(fair warning: none of this actually happened! to my knowledge there was never a revolution in norway, but i came up with the plot so long ago that it feels weird to change it skjghfds)

SO !! time to rant for an insanely long time about az, conner, and kyösti!

Conner Elo grows up in the countryside of Sweden in a tiny peasant family. his dad's in Norway, a spy leading the revolution, but he spends his early years in the field working with his parents and sisters. All things considered, it's a fairly peaceful childhood; he likes his farm, likes his family, and likes getting letters from his father about the revolution. (He doesn't understand what it's about yet - "forced land acquisition" isn't something he understands.)

The peace doesn't last, though.

When he's seven, he goes to train with his father. He's excited, of course, but when he gets there, his father is missing, presumed dead - and Conner is achingly alone. He joins the revolution, ghosts around as a spy trying to copy his dad. He does pretty well, all things considered. Moves up the ranks quickly.

He meets Aziel Lundkvist when he's eight and she's nine (two and a half months older than him). She's the Queen's spy, a mirror of him - they fight, and he loses, and they become friends. Fuck the revolution, fuck the queen; she brings him out of his misery, understands him in a way nobody else can.

They're friends. Still fight, of course - can't really avoid that part of the whole "war" thing - but they're evenly p They don't travel together, but they always end up in the same places; they're soulmates, or at least as close as you can get. The relationship shifts into something romantic, but they act the same as always. It barely makes a difference.

And then comes the first ending: Conner dies when he's nineteen to poison. He dies in Az's arms, in the midst of a blizzard they hadn't been able to escape. And to poison. He's honestly a little embarrassed about that.

And then, after that, the second beginning: Conner is born again. Reincarnated in August in the south of America, with a father and a brother who love him very much. He remembers all of it, of course - he's too stubborn to forget.

Also: he's Conner. He doesn't hide the fact that he's reincarnated for a second. He knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that Az is here with him, somewhere. He tells his dad as a child. His dad doesn't quite believe him until at one point he just.. does, after years of Conner referencing a life with too much detail and too consistently to be made up. (Plus, he's so... earnest when he talks about his past life. When he talks about Az.)

He makes his way through school, and finds a good group of friends. Members of the football team, mostly. Earns the title of 'the most innocent member of the friend group', which amuses him greatly. It's not that they don't believe him about Az - they do, somehow, it's a part of him as much of anything else. He just... leaves some things out. He doesn't know when they came to the conclusion that he was a farmer, but he lets them believe it because it's funny.

(One of his friends knows he's a liar, which makes it even better, because it's like the world's most one-sided inside joke. He finds it hilarious. Mika is tired of his bullshit <3)

and then she's here. She finds him, somehow, against all odds, and they collide into each other, two parts of a whole who have finally been re-united.

Eddie's curls look really nice today. Sleek and springy, they do a little bounce as he turns to you and offers you a small smile.

"What?" he asks expectantly.

You're waiting to go into the Hawk movie theatre. It's warm and the line is super long. You and Eddie stand somewhere in the middle in light clothing, the sun kissing him all over and turning his pale skin golden.

"Do you think they'll open the doors soon?" you ask quietly. It's the kind of day where you don't feel like you have to be anyone but yourself, no matter how quiet that might leave you.

Eddie nudges you gently with his elbow. "Getting bored?"

"So bored," you agree, wry. You can't bite back a smile as you step a little closer to him, eyes on a long curl at his shoulder.

"Nah, I think they're gonna start letting people in soon. Stick it out. It'll be worth your while." He pretends to yawn and throw his arm over your shoulder.

"I bet." You mean it.

There a lapsing silence. You're not sure if it's awkward or not. It doesn't feel awkward for you; you could spend hours alone with Eddie now and never feel bored, he's that kind of perfect. His freckles and fanaticism, his ever-present wit.

You decide to give yourself what you want and reach for the curl you'd been eyeing up to wrap it around your finger. You're thrilled when it fits, like he'd slept with it coiled around your finger specifically. It's so stupid to think, so silly and ardently affectionate that you cringe at yourself.

"I fucking love your smile," Eddie says.

You let the curl spring free. It's impossible to stop smiling now he's said it. "My smile?" Your smile is more of a grimace, usually.

He taps under your chin swiftly. You deign to lift your gaze and meet his eyes, honey browns edged in a thicket of straight, dark lashes.

"Best get over there before I answer," he says.

Eddie looks suddenly and acutely more handsome than he's ever looked before. He's pink with it, your affection, skin glowing and soft, hair perfect and pretty. A long chain dissapears into the loose neck of his tank top. Your eyes search all over him and can't find a single imperfection. Not the scar on his left bicep, not his callused hands.

"Oh, god. I really like you," you confess.

You'd be embarrassed if you thought Eddie cared. He hadn't been weirded out when you asked him on a first date, Roan in his arms with her tearstained cheeks. He hadn't cared when you'd kissed her tiny cut up knees at the supermarket, or when you'd said, Hi, handsome, on your very first date. You keep worrying about being too much and Eddie keeps showing you that you're not.

He doesn't let you down. "I like you more. Fuck, you can't let me have one, can you?"

"Have what?" you ask, laughing.

"One of our firsts!"

"Eddie Munson, what the fuck? Did you get bodysnatched by a teenage girl? Why do you care about firsts?"

He glares at you. Then, sudden, you can practically see the light bulb of an epiphany behind his eyes.

"Be my girlfriend."

Pleasure fills your chest, a dizzying static. You don't gawp, though you easily could, you only smile your awful, stupid, terrible smile — that he fucking loves by the way — and try not to laugh. You're so happy you can't keep it down, giggles bubbling up in waves.

"Yeah, okay," you say. It's more casual than you feel.

His shoulders relax in relief. "Yeah?"

You weave your fingers into the softest curls behind his neck and tap his jaw with your index finger. Eddie's quick to put a hand behind your back and tug you inward. The rose-tint surrounding him gets worse by the second.

"Is that enough firsts for you?" you ask softly. "Or do you want another one?"

He understands quickly what you're asking for, dipping down to share your very first kiss. You've kissed his cheek once or twice and you think he might've kissed your head one time during a short hug, but this is a real kiss.

His lips are soft. You feel him and nothing else, world tunneled into his hands where they pull up your back, almost like he's trying to drag you in closer, and the sigh that he makes as he does. You tentatively, so tentatively, part your lips. The slightest gap.

Eddie pulls away to wade in from a new angle, his own lips now parted in turn. You can't breathe right as you meld against him, hand closing much more roughly than you mean to around his neck and suffocating his poor curls.

He pulls away after a few seconds, seemingly assessing your expression.

"Sorry," you say sincerely, pulling your hand from behind his neck.

He closes his hand, rubs your cheek with the backs of his fingers, fingernails smooth over the slope of your cheek. It's a featherlight touch. You've never been touched this delicately.

"You're sure?" he asks.

Vigorous, vehement nodding. "One hundred percent sure."

He presses his lips together, an obvious excitement. "God, Roan's gonna blow a gasket."

You both laugh and fall into one another. Crazy, how your head fits into the curve of his neck as perfectly as it does.

Premise: Takes place a little while after Venture's Adventures trailer! Silly goober does not realize taking on a deadly organization is not good for their health!

Warnings: Blood, a small argument but other than that there's nothing to worry about!

You press down the gauze onto the fresh wound on their arm, soaking up as much as the blood as you could manage. Within minutes it soaks the tight knit fabric a dark crimson red and you discard it into the nearby bloody scrap pile. You take another piece of clean, dry gauze and apply pressure to the area before wrapping it up and taping it off. Sloan winces and grits their teeth from your rough care.

"So..." You continue to treat their wounds as they watch. "You really did all of that? By yourself?" You ask.

Tears formed in their eyes as you dug into another wound to clean it. They blink them away before you can notice–

"Sure did!" They grin.

"Didn't we have this talk before?" You chide. The grin on their face immediately fades.

"Yeah, but if things went bad I could've gotten out of there no problem." They attempt to mask the defensiveness in their voice. You sigh and continue your cleaning and dressing.

Your soft, warm hands continue gently wrapping layers of fresh gauze around Sloan's clean wounds. The silence between the two of you feels immense. Without pressing the matter further, you finish up your work and move on to the next noticeable injury. However, there are several other cuts and scrapes across their skin, so you definitely had your work cut out for you tonight. At least the worst of the worst were already taken care of.

A laugh escapes their throat and you raise an eyebrow in curiosity.

"You're turning me into a mummy!" They joke.

You shake your head and sigh once more. They pout in response.

"Jeez, tough crowd." They add.

You hold back your frustration as you roll up their jeans to reveal more injuries in need of treatment. Once again you begin to wipe their skin clean with medicine and discard all bloody cloth into the growing mountain of medical trash. Your anger is evident in your body language.

"Hmph. Angela wouldn't be this mad–" You cut them off and they're caught by surprise. You shoot straight up and scowl.

"Well I'm not Angela, okay?" You argue, angrily tightening the cloth around their leg. They audibly express pain from your harshness.

You turn around for a moment and look for more medicine. Everything you grab lightly stains the container and their labels red in the shape of gloved fingers.

"I... didn't mean it like that..." There's noticeable guilt in their voice.

"You really just don't get it, do you?" You bite your cheek to stop yourself from further outbursts.

"Get what? That artifact was important to me–"

"And you're important to me!" You turn on your heels and meet their gaze directly. "You really think you could take on Talon all by yourself and not get hurt? You could have died!" You cry.

They blush and look away. "Aww come on, it wasn't that bad..."

"Wasn't that bad?! Look at your arms! I'm not even done with you yet! What were you thinking?" Tears of frustration form in your eyes.

Sloan is quiet again as the realization hits. They look down at their disheveled clothes and half patched up body. Oh my God– you were right...

You open your mouth to start yelling again but you stop when you feel their arms wrap around your waist. They nuzzle against your warm skin and close their eyes.

"I'm sorry." They admit.

You let out another sigh and affectionately pat their head in defeat.

"You really should take better care of yourself. I can only fix so much. What you did was extremely brave and admirable, but it was also extremely stupid and reckless–" You stop yourself mid lecture so you wouldn't make them feel worse than they already did. "What I'm trying to say is... archeology is important to you, and you're important to me. There will always be more treasure to uncover but there's only one of you. You can't ever be replaced, you know?"

They sniffle and hug you closer. You continue comforting them to the best of your ability as their emotions pour out onto your soiled shirt. You remove your stained gloves and reach into your coat pocket for an emergency lemon lollipop.

"Here." You take off the wrapper and hand the sweet to them. Immediately their eyes light up with joy, and they quickly wipe away their tears on their jacket sleeve.

"Aww yeah! You're the best!" They immediately pop the sweet into their mouth. "Thanks!" They mumble with a full mouth.

"This is not an excuse to forget what I just told you."

You take your hand and tilt their head up. From a nearby glove box you grab a pair of clean gloves and get back to work.

"I won't forget! I promise!"

"Isn't that what you said last time?" You remind them.

They remove the lollipop from their mouth and look at you in full seriousness.

"I promise I'll be more careful! You're my treasure. No one else is allowed to discover you. Finders keepers!"

You couldn't help but smile from the cheesiness.

Satisfied with your expression, they continue eating away at their lollipop. You continue to hold their face carefully while wiping away the dirt, grime and blood. As an extra treat you reach into your pocket again and place a skeleton bandaid on their cheek across a minor scrape they obtained.

"Alright. I think you're good to go. Don't get into anymore trouble, okay?" You ask them, borderline begging for them to be safer in the future.

"Finders keepers." They repeat, hopping off the table.

You finally toss the huge mess you made into the garbage and wash your hands. They head for the door before they stop dead in their tracks. They flick their leftover lollipop stick into the trash.

"Oh! I almost forgot!" They walk over to you and place a kiss to your lips.

"Finders keepers..." They smile. "But you make it hard to want to stay safe because I love seeing you."

You blush and let out a tiny giggle.

"You're my favorite patient. Just don't get maimed, alright?" You swat at them lightly. "I'm serious. Doctors orders."

"Sure thing, Doc. Are you free this Saturday by any chance?" A cheeky grin lights up their face.

"Only if you can go the rest of the week without getting injured." You place your hands on your hips and put on your serious face.

"You betcha!" Their grin somehow widens further as they spin around and head for the door.

You wait for them to fully leave before leaning back on the table and crossing your arms.

"I give them eleven minutes." You whisper under your breath.

Those two are the light of his fucking life ok. If you were someone that had something against him, they're how you get to him. They're how you hurt him. He will do ANYTHING for them. He'll kill his friends, he'll fly on broken wings, he'll die for them. Nothing matters more than those two kids.

He's not typically a very physically affectionate person. But to the kids? Suddenly he's a cuddler. Suddenly he's head kisses and carrying them on his hip just because he can. His favorite thing is when either of them fall to pieces emote bc smth stupid happened. Or whenever they Orange Justice after smth fucked happens.

Listen. LISTEN. Don't be fooled by this man. He LOVES adventures with the kids. He loves them. The reason he refuses to venture out with them or go dungeon raiding with them super often is because survivalist brain is like if the worst happens, the Feds do not have your back. Every other kid in team skull runs head first into trouble without his permission and comes crying to him about how they lost a battle, which annoys him to no end
