost outside of the training grounds. his aim is true but his strength was excessive; as a result, the axe punctures through the dummy and continues onward until it hits the stone wall backing the targets. oops.

scratching his head, morion returns to collect his axes from various parts of the ground---some in the dirt, some in the dummy, and the recent one that cracked against the wall. this was nice and all, but it was also somewhat boring. stationary dummies were easy to hit. it would be nicer to practice against something that actually moved.

and it's when he has that thought that morion picks up on a feeling of being watched. a quick scan around the training grounds shows him an older-looking man---perhaps around his age?---watching him from a place he hadn't noticed earlier. the man has a spectacular mustache, pointed ears, and a... tattoo? certainly nothing like the people he's seen in brodia... or anywhere else, for that matter. with how stocky he looks, surely that guy has some strength to back up the style of that 'stache.

"hey, you! over there!" morion calls with a brilliant yet challenging smirk. "i see you watchin' me. why don't ya come on down and help me out with some trainin'? i think it'd do us both some good!"

Dunno if the monologue makes any sense. To me it does but english isn't my first language.

They may start out with a more distanced mentor/mentee relationship but with more time passing it shifts more into a father/daughter dynamic. They both struggle a lot with that shift, as both have quite a lot of baggage around familial relations (Alucard loosing his cubs before they could even come close to the age that Seras is and Seras loosing her parents when she was a mere cub herself) but once they figure out how manage this new terrain they both start to heal together.

And here it is! The most iconic weapon of Journey to the West! Sun Wukong's weight and length shifting magical rod!

I didn't know the details like the golden hoops on both ends, or that it was made of iron, but nonetheless it is a very fitting weapon for Sun Wukong, and for his building style in combat.

He learned shapeshifting, the taoist arts of transformation, and the cloud somersault, all of these point to a fighting style very reliant on quick thinking, and flexibility. Sun Wukong needs to be fast, flexible, and have the element of surprise to win his upcoming (I feel in my heart these are coming very soon) battles. So he needed a weapon that reflected that, not something that could hinder his movements like the scimitar, or something that can only do most damage with one end like the fork or the halberd.

What Sun Wukong needed was something that could server as an extra limb for his body, something that he could use with his transformations on the go, and most importantly; according to his words, something that had sufficient weight.

And what is more fitting for a monkey than a heavy stick to hit people with?
